Is an ok professor
The course is somewhat difficult but he tries to make it as simple and clear as possible.
it is hard not to like him
He is a great but strict Professor. Its just that the class itself is pretty difficult.
Runs a strict class. His class tends to be boring as he teaches an overwhelming amount of students. As long as you read the book, you'll easily understand what he's talking about. He's kind of ethnocentric about his Indian culture though. Overall, he's ok
This guy is one of the best. The readings are alot but he tries to simplify everything. Just read the book and u know what he's talking about. And he isn't enthnocentrix about his indian culture..he just relates things from his perspective.
really nice
Very good prof. Clear, interesting examples, very hard NOT to understand if you come to class. Perfect Prof in all ways but one, his tests; In some of the home-work and in some questions on test he is just not clear enough.
don't take this dude. He is good but seriously don't take him. The guy is a tough sucker and unless you have read the book than you are one dead meat walking on water. Over all he aint bad. Just that indian acccent.
I was expecting a boring lecture class but now I love economics! Prof. Deb is the best I've had this semester. The discussions and analogies he brings in are great. He's relaxed&very helpful. The online homework is fun. You must attend lecture and read the book to do well.
Makes economic tolerable!! Explains everything clearly and gives good examples that relate to life. I did not read the book and was ok, you just have to come to class. Not ethnocentric, jokes about his indian culture. Has no accent, no problems of understanding. I recommend to take him.
one of the best profs I have ever had!
Great guy, super interresting class, great lectures, fun, cracks jokes sometimes, very helpful, fare grader, make sure to attend the class and take good notes, this way you will not even have to read the book. One of the best I have had, so HELLOOO MICRO.
I thought he was a pretty good prof. He answered many questions with details. The only thing I didn't like about him was that he only gave 2 exams for the whole semester.
Best professor I've ever had. The econometrics sequence is challenging and his exams and projects are difficult but he explains all topics very clearly and I couldn't think of anyone better to teach this course.
He does not give a**** about the class. You can tell that he is bored in class. He always leaves early and never corrects the homework
Whoever posted that last review must have really sucked at econometrics and I would ignore it completely if you want to know how this professor really is. Deb is a great professor his teaching is thorough and explanatory even for the most difficult concepts. He is a great guy and genuinely cares about the students. Do the work and you will love him
I have to agree. Partha is by far the BEST teacher in the department. He is a good lecturer and a good mentor to his students.
This guy is cool and all. The truth is, if you're not Indian, you can't get an A.
I love how people try to make up for their inadequacies by blaming it on something else. He's a great professor, very helpful, and if you go to class often enough you learn much more than the book will ever teach you.
great professor with a great sense of humor, one of a kind. keeps you interested in the subject, you never what chapter he is on, but knows how to explain and keep you alert.
AWESOME teacher. Makes difficult concepts easy to understand. My intro class was horrible and everything they tried to teach me he did so much better. I highly recommend taking him. Probably one of the best ECO teachers at Hunter.
Great professor. Gives excellent lectures that eliminate any questions the book may pose. Very fair grader as well, probably the best professor I've had so far.
very funny...i love that he uses aspects of his own life as an example for the concepts he teaches. having said that tho u would never know that he was sooo into food, seeing as all his examples are abt food(milk and cereal)
boring class. test gets harder as u move on.. i dunt like the class, or im just not a economics person~~
The only professor who truly cares about his students. He is very funny, inspiring. He makes concepts impossible to understand very easy. Deffinately the best professor in the department. He teached me more then any other professor.
He teaches very well and clearly; I liked his lectures. Homework on-line almost every week; two midterms and a final; but I think that his tests are fair, even though some questions may be tricky. Some concepts may be hard, but he explains them very well. Overall, he is very good. Take his class!
I always liked the ways in which he would connect what we were learning to current events and issues. I liked looking forward to the interesting discussions we have had and the challenging questions we were left to think about. I have never had a professor like him and I don't think I ever will. (This is > > > not just a compliment, it's a fact!)
The best professor I've had so far at Hunter. He knows his stuff and teaches content through examples that make it easy to remember the theory. A really good person, very motivating.
Looks like SRK with no hair! He talks like him too! Very fun and interesting guy. Always has great stories and examples to tell, and teaches micro in a way that lets you grasp the theory & concepts fully. Tests are very fair, and by very fair, I mean very easy, he just gives out A's like candy. But you have to come to class, because the Text blows!
ok he does not look like SRK! lol.. but he definitely is a GREAT professor! his lectures are clear and fun! he explains everything very nicely... gives practice exams aswell! im glad i took his class!
