Debbie is so liberal weirdo. I felt like she she bashed on my fatih, but who knows, i might be nuts. Shes easy, but very strongly opinionated. Always shows up late. Read, and show up and youll do fine.
Debbie had lots of stories to tell, but didn't learn from book...she was always late and never returned graded work. Final wasn't clear on what we learned in semester. Very Unorganized!
she is very helpful to you if you want her to be. Her assignments are easy and if you attend class and do the work you'll pass easily. The discussions are interesting and although the lessons are not along the lines with some religous beliefs you have to remember that not everyone is a believer... the messages are good in general
I took it a couple semesters ago, but it wasn't a hard class. The teacher didn't give a lot of work and the homework was pretty easy. As long as you go to class, you'll do good.
Debbie is amazing as well as informative. She provides many examples and listens to everyones oppinion. She is very knowledgable and strong in her oppinion however will certainly listen to yours. If you REALLY want to learn and walk away with everything you need to be an amazing parent/teacher take her classes!
Very knowledgable. Sometimes a little disorganized, but I learned a lot from her classes.
She was very easy I got an A in her class!
Very nice, very informative, flakes on class sometimes. Intolerant of intolerance. Highly recommended.
Debbie is a wonderful teacher! She is really open minded. She will rarely give her opinion on issues she just wants her students to know the facts so that they may form their own opinions. Debbie isn't really a stickler on tardies but absences is a dfifferent story. Overall I really enjoyed this class and passed with a B.

This class is horrible!!!!
Seemed like a stereo-typical "60's throwback". Information presented was out of date, seemed to be bias towards "female victimization". She was a nice person and generally fair grader open to other opinions. I received an "A"
I hate this teacher. First day of class she is not even there. All of her students stood out in the rain. Poor thing wasnt there b/c she had a sunburn (give me a break). Then when she finally decides that she wants to come to class she goes on for an hour about how she hates tardiness. Everyday after that she was late b/c she got coffee!!!!
Debbie is a very helpful teacher. I feel that she was very professional as well as informative to the class. She is not easy however if you listen you will learn a great deal! I felt that she taught the class well and graded fairly. Contrary to this forum Debbie never missed class due a sunburn and from what I know is NOT biased.
This is by far one of the worst teachers at MJC she should not be head of anything.. She teaches child development and I feel sorry for those who have to take her. She treats her class unfarely and continually talks alot of nothing. Not many students like her and its not because she is difficult.. it is because she is unfare.
she keeps the class interesting

Watch out-She lost mine and another classmates papers! Always make copies of your work when you are in Debbie's class.
Debbie is a knowledgable instructor and gives her classes 100 percent. She is not easy however if you do what is expected of you and have a desire to be your best she is the instructor you want to have. She is not unfair and only expects the best out of you. Her instruction will take you far in both your personal and professional life! WONDERFUL
I enjoyed this class. She was a good teacher, just make sure you study and take notes in class. And I agree with the comment below about making copies of papers, because she is unorganized, but still a good teacher.
Great Prof, I highly respect her. She's passionate and educated in her work with children and she enjoys teaching others to do the same. I work in childrens services and I have applied so much from her classes to my professional life.
She was a very easy teacher. Must show up to class to be able to pass class. Test are tricky, but in class activities help make it up. It was a fun class to take.
children are her passion!
She is REALLY great with information. She knows her stuff and it's great to gain knowledge from her. She's very fast paced, but you're able to use notes on the tests. Homework assignments are easy and self-explainatory.
Love this Teacher!
This was my first class with Debbie. I was very impressed with her. She knows a lot about ADHD, is very nice, and she is very fair. Do your homework + read your text= good grade! I can't wait to take another class with her! What an Excellent Instructor! Highly recommend to all-I read other comments.&.No she is not always late!
This was my 1st class,I've taken in MJC. I went to class everytime. I tried my hardest to pass this class. She end up giving me an "F." This was the worst teacher. I thought she was nice and very helpful. She was fake. Her number #1 goal is to fail the students. On the 1st day of class, she lectures about more than an 1hr, on how she will fail you.
This class is not for those who want to sit out the semester. You need to attend, listen and participate. She never missed a class or was late. Her notes are organized. This is a great class if you are willing to work hard. I received an A, but I had to work for it.
Great teacher, classes are somewhat hard but if you pay attention you will do fine. Sometimes she is a little boring, but she gets very involved and gives excellent examples.
