He's a good teacher. He knows his stuff and expects nothing but the best from his students just go to class and do the assignments and make an easy "A". Plus he's kinda cute..lol
Excellent professor... makes class SO MUCH FUN. Tests are multiple choice... listen to lectures and read the text and you can easily get an A!
This was the most fun i have ever had in a class. It was so interesting and he treated us as adults. I loved it!!!
Prof. Wagstaffe is thebest Sociology Prof. I would recommend him toany of my peers an classmates, he's out going, funny, and helpful.
Great guy. This class was fun and interesting...it was one big conversation from start to finish. Come to class and study and its an easy A.
he was fun and very mature, very political correct and blunt..always there to help and seem to love his job and his life and his field...very easy going..awsome!
this class was so much fun! he loves his job and knows his stuff. he did treat us like adults. tests were simple...easy A!
this man is fine
Love the class. Have as an ITV class. Great and funny teacher.
everyday in class was interesting. He made you want to keep coming to class. Tests are fairly easy. Just read the chapters and you will be fine.
Awesome professor. Class is easy to follow and he is very nice. I highly recommend this class.
Dr. Wagstaffe's class is the most fun I have ever had taking a course. Never boring, love the in-class discussions on various controversial subjects. Would recommend.
Omg! What an amazing professor, made every class interesting and envolved everyone. read chapters and you'll ace the tests. and you get to watch scrarface.
Dr. Wagstaffe is an awesome professor. He is very clear on what he expects and he covers all of the subject material in the book. Even though some of the issues are not popular or cause debates, his class is still fun. His grades are based on what the student earns. Okeechobee loves Dr. Wagstaffe!
he was my favorite teacher this semester...tests were not that hard.
Very Good Professor! Easy class if you listen and pay attention. Great Personality too!
This class is very engaging. If you don't like expressing your opinions outloud or do not enjoy debates, this won't be for you. He tries his best to get the entire class involved which can get interesting because he really knows how to push people (which can get awkward sometimes). The class is pretty easy though.
Great teacher!! Fun class! Loved it!! Easy A!!
He's really cool, made the subject fun to learn and he is a funny guy. Your work isn't hard at all. With the test just study and you will pass, if you don't study you won't pass the test. I'd take him any day!
He is a good teacher, he gave a lot of notes that did not cover all of the materials. The best way to pass his class is do the online study guide
He's awesome! Very detailed doesn't miss guide you and looks SOOO GOOD! I would recommend him to anyone!
hes a nice guy, but has unclear tests, lots of trick questions, im pretty sure i failed because if you dont do two essay questions your pretty in the hole and no extra credit
The class was fun and the debates were interesting. As far as the test goes...READ THE BOOK. I reviewed the sections he covered in his power points before every test and I got atleast a B on all of them! Plus he's a cutie. I would take him again
The class and lectures were interesting. Tests are unclear and do not correlate to what you learn in class. I got all A's on all my tests, he lost two of my assignments, that I had to turn back in and I still got a B in the class...if you care about your grades don't take this professor!
he's an OK professor, but if you do not like debates or answering questions every 5 minutes then do not take him....other than that he's interesting and I sorta enjoyed the class
very cool
nice teaching stragety
He's cool, was very helpful with my success in the course. Teaching style is great, lots of debates which were helpful in his exams...I would recommend persons to take his class.
He was kind of hard. your allowed to do some stuff with partners and that really helps! he gardes essays hard but its an interseting class and hes funny/nice!
Great Teacher! Makes everything interesting!
its hard as ****, dont this class in the summer it goes by way to quick, and rushes you to keep up, not to clear on some stuff, and definitly didnt respond to any of my emails, so y tell me
he is a really good teacher...not to many assignments...if you read the book then you will make an A in the class...nice guy really down to earth
he knows his stuff. the class is definitely interesting and controversial. if you're afraid to talk in front of people and state your opinion (while supporting it till your face turns blue) then i highly advise not taking this class. i'm carrying an A right now, just read the text and pay attention. helps having a little eye candy all hour too haha
Entertaining and clear. I absolutely loved the class.
