Really good teacher. Explains things great and notes are easy to follow and very helpful.
Test are very hard.
very nice. no attendance policy which is nice. No homework, but three one to two page papers. Test are very clear, and straight from the notes
No attendance policy but its hard to catch back up after missing class. Two 1-2 page papers that she doesn't give below C's on. Group quizzes every few weeks, which are good to boost your grade. Tests are straight from the notes and easy if you study.
great, easy and so excited about teaching!!!
TAKE THIS WOMAN. she is so nice and doesnt have an attendance policy. her tests are hard, but she loves answering questions and helping out. she gives group quizzes which do tons for your grade. shes interesting and obviously loves it.
Good teacher, really friendly. Her tests are multiple choice but they're hard. No attendance policy, but material from lecture is what is covered on the exams.
GREAT TEACHER! If you aren't that into biology, she help relate the material to everyday life.
Deb is awesome! Did not have her for into bio b/c I'm a bio major, but she went with us to Jamaica and she rocked! She's absolutely wonderful and very passionate about what she does...great gal!
SHE IS AMAZING! She really cares about your grade and uses group quizes, a few assighnments, and extra credit to help you if you're not doing well. VERY NICE and helpful. TAKE HER!! Best Bio teacher i've heard of
She is a great teacher!!! All notes on power point has 3 essays to help grade and extra credit but her test are hard i never made above a C but I could have studied a little more TAKE HER SHE IS GREAT!!
No attendance policy. 3 easy 1-2 page papers. Test aren't easy but she gives you a good study guide so they aren't hard to at least pass. i would only study the night before the test and got an 87, 90, and 86.
OH MY GOD! Professor Bidwell is awesome! You want her for Biology! There is no attendance, but you still need to go for the notes, which all the test questions come from. The group quizzes are great, and those questions are on the test too!

You want her for biology. She makes class interesting, and is quick to respond to e-mail questions before a test. Gives good test review outlines. Wonderful lady!!
THE BEST BIO TEACHER! clear, helpful, nice, tests arent too bad, gives out a very helpful study guide
She is an AWESOME bio pro. She is so sweet and always willing to help you understand anything. 3 relatively easy m/c tests if you study notes from class and a final. 3 two-page hw assignments. If you want bio to be interesting, take her class.
Deb is awesome. She makes the material interesting, is always willing to help you out(she even gives group quizzes), and is a fun lady. Tests not too bad-straight from notes, so go to class and pay attention. If you have to take bio, get her.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!!!!!! i am not very good in biology, but she was so helpful. test are kind of difficult but if you study, you should be fine. she is so easy to talk to, and she takes time to learn your name. she made everything very interesting.
i never went to class b/c she doesn't take attendence and still made an A. She gives a great study guide, all you have to do is study well.dosen't take attendence!tells you about a quiz a week a head and lets you work with anyone or everyone you want to.our entire class worked together, all made 100
She is an awesome teacher! She tries to make lectures interesting and lets you work together on quizes (everyone gets a 100). She gives great study guides for tests and if you pay attention you are almost guaranteed an A. She gives a few short essays (less than 2 pages) but they aren't too hard.
She is great!! She makes the material interesting and explains it in ways we can understand. The tests are fine as long as you study the study guides she gives you and pay attention. Take her!
definitely recommend this class. if you feel like going to class to sit through the lecture, do it. if not, read the book and its the same information pretty much. no attendance policy! and the tests are straight from the review sheets that she gives out. actually easy chance to make a good grade.
Awesome class. She displays the notes on a projector so you can just copy it down. Her friendly scale is off the charts. Take this class.
Lots of notes. 3 Tests are exactly on the notes. 3 Assignments that require outside research, but are not hard. This class is definately pretty interesting with Bidwell. There is an oppurtunity to test out of the final! :)
Great Teacher! She is very nice and will go out of her way to help you after class. She is a liberal but lets face it she is a biology professor, what do you expect. Her test are a little hard but if you study u will pass for sure. Overall Very good! B-rad W.
this class is easy and no attendance required!
She is such a good teacher. The notes are very easy to understand, and she is very helpful. Gives a quiz every week that the whole class can work together on! Great teacher, but you should still study--she can trick you on the tests!:0)
By far the easiest teacher ever!! There were 3 exams (straight from the notes), 10 quizzes (that the class took together, so that's 10 100s), and 3 1-2 page papers. She's very helpful and tries to make Biology as interesting as humanly possible. I would advise any and everybody to take this class!
