I loved Deb, he was awesome

Entertaining, but it took me about 2 weeks to get on grip on what we were supposed to be learning. There is a ton of information to sift through, but I did learn a lot and am glad that I took the class. I still use some of the stuff I learned.

Extremely helpful prof. The class covered a lot of ground with some basic stuff and some high-end topics. Deb seemed to genuinely care that everybody ended the class knowing all the content.

Deb is a great professor and he's very kind and cares a lot about his students! He's very passionate about the subject and helpful in class.

Class is completely composed of guest lecturers. Deb is very unorganized and confused 90% of the time, but it's not really a problem. Definitely a fair grader, will go above and beyond to make sure the class is satisfied with their grades. Great class if you're looking to explore the MJ and school and not break your GPA!

We had guest lecturers every class but they were all very interesting. The professor was very caring and e-mails back quickly (he even emailed me back on Thanksgiving). If you go to class you will do well, this is by far the easiest and most interesting class I have taken.

He's so nice and hilarious. The class is mostly guest lectures but god bless him he's a gem.

Easiest A at UNC. The final is worth 40%, but the study guides are super clear.

I honestly didn't love this class, I just loved Deb. Hilarious, kind, caring man. when he says "Dean King, katria, veasey and I care about your success in mejo101" he means it. basically all guest lectures. most are boring some are good. Katria is a goddess. a couple easy papers and tests w/ very clear criteria

Deb is so passionate and funny. You can tell he really cares about his students. The class is an easy A and pretty much all guest lectures. There are not many assignments.

Deb is very funny. The class is all guest lectures though so he only taught at most two class periods. Easy A if you show up to class. Final and midterm are all based on guest lecturers and assigned readings. Easy papers. Don't take the final as a joke though it is 40% of your grade.

Deb was so much fun to have as a professor. The class was mostly guest lecturers and there was only a couple tests and papers. Deb made it very clear what you should do to get a good grade on the tests and papers. His class was a great introduction to the journalism school.

Deb is a host of Mejo 101, the class is filled with guest lecturers from a wide variety of MEJO fields. These lectures are intriguing and Deb and Dean King find professionals to come and teach the class. Deb gives you so many recourses and aid and genuinely wants everyone to succeed. There are readings but you can usually get away with not reading

Almost every week is a guest lecture and it's always such a treat to hear what professionals in the field have to say. Aikat and Dean King are also wonderful. Graded by few things, so be wary. You can usually get away with not doing the readings. Be warned, though, that if you skip class you have to write a whole absence paper, which is ridiculous.

MeJo 101 is a class that has different lecturers every session to talk about real world applications of journalism. Some are pretty entertaining. The class is easy as there is no HW. However, test scores are everything. This was also the strictest attendance class I've ever had. Don't miss more than 2 classes or it will hurt your grade severely.

Dr. Aikat is pretty nice but don't take this class. Only like 5 assignments factor into your grade (graded pretty arbitrarily) and the wording on the test questions is unnecessarily confusing. The class should be an easy A but it is not. The teachers are very nice, though, but absolutely no extra credit is given.

Deb is a very responsible teacher. He's from India, so his speaking style and teaching style are very exotic, which is fun. He gives clear lectures, prepares heavy material for us to review for exams and prepare for classes, which is very helpful. He emphasizes feedback from students a lot. He is willing to change course plans and exams accordingly

Deb is hilarious! The ironic part is he doesn't really teach. The class is composed of lectures from guest speakers which are really awesome for the most part. Topics discussed range from PR to fashion to motion graphics to journalism. The midterm is sneaky-hard so don't blow it off. As long as you show up and take some notes, it will be easy.

Deb is a very cool lad. He is always cracking jokes and makes class enjoyable to attend. MJ101 is graded by 2 short papers, attendance, a midterm MC exam, and a final MC exam. The papers are graded very easily and the exams are almost a joke considering how easy 90% of the questions are. Take this class and you will not be disappointed.

Mejo 101 is structured around guest lectures and assigned readings. There are two exams and an essay assignment. Attendance s mandatory. Exams are not hard if you review the readings and and your notes.

I literally did not pay attention during class at all and I got an A+ guys. When I say that they want you to pass, THEY WANT YOU TO PASS. Just review the slides and reading lists they make before exams and you'll be good to go. The MC exam questions are so easy they're "this close" to being common sense. Take the GPA booster. You'll need it.

This class consisted mostly of guest lectures from people in the fields of Media and Journalism. This is a great exploratory class if you are interested in this area. Professor Aikat is very dedicated to the success of his students and makes his expectations very clear.

Deb is hilarious, but he doesn't really teach the class; almost every class is taught by a different guest lecturer. I found most of them to be extremely boring, and the worst part is that you're tested on their exact wording on the exams. There are 2 essays that are also graded pretty harshly. I thought this class would be an easy A but it wasn't.

Professor Deb is definitely a professor I won't forget. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this class very much but none of that is attributed to him. Each class had a guest speaker which meant he would rarely teach. However, I really really enjoyed his presence and looked forward to seeing him each class!

This class proves that no matter how good the professor is if you're not interested in the subject, it's harder. TA's were amazing! Test questions sometimes required you to recall what a guest speaker said word for word. We had a new guest speaker in almost every class, which was fun. This class is great for anyone looking to explore MEJO careers.

