Great teacher, grade based on essays (graded easy) pop quizes and 3 tests

Easy. Her secular humanism gets old quick, though.

hard as hell, gave me a C, half the time you don't know what shes talking about, extremely boring
It's obvious that she enjoys teaching about psychology.
Awesome teacher.
talks too fast, and tests are hard
omg. 4 exams we took i got a D,D,D. the final i got a B. i still had the D's though n guess what i got in the course. a B!!! one word... ESSAYS! i aced every single one of them, (and theyre easy). i also did all her extra credit. just be on top of things!
Takes test questions straight from the back of the book, off of old tests and off the textbook website. You can easily get an 'A' if you study all of these practice tests.
Easy class.
as long as you write down whatever she puts on the board you'll be ok...she's really passionate about psychology, so it's not to hard to stay tuned in.
great teacher. makes the class easier.
very fun teacher. easy to understand. tests can be hard but the essays are great.
After telling my friend thats an engineering major about this class. She is taking it even though she doesn't need it. This is the most animated class ever. Doctor Riveira's Psych 235 is a must !!!!
I took this course as an online class and it was sooooo easy. I'm getting an A. The teacher is really nice. There is no lecture since it is online, so that was nice.
A little odd perhaps, but hey, she's a psyche prof. Lectures are structured and clear, 1-2 pg essays required on wide range of topics plus one research paper. Challenging class, but not overwhelming.
Her class is soo hard she gives us notes and still expects us to go home and read the hole chapter, she doesnt even review befor an exam. the exams are soo hard! she doesnt even go over more than half the stuff she tests us on. not recommended! shes **** too!!!
101 was a little boring but she gives good examples to help you remember, very clearly lays out expectations. Essays are easy if you read and think about the material. Attendance is important as she will bump up your grade if you always come, 235 is has good group discussions.
She doesnt lecture. But that makes it hard to learn. You are never sure what excatly will be on the test cause she does not go over it. Our class just sat an talked to eachother. You watch boring videos. I dont recomended her if you want to learn but i think it is easy to get an A.
fairly nice lady, can't teach to save her life.
She's very intelligent, but sometimes tries too hard to make class time humorous. The 6 essays are easy. The research paper takes time, but isn't hard. She's very lenient when grading papers. The worst thing about this class is, you have to read the book if you want better than Cs on the four exams.
took the online course so i never really interacted with the teacher ever but deanna did seem very nice.this class could be tough if you dont have much time to devote to it.not having lectures is cool.
She is kind of hard, my friends who had previously taken her said she was hard. She gives pop quizes, in a way they're good b/c most quiz questions come out on the test, essays easy.Only bad thing is she seems like a horney teacher she always talks about sex, and tries to make jokes that aren't funny.
good teacher, very smart, interested in what shez teaching. good class discussion. understands college students. multi-choice tests are easy if you read the book. essay a few pages.
VERY sad when the highest test grade in a class is a C. If she didn't curve, then my course grade of A woulda been a serious D.
hard class to take online, hard to get a hold of as well.
Very interesting subject matter. I actually read and enjoyed the text!? Her essays are a peice of cake, research paper doesn't take too long, tests are brutal but she curves them
she was pretty interesting. dont take the class if she is pregnant cuz then she leaves and the sub is an **** who has no idea wut he is talking about. she was fairly easy as long as u go to class and take good notes.
Tests are tricky, but not too difficult if you study. Good at explaining.
her tests are really hard. but if you go to the website she gives you and study the flash cards from the start its not that bad.
I had her while she was pregnant... ugh.
Her class is easy if you read the chapters and turn in assignments in on time...however, she thinks she's funny when she's really not...sometimes she tries too hard.
she is boring and very unclear. not helpful at all. take this class if you want this to be your major ONLY!!! dont take it just because it looks interesting.
THE WORST TEACHER EVER DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS SHE IS BORING UGLY THINKS SHE IS FUNNY THE LIST GOES ON FRANKLY SHE IS NOT A NICE PERSON GRADES YOU AS IF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE A PHD IN PSYCH I AM WARNING YOU NOW DONT TAKE HER A COUNSLER HAS EVEN TOLD ME THAT SHE IS A HORRIBLE TEACHER. SHE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Class depends on students as it is a group-discussion based class. put in work and you will do well. the class became quite boring after a while. take it with a friend. that way there will be more discussion in class since you know someone.
didnt like her class! thinks everyone wants to major in psych
Dont take her class online!
She never responds to your email!! She doesn't care about you and is not helpful at all! I would never take her again.
Her tests are way too hard. She thinks were psychology grauate students and assume we want to learn every detail. She explains well but that is about it. She laughs at her own jokes. The material was interesting, but she was not. Find a better psych professor.
One of the worst teachers I've ever had. I would advise those interested to avoid her like the plague. On several occasions I corrected her (thought I was being helpful)and she was very nasty. Big ego!!!
She is a really good teacher. Her presentations are very specific and she is very willing to answer any questions. You will have to do a presentation on one psychological disorder but its pretty easy.
