This teacher inspired me to become a better writer. She is so helpful , so generous , and gives studnets extra time for their essays ( which is a huge percentage of your grade). If you want a class that is upbeat fun , not a drag i would recommend this

Second course with this instructor. Found her as helpful second time as she was for course #1. Course is well laid out so I could work as fast as I wanted (hybrid course but I went to almost every session as I found disucssions helpful & meeting with her even more help.) Earned an A. (She took me from an average writer to a good one.)

Much more interesting than I thought it would be. Good readings, discussion, rubrics to help with essay development. Comments on essays helped me most of all. Goes out of way to meet with students, including the online ones. Very dry sense of humor makes class even more interesting. Worth taking the class just to experience her teaching style.

Good course & instructor. Didn't need much help but it was there when I needed it. Papers were quickly graded and comments helped.

Tell her the grade you want and then be prepared to do what she suggests to get it. Very sharp instructor. Many ideas, interesting, funny and an amazing writer. Loves the obsurd. Hint: She has a built in BS detector.

Took this class in winter and made it through. Might not do it every again. Course and instructor were great. However, to pass with an A required giving up most of my free time (and I was in class 16 hrs. a week for almost four weeks.) Glad I did it do not think I could have done it without Dr. Byerly.

Great teacher and interesting course. In Winter 14 weeks are crunched into 4. She managed to help most of us do it and get and A or B. We spent 16 hrs a week in class and she spent at least Two more each day, just helping students. Not sure how she did it, but we all survived.

Liked taking the course online. It was easy to understand. She also had regular meetings where students could come and share ideas with others in the class, or just talk with her. She is very helpful and is easy to follow.

Ttook her online ENG 102 course but she let me come to her regular class when I wanted to sit in on the discussion or wanted a peer review. Very well taught and very good course. Would take both again.

I am taking this course online and I wish I had waited and taken the course in the fall. I took Eng 052 from her in spring. I liked her. I like here now. She told me I should wait and not take Eng 101 in the short summer sessions. I wish I would have listened. This class is too fast for me. She has to spend a lot of time helping me.

I took an online course from her. I like it very much. I was told I should not take an online class. I guess I was luck because I really like it. Maybe it was the teacher. She is good and she is very helpful.

Took her face-to-face course. (Need teacher's feedback.) She is very good. Has a passion for teaching and awesome strategies to help students. Greatest strength is helping students improve thinking as a way to improve writing. (She defines writing as thinking on paper.) Definitely a thinking person's teacher. Will take ENG 102 from her, too

I cannot believe what I just did. I finished ENG 101, online and a short course and think I am getting an A, or at least a B. I will never do this again. Only way I was able to do it is because of the teacher, who met with me when I needed help and always gave good guidance. If you want to survive such a course. Take Professor Byerly.

I took her online 5 week course. I had to meet with her and I am glad I did. It made all the difference. She can explain things very well. I passed the course with an A, but I had to work every day for five weeks.

She is a good teacher. If you take her online, be sure and go see her, at least once. It will give her a chance to get to know you Once she does, she can really help you.

Dr. Byerly is a good teacher who knows how to teach writing. She tends to spend more time with those who need help but she will help if you ask. Great class discussions and she knows how to make class interesting.

Best part of the class, the discussions. Good choice of readings and really liked the fact the instructor encouraged us to "think outside the box." She encourages a variety of opinions and nurtures them. Interesting and fun.

I am so glad I took this instructor. I looked forward to every class. You can still pass her course, even if you do not want to work hard. However, if you want to do well, she will help you.

One of the best, if not the best teacher I ever had. Learned quite a bit from her and really liked her teaching style a lot. I wish more teachers were like her. I am taking ENG 102 from her in the spring. I like the way she lets students know what they need to do and then helps them do it. My class loved her.

I was home between semesters and decided to take ENG 102. Fast paced course from one of the best teachers I have ever had. Enjoyed the class and managed to earn an A in three very jam packed weeks.

