very GOOD teacher!!! you'll drop the class in a week!!!heheheh
No Comments
the worst classroom experience i have ever had! no joke...
Worst teacher ever
Deboleena used to teach at UCLA, so she can be tough. But she gives tons of opportunities for easy points. Her lectures are somewhat hard to follow if you don't study outside of class, but labs are straight forward. All-in-all, an okay teacher.
Not an easy A, but chem never is. Everything is explained and all material needed on tests is covered in lecture. Just stick it out and you can get an A/B. Important to not give up, final is a lot easier than rest of tests!
You can get up to 4% of the total grade in extra credit just for doing beacon and science study skills! Tests are much easier than other chem teacher's tests that Ive seen. Overall, very gettable A
Very difficult in all regards. Thick accent, not willing to answer questions, tests are hard, she is mean, would not recommend at all. Would recommend Greg Jorgenson for Chem 1A.
Disrespectful and difficult to understand.
She's the epitome of the worst teacher ever. And she has a very thick accent. Very hard to understand.
Doesnt like to answer any questions. Goes at a fast pace.
Extremely unapproachable, doesnt handle sarcasm well, thick accent, gives you the hardest way possible for the explaination of the problem. Would not recommend!!!!
This class if difficult because it is usually the first Chem class for most people. If you don't read the text outside of class, you'll not do well, and not just for this class, it's all chem classes. Deboleena is a good teacher, she just doesn't take any crap from anyone, and I don't blame her.
She is very good teacher. As long as you come to class, do your homework, come to beacon tutor, and come to lab. You will be ready.
"is this clear?" no it's not clear. horrible teacher. her grading was skewed so one could easily pass with no effort: open book exams and homework on webassign. this was for funeral services. however, if all her classes are like that then i do recommend her. to learn chem i don't recom. her.
her accent is so thick it is hard to understand her. she also goes VERY quickly and refuses to recover material if u do not understand it.
Excellent teacher, Heplful when asking a question, but you need to be perpared when coming to class read the book, go to beacon and stay on top of the homework.
This instructor is an excellent college level instructor. Followed the syllabus and was open to discussion and explanation. She related this course to every day life application and I found that to be helpful. If you don't like to study, this is not the class for you. Very intelligent, accent was not an issue.
She is the DEVIL!!! Very unclear, very difficult, horrible instructor.
I liked her a lot. Her tests weren't too difficult, but you have to know how to do the problem solving stuff. Just read the book, do the homework and go to Beacon as much as possible and you will be fine.
Students might have trouble with her accent, particularly if not familiar with language of chemistry. Can be harsh and unaccommodating- even with 5 weeks notice regarding a sched. conflict, she would not allow me to take the quiz either early or late. Sticks to syllabus. Does not present info in a very interesting manner, but tries to be helpful.
I thought she was a wonderful teacher. You have to attend lectures, and do your homework. If you do the questions at the end of the chapters you will be fine. Go to beacon it really helps as well.
I thought she was horrible. I got an A in the class only because I'm very familiar with Chem and Alg. I felt really sorry for the students who tried so hard, but ended up with a C because she refused to explain things in a different way when half the class was lost. She asks if it's clear, but if it isn't, she says it again the same unclear way
I think she's a great teacher. She always explained the material to me in class or after class if I had any trouble with it. One thing, Roy HATES lazy students, so if that pertains to you aviod her class. Welcome to California, for people that have problems with her accent(which isnt bad). Thick accents are normal here, so get used to it.
Very hard accent...was very difficult to understand. Very unclear in lecturing. Went over subjects too fast. Tests were ridiculously hard! I passed, but still...try another teacher. You'll do better.
Great instructor. At times the accent was difficult to decipher but she would repeat if you were confused. Get the study guide, all the tests are off the study guide. I got a 98% in the class just doing the study guide before the tests.
Very difficult to understand, goes tooo fast in lecture and will not stop to explain if students have questions. Not approachable. Not enough time for tests. I passed the class but overall she was difficult, take a different professor.
I was doing good til the Friday before Thanksgiving and that is when the professor was very unprofessional and I walked out. I had gone to Beacon as well as Study Skills. I just will never take or offer a student her name as being good. I tried very hard and she like pointing things out that I did or didn't do.
Total ****. Unhelpful and not approachable.Throughout the entire semseter hadno grades posted and would not help students who were not her favorites. I would not take her. Her accent was terrible. Would turn students away asking for help at her office hours. Terrible, terrible teacher. SHe should be fired on how terrible she is. No help. Don take.
if you are not good in chemistry and need a helpful teacher I would not recommend this teacher.
the worste teacher i have ever had...she can't even speak english...
