Very good looking, hard to concentrate. Very helpful
Very ugly. Can't stand to look at her. Hard teacher, tons of homework. Does NOT give partial credit on exams unless you fill out a lengthy form explaining why you deserve it. This class is academic suicide. Worst. Teacher. Ever.
Great teacher. Does not give the easy way out, so you actually learn. Very dedicated to her students, if you take the time she is always there for you.

took it with her and got a 1.0 took it with a good teacher and a got a 3.9 agreed, worst. teacher. ever.
Leoni is really nice and is readily available for assistance. I just can't stand math. Her online tests are organized very well, but her in class tests are evil.
She is an excellent teacher but still difficult. Very positive and above adverage patience.
Not the best instructor, but also not the worst. She talked so well, it seemed like she could read minds and plan every answer to every question. I only got a 3.4 in this class, but in math 90 (which is supposed to be harder) I got a 4.0. Meet this instructor in her office before deciding on her class. If you like her, go for it!
She knows how to teach and clearifies the problems. There are take home quizzes every week. It helps a lot with your grades. Attendance and homework is a must, take 2 points. Tests in class are fair. There are take home tests, too. Anything that are take home is better for your grade. Always be there for students when need help.
This is the teacher if you want to learn. Very helpful, even when I was in my next class. I am planning on taking her again next quarter. If you want to actually learn, take her class. If you are looking for some B.S. class where you don't learn and still pass. Take someone else.
Best math teacher so far. She is clear and makes you understand very well. Homeworks are a must. take her if you seek knowledge.
Very nice teacher. Takes care to make concepts clear. Uses a lot of non-book examples in order to give students as many examples as possible. Takes time every day to clarify difficult homework problems... so do your homework so you have good questions.
She's a great teacher! Very clear examples! But sometimes her apparel can get in the way of teaching... Thats a good thing! :)
Stats is a hard class in general, but she teaches well. always willing to help you out in anyway possible. really good one on one if needed. i recommend her.
She is very hepful. You just need to complete online homeworks, worksheets, take-home quizzes on time to get good grade.
She is a very sweet teacher, always helpful and has a lot of patience. Her tests can be hard but if you study, you'll do fine. She is also very pretty!
Her statistics class was very fun and engaging. At the beginning of the quarter, she surveyed the students and we used the data for various assignments. Used M&Ms for an activity and got to eat them afterwards. She teaches very clearly and her tests are fair. Uses many examples for clarification. I would recommend her.
Extremely helpful, will always answer a question that you have. Quizzes are online and have up to 5 attempts on each question. Tests are a bit harder which are in class.
Tests are the hardest part of the class. There is something wrong when the class average on one test was 62%. Either her tests are too hard or she is a bad teacher, and she does not address this problem. If the average is nearly an F, you have a problem.
Tests, quizes and assignments are very hard. But she is very helpful. Extra point(3 credits)
Assignments is a bit hard but they certainly help. Tests are much easier than assignments.Remember to do the review before every test, or at least take a look.
The most helpful instructor ever! I would recommend anyone to take her class! She is very nice, helpful and explains everything very nicely! I enjoyed learning Math in her class! She's the best instructor ever! Deann will not just cut your points Bcs the answer is wrong, she'll give u points for ur work as well!
Deann is an amazing instructor! I enjoyed learning Math in her class! She is very nice, helpful and explains everything very clearly! She will not cut your whole points just because your answer is wrong; she'll still give you points for your work! I would recommend anyone to take her Math class! It was fun and she gives 10 extra credits!
One of the best math teachers I have ever had. The class was definitely hard but she made calc a lot easier than normal.
I really enjoyed Deann, she is really nice. Although the class is almost entirely online, you still need to come to class for participation points and partner assignments. She is always willing to help and does a great job at it! This class isn't too hard if stay on schedule and spend time outside of class to do the work.
She uses multiple types of helpful teaching styles and techniques. She uses different colored pens on the board, multimedia, demonstrates math problems on her tablet and then e-mails them to the student, and even creates videos for the students, showing them how to do specific problems. She goes out of her way to teach.
If you want a good grade, DON'T EVER TAKE HER CLASS !!! she gives tons of assignments ! It will take hours to make it
Ms. Leoni was the best math teacher I had in years. Not only was she completely understanding, but she cared about her students' success in the class. She also was fantastic at explaining everything we went over throughout the quarter. The hardest part was when she was gone for a week and we had a sub. Honestly, though, great instructor!
