Very good teacher...passionate about history. Tests are kinda difficult if you don't like writing essays
Dr.Beachley is super nice and interesting. Sometimes a little long-winded but still awsome. Great for women's studies too :)
I didn't like her class, but it seemed like others would. Not compatible with my learning style, but a good teacher nonetheless.
Everything involved written work. Not exactly my style, but she was a fairly good professor nonetheless. I wouldn't suggest her if you had a full schedule, like I did.
She loves her job and does it well. She has so much information she could talk forever alot of written work but still a good class
Taking online - test are very specific and difficult. An essay a week with about 200 pages of reading a week. She is pretty good about answering questions quickly and is fairly organized.
Definitely a challenging professor. She clearly knows her field. She is one of the few professors that I actually felt challenged by and enjoyed. Her tests are all essay, but this is college after all. Study, take good notes, and you'll do fine.

shes a mojor **** that will fail you if you differ in opions ... and she also "grades" people on how well she thinks they should do ... not off how well they can do
DR.Beachley is a great teacher. The test were all essay questions, but she also gave the answers in her study guides. As long as you do the study guid you'll definatly do great in her class. She also loves class involvement. The more you talk and ask questions the more class points you get.
She is really into her work. BUT she is alittle on the weird side. She can just stare at you and you just get creeped out. Her class is mostly boring. She stands and lectures and gives handouts all the time. I thought her class was easy, but lil did I know.
Definitely a teacher that you should reconsider taking. I took her online class; read all my material, did the work...but averaged a C...DO NOT TAKE HER! She is never satisfied! Whatever effort you put into your work will not matter, it all depends on her POV (point of view).
She is Very Challenging and gives out to many handouts, hard grader, tooo much homework, 2 essays, essay tests (w/study guides) and you get to choose what question you want on the final! But she is very detail oriented so becareful. She is samrt and expects you to do the same.
tough teacher, tough class. in a 4 week summer section, we have a essay due every week, 8 quizzes(super hard)and 2 DB posting. You have to really read all the material which is like more than 200 pages per week. If you have plenty of time and wanna challenge yourself, take her.
She is the worst teacher that I have ever had. Her online class is rediclus. She has you do these post and if you do not say that you falt out agree with a person and you imply it than you will get a bad grade. Her quizzes you can only take once and they have nothing to do with the disscussion.

tests on obscure material. has a negative attitude and really hate my work and writings. Even when it was her guidelines I was following. Do not take beachley unless you have 30 to 40 hours to devote to her whims.
she doesn't give your deserved grade, she is not reasonable , material was boring, too long, and detailed. I was overwhelmed with the volume of the work. she gave me poor grades for no reason.
Excellent teacher. I think she goes the extra mile to help her students. She offers to read papers before you hand them in even during her vacations. Essay tests are relatively easy if you are willing to memorize a few things about the essay test topics she hands out a week prior to the test. Besides, she brings in candy for the class on test days.
Get ready, because even if you do all the work, you will probably still get a C in the class. Your essays need to be based on her opinion, or you are wrong. A 101 class at CCSN should not be so hard. Class based more on critical thinking (hers) rather than basic history fact. Stay away from her!!! Don't say I did not warn you.
Took her online class for a 4wk summer session. Lots of reading (4 chaps each week), 16 quizzes, 3 essays- all expected of a 4wk accelerated course. She is not clear on her guidelines, hard to please, other students comments are correct. I think I deserved higher than a B.
Interesting, that most the students who bagged on her here can hardly write complete sentences. IF you work hard and do the minimum, of course you might egg out a C; and C means average. Perhaps she sets the bar higher so you might - LEARN TO THINK?
If you like writing essays this is the professor for you. Otherwise, she will RUIN YOUR LIFE. Exams are toughly graded multi-page essays written in class. There are several 3-page essay writing assignments throughout the semester. Homewwork is in paragraph format. Unless you are a fluid and prolific writer, avoid this class at all costs!