She CAN speak english and is actually very intelligent but her lack of patience is her downfall in these ratings. I have witnessed her getting irritated by questions, especially if you go to her office. We would take turns going to her w/ questions so that it would not seem like one person was always asking. She has no patience for that.
She is hostile toward the students and gives no feedback about work completed. Her thick Indian accent is hard to understand. She changes instructions for labs after they are due. Homework assignments are submitted through a clunky web interface. Second-worst chemistry experience ever.
She was hard to understand, i give you that. But she was VERY easy. I mean come on, she went over everything in class multiple times, and her test questions are straight from the study guide. I don't know what else you people want. She teaches like she's teaching to highschool students, not college students. I'd personally recommend her.
Oh, God what have I done wrong to get stuck with that Professor? There is no escape because there is only one Chem309 class. I am a A student but I have a feeling that I will have F in this Class because she is hostile, hateful and disguisting!
She is a challenging instructor but very fair. Chemistry is a difficult course. She is very knowlegeable and interested in her students' success provided they are trying their best. If you apply yourself you will do well in her class.
She is the Hell, the worst Teacher ever!
2 Words: Horrible Instructor OR Stay Away
Deboleena is difficult to understand at times due to her accent, however, if you are attentive, a good listener and prepare yourself for the lesson & study by reading your text book you should be able to pass her class with ease. She used blackboard for homework assignments which I enjoyed. Chem is a difficult subject, studying is crucial
Her accent is not a problem. If you know English you should be fine. She is very helpful. She explain things very well and she wants students to succed. Off course, you need to do the work to pass, but if you do, she is not hard to take a very good grade. I strongly recommend her.
Great professor. There were many times when I was worried about my grade in this class. Her accent is not a problem, she makes sure of that. There is a lot of material and she condenses it well. I would recommend her and the class for future students. She is a tough grader, but follow the book and use her power points.
Prof. Roy is actually a very good instructor who genuinely wants her students to pass. She holds problem solving sessions which were excellent and helped me do well in her class. There is also Beacon tutoring for those who want to attend. She is very nice and very knowlegeable. It is not an easy class, you must study in order to do well.
I took CHEM 309 to avoid having to take General and Organic. I wish that there had been another option. Prof. Roy is unwilling to make any compromises for you. Furthermore, if your schedule conflicts with her review sessions, you are at a disadvantage in the class. I often was not sure what was going to be covered in the exams.
Dr. Roy is a great teacher and students at ARC should be proud to have someone of her caliber teaching there. There are very few places were a professor will be helping you and talking to you in lab...she is one of them. She's also very witty and has a wonderfully dark sense of humor. Dedicated students will find her a joy...
I really liked Dr. Roy for Organic chemistry. She has a tough attitude at first, but she really is a super nice teacher, with tons of personality if you talk to her. She is probably the most helpful teacher I have ever had, will stay late and come early. I would reccomend her! Many opprotunities for points if you try!! Ochem isnt easy!
I agree, stay away! Very impatient. When you ask her a question, she talks about everything else BUT the answer. Very picky about what you do or don't write on labs, and marks you wrong even if you're partner's right! She doesn't like her students to pass and uses the excuse that she's just tough. Hah! Very anal! I don't recommend her to anyone!
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR! Stay far away from all of her classes! She does not want her students to succeed, and she loved marking every little thing off of your labs and tests. If you get on her bad side, you'll stay on her bad side. It's not worth screwing up your GPA if you are a nursing major.
She is the worst professor I have ever had. I am a biochem major attending Davis, and when I took her class I really learned nothing from her. She is lazy, and mostly incomprehensible. She has the worst attitude, and has no intension of teaching well to anyone. D.Roy is the worst professor, PERIOD.
Yes, Dr. Roy is a very difficult professor. But she warns you at the outset of the class that if you don't have the time to commit, don't bother. I liked her, but my concern is she occasionally doesn't know what she's talking about when she responds to a healthcare-related question :-/ Other than that, she's a witty, intelligent professor.
The teacher is nice and approachable but she does not like to explain things. Get the Soln's Manual if you don't already have it. It will save your life in this class. Do the extra credit hw which is due on the exam day, guaranteed she includes some of the same exact questions on the test. Hw's easy in general and she is flex about hw due dates.
It's an easy class but don't expect any help from the teacher. If you have questions in lab she refers you to re-read the material even if you read it 2-3 times already, she doesn't care. I think this way she hides the fact she doesn't know the info either. Never gives an overall grade update. Write grades down to know where you stand at any point.
Dr. Roy is a good teacher. She was always lenient, and let us retake virtually every major quiz that we did poorly on. All of the tests had extra points on then (i.e. 110 possible, graded out of 100) She likes to joke around too, so labs were fun. Overall, I recommend her, just take an interest in the subject and really try.
