Comes to class unprepared, not very good, kind of strange
I took her summer 02, Great instructor. Fun, makes you speak Spanish. Hard. You have to study a lot!!
She was such a great teacher! Very inspiring. She made class really fun & explained things very clearly. Her class is conducted all in Spanish, which makes it a little more challenging, but worth it, because you learn so much!
Very sweet; only problem is I would like more explanations in terms of English rather than picking it up totally by emersion.
The best!! Very passionate instructor. I loved her class. It made me love Spanish. I can actually speak with my girlfriend's family now.If you are lazy and do not prepare fof yuor classes. do not take her.
Best teacher I've ever had! Classes are fun but challenging. Anyone can learn the language with a teacher like her. Her text book is great too.
This class was very hard for me due to the fact that I had never written in spanish. And had no clue about the alphabet or about the grammer. In a way it was good for me that it was hard because I have the confidence to write in spanish now.
An excellent teacher! I was so fortunate to have taken this class under her. I didn't think learning a foreign language was so much fun. Her book's superb, too. I'll definetly use her textbook for Span 130 for independent learning.
Excellent teacher. I took two of her classes. She gave me the tools to take more advanced classes. Be ready for a lot of homeworks. Never come to class unprepared. If you want to have good foundations in Spanish, take her class. Highly recommended.
Mrs. Alonso is a wonderful teacher, I like everything about her, I'm looking forward to have another class with her, that is Span 216. I like the way she teaches, always in a sheerful mood.
Very disorganized. Doesn't give anyone a brake unless you're one of the students who sucks up to her. She's very social but not a good teacher. She gets very angry if you leave early. You can't miss any work or else your grade drops a whole letter.
really good teacher, i wouldnt say shes hard, any spanish class is a challage- she is extremely helpful. a bit moody sometimes but hey, arent we all! see ya in the fall
moooooody!!shes pretty hard! dont miss any assignments!
Just wonderful! I am an older student who truly appreciates her innovative approach to teaching, her passion for the subject matter and her personality. Always greeted us with a big smile. She has no patience for inmature or rude students, THANK YOU!!
Mean and unorganized. She thinks she is something.
I had her last semester- she is mor organized, intergetic, and fun. Has creative ways of teaching new material. Excellent teacher.
extremely cheerful and energetic. dont miss any hw or be late. very helpful. i learned a lot in the class.
Lots of tests.very disorganized.kiss up to her.if u want an A.dont miss any assignments.Shes too fast pace. take someone else if you arent strong in the language. But the book is good. She's very political and opinionated.if you have an 89.9 u better believe you arent getting an A.
Mrs. Alonso is a very inovative teacher and was just named Southwestern's Professor of the Year. She deserves it! Thank you for a g reat class.
It's hard to find teachers these dayz who truly care about their students. MS. A is the best teacher i have ever had. Study the matieral and you'll definently get an a. Good luck and enjoy, im gonna miss her.

I agree, wonderful teacher. She was just named swc's number one teacher, have fun!
she is the best teacher you can ever have, she is hard, but you will learn for sure and have fun at the same time.
As long as you do the homework and your vocab def. you will do fine. For the test she gives you an outline on whats on it. She also gives a bunch of extra credit and all you have to do is watch movies and write one page on them.
She's funny and can get your attention for the class time. its not boring, she's organized and you don't dedicated a lot of time for the homework 30 minutes max. and you actually learn good grammer. Good luck and don't get there late (she hates that).
Worst teacher ever, do yourself a favor DO NOT TAKE HER. She is not organized at all and she thinks she knows it all. If you really want to learn spanish take another teacher.
I agree
La profe rocks! Hard but fun. I learned so much. She is such a good teacher. I took two semesters with her. Do your personal dictionary and do not miss class!!
perfect!!!!
i had her class a couple of semesters ago. it was really fun. we did lots of group activities which helps you practice your spanish. you do have to study but it's not time consuming. it doesn't take long to understand. just go to class everyday and the the hw. i did good in most of my work and she let me the final.
If you want an easy class, and not learn a thing. This is the right class for you.
I think she is a great professor but she dose give homwork on a daily basis. If your interested in taking spanish this is the professor you want
it very easy class just do ur homework and classwork u get easy grade... i even did homework during class and finish it on time
Excellent profesor! I wish she tought some more spanish classes because i'd definately come back for more!