Deann is a great teacher! Very helpful. Explains the material clearly. Offers "late passes" to receive full credit on late homework and quizzes. Fair grader. Offers partial credit for trying on tests. I would recommend her.
Practically perfect in every way. So organized, and so helpful (even if you email her in the evening before a quiz). She uses multiple colored markers on the board, and also releases weekly schedules so you never miss an assignment. Very fair with partial-credit and extra-credit. No points off for missing class, and 5 free "passes" for late HW.
Deann is a wonderful teacher. She's very organized which structures the class very well. Homework is directly from classwork, and tests and quizzes are always on material covered. Very helpful and nice. Attendance not mandatory, but worth it for a good grade
Deann is a great teacher. She is more interactive than many other math teachers and will encourage students to work together. I most appreciate her active role in teaching, and how she encourages her students to be active learners. You will benefit most by actively listening and asking questions during her lectures.
Deann is the kind of teacher that really makes you understand every little thing you need to know to thoroughly comprehend the topic. She is lively and friendly and is very clear in her grading criteria, which is very reasonable. Attendance isn't mandatory, but recommended; you don't want to miss her clear lectures. Do your work on time for an A
She is an amazing teacher. This was my first quarter and first time taking a college level math course and she made everything crystal clear. She will help understand you. I would recommend taking her for any math class you can!
Class was taught using "Flipped Classroom Method", meaning in-class time is for group activity and reviewing homework q's as opposed to traditional lecture and note taking. She posts vids ,reading material, and hw online . watch , read, and practice to succeed. She's very friendly and very willing to help with questions. Online textbook very clear
She's literally the best math teacher at Edmonds. If you get to have her, you're lucky.
I have many great math teachers in my life, but Leoni Deann is the best one. If you don't understand, come to her office hour and ask questions.
Leoni is super sweet, however to pass the class you should really do all the homework and watch all the videos. She explains concepts really well and you should get a good grade if you do all the work she provides.
REALLY GOD TEACHER! KNOWS THE SUBJECT AND HOW TO EXPLAIN IT, JUST DO ALL HOMEWORKS AND YOU WILL BE FINE.
Take over, even if the time is might a bit inconvenient. Way worth it. Trust me.
She doesn't do lectures. Does activities in class. Lot of HW and Quizzes. If you do all in class and out of class activities and HW, you probably wouldn't need lectures. Tests and quizzes are easy, so is the HW. In class activity was probably the hardest.
Shes nice but really tough grader
Deann is a great teacher! I learned so much from her class and all of the online homework helped solidify my learning. Make sure to do the book homework because all of the quizzes are based on it. Also, make sure to have a planned schedule of when to do homework because it builds up fast.
My only complaint about her is that she makes the only homework that is not graded, the homework that matters the most.
Deann is an AMAZING teacher. Pick her, even if you are on waitlist. She is worth it. She gives P4Cs which are videos to watch before class, and she uses the flipped classroom method. You have to truly dedicate your time for this class in order to score well. Tests and quizzes are not hard IF YOU STUDY WELL.
Math is my worst subject. But she makes it so easy. Always there to help you. GO to her office hours if you need help she helps out lot. Glad I took this class
Deann is an amazing math teacher. She puts in the effort to actually care for her students and help them all succeed. Her classes consist of in-class assignments that are done in groups. Although challenging at time, they're easy if you did the homework due the night prior. Her tests are not extremely tough, they're a great test of what she teaches
Amazing teacher! I failed Calc 1 with another professor then I switched to Deann Leoni and took her Calc 1 and Calc 2 class. She doesn't lecture much, instead, she does a group activity every class that is super useful! She uses WAMAP for homework which is FREE! So no textbook cost! (No need to pay $130 for WebAssign).
She is the best, you will love Math.
awesome teacher! humble and really cares about your learning. enthusiastic while teaching. usually i'm too shy to ask for help, but in this class i feel comfortable to ask a question if i don't understand something. ive taken several classes at edcc, and i think she's one of the best teachers i've had so far. i recommend her for all math courses
Honestly, she really helped me understand calculus more. This class was structured differently from my previous calc classes (more like a high-school course than a lecture) and that really helped me out. Her grading is very forgiving where if you make a simple mistake but the rest of your work is right she will give you most of the points.
