Rarely responds to e-mails (online class) and when he does, he's rude.
Mr. Pietramonaco is great. He is really interested in one thing: teaching math. I learned a lot in his class.
Dean is very clear and complete in his explanations. His tests are a little tricky but fair. He really cares about his students and never makes a person with a question feel embarrassed. You will be happy you choose him.
Mr. Pietramonaco is really funny. He's like a high school jock who happens to be brilliant at math.
This guy can't teach. Very confusing and rude. Too fast and does not explain things clearly. Do NOT...I repeat DO NOT take his class.
He was rude and very unhelpful.
His class was kind of easy. He explained things in simple ways, so it was easy to understand what he was teaching. Before each exam, he would review the chapter that we were about to be tested on, which was really helpful.
His class is hard to follow. I am not good at math to begin with a powerpoint lectures didnt help my understanding any.
Very confusing. Often I didn't even know what he was attempting to explain, cuz he jumps right into lectures w/out introducing them. Nice guy though, very funny, just not a great teacher. Doesn't allow time to go over all homework before tests.
I had professor pietromonoco for both math 100, and math 120. I felt he was one of the best math teachers I had. I would highly recomend him. He explained things very clearly in class and is very interested in helping student learn math.
Very wonderful teacher. Goes over everything!!! If you dont understand something he will go over it again! Great Personality! High reccomendations!
Excellent math teacher. I had him for Math Discovery,Stats, and Pre-Calc. Great sense of humor, but sucks at golf and boxing.
He is a very interesting teacher and will keep your attention from just his personality but if you have any trouble with math he is very confusing. He jumps around so much if you get confused on one part of the lecture you are lost for the rest of the lecture.
This professor does not really break things down so that the average person "without" an advanced degree in mathematics can understand it. He is not very understanding when it comes to the fact that some of us just arent very good with math.
this class was really hard.. he goes off on tangents and talks about his days of being a gambler. Really nice.. likes to put people in awkward situations. does not tolorate sleeping.
His way of teaching breaks the problems down into their most simple and effective way to solve. It's very easy to follow and understand. I highly recomend Mr. P.
He is very good at what he does, and he is easy to pay attaintion to. also, he is easy to understand.
Strict Grader!
clear on teaching methods
He is an awesome teacher, but beware if you don't know fractions. He is also easy to approach and really cares about his students. If you want to be challenged, take this professor.
This teacher began the class by telling us the statistics of students that actually successfully pass the class. I thought he was very rude and very unhelpful.
Tough Grader; nobody recieved an A
I don't think I've ever laughed so much in a math class. He wants you to understand what you're doing, and doesn't want you to just regurgitate info. He will sit down with you one on one till you understand, but you have to be the time in. He will not give you any hints on tests, but if you study hard and keep up, you'll get an A like I did. : )
great teacher. you really leave understanding the material and it's practical applications. but you have to put the time and effort in to study becuase his tests are really hard.
Best math teacher I have ever had! I like math for the first time in my life because I finally feel I understand it! Text book is great! He is very funny and keeps the class interesting.
very hard grader! quiz every class period. i wouldnt take him.
He was a fun teacher, but kind of arrogant. If you didn't understand something in class, he would only explain it one extra time and with annoyance. Nice guy but a tough teacher and his personal stories make it hard to stay focused on learning the subject. We would run out of time and he would move on next class period anyway. Oral presentatio
really difficult class, he drives a hard bargan and expects alot! he is funny has heck, but his tests are extremely hard...do not ever miss a day or you are doomed!
very difficult. spends most of his time trying to teach you things that arnt in the book(very confusing). difficult grader. hard test. hardly gives homework back(makes it difficult to study off your own stuff) before tests. i wouldnt suggest to anyone to take his class
Wow, cant believe these people rated him low. are they crazy? I always failed math, i hated until i had Dean as my professor. Hes the best math teacher i had and ever will and many others agree. dont believe those commnets. He has a different way of approaching math that is more effective then anything.
