Great teacher. Real sweetheart. Always looking to help you whenever she can. But the field trips can be a bit much. Great lady.
Fun class. Know your notes and you will be just fine.
She was pretty hard, but she was the most interesting teacher I've ever had. She is very helpful and explained the material well. But you need to know your stuff for the tests.
Debbie is awesome. She's by far one of the best professors I've had. Her class involves a lot of work, but she helps you as best she can and its so much fun (she brings in a new organism every day that you get to play with and learn about).
Take the notes and study. Her study guide pretty much tells you to read the chapter.
Debbie's class is not what you would call easy, but of course no honor's class really is. She requires you to know your stuff for your tests, so if you want to slack this is not the class for you.
AWESOME professor!!! i absolutely love her class! it's not the easiest class in the world, but if you know your stuff you will definitely make A's. She is extremely helpful and fair; you are lucky if she is your professor!
Hard class but very willing to help you out.
dr. folkerts is a great lady. go to class! and take notes. this class is a lot of memorization but it is doable. just read the notes according to her study guides and it is a breeze.
She is the best biology teacher ever! She makes things perfectly clear and brings all her pets to class to pass around. It's not easy unless you really learn the stuff, but if you do an A is no prob.
Absolutely awesome teacher - incredibly smart, friendly, helpful, and brings these cool animals to class. The tests are challenging, but if you take great notes you'll be OK. The only downside is that you'll know how to speak Latin after the class ends.
Nice person but hard class. The labs are hoorible. Her tests are very detailed. Have to go to class to take notes. Hard to study for her tests. I wish I took Bowling.
A Great teacher. She is very helpful and her tests are easy if you study.
She covers alot of material in class and you will find every bit of it on the test. She is hard but fair. She will throw out unfair questions on the test. BE PREPARED TO STUDY!!!
Must go to class. Tests very detailed and contain many random tidbits she throws into lectures but arent in the book. Interesting class but must take good notes. Labs lengthy.
Mrs. Folkerts is a great teacher and will help you out whenever you have trouble. It is a pretty easy class if you go to class and study the notes she has given you.Don't buy the book-I made an A and never opened it. Waste of $90
SHe is a very helpful teacher. I had fun in her class b/c she isn't boring. Test require some thought but she makes it fun. She just needs to Curve her tests scores.
Dr Folkerts is awesome! This class has sooo much information in it, but she makes it really interesting and you really learn a lot from it. I enjoyed going to class! Her tests can be fairly difficult, but they come straight from the notes. Great teacher!
Dr. Folkerts is very nice & tries to make the class interesting. It is A LOT of material, and she goes FAST. You do need to study on a daily basis to do well. (No kidding). The lab wasn't a breeze either... identifying phyla etc.
I had her last semester, and despite not passing(I seriously underestimated the amount of material and detail on her tests), I was quite pleased with Dr. Folkerts. I would recommend her to anyone, with the important message that you need to be mentally prepared to do real, hard-core studying.
Dr. Folkerts was an awesome teacher. I had her last semester, and I think pretty much everyone in our class really liked her. She makes learning fun, and she brings all kind of cool animals to class! Just be sure to write down everything she says, even the little side notes! Tests are detailed.
Dr. Folkerts is awesome! She always brings stuff to class for that day's lecture topic. Test are hard, but do a lot of studying in this class. Makes class interesting.
Best professor I have ever had since coming to Auburn. She is one of the nicest people I have ever met an you can go to her for anything, class related or not. If you have the opprotunity to take her class, do it. But work hard, cause she is a tough teacher, but excellent.
This is a tough class for a freshman biology class but Dr. Folkerts is an excellent teacher. She brings lots of examples to class to illustrate what she'll teach about that day. Old test will help to study, and studying is a must, but she is an AWESOME teacher.
THE BEST BIOLOGY TEACHER AT AUBURN. My favorite class to have taken so far... She has challenging tests and if you don't go to class you won't do well. If you are interested in the subject and willing to work a little, you will love her. No comparison to any other biology teacher on campus. Take her
THE BEST TEACHER AT AU She really makes class interesting and a lot of fun. If you take honors she brings animals to class everyday and lets you play with them. There is a lot of material, but most of it is fairly easy. You have to take notes and study to pass though.
Dr. Folkerts is tough but she is very clear with her expectations. Tests are very detailed and studying is a must. Do not take the material for granted. Study hard at the beginning and it will get easier when you move on to animals, rather than plants.