She's not an easy A. But you DO learn a lot. Her psychological disorders paper isn't hard if you start your research early, follow directions & can write at college level. She expects the best out of everybody and no less, hence her seeing the class as psych majors. I recommend her to those who WANT to learn and/or are psych majors.
Her tests are hard but she grades on a curve. Never once saw a negative ego from her and her lectures are not boring. She tries to make jokes but fails miserably but still a nice teacher. Study your notes and the chapter summary for her tests and beware of pop quizes.
I don't recommend this class online. Lots of work because you have no lectures. You must read the text to do well in the class. There is a quiz per chapter and also assignments and discussion. Will take up lots of your time, so if you don't have discipline, you are better off going to the actual class.
Deanna is definitely a big ego, that's for sure, and the thing to consider is that her tests are SPECIFIC, word for word, from the book, NEVER just generally about whatever's being taught, & although everything is layed out clearly for the online classes, it does take a lot of time and you have to make sure to read every word of the text carefully
Grades on a curve. I found it strange I had the highest score every time even when I scored an 81 (my worst), which curved to 100%. I practically memorized each chapter, but the questions are not well worded. I felt bad for students who stuck through the course and failed every test. There is no help, you have to read the textbook word for word
overall, this class was not so easy but not so hard. U NEED TO READ THE TEXTBOOOK. if you only study your notes you wont get an A on tests. Her tests are usually 100 question and all graded on the curve. There is no way you can fail this class ... she offers alot of extra credit in order to help your grade. I reccomend her=]
extreme feminist... grades on a curve for exams, quizes are impossible, you have to read every word in the text to do decent, incredible amounts of homework, and the class lectures are irrelevant and in no way help you in the class.
FOR ONLINE STUDENTS!!!! I took this class over winter break knowing that it would be a cram coarse, but it was unrealistic. We had to read a chapter (20-30 pages) and take a quiz (EXTREEMLY SPECIFIC/TRICK QUESTIONS) 6 days a week. Riviera was is no way helpful. All she did was sit back and collect a check. Maybe in a classroom, but NOT ONLINE!
took psych 101 online winter intersession. I didn't find the work overbearing. I did get a really low quiz average but thats just cause timed quizzes freak me out. If you read the material and use your book quizzes are easy. I thought the tests were fairly easy as multiple choice, but half the class failed each test. I thought it was a fair class.
Tough. Read the textbook WORD FOR WORD. She was not hugely accessible in my opinion--took her class online--and I struggled. Psych is usualyl an easy field of study for me, so it was frustrating. Even studying a whole lot for each exam, I could get a 60-68 which would be curved usually somewhere in the 80s. Start reading if you plan to do well.
She's on the harder side of the scale. See, there's lots of homework that's worth a good amount of points, and there are many EC opps. but a point cap of 30, so it doesn't help incredibly. Each test (there are 4) have 100 questions and the curve started at 79. Read and remember ever word of the reading if you want to get near the curve.
THIS TEACHER WAS REALLY HARD. I took her online class and i barely didnt pass it. ive taken online classes before and they were never as hard as this one. The questions on the tests were really hard. Take a different teacher. This class made me hate Psych.
she was a good teacher. kinda funny...but in a weird way. and she was really quirky. if you take it over the summer its not too much. and i got a b. so it was all good.
PSYCH 235. if u wanna take 235 take it with her. she is a cool teacher. Her class helped me transition from highschool. other people might say she's hard in psych 101 or online, ehh i dunno. Cuz in my class it was pretty chill as long as u read the next chapter in the insightful books assigned.
this teacher is hard. im so glad that my class is almost over. her quizzes are so hard unless you actually read the text WORD FOR WORD. she thinks that teh quizzes are easy but its not...same with the tests. NOTES do not help...READ THE BOOK!!!! i got an A in the class though but took me a lot of work just to get the grade.
She is a hard teacher, but wants you to really learn. She is silly and I enjoyed her in class. You DO have to read the text book. Her exams are hard, but she grades on a curve. She is a great teacher. I took this class over the summer and it wasn't too difficult. If you want to learn I would take her. She is passionate about her class and lov
She is a great teacher and she has a way of making the subject fun.
Took her Online Intro to Psych class and found it really easy. Just have to read the book. There is a quiz/discussion board/assignment for every chapter, but all were graded easily. The tests also have similar questions to the practice tests in the book which helped with studying.
I took the class online and it moved at a very nice pace. She tests straight from the book so if you actually read the chapters you will be fine. She didn't assign too much work and seemed like a very nice lady. I would definitely take another class with her. The test were difficult but had I read more they would have been much easier. Basically its what you put into it...
shes easy. whoever says her tests are hard are retarded. she grades her essays easy and her tests on a curve. study. you get the A.
keep it real
I took her over the summer online and it was super easy. It is a lot of work but she has everything available to you from the first day of class. You can get it done early if you want. Tests are pretty simple. No trickery straight up and clear. Extremely helpful teacher and class is crystal clear. Do the work & there's no need to study. Easy A/B

I took her for Psych101. Her class was pretty easy. The test questions are the exact questions that are in the end of the chapter quizes/tests. But the chapter quiz questions are fairly from lectures. She makes class interesting. The 4 essays are graded very easily. Seriously, its not hard. AND there is A LOT of extra credit. :)
took summer class which meant more work in shorter amount of time. lots of studying yet very interesting. pretty good teacher. very helpful. highly recommended using study guides and practice tests on the psych COC website.