Careful, he teaches quickly so always come to class alert. The speed of his teaching will throw you off at times, and you will have to do some self teaching at home if he did not explain it to you very well. Be prepared for random stories and comments from him, he gets distracted just like the rest of us. SMART, but confusing teacher.
VERY surprised at his ratings. He is BY FAR the best math teacher I have ever had. He actually knows what he is doing!! He teaches in terms we all understand, he breaks it down and shows you what your doing and most importantly, WHY you're doing it. I would definitely recommend him!
VERY surprised at his ratings. He is BY FAR the best math teacher I have ever had. He actually knows what he is doing!! He teaches in terms we all understand, he breaks it down and shows you what your doing and most importantly, WHY you're doing it. I would definitely recommend him!
Best Teacher i have had in a long time. Just hope you guys like random stories.
What's the matter with all those other peopl?? Dean was the greatest math prof ever!! He was a s funny as all get out and unbelievably helpful. I could write a book on his hilarious illustrations that he used to teach his math. He loves helping his students and is TOTALLY AWESOME!! (p.s. he does most definantly suck at golf.) -Joe
I had him for both Intermediate Algebra and Statistics. He his by far one of the hardest math professors i have had but none the less one of the most talented. If you want a professor that will really make you learn the material and most of all REMEMBER. After his class any other math class is much easier
He's great!! If you have any questions, he is very willing to help you understand and he makes sure you know fractions inside and out. Taking my next class with him too!
Great!
Great knowledgable professor, has a great sense of humor.
AMAZING TEACHER! HE IS THE ONLY TEACHER THAT I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CONNECT WITH AND UNDERSTAND MATH. I WISH I COULD HAVE HIM FOR EVERY MATH CLASS. I ACTUALLY ENJOYED HIS MATH CLASS. KEEP UP THE WONDERFUL TEACHING AND THANKS FOR MAKING A DIFFERENCE. FLC COULD USE MORE TEACHERS LIKE YOU
Dean is a pretty cool guy once you get to know him. Teaches very fast but always has interesting tricks to get around problems. His tests are very very difficult be thankful if he says the test was created by all math professors. If he makes the exam study 2X. Great math teacher but expect sarcasm and jokes. Pretty cool professor overall.
Difficult but straight foward. Some of the tests seemed unreasonably challenging, but I was well prepared for MATH 120 because of his class. Not a professor you can expect an easy A with, though it is possible.
He likes to gamble. His tests and quizzes really aren't hard at all, he just makes you freak out about them beforehand.
Great teacher, first time i actually learned something in a math class. He's funny and random and keeps you interested.
Really hard. We had 34 students and 14 passed the classes. He told us that his hardest test it the 2nd test and its hard to see if students are really serious about the class. Um... Do You Think Wr Pay For Classes To Not Pass????
He spends all his time makeing you feel you should not be there. He uses his own methods and will not let you show work. Almost no one left passing at the end of class.
Great teacher, very funny and helpful
Crazy. Hilarious. Genius. -- I had Dean for AP Calculus in High School. I looked forward to his class every day. He is an incredible teacher. He expects a lot, but if you put in the effort, it's worth it. He;s hilarious. We made rolls for extra credit (impossible recipe to get right). Also, he guilted us into buying his kid's girl scout cookies.
WOW omg hes funny awesome teacher yea the thing about having to do stuff in ur head and differently than what i learned was a pain but damn it makes things so much easier. he seems to like pies, pie shops, cookies, and cash alot as they are his examples in class. he dropped a kid in our class for being a dlck and the kid threatened him it was EJ.
Lots of homework to beat the material into your head. Very funny stories and explains things well. He tries to get you thinking about math in a way you are not used to which is tough at times. Helpful when you need it. Just go every day and follow his rules. Don't disrupt his class and you will like him. Best math teacher I have had.
mr. p. was extremely helpful to me. i learned a great deal from him and his method of teaching, yes it might be different but it obviously works i passed with A+ i hightly recomend this class if the standard way of math teaching dont work for you.
way more helpful for stats then he was for algebra 2.... stuck to the book, did examples from our homework, and avoided the graphing calculator like the plague. i learned a lot and was not overwhelmed by the vast amounts of information that you need to learn for stats. i would take him again if i needed any other math classes!