She teaches in such a fun and exciting way! Honors classes see a new "Organism-of-the-Day" daily, and it is very interesting! You will need to take good notes in class, and study a few days in advance of the test in order to memorize everything well!
She does bring in material in to class to help you learn (ie animals, plants, etc) Here material she teaches and the material on the test don't always match!! You must study for this class in order to pass!! The class feels like it is very unorganized and the lab practicals are very hard to pass... The class average was a D... take Dr. Bowling!
Such a cute and sweet lady! She always brings in animals to pass around the class. It is very easy to find copies of her old tests, and if you study about 3 of the old ones, you're golden! Her lectures are really interesting and if you go to her, she is always willing to help. I HIGHLY reccomend taking Mrs. Folkerts!
very funny and also extremely nice. she tries very hard to learn everyone's names and treats all questions, even stupid ones with respect. she has picky tests, but if you study you will be able to get at least a B
FAVORITE TEACHER at Auburn. Dr. Folkerts is so much fun. By far the most interesting science class I've taken so far at Auburn. She specifically tells you what will be on each test and as long as you study, you'll get at least a B. Gives extra credit and is willing to help in any ways possible, or just talk with the students. TAKE HER!!!!!!
Sweet funny lady. I would def. recommend taking her! Class is kind of detailed but if you go to class and take notes and study you'll make an A!
She was soo NICE!!! This class isn't that bad. If you have old test expect to make an easy A!! Loved her and the class!!
She is great! Very good teacher, explains very well. Very detailed in her making you understand everything. You can ask her anything and she will help. Her tests are tough, but if you go to class, you won't have a problem.
Dr. Folkerts is the best professor I've had at Auburn so far. The class is hard, but she makes it about as painless as possible while still making sure we learn the material. Make sure you go to class because she pretty much tests directly from the notes.
This class is hard, but she is a really good teacher.
easy. tests are straight memorization from the notes and old tests. old tests are easy to find. there are a lot of details to remember, but overall very easy. final was the hardest test, but not to bad.
She's so nice it's scary!! Always smiling, always willing to help you in any way to succeed. The honors section is more intense (obviously), so review your notes daily and you'll be fine.
DO NOT TAKE HER. THERE IS NOTHING FROM THE NOTES THAT CORRESPONDS TO THE TESTS. SHE IS HORRIBLE! now if you want to be her friend that is another story but for a professor, no.
Mrs. Folkerts is a pretty good teacher. She' pretty clear what's on her tests, but they are not easy, but they also aren't incredibly hard (you do have to study). She's very funny and brings things to pass around class to make it interesting about every other lecture.
Class was pretty hard unless you had the old tests, I studied for hours for the first 2 and barely passed them and studied the old tests for the 3rd one and made an A. Fun class, but the tests are very specific and hard.
Great professor! she is so nice and sweet and makes this class very interesting. she brings all sorts of displays to class such as snakes and lizards. the class is really easy if u go to class and take good notes and study before the tests. try to get old tests too bc they help out
She's a good teacher but her test are lecture material so if you miss a class you miss material. Be good at taking notes.
WONDERFUL teacher, but you MUST study. she has a lot of questions on life cycles. easy A if you have old tests and do the study guides. she cares a lot about her students and is very entertaining.
Interesting teacher. Tried to make things as easy as possible. Brings a lot of visuals to class. Tests are kinda hard, but if you study hard A's are possible.
I really liked the last half of this class once we got into the more interesting species. She does her best all semester to bring her "show-and-tell" to keep us interested. You can tell she really loves teaching. Tests are pretty difficult. Don't rely only on old tests to get you an A. You have to know your notes backward and forwards.
GREAT teacher. Very hard tests. Never touched the book. Folkerts loves what she does and tries her best to keep everyone involved and interested. No easy A's here.
She is really passionate about what she teaches and occasionally brings creatures to class for examples. It's an interesting class but there's a lot of information to cover. Get the old tests if possible.
The class wasn't the most interesting, but she tries to keep you awake by bringing in creatures to pass around. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I'd suggest going and getting the notes. I just studied old test (except for the final) and I made an easy A. However, I used my notes for reference in case the old tests had the wrong answers.
Her tests are really hard but she's a good teacher. She does give study guides so focus on that information but don't expect to make an A if that's all you know. She's show-and-tell happy so expect to pass around snakes and whatnot.Overall it's a hard class but she's pretty good, take her but expect to work hard for a good grade.