RUDE RUDE RUDE!!! she interrupts u when u try and state ur opinion. shes HIGHLY opinionated and if she disagrees with u she'll pretty much tell u ur wrong. she was VERY unclear with her directions for assignments. She never hands out written directions for assignments. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS!!! and i havent opened my book all semester. AAAHHH!!!!!!
She believes what she wants to and if you think any other way she doesnt want to hear you! I thought teachers needed to have open minds! I dont know how she works with autisum children when she doesnt have a open mind!!!!
Debbie is one of the best proffs at MJC. Students who left negative comments should reconsider their major. Yes you have to work but its COLLEGE!! She is extremely knowledgeable, energetic, and OPEN MINDED. She has a passion for children with special needs and she truly cares about students who care about children. (Had her in 103,107,173, FMLF131)
This teacher is awsome, she had a lot of information but she works with you if you need the help. You get to use a notecard on the tests, and the questions she gives you on the quizes are on the chapter tests. She gives good experiences and she really knows her stuff. I love this teacher and most definately recommend her to any student.
She knows what she is talking about ill give her that but she is horrible and rambles on aboyt stuff that we werent even discussing. and she cant take it when you put your opinion in! blames the class for getting behind when its her fault. can be an easy A if you can stand her rambling
Easy to get a hold of, answers all emails, keeps your interest throughout the evening. You do have to read and the workbook does help. Not an easy "A" but do the work and you will earn it. Very professional individual and very knowledgeable.
She was very helpful. I loved her class. :) have to be creative in 107 when making your models. Very easy. Took it over the summer.
This was the worst teacher i have ever had. I did every assignment and still got a D. She is horrible DONT TAKE HER
rude, inconsiderate, picks favorites, not clear at all, assigns too much work, and HIGHLY opinionated. She cut me off and pretty much told me I was wrong when I gave my opinion on a situation. That was the second day of class. I never again spoke in front of the class for the rest of the semester. Her final was fun, but hard. Don't take her.
This Teacher is highly knowledgeable . I won't lie, her class is not an easy A. You definitely have to work for it. On the other hand...if this is your major and chosen field of profession....her class is essential. She has worked with children for many years and really knows what she is talking about. I respect her class.
She is amazing! The class is hard! BUT all you have to do is what she asks of you, read your book, do the study guide and you will pass! I got a A in here class and I simply followed her instructions! Highly recommended class and teacher!
Ridiculous expectations. This teacher preaches that children should be treated with respect(which I agree) however shows no respect for her students. Her lectures are very long and boring. She will not let you leave on time if she is still lecturing and if you try to leave on time she will mark you absent by making class sign a sheet after u leave.
short quizzes every week. not alot of HW other than test and quizes. She treats us like children, which is annoying, but she knows her information! recommend if you are majoring in CD
I dont know what everyone is talking about. Debbie is a great tracher. ya, she's strict, but come on guys... we are in college!!!! and if youre a child development major, your gonna want a teacher who has high expectations...thats the only way youre going to understand this intense field of study. HIghly recommend her!!!
Debbie is a fantastic teacher! She is very knowlegable and has a ton of experience in this field. As a student you have to do your part and read your book and study. I got an A in clddv 103 and clddv 107 with Debbie. If you're looking for an esay A then I wouldn't recommend her. But if you're wanting to really learn then she is awesome!
Debbie is great! You definitely have to work hard and her expectations are high, but she's a great teacher. I really appreciated her passion for children and for Kenya (which she routinely visits). Do your reading & pay attention and you'll do fine. Her lectures were extremely interesting!
WoRST TEACHER EVER! She know what she is teaching very well, but will not answer questions, is always behind schedual and does not listen to anyone tht doesnt gree with her. I have an autist brother so i know alot about special ed but i would never let her ner children! She is so closed minded and that is not what a teacher should be. Never take he
Please ... Whatever you do, DO NOT take this class with Debbie...if you do, then you will realize why....!!!
She is very rude, she is pretty much two faced says she cares about every ones opinions but really only cares about her own, her lectures are way too long and boring!!!!
She is awesome. A lot of students tried to scared me before taking this class. Wow, not even close to what they told me. If you are a serious student, this class will be worth it and easy. This teacher knows her stuff and research. I was frustrated with students asking personal questions, teacher managed those nicely.