Love his way of teaching. Took him for lower level classes and he was able to teach me easy ways of using mental math. Helps with everything I do in school and outside of school. And he is Funny!! Would love to keep taking his classes
Professor P gave me a great foundation to continue with upper level algebra and in to statistics.I highly recommend this instuctor for any level math, but especially if you need to build (or rebuild) a strong foundation. His method and class format built my confidence and math skills from the ground up. Thanks Dean!!
Definitely plays favorites in his class. If you're good in math and can understand fast, this is the right teacher for you.
Mr. Pietromonaco gives everyone the chance to succeed. He explains the reason behind the rules. He's serious about teaching and its obvious that he loves/truly understands math himself. I would rank him among the best instructors that I have ever had.
Always late, very poor communication skills. He sends out emails but doesn't answer basic questions to help clarify his email messages. Needs to improve his time management skills.
It's all about the pie shop!!
Prof Pietromonaco is a cool guy. He knows a lot about math and other deep random science facts. Very helpful and honest about life and everything. He gets you ready for higher math classes. I highly recommend this teacher.
in addition to what i said below i cant believe this guy is a tenured professor. he seriously has no right to be teaching anyone. i learn and do math by doing the work long handed and that was unacceptable by his standards...keep in mind i got an A in the class so i am not biased in any way because of a grade i got from him
Dean is the best math teacher I have ever had. I took his class for both 30 and 100 and received an A in both classes. Though I am done with math requirements, I still use his math techniques in everday life. So helpful and a fun class to be in.
regaurdless of being late, or barley on time.. he is an amazing teacher. i seriously hated math, now i love it! he relates math to real life and always has a way to explain if it you dont understand. just do the homework and dont miss more than 3 classes or he WILL drop you. take him if you can!!!
DEAN IS THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD.HE IS A COOL GUY, SMART AND VERY HELPFUL! HE NEVER WASTES TIME, AND HE ALWAYS HELPS STUDENTS!!!YOU WILL BE HAPPY YOU CHOOSE HIM!!!!!!!
Dean is an amazing teacher, his textbook is created by himself so he knows exactly what he's talking about. He made me enjoy math for the first time in years. Take as many of his classes as you can!
He is the best math teacher I have ever had. He is very easy to understand, and he will answer all your questions. Definetely take his class!!!! Easy A!!
I love this teacher! He explained math to me in a way I've never understood before. Fractions were my worst nightmare before taking this class. He was super helpful and talked clearly and would go over questions that were in my head but I didn't feel like asking in front of everyone. I will try and take all of my math classes with him as my teacher
He speeds through lecture, he literally once said, "If you blink, you'll miss this section that I'm going over." Just because everyone raves about how funny he is DOES NOT mean he's a good teacher! If you want to laugh your head off, come to him. If you want to learn, I highly recommend taking another professor. Goes over concepts extremely quick!
really good teacher.. funny but also really helpful. teaches quickly but then walks around and helps anyone who doesn't understand. more interested in you understanding than you showing your work or presenting your papers in a certain way. gets pissed off when you text haha
Dean is an absolutely amazing professor. If you're considering which one to take for your classes, choose him. He's easily the greatest math teacher I've ever had - he's funny and very friendly. He teaches math in a fantastically utilitarian approach and will give you amazing tools to succeed. That said, you have to study, but he gladly help you.
Mr. P is an awesome math teacher! He really cares about his students and will make sure that everyone understands before moving onto the next topic. Has a funny and interesting way of teaching, provides you with excellent tools to succeed on the quizzes/tests. Do your homework and you have yourself an easy A.
He's very condescending. Does not teach clearly, but loves to tell you how great a teacher is. Most of our class is doing very poorly but he puts 100% of the blame on us. He leaves out lots of stuff but he expects you to know it come test time. I wish I had taken a different teacher
Horrible teacher. Goes over things way too fast, doesn't explain formulas and problems the way the book does making it difficult to consult the book or him for any help. Save yourself and do not take this class! He also tells stories and tries to joke the entire class. Really corny.
