Really tries to help you out, occasionally goes too slowly. Great powerpoint slides and course packets. Really friendly and good professor, all in all.
Good teacher, not always so clear because she goes kind of fast. The TA was more helpful.
HORRIBLE!! Her reviews have absolutely nothing to do with the quizzes, which have almost no relation to the textbook. She goes way too fast and gets far ahead of the syllabus for no reason. She does not answer questions well, and flat out is a terrible teacher. Avoid at all costs!!
Easy course but not the easiest teacher to understand. I stayed in bed and taught myself better than she taught the class. She was the author or the book "statistics for dummies". Suggestion to her, read the book "teaching for dummies".
I can't say she was terrible.... but she definately was NOT GOOD! She doesn't want to take the time to be a professor... just wants to teach and get out of there
Horrible teacher! doesnt explain her examples, goes way too fast, teaches material that isnt in the book, and gets angry when students dont attend her 8am lecture. for the final review, everybody was yelling at her for her crappy teaching style, and everybody clapped when the TA took over the review
The worst teacher I have ever had. She gets pissed with her student when they do not understand something instead of trying to walk them through it. She thinks she knows everything.
This lady was a joke....She took over the department and she turned it into an impossible class...I went to her review session and she confused me even more...This proves once again that Ohio State needs to take poor teacher like her out of this university...
For a moderate hard class like this, she is a horrible professor. She doesn't have patience and her attitude is apparent when students don't follow her pace and style as she did at the review session. She is teaching this class next quarter. Take the block session even though it is longer.
She was probably the least organized, knowledgable prof. I have ever had. She couldn't even do her own review sheets. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!!!!!!
midterm and final were tough, material not exactly covered in book, she tests you on how the formulas work and not how to use them.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Not helpful at all, talks down to students, barely curves, moves way too quickly through complex material, and her review sheet for the final pretty much had nothing to do with the actual test. Absolute worst teacher I have had in my 14 years of education.
Horrible... took forever to explain the easiest concepts and breezed through in depth material that ended up being the heart of the finals and midterms. Take the night course with another teacher.
This teacher is the worst teacher ever and tries to trick her students. She will not answer any questions you have about your grade and makes the final exam impossible and completely irrelevant to everything we had learned. Wouldn't even respond to emails because she is that stubborn. HORRIBLE!
No, I firmly believe she sucked as a professor. The final was impossible to pass. Pointless going to the lectures since she goes over the easy stuff and does not cover the hard stuff.

Material itself not that hard in retrospect, but her lectures revolve soley around the worksheets she makes. Seems incredibly irritated and personally offended when someone asks a question. Take her if you already know it, not if youre going to need help.
Whatever you do do not take this class with this teacher!! She is vengful, vindictive and overall a horrible professor. Personally i think she ehould be fired. She lectures straight from the book then tests you on material she makes up. Absolutely horrible if you value your GPA stay away!!
Had a very hard grader (wasn't her). She compensated a little but not enough. 4 hour, 50 point homeworks would come back with 20 points off. Didn't speak my language so to speak. Good for some but not for me. She was confusing and she was too busy to care.
Dr Rumsey was a very helpful and enthusiastic prof. I appreciated the fact that she was always willing to answer questions and never acted like she had better things to do or papers to get published. She is truly a teacher and if you didn't get what you needed, then you didn't try very hard.

DR is an awesome prof. She is always willing to help. With regards to problem difficulty, the class is a business prereq, it is supposed to be challenging. Also, lets not forget the average on exams was about 82%. That indicates that a majority of people had a good grasp on the material.
She was a good teacher who clearly demonstrated the subject matter. Attendance helped your grade. The class was revamped and based on what I heard about her and the class during the fall, the winter quarter was easier to handle.
Dr. Rumsey is a very thorough, patient teacher. I am absolutely shocked by what some people have said about her. If you go to class there is absolutely no reason you shouldn't get an A. Honestly, she is a nice and helpful person! Dont pay any attention to the negative comments.
worst authority figure i have ever had
I thought that she was a great teacher. She explained stuff really well. If someone did poorly in this class, it is his or her own fault, NOT the professor's!
great experience; made many changes that have really improved the course. Very responsive to students
good notes given in class and you know what to expect. If you just go to class and fill in your note outlines you will do well
explains everything slowly and neatly. if you go to all of teh classes you should get an a. go to the classes because she doesn't cover everything in the book - but only the basics. tries to make jokes - quite humorous. was able to keep my attention for being an early class.

The class was not all that hard, need to go to class to get the notes. I think I only opened the book once.
Teacher is kind of boring, and often makes mistakes in class so pay attention in lecture. An awesome part of class is that you get to use a sheet of notes on the exam! :)
I left a part of my soul behind everytime I went to lecture. PAINFULLY boring class. I still hurt when I think about it... and this professor.
She is a very good and clear teacher. You must go to class to get the notes but you don't need the book at all. I never opened it so don't buy it. Get to use sheets of notes on exams. Overall a very good, clear, helpful teacher. I would recommend the class.
Very clear explanations but must go to class for the notes...book is hard to follow and not helpful..she gives tons of stuff to study from like extra problems..recitation is helpful practice and easy points..midterms are fairly easy to the point..at times she explains things too much...so not brief but gets the point across
very fair, challenges us but gives alot of practice problems and extra help if needed. Very caring professor
She is THE best professor I have ever had at OSU. I went into her office hours regularly and man did it pay off in the end. With a great grade considering how hard the subject matter is. The book like people said before is horrible at explaining things, so go to class. I wish all my profs. were like her!
Her exams are fair if you go to class and do ALL/most of the practice problems given. She's real cool on a personal level. She does periodically mess up in lecture with her own notes but it's all good tho. She's one of the best proffesors at OSU.