At first I didn't think I'd like her but mid-semester she's one of my favorite teachers. She is enthusiastic about the subject and prepares you very well for tests. Lots of homework from the Hollitz text but nothing from the big textbook. If you're not an essay writer than you may have a hard time...lots of writing & she's a stickler for grammer.

While many students will berate this professor and are a bit over the top in how harsh she might be, I do agree with that her grading curve is quite unfair. All essays seem to have a top grade of C. She loves essays! If you are not a doctoral level writer, find another instructor. If you are looking to improve your skills, this is your class.
Beachley is flat out the hardest professor I've ever encountered. Since returning to college two years ago, I've gotten straight A's in all classes. And I get a "C" in a History 101 class? the best grade I got on a paper or a discussion posting was a 77%. I'm no english major but come one. STAY AWAY !!!!!!
Hardest professor ever. Grades extremely unfairly. Constantly gave me half credit with no explanation as to what had been done wrong. Stay away from this professor.
Professor Beachley gets hit pretty hard in this forum. I think most of the comments are unfair. I'm an adult going back to get (eventually) a 4 year degree that I didn't have the income to pursue when I was younger. Far too many CCSN clases are watered down and rather stupid or "cake". Prof. Beachley prepares you for the REAL world.
The assignments aren't too bad but the tests are horrible
She ia hippy, and wears tons of jewlery, but she is not easygoing and her lectures are completely monotonous. She consistently gives low grades on homework with no explanation why.She does not allow first dranfts and will not give you an opportunity to earn extra credit.she is extremely unfair in her grading practices.Pass on her class!!!!!!!!
If you love history, this is the class you want. most people look for easy grades and that's not always a good thing. she does grade hard but its college folks, not high school. if you actually try and put forth effort you'll pass. essays are easy if you keep up on the lectures. awesome professor!
This Professor deffinately gets you ready for the real world. If you like History this is the class to take. She is very informative on all aspects of History. Her asignments are ok if you attend class, follow the syllabus and read the books. her tests are hard. She is very particular of how you answer essay questions. If you are concerned with you
The teacher failed the whole class, I got a d and that horrible. Teacher didnt even tell us when the evaluation were. Would not recommend teacher.
I do not recommend her period.:@Especially if you have more than one class. She asks for alot for an accelerated history class with alot of material. You have to go over the material and read it in one day and take her quizzes for each day. Other wise you will not have time to go over everything.
NEVER AGAIN...
a very smart woman, but has too much to say, class always started 5 min early and ended 5 min late not good when your next class is across campus. Also, all homework and tests are essay format, and shes very subjective to what she wants to hear in your paper
Very hard, quiz questions are veg, and something you wouldn't remember reading. Very picky in grading essays, doesn't give all info. till due date. Don't take
Do not take her class!! She seems to have a joy in grading low. Very structured and doesn't grade according to her own instructions. Must have been picked on as a kid.
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! She seems to enjoy to fail people. Her directions are not clear and her questions are usually judgement based. If you don't see it her way, then shame on you.
She is very hard! Enjoys failing her students! I would not recommend her to my enemy!
She is a very hard teacher to figure out what she is expecting you to answer on her Discusion Questions and Essays. Her Quizes are very hard and on information you would miss in reading 200 pages a week. Not a Hist and Enlgish person dont take. She is a very strick and will not give you a good grade no matter how much time you spend in her class.
VERY HARD GRADER, ESPECIALLY FOR A 101 CLASS. I TOOK THE ONLINE CLASS, EXTREMELY DIFFICULT.
Dear God this woman is awful!!!! She makes my government teacher from high school look like a saint-and he was not one believe me. From now on, I am not randomly picking a teacher, I am doing my homework first. Seems like no matter how hard I try, I can not get a good grade to save my life. Avoid this teacher like the plauge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are majoring in History then this class is for you. But if you're not, stay way from her at all costs. I took her online 8-week accelerated class and it was hell. She's anal and expects too much just for a 101 class. Not enough time to read chapters and such; I was able to get by with a ton of help from my friends who took AP U.S. History.