He is an amazing teacher.Completely in tune with his class. He really cares about his students and it shows. He will go over a problem until everyone gets it!!! AWESOME DUDE!!!
He turned my distaste for math into passion. I have never liked that fact that math was all formulas without explanation. I feel like with his method of teaching it makes sense and is so much easier. I hope to take his higher level offerings.
I really liked Dean. His lectures were great. I really like the way he teaches in real world terms so that people that don't have a high math IQ can understand the concepts behind what he is teaching. The negatives were that he is going to always be barely on time or late, and that he wants to get out of the class as much as some of the students.
Professor Pietromonaco is an experienced math teacher, who never gives up on his students, and provides the most help possible. His teaching method is on point, and easy to follow. In addition, his grading techniques are fair. He also provides a comical side to math, to prevent boredom and loss of interest.
He teaches the math in a way that helps me learn. Often pointing out common mistakes we might make so we can avoid them. Fair and straightforward teacher. Knows several ways to teach you something if you aren't getting it the first way. Funny when he goes on a rant about the government. Great teacher!
Professor Pietromonaco is very experienced in math. Teaches several ways to figure out the answer to a problem. I took this class in the summer, which made it harder for me to retain the information within a compressed 2 month time period. But overall, he was very helpful and I do recommend. Funny guy!
Keeps it interesting but moves quickly. Have to pay attention!
Very good teacher, very knowledgable. He is very helpful IN class, but would not talk to me before or after classes. There was a MAJOR problem with our online hw system that was never resolved, although many of us emailed him multiple times about it, and were very frustrated. Without the online hw, would be a VERY good teacher.
Did not follow the grading on his syllabus, didn't show up for class on days he said he'd do test review, would go off on tangents not remotely related to class that would take up class time, and not finish the section we were on. Then he would test on what he didn't cover, with test questions that looked nothing like the book's. Terrible teacher.
I really like Pietromonaco as a person, but struggled with him as a professor. He is quite unorganized and you never know what to expect with exams. I love math and struggled to get an A in his class. His tests aren't that hard, but he doesn't really prepare you for them. You have to be able to teach yourself if you're going to take him for Calc 3.
Withdrew and took a W to avoid a B, took it from Pipkin, got an A, accepted to Berkeley. Certain test problems require you to use the previous answer, so if you get that wrong, oh well no partial credit. Fine teacher, but does not give clear insight into what is on the first few tests. This can lead to overstudying things that don't even matter.
His in class stuff is amazing. He cares about teaching math and usually puts a fun spin on it to keep you from falling asleep. However, the online stuff is annoying at best. Its weird to put in the answers and its graded like a quiz each time. It also doesnt give any feedback as to what you did wrong and the videos are always over the easy problem
he is a horrible teacher and a dreadful person, he doesn't help out and he is extremely rude. also his bad teaching style and attitude comes from teaching high school at the same time, so be ready to get treated like a freshman.
By far one of the worst teachers I've ever had. He was so unhelpful. He mocks you if you don't understand a concept. At one point he told a student that his parents didn't love him, and the student ran out of the room crying and dropped the class. He spends about half the period ranting about off topic subjects and just breezes over the material.
Mr. Pietromonaco is so far the best math teacher Ive ever had in my life. His class and very organized and the material is given to you straight forward. He also goes out of his way to make sure everyone is on the same page, which i really liked. Even though the class was two and a half hours long it didn't feel like it due to his humor and stories
He is a great guy and really knows what he is teaching. Makes It fun!
He is a good teacher, but when it comes to grades and getting in touch with students, he's not so good at. He doesn't return emails (even after emailing multiple times), and the grading system is weird and takes up too much time and is just unnecessary. There are easier ways to provide grades for us. There is also online AND handwritten homework.
Read a lot of reviews saying he was mean and makes fun of you. He kinda does but hes just a very sarcastic person, you can make fun of him too and he will just laugh. He is hilarous and his lectures are very clear. Just make sure you do the online homework and you will pass the class. Easy and fun class
Dean Pietromonaco is by far the best professor I have EVER had. Before I started this class I believed I was terrible at math, by the time I was done I was making A's on everything. Pietromonaco makes sure you not only know how to do a problem but why it works, he prepares you well for each test and learns every student by name. He is amazing.