Extremely easy! Teaches clearly with lots of examples. Exams easier than the homework. Added 10 points to scores on second midterm because the average wasn't high enough and then allowed final to replace both midterms.
the class isnt awful but i screwed it up. she wasnt too bad, but if you fall behind its tough to catch up...DONT FALL BEHIND
Stay on top of the material and you will do fine. Don't get freaked out if you do poorly on the midterms...I got a C and a B and nearly aced the final. Stay with the material, ask questions, and take the time to do your homework properly and you will do fine.
prof explained everything clearly and if you do your homework well and study the notes and book, u'll do well in this class
Very straight-forward in her teaching and helpful when you ask questions. The homework isn't too bad and shouldn't take too long. You should be set for exams if you study notes she gives in class and do the homework. Didn't need the book for much besides homework. Definitely attend class because she takes attendance as part of your grade.
Dr. Rumsey was one of the most helpful instructors I have ever had. There is a shortage of teachers in this world who believe in their students; she is among the few. Despite the fact of her profound standing in her field, her students are a tremendous priority to her and she, on an almost daily basis asks students to come to her office to get he
This professor is one of the best professor's on campus hands down! She knows her stuff and she's better at explaining things then her TA's. To do well in her class you must attend her office hours. You must study for her midterms and finals otherwise you will fail this class!
The class was tougher than I thought it'd be, but its not horrible. She replaces your lowest midterm with your final grade. Her notes are either really good or really bad, and is often busy during her office hours so you have to wait. When you do get in, she'll help you through everything.
She doesn't explain things very well because most of the time she does the wrong problem, or screws the problem up. Then she gets confused, which REALLY confuses the rest of the class. Her notes could be more organized, and her explanations could be more thorough. Make sure you study and do the homework. Homework/Recitation are an easy A
Pretty boring, but not the worst class I've taken! Kind of rambles on, & wants audience participation in a class of like 300. She had to go on medical leave & the night lecturer filled in & he was way better! I would suggest taking Draper.
Easy class, pretty good teacher...Rambles on- yes...but great opportunity to get good grade...
She is so nice and her explanations are pretty clear. The class is really easy, and she makes it as painless as possible with her good attitude.
doesn't explain everything just works on similar pratice problems that don't match up with the hw. I learned more from my TA then her. Take Draper, he's easier to understand.
Not a bad class. Go to lectures and look at her notes before exams. (She puts the notes online, but with blanks so you have to fill them in during class.) Book is helpful, but majority of the information comes straight from her notes. She tries hard to make lecture bearable.
the class material itself sucks theres no way to be interesting. she had an easy midterm consisting of verbatum suggested problems from the book. just do prac problems
notes are online, but with blanks. lectures can get very boring, but she explains everything very clearly so try your best to pay attention. overall, pretty good teacher.
Very friendly, but I ended up with a C+ because she loves multiple choice/TF questions on exams. For recitations my TA was absolutely terrible, often did things differently than Rumsey. There was no curve.
She is a very good teacher for this class. Go to lecture she makes things so much easier to understand and tries to entertain. Her examples are great. If you want a good grade DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS. If you know how to do all of them you will be fine on the weekly quizes and the application exam problems. Read her T/F carefully. She is nice!
Rumsey is da****. Take her if you can.
easy material, but she teaches in a way that makes you feel like a moron if you don't understand every word she says.
Pointless to go to lecture, just watch lecture online, and go to Rec., do your homework. I coasted through and got a B, with a little effort it is an Easy A.
Not a hard class, but not a good professor for it. She was very unorganized and unprofessional. She does not know how to work well with technology and would cry when her computer didn't work. She has her favorites, as well as people she dislikes, and ignores the rest of the students. As a regular 133 prof. she might be good, but not for H133.
I'm not sure how I stayed awake during the class. BORING.
i thought she was pretty nice. she struggles with technology (and its funny sometimes). cares about students - wants everyone to do well. not difficult, go to recitation. either go to lecture or watch online.
Prof. Rumsey is a true deligh!. I was apart of her first Stats H133 class and she did a great job of integrating statistical modeling to the class. The class was incredibaly interactive. The tests and exams were fair and covered material in class. I would strongly recommend this Professor and class to anyone who wants to learn!
Rums is a pretty good professor overall. She is very helpful when you need it. The only frusterating thing is that she explains the hard material just as fast as the simpler material. It's easy to get frusterated, but recitation is a life saver. Tough class, but she makes it alright. Everythingggg is on Carmen.
dr. rumsey is an awesome teacher. she gives great examples in lecture and really tries to make the class so everyone can pass. recitation is also helpful because you work on problems very similar to those on the tests. I'd recommend taking her if you have the chance. shes a wonderful teacher!
Dr. Rumsey is really nice and doesn't try to rush through the material, which is nice. Most of her lecture is useful examples that are similar to exam and recitation questions. This isn't a hard class but you have to go to recitation and you do weekly homework. Her lecture podcasts are really helpful for review too!
I think shes basically your only option for stats 133 if ur a bus. student...but its all good cause shes crystal clear, a lil boring, realllyyy nice...and stats is the easiest class a business student takes so dont even sweat it. lectures are online, midterms are easy, final was legit, shes basically always willing to help
Rumsey is amazing. So much so that I named my beer bong after her. Very approachable and always willing to help. One of my favorite professors at Ohio State. If she was my age I would marry her.
Easy class that I ended up not getting a good grade in. I would not recommend her. She says one thing and does other things. Class is pretty boring and showing up and paying attention didn't result in a good grade.
Very nice, organized, and approachable. Her Multiple choice questions are a bit tricky, so make sure you go to lecture or listen to the pod casts.
Memorize the slides and do all the HW, recitation problems, and old exams for the midterms and finals. Some questions on midterms are verbatim from old tests. Her voice is very annoying which can be destracting. other than that, an easy class if you keep on on material...no curve. MT averages usually in high 80's.
Deb is boring but it's difficult not to be when teaching concepts like correlation and binomial distribution. For exams, carefully look over power point slides and work on previous quarter exams posted on carmen. Like another rater mentioned, some of the MC Q's have the potential to be tricky but are usually directly interpreted from notes.
Super easy class. Attend lecture and recitations and study a little and it's an easy A. Class averages are in the high 80's which is decent. It's a boring subject, but Rumsey tries her hardest to make it fun and interesting. Online podcasts, practice exams, recitation problems, and other resources are available to make this class easy.
class is very boring, but u must go to recitation. She is very boring to listen to.
