ridiculously inflexible and unwilling to compensate for her errors. assigns a stupid amt of homework and couldn't care less about the future of her students. don't take this class if you need the A
Daily quizzes, lots of homework, and unclear lecture. Calculus 2 is already a very difficult class, but the workload from this class specifically made it significantly harder. Our first test had an average of around 50%, and no curve was given. Only recommend taking it if you have no other classes to worry about that semester; VERY time-consuming.
um yeah, im having a tough time in this class lol. I had a 4.0 straight through HS and 5 on the BC test but even that wasnt hard compared to this class. I mean I get that deanna is REALLY proud of her UCI degree, continuing to flaunt that ridiculous fact many times over, but really? this is IVC, not MIT. she needs to chill.
half of our homework is always about something she forgot to teach in class. I have to self-teach all of it using the internet or the text book, because she'll forget some REALLY important theorem/equation that you need in order to do the hw. smfh. like she doesnt even teach the material, what are we supposed to do?
Avoid her! You cannot view test in class to see what you missed it has to be in her office hours. Can't visit her during office hours? That sucks for you because she doesn't care. SO MUCH HW! Lowest quiz is dropped. HW due every week, along with a quiz. Ridiculously long study guides! Over 100 problems with no problems worked out for you to see.
Yeah not that good. I've always been pretty good at math, but she was not a good teacher. If one person seemed to understand the concepts (likely someone retaking Math 3A) she would move on. She moved way too fast, and she had kind of an attitude. She gives a lot of hw, and is not lenient on quizzes. Avoid her!!!
I had her and she is one of the worst teachers/professors ive had. She gives wayyy too much homework. Theres a quiz about once a week. She moves way too fast when giving lectures and you can ask questions to clarify but she doesnt go in depth, she just kind of talks and doesnt show. The only good thing good about the class was her teacher aid.
In-class problems and quiz every week. You need to spend about 3 hours every week to finish the homework. She will give you the practice exam before every test(10 questions), about 100 questions. If you can finish all of them before the exam, then you will probably get a good score. If not, then just ready to get retake Math 2. No any extra credit!
She also understanding of international students in the first semester. She tries to actively help in the areas that I'm lacking, and if I use this professor's office hour, I won't have any trouble keeping up with the class. The quiz is available every week, but you can succeed by focusing on class and following your homework well. Good curriculum.
never ever take his class
I wont take her class again, thats so hard!!!
ughhhh soo muchh homeworkkkkkk don't take this class if you want the A. even if it's the very last class open, which it will be. just skip math for the semester and DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS I REPEAT DO NOT
and if you dont believe the reviewsc there are 7 ppl left in my class. from 40 to 7. :D!!
Definitely not an easy class, but thats calc. Valdez has clear expectations and makes you work hard for your grade, practice exams are long & tricky but tests come straight from them, and quizzes every week from the hw. Shes super strict about cell phones and attendance so watch out! If you want to actually learn take her, but its not an easy A.
She made it clear that you had to work hard to earn your grades. Quite a lot homework every week, but its worth. Quizzes every 2weeks, the lowest one will be dropped. Practice tests are quite heavy, exams are based on those so you wont be surprised. Respect is much needed.
I've seen a lot of poor ratings for Professor Valdez but if you are a dedicated student, I wouldn't worry too much about those comments. This professor is so sweet and quick to respond to emails/ questions. You just need to put in the work and you'll b fine.3-4 sections of homework weekly, 1 quiz weekly, tests are very simple, final is cumulative
Overall an amazing professor! Her lectures are very organized and clear, quizzes are based on the homework, and exams are based on practice exams she so generously provides. If you really put forth effort and do the homework and practice exams thoroughly, it will be an easy class.
Prior to this class my understanding of math was minimal. Professor Valdez is truly a TEACHER! The grading and the exams are very fair should you put in the work and do you part as a student. This is not High school so don't expect your hand to be held - if you are ready to learn from an amazing professor I highly recommend her class!
I have followed this professor from community college to community college simply because she is AMAZING! The math skills I have learned in her previous class (Math 2 and Math 147) have been a integral part of my success in her class. She is passionate about what she teaches and her students. I highly recommend her as a professor.