As a current UW-Madison student, I'm writing this with the deepest respect for professor Leoni. I used to think that collages like "world top 30 or 50" are the only schools that have the best studying resources, that definitely includes teachers. However, I was wrong in a big way. Leoni is by far, THE best math teacher I've ever had, take her class
Deann Leoni is a fantastic math teacher. She is clearly very passionate and knowledgeable about math, and it shows in her lectures. She will also gladly help you if you visit her during office hours. However, do not expect a walk in the park for her. You still have to work hard to get a good grade. I'd recommend reading the textbook often.
she is probably the most picky teacher I had yet that was so picky on grading, she make home-works and P4C's easy, but boy! be ready for her quizzes and her tests, I highly suggest to memorize a 200 page equations one by one in order to pass her class!
if you make a mistake on a quiz or exam, she cross the entire answer, even if you gave the answer, you need to explain, this is not a simple math class, you have to be able explain everything verbally, remember, she is old school
Deann Leoni is probably one of the best math instructors I've ever had. In classes, we do group activities instead of the typical lecture slides. If you have any questions, she will gladly help you out. Exams aren't the worst if you study hard. Be sure to do the book HW she assigns, as they are essential for quizzes and for you to understand.
I did not pass my MATH152 in Fall 2019 because the last professor was difficult to understand and didn't fit my learning. Leoni on the other hand, is a complete opposite. Her calm demeanor and kindness makes me want to do Math. She is patient and willing to help you out with the material. I am going to take MATH 153 with her next quarter.
Took online 153 class. Everyday an assignment due, but it isn't that hard. Two exams (which was open note bc it online & no proctored) and final that is proctored on Zoom. Quiz every week (can use hw) and a class prepare (P4C) assignment every morning with hw due two days after. Activity twice a week. Responds fast & helpful. Will get A or A- prob
This is my second class with Deann. This quarter was very different due to the COVID 19 outbreak and she adjusted for those who are out of the country. Calculus can be very hard, but she helps you prepare for quizzes and tests with activities. I hope that I can take MATH272 with Deann in the future! Deann is very inspirational and kind to students.
Not understanding. Does not give extensions. Very harsh grader, the grade you get is not changeable. Definitely do not recommend this teacher. Will affect your GPA
Already a couple of weeks in and I am regretting even looking at her name here. The coursework is too insane and her grading is super meticulous. Do not take her, stay away!!
Deann is so sweet but this class WAS HARD. I'm sure calc 3 is hard with any teacher but Deann makes you work for it. I was spending a good 2+ hours almost every day in this class. 3 question P4Cs every day on top of about 3-4 homeworks a week and a weekly quiz. As long as you're hardworking, you'll be fine. Deann makes it worth it.
I really enjoyed MATH153 with Deann this quarter. I was definitely intimidated at first, but Deann is extremely supportive and it is clear that she wants you to succeed. There is a lot of homework, but all the work she gives out is useful for quizzes and tests. Her grading is also very fair as long as you show your work. Deann is an amazing prof!
Class is well formatted for learning, extremely homework-heavy, and a high level of comprehension is expected. Leoni is very responsive, provides clear instruction, and helpful, prompt feedback. Utterly nit-picky grader. Do the assigned text homework to prep for quizzes and tests.
I'm not a fan of linear - it doesn't come easy to me like most math courses do. Thank god I took this class with Deann or my grad would be terrible. She's very good at imparting knowledge and giving clear explanations. She also will explain things multiple ways if you're confused. Objectively, not a difficult class, just not any easy subject for me
I had Leoni for STEM 100, and she was chill, and she grades fairly. Her class was pretty easy, just a couple of assignments here and there. One bad thing was that attendance is a part of your grade, so if you don't come to class, it affects your grade.
Leoni is very well organized, which is more than you can say for many professors at Edmonds. If you pay attention you will always know what is due when, and you will have plenty of time to do it. Additionally, her teaching style is different but effective, with Prepare for Class assignments to help learn concepts before they are covered in class.
Professor Leoni was a good intro to college classes. Typically there would be a 5-point assignment before class to introduce the topic, then for the class, she would have a 10-20 minute mini-lecture followed by a group assignment. Most of the class consisted of you teaching yourself, but she was good at explaining things further if you needed it.