She wants you to succeed, and its obvious by the way she sets up the class. Homework is very reasonable, only about 45 minutes on average per assignment. Her exams are much easier than the homework, so don't be alarmed. Stats can be boring, but Rumsey is not a bad way to go through it. It was a welcome break from tough math and engineering classes.
1) Don't buy the book. I didn't open it once and I heard you don't use it in BM 330 either! 2) Exams are fairly easy and averages are pretty high 3) Rumsey is extremely horrible at wording questions (especially on the first exam). Every error I have made turned out to be from her unclarity. 4) Podcasts are way more worth it than going to lecture.
She is the easier prof I've had at OSU. Don't go to the lecture, she very conveniently has posted podcasts with everything you will ever need to learn. I ended up doing much better than many of my friends that sat in on each lecture.
If I passed her on the street I don't think I would know it, I went to lecture only to take the exams. You learn everything in recitation and are allowed to miss 4 recitations but you actually learn a ton in them so go to all of them if you can!
All of the lectures are on extremely helpful podcasts online so there's no need to go to class. She gives tons of practice problems and help before exams, and recitations are reviews for the tests. As long as you put in a moderate amount of effort studying, you should get an A.
Greatest teacher ever. She actually understands what its like not to understand statistics and math, so she gives really good intuitive explanations of the material. With her, no question is a dumb question. She makes you feel smart just by asking a question. Overall, greatest teacher ever.
She makes dumb mental math errors during lectures which are very boring. If you go to class and recitation you will be fine in this class. Very annoying how on 2 of the 3 exams it took her forever to post the grades. She'll tell you she'll post it in 5 days and in 5 days she'll tell you she needs 3 more days. The class is not too hard at all.
2 midterms, 1 cumulative final. Drop 3 assignments & 1 homework scores. The concepts will get more difficult as you go in deeper, but she explains clearly. The book was NOT used at ALL! Don't buy it! I didn't listen to previous reviews that said the same thing & bought the textbook. What a waste of money.
this class was not that hard, i went to most of the classes, the podcasts helped for what i missed. the practice midterms and final are exactly like the actual ones. she makes the class very easy, whereas it could be really hard, I got an A but to get a B+ or A- is not that hard if you study
She was a very helpful teacher. The class was overall not too difficult. The final was considerably more difficult than the previous midterms. The book is not needed for this class, however you will need it again for BUS MGT 330. Attend every lecture.
She is really nice and I think she comminicates the material well. The class itself isn't too easy, the exams are pretty difficult and all questions are equally weighted so missing 4 MC questions automatically gets you down ti an A-
Dr. Rumsey really means well and is a wonderful person. She?s more than willing to help students in need and it?s easy to see she cares about her students. Fair with her grading, but there was some disconnection; T.A.?s graded many of the assignments there were times whe she would say I had the right answer, and then I would get points taken off.
Dr. Rumsey is one of the nicest teachers I have ever encountered. She's also quite charming in a strange way. One great thing about her is that she tries hard to give everyone a good grade and really does look out for you. Statistics are obviously very important to her, and she does a good job teaching the basic concepts.

Easy class and nice teacher, but she's not clear at all during her lectures, which were a waste of time. I ended up teaching myself out of the textbook. She puts practice midterms and problems online which are very helpful for the midterms and finals.
The ONLY way to take Statistics at Ohio State! Rumsey has a great personality and a thorough understanding of the course material. She always had funny stories to help make the class more enjoyable and was more than willing to help students outside of class! The honors version is definitely worth the extra work - the case study rocks!
She is mean and harsh about home work, don't let anyone see or look at your homework ,even some's homework LOOKS similar like yours, she will put you to the hearing of the committe of academic misconduct!!!trust me! She is MEan! Especially for Minorities~
I really didn't enjoy going to that class very much. However I learned a lot and she was a very good teacher. Crazy at times, but does a great job explaining the material. Her tests aren't bad as long you do the practice exam. the homework can be tedious but she drops the lowest. Highly recommend taking her class.
Deb is the greatest teacher i have ever had without a doubt. Labs are not bad and teach you a lot i enjoyed going to class. Do the practice exams and review your lecture notes and you will do great in the class. Go to her office hours if you need help she will make sure you understand everything. Take her if your taking stats 133.
The online podcast helps people with different learning habits. I can't stay focused in class but I can focus perfectly watching the lecture podcast and replay the stuff if I need.
Use the online podcasts for sure! The exams seem easy but the multiple choice questions are really tricky and worth a huge chunk of your grade. The final is pretty hard too compared to the material taught in class. Do well on the first two midterms to get an A. No homework which is nice
The most organized professor ever. She has all the quarter's lectures online on Carmen via podcasts, so you don't even have to go to lecture if you think it's easier to learn online. Very clear and concise. Doesn't move fast at all.
She has her Pros and Cons like any prof. podcasts are online, but a out of date. Go to lecture! She tells you what is on the exam. You cant ask questions on any exams. Regrades are almost not worht doing because she prob wont give any points back. She is tough. work hard.
The class is not hard. 2 midterms and a final. There are homeworks and recitation grades. The first midterm was EASYYY but make sure tto not take that for granted, because the second is more challenging. You should take her class though, shes good and the recitations make it SUPER easy to understand the material!
The subject matter is a little dry, but she presents it as best as possible. Does not move at a very fast pace; makes sure students understand the material before she moves on. Does plenty of practice problems in class and provides plenty of online resources that you should definitely take advantage of. Cares about her students
Good Professor. Everything is at your fingertips for you to succeed. If you can't get at least a B or B+ in this class you probably did not put forth any effort in this class.
Class was easy but very boring. Go to lecture, take notes. If you can pay attention and get good practice through your recitation, you will do very well in the class. Do practice exams and study the 'big ideas' handouts that you will get in recitation. Should be an easy A if you do the work
One of my favorite teachers. Lectures are important because they do lecture note checks in rec and that's easy points. Podcasts help out a lot. Wish she was teaching another class. Crystal clear notes. Also, DO PAST EXAM QUESTIONS cause they will be on your exam.