Excellent teacher and very willing to help.
very good teacher but do not trust her. If she finds out anything negative about you she will prejudge you & hold it against you. Take her class but do not trust her. She is not what she appears to be.
she's a great teacher and uses power point but if you don't study for her tests you aren't going to do well.
She is by far the best professor that I've had yet. She is very clear and makes things very easy to understand. Her tests come straight from the notes and you get a study guide for every test. The whole class gets to work together on quizzes. If you can take her, you won't regret it.
Awesome class. If you can, take it with her. Make sure you show up to class as much as possible, though. Even if you miss one day, you will often find yourself lost in the next class. Plus, the tests are based mainly on the notes, and her lectures are very interesting. True hippy.
I loved her!! she is a great person and teacher. tests aren't bad as long as you study the notes and go to class.
Loves teaching and loves getting to know her students on a personal level. Tests are hard if you dont study, but pretty easy if you do. Keep up with the lectures and go to her for help and you'll be fine! 3 out of clas Assignments and a few "class quizzes" and thats it besides tests! Take her!
Great teacher and hot, too bad she is married
GET OUT NOW not clear - i would recomm. picking another teacher
Very good teacher. Learned a lot. Class is easy if you make an effort to attend all of the lectures.
Awesome!! Great techer who really keeps you interested throughout her lectures. Easy to talk to and approach. Fields any question you may have during lecture. Made a difficult subject easy and fun. If you are going to take Bio 112 you HAVE to take it with Bidwell!! She's awesome and you'll be glad she's your teacher!
Very easy, but also very helpful. I came out of this course with a lot of basic knowledge of biology and am very pleased.
A great teacher, her lectures jump around a bit, but the tests are based off the notes and not the book which is nice if you attend class. Very approachable and uses hands on, group work strategy that help teach concepts very well. Will go over things as many times as needed and is always available for extra help.
Dreadfully hard tests which most of the class does horrible on. Class averages on tests were never above a C-. However, she is always available for help and really clear about what is on tests. Good lecturer, biology is just boring. Three major assignments that are hard. Effective teacher, better then most bio teachers.
Her tests suck- they are very unclear and the questions trick you. She will agree with that too! If I was a bio major, I wouldn't mind hard tests- but I'm not. Instructions on every assignment are confusing. Also, her out of class assignments are tedious and annoying. Although helpful and easy to approach, the grade rarely reflects your effort.
Prof. Bidwell was an amazing professor. I hate biology and all sciences, but she made it interesting and was very organized. She is a very fair professor and will help anytime she can.
She's a great professor. She truly cares if you learn and will go above and beyond to help both in and out of class. Generally I hate science classes, but her approach is down-to-earth, good natured and enjoyable. Since you're gonna have to endure a science class in college, I recommend her as a professor. She's a genuinely nice person.
Professor Bidwell is awesome. If you have to take a Bio class, try to take one with her. Nice, helpful, clear and interesting classes.
She is HOT! Great Bod. Great teacher too!
Wonderful teacher! Explains everything in a clear and organized manner. She is very helpful and will go out of her way to help you learn. Funny and one of the best professors I've ever had. Plus she is a wonderful, likable person too!
Deb is great! She really cares about her students and wants you to learn. She gives you every opportunity to do well in her class. Keeps it interesting. Makes it fun. Just show up and get the notes. Study the NOTES! Write the short papers. Highly recommend.
This lady is awesome. 111 is an incredibly easy class. If you took biology at a high school with any credibility, then this class is such a breeze. Strangely enough, test averages always seemed really low. Every serious pre-med/biology major I know is doing fine, though. Anyone serious about biology should already know all material covered in class
she is a good teacher and not hard to understand.....but you have to pay attention and come to class because it is alot of information
She is really great! Likeable, nice, just go to class and pay attention, which is not especially hard if u take her for a 50 minute block. i would recomment her for 111.
She is the best teacher!doesn't make your grade entirely on tests. Quizzes are group quizes. she lets you exempt the final if you have a "A" test grade avg. She does powerpoints that make it all clear. Wonderful teacher, get her and stick with her if you can! She really is such a good teacher who actually wants you to learn it and will do anything!