Dean is the man. On one hand, he thinks you suck because you're in math 100 in college. On the other hand, if you want to improve at math, he loves to help. I'm in precal now because of Dean. He's constantly hilarious and uses humor to teach math in an engaging way. I will never forget what to not cancel in polynomials expressions now. Thanks Dean.
pretty decent teacher, uses real-life situation to explain math. too many methods for hw: written odd #s from hb and online hw. does pop quizzes, online and in-class tests. likes to talk about his personal life, which can be pretty funny
One of the most helpful math professors I've ever had. He doesn't assign homework, but instead has daily quizzes on material from the previous class with a few questions. He likes to tell funny stories in class the lightens the mood and makes a hard class much more bearable. Very approachable and patient. Would absolutely take his course again.
Simply put, my bet is that Professor Pietromonaco may inspire you to become a mathematician. Having studied under the renowned educator Jaime Escalante, Dean's teaching style is state of the art, so m100 was the most effective/enjoyable classes I've experienced.
Very rude and unclear. Blamed the people in my class for having a 70% fail rate. Talks about himself a lot.
I took Professor Pietromonaco in Fall 2014 for Math 100 and just completed Math 120 this semester, this professor not only made Math 100 understandable and fun but also made Math 120 much easier than anticipated, Pietromonaco taught so much information about 120 that the class was bearable when I came to it, good work professor!
Never on time, teaches one way, homework assignment according to online course (another way), tests yet another way. lecture never make sense, gets side tracked telling random stories. Gets back to emails weeks later. Cool guys, not a good hybrid math instructor. I do have a girlfriend who took his class (not hybrid) and liked him... go figure.
Love him!! He was my first college math professor and I haven't liked anyone else since him! I highly recommend you taking his class! He always cracks the long lectures with lots of silly jokes :)
do not take this class if you are an athlete, almost got me taken off my team for almost dropping me! had to sign up for a fast track class to save myself!!!
THE ONLY MATH teacher I have ever understood. He does not bombard you with math definitions that make it confusing to follow. He tells you how to solve the equations and why they are the way they are and how they are applied in everyday life. I am terrible at math but he conveys things in a tangible way. He is rly funny and lectures arent boring.
Very rude. Really bad to students sometimes. One time there was an sin kid in class and he was asking everyone does anyone know this table game and that one asian kid raises his hand and the prof says to him that abousely you would now because your asian. take smoother teacher you will like it more.
This class was.. interesting. At the end of it all I don't feel like I learned much, which is bad after taking Calc 3. In the first chapter, he refused to answer questions for some reason. He has 4 exams worth 100 points each, a final is 200ish points, and the rest is quizzes. Your whole grade is out of 750ish points. I would avoid him if you can.
Professor Pietromonaco is a funny dude. He is a good teacher. His tests are reasonable. Beware quizzes and homework. Quizzes can drop your grade if you do not perform well. They are not hard. Homework is optional but DO IT! I got lazy and it bit me in the butt.
On the first day he talked down to the whole class, as if you would only be in Math100 if you were a burnout or stupid. Talks about himself a lot, class lectures do not align with homework, and talks about fractions for the better part of 3 weeks and then expects us to take a test that has nothing to do with fractions.
This Professor is a nice, hilarious guy. But his teaching methods are not for me. He teaches to "understand" before teaching you the rule. Which means he teaches all sorts of shortcuts which I have an extremely hard time in math, I need to be taught simply, and straight to the point. The program and textbook XYZ Homework, is absolutely horrible!
Professor is very nice and off topic at times, but overall I would highly recommend. He will make sure that everyone understands and go over the material if there is any confusion. he makes his lectures as relate-able as can be by using doughnuts or beer as examples making the class interesting. He is a strict teacher, but good quality.
Best math teacher ever
Doesn't give too much homework, only gives homework on what he feels is important. Will work with you until you understand the material. Very good math teacher, he gives you the how and the why. Also jokes and tells stories in order to keep the class interesting. Also has great credentials. Will definitely take any class he is teaching.