PART 1 ... I transferred to UCLA as an engineering major from IVC & took Valdez's class about a year ago. I wanted to address a few "concerns" students might have - Yes there are weekly quizzes. What do you expect? - Her "100 question" study guides are to help YOU. Tests are very similar to study guides - She does not tolerate lazy students
PART 2 ... Stop complaining because she does not "hand out A's". You should be taking this class to LEARN the subject. Put int the work and you will get the grade you deserve. The same students who are leaving low reviews because there is "too much homework" or she "lectures too fast" are the same ones who want the easy way out. REALITY check ...
PART 3 ... REALITY check, universities only get harder. Profs do not hold your hand. Quarter system is really fast, get ready. Valdez is a great transition from CC to Uni because she makes you work for the grade. If you want to learn she will help you. She will not chase after you, NO prof will. Strive to learn and you will do great in her class.
Deanna is the best math teacher Ive ever taken!! Anyone who has anything bad to say about her is simply lazy and wants things handed to them. Math is a hard subject for a lot of people and Deanna did an amazing job of explaining things thoroughly and all the work she gives is relevant to her exams. She cares so much about her students. Thank you!
Professor Valdez is really Perfect!! Her lecture is pretty clear. If you have questions, just ask her, she will answer with patient. However, she is strict, DON'T play phone or you will be kicked off. The hw is from the book practice, and the quizzes are from the hw, as long as you do hw and ask questions, you will do well. Exams aren't difficult.
She's a wonderful person and great teacher. She really wants to see her students succeed and gives them the tools to do so. Professor Valdez really is fantastic and all the negative reviews are probably from people looking to get easy A's. It's a math class. If you do the homework and review packets, you know what to expect on her tests and quizzes
she's such a sweetheart and really wants her students to do well. she never throws any curveballs on her tests since the questions are based on the study guides she gives you. though she can grade harshly, she makes her expectations clear and is never unfair. homework isn't super heavy and her lectures are really well explained and thorough.
i genuinely do not understand these bad reviews. i'm not kidding when i tell you that i HATED math up until i enrolled in prof valdez's class. she makes math make actual sense and not only does she teach incredibly well, but she actually makes you enjoy the subject. not to mention that she's such a nice person and really cares about your success.
I don't understand the negative reviews here, because she is one of the only professors I have met so far that genuinely cares if you do well in the class. Tests are not easy, but if you finish/study her test reviews, you should get an A. If you put in a good amount of effort into the class, you will get the results you are looking for.
She is very sweet. She cares about her students. She is a great teacher, is a little fast but is very nice about slowing down. She explains concepts really well. She is pretty funny, and engaging. She is super patient with you and is easily reachable outside of class. She is everything you want in a math teacher.
Professor Valdez is a wonderful instructor, and especially so during a time of so much uncertainty. Throughout my semester of Math3A, I felt as if I really understood math again. I really enjoyed her class as she really cares about how her class is comprehending the coursework. This class is not an easy A, if you work hard you can achieve anything!
Professor Valdez is an amazing instructor! I really liked her teaching style and how enthusiastic she was when answering questions. She is also really good at engaging with the class! Do the practice exams and you'll ace the actual exam, no curveballs. Overall, I really enjoyed her class!
Pro. Valdez provides everything you need as a student to succeed in class. She gives practice exams, which contains the questions for the actual exams. If you look at those practice exams at least once before the actual ones, you will receive a good grade. She genuinely cares about her students and helps them to learn. I strongly recommend her! :)
to keep it short, i'm not even in her math class anymore but i STILL refer to her lectures for calc help
Before I took her class, I saw a very good evaluation. When I was in class, I found that the evaluation seemed to be false. Deanna Valdez is completely different from what was written in the review. Her class made me learn nothing. If you are willing to read the earlier comments, those are the real ones.
If you want to actually learn the course material during this time of online learning, take Prof Valdez. Attendance is mandatory, homework is collected, and exams are proctored. She gives really clear and funny lectures/videos, and exams are straight from the study guides so do those. You definitely have to work to earn your grade, so be ready!
Professor Valdez deserves better ratings honestly! I wish I had a professor like her earlier to push me to become a better student. Through her material, I LEARNED HOW TO LEARN. And that's about the best skill you need when you are a student. Keep up to pace with her lectures, spend time on her practice exams, and don't be afraid to ask questions!