Good prof. Some say shes hard because you have to read word for word, but we ARE in college and we are SUPPOSED to read word for word in order to learn what we need in classes. I took her online and got a 10/10 in every assignment and discussion. All you have to do is try. Tests ARE tough and might bring your score down but she offers extra credit.
I had her for psych 101 and psych 100 more recently, she is very easy everything is straight from the book AND lectures. Don't miss class, read the chapters and it's an easy A!
Took her winter intersession course, its tough but definitely manageable. Daily lectures, and quizzes(make sure you're prepared). Tests are questions from study guide. One research paper, and 4 short essays. But everything is clearly in the syllabus plus extra credit. Stay on top of your assignments and study and you're set.Take her! She's great =]
She is a good teacher. Her lectures are very interesting and the class was fun!
Shes good, tests are hard but she has extra credit and she grades essays really easy, its easy to get a B, but a bit harder to get an A
This teacher could care less whether she passes or fails a student. She also has way too many restrictions when it comes to turning assignments. She has her favorites in class- which should happen- let alone in a college level class. I am never one to leave early, but if you are that type of person, this class is not for you. BEWARE!!!
It is a tough class but there are a lot of points. I took it over summer so it was very fast & took up a lot of my time. If you take the summer term there is 2 quizzes a week, 1 test a week, 4 short essays (that she grades easily), a report, & other misc. assignments. She is a great teacher & very organized. I learned a lot & retained the info.
Great teacher! Took her for summer session psych 101, lots of quizzes and essays but they are very easy. The tests can be a little bit harder as the questions come out the study guide. Got my B with little to no effort.
Great teacher. Not hard if you just read the book! Multiple choice tests with 95% of the questions coming from the chapter quizes and the study guide. 4 essays and a research paper.
She loves her job, and her teaching shows it. The course requires major studying, and it's definitely not easy, but with effort, and A is possible. She's extremely helpful, honest, and an amazing teacher.
It's very important to either have time-managment skills beforehand, or learn some fast. She gives all the work she expects right up front, with no extra suprises (unless it's extra credit). If you can keep track of all the work (there are quite a number of tests and quizzes), you'll b fine.
She's a great professor and gives you plenty of extra credit to pass the class. Attendance is mandatory because you either have a quiz or have to turn in homework. I hardly used my book and got an A.
I didn't really ever study so I passed with a B. But the essays are easy. The quizzes are easy. The midterm is also easy. I passed the final without studying. The books help though!
100Q tests, and a 150Q final. Both with short answer or questions as well. She doesn't lecture much, and doesn't go over the essay questions in class. They're from another mandatory book. Also there are 2 presentations. There is a little EC.. An A is possible for those who are disciplined self learners.
100Q tests, and a 150Q final. Both with short answer or questions as well. She doesn't lecture much, but is skilled when she does. Doesn't go over the essay questions in class. They're from another mandatory book. Also there are 2 presentations. There is a little EC.. An A is possible for those who are disciplined self learners.
Great teacher! class was difficult and studying is a must! if you study and do the homework and the e.c then you can defiantly get an A. She assigns homework everyday and class is made up of groups.
She treated the class like we were still in junior high or high school. She's a good teacher for the most part just don't be expecting to be considered trustworthy.
Took her honors 101 class and as long as you READ THE TEXTBOOK there should be no problem in getting an "A" in the class, period.
All You need to do is read the text book and u will be fine grades essays easily. just the read the text book she is very helpful and funny
She's nice enough and the information is interesting. You have to go to class. And she tends to act like the class is full of high schoolers...which it was
I enjoyed this class very much. I have no interest whatsoever in psychology and she made it interesting. It's real simple, take notes, study them and you'll get an A. STUDY GUIDE IS A MUST, spend 3 hours studying it before every test and you are guaranteed an A on the test. Nice lady who treats everybody equally, same rules apply to everybody.
Deanna is a knowledgeable and helpful teacher. Make sure you do all the work and read the chapters and you will get an A.
Awesome professor. She definitely knows what she is talking about. She gives really good examples and is funny. Her lectures are interesting and she makes Psych fun. STUDY STUDY STUDY for her exams. Read the book and take GOOD notes. She offers EC as well. Just do your best and you will pass. I would def take her again. Amazing prof. (:
Awesome professor. She was very clear and gave a lot of examples to help you understand. There's 4 essays, 4 tests, 9 quizzes, and 1 research paper. Study every single practice test/quiz in the book since she uses them on her tests. Be careful if you take her short-term summer class. Its a chapter a day and it'll really drain your time.
very easy teacher, she taught me a lot aboyut the topic and i really enjoyed her class. she is extremely hot, i recomend her to all males
first two days of class, i didn't like her. i thought i wanted to drop and that it was like high school. but she grows on you with her cheesy jokes during lectures. i enjoyed going to class. i believe it was 4 tests, 10 quizzes, 4 one page essays [you get full credit for doing], and one research paper [full credit for doing!]. plenty of extra cred
I got an A in her class. But I did not like her. Not a hard class if you do the work...If you do get stuck with her, just deal with it. She's just one of those teachers, you know?