I am not good at math but Dr. Rumsey is THE BEST teacher ever. She is so helpful, she explains everything in a way that you can 't not understand. I love this prof.
Dr. Rumsey is one of the best professors I had at OSU up to this moment. She was well organized, made the course interesting. I was actually able to learn stuff in the class even in the 9 weeks of classes she was given. The only draw back to the class was the students that were plain RUDE and dogged her for few mistakes she made in lecture.
Dr. Rumsey's lectures are pretty boring, but that's where you get the info. Don't buy the book, just take notes during lecture. They'll help you the most. The recitations is where you'll actually learn the material, so don't get frustrated if you don't understand it during lecture. Midterms were a little tough, but recitation grades made up for it.
good teacher, easy if you actually try some problems on your own. dont buy the book
Dr. Rumsey is an amazing professor. If she's available, take her. She makes stats relatable and relatively easy. One of the best profs I've ever had.
She is a very good teacher.
She truly cares about her students. She thanked my class for coming to lecture at 8 am. If you go to her office hours, she will not stop helping you until you fully understand. She is a great professor and tells you all you need to know for the exams. She is clear and genuinely wants you to learn this stuff. She doesn't try to trick you on exams.
She seemed to have been on her period today, she decided to make the final completely different from the ones she gave us online to study from. Her reasoning was because not enough people come to lecture. There's recitation two days a week and you learn the exact same thing. Just watched my grade go from an A to a C. Also left the final crying.
She's terrible. Lectures are useless. Made the final hard because no one wanted to show up and hear her ramble about stuff not relevant to the class. She's bitter, annoying, and overall a bad teacher. Doesn't care about her students at all.
Very organized and knowledgeable. However, she has a terrible attitude problem. The only time they offered the lecture this semester was 8 AM, and whenever I dragged myself there, she always had to complain and whine about how her being disappointed with the attendance. She made a similar tirade before the final too-she needs to get over herself.
Average teacher. Midterms were not bad, she provided plenty of study material for them. Final was unlike midterm and study materials provided. You must know concepts and how formulas work for the final. Does not use textbook except for last 2 sections. Teaches off of powerpoints.
Her lectures are helpful because she covers the material thoroughly and gives hints of possible exam questions. She is good at explaining things and wants her students to do well. If you study the lecture notes, review the recitation big ideas, and look over the old exams that she puts on carmen, you will do well.
A little bit eccentric, but fun (sometimes.) The recitation assignments help you learn the material and straighten out anything you don't understand. Midterms are a little rough. You can skip a few lectures, but you'll have to work to catch up. Don't buy the book. I used it a couple times just to look up a formula, and she gives you a formula sheet
Class is easy if you put the time and effort in. I went to cockins every week and understood exactly what was going on. f you put in the time you'll get an A
Dr. Rumsey is seriously the best! My favorite teacher by far this semester. She's very eager to help and loves questions. The work for this class is straight forward. She's the sweetest woman ever, and I learned so much!
Dr. Rumsey is one of my favorite professors I've ever had. The exams are simple, she puts up tons of practice exams that are very helpful. She always thanks the class for coming to lecture, and LOVES to answer questions. She knows what she is talking about, this class is an easy A. Do NOT buy the textbook. She will tell you that.
Class is pretty straightforward. Rumsey explains things in detail, makes it easy to understand. Pretty easy A if you put in some time.
Dr. Rumsey is awesome. If you put in the effort, you'll do fine. Very approachable and helpful if you go to her office hours. Don't need the book. Never used it once.
The grading takes forever.
Grading was VERY slow!!!! At times what was expected of the student was unclear. Go to class and recitation and you will be fine as long as you study. Not an easy A but an A is within reach with some effort.
I don't dislike Dr Rumsey, but I never found her lectures to be very clear (nor her explanations when I inevitably had questions). She tended to ramble, and sometimes explain things in a "shorthand" style that doesn't always translate to students. Recitation helped a bit, but overall, just re-listen to her podcasts if you feel you need a review
Use her stats for dummies book. I liked the format of this class, rec activities were a big help and the TAs rocked. As for Rumsey's lectures, you can skip them all and listen to her podcasts; they're much clearer + save you a trip. Do the practice exams; I did them and got an A+ on the first exam despite being clueless about the material.
As long as you go to lecture you should be fine. Also if you are confused don't be afraid to ask her questions, she is more than willing to help!
Dr. R struggles to convey concepts to students. The course is very boring, unorganized and there is never a course plan to reference - biweekly quizzes and homework have annoyingly inconsistent due dates. Expect typos and errors on every quiz. Lecture is unnecessary - online podcasts are all you need. If possible, choose one of the other lecturers.
Not a fan. Not clear and always seems to teach lectures confusingly or with mistakes. Multiple choice questions on the midterm are worth 1% of your final grade and on the final they are 2%. Try to take a different lecturer but cannot escape her because she is the department head and makes ridiculous recitation rules.
Dr. Rumsey was a decent lecturer. Her quizzes and recitation problems were always straight forward, but she puts some tricky multiple choice problems on the midterm and final that are much harder than any of the quizzes or work you do in class.
only need to be at recitation and a few lectures, one midterm and one final
She is not helpful at all. Her lectures do absolutely nothing and theres not really a chance to learn. Even the recitations are not helpful. Plus there was no textbook to teach yourself.
Avoid her at all costs! Lectures are long and her voice will put you to sleep. Grading criteria in recitation and Case Studies is never clear and you will never receive clear feedback on what you did. No extra credit, none, nothing, which is ridiculous considering how harsh she grades. Midterm was ok except for the mistakes she made writing it.
Horrible professor. Her lectures are literally the worst I've ever been to. They are long and extremely boring. She gets off topic a lot which doesn't help. The material for the class is actually pretty easy, her explaining it makes it seem more complicated than it really is. I taught myself everything and did well on the midterm and final.
Hate her. Lectures are boring. You could hardly understand what she mumbles in front. Better listen to podcasts. But still, the way she explain things is just plain boring.
