So interesting and captivating, amazing prof.
Such an exceptional prof at Windsor, I had to click over to give her top marks!
Helpful, upbeat, loved the slides.
AWESOME prof! Her and Docherty are an awesome team!
Interesting, funny, and fair. One of the best.

Super-helpful, as both prof and undergraduate advisor; crystal-clear on content

Excellent prof, one of the best at WLU
Brains, Looks, Personality, the total package!
smart, pretty, helpful to students. She's the best
Nothing bad to say about her...her last name is hard to spell though.
Very interesting class, well presented
Extremely passionate and knowledgable about subject matter, overall a great prof
she is awesome
An amazing prof!!! Her passion and concern for students is extraordinary.

VERY fair!
I LOVE you! Can we get married?
Amazing. Perfect.
One of the best! Second only to Jim McCutcheon. I love her.
Excellent prof, makes politics interesting
She is an amazing prof, is clear on the subject and basically drills the ideas into ur head
Would be my nominee for prof of the year if not for Dr. Henderson. The epitome of elegance, intelligence and class.
Excellent
BEAUTIFUL!! She's a good prof too!!
Very bright and intelligent woman who makes such an important subject interesting.
She's already married, so you can forget that one. Alright. Not exactly beautiful although that is in the eyes of the beholder. Okay. Pleasant. Helpful although not sure how sincere it all is.

I feel in love with her
Great teacher, great person. So nice and approachable.
Excellent Prof, Shes very approachable with problems and tries to get to know students on a frist name basis. She also keeps the class interesting
Over all one of the better profs in the poli sci dept.- and there are some bad ones- if you get her as a prof-consider your self blessed
AMAZING PROF!! Her lectures and interesting and she has a way of speaking that just grabs your attention. She is very clear in directions and expectations. Tests were very fair.
She is my fav prof of all time! She is organized, concise and to-the-point. Her lectures are engaging and challenging. She is an extremely intelligent woman, who is confident of her abilities. She isnt afraid to say "I don't know". Lots of respe
Another great prof in the poli sci department. Great lectures, even better tutorials with her. Makes the material very interesting.
This class was fantastic! Her lectures are clear, concise, creative and engaging. She is organized and helpful, I learned a ton. I was actually sad when this course came to an end!
Interesting lectures. Very outgoing and obviously loves her job. Very helpful!
She is an amazing prof! She definitely loves her job. I loved how she was very interactive with the students, walking up and down the aisles. She was also very helpful with the material. Not to mention she is very hot! Obviously works out. ;)