She is a very patient and kind teacher. Gives positive feedback first and then makes sure you never repeat the same mistake. I could have earned an A but did not have the time to go over my writing like she suggested. Still, highly recommend her and will take another class. She makes it interesting.

One of the very best professor's I have ever had. She is extremely nice. She will help you get the grade you want. Took her for English 101 and I'm taking her for English 102. love the books she uses and her flexibility. Makes English interesting.

Take her only if you want to improve your writing and have some fun doing it. Third class with her. Like the discussions and the fact course is posted and I can work at my own pace. If you listen to her, you won't have a problem. Even if you do not, she will find a way to help you.

Will take her for ENG 102. If you have a brain cell left and come to class and engage in discussion, her class easy and it is interesting. She encourages "thinking" which is hard for some people.

The praise given is well deserved. A rare teacher enjoys students and finding a way to help everyone succeed. Also has a talent for engaging students in discussion and creating interest. Class always well attended. Not hard to do well and she will tell you how and then help you do it. Will take her for every class I can.

Loved the class. After basic instruction instructor set up course so students who wanted more help could work in small groups with instructor or those who did not, could work on-line or in groups of choice. I got a B and I am thrilled. It is my first B in ENglish, ever. She worked so hard with me and she made me like English. She also gave me lots of great writing tips and even picked out great books for me to read.

Dr. Byerly is one of the most fun and enjoyable teachers I have ever had and I learned so much. The books she chooses are amazing. I always find myself looking forward to the next class. Even if you don't like to read or write, take her class. By the end of the first week you will.

Took this course on another campus. Did not learn anything. Needed an A for nursing school. Thought it would be easy. It was but only because everything about it was enjoyable and so very helpful. Learned how to be successful as well as how to improve my writing. Every course should be this interesting.

So much more than I expected. Took it this summer and though I would breeze through. Well, I did but I had to stop and think along the way. The reading was interesting and thought provoking and the assignments were great. Took more time than I thought but it was ever so worth it. Am taking her next course.

Teacher is one of the most patient, kind, flexible teachers ever. Plus, she knows her stuff. Did not think I would like the course, but I did. Not hard and directions are easy to follow. Plus, she allows revision. Big on correcting mistakes (hers and letting students correct theirs).

Enjoyed the course and the instructor. When I needed her help she met with me and even allowed me to attend her face-to-face section. Fun and enjoyable experience. Great books to read and discuss, too.

Dr. Byerly goes out of her way to help all students. Read the comment below mine and could not believe the person was talking about the same teacher I experienced. I have taken three of her classes and found her to be kind, fair, and very inspirational. Just guess you cannot please everyone. P.S. I am African American, too.

The only thing hard about Dr. Byerly's courses are having to think. A most unusual teacher who made my head hurt from thinking.. Very kind and very fair and very funny, at times. She wanted me to succeed more than I did.

Just finished an incomplete with this instructor. She helped me complete the course after it ended. (I was in an accident right before the end of the semester and had my research paper to do.) Dr. Byerly met with me even though she did not have to. She is full of ideas and the experience turned out to give me a friend as well.

Great experience, great readings, and good discussion. Anyone that thinks her tests are hard isn't paying attention. She allows you to write an evaluation of the course using an essay format. Hip, too!

Our class loved Dr. Byerly and I know plenty of students who did not attend every session, for one reason or another and did very well. She gave us 3 free absences (that's 3 weeks of class since her classes only meet 1x a week). Spends extra time trying to make sure students do well. Love her readings, discussion and ideas in general.

When my incomplete (due to problem with pregnancy) changed to an F by CCBC, Dr. Byerly called me and offered to help me finish it. She is kind and she cares. Maybe the best teacher I have ever had.

She was funny and fun. Told us what we had to do and then helped us do it. I wish I had known what she helped me learn in high school. I can now write much better.

Learned more from her than I did all through high school. She knows how to teach writing. One thing for sure -- do what she tells you and you will not only pass with an A, you will know how to write well.