Really great professor, very inspiring. He is very helpful but a great way to get on his bad side is not reading, not comming to class, and then showing up before the exam complaining. His enthusiasm is infectious, and he makes economics really really fun.
Very good teacher, clear, funny, has a lot of knowledge and his clases are interesting. If you understand the topic, take notes- you will do fine. I strongly recomend to take this class, because I really enjoy it and I liked comming for his lectures :))))))
Knows what he's teaching but lectures are very boring and confusing. All he does is draw graphs that means nothing once you try to review on your own. 2 mid terms and a final but they are very hard unless you listen carefully to his lectures and read the text book.
I'm sorry but the person who wrote that obviously did no work in class. Of course the exams will be hard if you don't come to class or read the text book! I loved Deb he really got me into economics. Everyone taking 200 should take him...it's worth it!

A very good prof. his reviews before the exams r very helpfull...he makes sure u understand everything and is ready to help u till u r completely understand it...makes economics very interesting...teaching method is good keeps the class interested by cracking sily jks abt economics...
His lectures are clear & concise, but purely graphs. To better understand them, in addition write down all verbal examples. He also doesn't go in order of chapters in the book so make sure you do all aplia practices and then read when he assigns chapters. You learn more on aplia, so budget ur time & this class shouldn't be a problem. Easy class!!!
Probably one of the best Professors at Hunter. He is at the heart of Hunter BA/MA Eco Major. If you want to learn Econometrics this is the guy to take! Attend Lectures and you will learn a lot.
One of the best teachers I've had at Hunter. Explains concepts well, tests are fair and balanced, and interests students in the subject, as well as challenging students and having good discussions. One of the EXTEMELY RARE instances where I actually enjoyed coming to class.
Prof. Deb is the best! He explains everything so clearly and his tests are fair. He gives practice exams which are very similar to the real test, so there is no need to worry. As for the textbook, all I have to say is...I wasted 100 bucks! Prof. Deb teaches so well that the textbook is of no use! LOL Great prof. Definitely take this class:)
He is a great professor. If you have any problems he is more than happy to help you. He does not stand for stupid excuses but takes everything into account. He was so clear that I never had to read the book. As long as you put an effort into the class there is no reason to do poorly.
Soooo good. He is a really nice guy, very helpful, he wants you to get things. He is a fair grader and is a very straight foward no nonsense guy. Go to class, take notes, study and you will definitely get an A. No matter how smart of stupid you are when you finish this class you will learn something and hopefully gain a new interest in economics.
I'm taking him right now. All I can say is Prof Deb rocks!! no really! He's awesome. I don't think he needs any more reviews, but I can't hold back. Funny, clear, helpful and engaging! If you love economics take him! If you hate economics then DEFINITELY take him! His purpose in life is to show students how awesome economics can be!
Smart, clear, funny, makes a lecture class fun.
Awesome professor. Keeps the class interested in the material and is very helpful. Very nice and respectful. tests are murder, so study your ass off!
i loved this professor!!! the first day he makes it seem like the class will be very very difficult but as long as you go to class sit in the front and read the book...the exams are simple! no tricks.
The best professor in the department. Clear, funny, helpful. His classes are hard--but he guides you through the material using the book, examples and STATA. Practice your matrix algebra, really understand the Chow test, and you'll be OK.
I find it rather entertaining that he sometimes leads asort of conversations with himself "yes?", anyways this man is pretty helpful, has a slight sense of humor that might keep you from passing out in the hot room 510... he isnt using powerpoint so im pretty greatful for that. he doesnt use the textbook word by word so id advise going to lectures.
Answer own questions all the time. keeps rubbing his , and gets lost mid sentence. Is funny sometime. okay professor

I love deb! He is the man! He is very helpful, hes funny, extremely knowledgeable and gives so many great examples of his life, including tips of where to get good ice cream lol. Very straightforward, what you see in class is what you get on exams. He holds attention well and hes got a great smile =)

He is the greatest, very helful and understaning but dont go to him with BS. Just do the work and pay attention you will do fine. He is funny and will have you very interested in Economics by the end of the semester... His class is never boring, if you take good notes you be on the right path for his exams. He's the best and a must take professor.