If you are majoring in History then this class is for you. But if you're not, stay way from her at all costs. I took her online class and it was hell. She expects too much just for a 101 class; you need to either already know a ton about history or have good book-skimming skills to survive. I got by with help from friends who took AP U.S. History.
Stay away from her class if your not taking history for your major. Very detailed professor and very hard. Very hard grader as well. Its a freshmen class and only 3 credits and still you have to put half of your life into this class. If your just taking the history class for requirement don't take this professor. :(
Wish I read her reviews here before I took her class because it would have saved me 200! I dropped it because there is no pleasing this woman. Her expectations are VERY high. Expect to spend hours reading and taking notes on what she says MAY be in the quizzes, and then be tested on something completely different. She is also very condescending!
stay away from this teacher. nothing can ever please her. her comments are sometimes hurtful and rude. she needs to ease up on her student. we are here to learn NOT to be judge so harshly.
Taking as an online class and instructor is over the edge in her expectations with quizzes, discussion questions, and essays. No pleasing her is right! Avoid her class unless you have no choice! She could use some instructional strategy classes!!! Wish I knew better...hind site 20/20.
Avoid this instructor! She lacks effective instructional strategies. Her expectations are unreasonable and like other comments she is IMPOSSIBLE to please. Meeting her demands is a moving target!! Her feedback is useless because it doesn't apply to the future and she gives no opportunity for improvement.
avoid this useless professor. nothing will ever satisfy her. NOTHING!!!! she always will find a way to make your life even harder. because of this class i think i am starting to hate history. she will grade you so harshly. she will depressed you!
These are not the true ratings for this teacher. For some reason these over inflated and exaggerated. If you want to see the true ratings for this evil, condescending, degrading person then go the the heading of "Beachley" and be prepared for a rude awakening. SAVE YOUR MONEY, DO NOT TAKE THIS WOMAN'S CLASS!!!!!!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS WOMAN'S CLASS!!! She has no idea on how to teach. This is an entry level class for history, yet she expects you to work like it was for your masters. You will NOT get a grade higher than C, because she grades on what she thinks you should get, and not on what you have earned. So if you are looking for punishment, she is your girl.
i am complaining to the dean's and history department. this is BS!!! she needs re-evaluated, just read all her comments. hate her
DONT DO IT. Run in a different direction. If you like history and you want to actually learn something, then look at a different teacher, because this woman will teach you nothing, but will fill you with anger. DEAN, FIRE THIS WOMAN
RUN!!! Withdrawal!! I want to learn History not get points deducted because I added an extra "SENTENCE".......
I read some comments on Dr. Beachley's style of teaching that I consider unjustified and overly emotional. Her class does require its fair share of effort, but her demands are not exceedingly high and, certainly, not ambiguous. She provides detailed instructions for each assignment Answer clearly, logically, and to the point, and you will succeed.
Okay I heard from a classmate in my ENG221 class that Dr. Beachley FAILS EVERYONE!!!! I asked her in a discussion if she was a good teacher and I used two comments from here. Hopefully she replies and I get to retake my quizzes (which have nothing to do with the discussions)!!!!
Run!!!!!!!!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
This class was more work than any other class I have ever taken with the exception of A&P. Online format=4 discussion posts per week, 3 group projects, 5 papers and 9 additional posts. I am an A student who will earned a B. Long wait for grades and without them you make same mistakes. Unclear instructions for one of the papers as well.
i would never ever take this teacher again. she is only concerned about her opinions, even when you point out the book says something different. id retake bio 223 5 times before I take a "Doctor" Beachley class again. maybe she is going through menopause?
This course opened my eyes to so much about our history! Dr. Beachley was helpful to me when I had problems, took the time to work with me, and put together a terrific class. Maybe if my fellow students were willing to work and showed up when they were supposed to, they would have done better and wouldn't blame her for their grades.
Maybe the person who posted below ought to reveal their grade, whether they attended, did they turn in their work and turn it in when they were supposed to? Beachley is tough, but she's fair. She knows a lot and expects a lot. If you can't do three essay exams, some homework and read two books in the semester, you shouldn't be in college.
RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
I do NOT recommend you take her class in the summer. The workload is triple of any online summer class I took. Well over half the class dropped; and I am sure of the remaining, 1/4 failed. She good but rough. For fall/spring and as an in-class professor, she is great...but not online summer! Also, it is 3/4 history and 1/4 english; "Hinglish".
This teacher is very strict with the english and essays. She is a nightmare in my book. Do not take her summer class as it is difficult and she is tough with grades. I would never take this professor again.
I am not one gripe, complain, or quit (which 1/2 of my class did do...quit). Although, I wish I did drop that class. She is BAD! Points deducted for not having the EXACT amount of sentences?! It is "Hinglish" (History and Englih). She was very late on grading papers and you could not see what you missed on quizzes...HOW DO YOU LEARN THEN?!
This class requires a lot of work. She treats it more like an English class where you have to have perfection with your grammar. Too much work and she takes forever to get it back to you to know how to improve your next assignment. Very specific about length requirement which gets annoying. I know this is college but I felt this class was too much.
This class was a lot of work but Dr. Beachley was very responsive and seemed to grade fairly. I don't know why all the negative feedback, she was pretty good and I learned a lot from this class.
I believe that I am taking ENG not hist. Taking her class is killing yourself.
STAY AWAY from this teacher. Extremely tedious and petty about grading. Grades for grammar FAR more than actual answers and content. Expect to be scrutinized for every last detail and penalized massively for anything she sees.
If History is your major then you definitely want to take this class. All of the course work requires that you submerse yourself in the book/information she provides. 16 quizzes, 3 Essays, 2 assignments, 4 discussion posts, 8 responses to other students discussion posts. There is a lot of work so make time to study if not avoid this class.
Professor Beechley was a great professor and extremely knowledgeable. The only thing I wish she would have been was pay more emphasis to the military and political aspects, but that is my personal intersts.
The worst I have had so far. Very particular about essay and proper grammer - one missed comma and your grade drops one level. She does not respond in a timely manner. In regards to the discussion posts, if you do respond and she does not like what you have written your grade will be lowered, even if you have followed the directions exactly!
In an online course I had to respond to other students' posts. Some them were so non sequitur that it was clear that people who wrote them had never opened the book. I don't see how they could ever earn a passing grade. Moreover, as it was already said: funny that those that denounce Dr.Beachley here 48can't even construct a proper sentence.
If you have no life and have 5 hours to dedicate to 1 post, this is the class for you! Her work load and reading load is HEAVY!! You have to read every full chapter no acceptions, then read "lecture notes" then do 5 worksheets before a post. All posts are 80 points each. It took me 3 hours to figure out the syllabus. DROPPED!!
I am a very determined student and take an enormous amount of effort in all of my work. What do I get? C-
The homework assignments and essays are graded pretty hard. The class is also pretty boring and you'll want to fall asleep even if you're paying attention.
Very rude, did not like her what so ever. Shes a very hard grader, marks down a lot for grammer or common errors
Don't take her. She grades horribly on essays.
Horrible instructor, she does not seem to care about the overall historical content of papers. She is not very clear on instructions. Beachley grades very strongly on grammer and not on infomation from history. And when she comments on graded paper, her handwriting is GOD awful.
Worst history teacher ever. She grades more on grammar than actual information, even when she wants citations, you write it down correctly but you still get points off. And when she comments on your graded papers, you can't really see the comments because her handwriting is really bad.
I did my classes a bit backwards, so I am one semester away from earning my Associates when I signed up for her class as a requirement. I am in Phi Theta Kappa and struggled to get by with a B. I asked for help with no valid response, she grades more on grammar and use of commas than actual history knowledge. Worse professor, STAY AWAY!
THIS PROFESSOR IS HORRIBLE. I am getting A's on essay's in english but D's for essays in her class. Mostly grammar issues marked off. Takes off entirely too much points for grammar mistakes. Isn't helpful. Very Strict. Wish I wouldn't have even ever taking the class. Only one essay per book. Three essays in class. Doesn't help with anything
Worst teacher ever. I wish I would have read her reviews before signing up for her class. All the other reviews are accurate descriptions of her and her class. I'm so disappointed.