Dr. Wagstaffe is a really good teacher. It is very hard to get an A in his class, but the material is interesting and he always plays video or audio clips that coordinate with the lessons and their honestly not boring at all. Test are hard, only because all information is from the textbook and he gives out no study-guides.2nd time taking him!
SYG 2000 To me he came across as a jerk in the first class. He is a good professor though. I did most of my studying on the book website and did good on the tests. He won't answer stupid questions, so if your a lazy unobservant kid than u prob. won't like him.---and he's pretty hot.
I took him my first semester of college and loved his class! For chapter questions he lets you work in groups of three. There is one short essay (2 pages) and one final essay (4 pages). Also, there are three tests and one final. Those are the only grades. Very easy.
very fun class, fun discussions, tests based mostly off of the powerpoints
Class is always fun. You are always having heated discussions. He does lecture through powerpoints but mainly his tests are based on the key terms of the chapter.
you have to do the class work, test are not to hard but not that easy either. and based on the power-points and vocab in the text book. class was always fun though. debates were crazy best part of class.
At first I didn't like his teaching style, but as time went on I enjoyed the class. You must study, do his on-line quizzes, and his powerpoints are a must because he does not give a study guide. I got an A in his class. Great Professor!!!!!!!!!
Interesting lectures....test are a little confusing. Great teacher.
really down to earth guy, really good looking too.
He's a really funny teacher and his class discussions are always fun. I'd recommend him. His essays can be a bit frustrating. Just read the book and you will be fine.
first day of class he said we WILL need to use the book, and he didn't lie. you'll need to read the chapters if you want to do well on the exams. 3 essays, not difficult to write, but a lot of people seem to fail them. class discussions are very controversial (and fun!). all in all, not bad. i'd reccommend if you'll put effort into it.
You have to read the book. He doesn't teach on anything in his exams. The exams are very confusing. Spends most of the class period on discussions not needed which turns into debates. I would not recommend taking him.
Just read the textbook and do the online practice tests and you'll have a decent grade. If you don't enjoy open discussions you won't like the class
GOOD TEACHER...U MUST READ THE BOOK TO DO GOOD ON TEST! OPEN TALKS..MUST ENGAGE URSELF TO MAKE THE CLASS FUN
I would not recommend this teacher at all. Read the book, class turns into debates, you have to write essays which he grades them like an english teacher would, his tests are somewhat confusing and everything he teaches is not on the tests.. good luck
if you are a lazy student please dont take this class. you have to be motivated and you must read the textbook. good professor, but i would recommend him only for motivated and mature students
Nice guy. 4 test. 3 essays(2 short 2pg essays and 1 4pg final essay). He grades his essays very strictly, so put full attention them and don't slack/procrastinate. they contribute a large part to your grade. Get your perspectives down flat, and don't mistake this class as an "easy" class. No/minimum effort=C, if you're happy with that. Don't dawdle
This class is not for someone that has a heavy load already! Although attendance is mandatory, every class turns into a debate. You'll be reading the book by yourself to pass. His email hardly works, and when it does he does NOT reply as soon as you would need him to. Communication SUCKS.
Took this class over summer so it was fast, he never took attendance. you MUST read the book and study the power points, & then some. Definitely not a "slack" class. The tests were pretty hard. but the debate presentation was easy and the essay was easy. Good teacher.
GREAT CLASS! Wish he would teach at BA level as well. Take him, you will learn so much and it forces you to interact...and THINK. Mature and engaging class, exactly what college is all about. Ok....and hes fun to look at.
he is a great teacher, his class is very interesting especially the views each person has on society, this class is the most fun class ever however to pass his class you have to read the book especially before exam i realize most example in the book was on the tests. its awesome take his class
The class was interesting but if you are shy it's not for u because theres alot of group discussions. The tests are very hard ,and I never fully understood the sociological perspectives even by the end of the term. If an essay is 1 day late he drops it ALOT of points mine went from a B to an F.Besides those things he did pass me when not deserved.
This teacher grades very hard. He looks at each answer and his tests are unclear. He is a nice guy, but he doesn't give grades for a good effort. The class does debate a lot, sometimes debates can last for a half hour, but none of the debates are on the tests; the debates just take up time. All he seems to do is read off of the powerpoint.