Professor Valdez really does care about her students and wants them to succeed, making her one of my favorite IVC professors. She took the time to explain any questions we may have had every single class period. Because the class itself is challenging, you do need to put effort into the class to succeed.
Professor Valdez is great both as a mathematician and a teacher. She's really caring. Calculus 2 is scary and overwhelming math class, however she managed to balance it out by giving the students a practice test with questions that are guaranteed to be in the exams. I had trouble with her lectures but she always had office hours available for me
Fantastic professor; I don't understand why her rating isn't higher. She has an energy and enthusiasm that I haven't felt in a math teacher since elementary school. This class is not an "easy A," but then again its a math class - if a math class is ever an easy A then the material is most likely not being adequately covered.
Although I understand the structure of the class is meant to be asynchronous, I don't think it excuses the sheer volume of homework/classwork assigned. I would spend up to 10+ hours total per week just to do the homework and quizzes. Midterm reviews should never be mandatory but she required it on top of a practice midterm. Total of 146 questions.
She was OKAY. But not great
Tough, an unnecessary amount of extra work that doesn't help your grade like study guides, written assignments, class work when only homework and tests are graded (mostly tests) . Hours of work are worth one point. Also to be frank, its nice she has videos and all, but I think she is a stressful person and honestly, a little harsh as a person.
Valdez is a real gem, dont be scared by people complaining who dont want to do their work. Exams are based straight off of the study guides which she has you do in class for credit. Lots of homework, yes, but honestly if you apply yourself thats how you learn. If you want an easy A look elsewhere but theres no surprises in this class.
Professor Valdez is amazing. Not gonna lie the amount of homework is a lot, but she is really good at explaining, and provides the best study guides. Tests are all from the study guide and she goes through almost all questions in the study guide. Always available through email or office hours.
Such a great professor! Always willing to help when needed, and has a fun attitude. This course requires a lot of time studying outside of the classroom, but it pays off
In her hybrid course, Deanna was phenomenal at applying the lessons from her videos into practice. The homework is really heavy (takes multiple days), but if you watch lectures and focus on perfecting the practice exams, you will ace the class. She is tough on teaching, but easy on grades as long as you can show you really "learned" her content.
Great prof. HW may be long but it will help. She gives out study guides with questions that actually appear similar to the exam. No surprises. She explains things clearly and is awesome. I would highly recommend taking her especially if you want to keep a good GPA.
the class is asynchronous, uses pearson ($89 for the course), and the worst part is she doesn't even lecture. honestly kindda like a coursera except it's credited i guess. i highly suggest using professor monte on youtube if you take her class but if you haven't taken her do NOT take !!!
This class is pretty straightforwardonline homework and quizzes (you can retake quizzes as much as you want to get a better score). One midterm and one final. Professor Valdez is super accessible in online office hours and responds to emails right away. Youre pretty much on your own to learn the material but she helps whenever you need.
Professor Valdez is an amazing teacher and is accessible outside of the classroom. The class is difficult, but she provides the tools to pass her class. It is up to you to put in the work to pass.
Professor Valdez is an excellent professor, she is extremely helpful. She answers emails extremely quickly. I don't understand why professor Valdez is getting bad reviews, you literately do the work and get an A, her exams take questions from practice exams that she gives you before the semester starts. Put in work, and you get an A.
Don't even bother looking at her bad reviews, she is an extraordinary professor. Everything she expects of you is listed out, her lectures are not in class, but it is extremely accessible. You don't even need to look for exam review, she gives you a practice exam that has the questions she uses for the actual exam in them!
Don't let the reviews from online students scare you. Her class in-person is awesome! She's so nice, helpful, and clearly passionate about teaching math. HW is only graded on completion, get it done and focus on the practice test. All test questions are taken from there, sometimes she even does them for us in videos or in class. Recommend!!
Pretty easy class, she uses Pearson & you have online hw & quizzes every week but you can redo your quizzes over and over which is good. There's one midterm & final & all the questions are from the review assignments. She has you use Statcrunch which helps, & the lectures are on Canvas which I didnt realize at first but they help. Take her!!!
Such an easy class! Just keep up with your homework and online lectures and you'll be fine. I'm not even good at math and I have an A. Take her!!!!!!