Dr. Rumsey's class is not easy but if you put in a decent amount of effort and don't skip recitation (seriously you won't do well if you skip) you can get an A in the class. She's a great lecturer and really knows her stuff. You will learn a lot from her and you can tell she loves what she does. Great professor. I'd take her again.
Do not go to class, just watch the podcasts. (I know they are long, but it is very helpful.) Print off the powerpoint slides to take notes, it makes graded recitation wksts so much easier. (YOU MUST TAKE NOTES). Do HW and Case Studies with friends, the points really affect your grade. Midterm and final is easy if you go over the ppt notes you took
You have to take notes from either the lectures or podcasts. I really enjoyed her class though. If you have friends in the class work with them it makes things easier. She uploads a lot of helpful worksheets before the exams and a lot of the same questions show up.
1430 is the easiest class I've taken here. Don't go to lecture, they are extremely slow and dull, just watch the online podcasts. Case studies take about an hour and each homework takes about 5 minutes. Midterm was very simple, final slightly more challenging.
Dr. Rumsey is just an awful professor. The online homework is timed and graded by correctness so it's not homework at all, but a quiz. Youre thrown into recitations without having any practice and are expected to be able to answer questions correctly for a grade. There are stupid-nit picky rules that make the class a pain. Total joke of a professor
Going to lectures is a waste, she has podcasts online of the lectures and they're the same material covered in class. Recitations are required and are really your only option of practicing material. She provides a lot of material online that is good for studying. The online HWs are really just online quizzes and cover concepts rather than problems.
She got rid of the online lectures and started giving skeleton notes. Seriously one of the worst professors i've had and terrible when it comes to explaining concepts. Try going to class and writing down notes, it's impossible, she moves so quickly and is awful at explaining. such a pain.
She does a terrible job of explaining information throughout lecture. She just unloads mountains of information on you and tells you to know it.
I like Deb! She does a good job with the notes. All you have to do is print out the slides before class and fill them in as she goes through them. Don't try to take your own notes because she goes fast. Recitation worksheets are very helpful. She doesn't use a textbook which is nice. I think she is a great professor, just have to put in the effort!
She's a delight as a professor. Always starts lectures with something positive. Shame a lot of people tend to talk over her. Anyway, here is my suggestion. Get with 2 or three other smart people and have a study session before the exams, midterm and final. Go through the recitations one by one. Boom. Done. The class is really well organized.
The notes from lecture are exactly what will be on the exam. Basically no homework. Very easy class.
Stats 1430 is not extremly difficult but the lectures from Professor Rumsey are alright. Her notes are structured so you have to print out blank slides online before class and fill them in. She doesnt upload complete notes as well. 70% of the class grade is based off 2 exams. Recitation is not bad and helpful but her class could be better
Stats 1430 is not not difficult at all. Her Exams are basically from the notes. Exams are 70% of your final grade and there will be questions worded poorly. Best way to learn is by attending every recitations. Recitations will save your grade. HW is not bad at all. Just 10 questions quizzes on carmen.
As long as you attend every lecture and study the notes, this class should be an easy A.
Lectures involved just copying what she wrote on the board. If you print out the notes and just fill them in, class goes quickly. Only midterm and final which I barely studied for.
Dr. Rumsey is extremely intelligent and knows her stuff. Lectures are super boring, but it is stats, what do you expect? I recommend going because filling out the note outlines is the whole point of the class. Recitations are where you really learn the material. Midterm and Final are 70% of the grade, but have no surprises on them.
Deb starts every lecture with football highlights and is genuinely engaged and invested in our learning. She makes a lecture hall feel like a classroom. Good teacher, great person! Lectures optional but recitations mandatory.
Awesome lady!! Cares about her students and is willing to go over concepts until students understand them. Cares about how students feel about their recitation TAs as well which is soooo important! Gives you all the resources you need to succeed. Also starts class with fball vids which is so fun. No textbook needed!
Go to recitation or you will not learn anything. Recitation grades and the carmen quizzes will save your grade because the exams are worded so poorly and are hard. I know exactly what to do on every recitation and in every carmen quiz and then got to the exam and felt so lost. Make sure you go to lecture because they take note checks in recitation.
Best big class Ive ever had at osu. If you put in just a little extra effort youre definitely going to succeed in this class. So many resources to reach out to and a lot of opportunities to boost your grade. Its just great
Dr. Rumsey is a great stats professor. She's pretty funny and her lectures are very easy to understand.
She is a great lecturer. The work can be kind of tricky, but if you're analytical you should get at least an easy B+. Mandatory Recitation.
Beware: the worksheets and homework are very easy; but, they are only worth about 15% of the total grade. The midterm was semi-difficult (avg. C) and it's worth 35% of your final grade. I got a C+ on the midterm and went from a 96% to an 85%. Even if I get 100% on the final, I will not be able to get an A in the class /: Best advice: go to class!
Dr Rumsey is the best lecturer I've had. She really interacts with the class and tries to get to know you. She truly wants everyone to succeed and cares about her students. She's amazing def take her class if you can
Dr. Rumsey was a good professor, that was helpful to students that reached out. You have to attend her lectures, but she provides guided notes that you have to follow along with. The tests were both pretty difficult, but she provides plenty of material to study and prepare for both of them. Only take this class if you are already a business student
Deb was a great teacher but goes a little fast with lectures. Honors seemed as easy as regular and she made it even fun at some points. Like most courses, exams were a big part of the grade so study hard since recitations and participation barely do anything for your grade.
If you did well on midterm you prolly will get a good grade in the end. However, the midterm only covers a little bit what actual course material is. You don't even have to study the worksheets she gave you. I studied really hard on the worksheets and failed on the midterm lol
Definitely would recommend Dr. Rumsey. She cares about her students success and is really funny in lecture so theyre not boring. One midterm and cumulative final which are decently hard but overall the class wasnt extremely hard.
Dr. Rumsey is one of the most caring professors I have met at OSU. She wants all of her students to succeed. She has great music taste and is extremely passionate about football. If you take her, you will not regret it. Statistics wasn't that challenging because she makes everything clear during lectures.