Wagstaffe never answers his emails!!
he was a good teacher but you better make sure that you have a working email address to email projects. you cant hand deliver any assignments.
i just had this professor and eventhough his class isn't an easy A you will definitely learn something. there are alot of debates but they do make you think which is the reason for college anyway.
you have to read the book because it's that's what all the tests are based on. his essay's are not simply, you may understand everything but it will not make sense. he does use powerpoint but its pointless so no point of writing anything down. a lot of in class discussions. he may seem nice but is very hard on you. i would never take his class agai
This man loves to hear himself talk and comes off extremely arrogant. However, he is very knowledgeable about this subject and I learned a lot. Read the book and take the online practice tests and the actual tests won't be hard. The debates were fun but it was hard to participate because I took a live T.V. interactive course. Overall, not bad.
Although his class was ridiculously easy, I definitely feel as if he had his favorites (if you know what I mean). Rarely responds to email and never posts grades on the angel shell.:-(
He is an okay person, he does have favorites it's obvious. You do need to read the book on your own time however. The in class debates are fun, he really makes you think with his contradictions. I had fun in his class.
There is no point in emailing him, he will not respond and it takes him forever to grade/post submitted papers online.
Dr. Wagstaffe was not the easiest class i've taken, but i did learn alot. you are forced to think and reading the book is an absolute must. if you take his class be prepared to work but also be prepared to learn.
He was an awesome teacher! He really challenged my thinking. He does talk a lot, but what teacher doesn't? He did have a lot of class participation with many different topics. HE US AWESOME!
taking his online social problems class. I am not sure why people say he doesn't respond to his E-mails... he ALWAYS responds to my Emails within a 48 hour period. THe class itself is interesting, but you have to write 4 large papers a long with duscussion boards and 4 exams. It is a lot of work. Requires the most time for an online class ever!
AWESOME PROFESSOR!! Dr Wagstaffe is the best! Though his classes require alot of reading and writing, it's still easy to get an A. You will definately learn alot; this man knows his stuff!
I drop the class after the 2 one. He seems to be cocky with a chip on his shoulder. He has Militant Style! Good Luck!
I took this class online. All the exams are open book at home. But to go along with your grade, you have discussion questions, short papers, and a final paper. The class was kinda hard, but i had a heavy load with other classes.
I had an issue with my grade jumping DOWN two grades, after I was certain I would pass. He doesn't respond to emails AT ALL so good luck. He even told us so at the beginning of the semester. He was an okay teacher, but don't take him if you enjoy hunting down your prof.
clear and concise... makes sure that if he thinks you might be in danger of failing thate does everything he can to help you out... isnt so good at replying to emails... but overall i have no complaints
There is a lot of worked required in this class, but it is well worth it. Dr. Wagstaffe is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. You absolutely have to read the chapters in the text though to do well on his tests.
Extremely picky with his assignments. He wants you to ELABORATE. If you get one question wrong, you get a 0. Wonderful teacher, very knowledgable, but know that youll have to put work in to get an A.
This class is very interactive. There is a discussion during every class about the material covered in the text. I had a lot of fun in this class. Writting intensive.
Took Dr. W for SYG. Class was very enjoyable. The 4 exams were extremely hard, also had to write 4 papers, which he grades pretty critically. Only would recommend taking him if you are committed. I got a B, and i didn't read and did some studying for the tests....
If you study the practice quizzes on Angel a bunch of times and go over the book and powerpoints you will get an A. If you miss more than 3 classes your grade drops. He's a good teacher but if you don't study you will not get a good grade. also, be prepared to talk in class because he asks students a lot of questions
Excellent Professor take him if you can. Not too bad to look at either. Yessssss
He is a great teaecher. The class discussions make you want to go to the class but with the assisgnments you just have to make sure you answer the question correctly and ellaborate or you will get a 0...But wonderful class and teacher
Pretty easy class. He calls on everyone to answer during class discussions, but don't worry because everything he asks you is opinion based so you can't be wrong. He gives partner work sometimes that you will need your book for but he'll tell you ahead of time to bring them. He grades fair and his exams are straight forward. Just study your notes.