My favorite professor! She really loves teachingn and it shows. She will push you and gives a lot of HW but the tests are straight from the practice tests so do those and don't miss class. She's funny too. I wish she was teaching calc 3 in the fall :(
I have not had a better math professor. Very well done and clear video lectures with a provided note template done on your own time. Class time is used to answer questions from homework and anything you need help with. Tests questions are pulled from a practice exam she gives you well in advance to study and do in class. This includes the final!
Was a tough class, but Professor Valdez made it clear what she expected on her tests, so that made it a lot easier to do well. Lots of homework, but there's plenty of time to do it + test questions come straight from practice tests. Gives extra credit, will help you if you ask, explains things in a clear and thorough way, and is really nice!
Lengthy homework assignments in exchange for simple to-the-point quizzes and practice exams from the heavens.
Valdez is a very kind and helpful person. She truly wants you to succeed and she provides the tools you need to do so. Her tests are very helpful and easy, but the homework can get very long at times. Overall a great professor.
Took this course over summer, so it was a bit rushed, but Professor Valdez was great. She was quick to respond and kept announcements updated. Her lectures could be a bit long, occasionally I'd get lost, but if you take good notes, you'll be just fine! She really enjoys math and wants to make sure everyone understands the material.
My favorite! She definitely expects you to work hard and assigns a lot of homework, but tests are based straight from the practice exams so just do those. She'll get sassy if you're not doing your work and is really strict, but Valdez is funny and you can tell she wants you to do well. Bummed she's not teaching Calc 3 now. Take her class!
Professor Valdez is without a doubt, the best Math Professor at IVC. She is hilarious, and really easy to understand! As long as you attend her lectures and really engage in her assignments, her tests are a piece of cake. Not that it's cause it's easy, but that's how great she is at teaching her students! Take Professor Valdez. She is a must!
Her study guides are the same as her exams. Do the study guides and its an easy A
She is very kind and loves to answer questions when doing your work, if you ever need help you can alway talk to her and she will find a solution. Her tests are really nice it's basically 8-10 questions from the practice exam just make sure you study it. She appreciates hard work so just make sure you do the homework it'l benefit you a lot trust.
Valdez really cares for her students. Homework is graded for completion, there are weekly quizzes, and exam content is clearly described ahead of time. Her video lectures are a lot of information (it's 3C!) but very clear; she posts all her notes. She is very approachable and always willing to help you. I would 100% take her again given the chance!
Valdez is an amazing professor, she's funny and very caring. Honestly just practice her practice sheet questions that she provides in the beginning of the class to prepare for the test because she selects 10 questions that are exactly like them, just a change of numbers. She's really fun and I always have a blast going to her classes! :)
She is so genuine and caring. This was the first math that I took at IVC. Her lectures are completely clear and what I really like about Professor V is that she is completely organized about the schedule, all the homework and quizzes are opened ahead of time so that you can work on them as many as times you need to take full credit for (%100!).
She was so nice and caring and really helpful when we had class problems. She gives out study guides and it was very similar to our tests. We also had lecture notes to do at home before class. Although, the tests affected everything and heavy loads of paper when it comes to lectures. I would say you can take her but do not recommend it.
Professor Valdez is the BEST professor! Hw is out of the book, there is a solution guide too! Her lectures are enjoyable and she has a great sense of humor! Spend your time on the practice exams they are exactly what you will see on exam day. Check w Prof the in-class problems to make sure u have the proper solution practice without looking @ notes
Prof Valdez IS AMAZING!!!!! The only STEM class I have taken with 0 stress thanks to her! She is caring and provides practice exam that are just like the real exams!
I just took the final and I can say that she is the most caring professor! I would highly recommend!
I wish I took Prof Valdez for Calc 1 too, she is awesome! Don't hesitate and take her!
If you want to get an A know the in-class problems as much as you know your own name! Great professor!
Outstanding math professor, changed my outlook on college mathematics. She's very clear what she's looking for, and her class structure is perfect for someone with other responsibilities. Lectures are watched at home, and in-class, you work on a lot of practice so the concept is drilled into your head. Exams take questions from the review packet.
Valdez! Great teacher, make sure you pace yourself! Quantity of homework is kind of insane for what it's worth. Classwork and HW make 10% of your grade, other 90% is exams (3 chapters exams for 60% and 1 final exam for 30%). DON'T DO YOUR HW LAST MINUTE. And ask questions! Everything is straight from her practice exams. Hilarious and caring!