Best Proff EVER. Super smart, funny and easy. Dont buy the textbook it is a waste. Do yourself a HUGE favor and take him- regardless of your major!!!
He makes Eco interesting and funny. He makes examples related to today's society specially related to us (students)
He is a great professor! Highly recommended! Very explicit with explanations and utilized analogies related to today's world.
Most amazing professor! You do not need to buy the textbook because you can use it online. You should do the reading but only to make it stick in your head. He will actually teach you everything you need to know! Take him and you will come out loving economics!
Best professor I had at Hunter!!!!!! He's an easy going teacher, compares economics to real life people, gives the class advice. PERFECT! 2 midterms and a final, along with an online hw (easy)...DO your work and pay attention and you'll do well!
The guy used to remind me Bombay traffic when he was lecturing the way he did. It was so messy. I felt like he did it on purpose to not to make people understand him. I do not understand why people rate him high even though they do not get anything from him in the the class. People sound very much biased! Bottom line; You are on your own in this cl
Not an Easy professor at all for Grad courses. Homeworks are very time-consuming. Lectures are all over the place. Not an easy class at all!!!
Do not take this guy. Class is not easy. During the whole semester weekly homeworks containing 60 70 problems. A lot of work. You will not have time to prepare for no other class , just because of his homeworks. Not easy exams at all. Think if you want this.
What an amazing class. The tests can be a little rough towards the end but other than that, nothing short of amazing. Very reasonable professor and a great orator. One of the best at Hunter.
This professor is really nice, and funny you will not get bored in class, but i must admit it is a tough class, alot of homework during the weekends and tests aren't easy, don't take it if you're going to slack off like i did. other than the work load and hard exams, he was pretty nice.
He's one of the funniest professors at Hunter, and you definitely will not get bored in his class. But the exams are fair (require a lot of studying though), and his homeworks are pretty tough. But if you really put effort, you can pull off a pretty good grade. Professor's always nice and helpful as well, and very precise in his explanations.
I took the class for a GRE, but liked Deb so much I declared economics as my major and am trying to get in to the BA/MA economics program he runs. Taking his class might not change your academic career like it did mine, but he's a lot of fun and you'll learn a lot.
I seriously don't understand at all why he got such a great rate! Basically, he doesn't explain , and his exams are very very hard! ! His HW, which is graded, due every week also very hard! We had a lot of issue about HW this semester and he didn't care about the issues! He never replies my emails and doesn't care about our grades.
Amazing Introduction to ECON. He has set the standard for me since I didn't know what I was getting myself into by declaring ECON as a major. He is passionate and well spoke. Most definitely taking him again if the opportunity presents itself
I learned a great deal from this course, but found this professor's grading to be unfair. There is a large end of semester project on which most of our grade is based on. Grading ends up being skewed in favor of students who are best at getting around actually doing their own work. I'm a straight A student, and simply find his grading policy absurd
Professor Partha is a very good at teaching the material in class, however the Aplia homework is extremely difficult and its a lot of it. The exams aren't too hard, multiple choice(worth 60 points) and short answers (worth 40 points).
Prof. Deb truly cates for his students, he will answer as many questions as asked and will never be rude. Exams reflect topics covered in class. There are 2 midterms both for which he gives practice exams. The practice exams help a whole lot if you do them. However for the final exam, there is no practice. He is a must take!
Partha is amazing for intro micro. He knows everything off the top of his head and is happy to take questions or discuss economics with students. Tests are very fair and he even gives practice exams which are really helpful. If you don't know whether or not economics is for you or if you've never tried it, I definitely recommend taking his class.
he is knowledgeable, but it does not help the students, because what you see on exams he does not discuss in class. he gives review sheet but does not explain in class. I wish that review was helpful only 3-4 questions are similar. if you are good at eco you will get good grade other wise you will end up with c or f.
Not sure if it's because I took macro before micro but this class wasn't hard. His lectures were easy to understand but I feel like he sometimes goes off topic. Tests were easy for me and homework can be time consuming and harder than what the test is.