Wonderful teacher! Spends time making sure everyone in class understands what needs to be done for an assignment. Goes over grades with you and allows you to make revisions. Also funny, fun, and very kind. Works with you if you have to miss. Not sure who would think she is a tough grader or that if you skip class you will not pass.

She is NOT ONLY GOOD she is GREAT! I love Dr. Byerly. She is kind and caring and does just about anything to help me and other succeed. I think is is also very very fun and funny too. I wish she would teach more classes. I would be in every one.

This class was easy for those who followed the outline and asked questions. Also fun. She is kind and caring & tried to allow for everyone's learning style. Not always easy when she has to repeat herself. However, her sense of humor and the fact she is interesting saved the day.

Already signed up to take another class from this instructor. I really enjoyed the discussions and the way she sets them up to make students think. Her course is not hard if you stick with it and don't put the assignments off. A side benefit is her sense of humor while you learn to improve your writing and your life.

I think Dr. Byerly is the best teacher I have ever had. She knows how help students understand what to do to write a good essay. I got a B and it is the first one ever. A friend of mine in another class did not learn as much as I did. I not only took her for English 052, I took her for English 101.

I learned so much more than I expected. She is not only a very kind and caring person, she is very smart lady who is fun and has a very dry wit. I looked forward to every class. I will take her again.

Ms. Byerly is a sweet woman. She expects students to do what she has outlined in the syllabus, but that's not always clear. She was also somewhat forgetful. I felt the class focused too much on actual writing vs. formation of papers. This is an English 101 class, but I felt like it was 102. Attendance and participation are a must. Class was ok.

Enjoyed Dr. Byerly and very much appreciated her open style. Assignments encouraged creative thinking. She had us do more formal writing as the semester progressed. I liked the fact she then worked with us to improve our research and writing. She definitely knows how to help students improve writing.

If you like fun discussions on assigned readings and understand subtle humor, you will really enjoy this very kind and caring teacher. The only students who do not seem to enjoy her class are those who never bother coming to class ready for discussion, debate, or whatever she comes up with to make the topic more interesting. Absolutely loved her class. Wish I could take another class from her. If you work with her, and let her help you, you are guaranteed at least a B and most likely an A.

Dr. Byerly is a good teacher. I took her 14 week class in 7 weeks. She did cut the work and tried very hard to make it possible for us to meet the ENG 101 requirements. She spent extra time with me on phone. (My sister took ENG 101 in the full semester and had I taken that class,it would have been less time consuming.)

Expected to work hard since course was a 14 wk one crunched into 7 wks. Did not work as hard as should have. Still learned alot. Thanks to Dr. Byerly for the help given on the phone, online, and through a well laid out class with flexible deadlines. I know I should not have taken this class but I am glad I did. Highly recommend this instructor.

Online class, so yeah, you do have to show up but Dr. Byerly is the best teacher on the planet. Makes sure students know what to do and how to do it. Accessible about 22 hrs. a day, I think. Goes out of her way to help and she cares. Also, very interesting & funny. Sticks with you and makes learning fun and makes sure you finish the course.

Took the class for the second time. (Failed with another teacher.) Now finishing an incomplete with lots of help from instructor. She is patient and understanding. Has many tips and constructive feedback. Could not have completed course without her.

Did a dumb thing & took ENG winter semester (14 wk course in 3. Had to take an incomplete. If I had taken 14 wk course might not have found it so hard. Dr. Byerly really helped me get through the course. She is an amazing teacher. Recommend her especially for a short course. Listen to her & you will get through even in 3 wks (I did with a B)

It was an online class and she was available almost all the time I needed her. I took an incomplete so I did have to be patient but she worked with me and tried to help me in every way she could. Really liked the fact that she cared so much. Also liked that she knows her stuff.

Even though I got an incomplete in the class (just finished), she spent extra time helping me finish. (The incomplete was due to an auto accident.) Love d her assignments and think she is an amazing teacher.
