Tests are a little hard, sometimes her stats/calculations are wrong...tons of notes
She's friendly, organized, and always well prepared for lectures. She's extremely knowledgeable and passionate about subject material. However, her tests are really tricky. Attending lectures is a must.
Great teacher with a great fashion sense and body to go with it
i dont care if shes not a good teacher...shes hot
very hard. but you will learn a lot. she is very organized. hates when people come in late, or talk in her class. i have had her for two classes, i think that she is one of the best at BU, although she could have done a better job picking her husband
By far, the best Psych professor this school has got. One of the few that actually speak fluent English AND can teach. Possibly one of the best professors in the entire school.
I just dont like stats.
stingy with partial credit on exams, but who cares b/c she is hot
Her lectures are clear and understable. I like how she use powerpoint to show the notes instead of dictating it..
Very organized and prepared during lecture. Her exams are fair. She incoporates a lot of outside knowledge into the lecture and shows a lot of enthusiasm for the subject matter.
She was a great professor and everything she taught I understood, and I even remember the stats stuff now that I have to use it again for research projects. Definitely a good professor to have.
I had her three years ago, and I still remember her, definitely means shes a great professor. Didnt need to read the book, everything was from her lecture.
always prepared. nice. organized class. fair exams. helpful.
She's a very good teacher, good class, interesting and understandable.. BUT, as a person she sucks; not very friendly, rather cynical and sarcastic. Her and her husband make a perfect match!
She made Psych Stats a breeze. She's a great teacher and also doing really cool research.
Straightforward, helpful, pretty easy, and the hottest teacher ive ever had
So nice, so helpful and so hot
Easy lectures, but an evil woman.
likes to give optional finals but does not drop lowest grade
This was a really good class thanks to the professor. She was very helpful and nice. I thought I was going to hate it, but it ended up being my favorite class last semester.
This class was required for my major, but i am really glad that I took it. She is a really good instructor and makes diffficult material seem very concrete and understandable.
she's mean period
She was very helpful and her teaching style is easy to understand
mean person, class was very difficult
she's hot
very clear, understandable
An excellent teacher and a nice lady. One of the few instructors at this institution with a PhD who has yet to let those three letters go to her head. A piece of advice: Do not talk in class - it won't be tolerated.
great
a nice teacher, very clear and easy to understand.
if you dont do well in this class its not because of her, maybe your dumb, i dunno. By far the easiest class i have every taken in college, maybe even highschool. if u dont do well, consider going to a community college or repeating the fourth grade.
she's really nice and helpful. gives really good notes and her tests are straightforward.
Her notes are clear but thats about it.She's not much help besides that. No curves, no dropping, no sympathy.Im not her biggest fan.If your good with math then you should be fine..if your not the best math student then start praying cause she won't help
Westerman wasnt necessarily the nicest, but it is the easiest class i have ever taken. The math is simple addition. if you dont get it, its you, not the material.
Great teacher. Lecture notes are very helpful, no need to read the text. Tests are fair. She can be rude but shes only rude to disruptive people in class which is understandable.
Deanne Westerman. Very cute. DO IT
i am mad dumb in math so i got a b+ i so pissed that is a class to get an A all the ways
Pretty easy, but sometimes fails to explain how material applies to the large scope of things or fits into general context. Just ask, though, she is very responsive to questions and is glad to reword a concept that you're not grasping. Otherwise a pretty easy class if you go to lecture.
prof westerman's class is pretty tough and you need to be able to apply a lot of time an dedication to it. its true she doesnt drop or curve, but shes easy to talk to and very helpful with study hints, making up exams and caring. she wants her students to pass and tries to help them in any way.
This class is really easy. There are 3 tests and a final. The tests are really easy if you study her notes. You dont even need to look at the text book. There's no attendance.
Not understandable
EASIEST CLASS EVER! She's so clear and her class notes are amazing, she tells you everything you need to knwo before an exam. I never did any of the hmwk, I just studied the day before each exam and got an A.
I definitely didn't find this class easy, but the prof is very good and helpful. I went to every class and I am getting a B-.
I really enjoyed this class and I can not say that about any other math class that I have taken. Westerman made the subject interesting and she was very helpful and approachable outside of class. One of the best profs at BU.
A lovely person.
She is awesome. As long as you go to lectures you are fine. You don't need the textbook at all. She even gives you the equations on the test. She makes the material very understandable and also she is absolutley gorgeous.
i didn't think she was a very good professor. she wasn't bad, just not very helpful and her lectures were difficult to follow (esp. at 830 am). i would have liked the textbook to be useful, but it wasn't. check out the other stats professors if you can.
so hot. great teacher
talks fast and u need to copy projector notes fast but teaches it well in and understandable way. fair tests which she gives study guide before hand for and equations during the test. nice. highly recommended.
talks too fast. doesnt post notes on blackboard. good textbook. def possbile to get an a.