She's one of those professors that comes to class excited to teach. She has a lot of energy and is really passionate about psychology. Study the textbook and study guide and the tests are simple. Take advantage of the extra credit! She grades on points accumulated so its very straight forward. I would definitely recommend her class!
Her class was very intersting. She loves to teach psych and is always smiling. She may be a little cheesy but she is fair! She has a real concern for students and it shows.
Had her for psych 105 & everyday was literally group work there are no study guides nor does she ever tell you what to study. Tests are somewhat difficult but they are graded on a curve. Overall class isn't difficult but you hardly learn anything.
The class was kind of boring, but Deanna's quirky personality made up for it! Lectures & reading are required to do well on the tests, but thankfully, she grades them on a curve. Do the extra credit, and you'll get an "A". I would recommend Deanna.
Such a great person. But she only covers about 1/4th of the material before each test in the Honors class. REQUIRES HOURS OF READING ON YOUR OWN TIME. If you read each of the chapters on your own, you'll do fine. Just know going into the class that attending and taking lecture notes alone will earn you a low C/D. Quite a bit of reading is required.
Good teacher. Quirky personality which sometimes made lectures funny. Learned alot from her, and I am actually more interested in psychology than when I first started her class. You WILL have to read the book. Will not pass with good grade unless you do. Would recommend.
attendance is ABSOLUTELY necessary. no make up (almost) whatsoever. Her exams are extremely easy (all you have to do is read the textbook) but her lectures are a drag and she treats us like we are in grade school. She seems better off teaching high school students. (she wanted to go into drama so she over exaggerates many things
Mrs. Riveira is an amazing teacher. She loves what she teaches and tells stories to help you remember the material. Attendance to her class is mandatory. She is completely fair! You will definitely need the textbook! She also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. She is the best teacher ever if you just take notes & pay attention!
Not a prude, not afraid to discuss sex and violence, she made this class both interesting and informative. It was an overall enjoyable experience that I came out of with a greater knowledge of both the human mind and what can go wrong with it, along with a decent helping of biology and anatomy. Just make sure not to miss too many classes!
She definielty a character! But she's open and honest with her students and gives you plenty of opportunities to do your best. Stick with the textbook, read it, take notes in class and you'll do just fine. A little busy work here and there but nothing too crazy or obnoxious. Would for sure take her again.
She is the head of the Psychology department as she should be because she know's exactly what she's talking about. Her lectures are really accurate to her tests and everything she said wasn't off topic and really informative. Use the study guide because most of her test questions come from that.
What a tough cookie. She is nice and good with in-class lecture, but when she is speaking to you one on one she is not very helpful. If anything she's kind of rude. She gives very little grace period opportunities, but did give two small extra credit assignments towards the end. She's just okay. I would try to find someone better. Very average.
Prof. Riveira had a very vibrant personality that kept the class going. She is very clear in what she wants you to know and the class is not too difficult. Getting an A isn't hard as long as you read all the chapters assigned and know what's important. I would definitely recommend her.
Lacks empathy for students. Power hungry
Professor Riveira is one of the best teachers Ive had while attending COC. She was very helpful and was always willing to help. I would recommend anyone to take her classes its well worth it.
She's tough, but she's smart. She knows her stuff. You have to read and there's a lot of info. There are quizzes, tests, online tests(just graded on completion), 5 online writing assignments, and a paper. Don't take with other hard classes, you need study time. She can be intimidating, but she will help. DON'T BE LATE. She keeps track! Fun but work
One of the first classes I took at COC and it was the best time. She's good at what she does and loves doing it.
You use the book a lot. If you read the chapters and use the online resources available to you, it is possible to get an A. The tests answers are taken straight from the book, so if you read it it is easy. Her lectures are really interesting. I loved her class.
I didn't hate this class, and I ended up passing with a B but it's pretty difficult. Her lectures are just for clarity and they hardly help you on tests. I learned more from the textbook than her, honestly use the end of chapter tests, she basically steals all the questions from there. She also is cringeworthy with all the harry potter references.
She's so so helpful and wants you to get the best grade. But you get what you earn!! She gives lots of opportunities to get your grade up & the essay prompt is the same for every test! Highly recommend this professor for psych 101.
Awesome Professor. Loved her style. Very Easy flowing. Does not trick you. I can see why some may say she is tough but honestly just stay on top of everything and your golden.
Study the chapter questions in the book thats where she gets all of her questions.I don't even think she read my term paper so that was an easy A. You basically get 5 pts for showing up every day and filling out a presentation form. You need MyPsychLab and the book. Her lectures are kinda pointless because she's missing most of the info you need.
It was an honor's class so I went in ready to be put to work, so no surprises there. The tests are INCREDIBLY difficult, so use all the study aids and test reviews in the book. There are student presentations every class period that really get in the way of her covering the course material so you end up doing a lot of material by yourself at home.
shes ok
She's quirky and a self-described geek but in endearing way. You have to work for an A. YOU HAVE TO READ THE CHAPTERS AND THEY ARE LONG. At the very least, take the end of section quizzes and chapter review from the textbooks and study the answers. Use the modules and tests on mypsychlab. Really helps! She gives you many opportunities to succeed.