The recitations were not helpful because it was just an hour long period where the tas neither taught or answered questions in a helpful manner. Notes were super unorganized and her midterm/final consisted of questions that were mention once in the notes. Don take stats here. Take the class at Columbus state where you get credit for 1430 and 2320!
Professor Rumsey wants to see you succeed. Go to class she explains things well and is willing to help outside of class. For the midterm and final do all the problems on Carmen. Recitation can be done at home. My TA didn't speak English very well so I had to learn a lot by yourself. The M&S Lab were not very willing or helpful with my questions.
Lecture isn't mandatory, but that being said all of her notes aren't posted online so you need to be there to learn the material. Recitation twice a week, harder than it should be but you should be able to get a good score on the worksheets. One quiz a week so its very low maintenance, the class is easy to fall behind on if you don't keep up!
The business stats department at OSU is just not that great. The set up of recitations didn't really enforce material well. Also the lectures were dry and difficult to concentrate on. The tests were also ridiculously difficult compared to everything else.
Deb is cool but the class is not easy. Its not created so that people do well. She says she wants everyone to get an A but there are so few people that actually get that. Make sure you go over recitations and do all practice problems and you should at least get 40% of the exam right. After that, the rest of the questions are just not fair game
Dr. Rumsey was a mediocre professor in every aspect. The lectures are normal (as in a bit boring) but they are critical. Every concept and example is covered in lecture through fill-in notes. Recitations are relatively easy and great practice. The tests are somewhat tough, especially the multiple choice, but she provides plenty of practice options.
Lecture is absolutely terrible. I learned more by trying to teach myself the material. Recitations are easy enough. Tests are incredibly misguided for a statistics class. There are multiple choice questions with random definitions from random slides. You can know 100% of the math portion, but still come out with an 85.
The midterm and final are very very difficult. There is a minimal amount of actual math-based calculation questions, so there is a lot of multiple choice questions that are very concept heavy, and very difficult. I found it very difficult to completely 100% master every little thing about every concept, which is necessary to do well on the tests.
Rumsey is not heplful, rude, asks for questions in lecture and when someone has one she gets pissed you don't understand her. For the final she gives you practice problems all for math but puts 30 multiple choice questions that are 6 points each and all conceptual which you never do in lecture or resitation. Does not prepare you for tests at all.
Deb is your best choice for Stat 1430 for sure. She keeps lectures somewhat fun and gets the material across well. Unfortunately, her tests are difficult and make up 70% of your grade. They consist of 25-30 multiple choice, then 5 easy work problems. The multiple choice are detailed and can get confusing. I liked Deb, but her class is not easy
i didn't think the class was hard as long as you do the recitations and put some work into understanding it. deborah was pretty chill and showed us pictures of her baby goat which was cool
Honestly, one of the worst professors I have ever came in contact with. She does not care about her students and she makes it very clear. She does not support a good learning community. Take sean O'neil instead. He works under her however It should absolutely be the other way around. Wake up Ohio State.
Probably the worst professor I have had at Ohio State. To get an A, you basically have to not make any mistakes. There is no time to practice the material as the first time trying it is graded. She refuses to curve anything. Exams are way harder than necessary. She also just doesnt seem to care about students, and I did not like her attitude.
I believe Prof Rumsey knows a lot about the subject. However, her ability to convey the material effectively is poor. Tests are tough, and she expects averages to be lower because it's an honors class. Don't expect curves.
Does not give the time of day to her students. Awful. Surprised that she is the department chair. Unprofessional with emails and seems like she never wants to help.
Dont mind my A grade in this class. It doesnt change the fact that Rumsey is the most inconsiderate professor ever. She is unprofessional and should not be running this class. She makes things harder than it should be a refuses to introduce other easier methods in solving certain problems. She only wants it her way. We need someone else who cares
Awful professor. Does not take time to explain concepts in a way that is easy to understand. The TAs are awful too and unwilling to teach material, they just tell you to look at your lecture notes. The professor is hard to reach and doesnt seem interested in helping her students. If you have the option, do not take this class.
Possibly the most inconsiderate professor Ive ever had. Wont respond to emails. Carmen has no notes on it so if you miss class you are SCREWED (the answers she posts are misformatted and dont even show answers). Tests are entirely conceptual and dont even contain math. All trick questions about concepts. Worst prof Ive literally ever had.
She makes the tests as conceptual as possible. The final was online due to coronavirus and she decided to make it significantly harder than the midterm, which caused the average to be 10% less than the midterm. The business stats department is garbage
The class was already tough, then due to the coronavirus, it goes online, the recitations get harder, then the final exam was over things we barely covered. Her reasoning for not curving the final was trash despite the average being far less than the midterm. As a statistician, youd think she would see the issue. I wish this text box was bigger
Dr. Rumsey focuses on making sure enough people just pass the class. If you can't take exam all that well you will fail the class. She gives no curves unless the entire class fails the class. If you are already good with stats, you'll do fine, but for those who are not, prepare for a B.
Rude and inconsiderate
exams are much harder than what she goes over in lecture. recitations are done with partners and are easy to get a good grade on. overall, exams make up most of final grade, she does not curve final grade. not great at responding to emails, pretty much no way to bring up your grade if you dont do well on exams. attend all recitations and lectures!
She teaches in a way the nobody learns from, more specifically, she doesnt teach she simply does problems and expects you to know whats going on, why and how to do other problems. Im not the only one in my class who doesnt know whats going on and I show up to every class. Ive had to teach myself this class. Good luck unless you a math genius.
Dr. Rumsey is the best teacher I have had at OSU. She is caring and goes out of her way to help students succeed by hosting extra office hours and sending out weekly reminders. The lectures are short and super easy to follow and the work is easy if you go to recitation. I have never had a professor care about their students as much as she does.
This professor puts very little effort into this class. She posts weekly podcasts with very basic examples but the exam questions are worded differently and more confusing. The graded Homeworks in recitation is terrible, basically, you're put in a zoom room and have to do the worksheet together and it's a struggle. Get ready to teach yourself.
Lecture notes are only outlines but is very specific within podcasts. Short podcasts which help focusing! There were review podcasts, review sessions and a lot of practice questions. She replies email really fast, is very patient during office hours to explain the concepts. Sends encouraging announcement every week! Ask for help and will get an A!