She knows her stuff... but that class was at 8:30 so it was hard not to fall asleep
She makes statistics clear and easy. Attend lecture for a good grade.
The subject matter is not too hard for a math course and she is great at explaining it. It stinks that it is an 8:30 and her tests are tricky, but she is a good professor overall.
She is a great professor! She is very helpful, gives very clear notes, is easy to talk to and makes the class interesting. I wish I could take her for all my psych classes! I highly recommend her!!
Ah, I remember this lovely, fine lady who's research area is memory and graduated from a top university. Compared to my other teachers, she is so much better. Material is very basic. "talks to fast" is a minor cry. Some of my other teachers were HORRIBLE. "hard not to fall asleep" is not relevant to her being a better teacher than the rest.
Very clear, gives study guides, and really wants students to understand the material, great teacher.
Class is easy if you GO to class, DO the homework, and occasionally read the book. If you are good at math, or have any sort of background about it, GREAT class. Very very nice woman and wants everyone to do well. Very clear with her notes in class. Easy A.
She's funny and quirky, and an overall great professor. This is going to be a dry class no matter how you see it. She does teach at a lower level that the tricky and detailed wording of her questioning on exams though. Very approachable and funny.
Easy at first but gets harder. She talks wayyy too quickly and never stops to take a breath. I thought she was a nice persin but an AWFUL teacher. She never answered my e-mails or called on me in class. Plus, the class was only offered at 8:30. Don't take this in your first semester! It killed me!
easy A if you go to class.
She is excellent as a stats prof. One of the best profs I've had at BU even tho the subject matter is pretty dull. She is funny and a nice person.
Westerman is an amazing professor. Very helpful despite the class being so big. Stats is difficult for a lot of people and she realizes that. If you don't get it, it really isn't her fault, sorry. She just seems to be a normal person, which is not true for most professors! Very knowledgeable. Completely recommend her!
best teacher i ever had. She's really fair, and explains things really well in class. Tests are easy just wants to see if you know the material
Shes a sexy smart stats professor who calls people out on their bullcrap. Hilarious and easy class
Definitely a great teacher. She is kind, straightforward, and intelligent. If you go to class and do the homework that she assigns you'll definitely be good.
The class is generally straight forward. She doesn't put the slides online so its in your best interest to go to class all though it can be boring at times. The textbook is slightly useless because the class is not based on it. Do the homeworks and understand the concepts and you should do well.
Very nice, very down to earth. Can make a few mistakes but is very quick to correct herself. Seems genuinely interested in teaching a wholesome class. Organized, paces well. Lectures can get a little boring, but hey, it's statistics and it's like that in every class.
Very nice and easy to understand. Class centers around taking notes off her slides. Boring class, but I don't find stats interesting. If you show up every day and do practice problems she assigns in the book you'll do great.
I ended up with an A in the course, but did not think this course was easy at all. Most of the multiple choice tends to derive from conceptual overviews, which can sometimes be easy to miss if you're not keeping up with the work. Take good notes, and KNOW THE CHAPTER. Make sure you also practice whatever she posts on blackboard!
Really awesome teacher. Makes sure every detail is explained. Although the material itself can be quite boring, meaning the class doesn't ask a lot of questions, she navigates through the lessons smoothly so everything is covered. Very kind but not excessively lenient. Responds to emails promptly. Is understanding and down to earth. would recomm
Dull subject but she makes it pretty easy to comprehend and follow along. Steps are explained clearly and with strong examples, and as long as you know how to go through the pattern, the tests are manageable. Not extremely personable but she made a boring class tolerable, and you have to give her credit for that.
Honestly, I know I'm not very good at mathematical subjects, but Westerman isn't all that clear all the time, her slides contain numerous mistakes, and an 8:30AM class doesn't help much.
She is awesome and so is her class! Her upbeat personality makes attending class at 8:30 am worth it. She has occasional errors in her pwp notes, but nothing major. ATTEND CLASS because she presents the notes in a clear, helpful fashion that trumps the textbook. If you put in effort, this class is easy to do well in!
Dr. Westerman is one of the best professors at Binghamton. I HATED statistics prior to her class but she presented it in a way that I could finally understand and was semi-interesting. Tests can be tricky as they ask really in depth questions but if you attend class and read the book you should do fine.
The way she grades makes it extraordinarily hard to get an A. Average your 4 exam grades and that's your grade. No homework, no quizzes, no extra credit, no dropped test. Despite that, she is a very good teacher and she gives a lot of example problems during lecture. GO TO CLASS, it is very helpful for the exams! The textbook is helpful also.
She doesnt curve grades or give any extra credit or quizzes so doing well on the 4 exams is a must. She gives examples in class that are great for practice. Got to the lectures and take notes theyre really helpful. Some of the multiple choice is tricky but overall a good class and great teacher
Very good at explaining material. She gave us 4 tests including the final. No participation or homework grades which isn’t great because you can't boost your grade. No curve but you won't need it so don't stress homework will help you study. Don't rush her tests and make careless mistakes take your time tests are not that hard.
