Some people give her crap, but I think she deserves a lot of respect.

Hey she is nasty at first, but if you can see threw her sarcasm she is just a person trying to help you learn about clouds. So just be sarcastic with her and dont do your homework, she loves that.
i like it when you go up and ask her a question and all she does is make you feel stupid. But when you walk out feeling stupid you realize you still have the question

if it's web based, go straight to records and registration and GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN. No one knows what is going on in the class including the teacher. The reviews are not helpful, and the tests are stupid usually invovling you to role play as air
I have not learned one thing in her class. Just wasted my time and $$$. if you have already registered for 201 web class----do not take it. It was horrible. Good luck.
Most freshmen who take her for 201 will dislike her, but in the long run when you get to her upper level classes you'll see she's a really nice person and probably the best WX teacher in the building. Makes you work, especially in 352
She is one of the worst teachers i have ever had. I had her my first semester at riddle and i barley passed. I went to every Tue and Thursday class, and got help in the weather center from herbster (he was the saving grace) she is the devil
I am getting an A in the class and I still hate her. Whatever you do, do NOT ask her a question. The level of aggrivation that ensues is comical. You ask her anything and veins start popping.

She is an ex-air force ****. Very mean. Very lazy. For a T/Th class, she only taught on Tuesdays. So how are you supposed to learn??
Tough,web course is different and makes me have to work lots of homework. Web course gives me more freedom. Gives good reviews. She wants you to T H I N K. She relates material to aviation when possible. Really helpful if you just ask.

If you just ask Ms. Schaum for help, you will get it, she likes to see effort for the grade that you recieve. Great WX teacher with a military background. I made 2 A's in her class anlog with all the information that I recieved.

Lack of good lecture notes and good text made this class a bit difficult. Had many questions after every class, its a good idea to see her before tests and clear things up.
Web based. Horrible teacher, stops mid-sentence, can't teach. Test reviews have nothing to do with the test. Tests are all short answer, no multiple choice.
Dont take her. All tests are short answer (no multiple choice), and especially for web-based, a lot of BS work!
shes a good professor... very down to earth no BS for her... shes a str8 shooter... just do your work and go to class youll be fine... very web based. shes very hard to talk to but extremely nice... shes kool as hell

Very short fuse. If she likes you, she will help you. If you dont understand something she will help... just dont p*** her off. You will learn in her class even if she has to kill you...
Very knoledgable professor. Just make sure you are respectful and never say any smart-allic comments that would p*** her off. She is a very good teacher when she's in a good mood. Just don't light the fuse, or else there is going to be trouble.
Too much online work. Not clear when its due and what to do online. Horrible way to teach. I would rather turn in homework.

Good Prof if you want the other students to teach you everything. She taught class maybe 5 times all sem. the rest was presentations and busy work. One presentation was 2 days long. Also she never gives back quizes either so if you want to know your grade to bad
Schaum is a perculiar teacher-Either she like your or she doesnt...And god forbid she doesnt like you. If you take notes..WRITE FAST!! She writes like no notes on the board and you have to write from her lectures. Her tests arent that bad, but thats cause she's drilled you like crazy in class.
Make sure to take lots of notes and do the homework. Do the online quizes (they are the final). Read the book, do the work, and you'll get an easy A. Make sure to ask ?'s, she moves quickly through notes and test reviews. This was the web class (lecture tues). Always available for help. AND THINK!
She is a terrible teacher. She makes the already boring weather even more so. She is very ****y and she beleives that it is her hour not the student's. Another perfect example of how riddle teachers treat the students like S*!T.
I never had Schaum as a professor, but I have gotten to know her. Shes an awesome person and is very willing to help. I hear from freinds that her classes can be a little difficult and some of her tests unforgiving but she is always willing to help you and as long as you know your stuff and dont BS her youll be fine.
She doesnt teach much but tests a lot you really have to listen and study to pull off a grade like mine
WTF!!!! worst teacher ever!! Gets off on making the students work there asses off and then is too lazy to even grade the assignments in reasonable time period. Then makes the students do alot of long ass projects (2 class period presentation) so she doesnt have to do SH*T!! Seriously worthless. Avoid at all cost
Cool Lady, just make sure you stay on her good side... she has a tendency to make those who she doesn't like look like a complete dumb@*!. Gotta bear through the first couple weeks of HW and then the load lightens up

Not a very good teacher. Tests are very hard and her lectures are confusing. She will give you help if you ask for it though.

TERRIBLE!! Worst Class I have ever taken in my entire life! Avoid at all costs! Doesnt give a **** about the students, and she is also extremly unclear in her objectives. Simply put I havent learned a thing all semester.

I had her for the experiment class (all 3 teachers teaching). She doesnt know how to lecture. She has trouble putting her words together and speaking clearly. She also likes to complain about the tests (m/c instead of how she likes short answer). She was an alright teacher labs were super easy! if you take this class make sure you get all 3!
One of the most rude people I have met in my life. She is completely belligerent towards males in the class. She becomes confrontational if you have questions regarding the lecture or lab. AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!