I took her class Fall of 08' and I have to say that the class is very hard. I think she is a VERY good teacher and knows what she is taking about. You have to work very hard, but she is very nice and funny once you get into the semester. Going to the review sessions is a MUST. She takes problems straight from review and puts them on the tests.
I took her review class for chem 309 and I think it was helpfull. I had read her reviews prior to talking chem 309 and I do not think they are accurate. Dr. Roy is a very nice lady and will help her students. Don't be affraid of her class!
Hard to understand and moves on too fast.
While she does know what she's talking about, her class can get pretty difficult. If you pay attention and study a lot you have a possibility of getting an A. Negative: wants questions answered a specific way and if not then she marks you down. Positive: nice and easy going, has a sense of humor.
OMG! Very hard class. Would not take her again. Do not take unless you have a solid background in Chem. Does not treat everyone equal. While she answered my questions, she did not for others. Does not explain things well, can get frustrated & confused explaining & does not care if you understand. Too picky on work submitted, takes off in .1 pts.
VERY difficult class, do NOT miss a lecture: missing even one class session can mean the difference in passing course or not. Covers an insane amount of info in one semester. Appears interested in student success but will just tell you to re-read material if you ask for help. Pros: covers two courses in one (305 & 306) and transfers to Sac State!
She's very strict in class. If you're doing anything else other than taking notes she'll call you out in front of everyone. She uses powerpoint lectures to present, but when she uses the whiteboard to elaborate on a topic its a complete mess. Her tests are sometimes tricky because she'll put a topic that she'll briefly mention in class.
Cool class, like sciences, but teachers like Professor Roy will definitly turn you off to the sciences. At least 3 times this semester I felt like giving up. There are really no good qualiities about this chem 309 class or the Professor. Warning: If you want to take chem 309, check into other professors that teach this course.
The professor is very difficult to understand with accent, and says words in a very odd way sometimes, but you get the picture. She is not very helpful and don't dare ask any questions during class! She will get on you and embarrass you for asking, for the rest of the semester. if you say a wrong answer in class she is very rude and condescending
Teacher is not very clear on new concepts and is all over the place during lecture. Whiteboard looks all jumbled up and you can't figure out where she writing something at. When teaching a new idea she does not explain it, she acts as if you should know it already and does not give you the tools you need to succeed. Book work is very crucial tho!
This professor is very difficult & takes much concentration & dedication to this course. if you have other studies & busy life, don't suggest taking this class.
Take this class during spring, avoid this teacher! She is not clear whatsoever. She doesn't teach very well and it is difficult to understand her. Her lectures consist of her flipping through slides doing very few examples, and she will tell you you can figure it out on your own. She's not very helpful, tells you to use your textbook.doesn't answer
I recommend doing all of the book work. Some questions will be pulled from them for the tests. She gives you a study guide from a diff. teacher and it is not helpful nor relevant to her own tests. It as easier not to use the practice test. She also uses slides directly from textbook, not her own. Very confusing and accent made it hard to understand
Dr. Roy has the ability to make difficult content easier to understand.I found the class to be difficult but not unbearable.I highly recommend you print out and practice the chapter tutorials and take the chapter exams she offers on D2L.There are questions directly from these sources that are transferred to the exams.Putthe timein and usetutorials
Ok people - this is Chem!! It's hard!! But, with that said, Professor Roy is very nice and helpful. She always answered peoples questions and provided assistance when needed. Chem material is hard - it's just the way it is. Study hard and do all the extra problems you can and you will be fine. Just pay attention! This is college, after all!
Love, Love , LOVE Professor Roy! She makes chemistry somewhat bearable. She's funny in an odd sort of way, and very helpful with class material. She knows all of her students and wants everyone to succeed. It is a hard class, but you can get a good grade if you try. Be prepared to spend a lot of time studying. Good luck!
Great Prof! She is hysterical, but I don't think she knows it. She cares about everyone's success in the class. Print out notes to use in lecture, do the problems in the book, do the tutorials, do the practice tests, go to every class and lab. lab quizzes are an easy 10 pts. With that you will get at least a B if not an A. Cheers!
Ok so during fall 2010 I attempted to take professor Roy and it was the worst chem experience ever. She was so impatient and unapproachable that is was hard to complete assignments due to her not answering questions appropriately. She has absolutely no student support system or resources to help pass the class. "You have to have patience to teach"
I'm really irritated with everyones comments on Dr. Roy.She is such a sweetheart and reading all of these comments really made me nervous before the semester. This is my first time EVER taking chemistry and I had no choice in this teacher, but I am grateful for her.She is funny and causes a lot of "WOW" moments. Her accent is not a problem. No worries
LOVE Dr. Roy! She is fantastic. The concepts would seem incomprehensible in the book, but her lectures made everything clear and understandable. Tests can be tough, but she grades generously. Lots of work to turn in and lots of quizzes = points = better grade. Study hard, show up and you'll do fine. Highly recommend Dr. Roy!