Do! the! practice! tests! and you'll be good for the semester! Ask questions in and outside of class and she'll help you through them. Her lecture videos are straight to the point. Pay attention in class, do your assignments and you'll be fine. Loved her energy in class, and her enthusiasm in class made calculus manageable.
Professor V is amazing! Video lectures are clear, organized, and concise. Follow the videos, do the homework, and take the practice tests before mid-term and final and you shouldn't have a problem. She lays out everything you need to know and is responsive and cares that you get the material. Definitely recommend!
Professor Valdez is unbeatable in the math department. By far the best teacher that I've had at IVC. She cares about her students and wants them to succeed. If you take her class just do the HW and the practice test. Focus on the in class problems when reviewing and you're good.
Easy A! Her video lectures are easy to follow and she shows you how to do everything with Statcrunch AKA a calculator for statistics and you have the ability to re take quizzes, hw assignments, and practice exams as many times as possible till you get a high score. The midterm and final are also based off of the practice exam questions.
Prof. Valdez goes above and beyond to walk you through the work thats expected in order to pass her course. I would HIGHLY recommend taking her for any of her math courses. She is an exceptional teacher. Do the work early, on time, take the practice exams until you ace them, and watch her lectures, and you'll pass. THANKS to an amazing professor.
Professor Valdez is an incredible instructor, she is very caring and genuine. I love how organized the class is, you have access to all the dates and assignments from the beginning of the semester. She provides practice exams for every test. Do the practice exams, they are great practice for the exam. I recommend taking her class!!
Just respect the prof, show up on time, put effort and you should do well. The homework and practice tests are very comprenhensive and transfer well over to tests. Lessons are very easy to follow.
Professor Valdes is caring energetic and truly loves and enjoys teaching. She wants you to learn and try her best to make the class exams easier than regular ones. Do every practice exam which is a problem that is on the exam but with modification. Watch the online lecture and do the hw. One day go over hw and one day in class and do pratice exam.
Professor Valdez is caring energetic and truly enjoys teaching. Cal3 is hard and she tries her best to make content less difficult and more understandable. She likes to encourage and give good advice. Watch online lectures and plan the hw per day to finish on time. hw is harder than the exam. The exam is modification version of practice exam.
An amazing person all around, Prof Valdez is the type of person I would want to remain friends with outside of class. She makes her expectations clear and gives you everything you need to succeed. She is the reason I learned to love math again. All exam questions are variations of questions she gives you from a practice exam, a clear study guide.
tough grader goes over lessons fast. turns off class average option on canvas because she knows the class average is low. no extra support very rude and everytime anyone has a tiny question during the test she makes you feel bad and yells at you to sit down.
I'm not a math person, Prof V made stats so easy. She has youtube videos and corresponding notes that explain every lesson. She provides many homework examples that you can use. U can retake quizzes and final exams many times. Lots of homework, don't fall behind! 3-4 chapters per week, stay focused but it's possible to succeed!
Professor Valdez is clear cut & straight to the point. Her "in class problems" are exactly like her exams so you'll never be caught off guard. Her lectures are great & she'll go over topics in more detail if you need her to. I highly recommend taking her for a subject like this.
Valdez is honestly a great professor. She gives us a study guide at the beginning of each unit consisting of about 80 questions that would be similar on the exam. To make things better she provided an answer key and would answer any questions that you did not get. Homework was a bit much but it was a good tool for the test.
Professor Valdez is a pretty solid professor. She structures her class with video lectures, in-class practice problems, and tests. Her tests are very approachable and given a good effort to learn the material, you will succeed. I had her for both Calculus 1 and 2.
Valdez really cares for her students. Homework is graded for completion, and exam content is clearly described ahead of time. Her video lectures are a lot of information (it's Calc 3!) but very clear; she posts all her notes. She is very approachable and always willing to help you. I would 100% take her again given the chance!
Professor V is an awesome math professor! Her class was clearly outlined and she is super nice. If you stay on top of your work, ask questions and do the homework/practice exam you'll do great! I would definitely take her class again!
Professor Valdez is great! She is very caring if you actually pay attention and ask questions. Attendance matters because you get points for in-class assignments. LOTS of homework, but manageable. Be prepared to complete her study guides multiple times (test questions come from the study guide) and study a lot for exams, and you will do great!
anyone who left a bad review did not even do the bare minimum to pass. all it takes is to do the practice exam!
