Take this class!!! Greak Myth is GREAT
Good teacher, class boring and way easy.

SHE IS SOOO ANNOYING, but incredibly easy!
Easy class. She's nice and silly. Take GREEK MYTH!
Greek myth is an easy class, the material is interesting...not a lot of work

Sometimes fails miserably at being nice. Effective teacher though
She comes off a little crazy, but she's lots of fun. She's very interested in what she teaches. She does a great job with assignments.
She may come off like she's on another planet, but that's just because she's really excited about her work - something you rarely get here at UMass. Take her class, she's fun and grades fairly.
She is a good teacher, but is very demanding with the languages.

Easy class if you attend most of the time, dont have to read if you take notes, easy and interesting material

Good teacher. Fun in class, although a little dorky at times, but aren't we all. Loves her mythology and teaching it (especially when you buy her book for the class and, oh, there are no sell backs on this one, not even in the wrapper).
BEst teacher i have had at UMASS!!! Her class is so interesting and you can tell she really loves waht she does..Going to class is fun becuase she tells lots of stories.. Just make sure you go to class and take good notes... i got an a/b...very nice lady

easy, interesting, good prof

Great professor, especially dedicated and energetic for a large class. Her quizzes are multiple choice and very picky, tests on the other hand are essay and very easy. There is lots of reading, but it is easy and interesting.
Dr. Felton is a great professor. She is very cheerful and energetic when it comes to teaching the subject. It's an easy course as long as you take good notes.
She teaches with a lot of enthusiasm. The way she teaches make you pay attention and not drive you to sleep. It was a pretty interesting course. There were lots of reading assigned, but as long as you take good notes, you'll be fine.
She seems to know her information, but talks down to the class as if they won't understand. Seems nervous and giggly in lectures. She is the low point of the UMASS Classics department.
Greek Drama. She didn't talk down to the class at all. There were no prerequisites, so she started everyone off at the same point. She was very thorough, and if that bores, take an independent study. She considers all students needs and doesn't rush students. Not everyone is a Classics major.

Interesting stuff, and she was so sweet :) Quite helpful and very knowledgable

She's pretty good, but a bit giggley
I thought this class was going to be fairly easy, but after the first exam, I wish I hadn't taken it. I got a 55 on the first exam (an extremely unfair test given that I put hard work into studying), which is a lot lower than any score I have gotten before. She is not a very good speaker in class, and her newborn son is going to be very ashamed.
She's more difficult than you think, but I believe if you work hard enough, you will do well. My recommendation: take REALLY good+detailed notes. This goes especially for those complaining about the first exam, which I got a 92 on, thanks to my LONG but VERY HELPFUL notes. In short she's not as easy as one thinks, but hard work will get you an A.
worst professor ever, goto class if ur tired and want ot take a nap and listen to someone rabble on and on. Worst grading system ever, dosnt prepare you for tests no review, she should be teaching a preschooolers class.
this class is easy if you read the book RELIGIOUSLY!!!!! the tests for this class were graded so unfairly, maybe it's just the TA's but, i would steer clear.
I was really interested in the subject beforehand. i attended every class, took notes on everything possible, did the owls, did the readings, and got a C on the first test. she doesnt give study guides, she doesnt give review sessions. even in emails she's very unclear and vague in response to questions. interesting, but dont expect grade u deserve
I'm willing to bet that those who left negative to horrible comments did so because they didn't like the grade on their first exam. Here's a tip, just as the Prof. said: 75% of the class expected to get A to A- in the beginning of the class. I think it's student's expectations that needs adjustment, not the Professors teaching methods. Work hard~
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS FOR A GENED, WHATEVER YOU DO. Tons of information to study for exams and only a small portion of it is actually on the exam itself. I spent a week straight studying for my last exam and got a 70. Please please dont take this class, you'll cry yourself to sleep EVERY SINGLE NIGHT
This class is fairly easy if you take really good notes and actually try to pay attention instead of blowing off the lectures as stupid. Do the OWL assignments from your lecture notes and supplement it with the readings. Use the OWL assignments as study guides for the exams because they ARE the study guides for the exams. Not hard if you try.

