My favorite prof so far! i switched to asci so that I could study sociology because she made it so interesting. All the lecture notes come straight from the textbook so there was minimal reading to do.

Overall a good professor, always making class interesting and engaging. Related course material to real life situations, and used out of the box examples to connect to course material. I was interested in the class every lecture we had. Super funny and entertaining, and easy to approach.

I have never felt so engaged and inspired in a classroom before. She has a million and one stories that are relevant to the class and to life in general. She's an all-around great person and it is worth every cold morning to go to her class!!!

She also stated in one class that she didn't being her undergrad until she was 28 years old and now she has her PHD. I learnt a great deal from her and I absolutely recommend this course... She is the best prof I have ever had and I am in 4th year. She is just someone that I think about sometimes when reflecting on my profs and think how encouraging and inspiring she was. Sometimes I wonder why people even become profs because they are so bad at it but Deanna is made for it. I got a 90 in this class.

Really nice lady. She cares quite a bit about her students which is refreshing. She tends to ramble in lecture then only test on textbook material which makes attendance optional.

She's very funny and you can tell she loves sociology however the course I found was pretty unorganized and the grading criteria was unclear. Also she showed up late to most lectures which was kind of anoying.

Amazing prof!! I was a science student who had never taken a sociology course before and I was really worried I wouldn't do well. I ended up getting a better grade in this course than many of my others. Deanna made a 7pm lecture on monday night into something I was excited to attend :)

What a great professor. She makes a 3 hour Monday night class exciting to go to. She is my favourite lecturer this semester and helps make the sometimes dry material interesting when she applies them to real life examples in lecture. I don't recommend skipping her class, but why would you want to? She is great professor!

I love her, maybe not her teaching style. She often simply reads a slide & then goes off on a tangent on one point. However, this could be because of the nature of a large first year classroom. Would be interested in what her upper year classes are like. However, she is incredibly & is 100% interested in helping & talking to students. She cares.

If you can take one of her classes, take it. Went through my first week of classes and considered dropping out as i didnt feel like I could do it, went to her first class and she told us how proud she was of each and every one of us and that she believed we all could do it. Best teacher I ever had, changed my life. Plus her stories are hilarious!

Deanna brought life to 1.3h-long lectures with hilarious anecdotes and real-world applications. First year has a huge class though, so all work is graded by TAs, but she's still involved on Courselink. She's super laid back, so sometimes we only went through 3 slides in an hour. Helpful to learning, but definitely read the textbook.

Her lectures were the highlight of my week. She tied in personal examples with the content which made it a lot easier to understand and connect with. I would highly recommend her class.

My absolute favourite professor. She is amazing and so inspirational. She has such a good talent for speaking to people and I appreciate everything she says. Academically, the textbook is mandatory, read the chapters and you'll ace the midterm and exam. Then there are 5 tutorial assignments which are only a page long and are relatively easy.

Behnke-Cook is a very inspirational prof that genuinely cares about how her students do. She makes her lectures engaging and she uses examples that are memorable and often times very funny. overall a great prof and I plan on taking more of her classes in the future.

As a science major, I'm not a social sciences lover. There are 5 tutorial assignments and they're supposed to be easy. I spent hours on them and get 50s-80s, and i'm a high 80s, low 90 student, but I also had a friend that wrote them in 15 minutes and got 80s-90s. Loved her in class though, personable and hilarious, loved listening to her speak :)

Amazing professor. I went to class and ended up just listening rather than taking notes because she made class feel like more of a discussion than a lecture. Cannot say enough good things about her. Studied for exams mainly from the textbook but that was plenty to get a good mark.

I had a three hour night lecture with Deanna and there was never a single night she kept us later than 2 hours. She also made it clear that despite our 600 person class, she cared about us and wanted us to succeed. Overall this class was easy, and even though it wasn't hard to keep up if you skipped, her personality and stories make you want to go!

This class is so much fun. Deanna is such an engaging speaker. She genuinely cares for her students and community and offers a lot of wisdom and encouragement. I rarely took notes and would just sit and listen. I found the midterm very fair. Pay attention during class, make sure you know what's covered in the text and you'll do great.

D is such an amazing lecturer. Not only is she interesting but she's hilarious and super easy to relate to. Feels like she's talking to you as a friend instead of listening to her teach. Cares deeply about her students and their success and will bend over backwards to ensure they get the best education possible. Her tutorials are quite difficult.