Very approachable, and enthusiastic about the subject. She clearly loves teaching and always seems to be in a good mood. She does her best to make the class enjoyable and is very sweet.
She is super nice, and really loves her job. She is fair and always willing to help a student. The class material can be redundant but that is the college and not her. A fantastic professor and I wish I could have her in another class.
Very nice lady, but a horrible teacher. No sense of what she is actually teaching. She simply puts up powerpoints directly from the book and reads from them. Huge waste of time and I regret ever having taken it.
I love Deb! she is such a great teacher and the content is really interesting! If you make a not so great grade if you go talk about it to her wanting her help she'll usually give you extra credit.
very laid back. always in a positive mood. still hard though-very respectable mix.she is right for her job and it shows.
I love having bio with Deb! I was so nervous about taking biology, but with her she make it easier. Her tests are still hard, but she makes you learn the material, which will be good for later biology classes. Quizzes are taken first by yourself, then with a group. The two grades are averaged, so that helps. She is very very nice! Def. take her!
deb is awesome! she is always willing to help or just to talk and the class was really easy for me. the quizes are taking in groups and the test are all multiple choice. attendance isn't madatory on most days but it is class discussion days. the lectures can get long and boring if you already know the stuff but i breezed through this class.
I never went the class and I still passed it. The semester poster projects are a pain, especially the last one were you have to do a research proposal. Do what I did not do, go to class. You should do great.
Good teacher. She really loves what she does and is very helpful and available. I found test to be difficult because she expects you to be able to apply what she teaches not just memorize. She gives easy assignments and quizes to help pull up grades. The class is very interesting and I would definately take her again.
great professor. knows what she is talking about and definately has a passion for teaching. really good at lectures, so you have to pay attention otherwise it's a lot of readin in the textbook, but helpful when asked and very friendly
I thoroughly enjoyed being in deb's class. the class is not an easy 'A' but if you pay attention and ask questions when you have them, you'll do fine. Deb is a wonderful professor and she loves what she does. She's VERY helpful and doesn't mind helping you with any of your troubles throughout the course. I highly recommend taking her class!!
WARNING! Deb will infuse a passion for biology in YOU!!! Only gave out 2-3 A's, but most people made C or better. If you read, go to lecture, and put in the hours for the projects, then you're going to love the class. Deb loves to teach and cares about her students.
Deb is a great professor!! Just attend classes and pay attention and you should do great. Her tests come straight from the notes she gives you. If she writes something on the board then it is definitely important!! I loved this class and was super bummed I couldn't get her for 112!!
She's an amazing teacher and truly interested in your success and helping you understand the core concepts of Biology.
She is extremely helpful and upbeat. She makes her lectures interesting and always welcome to questions and interruptions. Her tests are somewhat difficult but if you go to class and pay attention and read the text you will be fine.
such a great class for students that like science and a great choice for anyone who would need a lot of help in the class. deb has a big heart so I recommend her to anyone from any background in science.
I love Deb! She is a wonderful teacher, and really helps you out when you need it!
She is great and very helpfull!! She loves what she does and it is obvious through her teaching. She makes a difficult class much easier. Definatley take her if you can!!
She's a very nice person and it's nice that she wants to get to know all of her students. She's always there to help you out if you need it but I didn't like that she brought politics into a science class. However, a very nice teacher and always willing to help.
Very nice lady, though sometimes it's hard to tell how genuine she is. A little too political at times and it's no secret what side of the fence she's on. Has plenty of office hours and gives ample amounts of study material. Take advantage of the extra credit, not a lot of teachers offer it.
Great professor. I hated biology from high school but she makes the subject interesting and you actually learn. She uses lots of different techniques for teaching that are really effective. I would recommend her to anyone, bio major or not. There is little work outside of class, just go to class.
It is a hard class with a good teach :)
In all honesty I have no idea why you would not get an A in this class. Deb is not only a great teacher but a lenient grader and by far the best choice for any biology class you might be thinking about taking. If you want to learn a lot AND get an easy A take Bidwell!
SO SWEET, definitely take her. shes super helpful and just awesome. if you take good notes in class and study those you are set. its hard not to get an a or a b in either of her bio classes she teaches.