Dr. Wagstaffe is a great teacher. Most of the class is discussion, so expect to be called on frequently to give your opinion on the subject matter. The objectives on the power points tell you exactly what you need to know for tests and he also gives plenty of opportunity for extra credit. It was a pretty easy class.
Very interesting class! Everything was very well organized & all our assignments were given to us at the beginning of the semester which was awesome since it was online. Tests can be challenging, just study the chapters and specific, important details and concepts. Good discussion questions and essay assignments!
I took this class because I enjoyed intro to sociology so much. Wagstaffe is clearly interested in what he teaches making the class very enjoyable. Only downside is one debate.
This class was excellent. Professor is passionate about his subject. All tests are based off of objectives given to you at the beginning of each powerpoint. He gives plenty of chances to get your homework right and earn extra credit. Would recommend this class to anyone. He is also very helpful and detailed in what your work should include.
I took him for a morning class. He is literally so hilarious, and he is always asking questions to make you think. The arguments are expected because it's sociology and opinions are always wanted. But it's worth it. I absolutely love it.
He was an awesome professor. He would incite class discussions and it made class more interesting. It was cool to see life through other people's eyes. He is from Jamaica and sometimes he'll talk about the culture there. Overall awesome teacher and I loved his class.
Professor Wagstaffe is a phenomenal teacher. Absolutely LOVE every single one of his lectures. You will have to participate in class conversations and work with partners A LOT. Totally worth taking. All you need to know is the Chapter Objectives to pass the tests. Fair Grader. Nothing else to say! Definitely would take for any class!
This is one of my favorite professors I've had a t this school. His lectures are amazing, he really gets into them, he is very clear and always helps out when you need it. I recommend him to everyone!
I took this class online, so, it was quite a bit harder. He posts Powerpoints, by which you have 20 question quizzes due every week. For me, the tests were tough. Then again, you do have to teach yourself given that its an online class. 2 papers- follow the grading criteria to a "T"! Don't take unless you're disciplined. Great at emailing back.
Took online. Posts powerpoints, w which you have 20 question quizzes due every week. For me tests were really tough-given that you have to teach yourself with online classes. Also, very time-limited. Q's on tests were hard and some answers could be 5050 because they're very similar. 2 papers- FOLLOW grading criteria- will be graded harshly.
Wagstaffe is tactful, organized, funny, and passionate about the subject. His lectures are always interesting and relatable. He will call on students for opinion and input but there are no wrong answers. There are extra credit quizzes and his tests are easy if you go over the chapter objectives and go in on review days. He's a great teacher!
Class participation is key to learning and Dr. Wagstaffe encourages it. He's a straight-forward kinda guy and easy to get along with. Every week you have an opportunity to earn extra credit through bonus quizzes. He makes it fun to review for tests and gives bonus points for participating. Pay attention, and it is impossible to fail.
Loved this class. He is an amazing professor and his class was always great fun for me. I will miss it. I recommend.
He is so funny and probably the only teacher that I truly enjoy his lectures. He makes you work for your grade. He does give extra credit so do it! There are 2 essays make sure you do them or you'll fail. His lectures are exactly whats on the test.
Very passionate about what he teaches. Funny, interactive lectures. Tough grader, but work hard and you'll earn your A. Don't wait until last minute on those essays, he can tell. You def need the book. Keep your powerpoints. Would recommend.
Wagstaffe is very passionate about sociology but he is not the best professor. Class is very tough and have to work VERY hard for good grade. You write 2-3 short essays and then a final essay which is a min of 4 pages. If you have a few grammatical errors, he will give you a terrible grade. I will never take him again bc i always get good grades..
Wagstaffe? More like SWAGSTAFFE! This professor is awesome and is incredibly knowledgeable about this field (and likes students to know it). His tests are pretty straightforward and make sure to do the extra credit because he offers a lot. Take this class if you like debating because that is what you will be doing!
Best class I've taken so far. His tests are very straight-forward IF you study. The Power Points and chapter objectives are exactly like the test. Gives a ton of extra credit but you have to work for it. There are only two 2-pg essays and one 4-pg final essay. Tough grader on the essays so make sure there's no grammatical errors.