You may think that she grades harshly, but then she reminds you that single mistake in a nursing field that involves Chemistry could be fatal. If you listen she will teach everything you need to know and will help no matter how many times you mess up. Just don't get on her bad side.
Dr. Roy is great! Super organized; everything's on D2L. Print power points before class; online HW quiz every week-easy if you read the chapter. I outlined each chapter and did end-of-chapter questions in book; very helpful. She's straightforward; you know exactly what to expect. Gives lots of study guides. Go to her office hours. I got an A.
She has an accent that is hard to understand, moves too fast, and test are extremely hard. Grades way harsh, but she does care if you're there or not. I would suggest taking this with a different teacher. AVOID.
Take her! EASY A! She has an accent but because of that she repeats everything you wont fall behind! Don't need the book just print out lecture write on. Make flash cards! She gives old tests to stud for! Study tutorials/wrksheets Qs and Ans. uses same on test! I had 93% cause I forgot to turn in stuff. Don't be late be very detailed on answers!!
The first time I took the class, it was admittedly a very bad experience. Dr. Roy has no patience with people who don't apply themselves. That being said, the second time around it was undoubtedly one of my better classes. Do the textbook problems, do the extra problems, study old exams, and you'll easily get a B.
its an accelerated course, you better be prepared. with short answer questions BE DETAILED! Uses D2L,powerpoints reading HW's are 1/wk on D2L. lots of tutorials and old tests to help you prepare for exams DO THEM! take advantage of SSC and BEACON its extra credit. She may seem intimidating at first but stick through it! Shes always willing to help.
Try to avoid.I put so much work into this class and I still got an B. She grades really strict but she's nice.
Fellow students, have you registered in this class because you could not get into classes of other professors, drop and have patience rather than sitting in her class it is counterproductive.
I LOVE Prof. Roy! The negative feedback is probably from students who didn't put in the work necessary to succeed. It's an accelerated class that takes a lot of practice but Roy makes it clear what steps to take to get an A. She also provides a lot of extra credit! It was my first Chem class ever and I got an A so I know anyone can. Just practice!
Professor Roy is one of the best teachers I have ever had. The curriculum can be challenging, but when she literally does everything she can do to help you succeed and learn the material. I had very little chemistry knowledge before and got an A. Do the handouts, practice tests on D2L, read the book, and you'll be fine. Prof. Roy is fantastic!
She is a nice professor. She explains a lot and lots of homework. She is not easy but chemistry 309 itself is not a easy course. She can confuse you sometimes but if you pre-reading than you can understand much better. if you do all the paper work, you can get B+.
She is ok to take. You just have to spend a lot of time doing homework and studying. Chem 309 is not a easy class itself but is you never taken any chemistry before I suggest take Chem 305 or do not take any other hard class with this professor.
This was one of the most challenging and rewarding classes I have taken in a while. It is definitely an accelerated course and I treated as if it was. Dr. Roy presented the material effectively and everyone knew exactly what was expected of them. I'm a better student for taking this course with Dr. Roy.
She is very organized, very clear in her lectures, and a very fair grader. It is not an easy class, but she provides study guides for each exam and practice tests from previous semesters for practice. Take advantage of those, those are your good examples of what the test will be like. I highly recommend to take her. Good luck.
Roy was great. She wanted you to succeed and provided tutorials and practice tests to help you succeed. I really have no complaints. I highly recommend her. Obviously chemistry isnt an easy subject, but if you have good study habits this should not be too bad.
Dr. Roy is def not an easy teacher but she is super friendly and always there to help you. If you put the time and effort in to the class and show her you truly care about your grade she will do anything to help you succeed. If you try hard and stay on top of the work you will do great. She is awesome and super funny. You get what you put in!
Don't miss lecture, she often mentions something not from the book once or twice and it shows up on the test. Very unfair grading, she grades you against who she feels has the better answer. If your paper is graded first you may be ok, but if as she goes along she sees better answers she will start grading harder. She freely admits this.
Roy is a very nice professor. Chemistry is not easy, but she explains well enough for you to get a grasp on the topic. Attend all the labs, do pre-lab and post-lab, do the online quizzes, read the book, DO THE PRACTICE TEST
Dr. Roy is awesome. If you don't make an effort you won't pass. She is very understanding if you try your best. Make convo with her and you will enjoy her! Chem is hard but she is by far the best teacher I have had. Would take her again in a heartbeat! Make time to study , essential to passing!!!