First time taking economics and it wasn't that bad. If you read the textbook prior or after attending lecture then you should be fine. His lectures are not mandatory, I tend to find myself wondering what he's actually talking about. But his tests are fair, and homework (aplia) counts a lot and helps you understand the material a bit more.
took this class thinking it would be a not 2 difficult elective to graduate, got an f now im 2 credits short for a class i didn't even need. gives hw's and 3 exams. crams the last two exams in the last 2 weeks of the semester. if u aren't a good test taker, do not take this class kus he will fail you. hw's dont matter kus i did them all and still F
He is so funny and so smart. He incorporates real life scenarios to make lecture interesting. Also adds in life advice and is very inspirational. Just show up to class and you will do fine. He gives out a practice exam before exams which are extremely similar to the real test, as well as offer tutoring sessions.
Professor Deb is awesome. Hes super funny and tries to connect the topic in class to the real world. You really have to read the textbook to pass the tests.
He is the BEST professor! He is a smart, caring, dedicated, passionate lecturer. He made me want to study economics. If you do most of the readings, HW, and go to most of the classes you will get a good grade. I would 100% take his class again and really recommend his class. Thus far, econ100 was my favorite class. HE IS AMAZING (and hilarious).
Professor Deb was awesome. If you do the work, pay attention in class, and study the material its an easy A. His lectures are awesome and hes really funny and honest. One of the best Econ Professors at Hunter. Highly recommend taking his class!
Super helpful inside and outside class. He makes dry lectures interesting with his life stories. Grades fairly. You will not regret taking his class.
He's wonderful and wants his students to do well. His lectures are great, he incorporates a lot of real world examples and makes sure you understand the topic. He's hilarious! - sometimes side tracks but still manages to teach the rest of the class.
He is very respectful and smart. He gave a practice exam before each test and the practice one is really similar to the real one. He read almost everyone's message in chat even in a 300 students class. Homework is really important because he counts 40% of the course grade. Pay attention in class and do well on your homework is easy to get an A.
His homeworks are worth a lot-40% so it's important to get the homework answers correct. There are 3 exams, each worth 10%, and one final exam worth 20%. And participation is 10%, which is just answering questions on tophat. His class is not the easiest, but it isn't the hardest. But he is a nice and funny professor.
Homeworks are worth a lot and greatly contribute to the questions on the tests so DO YOUR HOMEWORK. A little tip: make a google doc like I did and for the questions u got wrong on the hw, add it to the doc so you can review. Awesome prof and great lectures!
professor partha is awesome. he's funny and really cool and explains things very clearly. however, you need to be really careful with the homework because it counts the most for your grade. tophat SUCKS and you won't know your actual grade for this class unless you ask him.
PROFESSOR DEB IS A GOOD PROFESSOR. IF YOU THINK HIS CLASS IS GOING TO BE EASY BECAUSE ITS ECON 100 YOUR ARE WRONG. HIS HOMEWORKS ARE WORTH ALOT. IF YOU DONT LIKE LEARNING BASED ON EXAMPLES THEN THIS CLASS ISNT FOR YOU.
Professor Deb is hilarious. You should absolutely take him. His lecturing is interesting and simple. There is a large amount of hw but it's mostly easy so just do it. If you pay attention in class, you don't need to read the textbook. If you do the hw and take the practice tests, the tests are super easy. Just take it somewhat seriously to get an A
IT'S THE WAY THAT HE TEACHES THAT MAKES YOU TO GET INTERESTED IN THE CLASS. JUST PAY ATTENTION TO HIS CLASS EVERY DETAIL IS IMPORTANT FOR THE EXAM, AND DO THE HOMEWORK THAT WILL HELP YOU TO UNDERSTAND MOST OF THE CONCEPTS.
A fun professor. his lectures are relatable and funny. It's weirdly hard for a level 100 course. If you're looking for an easy ride, I'd rather take another professor instead. If you want to learn something brand new, take this course. If you study hard enough you will pass.
Professor Deb is an amazing professor. His lectures are entertaining and he provides a lot of real life examples to help you understand concepts. For an introductory class, if you pay attention, take notes, and do the practice exams, you will do amazing on the real exams! He is knowledgeable on what he teaches.
Professor Partha was awesome! This class is a bit hard in my opinion albeit i did not always take the hw seriously. He is very caring and helpful and always gives students the benefit of the doubt. He allows redos for both midterms and can boost up your grades! He does grade heavily on tophat and you must do good on tophat to get a good grade.
He had excellent lectures. Sometimes you may need to watch videos outside of class to understand but he puts up slides and keeps them on TH. Practice exams are very similar to midterms. Show up to office hours and review sessions if the do them. Final is both midterms combined. Just study and ask questions, you will be fine. SHow up to class too.