Very nice person. The material is terribly boring but that's not her fault. Her notes are a bunch of pictures but her tests aren't. Old tests didn't help me very much. Some questions would be on it but studying the book and what notes you take is what is needed for an A.
She keeps class interesting. Told to make an A all I would have to do is study old test. Not true. I pulled out a C by the hair of my chin. Would recommend her but you must be willing to put in a little work. Like prepping for class and etc.
Dr. Folkerts is a nice lady, but she is a tad bit disorganized. We had to teach ourselves a lot of what was on the final because she went off on tangents constantly in class. Her notes and tests are pretty straight forward. Just make sure you study.
She is so strange yet so funny.Class is enjoyable if you actually like living things because she passes whatever she is lecturing about around the room.Tests weren't too bad.Get the old tests if you can and you have pretty much secured an A for yourself.Final was sort of tough but if you did well on all the other tests doesn't really matter.
Awesome teacher! get to know her and she'll help you....GET OLD TESTS!!...let me say it again..GET OLD TESTS they are word for word so get as many copies as possible!
She is a very fun teacher and always has something cool to bring to class. BUT, just studying the old tests doesn't cut it. You have to be willing to work hard and study more that just the night before the test.
She is my favorite teacher I've had yet. She has a huge passion for what she is teaching and makes it interesting and fun. She brings live animals and examples to class! Test are hard, but not impossible. Just take good notes, she gives everything you need and study more than just the night before. I highly recommend taking her class if you can!
My favorite professor yet! She is so enthusiastic and makes material that would be boring very interesting. She cares about her students and is available if you need help. Her tests aren't tricky and it's easy to do well if you learn the notes. I definitely recommend her!
great teacher, study old tests and reread your notes several times before each test, it also pays to go to class even though its not mandatory, easy A with some work
Great Teacher! Makes bio very interesting with her enthusiasm and fun stories! Study old tests and take notes in class (go, even though it's not mandatory) and it'll be an easy class!
She is very enthusiastic about her job. She brings in different examples of the topics she is talking about on that day, which can be very fun when you get to animals. Most of the semester is extremely boring, but she does her best to make it ok, its just a boring class. Overall, she's a great teacher.
Mrs. Folkerts is the sweetest teacher in the world. Her class was fun and stimulating. The different organisms she brought to class enhanced the learning process! Test questions from old tests, study notes as well as tests. For final study notes very hard for the new material. A is definitely achieveable. Would love to take her class again.
Very boring class, but fun teacher (passes around a lot of critters). Go to class and get notes, and GET OLD TESTS. OLD TESTS WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE. All it takes is effort to do good in the class.
Great teacher! Material was kinda boring because mostly all about worms. But she made the most of a boring subject. Tests are not bad (especially if you can get your hands on old tests). Highly recommended!
Hard class and difficult material but Folkerts is truley awesome. She brings in all sorts of animals to pass around as examples. Lizards, snakes, hedgehogs... Very cool stuff. Takes a lot of studying, but she really wants you to do well.
Loved her!! She is a delightful woman and is very passionate about biology. Her tests are not hard, and her old tests are VERY helpful. I didn't buy (or need) the book and I got an A. She extends help when needed, and I would definitely take her again if I could.
Passionate teacher, Brings animals and other stuff to class to pass around. Going to class is recommended and finding and studying old tests will make them a breeze. Don't worry about a book for lecture, its not necessary.
She is an awesome professor who really loves what she does. She is extremely helpful and makes class fun. She always has something cool to pass around...lizards, snakes, etc. I recommend taking her for biol 1030. I would take her again if I could.
She is so funny...She brings in her pets to class and passes them around the room...she makes the lecture fun...tests are hard make sure you get her old exams...except for the final its not the same as the old tests your on your own with that one but overall very interesting class and alot of fun....
Great teacher with incredible enthusiasm!!! Honors tests are quite challenging, but if you studied better than i did, you'll do fine. Loved handling the organisms of the day, which are very well-socialized, and really learned a lot. just make sure that you dont handle mice on a day she brings her pet snakes in!!!
Great teacher! She makes class fun and stil teaches effectively. Honors field trips are really fun. I fully recommend them. Study sessions usually get off-subject. Tests are different forms of questions, and can be pretty hard. Studying is all from lecture notes. No powerpoint.
Very fun teacher! Makes it interesting! Take her if you can!
My favorite professor at Auburn. Made me seriously reconsider my major from Pre-Med to some sort of field biology major. Loves teaching about animals and her knowledge is expansive. Highly recommend the field trip. Tests require significant studying. Great class... do take.