No help here! Avoid if you can.
Chem is tough no matter who you take it with. That being said, Roy is a pretty good with the subject. At times she can be confusing but just stick with it & PRACTICE PROBLEMS FROM THE BOOK! Exams are hard but w generous curves. She made her labs "fun" and educational. She is really nice & very interested in the career paths of students.
Professor Roy is amazing! Be sure to work for your grade. Her accent isn't bad at all so don't worry about that. Come to class though, the way she explains things makes way more sense than the book. Don't buy the solution guide, there's no point. DO ONLINE TUTORIALS AND PRACTICE TESTS. Do the labs. You can do it if you put in enough effort! :)
Take her, seriously. I loved her class, it was much better than I expected. I was so nervous for chemistry because I hadn't taken it since sophomore year of high school. Come to class and LAB, make sure you do the online study guides. You can't bs things; you need to understand the material. Show her your effort and you will get an A! Good luck :)
Don't pay attention to the low rating. It took some effort in this class but I ended up with an A. She curves all of her test generously, and is really very interesting and knowledgeable. Ask questions, do the study guides online, lab is important. Just pay attention, study, and you'll do great! She's one of my favorites.
She's the best. She curves each test, one time my test grade went from like a C to a B, she's that helpful. Do each assignment, make sure you interact with her so you're not just a face in the crowd, and show up to lecture. She is truly knowledgeable and you will learn so much. I loved this class! One of my favorite professors.
Wonderful professor. I would highly recommend her. She is super friendly and very interested in what her students are going for. Always ready to help, and her lectures are so clear! She saved my semester. Be sure to study though, but it's college, you should know that. Don't slack off, put in effort and you will do great!
Professor Roy can be somewhat clear, but expects you to understand the subject instantly. She's an extremely tough grader; if you do not put the exact words she wants to see, she will mark you down completely.
This class is not easy&fast-paced. She lets you know this all the time. She gives worksheets before tests and has online tutorials (study guides). DO THE TUTORIALS. She'll tell you that you'll need to do more than what you do in class in lab do to well in the class, this is true. She'll help you if she sees that you put in effort. I enjoyed her!
Dr. Roy is an amazing instructor. She does have an accent so really listen to the lecture. She is very clear in her expectations, there is a lot of work so form study groups and take the tutoring offered.
Great professor. Ochem is hard no matter what. Exams are tough, but that's par for the course. She gives a generous curve and offers about 2% of extra credit.
Class is very challenging. Sometimes she will not elaborate on a topic and will simply expect you to figure it out on your own. Very tough grader. Wants answers explained her way or no way.
test are very hard, written exams only, you have to write it the way she wants otherwise it'll be marked wrong, no multiple choice test at all, you'll have to be detailed, heavy lectures, hard tests, online homework, quizzes in lab about labs, her accent is hard to understand sometimes, grading on d2l will be weighted, not by points - very tough!
If you don't pay attention in class, it'll be hard to catch on later. It's definitely not an easy class and fast paced. Her tests are very difficult and if you don't write the responses in her words she will mark you down.
Ochem is hard, but Prof Roy did not make it any easier. She hardly answers your questions on hw before its due and then grades harshly. She gives lab quizzes and asks about the most tedious stuff. She was not clear on what we had to know for exams. She doesn't seem to like answering questions in class but welcomes everyone to her office hours.
Organic chemistry is one of the most intimidating courses for any STEM major. The chem 423 class is very accelerated and cannot be taken with a large course load. Frequent lab quizzes and homework keeps you on your toes. You have at least one or two things due each class. If you meet with her regularly and ask questions she will help you. Good Prof
If you're aiming for an A don't take her, but if you want to really understand and enjoy chemistry, she is the best out there. She gives study guides that are very similar to the test, and she makes you work really hard.I had so much fun at her class, she explains very well and expects you to attend and pay attention.
Roy is a wonderful professor. You get online homework, but it's easy. If you don't understand a question Roy helps and most times give you the answer. Pay attention to her lectures and you'll do well. Her test are straight forward from lectures, assignments, and practice test. I pass with an A and it's very unusual for me to do well in science.
Don't skip class, don't be late. DO make an effort to participate in class and in lab. There IS a LOT of work in this class, and it's not an easy subject. Dr. Roy is very clear about the difficulty of this class, the fast pace, and how much work it will take for a student to do well, but she DOES care about her students.
You really have to work and make sure that you write your answers in the way that she tells you to or you won't get an A. The tests are written and the lab quizzes are multiple choice. If you just practice and study you will be just fine.
Best thing about the class is that she always connects everything to biology. Why you need to know this and why it is important. Worst thing is the way she grades. If its not in her words, its not right. How she grades is extremely frustrating. Youll see when you take her class. She does know what she is teaching though.