The structure is well formatted and is extremely useful in learning calculus. There are a lot of homework questions, but most of them are not graded and are purely for understanding the material. If you want to do well in this class, you should do all the non-graded coursework as well. There are also weekly quizzes that arent too hard if you study.
I felt like this course provided me with everything I needed to do well.
extremely heavy course load and tons of quizzes and tests but you do learn.
this course has been so tough for me and she is really sweet but she gives tons of homework and its like so exhausting. i go to her to ask like advice about what should i do but honestly it doesnt matter at this point.
A great math teacher
So far my favorite professor/teacher for math. Explains things very clearly and made a difficult class a lot easier. There is a lot of homework with about half of it being graded. Overall a class I would happily take again and will be looking out for a 152 class that she teaches.
This class was tough to say the least. While the professor is nice, she gives lots of homework. You also have to learn a lot of content yourself since the lectures are quite short. Also, the book homework isn't worth points, but you need to do it to do well on the quizzes? This class was okay, but it is pretty hard to keep up.
very strict
Ms. Dean Leoni makes the class very difficult for no reason. She expects way too much from students. And I do not understand why she has higher than a 3.5 rating from students.
such a difficult teacher!
deann is not a teacher i would recommend if you want a teacher that gives you the benefit of the doubt (not that it's expected) because she is quite LITERALLY the opposite
她不是一个好的数学老师,她会帮助你,但即使她很好,她也会在考试中给你 0 分
Teacher nice sometimes but hard class
way too strict for her ability to teach
I think Mrs. Deann Leoni is a nice friendly teacher but it doesn't matter because she is a very difficult grader and person who is unwilling to negotiate
gives out soo much homework prepare to put 3 hours a day to complete homework assignments and another 10 hours before exams. not just that the tests are difficult but that she always does too much small errors that have nothing to do with conceptual understanding will cost you like putting a negative or forgetting a symbol she does not care
girl does way too much
way TOO much homework!
Extremely strict grader and unwilling to negotiate, even when she makes mistakes in grading. Lectures feel unhelpful because she barely explains concepts, and you're left teaching yourself. Exams are brutal, and even small mistakes cost you heavily. If you care about your GPA, take this class with a different professor if possible.
Avoid if you value fair grading. She takes off excessive points for minor mistakes and refuses to re-evaluate even when errors in grading are pointed out. Her explanations are minimal, and Calc is already tough—having a professor like this makes it a nightmare.
If you want to teach yourself an entire course and still get unfairly penalized, take her class. She barely explains anything in lectures, grades harshly, and does not accept any corrections, even when she's wrong. No curve, no partial credit, and no leniency. This class is pure stress. Take it with someone else if you can!
Absolutely terrible professor. Her grading is beyond strict, and she has no flexibility even when she's the one who makes an error. Doesn't explain concepts well, and when students ask questions, she's either dismissive or vague. If you're considering linear algebra, wait for a different professor unless you want your GPA destroyed.
Easily the worst professor I've had. Grading is absurdly harsh, and she doesn't teach—just writes things down and expects you to figure it out. Doesn't take responsibility for grading mistakes and refuses to listen. Exams are intentionally difficult, and office hours aren't helpful. This class was miserable.
Horrible experience. The grading is so extreme that even small errors cost you significant points. She makes mistakes but refuses to acknowledge them, which is beyond frustrating. Teaching style is ineffective, and you'll end up learning everything from the textbook or YouTube. Your GPA will suffer—take this class with another professor if you can.
Stay away if you value fairness. She barely teaches, then expects perfection on exams. Harsh grading with no room for discussion, even when she's in the wrong. Doesn't curve or give meaningful feedback, and office hours are pointless. Class is already difficult; her class makes it much worse.
Would not recommend. Grading is far too harsh, even for small mistakes. She's unwilling to adjust errors in grading and seems indifferent to students struggling. If you don't already understand calculus you'll be lost because she doesn't explain much. Definitely take a different professor if you can!
This class felt like an uphill battle. She doesn't explain the material well, then expects flawless work. Grading is so strict that even small calculation errors result in huge point deductions. When grading mistakes happen, she won't acknowledge them. Avoid if you care about fairness and learning in a supportive environment.
she is nice but it doesn't even matter because she expects way too much from students like yes she told us the class was going to be hard but the fact that she can and WILL deduct points from correct answers is ridiculous
Toughest grader I've ever had, and not in a good way. Doesn't teach much, makes grading mistakes but refuses to adjust, and has no sympathy for struggling students. The exams are brutal, and there's little opportunity to improve your grade. Wish I had waited for a different professor—my GPA took a serious hit.