Professor Valdez is the best professor I have ever had! I took Math 3B (Calculus 2) and Math 10 (statistics) with her. 10 out of 10!
Ignore all of the bad comments about her. Those people are bad at math and do not spend any effort studying this course. She is very knowledgeable and willing to answer all your questions. Easy exams as long as you keep up all the work in lectures and homework. Be sure to arrive on time for her class as she doesn't like people to be late
Such an amazing professor! If you need to take stats, take it with Professor V. She has amazing lecture videos that pair perfectly with the homework. If you do the homework and review practice exams a few times, you will get a good grade! She is also very sweet and allows a notecard that you can put formulas on for exams!
Super easy stats class, lectures are very clear, homework program can be frustrating, but not hard. Tests come from the homework and small note card is allowed. No memorization needed :)
Her learning style is basically a flipped classroom in which you learn everything by yourself and she goes through a couple of problems in class and then you proceed to do the rest by yourself. Learned absolutely nothing, precalculus is pretty useless though to be fair. Her tests were difficult, she graded extremely harshly, she also is egotistical
Professor V is the absolute best! She's a ray of sunshine and you can tell she loves her job and is very passionate about it. Very caring and hilarious. Her exams are about 10 questions straight out of the sample one she gives containing 60 ish questions. Ignore the bad reviews. She's fairly easy if you put in the effort to do your part.
Professor Valdez is extremely helpful if you have any questions, and goes above and beyond if you want to work ahead. I found that her class was extremely efficient having lectures to watch yourself before using in-class time as additional review and practice. It is clear that she is enthusiastic about the topic and prioritizes students' education.
Don't be late or disruptive. She's pretty strict, almost robot-like but her lectures are very organized and easy to understand and she takes time to answer questions. Keep up with hw and lectures, don't fall behind. Her tests are extremely fair with problems taken directly from hw and prac exams. Put in the effort and you will succeed!
Prof Valdez is the GOAT. She's super nice, caring, and funny. The setup of her class is good; you watch lecture vids and submit notes then do hw, go over it together in class, and then work on assigned problems from the practice exam. Her review assignments are similar to the practice exam and hw so just study from there. Never a boring class!
Professor Valdez is amazing! She's really funny and bright, and she really cares about her students understanding the material and doing well. She has many opportunities for students to practice (take advantage of the videos she makes for extra help!), so you're well prepared for the exams. As long as you put in your effort too you'll do great!
Prof Valdez is an amazing professor! She's super nice and caring and is always willing to help her students. Her lectures are very organized and easy to follow, and her review assignments come directly from the practice exam and hw problems. She offers many opportunities to ask for more help both during class and office hours! A wonderful prof!
If math is going to be important in your career, take valdez. She is a great teacher, and you will walk out with an amazing understanding of calc 2. Most of your grade is 3 test + final; barely any homework, lecture notes done at home. Does place too much emphasis on attendance though.
Don't be disrespectful, this includes talking during lectures and attending class late. Do the practice exams several times, they're similar to the questions you'll see on the exams. Put in the work and ask questions, she will notice and help you if she sees you're genuinely trying. Don't slack off and ask for extra credit, that won't work.
If you're the type that blames the professor instead of taking accountability then take someone else. Don't talk during lectures, show up on time and you'll do just fine. I sucked at math, however, she saw I was genuinely trying my best and would answer my questions without making me feel dumb. She changed my perspective on math completely.
Took calc 2 with her in spring 2023. Super nice and caring. One of my fav professors at IVC. There are 3 exams and a final. Make sure to do the all of the practice test questions because her exams are based on these and the hw. Hw and classwork are only 10% of your grade, the rest are exams. Don't be late to class and don't talk during lectures.
I took this course during the summer, so it was very fast paced. However, her lectures are very clear. I did not have to teach myself. She is an encouraging professor that is always willing to help. Pay very close attention to the practice exams!
My favorite Math professor at IVC. I took her for math 2/pre calc last year and I am still watching her videos to help me in calc 1 and calc 2. Her lectures are clear and only lengthy if they have to be. My class was hybrid so I had to watch the lectures at home but it felt a lot clearer to me since I could tune in at my own speed.
Professor Valdez is great - caring, organized, and passionate. Her exams are fair, based on practice questions. Stay on top of work, and you'll do well. unstuck ai is a helpful study tool too.