I took the course expecting to work hard. I worked hard and got the grade I deserved. Funny thing--everybody who complains about their grammar being corrected made grammatical mistakes in their comments. Maybe if they knew what they were talking about and did the work, they would have done better.
26 assignments are required in this 28 day WEB class. What is complete and utter ridiculousness is the amount of work this woman expects you to put in for a C average. Her responses are unhelpful. Her hang ups on quotation usage, sentence minimums, & grammar are absurd in HIST 101. To top it off, all instructions are 3+ pages of grammatical errors.
Just read the Of the People chapters thoroughly to pass the quizzes. Ignore the lectures. You aren't quizzed on them. Only read the Nash chapter that obtains to what you are writing. Follow her rules exactly. If you don't know just ask her. She was always happy to help me. Skip all the extra reading except the chapter quizzes.
get ready to read! This instructor makes it hard especially if history is not your subject !
The feedback on essay's was minimal. I was not able to understand fully why I received my grade. Essays weigh more on the grammar side, as opposed to the history content. Would not take her again, I wish I would have so that I could have enjoyed the class.
Multiple papers, discussionsresponses, 50-60 page chapterweek, plus lecture- 16 tests in 16weeks, assignments due on Thanksgiving weekend, feedback is condescending. Tests are based on very specific sentences in the chapter so unless you can memorize the chapter, you won't pass the test. EXTREMELY hard grader! AVOID
This woman has made me STRESSED for months on how UNFAIR she is in grading. Doesn't matter about history content, she only cares about grammar! Deducts more than 10% for it, regardless if you've stayed up all night writing an informative HISTORY essay. No feedback about HISTORY to improve, only grammar! Deducts 5 pts for sentence length! HORRIBLE!
Her feedback on her weekly writings are more like she's trying to select material to write her own history book. You can write the best paper , have it checked by a writing professor and she'll find something wrong with it. Unless your looking to become a professor of history yourself, she needs to go!! Has 1 person obtain ed an A??????
16 quizzes, 4 discussions and 4 papers. 2 Text books. You must read the whole textbook and other extra assignments. You can spend the whole day writing a good discussion and this teacher will mark points off anyway without explaining why. She will find something wrong with your paper no matter what! and assign a low grade. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
This is a difficult class, but my favorite. Make sure you read the material, and follow directions to the letter. Dr. Beachley is a difficult grader. She's also always willing to help and responds quickly to emails. This class had 3 books, but normal books, not textbooks. (all 3 about $20) One criticism I have is she takes forever to enter grades.
Assignment instructions confusing and she'll always find something wrong with what you turn in no matter how careful you are. She takes most points off for grammar and contradicts the textbook when giving feedback. 10 plus hours of reading a day to stay ahead for the 4 week course. Learned SO much from the textbooks, nothing from the professor.
In her online now; Prepared to work hard for a 4 wk online class; 3 essays, 2 discussion posts 23-25 sentences each w/ 10-12 sentence comments on other students; 3 "worksheets" (essays pretty much) 23-25sentences; DOES NOT give feedback when asked; answers to quizzes blocked; HARDEST GRADER IVE EVER HAD & on nonsense (not even history)!
I've never taken a class with such a nit-picky grader. I've gotten 15-25 points taken off of every single essay and discussion post, why? Because I do crazy things like use contractions and the second person. Her feedback is never on the actual substance of what you turned in. DO NOT take a class with her if you're worried about your GPA
Grades students as if they had a PhD
Expect to read. Quizzes, essays and 2 page paper due weekly. Tough grader
Never again. Taken accelerated courses before but this one was the worst.
This is a level 100 class and the instructor graded as if it was a much higher level class. There was more emphasis on grammar and word count than on the subject of History. She was very slow to grade our assignments, the next assignment was due before the first was graded. I have a 3.6 GPA and I have struggled to maintain a C. NEVER AGAIN!