One of the worst professors I've had. Expects perfection but doesn't actually teach. Harsh grading with no partial credit, even for small mistakes. When she misgrades, she refuses to reconsider. Exams are unnecessarily difficult, and lectures are just her writing on the board with little explanation. Avoid if you care about your GPA!
Avoid at all costs. She teaches like we're all math majors who already know everything. Her grading is so extreme that one mistake can tank your score. No flexibility, no retakes, and no interest in student success. If you're taking Calc 1, do yourself a favor and find another professor.
Lectures are useless—she just rushes through examples with little explanation. Expects perfection on exams but refuses to acknowledge grading errors. No partial credit, so even if you understand the problem but make a small mistake, you get nearly zero points. GPA killer. Look for another instructor if possible.
Brutally difficult class with no support. She doesn't explain well, expects you to figure it out, then punishes you on exams for tiny mistakes. Grading is unreasonable, and she won't adjust even when she's clearly wrong. Worst Calc 3 professor I've ever had. Save yourself the stress and take someone else.
Worst professor I've had for math. Does not teach, just throws problems on the board and expects you to understand. No study guides, exams are much harder than what's covered in class, and grading is harsh beyond belief. If you make a single mistake, you lose tons of points. She also refuses to acknowledge grading errors.
Her lectures are an endurance test. She speaks in a monotone, rushes through material, and never checks if students are following. Homework problems don't align with what's covered in class, making studying for exams a guessing game. Grading is overly harsh, and there's no extra help available.
Expects students to magically understand advanced concepts without explaining them. If you ask questions, she either brushes them off or makes you feel stupid for asking. The workload is overwhelming, yet there's no support. The exams are nothing like the homework, so good luck preparing. This class made me hate math.
She spends more time pointing out students' mistakes than actually teaching. Rather than guiding us through concepts, she rushes through problems at lightning speed and assumes we get it. Office hours are useless because she seems annoyed when asked for help. If you struggle, she'll just tell you to “review the notes.”
This class is a game of survival. The tests are designed to be trickier than necessary, and she makes no effort to actually teach. She assumes you already know multivariable calculus before stepping in. Even the best students were struggling, and she didn't care. If you want to succeed, you'll have to rely on YouTube and self-study.
Her grading system is absurd. It feels like she's actively looking for ways to take off points. Even if you get the right answer but show your work slightly differently than her method, she'll penalize you. There's no consistency, no fairness, and no willingness to explain her reasoning. It's honestly demoralizing.
This class is just one giant independent study where she hands out tests and disappears.
The lack of engagement makes learning Calc 3 even harder than it already is.
Her grading is so extreme it feels like she enjoys taking points off. Even if you get the right answer, she'll deduct points for tiny formatting details. It's like she's grading an art competition instead of a math class. No partial credit, no leeway, just brutal point deductions for the smallest errors. If you care about your GPA, AVOID!
Every assignment feels like a trap. You can understand the material perfectly and still get a terrible grade because she deducts points for things that don't even matter. Forgot to box your answer? Points gone. Wrote an explanation slightly differently than hers? More points gone. It's exhausting and completely unfair.
I've never had a professor who punishes minor mistakes this badIt's as if she's grading with the intention of making students fail. The grading policy is actually terrible
She grades like a robot programmed to find flaws. Even when you follow the process correctly, if your final answer isn't in the exact form she expects, you lose massive points. No explanations, no appeals, just an unreasonable standard that no one can meet. If you like doing perfect work and still failing, take this class.
The grading is so strict it feels personal. not even about accuracy she finds ways to take off points even when you demonstrate full understanding. I've taken hard math classes before, but nothing like this. The worst part? She refuses to justify her deductions. Just “that's how it is.” Completely unfair.
She treats grading like a punishment, not an evaluation of learning. Even minor missteps are met with devastating score reductions. No chance to clarify, no explanations for deductions, just a slash through your work and a horrible grade. I've never worked so hard in a class only to be graded so unfairly.
Feels like she's actively trying to lower everyone's grades. Even students who are great at math struggle to get decent scores because of how ridiculous her grading is. No curves, no flexibility, no mercy. Even professors in harder subjects aren't this harsh. I genuinely don't understand how she's allowed to keep teaching.