I just finished up Psychology 101 today. I really enjoyed her class. Everything connected from her lectures to book reads and then to tests. My recommendation. READ THE BOOK and have semi-perfect attendance. Don't slack on workload, visit other resources such as; the TLC. It helps when formatting research papers. Tests are crucial to passing.
I took this class in the winter short term. I really enjoyed her and I would highly recommend her. Her lectures were very interesting and I enjoyed them. Expect to read the entire book NO JOKE. There are like 12 quizzes, 4 exams, and a research paper and other short writings. You have to really study and show up to the class or you won't pass.
She makes us use MyPsychLab and that thing is 60 DOLLARS. We're POOR. come on! But other than that, she is fine. She's funny and clear. But she gives a lot of homework, requires much reading, there's 5 essays, and a big research paper. The 4 exams are prob hard too, but hey, if you're a Psych major, her class will totally help you.
Deanna Is one of those people in the world who are gifted in their profession and is willing to be fully into her students success and effective teaching. She is passionate about psychology and is very funny too. If you get the chance to take her you will be privledged and learn a lot :) She is a beautiful and intresting person.
Love this teacher her humor and her knowledge on all that is nerd. Passing her class is fairly simple READ, DO THE MYPSYCH LAB WRITING ASSIGNMENTS, WRITE YOUR PAPER AND PASS HER TESTS. Very clear unless you miss classes and dont really study.
Mrs. Riveira is an amazing teacher. Her lectures are clear, educational, & funny; she keeps your attention. She is a tough grader and takes tests and class very seriously. You will have to read and analyze the entire book and pay attention in class in order to succeed. She does kick you out on site for cellphone use but the rules are very clear.
I took this professor to get my General Education out of the way. She is hard and makes you work for your A. I got a B because I didn't do well on the first exam. Her exams are hard and exactly from the textbook. If you can learn from a textbook, you'll do well. Do the research paper and the extra credit quizzes. Good luck kiddos.
This professor deeply cares about psychology and teaches with passion. not totally difficult to get an A in, bu you need to work for it. do the MYSPSYCH Lab assignments, EXTRA CREDIT QUIZZES, and research paper
Professor Riveira is GREAT! Her lectures are clear and loves answering any questions a student has. Her tests are long but really easy if you study of course. Just read all the chapters and you will pass the exam. She makes the lectures really interesting and cracks some jokes at times to make the class alive. I highly recommend taking her class!
Porfessor Riveira was one of the best professors I've ever had. I had to take the class twice, didn't pass the first time because it was my fault. Super helpful, kind of intimidating, but very kind. She helped me in so many ways. Be sure to read the text book as it does make the tests and quizzes a lot easier to pass.
She's a great teacher you will learn things, but shes very very uptight about cell phones if she sees you on your phone or it sitting on your desk she stops herself mid sentence walks up to the student and embarrasses them and kicks them out. She's super picky about grading.
You have to earn your grade but shes not too difficult. Very interesting never boring, easy to understand what is expected.
Super funny, engaging lectures. Provides multiple opportunities for easy extra credit. She really cares about her students and is friendly and approachable and always willing to answer questions.
This was my first class back to college, I have been out of school for 4 years and I received at A in this class. It is doable, just be ready to read! Her lectures are entertaining and funny, making the information easier to remember. All Exams are multiple choice. Final is not cumulative. Grades on a curve. Truly enjoyed this class.
If you go to class you should pass. Test are a lot of information but she gives you plenty to study off of in her lectures and the book. If you put in work you will pass.
The class is easy if you study and read the text book. she lets you know what you should know for sure sometimes for tests. only did one essay in her class and it was really easy. also did 4 mini essays which are an easy A if you read the book. Would definitely take again. lectures are interesting too.
I don't think the average of exam scores when I took it were very good, but I got a B. My advice is if in the beginning you don't understand something get help! Don't think you don't have to read, she will give pop quizzes. Do mypsychlab essays right away. Don't use ur phone, she will humiliate you. If you do well on all exams you can get an A.
I took this professor my first semester here and I didn't like her. I felt like I was in high school with her strict policy on phones. She doesn't care for a student's success. Anyways the material is interesting, but remember to read and study because she will give pop quizzes. Just handle her and you'll get through it.
This professor is so rude and if you use your phone for the last minute of class she will catch you. It was literally 2 minutes before class, reminds me of high school. Her exams are tough so make sure you understand the info in the beginning or you'll be behind like i was. If you get it asap you will get an A. Read do paper and quizzes. hard class
I don't grasp material fast and it takes me awhile, however this class ruined my fall semester. First exam I studied very hard and she still gave me a fail. I ended up trying new study methods and found the right one for me. My god this woman loves psychology so much she gives out quizzes every week. Make sure to read and do paper, lol good luck!
This professor is challenging so be ready to work hard. I do have to say once I found a better way to study the material was interesting! I remember after taking the final I walked out feeling so confident I got everything right. That was a nice feeling, but I went through stress mainly with my other courses. If your full time I don't recommend.