I took an independent study with Dr. Westerman after taking her Psyc stats course. All I can say is what a wonderful woman. She's brilliant, but is completely down to Earth. She's genuinely kind and cares about her students. Always checked in with me to see where I was at in life. Take ANY class with her. She's more than helpful. Incredible person.
Very unforgiving grader and it's really easy to fall behind in the course so you need to attend lectures every day and take extensive notes. She's very smart, but she doesn't explain the concepts well which is bad because they're really important for success in every other upper level psych course you may take.
If you take this class, please take it with Dr. Westerman! It may not be the most interesting material, but Dr. Westerman explains things very well, and keep it entertaining. She doesn't take attendance, but her lecture slides aren't posted online, so you really should go to class. If you pay attention and do the HW, the class is very fair.
only take this class if you are a good test taker. All tests are worth 25% of your grades. and no Extracredit or HW is offered to help average out or boost your grade.
Unforgiving. Its really B.S. that no extra credit or homework are offered to help with the grade. Also she has a stank attitude. It sucks that if you mess up on 1 exam you are screwed. There is no chance for redemption. Ever. Dont take her.
Tough class, especially if you have no background in stats. Grade is based off of 4 tests only, no help from homework or quizzes. Also no curve or dropped tests. She's unforgiving, I would take with a different professor.
She really tries to make an boring class interesting. It wasn't too bad, definitely go to class! If you go to class, you don't really need to read the textbook. Do practice problems! Her multiple choice is a little tricky sometimes.
Great teacher. Class can be tough sometimes but she breaks it down so you can understand the basics. Go to class and read the textbook inside out. Tests aren't too bad if you prepare well.
Deanne is a professor who genuinely cares for the subject and for teaching. Her grading criteria is not that great, literally 100% of your grade is tests, so every point on them counts, one mistake, and it can change your grade.
This class is tough and she is not lenient. She only grades by tests and is very unforgiving when you make a mistake. She will tell you to drop the course if you're not doing well and that's discouraging, instead of having her say something to make you try harder to pass. Her wording on her tests can throw you off they're lengthy.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Professor Westerman actually cares about her students and WANTS to see them succeed. She is very nice, but if you fail an exam it's unforgiving bc there's no drops. That shouldn't happen if you go to lecture because material is not hard at all. Textbook can help to clear things, but don't rely on it. Go. to. Class.!
Dr. Westerman really does a good job at making a boring subject not that bad. Her lectures are good so you don't end up having to read the textbook. Tests sometimes have tricky questions but overall they're easy if you study. Need to ace every test to get an A. Going to lecture is your best bet to an A!
Nice lady. She tries to make the subject material interesting. She makes a good amount of typos in the slides. I worked hard but her tests were kinda annoying and having 4 tests all worth 25% isn't the most ideal grading system. All in all a good stats teacher but I would try to take with Morrissey. I got a B
Thought this class would be an easy A but it wasn't. I studied my ass off for her exams, but I got a B- in the class. She's a good professor though.
She gives you a grade only based on 4 tests. Her third test is the hardest and if you mess up on one, it can really hurt your grade. I started off with an A- after my first two tests and dropped to a B. Go to class and do the practice problems she posts online and you should do okay. Her slides are very clear and well organized. Overall great prof!
As somebody who was awful in math in high school, I wasn't sure how I would do in her class. I had no stats before. She definitely made stats so much easier and tried to make lectures as fun as possible. She's clear with her grading and her tests aren't meant to trick you. Go to class and study the practice material and her tests will be passable.
I took her for Human Memory because people said she was really good in 243..... Well this was her first time teaching the class and it is horrible. I'm doing well in the class but she just can't teach the material well. You're better off just not even paying attention reading the book and studying the power point.
I took psyc stats with her first, loved her & knew I'd be taking her Human Memory course. She makes lectures very interesting with demonstrations, and she makes it easy to understand. There were weekly quizzes, so you did have to go to lecture and you must read what is assigned to do well. Didn't take too much effort to do well though! shes great
Honestly confused why it is people have such good things to say about this professor. She is rude and cold. Seems like one of those teachers who has nothing better to do with their lives than teach lectures. Likes her power and her ability to smile while still making you feel inferior is creepy.
I'm currently taking this class, and by far she seems basic as a teacher. When teaching she seems flustered the whole time, and it seems rushed. Sit next to a good friend and be sure to work together because she doesn't do a great job at explaining things. Her class is test based and her questions are made to trick you. Easy concepts, tricky tests.
The class itself is relatively easy if you can do basic math. She's a decent professor, but has a hard time answering questions. However when she is going through the power points she makes it pretty easy to understand, then again the concept are pretty self explanatory. The tests are easy, but you might often make simple mistakes on them.