Great Professor. Had her for Intro Soc and SOC 4030. Lectures are always easy to listen to, and she is great to work with. My only complaint is that she can be hard to get a hold of by email because of the hundreds she receives from her 1000 level classes.

D is just an amazing prof and person. She cares so much about her students and always tells us that we matter and that we should be proud of ourselves. She also reminds us that if we ever have problems even outside the class, to go see her and reach out. She's an unforgettable prof and will inspire you to follow your dreams.

She really got me to start thinking about the social constructs of todays society and how important it is to have a son with rich red to ginger curls. Her lectures were very relatable to life and shes actually really great. Just make sure its not too hot In the room or shell pull a diva moment and end the class. Overall good.

Crash course sociology on youtube is your best friend for this course. Goes hand in hand with this course. The 3 hour lecture will always end early, and classes often get cancelled. Midterm and final exam were easier than you'd think it would be. There are 5 "tutorials" which are 250 word papers on a film/chapter/issue. You can skip class np.

I really enjoyed this class and this professor cares about her students and material being covered, was by far my favourite first year course and I truly admired her passion and kindness shown to her students.

Deanna is the coolest prof. I would 15/10 recommend. Assignment marking guidelines are not super clear or consistent among the TAs but the content is super interesting and if you're in the night class, she'll almost never run the full 2 hours and 50 min. I would totally take her class again!

i only have good things to say about Deanna and I always looked forward to her classes. She made them so interesting and even gave extensions when no one asked. She was so passionate and is one of the only profs i can say i think actually cared about her students. overall 10/10.

Deanna is by far one of the best profs at Guelph. I took SOC1100 online and even though we didn't have any face to face time, she always made sure her students were okay. She posts lots of announcements with encouraging words and is very easy to get a hold of. 10/10!

She genuinely cares about the students, especially during covid-19; she makes a few posts a week just checking in on us which is thoughtful. The only thing is which isnt a complaint, but she makes the students grade essays, courselink auto marks tests, and TAs marks discussions, and we learn 90% from the textbook, so she not much of a prof...

THE best prof I've had so far. She's understanding, kind, & is constantly "sending you big cosmic hugs!". Sure, the class itself can be difficult at times, as it's got at least one chapter of reading per week, and a couple of quizzes. However, she makes it interesting and so worth-while. She's a fair grader & a positive person :)

Took DE version of the course. The course focuses on the ebook content (its quizzes are super helpful). Unit quizzes are easy marks, discussions are interesting, the 2 short papers (2 pg double spaced) are fair. Deanna is the best part of the course overall. Even though I never met her, I can tell she is an amazing human.

I cannot hype up this woman enough. She was kinda all over the place when it came to the delivery of the course, but she was constantly available when you had questions and actually cared about us as students, unlike a lot of other profs. She cracks jokes in her lectures and talks to you like you're one of her peers. She's the best.

BEST prof and BEST course. SOC is simple to understand if you put in the effort and read the textbook! readings can get a little heavy so stay on top of them. Quizzes midterm and exams were super fair and based on the textbook material. Deanna posted a video every week to update us on material and she was so kind. Literally the sweetest human ever!

Deanna is by far one of my favourite profs at this school. She cares about all her students and their well being and is always available to chat. She posts all her slides in advance. The mid term and final exam use textbook and material from her slides. She keeps her classes interesting but doesn't always stay on track with required material.

The queen herself. I feel like I could be genuine friends with this women for just how awesome she is in every aspect! Professor, inspiration and overall a well-rounded person! I've never looked forward to going to class more than her's and just want her to know the amazing impact she's left on the students that are lucky enough to have her.

This prof is very kind and very easy to get in contact with. The only downfall of this course is that there is not many thing to be graded on, therefore meaning that exams are weighed quite heavily.

This is the easiest class you could take. You do not need to show up to lectures to pass but Deanna's lectures are interesting and fun, so a lot of people end up going anyways. She has a heart of gold and seems very passionate about what she does, it's very clear she cares about her students. Take this class if you want a GPA booster!

Took this class during the pandemic, but prof. Deanna Behnke-Cook was one of the nicest profs I have ever had still to this day. She was super understanding and accommodating when I was unable to meet deadlines, or when I didn't understand something in class. Most of the class was taught directly on TopHat. Sweet, caring professor that actually supports student mental health by giving trigger warnings for lectures and extensions on big assignments. Lecture was frequently cancelled or moved online, albeit usually with good reason. Deanna is funny and gives good lectures, I took this as an elective and loved it.