The class was extremely difficult, but that was due to the material, not the professor. She was very caring and organized, graded assignments/tests quickly. Very accessible and willing to help as long as you put in the work.
She is very lecture heavy, doesnt give many notes during class. And expect you to know everything from the reading homework. Doesnt do extra credit or make up work. You have to come to class or you will not pass. I wouldnt take her again because she not very helpful and very har quiz and test.
Very strict, demanding, expect you to understand everything after lecture and at times, rude to students (at the beginning and middle of the semester). It is a shame she doesn't allow recorders in class and I understand why...
I did not do too well in this class but that is due to my own personal matters. Professor Roy was helpful when you needed it, she gave everyone equal chances to be successful. She offers a study session which I couldn't go too but it seemed to really help everyone who could go. I really liked having her as a professor.
The most difficult professor I've ever had. Disrespectful to students and very unwilling to go back and reexplain. Hypercritical on grading; will take points off in labs and exams if answers are given in ways other than what she taught. Does not explicitly explain what is asked for in test questions, then mark down for not giving what she wanted.
Very difficult class
Im usually really good in chem/bio, but this class was on a different level. Had to teach myself the entire semester. She was never clear on test questions (all written) and labs and marked everything wrong if not answered in her words. She makes you feel stupid if you ask a question and expects you to learn everything as soon as she goes over it.
This was the most challenging class I have ever taken and the professor was not any better. She is good with demonstrating, however the homework and quizzes only reflect less than 10% of the test. She does not provide study guides for the test. Be prepared to learn a lot but chances are high that you will fail terribly.
When most students in a course fail, it says more about the teacher than students. She micromanages students in areas that aren't necessary to the course. I wouldn't call her a professor; it felt like I was back in high school. She isn't even fluent in English! She struggled to explain basic concepts. Find a prof. that treats others with respect.
I will conclude what I need to say shes let you feel stupid and disappointed Very hard not as a class but from her side yes isnt that easy Dont take her! She wasted my time I should dropped this class But I give her many chances I think Im wrong but as you see many students feel the same. Tough grader Need her answers in her own way no your way
So bad class I had take at all ever cause she's acting good at first. She changing her minds regarding the grades many time so if you were with an A your grade will skip down to C-. She is jealous and doesn't want any student to be with an A grade. She grade the assignment and tests in wrong way and not correct, not the same as the book.
So awful very bad. If we have in the dictionary more than the word (BAD) I will say it for her. Very rude to all students. All students do not appear their faces to zoom, just audio, and she focusing on one person to take him down. Racism. Don't take her. Make a drop. I will graduate next semester but with her, she makes me disappointed. BAAAD!
very bad prof no extra credit and she didn't grade all the assignments and tests correctly. She changed the test question after I was with an A grade tfrom multiple choice to blank and even with blank I answer the question comletly right as the book but she want it as she thought to be that's not fair!! wouldn't take her class again.
So bad .
Wasn't helping Prof and grade everything as she want not as you answer correctly this class was waste for time. Wouldn't take her again.
Her lectures isn't clear not grading well not helpful, disappointed, doesn't encourage you, doesn't care, give the lectures for her self no matter if you understand or not. No extra credit. Wouldn't take her again :(
What you will do in HW, Lecture, Quiz is not what you will find on the test. She puts information on test's she hasn't even tought, or will teach in future.
She bring the questions of tests and quizzes out off the book so you cant pass this class as much as you try. I made drop. Wouldnt take her again.
Professor Roy has office hours and always responds to emails. Chem 309 is a hard class because it is 2 semesters of chemistry in 1, there is a quiz almost every week and a homework assignment every week. There is no busywork but if you want to pass the class you need to study because the tests and quizzes include a lot of information.
Any chemistry class will be hard, that's the cost of taking chem. Dr. Roy makes classes like chemistry a real pleasure to take. She knows the material extensively and knows how to teach it. She's fair when grading and extremely caring. A real inspiration for any student pursuing an education in STEM.
She does not respond to email or care. I asked for help &was told to drop. After ignoring emails about my health issues &help she reached out to an admissions counselor instead & discussed personal matters while taking role. Lectures are poor at best &tests are not consistent w/ them. She grades & changes it days later. Worst professor Ive taken.
I mentioned lots of homework. Not actual assigned, graded homework (about 1 /week) but the work you have to do on your own to prepare for the tests. Most of the lecture is spent working independently. Basically there for questions. Dont bother emailing for help, she wont respond. Dont get too attached to your grades, they change days later.
Professor Roy is the worst professor there is. She does not care about her students AT ALL. She does not respond to emails. I do not think she even reads her emails. She kicks students out of meetings for asking questions. Does not properly answer questions. We had tons of exams and quizzes. The online meetings are waaay too long.