No idea why anyone has anything good to say about this professor. She has no ability to answer questions, teaches straight off the slides (which she doesn't post online), says dumb things and makes a lot of typos. Whole grade is based off of tests, which are much harder than the material should be. Do not take with this professor!!
Professor Westerman is very kind and wants students to succeed in her class; however, the class was very flustered and in the end was rushed due to spending too much time trying to answer questions
Professor Westerman is extremely knowledgeable and cares about her students and their grades. I would 100% take a class with her again!
Although stats is extremely boring and dry, she tried her best to make it more interesting and fun for everyone involved. I did not like her grading system using 4 tests with no dropped score to determine your grade. You have to keep your test grades impeccable to get an A! I slipped up on the first exam and was only able to get an A- in the class.
Great Professor, one of the best at Binghamton. I highly recommend taking this class as it is a relatively light course load. The structure is 12 quizzes (2 drops) and it is very manageable. Professor Westerman really knows her material and does a great job educating the class, and making her points clear.
She's great, she's receptive to questions, she knows her stuff and, most importantly, she knows how to teach it. The class is pretty easy, just 12 quizzes, 2 dropped, and if you show up, skim the textbook, watch the videos, and listen, there should be no problem getting at least an A-. If you need a psych/neuro credit, take memory.
She is great!! Took human memory with her and really enjoyed the class. It was easy and she made the lectures interesting.
She is an excellent lecturer who is able to keep the class constantly engaged and interested in the material. She brings a lot of experience from the field and has interesting demonstrations. There are 12 quizzes, 2 dropped, which are not too hard but are very short so it can be easy to get a lower grade then one may desire.
She is a fantastic lecturer and does her best to make a subject as dry as statistics bearable. Very receptive to questions and one of the few professors at Bing who is honest about what is on the test. I don't like how the class is based entirely on 4 tests but all the exams are relatively straightforward and an A is doable.
I really enjoyed Dr. Westerman's lectures! Her class was engaging and she did a great job of breaking down formulas into clear, understandable steps. The tests are fair, but I do wish our grades were based on more than just the tests alone.
Prof Westerman was truly amazing. She made statistics relatable and fun (woah) but is also very efficient at getting stuff done while not powering through lectures too quickly. Your grade is based on 4 exams and doing the homework is not mandatory but will definitely help you understand the concepts even more. Wish everyone could have her!
A great professor, managed to keep all of us engaged for an admittedly dry subject. Attendance isn't checked but I'd recommend going as often as you can- we did a lot of practice problems and working through the steps with her helps a lot. The grading is rough (4 tests work 100pts each), and one slip up can keep you from an A.
Professor Westerman was my favorite professor so far that I have had at Binghamton. She cares about her students. You need to work for your grades and make sure you are on top of your stuff by reading. The class is based on 4 tests. Not cumulative. She is readily available outside of class and wants her students to succeed. Very nice woman.
I found this class to be quite easy and boring, but Westerman does her best to make the class interesting. I highly recommend attending every lecture and taking notes rather than relying on the textbook because she gives you all the information you need during lecture. She thoroughly explains all the material and does many examples.
If you attend lectures and do the homework, this class is an easy A. She really simplifies the material and teaches it thoroughly, so go to class. It's pretty boring but it's worth it. You don't need to read the textbook, but the homework in it is helpful. The grade consists of 4 equally weighted tests.
I never did the homework assignments, only studied before the tests, but I am an auditory learner, so without the lectures, I would have failed. Only grades are the tests (4 in my case). As long as you do practice problems and for the most part understand the material, you'll be fine.
She is really caring of her students, and her lectures are not boring. Just the material of psych 243 is a lot, that this class covers a lot of things in a short period of time, but the professor is great!
Deanne is a great statistics professor. She's really well-versed on the subject. Her slides have many errors but outside of that, the class isn't insane. The grading is tough (4 tests, 25% each) with a 93.5 being an A. As long as you go to lecture and thoroughly read her notes before a test, you'll be golden. The textbook is NOT necessary at all.
grade is out of 400-4 tests only don't skip class, she doesn't post the notes do the homework or else you won't do well no extra credit really... :/ great prof tho!
The worst and rudest professor I've ever encountered at Bing. She acts all nice and caring but really could not care less about the well beings of her students. We need a whole lot of more genuine professors and less teachers like her in the university
Your grade is only based on the mean of the 4 exams, and you must take all exams seriously bc there r no drops or curves. She is very nice and her lectures r very useful, she breaks everything down nicely, so show up to class. You have to put in effort to get a good grade so u must do all the hw (not graded), practice exams, and txtbook questions
Professor Westerman is one of the best professors on campus and she really cares about her students. I would advise that everyone to attend class for a better understanding on the topics because her notes are very clear compared to the textbook. Do use the textbook for conceptual understanding and homework problems to better prepare for the exams.
Dr. Westerman is one of the best teachers I've taken for a math course given that I am not good at math. Her notes are really clear and problems are done step by step. I studied the night before for every exam and managed to get a range from 85-96. Study the problems (mainly the steps) and read her notes and you'll do fine :) Go to class--it helps!