Cook was very caring and she was flexible with assignments and the TA's gave great criteria for the papers. Her class was often switched to a-synch because of extenuating circumstances but her class was easy to follow and she really cares about her students.

I absolutely loved her! I found her lectures to be engaging and everyone was always laughing in them even with a big class. I only had 1 assignment which she outlined very clearly about what to write and even extended the paper deadline 3 times when people had concerns.

She treats everyone equally and listens to those who need more time, space and resources. Her lectures in person and online videos are thorough and helpful. Don't be afraid to email! Highly recommend her!

she is very very sweet and super easy-going. she really does care about the student's mental health. the ta's for this class were also pretty nice when I had it. the course itself is also good. i would take her classes again every semester if I could!

She is a great person and an overall caring professor; however, her lectures are very random and sometimes have zero relevance to what we're supposed to be learning. It can be disappointing when you actually want to learn the content and instead get a chat session for an hour. Despite this, she listens to her students and cares. Thumbs up!

Professor DBC is an outstanding instructor. She genuinely cares about her students' well-being and strives to make a positive impact on their lives. She and the TA's are approachable and responsive, they quickly addresses emails. The midterm and exam are fair as long as you complete the textbook readings. Highly recommend DBC class!

Lectures are infrequent and enertaining. 3 hours scheduled, never goes that long, while still covering the content. You could go the entire course without attending a lecture, but why would you? She manages to keep lectures fun, and she very clearly cares about her students. She doesn't hold back from being feminist, and that's a much needed thing.

really sweet and fun prof. lectures were absolutely not mandatory for what was covered but i found myself going to them anyway because they were such a nice way to finish off the day. very light workload, only marked assignment aside from the midterm/final was the essay proposal + essay, which both had very clear guidelines and marking schemes.

Professor Deanna is amazing. She does go off on tangents quite a bit, but all of her stories have a connection to the course content. No quizzes, online exams, and only one paper. She is incredibly caring and loves her students. I would take this course again, or any course she teaches to be honest. Def take this course.

Professor Behnke-Cook is the absolute sweetest human being I have had the pleasure of meeting in my life. She is so caring about her students. This woman deserves the whole world. She is truly so inspiring. I suggest taking her SOC1500 and SOC1100, she certainly doesn't disappoint. She prioritizes her students always.

This woman sets the bar for how university professors should be. Deanna is the kindest purest soul I have ever met. I'm sad this course is coming to an end, but I will truly never forget how great her course was and how awesome of a professor she is. Coming to university was hard for me, but she made my first year better just by being there.

Very easy course, very funny prof! You don't need to go to the lectures to do well, everything is available on the posted powerpoints and in the textbook. She is a very sweet prof and absolutely hilarious.

Had her in my first year and she was a lovely professor. Always made it very clear that she cared about her students and their well-beings. Lectures are totally optional because all of the content is usually in the textbook, but they were always really fun to go to and she'd try to get us involved all the time.

She is one of the best profs i've ever had! Her lectures are very engaging and she really cares for all of her students. I really recommend her to anyone wanting to take her soc*1500 course.

Great prof. Lectures can be a bit hard to pay attention to if she's rambling but I personally enjoyed the stories she told us. She definitely cares about her students, is very clear on what she expects us to work on etc. Textbook was online and we had to do these quizzes with each chapter that were really easy but helped me. Professor Behnke-Cook is amazing - her engaging lectures and genuine care for students make this class a must-take. Textbook is helpful, and Unstuck ai proved to be a great study aid alongside the course materials.

She is my favourite prof, period. Im a creative writing major yet I would switch to sociology if it meant that she could teach every one of my classes. She is kind, funny, responds quickly, posts so many updates and info about assignments, lectures, you name it. Midterm and exams are online, no respondus or lockdown. She just wants us to succeed.

Deanna is a sweetheart. This class is the second one I've taken with her and I don't regret it. She's very understanding and attentive, and is always open to having a discussion with you. While there was only one short written assignment for the course, a portion of the final grade was TopHat and Revel based, so make sure to do the reading!

Although she tends to go off topic sometimes during lectures, this is one of the only lectures I would actually pay attention to because of her energy. She did cancel class a lot though.

Absolutely amazing professor! I took this course as an elective, and I very much recommend. Her lectures were very welcoming and informative. If you cannot make a lecture, she uses TopHat for her presentations so you can follow along without actively being there. She is very generous with deadlines, she tends to give extensions if needed :)