i think the person writing the previous good reviews is either a ta or the prof herself because they are too preachy and advice giving - anyone who takes this class knows that it sucks - she doesn't use powerpoint nor does she give review sessions for her impossible tests - she is also extr. rude - she should really go teach a kindergarten class
I went into the class thinking that it would be an easy A. Man was i wrong. The lectures are ridiculously boring and she is the goofiest person ever. The tests are short answer and absolutely impossible to finish on time. The book is 500 pages and she assigns 200 on every test. Her notes are completely pointless. bottom line - horrible class
This is not an easy class, lots of reading and she is out of her mind. Thinks every comment is funny and doesn't explain things as well as she could. Keep up with the readings and owls, study a lot, should be ok
This class sucked. Not clear on what you are being tested on. She does not give a study guide for her tests. I was very unhappy with the overall class. I enjoy learning greek myth and she just destroyed it.
She is a frekin nutjob who giggles at every little thing and asks u every 2 seconds if you can see the overhead slides, greek myth is interesting but she blasted it with a rifle and dragged it through hell, don't take any of her classes
the woman was a complete lunatic. she spoke too fast and all over the place, brought her personal issues into play, would ask if anyone had any questions and then told them that they should already know the answer to the question they asked. she threatened students. it was absurd. she pleaded that no one bring a gun to class. PS i got a 93 on exam1
A lot of work for a gen ed but prof is very enthusiastic and always answered my emails
Some of those comments sound like some sour grapes from students expecting an easy class. My roommate and I liked this class so much we are taking her class next semester. She's quirky but not your usual stuffy prof.
Hi folks, I took her for two classes (Greek I and Drama) and was pleased. If you prepare before class, you will not only understand what she is saying, but you will grow to like her and her "giggling." She is a good person and a very good teacher in that she is always prepared for class. Don't judge her based on your own intelligence! Peace, xoxo
A bit quirky, but very enthusiastic about teaching. She is also very approachable and easy to talk to. There may be a lot of work, but as long as you go to class and keep up w/ the reading you should do well. I highly enjoyed this class and would recommend her to anyone intestest in taking greek myth (or other classics courses).