Deb is an amazing professor. His lectures are filled with examples. He is always available during his office hour to help you. Exams are similar to practice exams so as long as you understand the questions on the practice exams and do them, you will pass.
Professor Deb is great! Expectations are clear and the class is based on his lectures. His lectures are examples based and as long as you pay attention and ask questions you will be good. He gives practice exams which are very similar to the actual exams; 3 total. Take the homework & participation seriously since it is graded. The class is great!
Was honestly expecting this class to be an easy A coming from a non-Econ major, but you actually have to study a bit. Profesor Deb makes his lectures enjoyable, just make sure you know your stuff because the tests are not as easy as you'd think for a 100 level class. You'll be good as long as you read, do the Top Hat work and the exam reviews.
Professor Deb talks for 95% of the lecture and skims through the PowerPoints. Manageable but not your typical 100 class. Graded based on in class questions, tophat homework, 2 midterms, and the final. Practice tests are similar to the actual ones and hw is easy.
I had him for a intro calss and tbh he just talks a lot. Hes great and all but his class is super test heavy and the way he phrases his questions are so confusing. ECO 100 had 2 exams 20% of your grade and 1 final 25% of your grade so yeah not the best when the exams are extreamly confusing. For a intro class its not worth taking him.
alot harder than an intro class should be
It is not what a intro class should be. Test questions are very confusing. The practice exam he gave does not help that much because he switch up questions. Three test total each 20% overall grade. First exam class average is 59/100. I got 65. :)
Professor Deb is without doubt one of the best professors ive had. His lectures are interesting with many real life examples and funny stories in-between and honestly if you pay attention to the lectures, and do the topcoat assignments, you will do well in the class. If you had any previous economics experience, the class is really not that hard.
very decent, loves to yap about the gossip he hears and gives a really solid econ introduction.
Professor Deb cares for his students. He is clear on what the class consists of and his grading isn't harsh. Tophat consists of homework and class participation. His lectures for me were either boring, I already knew stuff, or didn't learn much. Some lectures are important and needed. Tests are clear based off practice ones. Sort of homework-heavy.
Prof Deb's great! Most info was spoken and slides were for graphs and examples (so pay attention!). It's also not even hard for an intro class; if you put in even a bit of effort and make sure you understand everything thoroughly (it can get confusing but there's not much content tbh), an A is def manageable. Class is fun, and I miss him already!
He's a fun professor, but not everyone's favorite. Homework gets done, but it takes him and his TAs two weeks to grade it. Unfortunately, feedback is lacking, and when you ask for it, he is rude. Getting hold of him during office hours is tough because former students are in there, airing grievances, while current ones wait in line for assistance.
I would take someone else but he is ok. The online homework is fine, but it takes him 3 weeks to grade written parts. He will rudely respond to you if you tell him that he graded something wrong. Can't reach him outside of class because his old students get the priority.
Professor Deb is an engaging lecturer, but the class can be hit-or-miss. Attend class, do the TopHat work, and use Unstuck study to prepare - it really helps with the confusing exam questions.
hes a pretty funny prof and makes a lot of jokes in class but when it comes to teaching he's a little confusing. hw is not that bad but he does give it 2-3 times a week and you have to pay $75 to access it. he gives practice exams but his tests are confusing.
He kinda goes on rants that are unrelated to the course or assignments. You have to buy a TopHat course for this class, and that's where all the homework is. His lectures don't cover all of the homework questions, he wants you to self learn or go to TAs for those. Otherwise, hes kinda funny, and its a pretty easy class. Sometimes there's pop quizzes
I always looked forward to his class.
Always looked forward to his class.
Light work and the man is funny. You should probably attend class because he explains it very well compared to the textbook which is kind of a waste of time.
HILARIOUS professor. Has a deep understanding of economics. Incredible shoes (adidas gazelles, boots, etc). Occasionally gives meaningful life advice. Highly recommend. real Partha quote: "Insulin, rent, cocaine, it's all the same.”
He's fine, pay attention to his lectures, and you'll definitely learn. He does give a lot of homework, but he dropped the worst week of our homework. His practice exams were okay, but they're not entirely accurate representations of what's on the actual exam. If you're tight on money like me, don't take his class, as you have to pay 60$ for Tophat.