Lecture isn't mandatory but you should definitely go bc she doesn't post notes online. Her tests are short and mostly multiple choice which were unnecessarily tricky (get 4 wrong ur down to the 80s range) & she only grades based on 4 tests. She's accessible for lecture material but won't help/can be rude regarding test specific questions
If you study what you learn in lecture (and go to class), you'll be fine. I did not buy the textbook and got 100 on the first two exams. Beware that the third exam is the hardest and that you're only graded on four tests.
Prof Westerman was great at conveying all of the needed info for succeeding in the class. Furthermore, she gave countless examples and practice problems which helped me prepare for the exams. The only issue I had with the class was that if you screwed up on 1 test it could negatively impact your final grade. Also you should read the textbook.
I liked professor Westerman a lot! She's really nice and caring once you get to know her. Lecture material is important but she is accessible outside class if needed. Not a super difficult class, pretty straight forward tests
does a great job of making sure the information she teaches is relevant to current research. I actually really liked the articles she assigned. A lot of readings but tests were definitely fair. Wants her students to do well. She seems intimidating but is actually really nice, just don't talk while she's trying to lecture- she'll def call you out
I have mixed feelings about Deanne Westerman. She's incredibly intelligent and a great professor, but sometimes she just takes it a bit too seriously. You have to put in work for this class, but she literally teaches you (and shows research on) how to study. Super interesting class, just the tests are a bit hard if you don't study appropriately.
She is an AMAZING professor... if you actually try. You need to put in the effort to study and get a good grade but it pays off. Go to class even though it doesn't count for that much on your final grade. Going to class and just sitting there absorbing the information will help tremendously on tests. She does not raise grades or give extra credit
Westerman is a really good professor and she is very engaging and really cares about her material. I love her as a person, but her classes are really difficult and based entirely on tests. The tests are especially rough and very specific.
Professor Westerman clearly knows her material well, but isn't that great at conveying it. Her tests are unnecessarily difficult and readings are long, hard, and boring. Just do yourself a favor and take a different professor.
This class was so hard. The material itself wasnt complicated, she just decided that it would be fun to make the test questions as tricky as possible. I studied a week in advance for every test, yet I still never managed to get above an 82.5 on a test. Take a different teacher if you like having a good GPA.
Material was decently interesting. She wasnt bad at teaching it, but she did make the tests very hard. You need to study a lot to do well. Very tricky tests.
I love Professor Westerman! I had her for Psych Stats and Human Memory. She graded both classes similarly, using TopHat for attendance and lecture questions, and a few tests that made up most of your grade. The tests were doable if you stayed on top of the homework and studied. She dropped the lowest test grade in both classes which helped a lot.
Professor Westerman, in all honesty, was one of my favorite professors. She was very helpful throughout the class and has a great personality. As long as you don't fall behind, psych stats is extremely manageable. All of her tests/lectures were very straightforward and I enjoyed my time with her. I cannot say the same for other professors I've had.
Taking Memory with Dr. Westerman this semester was one of my best decisions. She graded clearly and fairly, and often asked for class input. She is so passionate about what she teaches and it comes through in her lectures. Shes also very nice in her emails and in class. Tests were short answer essays due to the online format, but very manageable
I loved this class and Westerman. She cares about all of her students, and frequently asked for our opinion on things that would make the class better. The material was so interesting and well explained. She is the definition of a great professor.
Considered an easy A because tests were graded very easy for online semester. Material is easy, especially with open note tests. Not easy to reach Westerman and not lenient with late work even if you do great on the tests. Only graded on 4 tests and activity points so if you don't keep up with the activity points it will knock your grade down.
Professor Westerman did a good job of teaching an online class. Her class is pretty easy to do well in, as her tests were all open book and short answer, in which grading was not harsh. Make sure to get all your work in on time and you should be fine!
Lovely, smart professor <3, on top of the shift to online. Cares about her subject and is interesting and very receptive to feedback from students. Free textbook, great for good writers bc it's essay type exams for online. Lots of content, but manageable with plenty of notes and actually gives cool advice for improving memory. Don't cheat silly
Amazing professor. Fair exams and taught the subject perfectly.
I have never met a worse teacher. So bad at explaining. Confuses terms for each other all the time. Rude, and unable to slow down when her students ask her to. Im beyond upset I took this class and I need it for my degree. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
I had to teach myself everything for this course. The only reason I did well was because I studied outside of her lectures, which were disorganized, paced unevenly, where she spent most of class explaining useless terms and flying by the important material like it was self explanatory.
Bad at explaining. Plain and simple, which is a professor's only job. Points do not get across, questions remain unanswered, pace picks up and course gets much more complicated after the first couple weeks. Sheeeeeeeeesh!!!!!!!