She is very sweet and helpful. Also, very good at explaining things. Very laid back, but excellent at staying on topic in class! I wish she taught math! lol
I don't know what these people are talking about. She is not an easy A class. You can study forever and not get an A on the test. She's nice yea but not an easy teacher. If you want to stress and some possible gray hairs than take her. If you want an easy A don't take her.
It's a good class to take, and you learn a lot but it is extremely hard to get an A on her tests. I studied for days for all of her tests and I barely got a B on them. She's extremely nice but if you want an easy A I wouldn't recommend this class. If you do take it--study hard and read the book because the book is VERY helpful.
Bidwell has a fantastic teaching style. She is very easy to understand and is always willing to meet with you to clear up anything. Her tests are relatively simple if you pay attention, take good notes and read the text. Overall, the class was great!
BEST PROFESSOR IN MY COLLEGE EXPERIENCE!! Her teaching style is awesome and she explains everything perfectly! I got 100 every test except for the first one. SI is EXTREMELY helpful!!
LOVED HER! I would take her again but she's going to Spain spring semester! Test are okay, not too bad. Shouldn't be majorly stressed in this class and she'll definitely help you out if you don't understand anything! TAKE HER!!! =]
Bidwell was a great teacher. I would definately take her again for 112. She is not boring in her lectures and the test questions come straight from lecture and the study guides she gives you. You need to go to class to learn the material but attendance isn't mandatory. I really enjoyed the class
Deb is probably the best professor in the world. I'm not kidding. If you have a chance TAKE HER. She is friendly, helpful, and the class is easy but i've learned more in that class than all my others combined. She is a fun person and this is an awesome class.
This class is not the easiest in the world if you are bad at studying. It is all lecture which benefits some students over others. Lots of grades and assignments so make sure your in class. The tests are pretty challenging unless you are willing to study hard. she says in the beginning to be preped to spend 6-8 hours a week on bio. its not a lie.
Im quite shocked by all the positive comments here. Deb is a good professor, but isnt one of my best professors. IF YOU ARE NOT A VISUAL LEARNER DO NOT TAKE HER. She uses a lot of diagrams that are difficult to understand. Attendance isnt mandatory but def go to class. She expects you to study a great deal outside class. She really loves to teach.
Deb is definitely my favorite college professor so far: she is extremely helpful, very nice, and makes class interesting! I never missed a class because of this. She makes things easy to understand and doesn't require too much work. If you like biology, you'll love Deb.
This course is quite difficult, but Professor Bidwell is a great teacher; I felt very prepared going into 112. Tests are hard, but not impossible if you take the time to study and complete all assignments. Attendance is not mandatory, but you will not do well if you miss lectures. I would highly recommend.
I graduated in May 08 and took her freshman year for 101 and 112. After my four years of college I can say that Deb is one of the best professors at Cofc! Helpful, friendly, and smart (plus its very possible to get a solid A if you're willing to work for it!)
Deb is the best professor for Bio 111. She easy to understand and well prepared for her lectures. Just take notes in class and you will do just fine. She is very helpful.
I've just started and I can already tell that Deb will be one of the best Bio instructors I've ever had.
Biology is a hard class. You can expect to take lots of notes off the board, slideshows, and what she is saying out loud. She is very upbeat and obviously enjoys the subject and teaching. She is always willing to help. There were 2 exams, 2 take home quizes, maybe 5 homework assignments, and 2 article reviews. I would definitely reccomend her.
This professor is an ideal Bio teacher. Test are all from lectures, so attendance is a must! Class is based on conceptualization rather than memorization, and she will tell you this! Very thought provocative; if you understand it, you will do well. Great person who is eager about teaching and helping you succeed. Didn't even use book.
The best thing about Deb, was that she made even hydrogen bonds cool. She was just so upbeat. If you're in the Honors class, and haven't had AP Bio, it is difficult, be prepared to study for her tests, but you can never claim to fail because of lack of help. Definitely one of the best teachers I've ever had.
Deb radiates with her love of Biology. Her lectures are easy to fallow and she makes everything so much more exciting than other professors. Attendance is part of the grade, but going to class is fun and thought provoking, so it's not a pain to go. I highly recommend taking her lecture.
let's just say to put it nicely? she is a "witch".. a miserable lady, who wants blames everyone else for HER misery. UGH! One of the worst ever!