Okay, I'm gonna go on a little rant for a second. When you go into Calculus, you expect it to be challenging, or if you're taking organic chemistry you know it's going to be difficult. Pysch 101 is not a class of 'Omg I need to study 3 hours on tonight' type of course, but it is. No other psych prof at COC assigns 100 ? exams andquizzes every week.
Kind of a tough grader, she's a stickler for APA. Kind of a tough grader but she just wants you to at least try. She does give out a lot of homework assignments that aren't worth much. She's pretty fair and does want students to succeed but don't show up late on quiz/exam days or you won't be able to take it. She's definitely a rule follower.
Ok, the class material is easy. The class professor basically power points you to death. We spent every class period frantically copying her PP. She is strict and if you're even a minute late to class, forget about taking a quiz or turning in your HW. Don't try, saw too many students get humiliated. I would avoid if punctuality isn't your thing.
You can get an A! It will be hard, but you must understand the info the first day of class. If you don't you will be completely lost since material is piled up. I got a F on first, then D, then C, then a B on the last one; I got a B. You must use analogies to remember terms, it will help! Do not use ur phone, she humiliated me because of it.
If you are not doing well, I recommend you doing the essays on mypsychlab and the quizzes till u get it 100%. She has a term paper no credit/credit and that helped my grade a lot. Her exams are tough so personalize the terms make them ingrained in ur brain so when u see on exam you'll know it. That's what I did and wish I did it first exam.
This professor was insane. She gave out 100? Exams that are verbatim from the textbook WORD FOR WORD and hard quizzes where u have to close read the text. Once I realized her exams are the same as textbook I started studying from there and reading closely. We had a sub for awhile and she was SUPER HELPFUL! I ended up with a B so I thank her.
This class is not easy, but I'm going to tell you some wisdom for passing this class. Type out the notes I swear it works wonders. read the entire text WORD FOR WORD and type out every term and find pictures online that will help you remember the terms. Personalize it and you'll realize the exams were word for word from the psych textbook.
I really don't recommend her if you work or you are full time student with tons of courses. I went to talk to her about how I had hard time balancing everything and she was kinda rude. You need to do her essays and her quizzes(in class) and term paper. It will help, but it's a lot of work. Again if u work I wouldn't take this professor.
When I took it I had a lot going on more with my other courses and dealt with stress because of that. I went to talk to her about how I had a hard time balancing everything and all she said was "Well your going to have to learn." Not helpful at all, but her sub was helpful and helped my grade. Do the essays and term paper, I got a B. Study hard
Material is interesting, however I really didn't like this professor. She was rude about me asking a question and I studied my butt off for the first exam, but still failed. I ended up finding a different study method and started to bring up each average grade. Some chapters were more interesting than others and the sub was very helpful.
She comes off nice, but later on she makes it ridiculously hard. type em out. For ego and Id I chose a pic of sponge bob with a angel donut and devil donut. If I knew typing out worked I'd do for first exam and would have got an A. Aim for an A on every test and study ALOT. The material ain't that hard if you can imagine a image while taking it.
This class was tough. Every morning I took my daily Zanex before an exam because I got anxiety attacks from this class. Trying to learn multiple chapters is tough and to make it worse test are a big portion of your grade. Make flashcards and study the terms and textbook. You can get an A if you ace every test, but ask questions and read!
I got help when I took it and really did learn a new study tip. Look at the word and put a meaning to it. This helped and when I realized this I typed out the notes of every term/explanation and used analogies. I would do pics of my favorite tv show that deals with schizophrenia so I remember the word. Come final exam it was so easy. Got a B.
If your a psych major this professor will def help you! I found the material tough to learn, but if you find a study method for YOU that works for YOU it's very interesting. I found a great study method that helped me get my grade up each exam. I did all essays, quizzes(in class only), and research paper. Make sure u understand essays. She's ok.
She's a fantastic teacher! I enjoyed her quizzes and tests and her slides were awesome. She's super personable because she tells you about the books she loves that makes it easy to want to be in her class. You should do outside reading though if you want a solid grade on the tests
She's not a bad professor, her teaching method just didn't work for me. I got help after the first exam and understood so much better! Her final is from the text,so just her lectures only clarify info. Online essays help to understand info and is studying! Proofread, etc. I got perfect score just by writing less but keeping explanation short.
She's very passionate in psych. I did learn interesting things I never even knew. We used a mypsychlab to take all quizzes and type essays out. They are pretty helpful. Type up notes on google(whatever you use) and make flashcards. Read the book get help right away! Her exams are tough so pay attention to terms and phrases. Good luck
She's amazing great personality makes the lectures so much more fun and interesting!
Expect in doing lots of work in this class
She super reasonable with her grading criteria and definitely helps you better your skills
Psychology is very interesting. The main thing I found interesting were the last chapters for final; thus what I did very well on. She talked about psychology of sex, mind, disorders, mental illnesses, intelligence, etc. I learned interesting topics. Do the essays online and make sure you understand from very beg. You might just get an A!