A lot of fun. Dr. Folkerts is extremely enthusiastic and really wants her students to be excited about invertebrates. The weekend beach field trip is a blast. Old exams will make your world a lot easier. Lab practicals a little on the tough side.
I loved ms.folkerts! One of my favorite teachers at auburn. Her field trips are so much fun :) The honors class may seem overwhelming at the beginning but her grading is very lenient and she is more then willing to help if you just put in a little effort!
Ms. Folkerts is awesome! Im hoping to end up with an A in her class! Definitely by far the best Biology teacher at Auburn. she makes the class so much fun!
Dr. Folkerts is a very nice person. Her love for the material is very encouraging. that being said, I found organismal biology to be a very monotonous class. Not her fault by any means. if you have to take it, Folkerts is definitely the way to go. Just know the notes for the tests and you'll be good. Old tests make life easier as well. Recommended.
Great teacher tests are tough, just study the notes and be know all the information thoroughly.
I absolutely LOVE this woman. She is extremely passionate about the material, and she makes it as interesting as possible. And she is the sweetest person ever.
Very good teacher. The class itself is pretty boring, but she tries her best to make it interesting. She obviously knows the material well, and will go out of her way to explain it as clearly as possible. Tests are very straightforward. HIGHLY recommended.
Dr. Folkerts is the best professor I have had at Auburn. She is a great teacher and a great person, I just love her class! She brings in great animals to show and pass around the room (alligator, rooster, turtle, snake and many others) and her class is really interesting. Sit up front, she writes on the board. Old tests are helpful.
This class is so much fun! However, the tests are a bit ridiculous. Because it's honors, she expects you to know every detail of material. It is not an easy class, but if you're willing to put extra effort into it, a B or even an A is very attainable. Lab practicals are made by Bowling and half is fill-in-the-blank..
Dr. Folkerts does a very good job of teaching organismal bio- much better than Dr. Bowling. She brings all sorts of creatures into class and passes them around. Lectures are boring if you're not into biology but she does her best. Be prepared for a lot of memorization. Oh tests are all lectures no book, but you still need the book code for lab.
Boring class in general, but she does her best to make it interesting. All memorization! 3 test which are specific and hard. Final was really hard and is comprehensive. 2 Lab practicals given by Dr. Bowling, both of which are hard. Need to do well in lab because it helps in long run. Just an overall boring class and hard to get motivated 2 study.
I don't think anyone really wants to learn this stuff, but she makes it really interesting. Take notes and old tests definitely make things easier, but the final is gonna kick your butt no matter what. She brings lots of animals to class which makes things a lot more interesting. WAY better than Bowling.
Best teacher ever.Love her so much.Brings animals and makes it so fun.Dont have to go to class or get notes if you have old tests, but you want to bc she makes it so cool.I hated missing class bc i would miss the animals she brought.Helpful smart funny and amazing teacher.I learned more in this class than any other even though i didnt have to. BEST
She always made class interesting, like brining animals to class. The tests were extremely easy (memorization), and there's a chance to get 10 bonus points before every test. The final wasn't too bad. As long as you do well on the lab practicals, you'll be fine. I ended up with a 97.5% in the class. I had Bowling first semester, and she is way bett
Folkerts' class has lots of memorization required, but as long as you do well in lab, you'll be able to get a good grade in this class. Make sure to get old tests because they'll help a lot! She tends not to answer emails, so make sure to go up to her after class to get things answered.
LOVE this woman, she is a brilliant teacher, all you really need to know has been said (get old tests, go to class, etc). i can't express how amazing her class was so do yourself a favor and take her honors class, you WILL have fun and learn a lot (possibly more than you ever wanted to know, lol!) :) and hold all the snakes, they won't bite :)
She's easy, go to her class and take notes and you'll get an A. just study the notes, and the old tests
She is a GREAT teacher! Loved her class!! If you go to class and takes notes, you should be fine. Her tests are detailed, but everything is in the notes. Overall easy class.
Organismal requires a lot of memorization and can be frustrating but Dr. Folkerts does her best to keep it interesting and fun. She brings in organisms every day to pass around which is pretty cool. Grade is just from 4 multiple choice exams - get the old tests! You don't need the textbook either - just lecture notes. DEF. take her over Bowling!
Overall, Honors Organismal was a pretty awesome class. Its not too hard but it does require a lot of work and memorization. Remember to study the organism of the day because it will help you on the tests. Two field trips are required for this class but they can be pretty fun and they're free. We went kayaking on one of the trips I took.