Straight up not a good professor, and i'm saying this as someone who got an A in her class. All she does is brag about her degree. Also belittles students who ask questions. I feel like most of these 5 star reviews are artificial
Took Professor Valdez for Calc 2 and now in Diff Eq—love how straightforward the exams are. Not an easy A, but totally fair if you show up (she's strict on attendance), follow along, and practice with the study guide. She explains things clearly and keeps it real—just stay on top of it!
One of the most straightforward and organized online courses ever! You get unlimited quiz retakes, the final isn't cumulative, and you can use StatCrunch on exams. Video lectures walk you through every homework step-by-step—super clear and helpful. Highly recommend for Math 10, especially online.
calculus mommy
Her flipped classroom is the perfect format for DEs. Strict about attendance, doesn't tolerate disrespect, quite fabulous. Exams are straight from HW. Unlike other profs, she's done every problem in the book and only assigns those worth doing. She doesn't make things any harder than they need to be. Be sure to be solid with integration going in.
shorty a baddie
My 3rd class with her (fav math prof). This is the first sem that she teaches DE so she goes kinda easy on us. Flip classroom style (just like her other classes). Exam based on HW. You'll get an A if you put in efforts and practice. She's a baddie and hilarious. I love her!
Love professor Valdez!! She is so kind and sweet, loved hearing abt her stories LOL. Flipped classroom setup, v clear grading guidelines and policies. Assigns regular HW but is reasonable abt the amt of HW assigned. If you put in the effort, you'll succeed in her course!
Professor Valdez is amazing. We watched lectures on the Saturday before the week, then during the class she goes through the problems assigned, ask if we need help, and lets us work on the in-class problems. Differentials is definitely a "plug and chug" course, so do your hw. Test questions are taken straight from the hw, so it should be an easy A
Professor V makes Calc II easy to understand, and it makes the whole class flow well. Class is flipped, and you can leave class early if you do the practice problems early(it's the practice tests). I recommend staying ahead because when it comes to exams, you aren't cramming for the practice tests and homework. Definitely attend OH it really helps.
AMAZING teacher. Thank you Prof. Valdez for all your video lectures and short homework assignments. Her assignments are enough to prepare you for the test and she only picks from the homework + practice questions for test questions. She goes through previous exams on her YT channel that can really help with familiarizing what could be on the test!
GOAT professor. Flipped classroom, homework is literally the test, she doesn't even change the questions, so you should have no trouble getting an A if you understand everything. Accessible outside of class time, i.e. office hours. Super caring and easy to talk to. Take her if you have the chance!
Prof. V is great. I am retaking her for Calc 3. Attend her office hours and complete as many practice problems as possible before class, so you don't miss the deadline. Go to her office hours!! I didn't really need to because her YT videos showed the method to do it. You may have to dig a little bit to find some questions on her YT page.
Prof. V is extraordinarily organized and clear with her methodology and calculations. Calc 2 was a breeze. Apart from putting work yourself, what's expected on the exams is very straightforward (from textbook & practice exam qsts). She has YT videos where she goes through selective homework problems step by step. Although, she might yell at you.
Professor Valdez is an amazing professor. She explains everything so clearly and all of her lectures are also on YouTube so if you are behind you can just watch it there. I took the summer class and it was a very difficult but professor is the only reason I stuck around and was actually able to finish it. Goat of a prof🐐
Professor Valdez uses a flipped classroom, which actually makes class a lot less boring. There's a decent amount of homework and classwork, and she'll definitely call on you, so be ready to participate. But her tests are super fair — they're basically straight from the homework or practice tests. No surprises, just do the work and you'll be fine.
EXTREMELY HEAVY WORKLOAD STRICT RULES NO LATE WORK ACCEPTED The class is listed as in-person, but all of the actual teaching happens online. Attendance and punctuality are enforced very strictly — even being a few minutes late means waiting 15–20 minutes outside before someone lets you in.
Took Professor Valdez for Calc 2 and wish I'd had her for Calc 1! She's picky about notation (in a good way) and hilarious in class. Her YouTube vids are better than the tutoring center. Super helpful in office hours, and her tests come straight from homework and practice exams—very fair and organized!