Mejo 101 was such a great class! I took it fall 2020 online and it was one of my favorite classes. We had so many interesting guest lectures. Attendance was not for a grade, but I recommend going to get a good grade on the weekly quizzes. Deb & Lee are hilarious and we talked about so many interesting topics. Great class!

Loved the variety of this class! There were lots of different guests speaker. Professor Aikat is so funny and caring. He really wants you to get a good grade on everything and helps you through it.

Just here to give my praise to Dr. Deb. The class is almost purely a new lecturer each session discussing a different aspect of journalism, but Deb helps fills the blanks nicely with a great personality. He truly cares for his students and reaches out by email with many help sessions for those that need it. Class relies too much on memorization.

Class was taken all on zoom, different guest speakers pretty much every class so don't really hear from Deb except funny introductions. All lectures are recorded and posted, attendance isn't mandatory but quizzes each week to test attendance are pretty specific. Midterm and final are a lot of memorization.

They had so many awesome guest lectures and had an awesome format. Were very understanding and extended deadlines. Weekly quizzes with two papers. The papers were laid out exactly the way they wanted. Easy A. Just do the work. Midterm and final based off of weekly quizzes. Highlighted material on the midterm and final for easy study guide.

I loved Professor Aikat! The class was mostly based upon guest lecturers, but he was always available to help you outside of class. I didn't really enjoy the assignments we had to do but they weren't too bad. I wish we had more lectures taught by him, but his presence in class made it fun and interesting. If you work hard, it's an attainable A.

Deb was a very fun professor to have. Like the other reviews said, he didn't teach much because the class relied on guest lectures. He was always so accessible outside of class and a great communicator and resource. Although I really liked him, the class itself was not the easy A I thought it was. Still glad I took it though!

Deb is a wonderful instructor who truly wants his students to succeed. If there is an assignment with complicated instructions, he provides all resources needed to complete it. His final exam was a little difficult, though. I was making an A until the exam and it brought me down to a B and I know many of my classmates has the same experience.

A 95 is an A which is annoying but overall, pretty easy class. He took attendance every class but we never actually got an attendance/participation grade so I don't think it matters. He had really interesting speakers and the assignments were pretty easy and easily graded he just takes like so long to return it to you. Bad at answering questions

This course is awesome. Many guest speakers from different Media and Journalism areas introduce the basic knowledge about their teaching field. Deb is very strict with the deadline, but overall friendly. The quiz and exams are pretty easy.

Deb is extremely knowledgeable, sweet, and caring. Even with a class period starting at 7:15 p.m., his humor and personality made it worth going to class. Deb is one of the best professors I've had at UNC and even if you aren't a MEJO major, 141 is enjoyable and interactive if you take it with Deb. The assignments aren't hard, just time-consuming.

Super energetic and cares about his students. You can tell he's really passionate about the class too. I thought this class was easy but an A is a 95 which is kinda high. Diff professors from the MEJO school come guest lecture for every class. You take a couple of open note quizzes, a take-home exam, and the final exam.

Deb's class was fun, and really gives a good foundation for the field of journalism, and even touches on the basics of Advertising and PR.

Deb is an amazing and extremely caring professor. He is there to answer any and all questions that you may have about his course as well as help you outside of his course in any way he possibly can. MEJO 101 was a class that I always looked forward to going to.

Professor Aikat is incredibly kind, and it's clear he wants his students to get a high grade. Expectations and grading criteria couldn't be clearer, and he spends a lot of time (maybe too much) answering questions about assignments. All of the assignments are easy, just a bit tedious at times. Even though an A starts at 95, it's still doable.

Deb is kind, fair, and loveable. While not very tech-savvy, he always provides space for student questions and suggestions. His syllabus and grading criteria were the most well-organized and clear that I have ever seen. Most people I know got high A's in this class just by participating and following directions.

This class was a 7:15PM, but he brought the energy every single time. He is nothing short of a phenomenal professor, who keeps lectures interesting. If you need credits or a good grade and want to enjoy the class, take Deb. He is an amazing guy and a great yet understanding teacher.

I had this class from 5:45-7:00, but Deb was always so positive and uplifting. The content of this course was very manageable, going to class and participating in lectures made it MUCH more engaging. Highly suggest MEJO 141 with him!

Deb is really cool. He ALWAYS will answer whatever question you have. He wants questions. But just a APA citations project, easy presentation, midterm, more citations and final. He cares a lot about the kids and participation not graded but participate -- it'll make him happy. Nice old Indian guy

Deb is a great professor! I took MEJO 141 over the summer online, and it was pretty easy. He was always available outside of class for help on the very few assignments we had.

Deb is SUPER nice and the tests are very easy- mostly common sense and based on all of the readings he gives us. There were a few projects, all of which were graded easy as long as you follow directions. The lectures weren't ever helpful (it's mostly Deb asking if anyone has any questions), but overall would recommend- Deb's a great guy!

Super energetic and passionate about the subject. Assignments provide a clear rubric and grading generally isn't harsh, granted that good effort is shown. Lectures aren't super helpful but all test material goes along with the readings and slides he provides. Very fun class.