She claims to be “preparing us for higher expectations No room for human error, no adjustments even if the entire class does poorly. It's like she wants us to fail. I've never felt this hopeless in a math class before. Avoid her if you can.
I thought Calculus 3 would be tough, but she makes it unbearable. You can master the concepts and still get a bad grade because of how absurdly strict she is. She nitpicks everything, refuses to give partial credit, and never explains her grading decisions. No other professor I've had has been this unreasonable.
If you enjoy watching your GPA get obliterated over tiny mistakes, take her class! She doesn't care if you understand the material and she only cares about marking every tiny imperfection. Even a misplaced negative sign will tank your grade. The way she grades isn't about learning but rather punishment.
he was friendly during the first week, but that quickly disappeared once we got into the material. Her grading is so harsh that even tiny mistakes result in massive deductions. No partial credit, no flexibility, and no sympathy. The exams are way harder than the homework, and she refuses to acknowledge any grading mistakes.
Sure, she's organized, but that doesn't help when her grading is absolutely ruthless. She takes off points for the smallest details and refuses to even consider grading adjustments, even when she makes mistakes. The tests are so much harder than anything we practice, and she offers no real support. Do not take if you value your GPA.
She explains things well in the first five minutes of class, but after that, it's a disaster. Her grading is unreasonably strict, and she refuses to give partial credit even when the logic is correct. Expect to lose massive points over tiny formatting or sign errors. It feels like she actively wants students to fail.
Shhe responds to emails quickly, which would be nice if her grading wasn't absolutely brutal. Even when she misgrades something, she won't correct it. No matter how much effort you put in, she'll find a way to take points off. Exams are intentionally tricky, and there's no curve. Just take Calc 3 with someone else.
At least she posts assignments on time, but her grading is unrealistically harsh. She nitpicks every little thing, deducts points without reason, and makes the exams way harder than they need to be. If she makes a grading mistake, she won't change it. If you don't need this class with her, don't take it. It's just not worth it.
She seems like a nice person, but her grading is so unfair it doesn't even matter. She expects perfection and gives no partial credit, even when the mistake is minor. If you lose a single point, expect it to be 5 instead. The tests are unnecessarily difficult, and she refuses to acknowledge her own errors. Absolutely terrible experience.
She seemed supportive at first, but once the tests started, that changed. She grades like she's looking for excuses to take points off, no matter how well you understand the material. Even a minor misstep means losing nearly all points. I've never had a professor be this unforgiving. If you want to actually succeed, find another instructor.
I'll give her credit for being punctual, but that's about it. Her grading system is beyond unreasonable. If you get the right answer but don't format it exactly how she wants, expect to lose major points. She refuses to listen to student concerns and acts like any feedback is a personal attack. This class was miserable.
one small mistake and you lose nearly all your points. No partial credit, no retakes, and she refuses to acknowledge grading mistakes. Exams are way harder than homework, so expect to struggle even if you study. Take this class with someone else.
She's very punctual, but that's about the only positive thing I can say. Her grading is absolutely brutal—if you make even a minor mistake, expect to lose a huge amount of points. No flexibility, no curves, and she won't reconsider anything. The tests are way harder than what she teaches. calc 1 is terrible with her i cant even
She explains concepts well occasionally, but that doesn't help refuses to consider any regrades, even when she clearly misgrades something.
She's polite, but that doesn't change the fact that her grading is absolutely awful. You can have the right answer, but if your steps don't match her expectations exactly, she'll still take points off. No room for small mistakes, no partial credit, and no chance for extra help. This is the worst math professor I've ever had.
She was approachable at the start, but that's where the positives end. She is by far the harshest grader I've ever encountered.
her tests are significantly harder than anything we practice. Avoid if possible.
She has a nice demeanor, but her grading
The exams are much harder than what's taught in class, and she doesn't care if students are struggling
Oh my god her exam was so much harder than the exam prep she gave us an exam prep and it had barely any resemblance to the actual exam
she's not helpful when it comes to grades. make one minor slip-up, your grade tanks
Even if you study hard, your grade will not reflect your effort.