Deboleena Roy is very very Bad. She dont care if you learn in class or not, She is not even fluent in English. You will see totally new thing on exams that you cannot find on the book or she will talk about it later after the exam. Dont bother to email her because she wont respond at all. NOT RECOMMEND.
Lectures dont accurately cover test material. There is a lot of guess work on tests even with the study material provided. Dont understand? Hopefully you have access to YouTube because she will not respond to you and if you ask during class she will make you feel like a clown. Lots of independent study to do well.
I watched this woman ignore the plight of students struggling with class, but especially to my friend & sometimes me. It was always dont make excuses or ask the college for help even though this pandemic has made it harder for everyone. Lecture online is also long, lab simulations would glitch, & heavy amounts of readings.
Health issues? She doesnt care to help. Have a question? Use other resources because she doesnt respond to emails & makes you feel like an idiotic child if you ask during class. Make an error? Prepare to have that acknowledged during class. Good at tests? Not anymore because she teaches material you arent tested on & study guides are useless.
Professor Roy is a great professor. She gives clear lectures and reading criteria, and the class was good even over zoom. Take notes, read the book, do practice problems, go to office hours and you'll pass the class no problem. Quizzes and tests are derived straight from lectures and reading so put in the work and she will guide you well!!!
Alright, this professor knows her stuff for sure but when it comes to teaching she is terrible. She doesn't cover material that is put on tests. She expects you to teach yourself and doesn't care about your situation in life. During a test there was an error and the question made no sense. I asked her to clarify/fix it. Her response was "good luck"
I am horrible at chemistry. This is actually the first time I took a chemistry class. I start from zero. Professor Roy's lectures are easy to follow, if you get lost, you are very welcome to ask in class or watch the recording later. All the exams and quizzes are based on what she taught in class, and the worksheet in lab is really important.
Has a set lesson plan & doesnt do well with questions in the middle, to the point where she makes you feel small & asks other students if they were paying attention & can answer. If you email her privately she is vague if she responds at all. Tests are not focused on the study guide & will blindside you. Her classes are never full for a reason
As you can expect from a science class in college, its hard. Im the beginning of the semester we were fully in person and the lectures were great and I left everyday understanding the concept super well. Then she got scared of covid risks and moved lecture online and it threw everyone off. Still going in for worksheets and labs but no lecture
Overall the Professor shows no interest in developing a relationship with her students. Shes inconsiderate, has no sense of reality and how many things can affect a students academic success. Some require more patience, more help, more kindness, MORE OF A CHANCE. Tests are written very complicatedly and W/S are little help as well. Lecture good!
I understood this class would be hard coming into it, you can pass o-Chem! But Prof. Roy is the issue between you understanding/passing it. Shes now posting her lectures in small videos online for an IN-PERSON class, and does not answer questions. If 1 of 36 students understand the material she will blame the other 35 for not trying hard enough.
Avoid taking Prof Roys class at all costs. Her lectures are mediocre at best, and her material will not be on the tests. Exams arent multiple choice (all write in) & quizzes happen almost every week, usually the class after you just learned it. If you ask questions during lectures she belittles you for not understanding and makes you feel small.
The beginning of the semester was amazing. I learned a lot during the lectures and the concepts and reading were easy to keep up with. However, due to increasing COVID scares, she made the lectures online in video form and made us come in to work on worksheets. Lost a lot of motivation and didn't learn anything after that. Study study study!
Tests all short answer/fill-in-the-blank. Tough grader on labs and group projects. Wants you to succeed, but isn't the best at explaining in a different way if you don't understand. Kind, friendly. Our class lectures moved online 1/2 through semester due to Delta Covid spike, lectures suffered greatly. Lots of worksheets, all helpful for study.
Decent prof, she cares a lot about specific wordings and repeating things on tests. She can be confusing and moves quickly through topics. In person lectures were good but online lectures were bad. Reading the book and doing end of chapter problems is what got me through it. Do your work and you'll pass.
Hard grader. Weekly quizzes (online & projectored). 4 Lectures a week (2 due one day, another 2 due in the next two days). Go to class or else you wont understand anything. Lectures started off short then progressively got longer (cant skip or 2x speed). She does care for students but is tough. If ur smart then easy A but if ur lost then good luck
Professor Roy was very nice but this class was very difficult for me. She would give you study guides for the test and then never put anything you studied for on the test. The way she explained things never made sense for me and If you have a hard time processing information like chemistry then dont take her class. She explains things one way only.