His class are very interesting. He is very intelligent, and very serious. DO NOT BE LATE, nor talk during lectures, eat or drink. His exams are super hard even though he goes over them the day before, word per word from the exam. If you pay attention, do the require homework and study you will be fine. I would take him again.
Overall the class was good. He definitely gets everyone involved during lectures. Grades things last minute, and hard to get ahold of outside of class. Other than that he was a good teacher and a fun class.
He grades really heavy on essays, so if you are not the best of writer BEWARE do not take him.
This class is somewhat easy. I believe he is a tough grader though, only because he seems to be confusing about his expectations of your work. There are three papers and 4 tests, one of which is the final and it is not cumulative.
This class is definitely challenging, especially online. I'm a great writer and i make all A's on my english essays, but he failed one of my essays. He also offered extra credit, but never put it in. there's a lot of work in this class and he never answers emails.
I would not recommend this teacher to anyone. He was a horrible teacher. Book barley used. Which I could rate 0. Does not teach well at all. His test are super hard because he doesn't teach. You spend your class talking about what ever gets brought up. The biggest thing is he grades his paper ridiculously hard even though they are hard to write.
Took him online for intro to sociology. He uses online homework and the textbook really helps. Tests and quizzes are similar. He messaged the class every week to let us know what chapter we were on & what assessments we had coming up. Some discussion boards that are insightful. Class itself has lots of info so you need to study & youll be good.
Professor Wagstaffe was one of my first online courses. I had an issue and he responded after 2 wks. I received feedback on 1 assignment, sends weekly announcements to go over the weeks lesson in a summary. Exams 50%, discussions 15%, two essays 15%, quizzes 10%, assignments 10% of grade. Online course is to the point, no extra bells or whistles.
Very tough grader and he is NOT clear on his expectations. Assignments received little to NO feedback. Good luck if you have a question, he did not email me back hardly ever at all. Sometimes he sends out weekly summaries for the week. He takes a long time to grade, (weeks to a month even). Seems like he has a heavy work load.
This professor likes to nit pick at just about everything you will do in his class. He's never satisfied with anything. He will always make you feel like what you know is not good enough. If you take his class, GOOD LUCK.
Professor Wagstaffe is a good teacher and definitely knows his stuff. Lots of discussion in his class. Can be really funny. Offers lots of extra credit opportunities- if you take a class with him, definitely take advantage of that. If you do your homework, study, and participate, taking a class with him can be really fun.
If you want to learn about life and yourself take this class. If you don't and you want an easy A don't take. Professor Wagstaffe is a tough grader, but you're in college and he does give you the chance to redo a paper if you get a bad grade.
I took his social problems class and it was very good. The focus was on solutions not just talking about problems. You have to work for it, but you will definitely learn something. Would take him again.
Online sociology with this professor is pretty basic; two papers are assigned and there are online quizzes on the chapters. He isn't incredibly specific with his requirements for the essays which is bothersome. The tests and quizzes are very straight-forward. Discussion board posts are an important part of this class and are assigned regularly.
Took his introduction to sociology course and had to work for my grade. did learn a lot though, so if you are interested in learning something take his course. If you are not, then avoid this professor.
In this class even though it's a Sociology class, before taking this class grammer is a must. He will lower your grade if Grammer is not perfect.
This class was all about group participation and we had a lot of discussion as a class, which is good to help you understand the material. Class can be a little uninteresting at times but as long as you pay attention in the lectures and participate in discussion you'll do fine on the tests. Then there's a couple papers to do that were easy too.
I took his introduction to sociology course and thought he was a good teacher. i received a B in the course and he does give you chances to redo some of your assignments for a better grade. I don't quite understand a comment that someone posted about mental struggle to give you an A. That doesn't make sense. Anyway, i would take him again.
Once you get to know him you will realize he is a pretty great guy who is very intelligent. He does ask a lot of questions that require off the top of the head responses but the purpose is to get you thinking critically outside your own typical way of thinking. Be prepared to read and read again. Prepare to answering questions in complete sentences
Had him online and the class was good. You have to read the material to earn your grade. Would take another class with him.