Not much to remark on. Kind of ****y sometimes. Seems like she has too much experience to be working here.
Outstanding professor. You treat her with respect, she will do the same in return. Stay awake, pay attention, and submit work on time and you are golden.
Not much to complain about...everyone warned me that she would be a terrible teacher, but I found her to be just the opposite. So long as you don't act like a jackass, submit your work on time, and participate in class you'll be okay. Oh wait, that's what we're supposed to do IN COLLEGE anyway. Can you blame her if she gets pissed when we don't?

She is the worst teacher in the world. It is a crime that she is even allowed to call herself a teacher as she does absolutely nothing but read slides in class. Her favorite phrase is "go to the weather lab for help" since she is still convinced magic happens when she "teaches" the little calculus it takes for this class. All in all she sucks.
she starts off kinda of mean but isnt that bad. most everyone either loves her or hates her. but she will help you just ask do your work and participate believe me she is a really good person
EASY Professor. I skipped her class a lot, did the labs (put effort in them), failed 2 out of 3 tests, and still ended up with a B. Final is optional is replaces lowest test grade. Shes really easy. If people think shes hard they need to go back to high school, this is college, your not going to get a free A handed out to you.
As a Instructor pilot, I can tell you this prof. is highly UNqualified to teach this course. The class is called weather for AIRCREWS...shouldnt someone more knowledgable be teaching this course. She reads slides that she clearly didn't make her self and half of the more advanced students (like me) constantly correct her or teach her otherwise.

There are so many adjectives I could use to describe this monster, but I won't. I will simply say this...As a professional in the field of aviation and instruction, this lady makes me sick. A profession teacher, at a professional University needs to be on time and knowledgeable. She is neither of these. She is terrible. What a waste of $3000+
I think shes great. Very friendly. If you do the labs and study her study guides for the test you'll do fine. Also, all the class slides are online so you can pretty much teach yourself at home if you wanted to. I'd recommend her.
She is not a teacher, nonetheless a professor. She knows her stuff, but can't teach it. Basically just reads off the slides. Test are ok, some questions don't make sense. Labs are easy, at least i think they are but i wouldnt know because she hasnt graded any yet. i wish i knew my grade. I wouldnt take her ever again. Doesn't help students.
Do not correct her, you will regret it. Just remember that she knows everything. Asking for help is a sign of weakness in her eyes and you'll be lucky to even get a grunt of recognition out of her. Enjoy the show...I mean class...
Makes too many excuses to why our work is never graded. Doesn't like to provide help. When asked to offer more aids to prepare for tests (that don't relate to offered study guide) her excuse is "we're college students. We don't need it." Lazy. Lacks preparedness often. Rude. And when she is in a bad mood, she will talk down on the class.
If you actually like weather like I do, than don't take this class... you WILL be let down. Always has a negative attitude, never provides clear answers, quite rude, unable to teach. Lectures were useless, just ended up teaching myself everything. I know the wx department has much better professors. I'd recommend taking one of them if possible.
Teaches PowerPoint slides, not weather
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This professor can barely be called a teacher, she just recites powerpoint slides instead of teaching. Not to mention that she does not interact with the class, she just reads powerpoint slides to you in a monotone.
Great teacher IMO, she'll be glad to help you, if you study the powerpoint slides you'll get an A on the tests.

Good Professor who knows her subject very well. She will teach you to actually USE the WX products in real life. If your a slacker go elsewhere, cuz you will fail like you deserve.
Nice? Yeah if you're an average submissive student who doesn't ask too many questions. To be honest, I could teach the class just as well: all she does is read standardized powerpoint slides, and in monotone. She's consistent when it comes to being 10 minutes late every class, and taking another 10 to start the lesson. All in all, not recommended.
good teacher but reads off powerpoints has real world expereince in the subject. learn the powerpoints you will do fine.

She never seems too sure about what she's teaching. if you ask her a question, she mixes things up and it just gets confusing. tests are hard. 40 question labs each week, they're time consuming. I wouldn't recommend her.
If you follow the student outcomes, you will pass. Try to pay attention as much as possible because the slides don't always hold the information you need. STUDY STUDY STUDY. but don't worry too much, she isn't THAT bad.

DEATH BY POWER POINT!!! lectures are pretty boring labs are good help for the tests and like it was mentioned before if you study the "student outcome" that will help you a lot as well for the tests
Wonderful teacher. She is very busy, but she will do anything necessary to help you pass not only the class you have her for, but all classes.
was able to get an A with relatively no problem. Show up to class, do well on quizzes (which aren't often), and the 2 tests and you're set. She's not the best at giving directions on how to complete some of the bigger projects but she's always in her office for help. GO TO HER OFFICE IF YOU NEED HELP, SHE WILL HELP YOU AND SHE WILL LOVE YOU FOR IT!
Professor Schaum is the best! She's hilarious but really knows her material. She's always available in her office for help. You do a lot of canvas quizzes the whole semester that help with your grade and studying for her tests. She also gives extra credit based on your attendance to your final grade, so if you're boarder line it really helps

Here's a tip to anyone reading this in the future, most specifically to those taking WX410: Something not clear? Email her. Can't meet a deadline? Visit her office. Need guidance? Visit her office. This class is pretty open-ended and can be confusing and difficult; but dear lord is she helpful if you talk to her one-on-one. She is insanely helpful
Digusting, Do not know how to teach seriously. She does not talk this but she teaches like we all know this material before. Plus just boring and powerpoint reading. I really do not like her class at all.