Amazing! She loves her job and she is very good at it. You must be prepared to do homework EVERY night and attend every class and participate. She makes class fun with lots of games and fun assignments. She is silly but very serious about teaching. I hope she decides to teach advanced classes in later semesters. She is brilliant.
If your going to take span 130 with her make sure you take 120 with her as well. I did not and she has taken a very clear disliking to me.
I took her like 4 years ago, and she is BY FAR the best teacher I've ever had. She is so so so much fun - you'll have a blast in class and learn a lot. You'll end up loving Spanish, even if you thought you never would. She is THAT GOOD!
As someone else said, she is a very good teacher for spanish speaking students, but terrible towards non spanish speaking students (the majority of her class). She is very bias towards students and has "favorites." Especially when it comes to handing out class participation points, which is a good portion of the grade. The wastes class time with ta
If your going to take la profe for spanish classes make sure you take both with her. She picks faviorets and they are from her 120 class. To get participation make sure you keep your hand raised(this is where youll see favorets) I regret taking her class.
She is very unorganized. As a result of that she doesn't return quizes or tests in a timely manner. She strives to speak only Spanish in her class which can be confusing and frustrating if you are having problems.
I did not take 120 with her and got lots of participation. Great teacher, you will learn so much! Yes, you have to work hard and do homeowrk every day. Class is fun and she makes you speak in Spanish. gracias profe!

worse teacher ever. She is sooooo moody and it top of that she is never open to help you. Take another teacher, take her sister she is much, much nicer and better instructor.
Very knowledgeable, however you MUST put in 100% or she WILL let you know you are slacking. I held back tears one day when she put me on the spot for not understanding. If you are willing to do all the homework you will be fine...otherwise don't even bother! I did gain a good beginning understanding of the language though.
The course is difficult and requires hours or study. We had a huge class and most have dropped due to the level of difficulty, attendance issues, and maturity issues. This professor is hard, but she is fair in grading. I give her high marks in integrity, and medium/low marks for describing homework and exam preps in Spanish. Clarity is a must!
She has favorites in class and is not helpful to students who speak english. Contridicting and disorganized.
i'm sorry, but i consider any professor requiring her own textbooks to be a racket.
THIS IS THE WORST PROF. AT SOUTHWESTERN. I have been here for almost 3 years and she is terrible. Do yourself a favor and find someone else.
Shame on all those who have said anything bad about this teacher. She was one of the best teachers I ever had. All you have to do is show up to class like your suppose to and study like your suppose to and you will get an A!
She is phenomenal. I got an A because I work hard, but also because she explains everything with details that make the class easy to understand. I even didn't take the final exam due to my grades.
You either love her or hate her. I loved her. She's really funny and nice if you show up and do the work. She doesn't accept laziness and doesn't tolerate people unwilling to learn or hindering others. Do your homework, show up for class, pay attention, and you'll get an A and be exempt from her final. Slightly disorganized, but not too bad.
She a fun teacher! very dedicated to her students
Great teacher! She assigns a lot of homework but it is very necessary when learning a new language. She is very helpful and understanding. She also gives you a lot of extra credit chances. This teacher is very fun and outgoing. But she definitely does not put up with unfocused students. I highly recommend Mrs. Alonso. :)
Class is fun but attendance is a big part of your grade, and there is a lot of online hw, which sucks if you have a life or a job, because there were assignments due at midnight every day of the week. She's definitely nicer than her sister though, but they are both very unorganized and cooky.
I had this professor for 2 diff.classes.. not easy classes, but you can't expect to learn anything good if its all easy. If you're a good student she will do whatever is in her power to help you.If you are lazy and want an easy A then dont bother.Learning the book material is verry important don't just finish it to get credit,STUDY FROM IT!
Ms. Alonso has an attitude; thinks she's the hottest but does not give too much, especially if you are not native Spanish speaker. It is unfair to have so many Spanish speakers in class when the class is for native speakers of English. And it's true she does not speak Englin because she cannot communicate well in English. She is a bluff!
Definitely the most frivolous and superficial of all her peers. Wants to give the impression that she is very important and the hottest teacher of the block.
She believes she's the best; she thinks she's a professor but does not teach college material. You can learn on your own and pass the class.