He is strongly forceful in the way he teaches. If you dont agree with him via essay, dont expect to receive a good grade. Although you are supposed to show your opinion based answers, he expects them to be a certain way.
You will learn alot in his course, but you have to work for it. Not an easy A.
All the homework was due before class, so we were teaching ourselves. Although he wanted us to tell our opinion, he would give us bad grades if he didn't agree. He gave everyone the same exact comments for the final essay. Don't expect a good grade on the papers unless you are a perfect writer with no grammatical errors.
This is one of the best class that ive taken. you have to read the book and be prepared to answer lots of questions. if you read and participate you will learn alot. not an easy A though, but good class.
He is a great instructor and analyze all your essay thoroughly and read before coming into class. Have your book because it will be needed in class and for HW. Most exams were based on the books objectives and slide shows.
You just have to be ready to work. You can have different opinions with Wagstaffe, just be prepared to back them up with accuracy. He's not very friendly, or else I would've rated him a five. It's a very strict teacher-student relationship and he's kind of rigid, but he's super smart and very conversational concerning what he teaches you.
Great, open minded teacher. Makes you really thinking about his material and real world problems. The ONLY people Ive ever seen upset in his class were ones who had a hard time doing work or paying attention in class. He encourages your growth as a student. Hes my favorite professor. Highly Recommend but be ready to do your work.
He makes you think and the class discussions are fun, but he is too tough with grading.
One of my favorite classes and profs I've ever had. Gave super helpful and clear feedback on anything that got less than a perfect grade.
This teacher is the toughest grader I have ever had. Nit picks every sentence you write and is quick to take the points off. Tons of reading and writing assignments. You've been warned.
Very good with giving feedback and replying to emails fast, Any time i got a grade less than 100, he told me why and gave me a chance to fix it. Get ready for a lot of homework though.
Professor Wagstaffe was the most difficult teacher I have ever had. I am an A student and the effort I put into this class was exhausting! In the time it took me to submit and write one paper, It would be sent back as I was working on the next. Sometimes Id have to redo 3 times each paper! The professor will not pass you if you do not share beliefs
One of the best classes I've had. You have to read and do the work but you will learn something.
Dont take this class during one of the half semesters. Large amount of weekly work load compared to previous online classes/short term classes. Grading is more critical on papers then higher English classes and harder to fix as comments are not clear. Prof is nice and works with you on issues on completing work though. Interesting topics as well.
This is the class where you have to prepare to speak up. He values participation which is not a bad thing because he will get you to understand. He does provide a lot of homework but it's not anything hard especially when you go to class and actually read through the book. A very respected professor, and he provides great feedback:)
Dr. Wagstaffe was a great professor and this class was interesting. I enjoyed the group assignments and made some friends along the way
slow grader for sure and isnt the best with response timing but i passed and its over now luckily he does allow you to resubmit assignments which is nice and does have extra credit
The course content is interesting and the professor is nice and clearly intelligent. The problem is that his expectations are not very clear and he's a slow grader. You definitely don't get a grade on the prior assignment in time to know what to change/not change for the next one and that is stressful. I do feel it may have been better in person.
Dr. Wagstaffe is a good teacher overall. In his class, you have to read the textbook and powerpoints he creates to do well. There is lots of information in each chapter so sometimes it can be challenging, but he gives multiple chances on questions on quizzes. He also responds quickly to emails and gives good feedback. I would definitely recommend.
The prof is tough but fair - he gives detailed feedback to help you improve. Assignments require a lot of work, but using tools like unstuckstudy can make study prep easier. Overall, an engaging class if you're willing to put in the effort.
The course material is straightforward and easy to grasp, but the instructor offers minimal help when issues arise. She frequently tells students to contact support, and once they do, she simply states there's nothing more she can do. This lack of support makes troubleshooting unnecessarily frustrating. Dean Wagstaffe offers absolutely no aid.
His class was okay at first, but after this semester, I would not take another one with him. We practically taught ourselves the material because he had us do the HW before the lesson...not very helpful. Each week was a different version of him, one week he enjoyed teaching, the next he acted as if we were inconveniencing him by showing up to class.
Good teacher, lots of readings
Very harsh grader and super picky about essays!