Easiest Calc 3 class ever. Mandatory HWs and attendance. Test heavy but all tests are taken from her practice tests. I took her for Summer in person course and all of her tests were pretty much copy pasted from her old tests which she posted on her YT channel. A lot of extra credit offered. Ended with over 100%. She is kind and is willing to help.
Somehow made math not so bad. Thanks Ms V
Extremely heavy workload. The professor doesn't actually teach in class—you must watch her monetized YouTube videos beforehand and then spend class time doing graded problem-solving. Attendance is mandatory, but you end up teaching yourself all the material since she relies entirely on her videos instead of real instruction.
OMG, take Stats online with Professor Valdez! The videos make everything super easy to follow and the tests were literally from the review. You do have to come on campus for midterm + final, but they're chill and you can use a note card and a calculator and ststcrunch.
Professor Deanna is the sweetest most caring professor who wants you to succeed!!! In my opinion that's very important. She has the most helpful videos with examples from her homework. Overall would 100% take more classes with her!
Brace yourself: this class is 90% homework, 10% “good luck.” No real teaching—just nonstop book problems. You learn everything from her YouTube, do piles of homework at home, then come to class for even more. Whatever you don't finish becomes extra homework. If you like self-teaching, this is your Olympics.
I took her 3C class over summer and it is one of the best classes I've ever taken. She's always energetic. If I could take her class again, I'd do it 100%. As long as you do all the homework problems, practice final and be thorough with them, you should get an A. She posts videos online which is so useful bcs of her great 3D pics.
Flipped classroom was very boring and a bigger time commitment than a normal class. Not very flexible, though she is accessible for office hours👍. Very procedural style (though some of it is just how diff eqs are). P.S. It seemed like she claimed 0.999... is not equal to 1, but that was a quick comment made in passing so maybe she didn't mean it.
Flipped classroom with VERY clear and easy to follow lecture videos that you're required to watch every week. Don't be lazy, all the negative reviews says more about the students than about the prof. Her exams are fairly easy (comes straight out the HW!). Prof V is also super accessible outside of class in her OH. Always appreciates participation!
Professor V is definitely the best math teacher I've had. Obviously, the class isn't the easiest, but it's expected since it's Calculus 3. The flipped lecture system is EXTREMELY beneficial if you just put in the effort. You also have so many resources at your disposal from her YouTube channel. You'll fs get a good grade if you just do the work.
I have taken Prof V for most of my math classes and she's honestly top notch. The flipped classroom helped me so much and although the homework can be tedious thats just how DEs is. She really takes the time to make sure you understand what you're doing. Imo shes better than all the other profs at IVC and Saddleback
Last semester I signed up for 4A with another professor who did traditional lectures, but dropped early on cause it just didn't work for me. Professor Valdez's flipped classroom format really clicked with me and kept me accountable to actually doing the work and knowing my stuff, spending class time actively practicing instead of just zoning out.
Calc 3 is hard, but the way she teaches makes it feel so much easier and fun. She doesn't take disrespect lightly and she's very fair. If you grind the practice exams, the reviews she hands out and the hw you will get a good grade. She always helps you out, even if the question is dumb.
Made math enjoyable, shes hilarious, crazy smart and beautiful
I am failed this class before with another teacher and I have to say this teacher is amazing. I did not get an A but I tried my best. She was not the problem. Follow her lectures and do your homework. I would take her again. Math is not my best subject.
Super nice lady, funny too. Her video lectures weren't very helpful, but once she went over the material in class it made more sense. Tests are a huge part of the grade, but the questions on them are largely based on the homework and practice tests, so study those and it won't be so hard. She is able to make a normally a tough class way more fun.
Math 3B is hard, but she makes it easy to understand. She's really good at explaining concepts, and I went to her office hours all the time she was always super helpful. Overall, she's a great professor who truly cares about her students, and she's also hilarious. I'm already enrolled in her Differential Equations class!
Flipped class means you have to watch her yt videos instead of her actually teaching, takes twice as long, and she won't answer your questions half the time, she'll jus tell you to watch her other videos. Mandatory attendance and shes mad passive aggressive. Writes her own reviews (y do u think 5 are from the same day) and cares more abt yt than us
Either you like flipped or you don't, but grinding out practice problems was the only way I passed this class. Prof is mad chill if you put in the work, honestly sad to see npcs downvoting every positive review just cause they can't imagine actually trying. Find god smh