TAKE HER. NO JOKE. SHE IS SO FUN AND BRINGS COOL ANIMALS TO CLASS LIKE EVERY DAY. SHE IS ORGANIZED AND HER TESTS AREN'T THAT BAD, BUT YOU STILL NEED TO REALLY STUDY.
Do not take honors from her! she grades way too hard and does not make clear what to study. very, very, very difficult class to get an A in.
She was awesome, always had a new animal to hand around the class. Her lecture notes are really good, so even though class isn't mandatory, if you go and take good notes and study those you'll get an A. Pretty easy and a really good teacher!
always(kind of obnoxiously)excited to teach.I think most of the animals she brought to class were her pets.unless you have the notes from someone else,GO TOCLASS.Notes have word for word been the same for the last 30 years.Tests are verbatim from the notes.Dont get cocky and not study cause she picks the most random crap in the margins to ask about
she tests on material that was not covered, and the study guides are NOT relevant to the test, so i don't recommend bothering with them.
This class was an easy class to attend. She brings animals every day. There are 3 tests and a final. All multiple choice. No other grades but lab. Don't just study the night before. Tests cover too mmuch material. Majority of questions are from the NOT obvious notes. (random stuff)
Hard for freshmen level, but hey, it's an honors class. Go to class, people who don't go do badly! Get old tests, they're almost identical!!! Lab midterm/final is hard, and so is lecture final. I studied my butt off and got an A, it's not impossible. Hard, but it prepares you for work load for upper level biology classes, definitely recommended!
You are doing yourself a disservice if you do not take her for honors. This is by far the best class I have had at Auburn. You will never want to miss class because she is such a wonderful teacher. My life has truly been changed by having her. Lab practicals are very difficult, but possible to make an A. YOU MUST STUDY A LOT. TAKE HONORS!
She is very excited to teach, but gives far to much work. Honors classes are required to go on field trips, some of which are overnight. Also, she places a lot of emphasis on irrelevant facts. You can get an A, but it takes a lot of work.
Yeah she brings cool organisms to class and is a nice lady but this class is NOT easy!!! Tests are barely from anything she says in the lecture and your grade relies on them. She is not as great as her rating makes her seem..
she is such a nice lady and clearly loves to teach. With that being said organismal covers SO much material it is very hard to do well if you don't study your notes almost every day. Old tests help out a decent amount. She loves to test on the most detailed things and sometimes stuff she hardly mentioned. Studying the lab manual for the final helped me a lot.
Dr. Folkerts is by far the best teacher I've had at Auburn. She is hilarious and very interesting. She brings in organisms every day. Her class definitely is not easy. You need to study almost every day, but its very possible to make As on lecture tests. The lab practicals are whats so difficult, but theyre the same for regular. I RECOMMEND HER!
Dr. Folkerts is a very good teacher. You have to study hard for her tests. You don't need the book at all and all test questions are from the lectures. Although, she doesn't write on the board everything that will be on the test. The best advice I can give is to buy the University notes because she talks to fast to write everything down.
She's a tough teach as far as grading. You can't misspell anything or it's wrong. Her lectures are very informative but she ALWAYS stands in front of her drawings/notes. This is worse than you'd think. Her explanations sometimes are not clear because she seems to get so excited and sort of lectures to herself. Overall, she's okay... just study!
Dr. Folkerts is so sweet, but not the best teacher for organismal. The class itself is very hard and will require a lot of time studying. The tests often have questions over things that she barely mentioned in class. Many people do well because they have old tests- not because they know the material. Do not take her.
Her tests are not that hard and pretty straightforward. As for the person who complained about spelling on exams, as long as you are pretty close it will be fine. People would "misspell" a word and it would actually be another term that meant something different, or it would be something they made up that kind of sounded like the correct answer.
Great teacher, looks like a female version of Bill Murray. Very interesting class, it is very helpful to have old tests. Study and take notes, you will do well.
Highly recommend Folkerts for Organismal Bio. She is very nice, funny, and very clear in explaining things. Tests are straight from lecture, and she has 10 pt bonus quizzes the class before tests. Also brings in organisms to pass around about once a week. Get her old tests from someone, because about half the questions on her tests come from here.
I had Dr. Folkerts for Honors Organismal Biology. She is incredibly passionate about this subject and knows a very, very large amount about her subject. She is very nice and fairly amusing as well. Tests are difficult and require a lot of studying. She is very friendly and, although she is not easy, I would suggest taking her.