Best math teacher I've ever had. Makes problems understandable by explaining them as real life situations or objects & tells hilarious stories. If you keep up the pace by reading the lessons and doing the homework (the chapter/s homework is turned in when you take that chapter/s exam) you'll do well on the in class quizzes.
One of the best techers I've ever had. Prof Dean is very passionate and has an effective approach to help you understand the material. Read the textbook, do the hw and come to class prepared (quizzes). Put in the work and you'll do fine.
IM SUPER HORRIBLE at math and he breaks down everything for you to be able to really understand the material and not just memorize and slide by. Hes hilarious and keeps you focused, ive never had a math class feel SHORT BEFORE. The class time flies by.
if you're bad at math don't take the hybrid class!! he is an amazing teacher, makes math fun and easy. by far the best math teacher I've ever had. lots of pop quizzes, attendance is mandatory.
Super awesome professor, his teaching style is great and very clear. He also has a super likeable personality that makes the class even more enjoyable.
unclear teaching. tests are not consistent with homework. definitely do not recommend.
This professor is probably one of the best math teachers at Folsom Lake. He is great at helping you understand, I have probably learned more in this class then Math 20 & 30 combined and I am actually retaining the info. He is great! Only regret is taking a hybrid class. Online homework is much different then the test/written homework.
Although calc 3 is a tough class, Dean made it bearable and enjoyable with his humor and high spirits. His lectures were always insightful and helpful in understanding the material. Homework isn't mandatory, but you WILL pass if you do the work. Pop quizzes come often, so study. Dean's class is awesome, especially if you enjoy higher level math.
What an absolute legend. Of all the college courses I took, he is by far the greatest professor I have had. He respects students, lectures clear and to the point and gives example. He is hilarious and often goes off track telling us a personal story which is totally fine as math gets boring. Just show up, study and you'll do fine. 100% recommend.
He is a great teacher, he breaks his class up with stories and jokes, and just make the 2 hour long class easier to take. Do not have your phone out, he wont take it from you but he might asked you to leave. You write a lot of notes and do quite a bit of homework, both in book and online.
With our class, the majority of the student in the class dropped due to his ability to teach the material. He does not let the student in the class read the book in class unless he tells them to do so. In addition, he strays off topic continuously.
So this year was strange. We had to miss about 2 weeks worth of classes because he had plans, vacations ect. so it made it very difficult to keep up with the curriculum we were already behind on. But, besides from that, he is a funny dude and really does a good job of enforcing new material with real world examples. Good for visual learners
The funniest teacher I've taken. Literally could be a stand up comedian. Super chill, teaches math AMAZING!! seriously first A I've ever had in a math class. Focuses on purpose and meaning, helps you not to simply memorize things but truly learn. Easy tests! Show up, pay attention, and enjoy his humor. Hands down recommend him over any math teacher
Hes an amazing teacher. He really cares about his studnets and trys really hard to make sure everyone understands everything and that they arent just memorizing formulas. Uses real life examples to make the subject easier. makes a lot of jokes and talks about real wolrd peoblems a lot which i find interesting. really strict about attendance tho
If you have struggled with math in the past this might be the guy for you. He's very good at explaining math in a way that really makes sense. I'm not much of a math guy but in his class I feel like I can do pretty well at it.
One of the best teachers I have had. I have never gotten more then a D taking math in high school, but the way that he teaches makes it very easy for you to understand the material. I ended up getting an A in his class because of his teaching style. He also has a great sense of humor, which made all the lectures not so boring.
He will help you one on one with any issues you're having. Lectures with the textbook daily but homework is always different from what he taught in class so you have to go back and read/learn the chapter yourself. Teaches good ideas and ways to learn the material but needs reading outside of class for success on both homework and tests.
This guy is truly a joke. His tests are written so terribly and he does not give test keys. So your grade on your test is what it is and he will not answer your emails asking what you missed. No homework other than occasional assignments on khan ac. All tests. Ive emailed him 10+ times this semester; he has replied once. Awful. Dont do it.