The so-called upper level has no content. It is stuff for teens not for adults. And yes, the teacher has an attitude cz she thinks she's above the students. Her English sucks!!
Study on your own and you'll pass. It's stuff for kids.
It'll be painful to take another class with her. It is not the class content but the attitude she has twds. students. It's time for her to quit.
she is a great instructor. She is fun and interesting. I loved the class. She made me work really hard for my A-. I feel I speak so much better because of her. WOW, she has been through most of Latin America and she makes language and culture become real!!!
She is the best! She smiles a lot :). She always helps you if you have trouble. I was never afraid to ask her questions or speak with her after class because of that. If I was not transferring, I would take her for 102. I never missed class because it was fun and she was always nice to us. I had a 99% in the class. Take her! You will learn a lot!
This is the most frivolous instructor I have come across, but she knows more than most students taking 101 and 215.
Wonderful instructor. She prepares her classes carefully designed to be fun, engaging and interesting. You must do your work and not miss class. She does not put up with lazy students! I loved her class.
DON'T LIKE THIS PROFESSOR! NOT HELPFUL. THINK IS THE BEST.
Very Nice lady. Her class is tough and not recommended if you dont know any Spanish at all. May be ok for someone coming from high school Spanish or if you speak it and want to learn the proper language. She is co Author of the Book used in class & its a good book but its rushed through in class.15 chapters You need to be fluent to pass that final!
It is a class for kids, not for adults. Other instructors prepare a class for all the students, not only for those who are false beginners.
I really enjoyed this class. She makes class fun. She doesn't really lecture. Instead, she incorporates a variety of activities to help you learn. The games and activities were fun. Still, it is a lot of work. You will have lots of assignments and need to complete them to get a good grade. Learning and practicing the language is key.
The class veers to two extremes: One is lots if simple activities that do not require much effort. They are entertaining, yes, but not too useful. On the other hand, there is a lot to cover, and we don't do enough. Prof. full of self importance, thinks too highly of herself to accept student suggestions.
This class is not inspiring, I would not take again, and did not learn much. The course is extremely heterogeneous. It is a melange of 101, 102 and something else that I cannot identify. It is not for students who have a solid background in Spanish.
if you passed spanish 101 with a C and a basic understanding of the class, this class going to be really super gnarly hard for you.
Very demanding professor. She had no problem with FLUENT spanish speakers taking her class as long as they "had trouble" writing in spanish. Grades ridiculously tough. If you miss an accent on one word, 2 points off on a test. Does not clarify homework, expects you to know what it is and how to do it. Would not recommend.
She does not have clear grading criteria, but is a tough grader. The classes are not amazing and I would not take again. It is true that she is inclined to favor native speakers, but she may not even have respect for them. She thinks she is above everyone!
i liked the class a lot! Hard but she makes class fun with many activities and songs and games.
Really good but hard. She gives extra credit and 2 field trips . Those are fun. Lectures are excellent and entertaining.
Her lectures are really fun and understandable as long as you pay attention and have a solid understanding of basic Spanish. She will call on you for answers to her practice questions, so be ready to speak in front of the class and earn extra credit for it. Her tests are not very difficult as long as you do the HW and pay attention in class.
Her lectures are fun and understandable as long as you pay attention and have a solid understanding of basic Spanish. She will call on you to answer questions in front of the class, but it will earn you extra credit. If you do the HW, you'll do well on her tests.
She does not lecture, she just gives high-toned instructions about things you should not do in class. The worst part is to buy her expensive books that are hardly ever used in class. Isn't there a conflict of interest?
Professor assigns a lot of homework but she is very helpful if you make the time to talk to her . As long as you do all your homework , attend every day class meeting and study It should an easy A.
I would not take again 'cz mandatory courses should have less moody and high-toned teachers. The high-schoolish methods she uses turned me off.
You can pass if you show up and raise your hand. But it hurts to buy her book with all the grammar errors at an expensive price
She was my Spanish teacher in the early 90's at Citrus College, Glendora. She was great! You get as much out as you put in.
Professor Alonso makes the class interesting and facilitates learning with a variety of activities. She is enthusiastic and encouraging and always willing to help you over the hard parts.
She gets tough once in a while but she is getting ready to go. As this little school is growing, soon they will be requesting advanced degrees such as a PhD, something she desired to have but was unable to complete.