Dr. Folkerts is awesome! She's incredibly knowledgeable in what she teaches and she presents it in a manner that's usually really interesting. You don't have to look at the textbook at all for studying, which means it's much better to go to class for the notes. Her organisms of the day are also really interesting.
She is an awesome teacher! Get her if you can! She had a great sense of humor and class was always interesting cause she would bring a different living organism (snake, alligator, bunny, salamander, insects, etc) into class almost everyday. Favorite teacher i have had at auburn so far!
Hatas gonna hate. She's great. So take Folkerts and appreciate.
She was great for organismal! She's funny and class is always interesting because she brings in animals to pass around. Her tests come straight from the notes, so going to class is important. It's helpful if you can get old tests because the questions repeat. She goes a lot slower than the lab goes, though, which makes lab harder than it has to be.
Dr. Folkerts was named 2012 Honors Professor of the year! You'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't take this class. Every class you get to hold and learn about a new organism, and the two required field trips are awesome. Keep up with the material taught in class. There was enough extra credit to bring every B test grade up to an A.
Okay, heres the deal with Folkerts. Her first test is easy and as the tests go on they get harder and harder until you come to the final which is very difficult. She is a fantastic teacher though, very clear, very interesting and nice. You just have to invest some serious memorization time before the tests. Can't slack off in her class.
Dr. Folkerts is the most pleasant and lively professor I've ever had. Her Honors Organismal class was a pleasure to be a part of because of the large exposure to and handling of LIVE ORGANISMS, mostly animals. The course requires ALOT of studying but not a difficult A. Take this class if you want to be excited every other morning by a new animal.
Folkerts is a wonderful professor! By far, the best professor I've had at Auburn. I would recommend her in a heartbeat. Don't expect an A without serious studying though. You'll learn and you'll enjoy it. Tests are straightforward and strictly from notes. She also brings in an organism every now and then. Loved every second of it!
I showed up for all but one class and failed the course. We never used the book but always took notes. The problem is she would ramble on with stuff that was not important to the test and skip the things that were. Tests were near impossible with majority of the questions being small details.
Honors Organismal with Dr. Folkerts was a great course. Definitely challenging, but I worked hard and came out with an A. Tests come straight from the notes and get progressively harder. Become familiar with all the vocabulary and be able to draw life cycles and you'll be fine. Enthusiastic & definitely the best organismal professor at Auburn.
One of the hardest classes I have ever taken. Dr. Folkerts was very interesting and clear when giving notes, but her tests were the hardest I've ever taken. Questions are very vague sometimes, never could distinguish if she wanted us to specify answer or generalize. REALLY KNOW YOUR STUFF FOR THE FINAL!
GOOD TEACHER ALERT WEE WOO WEE WOO---Yea it's science so it's not gonna be a cakewalk, but it is far from impossible. Folkerts brings in animals and is a very engaging and helpful professor. The content is interesting for what it's worth. Start studying a few days ahead of time and surely you'll get the upper hand of the 72 average on tests.
Worst Teacher I've had so far at Auburn. She's NOT very helpful if you go to office hours and her notes are very hard to read on the board. Tests are all from the notes but she tests you on the most detailed things. Also, the final is nothing at all like previous tests so don't expect to review old tests and be fine. Wouldn't recommend her.
My favorite teacher so far!
i specifically chose her for evolution because i liked her as my teacher for organismal
Sit in middle-front or bring bincoulars to class cause she writes all the notes on the board. A LOT of material is covered in this class. She is nice. Brings little critters every once in a while. The key to this class is knowing everything about all the notes inside and out, and old tests. The final will crush your dreams. Very hard class.
TAKE HER. She is so sweet and genuinely loves teaching the class. You don't need to even look at the book. Make sure to know the notes from class forwards and backwards though, and I made an A easy. Her final is different in that it contains a lot of matching not found on her usual multiple-choice tests. All you have to do is memorize notes.. DO IT
Dr. Folkerts is definitely one of my favorite professors. Don't skip class or you'll miss one of her awesome pets she brings in. Lectures are engaging and you can tell she loves this stuff. Tests are hard but not impossible. Know your definitions inside and out. I got an A without buying the book, just take good notes.
Dr. Folkerts is wonderful! She's a great lecturer and she keeps class fun and interesting. You will not want to skip because she usually brings organisms to class and her tests are right out of the notes. Take good notes, study them, and you'll do fine. Once you get the hang of the kinds of questions she likes to ask, it's easy.