I can't believe some of the comments. First, Dr. Beachley does a great job of giving you history--what happened and how to think about it. If you don't pick up on it, maybe it's YOUR problem. Don't like getting points deducted? Try following directions like adults are supposed to be able to do. Think she gives too much work? Welcome to college.
Never in my college life have I been insulted ! I never missed any assignments, always did what her instructions said and she still managed to grade me very low. Im disappointed. She grades extremely tough and requires a lot of reading & writing. Her comments are tough to even read. She literally made me want to rip my hair off my scalp. BEWARE.
She is a very VERY tough grader. If you take her class make sure that you follow every. single. instruction. I thought that I had followed every single instruction but apparently not because I got a bad grade on everything I did. I usually get good grades. This is the first C I have ever gotten. I would not recommend this professor.
If you're looking for a instructor that requires you use your own brain (what a concept), write coherently (a college student should be able to do that), and follow instructions to complete assignments (sounds like a life skill to me), then this instructor is for you! Dr. Beachley has high standards and grades are earned, just the way it should be!
Beachley is a very difficult professor! She expects too much out of her students and her grading criteria is insane. This felt more like and English class with the way she grades. Please choose someone else. The topic was interesting but Beachley really makes you regret choosing the class. There are much better history professors out there. Avoid!
This is HIST 101. Imagine students coming right out of high school taking this class. This was taught like an upper division course with upper division expectations. You're teaching at the wrong institution.
I took a 4 week summer class and HATED it. Please take ANY other teacher. Had to purchase 2 books for the class which I needed the first week; it became an issue getting the book. one big paper is due within 1 week. 3 big papers and her discussions.. bookwork.... the worst thing I have ever done. Discussions limited and deducted for little reason.
If you are looking for your sign on whether to take this class or not, this is your sign, DO NOT DO IT. She does not care about content, she limits your creativity, and finds whatever she can wrong with your assignments. She is one of those "No one gets an A in my class" type teachers. Pride yourself on teaching students, NOT on failing them.
Her class is an easy A but get ready for a discussion post every week and then a 5 page essay every month. I can honestly say I did not learn anything in this class, most of the articles she makes you read are repetitive and she grades super harshly on EXACT word or sentence count. Super boring class.
took this online because my history credit had expired from my AP days. If I didnt have that knowledge base of American history this class would be overwhelming. If shes going to give this insane amount of reading for her class she could least post a lecture once a week to explain. Do NOT take her class. Just wait a semester for another teacher.
She is without a doubt the most unhelpful professor I have ever had. As others have said, she treats it as though it's an English course. She will dock you over pedantic details sometimes, and otherwise outright refuses to tell you why you've been docked other times. Probably the worst professor I have ever had.
Considering she spends a lot of her time writing her own reviews on here, I think that should tell you enough about whether or not to take her course
If you have to take this class, make sure you are a speed reader, understand old English, and an expert essay writer. It felt like she was more focused on the book she is writing than instructing on History. If a teacher does not care, I am led to believe that I do not care about the subject matter as well.
She is horrific. She grades harshly. She goes nuts over word count. Youd think she was an English professor and good luck if you have a difference of opinion. Im a history major and her class was still a snooze. Pompous and boring ideas she has. Avoid her if possible unless you want to spend your time writing 5 page essays every week.
She is a very tough grader! You have to try really really hard to get a perfect score. Lots of readings every week, lots of papers, she really makes you work for it. But I really liked her. She always wrote me back with really good feedback and I think she makes you better by grading so tough because every week I would try harder and harder.
Do not choose this professor. If you LOVE reading, go ahead. The quizzes arent based off of the homework, theyre based off of a book you have to buy. Homework isnt based off the book. Tough grader. Marks you by every little mistake. Seems more of an English teacher, not history. Avoid. Canvas is set up confusing. Not organized very well.
She is quite difficult to take this class. The only reason is that if you can handle such a workload, by all means give it a try. But I warn you, for me it was not a great experience.
I laugh at the people complaining about how tough she is. It's college. It isn't vacation. She knows her stuff and expects you to learn it, too.