Remember in middle/high school when we were taught how to make PowerPoints? Not make them too wordy, don't use strange colors that don't read well, check for mistakes in grammar and content before you present, etc. Boy was that not the case for this class. Get ready for some confusing lessons.
Professor Westerman is such a nice person. Also, her lectures were easy to understand, she clearly explained topics, and there isn't much work to do in this class besides reading the textbook and studying for tests. The tests were pretty fair, as long as you study a little and pay attention in class you'll do fine - the math isn't too hard either.
Honestly, my main complaint is that she is just mean sometimes. Will respond sassily to questions. I have never had trouble with math before but you can clearly witness she teaches stats as if everyone has taken it already, with comments like cant believe people are asking this, you should know this, etc to questions that are easy to answer.
Math is not my strong suit, so I was very nervous about taking this class. However, Professor Western really breaks down the material to give you a better understanding. I would recommend reading the textbook alongside the lectures for a better review, but it isn't necessary. Don't stress too much about the quizzes, only 40/60 points count.
Professor Westerman is one of the nicest teachers I have ever taken at Binghamton. In the beginning of the semester I was really struggling with the material but I went to her office hours and she helped me so much. She really cares about her students and will do anything and everything to make sure you pass.
Professor Westerman is nice, although this semester she seemed to be pretty busy and unorganized. Her lecture slides often had typos, and looked like they were put together last minute. She is nice in office hours, and very willing to help her students, though! Overall it was a fine class.
Professor Westerman is a gem and a half she is always ready and willing to help with anything you need, but definitely still go to class and do the homework because that will save you
Very nice person and easy to talk to in office hours. However, lectures were confusing and were filled with lots of errors. Also, you are graded on very few things which can make or break you. Didn't allow to go back on tests which is extremely frustrating as math builds on past information. Didn't seem to teach effectively.
90% of your grade is based on 4 tests in the semester. If you bomb one, you will not do well. Silly mistakes are not easy to fix especially because her tests did not allow backtracking or looking ahead. The grading scale is tough because an A was a 94 and an A- was a 90. There is almost no margin for error.
Professor Westerman is just meh. Not the best professor I've ever had and not the worst either. Her lectures were extremely long and wordy. Exams were all open book, but it's easier if you just memorize the material verbatim. This class was definitely not an "easy" A, you had to work for it. Show up, take good notes and you might do well.
Best professor to take a stats class with by far! Everyone who is giving negative reviews haven't taken/heard about MATH 147 or MATH 148 (which is way harder). Pay attention in lecture and do her practice problems to do well. Tests have very similar questions to the practice tests she gives you. No tricks on the tests just straight up stats.
Prof. Westerman was clear and to the point about every topic, however you still have to put in the work. The tests were easy only if you knew what you were doing. The class is very formula based (knowing when to apply those formulas) and she was able to keep such a boring subject interesting. The tests make up the majority of your grade.
Worst class I've taken BY FAR. She seems nice and everything but the way the class is formatted is set up to make you fail. She creates practice tests that are not even a little bit like the test. She gives super easy and basic definitions and examples in lecture and then makes it 8 million times harder on the actual test.
Compared to MATH 147/148, this class is the obvious choice to take. Took it Spring 2021. Tests and quizzes are the only grades with a little EC. Test questions are relatively straight forward with mostly math problems. Hardest part of the test were some of the conceptional questions which can be oddly specific. A in the class is definitely doable.
Had the misfortune of taking her class this semester. In the beginning, she seemed like the sweetest little chap. After the first few classes, I realized how much of a failure she was. Constant mistakes in lectures/slides/homework, practice tests don't showcase the difficulty of the test AT ALL, emphasizes the most useless things. Terrible. 0/10.
Dr Westerman doesnt get the credit she deserves. She really cares about her students and want them to do well. She made stats easy to follow. As long as you read the textbook and attend lecture, youll be fine!
An amazing professor. She does make the tests challenging. Do the study guides and practice exams/quizzes and you'll pass.
Dr. Westerman made psychological statistics extremely engaging and digestible. Homework is optional, but DO NOT skip it. Her tests are fair, but they do require you to study. She made a class I was originally nervous about into one of my favorites.
Whole grade is based off of 4 tests so if you do bad on one basically youre grade is ruined. Offers one extra credit assignment throughout the whole semester and no homework, participation, or projects to help boost your grade. Do what you will with this information
She gave extra credit to students in class on one day, while other students were unable to go to class due to COVID. She did not offer this EC to those absent, going against university policy on extra credit (non equitable opportunities for extra credit). I emailed her about this, and she ignored me. Only graded on 4 tests, this EC meant a lot.
I think Westerman was a good prof. The class isn't bad if you go to lecture and do the homework. She makes the occasional mistake but who doesn't. Tests are pretty much the only thing that determines your grade, but they are pretty fair.