Only a week or two in and I can tell this isn't going to be good. Had a few professors in my couple years, and so far least, he's been the absolute worst at this online thing. You'd think with over a year into a pandemic now they'd have some level of understanding on how to do this. Guess not. Does not communicate well. Lots of homework.
absolutely horrible profesor do not take
Worst. Teacher. In my life. I've seen the good reports on him, but be warned, they are IN-PERSON reports. If you plan on taking him online, he's the worst. He's so busy all the time, he only ever responds to us every 2 weeks. His lectures didn't match the HW nor the tests. Youtube and Khan Academy were better. Wish I could score him a 0... :(
His online class has been my worst college experience yet. He simply does not seem to care about the class. He'll take almost the entire week to fix errors or respond to emails, and will often not post lectures for the week, leaving the entire class to learn the material on their own. Any communication you do get is vague and unhelpful. Don't take.
In all of my yrs @ FLC I have NEVER taken such a horrible professor. Words can not describe the level of negligence this professor has displayed. He rarely responds to emails, said homework wouldn't count all sem then changed it. he forgot to post exams 2 wks in a row, & dropped an exam on us 4 days before. My student success was severely affected.
His online lectures barely follow the content on the homework and tests. He is also very hard to follow. He skips sections of the book that are on the homework and tests so you have to go back and learn them yourself, but the textbook is not very helpful.
The worst professor I've ever taken. Lectures go over nothing on the homework and barely brushes over anything going on in the chapter. he will lecture 3 chapters in the span of one hour, half that time spent talking about himself. If he is your only choice, wait until next semester.
He is genuinely the worst teacher I have ever had. His lectures barely teach you the concepts, oftentimes he goes on political rants that made me (and several others) feel uncomfortable, he never posts due dates or written notes anywhere online. You're stuck learning on your own. Do not take this professor for your own sake.
Dean probably used to be a really good professor. But he definitely stopped caring when online school started. Don't get me wrong, it's still a decent class, it's not unbearable as some here are saying. But he probably won't respond to your email or make any accommodations. If your stressing over grades, probably don't take this class.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Lectures have nothing to do with the homework. You have to learn everything on your own. He forgot to post 2 tests and doesn't respond to emails. He used to do live lectures (which sucked), but before spring break, he decided he was no longer going to teach and only posted some old lectures for the rest of the semester.
Took online. Messes up every test assigned on xyzhomework, messing up the schedule. Hard to contact about test mess ups.
I took Professor Pietromonaco's Calc III class in 2016 and eventually went on to get a masters degree in math. He is my all time favorite professor, his course was difficult, but he made me think and he always gave interesting previews of math that I ended up seeing in later courses.
If you want to actually learn the material and get a solid understanding of Calculus 3, do NOT take this professor. His lectures half the time are not even his and have little to do with the homework. If you want to get an easy A, have way more time than you'll ever need on exams, and get your grade rounded up at the end, Pietromonaco is your guy.
I got an A because I bought a numerade subscription. His lectures in class are not very helpful most of the time, and the online videos in the book do not help either. He did say that he would use a different program/book in the future. Many struggled in this class and did poorly on tests. He did lower the grade average by 4%, making 66% passing.
I do not recommend this teacher. quizzes every single class, would email us three days before class to tell us we have a test, never went over homework. he said some sexists comments in class that made a lot of girls uncomfortable. and our final was taken from an AP stats test ( it had nothing on what we covered during the semester)
Pretty good lecturer, goes very fast though. Use the resources that he advises you to use and you will be fine. Calc 3 isn't an easy subject but if you use the right resources and stay consistent you should be able to get the grade you want with this professor.
I honestly could not stick with the class. He will tell you to look it up on Google if you don't understand the lecture, but when you go to look it up, you can't find anything. The pop-quizzes gave me so much anxiety that I thought I developed anger issues while doing the homework. I would not take this class again, going to find another teacher.