I have had Debbie for a few classes now and have had no problems. If you are a serious CLDDV student, you should have no problems passing her classes. You do earn your grade. Go to class, READ, do your homework, and study and you will pass. If pay attention to her stories, they go with what she is teaching. FYI: turn your phone off in class!
She is a unique. You will get a good grounding in child development. I think she has a problem staying on subject in her lectures. I really want to know what is happening in usa classes more than Kenya. I found myself falling asleep in her night classes. Other than that, good luck
This class isn't that hard, but she makes it kind of tricky. She grades really unfair on essays. And she is SUPER annoying. She talks in overly exagerated baby talk more than half the time. She always has to be right too.
I would not take this teacher again. She doesn't stick to the syllabus. I found her sneaky and her tests get progressively harder. Beware of the final.. it was ridiculous! She loves to talk about how wrong everyone else is in rearing children.
I've taken her 103 and 107 classes. In 103 she was very clear on what she wanted and went over it NUMEROUS times. In 107 she was much less clear. she'll give great help of you ask, her quizzes are tricky read the questions CAREFULLY. she's very open about her beliefs, and relates everything to a personal story which helped me understand the subject
She was very forgetful and talked a lot about her project Kenya. She is very passionate in her job and an excellent teacher. I learned so much from her.
This teacher is very hard. The tests are very tricky and get progressively harder. She grades essays based upon spelling/punctuation, not about quality. Her final consisted of her trying to lecture about 3 chapters in 2 hours, and then giving us the test. She is always behind in her lectures.
Debbie has a teaching style that I was not acustomed to but I found that as long as I did the reading and assignments, along with regulary attending class, that passing the class was a breeze. Advice: make sure to go to class and stay for the whole period. Also keep cell phones put away, she has zero tolerance and will ask you to leave. Good luck
Great instructor! A little scattered at times, but easy to get along with and understand. Her class is full of assignments that allow you to have fun and learn at the same time. She is a wealth of information.
Shes alright. dont take this class with her if you cannot take notes and listen at the same time or if you cant handle fast paced environments. she often falls behind but sometimes she will fit like 10 slides into 3 minutes. her class isnt bad if you READ. YOU MUST READ THE TEXT. her final wasnt great though.
She is super hard and for a development teacher , she doesn't follow her own rule that some students haven't learn like she has. We all learn differently. She always off task and behind schedule. Very rushed class.
This class is super hard! She acts like this is your only class so when you go home you must read the text book and the power point on her website. She does not give you enough time to write down the slides in class. She is always behind schedule and will teach the first hour of class before a test. Terrible teacher!
Mixed feelings. Knows her profession and teaches well. Gives study sessions for tests, but shows up late for these. Nice but complains alot about her personal life. Weekly quizzes and a test for every 2-3 chapters. Essays: childbirth and article summary. Childbirth was easy to do but written article summary instructions were very vague and oral.
This class is very difficult if you don't read the book. Quiz every week, tests every 3 chapters. Assignments were very easy. I honestly learned A LOT from this class. as long as you attend and pay attention you will get through. (When she uses her experiences that relate to the texts are great)
She was kind of confusing, classes were somewhat dysfunctional because everyone always had to give personal experiences or had questions that were way off topic, she rarely stuck to syllabus, always behind on her slide show. A TON of reading is a must.
She is a great and passionate teacher! she really cares about making a difference and goes into great detail about dap. the class is difficult but so worth it she is a mentor or all child development majors!
Took for 107 & 103. Despite complaints about lateness (which is occasional), this is an excellent teacher. She is genuine, and is full of knowledge and experience. She is faced paced - keeping students on their toes. But, what she can offer in the class room is well worth all the hardships. I definitely recommend her for future CLDDV students.
Lovely woman! The tests are very hard but she gives you tips on what will be on the test, including a study session before test and cram night before final. You must be at class to get tips.
This professor and class was my reason for changing my major to Child Development! She is very enthusiastic and passionate about teaching children and her students. The tests are HARD but she gives you tips on what will be on the test. Plus she throws out your lowest score and grades on a curve.
Difficult class, but she is a very nice lady. She tends to finish her lectures right before the tests so you don't really get to study the info and if you don't understand, that sucks for you. I enjoyed her class for the most part it was just really difficult when she would lecture the day of test for me. She missed 4 days including day of final!
She is a great instructor that is very passionate about children especially children with special needs. She is very knowledgable and totally willing to help, if you ask.