It was a pleasure having Dr. Rumsey as a teacher. Even with covid affecting not only the student, it affected many professors and she still showed great enthusiasm and care for the student. It is evident that she cares about the student and wants them to do great. She reached out to me multiple times when I did bad on things. Thank you
Dr. Rumsey really cares about her students and puts a lot of effort into helping them succeed. She gives a very generous curve on the midterm and the final. Homework and quizzes are not too difficult as long as you pay attention in lecture and ask questions in recitation. She could've explained the material more than just doing example problems.
Dr. Rumsey was easily the best professor Ive had at OSU. Weird year due to Covid, but I simply watched all of her online lectures, filled out the lecture outlines, and went to recitations. She gives great feedback after weekly quizzes. All around awesome professor and I would highly suggest taking her class.
I really enjoyed this class, and I learned a lot, including that I really like statistics. There were so many opportunities to get help and many resources made available to aid me in learning the material including multiple times for recitation, office hours, and tutor rooms. The key to success in this class is to be consistent and ask questions!
Very disorganized professor. All the examples in the notes were basically chicken scratch. I did well in the class but had to teach myself. The TA was incredible though. She bombards you with messages every day reiterating the same info. Maybe if she weren't so disorganized, she would've put all that info in the syllabus.
She has been a real help to me in understanding the topics, especially during office hours! I can tell she is passionate about making sure her students pass. I would definitely recommend her as a Stat 1430 instructor!
Amazing, and oftentimes stayed well past her office hours to help students. I was worried since I'm not a math person and it was all online due to COVID. Her lecture podcasts were super helpful and she was ALWAYS available. She really cares about her students. Make an effort and go to office hours, and you will do great! she's amazing 100/10
It's hard to limit the good things to say about Dr. Rumsey. Let me say this she is the best professor you will have thats that. Other than that she is an amazing person. She cares alot about each and every one of her students. I have never had a more beautiful soul instruct me than Dr. Rumsey. If you didnt know now you know take this class. Thanks
Rumsey was the best teacher I could have asked for in Stats. Her lectures make sense and she goes over example problems for every possible situation that might show up on the exams. The workload in her class is just right and if things become overwhelming, she is willing to help you out. Also, the pictures of the baby goats from her farm were cute.
Awful professor. She was nice through her lectures but rarely gave proper and helpful feedback. Her final project is brutal, and she gives little guidance.
Rumsey was extremely insensitive to everyones situations SP21! There were multiple instances where she chose by the book rules over her students needs in a pandemic. She even hypocritically sent us an email about TAs being burnt out from grading like WE werent the ones doing the assignments. She also refused to adjust l grades after the final
With this course being the first time I took statistics, Dr. Rumsey truly made this class an amazing experience, even in the midst of such difficult times. Dr. Rumsey was super helpful in explaining concepts, providing strategies to solve problem sets, and was so supportive throughout the whole semester, even sharing wonderful goat pictures!
Dr. Rumsey is a great professor who was able to explain very difficult stats topics. She is very accessible outside of class and as long as you pay attention during her lectures, you can do well on recitation and quizzes. The best way to succeed in this class is to utilize the tutor rooms and practice all the homework problems before doing the exam
I really enjoyed taking STAT 1430 online. The lectures basically covered all the necessary information on the quizzes, but there were some things that were a bit unclear from the lectures that I wish were more clear. However, overall as long as you put in the work, you can get an A in this class.
Great prof! She genuinely cares about her students succeeding. The class had prerecorded lectures and recitation worksheets (similar to exams). The key to the class is to attend office hours with questions. Dr. Rumsey is extremely approachable and happy to answer questions! She will gladly go over the whole question with you if you're stuck!
Great lecturer.
Professor Rumsey is fantastic, but she does not do most of the interaction in this course. The TA for this was not effective at all, and she was honestly just rude and awkward. It made it much harder to learn. Luckily, the profs lectures were very helpful and she went over everything in depth. The exams are what killed me here.
Rumsey didn't interact with us in this course- just TAs, but I did watch her recorded lectures, which only took about 45-60 mins/week to watch (amazing!). However, I think the lectures sometimes didn't really help with the recitation worksheets (though I am up for the challenge), so I think there could be some improvement there. Overall, not bad!
Professors only interaction was prerecorded lectures. The lectures were helpful for homeworks but not at all for exams which are worth a large chunk of your grade. The class was taught in live time with TAs. I had two of them and they did the best that they could with an unorganized class but I wouldnt consider them helpful.
The way that lectures were set up made it very difficult to understand the recitation assignments which were a big portion of our grade. They didn't always use the same techniques that she taught. I was only off 0.3% for the semester and it wasn't rounded up, so be prepared for that ahead of time, I was expecting a basic round up. No extra credit.
Dr. Rumsey is super caring and flexible for her students. Took the online version and there was an hour of lecture content per week. If confused (which you might be since the concepts are complex), DO NOT HESITATE to ask her questions! Dr. R does her absolute best to guide students towards success and will help in any way possible! Highly recommend
I have seldom seen anyone put the level of care into teaching an intro lecture as Dr. Rumsey has. She's clearly interested in making sure that you understand the material and have the keys to succeed in the class. Go to her office hours! She'll help you thoroughly and will do so very kindly, often staying past her hours to see everyone.
Dr. Rumsey was awesome! Going to her office hours really helps and you also form a relationship with her. She really cares about your grade and will help with anything you need, you just have to ask! I am not a very great test taker which is why I did not get a better grade but I did learn a lot!
Her recorded lectures are much more clear than her in person lectures. She tends to get distracted which makes things confusing. She does though write the exams so be prepared for the exam to be conceptual not calculation based. The exams are hard because they felt unrelated to what we learned, but they curve so thank god. Go to recitation!!
First month of the semester, she made recitation nonmandatory and an extra credit assignment. I joined this class late and she refused to excuse from a lecture quiz only worth 5% of our total grade. She could be more accommodating. Overall, though, not a bad professor. Without trying, you could probably get a C. Just be prepared for BUSOBA2320
Her online lectures were what got me through the class. Watch them at 1.25x speed and rewind if you have to. She explains the content pretty clearly and with good examples. She also sends out a weekly email to keep you on top of everything.