Awful professor. slides are disorganized and have errors. She only grades off of 4 tests, no drops. Will only give a few extra credit assignments worth 1 or 2 points that are either the day before a break when people leave to go home or through quiz that you need to get full credit on in order to get only 1 point. She is disrespectful & just awful
Stats is not a difficult course and she teaches it very well. She offers a few extra credit opportunities throughout semester. One of my fav professors, she keeps a subject that can be boring interesting and engaging and because she is funny. She cares a lot about her students and very open to questions.
I love her so so much. such a nice and caring person. her lectures can be a bit messy sometimes. but just go to her office hours and ask for help. take good notes and do the assignments the exam shouldn't be hard. she cares a lot about her students. and her style is just.... goregous... 10/10
grades consist of four exams (with the final included) and gives some extra credit points throughout the semester. lectures can be messy but go to office hours and review the textbook. do the homeworks and the quizzes she provides in advance because those do help with the tests.
4 tests, no drop. Lecture heavy class, explains concepts wonderfully. HW assigned but not graded, highly recommend to do it for practice. Very fair tests. Offers few surprise EC opportunities, no curve. Note an A is a 94, not a 93 in this class. Very approachable and will help if you ask. Fair professor.
good lectures, pretty engaging. you can tell that she likes the subject which makes the class way better. grade comes from 4 tests + some extra credit (during my semester there were only 5 pts available, most coming from being in class). helpful and caring--- prof westerman gave me good advice on the psychology major in general.
Grade was four tests (none dropped) and five extra credit points. Honestly just read the slides and do problems, don't even need to go to lectures. Not a good professor, but made sense since she was mentioned doing research. Lectures were boring since Westerman basically reads off the slides. Do the practice quizzes.
by far the most precious professor i have had at this school. she explains things in a way that is easy to understand and will go back and explain things in more detail if anyone needs help. even if math is your weakest subject, if you go to every lecture and do the practice tests she posts, you will do fine
Westerman is overall a nice, solid professor. There are some super interesting topics and lectures are pretty engaging. Definitely will do better on the tests if you come to lecture, even though you don't have to. 6 tests total, with the last one being a cumulative final, and you get one drop. Tests are v fair & lots of extra credit opportunities!
Great professor and interesting topics, but the tests include a lot of material as the readings required do not overlap with lecture material most of the time. There are six tests, and each test feels as if there are only four in the semester because of all the extra required outside-class learning. Tests are difficult. Don't take for an easy A
She gave us 6 exams with one being dropped. Each exam was based on a small amount of material so it was easy to study. Super Fair Prof. Although, she does make a couple stupid hard questions to "weed out the A- people from the A people" so that kind of sucks. Its only like 1 or 2 per exam but still annoying.
Westerman is the worst psychology professor I have ever had. She is constantly contradicting her work in a human memory class in ways to study for exams. She makes it seem like she wants you to fail, she told us the first test mean was too high and she was gonna make the next one harder. Her reviews are not accuratethey're all high for easy courses
Dr. Westernman is undoubtedly passionate about memory, and she conveys that passion so well. I learned more in this class than I did in any other of my courses combined. Don't take this class if you want an easy A, but the A will come because of a drive to want to learn the information.
Dr. Westerman is very knowledgeable about memory and I learned a lot from this class and found it very interesting. She is a bit all over the place but once you figure her style out, you'll be fine. There are a LOT of tests and there are always readings to do which are on the test. This is definitely not an easy class but I would recommend it.
Dr. Westerman is an amazing professor, I really loved this class. There were a lot of tests but this helped me do well because the tests were not on a lot of material. If you really study and read the assigned texts she gives you will do great. The material is very interesting. Dr. Westerman is very knowledgeable and her lectures are enjoyable.
She is the best professor at this school. She explains everything so clearly, and you can tell she cares about her students. Lectures are really interesting, and tests are very fair and you get 1 drop and extra credit opportunities. If you show up to class and read you will do more than okay. Wish I could have her for every class!!
Professor Westerman is so interested in her work, which makes lectures easier to follow and overall interesting. The class itself is graded by 6 exams (1 drops), but theres a good amount of extra credit opportunities. There is a large amount of textbook reading for the class, which is used on exams. Would totally take one of her classes again.
engaging lecturer with clear interest in topic (obvs, since she's got the memory lab). like other exp psych courses, main grade comes from tests, but she offered a generous amount of extra credit.
Professor Westerman is awesome. She's brilliant, her lectures are never boring, she uses so many outside examples, and her tests are not difficult. She gives lots of opportunities for extra credit, however, the only grades in the class are the exams. Textbook reading is extremely important. She is pretty stern sometimes but great professor
Westerman is a passionate professor who makes the material engaging. The class has a lot of tests, but they're fair and the extra credit opportunities help. Using unstuckstudy alongside the textbook can really boost your understanding and exam prep.
She is very kind and understanding. If you pay attention in her lectures and do the reading you will have no problem passing this class. I only did not do well because I had a rough semester.