评分很难 我觉得这门课很难
She is honestly so out of touch. cares more about pointless rules gets mad if you come in late, acting like it's some huge disruption when literally NO ONE in class cares. It's a lecture, not a test. Same with one-sided notes. it doesn't even matter when we're already teaching ourselves everything anyway
She says the class is difficult which is true not just because of the concepts but because of HER. Ms. Deann here refuses to give out full points/marks it's like she hates giving out 100s
Professor Leoni is the definition of “100 is perfect and no one is perfect” also attendance is basically mandatory
Wish I never took this class
Took her fall quarter and leoni isn't the type of person who wants her students to succeed will preface the class by saying it's a difficult class but it's her that makes it difficult overcomplicating concepts to waste time and lecture
One of the best math professors I've ever had, she's really good at explaining concepts. She's a tough grader but it never feels like she's grading like this just because she can, rather that she wants you to learn and do well. Learnt so much in this class.
she is nice, but the class is very difficult (unnecessarily)
Her exam is harder than her lecture and homework.
Miss Leoni is nice but I dislike her because she rarely gives full marks on quizzes. She cares so much about conceptual understanding when she can't teach, so it's to your disadvantage when you're doing a test and can't memorize or write down an entire proof, every single part numbered fully annotated. Expect to get points off for trivial mistakes
studied the exam review for a few hours just for most of it to not show up on the actual exam. a lot of us complained about this very issue and jesus she grades harshly no wiggle room whatsoever
even with the smartest people in the class she will mark points off and allow you to negotiate just to stay firm on her decision when she's an unreasonably strict grader. students will spend hours studying just to be torn apart by her grading. even though she is nice in class, it is truly the worst. recommend taking with professor eldridge instead
Don't take this class. Worst teacher I've ever had in my 15 years of schooling
Withdrew from this class. Wait until another professor teaches the class. Deann is very very very very very nit picky about grading to an unreasonable degree. She WILL act like a sweet friendly teacher when you start the class, but she is ruthless when it comes to grading and does not want the best for her students.
Very difficult teacher both literally and metaphorically.
The teacher expects absolute perfection even though her grading criteria isn't clear. She's stupidly strict and expects you to have textbook level explanations and proofs otherwise expect to get less than half credit for a problem even if you dif everything correctly
You will get a much higher grade if you take the class with a different professor
Make sure to master every single concept if you want at least half credit. This class is a joke.
I think class is difficult. Miss Leoni is hard to understand as international student and I wouldn't take again
Returning to school in Fall 2024, I noticed a significant shift in student attitudes towards "an easy A" instead of actually learning. Furthermore, there seems to be a noticeable culture among students of mediocrity and irresponsibility that wasn't anywhere near as bad ~7 years ago. Leoni is a great prof. Don't give attention to the review bomb.
Leoni's course design left no room for honest errors or genuine confusion. The professor seemed more interested in penalizing students than helping them grasp difficult concepts. That unforgiving environment made the class feel stressful rather than academically challenging. earning a good grade was more about guessing what Leoni wanted
Overly harsh grading is easily my biggest gripe. Even when I knew the material and felt confident about my answers, Leoni would still deduct points. I'd compare notes, textbook references only to find the feedback didn't justify the loss of marks. Sometimes, it felt like the professor was actively looking for any reason to mark you down.
dont even know what to say or where to start. shes the type of teacher to hold grudges, will make it so that all odds are against you, find excuses to take off points. puts in more effort and justification in deducting pts than teaching. no amount of my effort seems to pay off its exhausting. shes insufferable will NOT hesitate to give bad grades
great prof, don't pay attention to the review bombing
Save yourself. Take the class if you want to put in 3+ hours of studying a day just to get a 70 on the quizzes at most. Ms. Leoni does not believe in giving 100s and that speaks volumes
Knowledgeable and approachable. Tough subject but she explains it well. You will work on problems in class and use the opensource online book.
She is a very difficult teacher and you will put in massive amounts of effort to satisfy her. Quizzes and exams aren't difficult, but she sure is, and that's what you should worry most about
She has very high expecsays this during the beginning of the quarter
Ignore the review bombing (if still up), she is an amazing professor. If you finish your homework on time and do the textbook hw on top of that, you can definitely get a good grade. Quizzes are based on the textbook hw, and tests are fair. She also isn't a tough grader in my opinion and I didn't have to study hard to get a 4.0.
Most low ratings are fake. She teaches very well, and she is very helpful. She makes sure you understand the lessons through prepare for class assignments. She gets her quiz questions from the homework. Tests are not too difficult as long as you study. Definitely one of the best. I would take more classes with her if I had the choice.