She's an okay teacher. She presented material confusingly at times. She isn't very helpful during office hours. Her tests are pretty easy if you study for them. The final was easy.
her test are very hard and study guides take FOREVER to do, so be ready for tons of work in this class. She gives homework assignments which, also take forever but can definitely help with you grade. She is a nice lady but her class is hard. She is very understanding and is willing to give you extra help you just have to work hard and try. Take her
There is nothing negative to say about Deb. That woman changed my world every lecture. She is clear, organized, exciting and helpful. I wouldn't want to take any other professor for Biology. There is heavy studying outside of lecture, but that is expected! She provides flexible office hours outside of lecture, also!
Deb is the bomb!! Her passion is very evident for her love of biology and it makes the class extremely interesting and exciting. She always relates the "harder" material to real world examples and you can always remember them when studying for tests. If possible, take Deb!!
There is one word to describe Bidwell: awful. It's as if she was still a high school teacher. If you were incorrect about something she would make you feel awkward in front of the class. She only has two tests, covering mounds of information. Biology is hard, and she really doesn't make it any easier. Try not to take her.
Overall, Prof. Bidwell is a great teacher. She explains concepts clearly, is well-organized, and is very passionate about the subject. Her tests are (too) easy if you pay attention and read the book. My only other complaint is that she gives a lot of homework and written assignments that feel more like busy work than real learning opportunities.
Deb convinces her students that science is interesting through her love of science. I've never seen her not smiling. Tests easy and are right from her lecture, nothing extra from the book. It helps to read the book for clarifications though. Quizzes are take home, so you can compare answers.
there isnt anything negative that you can possibly say about Deb. she is a wonderful teacher and really cares about biology and her students. best teacher ive had yet!
Debs love for biology is infectious. She really cares about the subject and is willing to help those who need it.
She is a good teacher, pay attention in class do the homework take notes and you will pass the class.
Great Professor. I would definitely recommend taking her.
She is great. I recommend that anyone interested in taking biology. She gives review guides for every test and they are easy if you study. An A is super attainable.
really nice and chill, but not very clear most of the time and content is really in depth.
Deb was very nice and really seemed to love what she teaches. The content of the class was really in-depth and you really had to study to do well. Overall, if you have to take this class Deb is definitely the best teacher to take it from.
Excellent professor. She really enjoys her job which makes it that much more enjoyable for the person learning. She will answer your questions and help you to any extent. Go to SI offered for this class! It helps a lot with the more difficult topics, and go to her office hours! Other than that, just listen to lectures. I didn't use my book once!
She is such a good professor. I definitely recommend her. She is an eager professor who enjoys teaching and wants you to understand. She is very intelligent so sometimes she can go a little over your head, but she tries to explain it on a lower level.
I love Deb!!! She really cares about her students, and loves what she does. She can be a bit crazy bouncing all over the class but it's not in a bad way. The material for the class is difficult but she did a good job of explaining it to us! She grades fairly and tests are mc and short answer. Take her!!!
Super nice lady but the class was really hard. Only 2 tests and they are extremely detailed and long and you do not have enough time to finish them. She acted like it would be a piece of cake but it was the hardest class I've had so far at CofC and this is my third year.
Take this class at your own risk. Deb is very kind and fun, but not very helpful if you need assistance. Only 2 tests the entire semester, so be prepared to read 200-300 pages out of the massive textbook per test. Final is cumulative.
THANK GOD for the textbook. Her powerpoints are SO brief and her tests are SO complex. Only 2 tests with TONS of info. She acts really nice in class but when you need help, she won't give it to you. 10 chapters material on each. I DO NOT RECOMMEND HER. She'll say "Thank about it logically" like Bio is Easy. One of my least fav professors at CofC.
She's a nice person, but she flies through tough material with brief powerpoints. If you don't already have a good grasp of biology, you're sunk.
I was really looking forward to 112 after 111, but Bidwell's teaching wasn't for me, or many of my classmates. You FLY through VERY complicated material and study for 10 chapters on 1 test. Retaining information is impossible. There's not enough time in 50 min to complete her test. I'll prob get a B, because I dedicated my LIFE to it. & shes mean.