The amount of reading is designed to not soak in if you're not great with reading comprehension. Her focus is primarily on composition, and seems like less on history. I did well, but I think I was the exception, not the rule. She will tell you an answer is wrong on a quiz, but not the right answer. Seems more focused on pointing out failure.
It's week two and Prof. Beachley has made it that much easier for me to dislike history class. The workload is overwhelming and she wants you to read until your eyes bleed. Wishing that I would have read more of these reviews before I enrolled. Crossing my fingers that I won't fail, but I already know that I would never take this course again.
This professor is unhelpful and uninterested in her classes The instructor does not provide feedback promptly on assignments I went several weeks after submitting assignments before any grades were posted or feedback was given Save your money time and sanity, and DO NOT take this course with this instructor
So so so tough. It's almost like you're going for your Ph.D. She really makes you work for that A, which is fine because I worked harder and it made me a better student. My biggest complaint is she grades very slowly. You won't know how to fix your next assignment because the last one hasn't been graded yet. She's tough, though, so be prepared!
Dr. Beachley is great at doing lectures and is very informative. She will even respond to you on the weekend if you message her and she heavily prefers to be messaged on canvas. She has everything structured a little weird in canvas, but everything is open for the whole semester. You have 13 homework assignments and only have to do 6.
This History 101 class is significantly more difficult than my English 101 class and History 202 class. Her instructions are very unclear and she grades as if we are phd students.
She's friendly and her lectures aren't too boring, but her assignments are tough, long, and she grades them very harshly. She will leave very long detailed instructions and if you don't follow them to her liking don't expect a full score on any of her assignments. She will answer questions about assignments, don't expect them to be accurate though.
She is a very tough grader. There is a small packet of instructions for every assignment on just formatting. I felt like i was taking a PHD English course. I've taken several courses here at CSN and none of them have been this difficult and time consuming. If you aren't an expert essay writer and don't understand old English , good luck to you
Isn't a bad person, just not the best teacher. In-person class 80% is her talking and 20% is group discussion. There's little understanding of how points are marked off on errors, hence no rubric. You gotta be REALLY good at writing, paying attention to instructions, and analyzing walls of text to get an A. Only pro was cheap textbook. Good luck.
If writing is not your strong suit or you don't like reading a bunch of material, save yourself the tears you'll cry and just wait until next semester. This course comes with a bunch of reading and writing. Manage your time properly and do not fall behind. Her assignments are not ones you can do last minute. You HAVE to put in the time and effort.
Professor sorry, I mean DR. Beachley acts like this class is an Eng 300 course; for the first discussion boards, I went over 12 words and she docked me 10/40pts, and I received the grade 2 weeks after 3 other discussions. But I do blame it on myself for thinking that this was going to be an easier class than compared to my Calc and O-chem class...
I am not a fan of the way her online canvas portal is set up its jumbled together and not structured. If you are not good at writing look for a different professor, she grades way to harshly and you need ample time to do her course. I have taken other history classes before and hers is by far the worst I've had.
Dr Beachley is fantastic in her lectures. You will read long articles or a document and condense it into four paragraphs. Instructions are buried. The way she wants you to write in Chicago style is excessively confusing. Feedback for that work comes six weeks later in a research-heavy class. Last assignment combines all work completed for projects.
this was the WORST professor I have ever had in my life. she is absolutely terrible I took her online history 101 class and she acts like this is an upper division 400 level class. will not respond to your emails about what you are doing wrong and then proceeded to write a passive aggressive canvas inbox message saying not to email her. DO NOT TAKE
I took Diana and she was absolutely the worst teachers that I ever had. I cannot not recommend her enough. She was rude to me throughout the whole entire time and is a super harsh grader she would grade all my essays as D's. She just graded them low for the fun of it and wants to see people‘s lives get ruined Do not take this class. waste of money
My first semester back in college in over 10 years, and this is the WORST experience. I've seen other people say she grades low just for fun, and I would honestly be inclined to agree... no matter how much care you take to follow the assignment instructions, points are taken off every single time for BS reasons.