He tends to go off topic really often, although he teaches well he is very sporadic and also simply cannot stay on task. If you have attention span issues, this class might be difficult
I had Dean for precalculus and AP Calculus in high school, and I decided to take his Calc 3 class at Folsom Lake. He explains all the concepts intuitively and encourages his students to read the book chapter before coming to class, which helps you understand better during lecture. Dean also tells lots of interesting stories and funny jokes.
Pietromonaco's Calc 3 class is tough, but using the right resources like the textbook and unstuck ai can really help. His lectures move fast, but staying consistent and engaged will get you the grade.
This prof is just weird and unprofessional on every level. He rants and gets side tracked all the time and rushes through his teachings. He also talked a lot about how he was a drug dealer and made multiple comments on committing suicide. He grades wrong and doesn't fix it, he will tell you to use Google for help instead of him teaching better
Lectures were very helpful and interesting, he explains concepts in a way that made me understand them well and he's also funny. Online lecture recordings were helpful too.
Not professional, picks on students, gives the people in his class backhanded remarks such as reminding them constantly that they struggle at math, gets off track, and tells students to drop the class for small inconveniences such as missing class (most professors do not tell their students to drop).
He was really rude in class and would make comments about women that were so unprofessional. I honestly think this guy should get fired of all the unprofessional things he said in class. Pop quizzes all the time. The final project was ok but he honestly graded on completion. Would not take this teacher again but stats itself is easy to learn.
Not a bad professor. He says some questionable things and is always talking about gender differences. If you're okay at math then this class should be easy for you. He can be funny. The test questions are based on the homework questions so just review those before a test. Not a lot of homework and for us he didn't do quizzes.
takes multiple days to respond to emails, hw and tests aren't super reflective of what we do in class, confusing project worth a lot of your grade, goes on random rants about women and transgender people and then says you can't get him in trouble bc he will show you "the stats." not the worst but definitely not the best.
I really wanted to like him, but DO NOT take this professor if you struggle with math AT ALL, especially if it's hybrid or online. I ignored the ratings on here and regret it. Refuses to use Canvas, overcomplicates extremely simple concepts and oversimplifies difficult ones. I always felt like I was lost when he lectured.
Best teacher ever. He changed my life.
give this guy a Ted talk he is the listen to his opinions and ask about his his views and his life as a child and his brothers
Dean Pietromonaco will forever be the best teacher of my life. His balance between humour and seriousness is unmatched. Some people may not enjoy the topics of discussion when not about math; some of the topics are women's rights, transgender rights, Dean's past life, and gambling. Take Dean's class if you want to both learn and have some fun.
Easy enough to understand his class, but he would pick on students here and there. He tries his best to be funny and I can appreciate it, but a lot of his jokes just don't land. Nice enough to not be right in our space during tests and exams, but gives out so much homework at random times that don't align with our lectures at all.
hes chill, just doesn't go super into depth in lectures and doesn't explain super well unless you ask detailed questions
Make sure to READ the textbook. He says that the things he goes over in class is on the test DONT BELIEVE THAT.
Dean is the best teacher I have ever had. He may make some odd comments in class but most of the time it's to further the conversation. Dean will tell aptly explain concepts in ways that make more sense then as explained in the textbook. If you take this class Dean will either change your life or you will leave crying. There is no in between
If you are a god fearing Christian I cannot recommend Dean enough. Mr. Pietromonaco says it like it is he is not afraid of being cancelled and doesn't stop to think if something is “politically correct”
Dean is one of the funniest guys I have ever met.he made a lot of girls cry and a lot of other people said they were offended by what he said but I personally wasn't. He does give out a lot of quizzes
Never take Dean. I genuinely hate this man
It feels like Dean has either committed every crime or is related to someone that has. He does sometime get sidetracked or goes of on tangents but other wise he is fantastic
Dean is far and away the best teacher I have ever had. Whenever I attended one of his lectures I felt a genuine wave of joy wash over me. He blurs the lines of comedic genius and a profound educator. He never runs out of stories that tie into that day's lesson while still remaining funny. I wish I had known Dean my whole life. 11/10 best teacher
He's not a dirty linker
Most down to earth teacher I've had yet. Very informed on feminine literature and women's unfair pay gaps. Ask for his secret matcha recipe😉.