Interesting and easy to follow lectures.
She seemed all right. she actually tries to interact with students, but she is very good at discouraging students. Like. you won't get into this kind of law school because you are not smart enough. It was very hurtful, disappoing to hear that kind of comments from your prof. You shouldn't tell students whether or not to apply certain level of schoo
I agree...profs should be much more concerned about their students feelings rather than giving them an honest assessment. Students' feelings should come first.
The person below is right: DVN does hand out a *ton* of work, relative to other profs. On the other hand, she is a very forgiving marker, an incredibly nice person, and can make even the most dry material interesting. Because of the workload, I wouldn't want to take two classes with her at the same time -- but one class per semester sounds good t
Extremely helpful and does her best to make lectures exciting (even on Friday mornings). Shows interest in students who are keen and is very fair in her expectations.
Debora Van Nijnatten is an awesome teacher! She's very passionate about what she does and is great at explaining it! The class has two multiple choice midterms, two papers (like 5 pages each) and a final. That's it! Definitely a good course to take as an elective.
Extremely passionate and knowledgeable. Very nice and engages students in lectures. Tests aren't easy but it's do-able. Willing to help those who seek it.
The reason I became a Poli Sci major! Dr V. Gives super clear lectures and engages the class!
DVN is the best prof ever she really cares about her students. If you show up to class and do the required readings, this class is an easy A.
Absolutely amazing!! She made me really consider switching to poli sci. An amazing lecturer who can turn the most boring topics into an inspirational speech. Would definitely recommend as an elective
BEST prof you can have, especially in your first year. Lecturers are easy to understand and engaging with course work being manageable AND she is a really kind person to go and talk to. Would recommend 100 percent. Love DVN
Poli sci can be a dull subject, but her lectures were always interesting and engaging. You can tell that she loves teaching and what she teaches and this reflects in how much she cares and tries to motivate her students.
Lectures are very interesting, and the course is split up so there are 2 midterms and a final exam. The midterms are multiple choice and most of the questions and answers are given at the beginning of lectures. Overall, an easy and interesting course to take in first year, and the prof is AMAZING!
Very nice teacher. She is a great speaker and is very clear. I would recommend going to class however, her PowerPoints have lots of details on them and they are easy to study off of. She will also change the course curriculum based on current events and that was very interesting.
Lots of energy. I left class with enthusiasm and good vibes.
I found she did not know her material... Read off the slides, and generally treated the class as if they were unskilled.
She was amazing! She had a passion for what she was teaching and it made many people love her lectures. She outlined requirements for exams, midterms and papers very well. I will definitely be taking another class taught by her if possible!
Very intelligent prof. Helpful. Interesting and engaging lectures. Fair marker. Overall, my favorite and most respected prof.
Arguably the best professor i've had throughout university. Beyond the fact that her lectures are actually enjoyable and not dull, she is extremely helpful outside the classroom and her door door is always open to help students succeed.
Absolutely incredible professor. Made my first year experience really memorable and I loved waking up to go to her lectures.
Dr. VanNijnatten was one of the nicest, sweetest profs I've ever had. You can tell how excited she is about politics which make her lectures really enjoyable. She posts all her slides online so you don't really need to go to lectures, and whatever they're missing is in the textbook. Your mark really depends on your TA's grading style.
Very enthusiastic professor, truly someone who is excited to share her knowledge and passion in the field. She's the type of professor you want, especially in a first-year course. To succeed: attend the lectures, then do the textbook readings and if you're ever confused she or your TA will be around to help you! Also, participate in tutorial!
Explains everything in detail over and over again and basically tells you what is on the midterm and exam. Very caring and accommodating. Always has time for students outside of class that need extra help or advice
DVN is to date my favorite prof. Her lectures always woke me right up, and she made even boring concepts interesting. I will forever miss her class. Don't even hesitate to take it. I'm in BBA and took poli sci as an elective, and even though you have to work for it, I really enjoyed it.
She really makes you fall in love with the course. Engages you, makes you laugh and will always be accessible in her office hours.
One of my favourite professors from first year, made showing up to class super enjoyable.
I would die for her. Shes the best prof and honestly a blessing to have in first year.
Dr. V has been a fantastic prof. Her lectures are engaging and she is always more than happy to discuss anything during office hours. As for the course material, it is engaging, quizzes are on interesting topics and always a pleasure to participate.
Dr. V was a delight to have. She is always ready to help and her lectures were always interesting and interactive. She is always ready to listen, and truly has the kindest soul!
Amazing prof!! Her lectures were so much fun to attend and she was extremely nice and helpful whenever I reached out to her. The way she structured this course in response to the pandemic was so helpful and considerate. She's the sweetest, if you have the chance to take a course with her, do it!!!!
Dr. Van, truly inspirational. Came to lectures with positivity and an infectious smile. Always helps when asked, always goes above and beyond. Even posted student answers to the exam to answer why some students did perform as well.
DVN is a gem, she will go out of her way to help in whatever way you need and I seriously don't think I could've gotten through first-year without her. Don't be afraid to reach out to her if you are struggling with a lot of things on your plate or mental health because she will help in a heartbeat. Lectures are great and she's always happy.
DVN is alright. She brought Guzina in to teach with her often, which was annoying. Its significantly less confusing to have only one prof. It may seem like you can skip class and be fine all semester but dont. You'll be screwed for the exam and wanna cry. The exam was 14 pages of work, really stupid. Seems like they forget we have other classes
she's passionate but the new structure is a mess & she is not considerate of mental health or circumstances as these other reviews suggest, also TA marks and she encourages harder marking rather than easier (so even if ur TA is nice ur out of luck) avoid this course if you can, it's not a bird course and unnecessarily alot of work
Love Dr. V, but her TAs are the worst instructors I have ever been in contact with.
Dr. V is an excellent lecturer who is well informed and passionate about the material she teaches. Keep in mind when taking this course that the course material you learn will not be useful until the exam and that the TA's mark hard. It's disappointing to see a professor that was beloved by students prior to covid fail so hard with online learning
DVN takes her class too seriously and expected first year students to write 14 pages to prepare for her exam. This is wlu, stay humble. Her lectures were ok but despite having been teaching for over a year in a pandemic she had no idea how to navigate zoom. Overall, a disappointing class that caused many students to lose interest in Poli Sci :(
I enjoyed PO101 other than the exam. The tutorials were every other week which was nice. A lot of your work is graded by your TA so your mark depended on them. Dr. V is kind but the exam was an insane amount of prep compared to other classes. I got an 86 in the class and a 72 on the exam, which not a lot of students did well on.
DVN's lectures were interesting and she seemed like she cared about her students. However, the exam was bs and she expected her students to write 14 pages worth of preparation. She marked the exam very hard and majority of students did not so well. Also, TA's mark everything and my TA was not pleasent
Very passionate about what she teaches, and an amazing prof. Her lectures were interesting and engaging. Though the final was ridiculous. She gave us 7 questions which were to be 2 pages each and only chose 4 of the questions on the actual exam. Many did poorly including me. My grade dropped significantly. Grade also depends on your TA.
Her lectures are very interesting and engaging. My term was fully online, but she took the time to do her office hours outside in the quad while the weather was nice, so we could get the chance to talk in person. That aside, the exam was a mess. We had to prepare 7 two-page essay questions, but only 4 of them were going to be on the exam.
Absolutely no leniency when it comes to students dealing with extenuating circumstances (ex. missing a tutorial due to a family emergency, even when proof of the event is given). I never expect leniency when it comes to bad grades or just blatantly skipping lectures/tutorials, but a little bit of decency and empathy would be greatly appreciated!
The in course content was never too difficult nor were the quizzes but when it came to mid terms and exams there was no consistency with what she taught. The class was told to refer to the power points for studying which was irrelevant, majority of her class either failed or barley passed she sent out a message blaming the students and berating them
Everything but the final was great. Extremely caring professor, lectures are interesting.
Nice professor, cares about students, but her midterm makes no sense, does not align with really anything learned. all fine print in the textbook that has nothing to do with understanding course concepts