She is a very kind person, definitely quite motherly. Her WX 410 class has a lot of open ended projects and can seem daunting, but she's just looking for you to put in the effort. She's pretty bad with tech, and spends at least 5 mins at the start of each class setting up the presentation. But at the end of the day she wants you to pass.
Excessive amounts of quizzes with little-to-no notice. Does nothing to keep her class engaged, and is rather passive for no reason.
First off she is an awful teacher. All she ever did was read off PowerPoints to us in a monotone voice. But that is not the worst of it. She does not care about her students at all. I was unable to make it into class for the final so I emailed her about the situation. She then submitted me to the integrity board without ever responding to me.

Impossible to stay awake during class. Reads off PowerPoint slides and actively blames her students for being lazy and not caring instead of considering that perhaps she is a poor teacher. No doubt she is an expert in her field and incredibly knowledgeable, but simply not good at teaching.
2 Exams done over the summer. During normal semester there are 3 and they take up about 1/2 of your grade. Extra credit assignments covers topics that will be on the exam. I came in with IFR and I felt relatively confident in the topics covered. Prof Schaum is very knowledable and ready to help her students when needed.
I can guarantee you that Dr. Schaum is extremely knowledgeable about the things she teaches, but she is not very good at teaching it. Classes were her reading off powerpoints in a monotone voice, so it was really easy to get distracted. Tests make up about 60-70% of the grading curriculum and the class average was in the mid 60s.
She struggles with technology. The two exams in this class were rather difficult because no study guide was provided and the exam review did not go into much depth. Most of the time in this class is spent on three group projects. The class content really does not live up to its name; if you are a pilot, this class will not help you.
Prof. Schaum was great. She does read off of PowerPoint slides for lectures, be prepared for that as it can get boring. Take notes ahead of time since she does go fairly quickly and make sure you participate when she asks questions. Participating is the single best thing you can do in this class to get a good grade. Her office-hours are also good.
Avoid if you could
Dr. Schaum is wonderful. While her lectures are pretty monotonous, it is easy to get a good grade in her class as long as you read the textbook, participate when she asks questions, and put effort into learning the material. She is always available to help, she is very knowledgeable, and she genuinely cares about her students.
Probably the worst professor I have had here at ERAU, she taught 301 content in 201 class as a means to avoid creating new assignments etc. She just read off the PowerPoints everyday, all summer.
Her high-cholesterol voice makes her sound very boring while speaking. She reads off a PowerPoint for the whole semester so get ready to fall asleep in class. Tests are extremely hard, so you will actually need to pay attention in class, and perhaps even study before the tests. However, a lot of luck plays into your grade.
Even if you pay attention to the PowerPoint and listen to everything the professor says, you won't do well on the test (getting an A). There are questions that are so much more complex than what you learn in class. For example "Identify the cloud in the photos" and they literally look like all of the same types of clouds. Don't expect to get an A
SUPER hard class and her lectures not make sense at all. Does not curve tests and expects you to know everything. The class is exceptionally challenging, which can be demoralizing when students are trying their best to grasp the material.
Very bland and boring lectures. Offers little to no study materials and often tells you to do the practice test that are nothing like the test. Class average was often a 30/40 on most test and even lower on the later test. STAY AWAY!
Prof. Schaum is a great professor who genuinely cares about her students. Although WX301 is lecture-heavy, she teaches it in a way that is understanding and seemingly makes sure everyone understands the material. She also has a lot of real-life experience, which adds value to taking the course with her.
DO NOT TAKE WITH DEBBIE SCHAUM IF YOU CARE ABOUT WEATHER OR YOUR GPA!! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! DROP THAT CLASS!
Be ready to teach yourself. The class is constructed off of 2 group projects, 2 exams and one final paper. The group projects are graded somewhat heavily, and the rubrics lack instructions. The exams are harsh, most of them are written response. No partial credit you either get it right or wrong, don't even fight it with her bc she will not care.
Professor Schaum knows her stuff, but her teaching style can be a bit dry. The class is challenging, with tests making up a large portion of the grade. However, engaging with the material and using study aids like Unstuck AI can really help. Overall, it's a tough but rewarding course.
Professor Schaum is a great professor, WX301 is a difficult class and she explains the material well. Do take note that this class is very lecture heavy, and good note taking is a necessity if you want to do well. The only downside is that her lecture style can be a bit dry at times. Overall challenging but good course, would take again.