After the first test, I learned how I needed to study. I took notes during class in the textbook (lecture followed book) and highlighted. After we finished a chapter, I would read through it with my notes and make notecards as I read. I would go through the notecards for all of the chapters on the test. I also put examples on the cards which helped
Dr. Riveira was amazing! Her lectures were wonderful and very informative! There are quizzes for just about every chapter and InQuizitives for all chapters. Do the IQs bc they are very helpful but allow at least an hour to finish them. Read the book, esp. for the exams! Not a hard class. Definately enjoyable, not a waste of time. You'll love her!!!
She is AMAZING. You will have a project throughout the semester DO NOT LEAVE IT TILL THE LAST MINUTE. The grade you work for is the grade you will earn. If you need help on a chapter, she will help you!
I seeked help after first exam and that helped boosting test scores one letter grade. I added an analogy to terms and names of psychologist. psychology is memorization, but to memorize you need to apply! In class quizzes, term paper, 5 exams or 4, mypsychlab. These were all beneficial to exam material. This class can help for any psych majors
It's been awhile since I took this course, but I do remember learning about diff mental disorders, learning, cognitive, sex, physiological, etc. If you plan on majoring in psych find the topic that interests you the most. I struggled, but i kept working hard and found if i look at root i can figure it out! I applied the words and really retained it
Honest to God, do not take this class if youre unwilling to read & have a lot of quizzes. The professor is really strict, feels like were in a high school environment, really strict on cell phones and signing in. You cant skip class and if you leave she marks you down as absent. Only half the matieral she goes over in class is on test
Hands down my favorite professor at COC. Her humor is sarcastic and dark at times, which comes across as rude to some students. However, she genuinely cares that you're learning. She has in-class activities that really help with grasping concepts, gives homework directly related to final projects, and gives great feedback on paper and in person.
Really cares about her students. Lectures/ notes are straight from the book but in simpler terms. tests are easy if you study. There is also one 10 question quiz a week which is really a point booster. Easy A
Professor Rivera is a great teacher. She really connects to life situations to help you understand better. She doesn't give a crazy amount of homework. Quizzes for every chapter but they are really easy.
The Inquisitive homework assignments she gives are ridiculous and make no sense. They take forever to complete, and the questions are horribly formatted. Get ready to be frustrated.
This professor is difficult, due to her 100 question exams; however the level of information provided is exemplary. You will learn a lot; however you must study. Read your book and study your notes, her lectures are amazing.
She really makes the lectures fun and interesting. she is so helpful and does what she can to help people pass the class. Would highly recommend taking a class with her!
This professor was extremely boring. She mostly lectured off powerpoints and long videos. Her tests were okay as long as you take good notes and study. Quizzes after every chapter and a semester long APA document as well as participating in everyone elses project. Got an A but was extremely bored all semester.
She lectures everyday with an occasional video. Reading the book is vital for the chapter quizzes and exams. Don't skip class, you might miss a chapter quiz. If you want to excel on the exams, read the book. Her grading on the research paper is fair. The online homework can get excessive, but provides cushion for you on exams.
While there are a lot of tests, this professor is exceptional. She grades on a curve of 10 questions off and her lectures are incredible. She speaks slowly enough and provides plenty of examples. Try and study the book and your notes and you will thrive.
It was super easy. All the quizzes and tests came straight from the book. All quiz questions were in the tests and tests had a built-in curve so it was out of 90 instead of 100. She gives tons of extra credit. Although you HAVE to read the book. Read the book and use quizlet and it'll be easy. Also inquizitives are extra points so do them!
The professor was very kind and had good explanations. The lectures do not go over everything, so at home reading is very important. Do not wait til the last minute to write your research essay in this course. I would recommend taking her over spring or fall. However if that is not an option do not take any other classes while taking her.
Maybe it was just because of quarantine, but she was awful. Dropped me from the class without warning at one point, and her tests straight up either contradict the book or require information not found in it or her lectures.
I personally did not have a good experience in this class. Im sure she is a lovely women but her class was just not enjoyable. I felt alot of the test material was not in the lectures or in the stupid wiley plus website we have to use for this class. Be willing to study your butt off for the test or you will fail.
Any issues that you have with Wiley Plus will be answered by her or she will direct you to the troubleshooting. Most of the material she goes over in her lectures are topics that need more clarification. There was not really anything throughout the semester that prevented me from receiving an A.
Dr Riveira cares that her students learn. Her lectures were very interesting and fun. She'll have you work on a big project throughout the semester, but you can team up with a classmate, and you complete it in sections. She was always in a good mood, and always willing to help. She's a GREAT Professor, take her!
I would hands down say that she has been the worst prof I have taken so far, for being a psych major. Gives absolutely no feedback, no examples to look at for anything, her lectures are basically useless because all she does is read the slides. For being the head of department one would think & hope she would be better at teaching.
So I went into this class expecting it to be the last class I have to take at COC. Unfortunately the way she had the online course set up (due to covid) was atrocious. She 'handed' out homework in the chat on zoom, due dates were oftentimes wrong, and she made every assignment due at 9:40am. Her online courses are nonsensical, but shes a good prof.
This Professor's class has been crazy since Covid. She basically teaches by reading off slides. The students in this class are basically learning off the book only as she never covers the whole chapter when in class.