Dr. Roy was awesome. The rates made me nervous but I got a B in the class. If I had did the end of chapter problems I probably would have understood the material better. I came to class early and she was always there to help. The class is definitely passable,
Very test heavy, tons of material, doesnt work for multiple learning styles
Professor Roy is very respectful and engaging during her lectures and labs. The problem is that to fully understand everything, you need to put in extra work and time. Sometimes, instructions aren't clear. Reading the textbook and doing the extra credit questions would help with comprehension. She is also open to emails and responds fairly quickly.
Dr. Roy was a good/ok teacher, yes its tough but if your taking her class its a tough subject so be realistic about that and know that a lot of studying and preparation goes into her class. Passing her class is not impossible just make sure you study a lot for exams. She gives you "practice exams" but study her in class worksheets. You'll thank me.
She's a pretty specific grader, but if you put the work in you can absolutely succeed in this class. She is a great teacher and really cares about her students. Read the textbook, watch the lectures, do all the worksheets, and end of chapter questions. She gives you all the tools you need, but it will take time and effort on your part to pass.
Yes, chem is a very difficult subject but I feel having her as a professor made the class even more of a challenge. She isn't able to adapt her teaching style and can come off rude or demeaning at times when you question or don't quite understand her explanations. Wish I would've done my RMP research before taking her class.
Super hard class would not recommend having her as your teacher for this course. Super heavy work & not much time to complete it. Professor has no lenience when it comes to real life emergencies. Harsh on grading as well. Overall I strongly despised this class and found other courses much more enjoyable.
She is a good professor. She sends reminders of things that are due before the class, give credits on watching lectures. Sign up for her Chem 83 class , as they are held every week which will give you in depth knowledge of what you have learned through out the week. She takes her time in explaining if you don't understand a concept.
Absolutely amazing teacher! She explains everything so clearly, short lecture videos, and provides all the material needed for the course. Little to no homework, everything done during lab. 5 points per lab session you do not have to attend but easy points. Extra credit. Gives partial points. Allows notecard for tests
I enjoyed taking Chem 309, this is a college level integrated chemistry course so be prepared for that. Dr. Roy goes up and beyond for her students, every class was interesting and fun. She prints out the lectures and worksheets and offers tu
Professor Roy is knowledgeable in her field and gives great lectures study materials and even practice tests. Chem 83 helpful as well and she is always down to further elaborate on anything that is confusing to you. Having said that VERY tough grader. Easy to lower grade but have to work so hard to raise it even a little bit. Allows flashcard.
She can be clear at times, but her critics and expectations can be unreasonable. 8 Page exam front and back, under 1 hour and 35 mins, and each page is expected to be 15 to 11 mins each. She's very tedious on her lectures and explains everything to the core. She provides different resources besides her lecture which is good. 3/10
Chemistry is a hard subject and she made it more hard. Too much homework and Tests. 8 pages Tests and only 1hour and 35 mins. Most if the time she expect us to know things already that we are here to learn. And she does very strict grading.
If I could rate 0 stars I probably would. She discriminates racially so be wary if you sign up for her class. I had to go to the chair to get my grandes re evaluated because some students would get a higher score but put down the same answer as me. Everything was a battle in this class. She will find any excuse to mark you wrong. AVOID
Honestly, I could have passed if I stayed, but this class is really hard. I'd rather take it with someone else and aim for an A. She provides resources but is a tough grader. I found her intimidating, which added to my stress. If you want a challenging experience with a strict professor, go for it. Just be prepared for a demanding course!
This professor is very nice and explains the material well. However, she is a tough and outrageous grader. I had excellent grades on all computerized tests. Whenever she graded, she would take points off for missing an E in a word or other inconsequential things. Very demoralizing.
VERY heavy workload, Hard grader, no mercy, will take points off for anything. Camera & mic on for quizzes, no notes and unexpected questions, they hurt my grade the most. Her class took ALL of my time. Im in higher percentage of class but struggling to keep my grade at an A. Barely any extra credit, gives 1% for work that takes all semester.
The textbook is in canvas so it's free! She explains things in the lectures clearly and answers any questions in lab. If you pay attention you will have no problems at all. Chemistry is a difficult subject though so don't expect this to be an easy class, Dr Roy is an excellent professor though and I'm glad I took her class. I definitely recommend.
Chem is a hard class, having it with her was not any better. She offers a lot of free resources and opportunities for extra credit, but it takes hours to finish & it doesn't help your grade AT ALL. That was what made me mad. She does have a high ego and doesn't allow students to share knowledge out loud. She also likes to ignore students and is rude.
Dr. Roy is a great professor who really wants her students to learn and succeed. There is a LOT of reading and there are quite a few assignments every week. Although the class is difficult and the material can feel like a lot she does has so many ways to help. She hosts a support class and has tutoring hours every week. She's very knowledgeable.