My rule of thumb is if you complete all of the homework and activities you should get at least a 75 in the class, but Ms. Leoni's class has been an exception. Ms. Leoni's class has been a major headache and she is a very difficult person doesn't let you get away with a minor mistake (will be punished with points taken off).
Was easily the most frustrating experience I've ever had. She holds her class to an almost impossible standard, making exams and assignments needlessly complicated. The harsh grading further adds insult to injury. she's more focused on marking every tiny mistake than on actually teaching the material
Such a pain taking the class with a teacher who will make your life harder than it needs to be.
I went to almost every single office hour, and Ms. Leoni is still so harsh on with grading. Even when I get an answer correct (checked with answer key) with a sufficient amount of explanation, she still finds a way to take off points, and it's just so tiring because I spend so much time and effort studying the material for it to not pay off.
Nice, but too strict on tests, quizzes, and exams
Activity grades very little feedback from the teacher and lack of explanation for points off
She warns you that many people retake this course but it makes sense as she is one of the people teaching it. If you ever reach out to her with questions for the online homework, just be warned that she will not listen. She expects to be right 100% of the time and will not actually look at your concerns, instead make assumptions and be upset at you
Deann will take off unnecessary points for her own inability to understand your work despite the answer being right.
says she encourages questions but when it comes to any criticisms or questions regarding markings on paper she doesn't take it lightly. during office hours, she is often confused when confronted with problems and will be hypocritical about it. also a very narrow-minded grader and will NOT be flexible even if you talk to her personally after class
she feigns passion encouraging questions and participation, but is unforgiving when a student actually expresses concerns with specific problems and criticisms. she is one of those teachers that will take off points to save time, instead of asking for clarification or just simply spending an extra minute to examine a student's work
Would not take again
She gave video assignments before the lecture, so coming to the lecture was not really necessary. She's also accessible outside class and willing to help if we have questions. Her grading system is not bad, as she usually gives partial credit for wrong answers.
Deann is amazing! She genuinely cares about students and wants to see them succeed. Her office hours are accessible and she's more than happy to walk you through problems. She even hosted office hours the weekend before the final. However, she does assign quite a bit of homework. Overall, she's the best math teacher I've had and I'd take her again!
(3) The quality of her teaching style is not purely about the material of that specific "class"---She is teaching you a routine, a habit, a behavior, an attitude... you know what im getting right? This is pure gold if you know what you here for.
(2)Calculus 123 is the foundation of everything you've about to learn if your major is anything near STEM. Period. So its best that you learn this in a hard way, with the best professor-Leoni.This is what I want to tell to any lovely new "classmates" thats about to go on the journey---
(1)Almost 30 now, wow times flies In this middle of night, got an email-professor Leoni about her rating, and its a shock. But its also interesting that I know for a fact, my All-time-fav math "mentor"(even if she prob wouldn't remember me after all those years now lol),Ms.Leoni doesn't care, about, your, comments:) You will make your own choice.
Awful teacher! Just talked repeatedly about how people take this class more than once and would speed through so many different topics, and then expect people to understand. As well as, when asked in class questions, never answers them, except talks about something entirely different.
Professor Deann is extremely nitpicky and inflexible. Even with correct answers and clear work shown, she deducts points for minor, almost arbitrary reasons. When questioned respectfully, she refuses to reconsider. Not supportive or student-centered—would not recommend.
The class itself or I should day subject I sent hard me and many others feel like Calc 3/Calc 4 was harder, but Deann is the difficult person. She is nice sure but when it comes to grading she's unforgiving and wrongfully strict
Don't look at the review bombs, most people just salty tbh. Really great professor, very accessible (almost every single day, also in study room). Calculus 1 can be challenging, but leoni made it very manageable. As long as you pay attention, and have a good understanding of algebra, calculus 1 is a breeze, and leoni makes it very doable solid 9/10
She is an awesome person who ready to help you whatever you need, just ask her and she gonna answer you.. Before I go to this class, I have read many bad rate about her and I was worried, but when I come to her class, it's fun, normal and easy. All the quizzes and exams, she usually takes it from online homework and a bit book homework.
Tests don't accurately resemble the homework, and professor deann leoni isn't very lenient when it comes to grading. she has a very strict guideline for what qualifies as a correct answer when even if you get the correct answer she has additional requirements for full credit which I believe is very unreasonable