Absolutely not. My near 100% in assignments still wasn't enough to get me an A, as her class was very test oriented. When I told her that my power was out the day before finals, she told me to go to the parking lot of COC to take her final at 9:30 the next morning rather than some type of alternative. She is a fun person just not a very good prof.
Professor Riveira makes the lectures interesting and she is open for questions and discussion in lectures. There are 15 question quizzes for every chapter. The homework, quizzes, and exam are somewhat in the same format and have similar questions.
Took the 5-week accelerated course. It was about an hour and a half of homework every night, relatively easy. Pay close attention and study the text closely and you'll be fine!
This class was a short semester but great experience. In a span of four weeks we had 4 exams, multiple EC opportunities and quizzes. one group project, and two workshops. The load is pretty heavy but very easy and she is very helpful. She is big on APA so be prepared. Two textbooks are mandatory.
She dropped me from her class one week before the end of the semester for missing three lectures, after explaining that I work two jobs and I could not show up she still did not care to let me back in. Lectures are not explanatory. However, she will accommodate to DSPS students, thankfully. You most likely will not pass.
Make sure to do well on exams because they are a big portion of your grade. Overall, she was a good professor.
This class was probably my least favorite at COC. She never fully explained any of the assignments and expected us to just know how to do things. Like many have said, the grading is very test heavy and even though I was receiving 100% on my assignments, the tests were where I was struggling a bit and it really overshadowed on my final grade.
Great professor who is passionate about what she teaches. Easy A and very interesting class. It is very lecture heavy. Tests not proctored.
Dr. Riveira is one of my favorite professors at COC, she was always in a good mood, and made her lectures fun and interesting. The class project was divided in sections so it made it a lot easier to complete. Her class was fun and engaging and everyone participated in research. Loved her class!
Kind teacher. Lecture exams are open note, which is great. This entire course, revolves around a research paper and presentation. Be very careful in terms of the topic you pick cause that will really determine the level of difficulties you will endure throughout the course (speaking from personal experience)
Doctor Riveira's psych 101 class is challenging, but will prepare you for other psych classes. The difficulty of her class will make other psych classes easier. I would recommend her classes to any students who want to pursue a career in psychology.
Although it may seem like a lot of work, Professor Riveira breaks each assignment down to the point where it's easily understandable and easy to work through. If you enjoy Psychology, this class won't be too hard for you. She is incredibly understanding and very caring about her students wellbeing and performance. She is also a very lenient grader.
I had professor Rivera for psych 101 over the summer and she was an average online professor. By which I mean she was not bad, but not good. She did not do lectures, which is normal but unsatisfactory. My main grip was the odd due date schedule. Some times we had 2 days for a chapter, some times only 1. Most tests were at weird points as well.
Professor Riveira's class seemed very intimidating at first because when you see the syllabus it states there is a research project with presentations involved. Professor Riveira makes it easy though she spreads the assignment throughout the semester. We are allowed to have a partner. She is easily accessible during office hours. Great professor!
teach yourself, don't waste your time does not teach, just has you go over chapter lesson that she crams into exams sometimes you're doing 3/4 chapters an exam. is a hard grader for discussions. just pick a different teacher. just not a good teacher at all just pick a different professor!!!
Currently taking her psych 103 class, be ready to learn entire course work and methods on your own. She is very nice BUT more often gets side tracked. Zoom classes lack substance and structure.
Took her hybrid class and it was super easy. You have to learn by reading the textbooks but she allows open notes and texts on exams. She also spreads the presentation as little section assignments throughout the semester so you'll basically have it done once the whole presentation and paper is due. She always takes food for the class!!
An icon. Very easy going, just pay extra attention to what she is looking for in the papers, plus she gave great feedback on each draft, which was very useful!!
I learned so much in this class. It is intimidating at first and is challenging but she gives you every opportunity to pass if you show up and do the work. The class is centered around a research project that she paces out through the semester very well. Tests are a big part of your grade but are open not. Weekly quizzes are closed note.
Ms. Riviera, she made my semester great by being available during her office hours and providing good feedback on all my assignments. She respected my accommodations and made the exams pretty easy to understand. I felt comfortable talking to her about my assignments that I didn't do to well on and she would encourage me to do better next time.
There are no lectures you need to read the textbook because your exams are all about the textbook, but they are open notes which is good! I took the fast-paced class which meant an exam every other week. There is one big project which the class revolves around but it is enjoyable. You present in front of the class, so be prepared for that.
I took Psych 101 with Prof Riveira over the Summer of 2024. There was a mandatory Pearson revel online book that had easy review quizzes, about 4 essays, and chapter readings. The majority of the courses work is from the revel textbook, each chapter took me about 3 hours to complete. Since I took the 5 week course, I had about 4 chapters weekly.
Professor Riveira makes this class engaging. The textbook-focused exams are open-note, and the project is enjoyable. Unstuckstudy AI was a lifesaver for prep alongside the readings.
She was an OK professor. Her material was all available on Canvas but sometimes she wouldn't post HW answers so we didn't really know if we understood the material. She gives you many chances to receive extra credit (you'll need them). Sometimes if you asked a question she could be a little condescending or rude.
Nice professor