She is a fun teacher and always has a cheerful attitude even when she is sick. She is a fair person. Her exams are relatively easy if you do the readings. If you have questions, she is more than willing to answer them. :)
Her tests are so easy if you look at the online study guides...she pulls the questions off of them.
horrible teacher...don't go to class - all the tests are verbatum from the ten thousand readings that you have to do... class notes are not helpful - we spent 1 whole week going over the gods and goddesses and not a single q on the exam was on them. baaad classs...
Interesting material, and fun presentation.
After the first test you'll realize what she wants. Her notes are terrible no need to go to class at all! Just do the readings and you'll be fine.
SUCH A BAD TEACHER AND THE CLASS NOTES ARE USELESS FOR STUDYING FOR THE TEST
cheerful, tries to make class fun, but has trouble getting class to settle down--needs more authority
Lots of reading, exams are relatively easy. No study guides or review sessions for exams which is really retarded. Gets very annoying when she keeps laughing at the stuff she says even when it isn't funny. Too many references to Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, and Harry Potter. She insulted the class twice in 2 lectures; really unprofessional
I really liked this class. Granted, at the beginning of the year her random giggling was kind of annoying, but after a few lectures you don't even notice it anymore. She's very nice, class notes do go into slightly more depth than the book, but attending class isn't essential. Tests are really easy. Great class, as long as you're interested.
It's very unfortunate to have such low quality class in UMass. Rushing through material is normal when an instructor misses lectures 4,5 times for random reasons. She is very boring, but I felt bad for her, and how students treated her sometimes.
Great prof! Love her enthusiasm. Really knows her stuff. Fun class.
She is SO enthusiastic and LOVES what she does! I find the random giggling to be charming. There is a good amount of HW but it's so easy and it reeeally helps you learn the material. GREAT professor!
Love her, she's extremely fun and charming. Her 224 class is very easy, but also very interesting. I didn't even buy the book for the class, and I got 100 on the last exam. The only issue I have is how the essays are graded (oh yeah, there are essays).
she's wicked easy. all you gotta do is attend class and take a few notes. you dunt even have to read the book and you'll do good. i got over a 100 on all my exams and passed the class with an A.
Professor Felton is really giggly and funny. She gets embarrassed about some of the things she talks about, but she gets through it and makes it fun. There are extra credit opportunities, but she's easy to understand, it's hard to fail.
Professor Felton is a fun teacher, sometimes she can be a little wierd. I'm pretty sure she wears the same clothing to class every day idk. But overall good professor the class is pretty easy but the final isnt what you expect.
She is a great professor. Really knows her subject, and is really nice. She talks a little fast but you won't even notice it after the 2nd class. Her tests are pretty well made. Just take notes on her lectures since she doesn't upload 'em online.
Debbie Felton is awesome and I loved this class. Would take it again in a heartbeat. You don't really need the book, so I recommend renting it if you get it.
Most annoying teacher ever, all she does is laugh after every word she says. Everything about this class is awful. Took it as a GenEd and immediately regretted it. The homework assignments should be easy but they're not. If you don't have to take it then don't
I feel bad for the person below me cause the course is very straightforward and easy. It may at first seem like a lot of readings, but you only need to skim them and attend lecture for the real stuff. Only 4 HWs that you work in groups so they aren't that bad. Exams are super easy scantron questions. She does laugh a ton but is super nice!
Prof Felton is kind of rude when responding to questions on her syllabus but overall a great teacher. Tests are incredibly easy. Basically if you can remember a story you will be fine. Going to class is a must but the info is at least interesting enough that you wont want to stick a pencil in your ear.
I took origins of western medicine and medical terminology with professor Felton. I highly recommend it but only if it interests you. I tried so hard in this class and enjoyed every minute of it. There are quizzes in most classes that are easy if you pay attention. It just takes a little getting used to her and then the class is great!
5 in class group assignments that were graded pretty easily. Two tests during the semester and a final; her tests were not an appropriate measure of material comprehension. She sometimes words things as a trick; other times the "most correct" answer is debatable. Her scale also seems funky as an 87% is a B, not a B+. Funny and interesting; take P/F
I've had professor Felton many times throughout my college career. I've always found her way of teaching and grading great for my personal learning style. Her exams are very straight forward, everything she puts on the exam was in your readings and mentioned in class. She points out the important things in class so take good notes and read!
Professor Felton is a very balanced instructor. I took several courses with her, and in each she supplies numerous examples of the information she wants you to learn via readings, lectures and group projects. All of her exams draw directly from this material; very few surprises. She also responded promptly to emails and held regular office hours
Professor Felton was wonderful in nearly every way. She is understanding, compassionate, and more than willing to work individually with students. Also, her various studies were fascinating! My only complaint is that the class was too large for discussions, but that was no fault of hers.
Class was okay, seemed too difficult for a gen ed. Prof is nice and all but the classroom was horrible. Too many kids for one room, hot and desks are all squished together. Too much work for a gen ed class but kinda interesting I guess. Don't take this class if you don't like classics. It's less medical and more classics unfortunately.
Easy A
I have taken several classes with Professor Felton. She is very sweet and genuinely caring. She is a bit of a hard grader and does genuinely require that you pay attention in the class. But with effort, it is easy to get an A while in her course. I would highly recommend this professor. Her lectures are also very interesting!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO. I took this class as a HS requirement and the Exams are extremely hard, not worth it.
I want to preface this review saying that Professor Felton is one of the kindest professors I have come across during my time at Umass, very kind and wants to see everyone succeed. But If you do not HAVE to take classics 330 I do NOT advise doing so. It is way too difficult for a gen ed. The tests are crazy difficult and very specific. Lot of hw.
I took this as a GenEd. There are quite a few readings that need to be completed before each class. Each reading assignment would take me at most an hour. Attendance is part of your grade. Exams are open response. I'll admit, I did quite a bit of studying for the exams. Maybe too much for a GenEd. Debbie is super sweet though.
You want some background on Ancient Greece or Rome before going into Classics 330, but if you have that, this course is a wonderful GenEd for Classics enthusiasts. Professor Felton was very enthusiastic about the topic and totally accessible outside of class. Her grading was clear and lenient, although the exams were quite a bit of open-response.
[too long to type out]
Prof Felton is wonderful! She's enthusiastic and very knowledgable. I highly recommend to anyone going into healthcare; it provides fun mythological and historical context. She doesn't try to trick you and really wants you to do well. Do the readings, attend lectures, and know forms/pre/suffixes, easy A. Optional final exam, 2 short 1-page papers.
If you are not a classics major do not take this class, you need knowledge of classics. Felton has many issues in the way she teaches, grades and helps students. It is clear she has favorites in her classes. It is also clear she loves classics but forgets not everyone is, DO NOT TAKE FOR GEN ED YOU WILL MOST LIKELY STRUGGLE (I am a classics major)
Professor Felton loves what she teaches but I don't recommend her class. The readings are interesting but sometimes egregiously long. Be weary of her papers, she doesn't grade on what you say but how well you fit within her standards of how you should write. Her grading is never consistent and the quizzes were incredibly hard, beware.
Generally a very unforgiving professor. This class consisted of work that was either laughably juvenile or much too difficult. Insanely harsh grader. Attendance AND participation are heavily factored into your grade. Would not recommend her classes unless you have prior knowledge or possess a very strong interest in the subject.
DO NOT TAKE HER FIRST YEAR SEM. It will only add extra stress to your first semester unless you are VERY interested in the subject matter. Basically just felt like almost anything was overcomplicated (long readings, reflections graded for word choice, etc.) Just be ready to have to put in more effort than is maybe deserved for a one-credit class.