On the first day of class she shook our hands. She learned our names and is so bright and cheerful. It was as fun as kindergarten! Debbie has lots of great stores to share and is open to input. She does so much for others and is willing to lend an ear for advice. She will really work with you to help you out.
I've had Debbie for several classes. I love her lectures! I always wrote a star in my note next to things she said was going to be on the test and then wrote it on the note card for the tests. In her larger classes(like 103) it is mostly just lecture which I love but in the smaller classes there is more small group work and group projects.
Grades on a curve. 2-3 person groups to answer ch study questions seems to be her favorite thing. Eliminates your lowest scoring test as well as a couple quizzes. Plenty of opportunity for a good grade. Gets off topic during lectures quite a bit. Offers a study hall on test days 12 hr before class as well as cram night. Good, very knowledgable.
Ms. Laffranchini is an amazing teacher!! I found her class to be the most difficult of all the ones I took this semester. Although, I may have found her class very hard, I also found it very interesting. What interest led me was not the material she taught but, the passion for the material she taught with!!
Extremely long lectures, gets off topic, forgets where shes going, has too much going on to keep up with the class, dont miss class or you miss points on in class activity, take pictures of ALL your work-she sometimes misplaces assignments, extremely knowledgable and passionate about children.
Always take pix of your work & check she has your grade recorded in book, chapter outlines are mandatory for midterm, do them well. She is donating projects to Africa so use that in your
Debbie is a great professor! She really makes sure you understand the content of the course. Debbie's class brings child development to life. I received an A in her class and still refer to her for advice.
A ton of weekly assignments. Chapter worksheets are a pain. Does not respond promptly to emails. I would recommend this class if you do not have two other classes. Does not grade assignments on time. Some instructions on assignments are unclear. My grades average A&B in other classes, this is the toughest CLLDV class I have taken so far!
She took weeks to grade assignments. She gave way more work than any other class and a lot of busy work. Several assignments did not get posted to Blackboard properly and Blackboard scores were never up to date or edited and sometimes links were not there to complete and turn in that assignment. I wish I would of looked at rate your professor befor
She expects nothing but your best, but is encouraging, kind, and has a lot of knowledge about children to share. If you are interested in educating yourself about children with special needsdisabilities, then this is the professor for you!
This was the most difficult class I had all semester. SO MUCH READING. You NEED to read or you will not pass any of the examsquizzes. While she is passionate about children, I did not find her to be a helpful teacher. She doesn't post grades on BB and WILL NOT give you your grade, you have to keep track yourself. I wouldn't take her again.
She is a wonderful, absolutely inspirational person. Her personal life fascinates me. She's kind, caring, and personable and puts in extra time and effort to help you pass. Quiz on each chapter and a few assignments. Totally fair. Pay attention and read the book for an A.
To pass her class you need to read the book, do your work, and study for the test.
I graduated in 92 with an AS in Child Development but when I had to go back for my Teachers Permit I was scared. Debbie is a great speaker and is there for anyone who ask. I could not believe how exciting she made this class and for the first time in my life I understood and enjoyed human biology.
I have never had a teacher as commited as she is to making sure you understand what is going on and your presence in the class. She even offered rides to the students who had a hard time getting to and from class. Very inspirational and a truely GREAT human being. Would recommend to any Child Dev major or any person in general just for her wisdom.
Horrible teacher very boring, lectures are way to long, gives a quiz every class on the chapter she will be going over so you have to read the chapter ahead of time, after three chapters the gives out a test on all three. Study for them! She doesn't provide grades till the end of the semester so you have to keep track of it your self.
Cares about she is does. Is very open to students' thoughts and opinions. Very patient as well. Some immature students in class and she always responded with kindness . If you put in the effort, you will get an A. Reading the chapters are essential. Great class to take for those considering becoming a teacher or early childhood interventionist.
Im taking her online class right now and she hasn't graded anything since week 2 of school and we are in week 10!! so basically I do not know my grade. I only know my grade for the things that grade itself like the online quizzes. She is also so boring every week we have to summarize like 10 or more videos. Lots of hw. I do not recommend her!
Professor is very passionate about her specialty. The class is heavy with work, but this topic is vital for the safety and positive development of children. Lectures do tend to go off topic and she is selective when answering students questions. Be patient, she has over 300 students to respond to and grade.
She assigns way too many videos to summarize. Not too bad if you can keep up.