TAKE HER. Tests are literally from old tests, so if you can get your hands on the old tests you're golden, also gives bonus quizzes the day before tests. Organismal is super boring but she made it interesting by bringing odd animals and she's super sweet. Wish I got my hands on the old tests before the last exam
Dr. Folkerts is my favorite teacher I have had at Auburn. Genuine person who cares about her students. Brings organisms to class to keep it interesting. Vast knowledge of the class and is able to relate it well to the students. Took me a little while to get used to her tests, but once you figure it out easy class. Barely studied and got a B.
This class is all memorization. Sometimes the notes are disorganized and you have no idea what it means but you memorize it anyway. Still, Dr. Folkerts is super nice and funny. My advice is take extremely thorough notes and study them EARLY. You have to know details for the test.
She is hands down the sweetest professor at Auburn. You can tell she cares about her students, and the pets she brings in every class are pretty cool too. Her tests aren't the easiest, but if you're willing to put in the work, I would highly recommend her.
I loved this class and received an A on all the test then when it came to the final it was different format then the rest and received a B in the class. But wonderful teacher she brings animals to class.
Dr. Folkerts clearly loves her subject and the organisms she brings to class. She has you draw all the time in class and notes can go on from beginning to end. There were bonus quizzes before the tests, and if you ask on a day when the class is smaller you can get attendance bonuses too. If you actively listen this class is just fine.
Dr. Folkerts is a great professor! She brings interesting organisms to class which was a plus!! We didn't really use the textbook for this class. Be sure to take good notes because her test questions come from what she writes on the board. She gives a bonus quiz a few days before each exam so that you get a chance to add points to your exam grade.
BEST ORGANISMAL TEACHER ! highly recommend you take her. test are EASY! grades pretty fast.
Brought animals to class to shake things up! She was really funny, and she taught the material well. Her tests were tough, but they were doable if you went to class and studied. Would highly recommend.
She brings snakes and tarantulas to class so be ready. You MUST go to class and take GOOD notes throughout the semester. Her final is tough so don't rely on that to bring your grade up. She likes to use matching. Study every small detail for the final. Use the lab manual to help you study for all the tests, too.
Dr. Folkerts is enthusiastic and you can tell she loves what she does. Her notes can be kind of confusing and fast-paced, but a student posted study guides on her website, which are basically the notes. Uses a lot of old test questions!
This woman is the best! You can tell Dr. Folkert's teaching that she has a real passion for biology and her students. If you go to class and take notes, her tests are not hard. She always brings really cool organisms to class that you get to pass around. She is by far one of my favorite professors in COSAM. 100/100
Dr. Folkerts is passionate about Biology and cares that her students learn and enjoy the material. She brings animals, reviews challenging life cycles, and shows pictures. Her tests are fair, and she gives bonus quizzes (worth 10 pts) before each exam. As long as you take good notes and dedicate time to learn the information, an A is achievable.
Very nice, her lectures are long and she only writes the notes on the board, so you either write them down or don't have them. I went in thinking that I was going to do a lot better, ended up barely passing my first exam and failing the other two. LOTS OF VOCABULARY. Doesn't use canvas so no idea what grade averages out to be.
I had Dr. Folkerts for Organismal and Evolution and Systematics. For organismal, she gave bonus quizzes and her tests were fairly easy. For Evolution, we didnt have any bonus quizzes and a majority of our points for the exams were short answer questions which werent always the easiest. She also isnt very clear in the way she teaches for evolution.
Folkerts was a pretty good teacher but honestly the material is so boring that paying attention is extremely difficult. ended up never going to class thinking I could still make an A but finished with a B+. Tests get progressively harder. bonus quizzes. you won't get an A if you don't study a lot but if you do its not that hard.
Honestly one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. Some of her current test questions are taken from old tests, so utilize those, but I only barely scraped out Bs on her tests WITH bonus quiz points. Also the lab practicals are really hard, and the lab is 25% of your grade. Honestly the hardest I've ever worked for a B, but Folkerts is so nice.
Super hard class. I took AP Biology in high school and barely made a B. She gives bonus quizzes but those are hard too. I would not recommend this class. Her lectures are all over the place and it's hard to take notes. I studied for 3 weeks for the final and still B Lab practicals are super hard. She's a nice lady, but the class is really hard.