Dr. Rumsey saved me in stats, I recommend watching her online lectures instead of attending your in person lecture. She covers the whole weeks content in under an hour and takes clear notes that make everything make sense.
This was my first stats class I've ever taken and honestly wasn't too bad. I liked how Dr. Rumsey kept her online lectures
I had an A the entire semester until the final exam, which I did poorly on. I was at work and once I saw my grade I immediately emailed her to try to look over my final since it was not in alignment with how I did all semester. She told me that she was off until next semester and to email her then. She has 0% interest in her students' learning.
Professor Rumsey was on medical leave the entire semester, she seemed to not want to do anything with the class and leave it to the TAs. Doesn't care about her students and her online prerecorded lectures are the most boring thing I have ever watched. Final also doesn't cover what is on the practice material so dropped my grade from a B+ to C-.
Had an A (96) up until the final which was nothing we covered in class, dropping my grade to a B+. I have no words for her or this class, her TAs were nice but she has no interest in her students. Honestly, getting an A is definitely doable just review past quizzes and practice tests! I had many holes in my learning due to her medical leave though.
A lot of people hate on her, but I actually liked her. I started using her online lectures and I understood everything clearly, better than in-person lectures. The exams are tricky tho. It's more statistical common sense questions (esp the final) than actual math problems you have to work out. Understand the why&how and not just the forumulas
She explains things like everyone took stats before, rushes through her videos, and I haven't seen her one time at all and she is supposed to be our teacher. Her homework takes forever and most of of the time it 10 times harder then what we learned in class. Her midterms are tricky. If you took stats before it might be easier for you. good luck!
Learned a lot. I know how I can use it on business.
Prof Rumsey is an amazing instructor. Clear examples, natural American English speaker, fair tests and grades, and she loves Buckeye football too.
I have never taken stats, but I took all the way up to calc 3 in high school. This was either the worst taught class I have ever had or it was just set up very confusing. The two exam format is awful because there are too many topics to cover. The practice exams are nothing like the tests. My recitation TA barely spoke english.
Recitation assignments are unnecessary hard, TA's are beyond useless, makes showing up to recitation mandatory, the actual content isn't too bad but she uses statcrunch which is unnecessarily difficult. No grade rounds ups, doesn't accept late work, good at explaining the concepts, overall kind of easy class, but she isn't at all understanding.
The professor is good, but not cares too much about students. The homework is heavy, you need to finish all the questions, but they just randomly select 5 questions to grade(2 points each). The tests are not difficult. Just depend on yourself, don't believe in your TA!!! Some TAs even offer you the wrong answer when you ask simple questions...
Although I never met her, I didn't like her. She was not on the same page as her lecturers and TAs, causing confusion. Also the final is worth like 30% of your final grade and is only 25 multiple choice questions. It was a very easy final, but the mean was a 79%, and she thought that was very good. If you know what you're doing, you will get an A.
Deb Rumsey was great! She is super engaging in lectures and you can tell she cares SO MUCH about her students. Her lectures are clear and the exams are fair. If you study and go to all the lectures, you should get an A.
Deb Rumsey was overall a good professor. She cared for her students and was very clear about what you should expect. Personally, I wouldn't go to her in-person lecture because I found them to be a waste of time. On the other hand, I would recommend going through her online lecture videos. Just try your best and you'll be fine.
Deb has good lecture videos that are easy to follow and understand, but I had a very bad TA which made the class way more difficult than it had to be. It matters more who your TA is rather than the professor. The mid-term and final are also 65% of your grade so study a lot for those.
Definitely an above average professor. I had no problems with Dr. Rumsey. She was funny, and the in person lectures were useful I also thought the class material itself was easy, and the structure made a lot of sense. A good amount of weight on the exams, but they're not too difficult. Final grade average was an 80%.
Debs the GOAT. Her lectures can be boring but she is such a genuine person and you can tell she cares about every student. She'd have us send in pictures of our shoes of the day, watch football highlights during the season, and she invited us to her ranch at the end of the semester. You gotta lock in and do the work if you wanna pass tho.
From what I see this experience may be exclusive to the online version of the class, but I found 1430 to be a major pain. The TA's are some of the worst I've had thus far and would even be late to the zoom classes. The lecture podcast videos can sometimes be hard to follow as well. I suggest taking this class in person, as the online was bad
Don't understand all the 5 star reviews. Is she really nice and caring? Yes, but does that translate to the class being enjoyable and understandable? No. The worksheets in recitation take quite a bit of time and it's a toss up on the grade you'll get on them. You won't learn anything in lecture, as she is a little all over the place when teaching
Recitation worksheets are long and redundant. Oftentimes the same question over and over with different numbers. TAs are no help either. Recitation attendance is mandatory and they don't take attendance til the end of class and won't give it to you if you haven't been there the entire time.
Very underwhelming professor. Obvious to tell she lost all motivation to teach students compared to the time she created a whole statistics book. Required useless recitation, long (VERY LONG) recitation worksheets, and changed her exams from all multiple choice to MC and short answer. Pretty unfair
DISCLAIMER: SHE ONLY WAS RATED 5 BY PEOPLE BECAUSE SHE IS NICE. This is college, not high school. Her being nice did not mean she was helpful. Did not teach well, assigned very long recitation worksheets and had all TA's who could barely speak english. Very bad class
WATCH HER VIDEOS. gave up going to scheduled lecturer and switched to watching her posted lecture and they were great. Only took ~45 of watching to understand concepts for the week. TAs sucked and recitation is more of a free work period with mandatory attendance. If you want a good grade, watch her lecture vids and they cover all concepts on tests
I took this class in person, but I just watched the online lectures, which were really helpful. Attendance for recitation is required, but you get 4 excused absences. Recitation assignments take a really long time. I find Professor Rumsey's online lectures more helpful than in-person personally.
Get khan academy ready you will not learn anything from the in person lectures or recitations. You will basically be teaching yourself. There were only two exams, mid term and final.