She may be tough and pushes you to your limits but she never gives up on you. When u feel like you want to quit she is right there beside guiding you and helping you the most. Don't be afraid to ask her for help. Amazing teacher
She was always so supportive and gave me extensions if I ever asked for any. Even though she has 500+ students, she is always on top of responding to emails within two days! She always answered any questions I had and graded on curve! You have to give a lot of effort in this class but she will work with you in any situation you may have!
This was the worst online class I have taken so far. You watch hours of youtube videos and answer hundreds of questions and learn nothing. There were probably 200 assignments and they were all buzy work.
I like Debbie but her online classes are hard. A lot of reading and a lot of coursework. However, you do learn a lot and she gives great feedback. She is a very person and does a lot of work with people in Africa. She's okay with late work but don't make a habit of it. Very happy and kind in person and takes pride in her students!
She is a brilliant woman and a compassionate teacher. This class was full of interesting information and I learned so much.
I loved taking her class. She possesses a wealth of knowledge, experience, insight to different culture, and loves what she does. Debbie will do whatever it takes to help you be successful. Lectures are interesting, her views are inspiring to me as a future teacher and I will definitely continue taking her classes.
I took this course not knowing how difficult it would be. There is a lot of reading and studying. Make sure you understand the material. I recommend taking intro to psych before taking this class. She is a caring professor though but the class was just too difficult. At least for me anyways.
The class is pretty easy if you show up and do your assignments. She doesn't accept late work. She tends to ramble a lot and lose track of time which gets annoying. You can tell she means well but it doesn't come off that way.
I've taken 3 of her online summer classes 103 last yr. 163 & 107 this yr. Expect A LOT of summarizing videos and ch. workshts. 3 time consuming projects in 107. Expect to spend 20+ hours weekly. If you're going to take summer classes only take 1 if it's hers. her grading makes no sense. Deducts 1/2 points randomly. Yet Gives extra Points often.
I have taken a number of Debbie Laffranchini's classes at MJC online and one on campus. She is by far my favorite Professor at MJC. I've learned so much and honestly enjoyed doing it. There's a lot of reading and writing but I don't mind that. She gets you thinking and learning about things that matter most- people. I will be in her next class too.
She is a good teacher and I would take her class again!
Awesome teacher, I learned so much in her class. She provides a good amount of homework that will help you understand the chapter/lesson. I'd recommend her to anyone. (Each week we read a chapter from the textbook, take a quiz, and sometimes she also assigns videos the most is about 14 videos and you have to do summaries about them.)
Literally the most ridiculous class I've taken. This is not a class to take if you have other classes or a life. There are multiple hour videos every week and too many assignments to keep up with. She is the toughest grader I've ever had. Its almost like she sets you up to fail instead of to succeed. I would've dropped if I didnt need the credits.
So much homework maybe because it was a late start class. Stressed me out lol.
I really wanted to rate this professor before she tired I think she still does classes online. I really liked her and will help you with questions would recommend. Took online classes too for 3 different Child Development and passed all of them.
Debbie is a great teacher, I've taken 3 classes with her. Only thing that drives me crazy are the videos she assigns for hw. Every week she will assign about 3 - 11 videos, that are minimum 23 minutes long. You have to watch the videos & then summarize them, drives me insane bc some of the videos are cool but most are just videos made by hs kids.
Great professor, I wouldn't mind the weekly videos if she just wanted us to summarize them with bullet points. Too much work to write paragraphs and paragraphs for just one video out of 14, for the week. Especially when she's a tough grader and the videos usually repeat themselves.
Professor Laffranchini is awesome. There is so much detail in this class but she does a great job in giving clear instruction. The videos summaries are tough, but worth the time. If you skip the reading, you will fail. Do your reading and quizzes. She is very engaging with your assignment feedback and you will get credit for the work you do.
She is AMAZING! If you do the assignments, you get the credit. The tests can be challenging, but an easy A overall. You read the chapter(s) (1-3 hours), do a quick assignment while reading for comprehension (20 mins), take a quiz (15 mins), and write a paper about some videos (2-4 hours) and she gives you extra credit just for doing good work.
She is the worst teacher I've ever had. Her tests aren't worded correctly and when you e-mail her about the mistakes, she doubles down on how you're wrong even though HER OWN NOTES said otherwise. Her homework is poorly worded and she provided no guidance and then complains that the whole class should have read the syllabus better. Just avoid her.