Dr. Folkerts was an amazing professor. She's really passionate about what she teaches so the lectures are interesting. The tests can be relatively hard, but if you go to class and take good notes you'll do fine. The final was one of the easiest things I've taken in college.
Her notes are incredibly hard to follow, so people almost never come to class because it doesn't help with the tests. This class is strictly memorization and super boring overall. Studying student generated study guide she provides is pretty much the only thing that helps for the test. Also, if you're afraid of snakes, don't take her.
You have 4 exams. They're all questions from past exams which you can easily find on quizlet. Going to SI helps or asking her questions after class. Simply memorize the material she gives you and you'll get an A
She is a sweet woman who loves her job. However, I could not organize her thoughts into coherent notes. Most people don't go to class because you can never follow her lectures and vague notes are on her website. She asks questions on the tests about things you'd never think to study. Study quizlets made from her old tests. Lab is the hardest part.
If you can take the notes in lecture, then you have every thing on the test. She is quirky but cool. She brings animals and other things to class for examples. Its an easy class if you pay attention.
I loved her. she loves teaching and her lectures are interesting. the tests are easier with a bank, but very straightforward.
She is absolutely amazing, and also brings animals to half of the classes (every week). Incredibly knowledgeable and excellent at teaching.
Debbie is a sweet lady and good professor. I kept a 90 throughout the year - even worked my ass off for a 95 in lab. Then I got to infuriating final. I made a C on it and lost my A. She used stupid specific questions we barely talked about, but also very broad taxonomy I didn't study. Old tests and good quality notes will almost do it for you.
The class itself is kind of boring and a lot of information. She does her best to make it interesting by bringing in different organisms once a week. Her lectures are pretty long, but take really good notes and you should be okay for tests. She also offers bonus quizzes the class before the test so don't skip those days!
The class is lab, 3 tests, 3 bonus quizzes, and a final. Go to class, pay attention (even when it gets hard), and take good notes. Nothing is posted online, so your own notes will be a great reference. SI helped a lot in this class for me, and I would definitely recommend going, especially when the vocabulary load gets heavy.
so bad
Go to class, take notes, study old exams and you will get an A. Bonus quizzes the day before a test help as well. Put in the time studying what she teaches in class and not bad at all.
Dr. Folkerts was an awesome teacher! she is so sweet and really cares about this subject. There was always an organism of the week (she would bring in her own pets to pass around class). She also gives bonus quizzes the class before the test. Biology is hard, but Folkerts made it interesting.
Folkerts was a great teacher. She is passionate about her field and is very sweet. Be ready to take A LOT of notes. She won't use canvas and the grade is based on the tests. The tests are hard but if you put effort into studying, you will be ok. Know the vocab and save your tests because it will help for the final. Study all the time!
Her powerpoints are very tidy. I found it easy to take well-organized notes. A very nice lady outside of class too, she gave me a few plant cuttings from her own collection. I expected to not enjoy organismal biology, but it was a very fun class thanks to her.
Through the year, tests were pretty normal. If you went to class and studied, you probably got a high B or A. But then at the end of the year, she decided to throw a major curve ball with the final. The two class averages were 66 and 67. Due to the fact that the only grades are 3 tests and a final, this really messed up several students grades.
Dr. Folkerts is by far one of the best biology teachers I have had at Auburn. She is super nice and is really passionate about biology, which makes her class much more entertaining. Your only grades come from tests, so if you mess one of them up, you will be disappointed. She does give bonus points for her tests, which is a life saver.
Professor Folkerts is the most passionate professor I have ever had. It is obvious how much she cares about the material and her students. Tests are tough, but the old tests are very similar. She also gives lots of bonus so that helps. The final was the toughest part of the class. Overall would take again for sure.
Dr. Folkerts is retiring, but if for some reason decides to stay TAKE HER CLASS! She is so sweet and caring and genuinely has a passion for biology. She brings in small animals and creatures that help you visually learn the material.
Go to class, take notes, and study old tests to get an easy A. In my opinion, the most challenging part of the class was the final, which was expected bc most Bio finals are just tons of memorization.
All exams are fill in the blank. If you don't spell a word correctly the answer is wrong, no negotiations. Only recommend if you really enjoyed Organismal Biology. Otherwise, you'll be doing a lot of extra studying, consider that with the workload you already have.
This was the most tedious class I have ever taken. You essentially have to memorize the entire taxonomy as well as the majority of both internal and external morphologies of all of the invertebrate taxons. Tests were almost exclusively fill in the blank. The study guide did not help at all and was just a comprehensive list of the whole unit.