Very nice professor. She gives you everything you need to do well. Your only grades are exams so good luck if you are not a good test taker. She gave us home work and practice quizzes that weren't graded but were so helpful with learning the material. She also records lectures, BUT ATTEND LECTURE, because sometimes she can't record them.
most psych majors need this class, and im not very good at math so I thought this would be good, but is very conceptually based. There 5 tests & a cumulative final, no drops, even though other 243 teacher drop tests. u def need the textbook and should d the practice problems. tests only have 30 qs, so its hard to get a good grade if u miss some qs
Prof. Westerman is a great professor. Statistics no matter what professor is a hard course to take, but she did her best to make it enjoyable. You are graded off of 6 exams (including cumulative final) and few extra credit points. She posts most lectures and slides but bounces around some. She is a funny person and I did actually enjoy this class.
She is a great professor. Graded on 6 exams (including cumulative final, & very few EC points. Quizzes and homework for each chapter are posted as optional, but if you want to do well on the exams you should complete them. Tests are only 30 questions so studying is critical. She posts lectures and notes and gives you materials to succeed. Not easy.
Her slides are very messy, but I think reading off her slides is a more reliable gauge for what will be on the exam in contrast to the textbook, though its a decent supplemental source for practice problems. She posts quizzes for each chapter which are helpful and homework is optional. Only based on 6 exams though so study and do extra credit!
grade is compiled of only 6 exams, not recommended if you have testing anxiety. attendance is not mandatory but strongly encouraged. few ec points possible. Personally didn't like her teaching style as her slides are very messy and unorganized. would rather take boring because things like homework do get factored into your grade and not just tests.
Professor Westerman clearly wants to see her students succeed; the entire course grade is based on 6 tests which were each fairly reasonable and supplemented by a few small extra credit opportunities Practice quizzes and non-required homework assignments were posted before each exam to assist in studying and were extremely helpful
Dr. Westerman was a good prof. I had taken a stats class at a prior college, but it didn't transfer. I'm glad it didn't because I actually know what I'm doing now lol. She's very energetic and goes through a lot of effort to get people engaged. She posts a lot of material including lecture videos. 6 exams for grades but they're easy you'll be ok
so sweet and helpful. i took AP stats in high school and hated it, so i was very scared to take this class, but the way she taught all the concepts made it easy to understand and she was always available to help you outside class if you needed extra help. one of my favorite professors i've had here
I liked that there was HW available for practice that wasn't graded. There were 6 exams that were short-ish, but they seemed to happen often. Her teaching style clicked with my learning style, which was a barrier for me in past math classes. It's evident how much work she puts into each class and that she cares about the subject and the students.
Completely unfair expectations. You are only graded on 5 difficult exams with no homeworks or assignments. Exams are content from 6 lectures, multiple DENSE research articles, and hours long podcasts. Claims that she does not believe in practice exams or study guides and says "study what you think you should know" She does not want you to succeed.
Sooo amazing seriously. The class is so interesting if you really pay attention and go over your notes frequently. Tests are doable if you REALLY study a lot and you can drop your lowest. Very nice to chat with about content and general stuff and extremely knowledgeable!
Her lectures are SO interesting! Wish she was a little more accessible outside class and was a bit more clear about what goes on the tests, but this is my favorite class regardless! Graded by 5 tests, one drop (so the final is optional). Would def recommend if you need an experimental for psych.
Exams are extremely difficult, considering the content is not nearly as difficult. Graded on 5 exams, 1 gets dropped, 7 possible points of extra credit.
Very interesting class, she can also be very funny sometimes. You have to put in the EFFORTTT to study for her exams bc they are very challenging and specific but if you work hard you will succeed. She's very knowledgeable and cares so much about what she's teaching
shes amazing. her lectures and the material itself is super interesting. definitely need to STUDY for her exam but theyre not bad. she posts reviews for every exam after, especially helpful for the cumulative final. 5 exams with one drop and 7 extra credit points.
she is clearly very passionate about her job, she is funny and very sarcastic so its not hard to pay attention to her lectures. LOTS of wordy long readings. tests are no joke, you need to be consistently studying all semester, memory is tough in first place bc terms are very very similar and can be mixed up so easily. pay very close attention.
Class was slightly, and my lowest grade this semester; however, this is to be expected. She is truly a great lecturer, but her tests can be very specific and are your only grades. However, you get one test dump, which can include the final. I truly do recommend this class to anyone; it was very, very interesting, and she is a great professor.
LOVE Westerman! She's so funny, smart, and considerate. Idk how I ended up getting a B+ bc the class was generally easy but your grade is only based on your exam scores plus a few extra credit points so if you're not a good test taker, it may be hard to do well. Otherwise, material is pretty interesting and Westerman makes lectures fun.
Dr. Westerman is truly a master in the field of Human Memory. She is so passionate and knowledgable, so lectures were genuinely interesting. She can be a bit disorganized and unclear about what's going to be on the tests, so that was frustrating. Not an easy A by any means, but it is SO worth it. So interesting and applicable to daily life.