A sweet lady who loves what she teaches. Just not the best at teaching it. For some unknown reason, she only gave 2 tests the entire semester so if you did semi-poorly on one of them, your chances of an A are slim. It was imperative to read the book to do well since her PowerPoints were all dumb pictures.
Bidwell is very enthusiastic about what she does and wants everyone to succeed. The course is extremely difficult because of the tremendous amount of information. It's pretty much a teach yourself class. 4 quizzes, 2 tests, and a final.
Nicest person...terrible teacher though. Lectures are hard to follow due to useless power points and only 2 test per semester so each test covers about 10 chapters. She told us that the final was going to be general key concepts but it was very similar to the high detail level on the tests. DO NOT RECOMMEND
Deb is really passionate about Bio..However when it comes to teaching the material..it is exactly portrayed that way. This class is going to challenge you. Tests are all application and are tricky. There are only 2 tests so that is pretty much your grade. If you are a Bio major and want to be challenged, then take Deb otherwise you will struggle
AVOID this professor. She uses problem-based learning (i.e you teach yourself everything). Covered tons of material in short period. Most of her power points were only pictures without good explanations. There were only 2 exams and one cumulative final, which were VERY poorly worded. It was impossible to complete the exams in the given time frame.
Professor Bidwell is great! Her class requires you to study and apply yourself, but you will learn so much. Her knowledge in biology is astounding, and it was truly a treat to be in her class. I highly recommend taking her course.
She's great! She can be a little ADD at times, but you'll learn a lot!! Make sure to go to class and write down everything she says and writes. She does post her power points but don't rely solely on them. If you are considering any sort of Bio major she also great to talk to about that!
Great teacher! Yes, the material is difficult, but if you're looking for an easy A then this isn't the class for you anyway. Attendance not mandatory, but if you miss a class then you miss all of the extra information that isn't on the powerpoint. Quizzes are take-home, and tests are challenging but definitely doable if you follow the study guides.
Deb is the hands-down the nicest professor in the Biology department. If you can, take her class. She will go over material a number of times in class until everyone understands it, regardless of how long it takes, and posts the SI, CSL, and office hours on her board at the start of every class. Seriously, Bidwell is the best.
She is very helpful and really reviews all the information to make sure you really understand it. SI sessions and online office hours are extremely helpful for more reviewing on difficult concepts. Gives you a really good study guide before every test so it's super easy to be prepared and do well!
Deb is a great bio professor! She loves what she teaches, & she is more than willing to help if you don't understand something. The tests are hard, I couldn't pass one even with studying for hours, & there is a lot of necessary info in the text, so I recommend reading it! Overall, I'd take Deb if I were you.
I loved Deb! She is so passionate about Biology and will go out of her way to help her students understand the difficult material. Quizzes are take-home, tests can be tricky but are very manageable with the study guides she provides. I definitely recommend taking her class
Deb is such a sweet lady, she is passionate about biology and she's always very helpful! Her tests are a bit difficult, but they make sure you know the main idea. There is critical thinking involved, but the class itself was awesome.
Deb is such an enthusiastic professor! She is willing to help with any kinds of questions you have. However, during her lectures, she skips around a lot and can sometimes be difficult to follow. Just read your textbook and you'll be good to go! Also, do NOT hesitate to ask questions. She will seriously be so happy to answer anything you ask her!
I LOVE DEB. Best teacher I have had in a long time. The tests are hard but not any harder than you would expect for a biology class. She is so helpful and understanding. She is a genuinely nice person and she wants you to do well. I didn't go to SI but people say that it is helpful for studying. The study guides are lengthy but very complete
Deb cannot convey information to students. She presents her students with unorganized power points that have sporadic information. I often get confused and ask myself, “How did we just get from that to this?!” Her tests are also quite difficult. If you AP’ed out of this class… DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME/GPA. Trust me.
Debra rants about topics during lecture that are not even included on the tests. She overloads us on general information… then asks super precise, detailed questions on the tests. I wouldn't take her again.
She always kept a smile on her face and had a great attitude. She was helpful if you could ever catch her- she's just as busy as the students, which is definitely a downfall. It was frustrating at times when she couldn't find time to help me. She really has a passion for what she does. Attendance is mandatory, & you don't necessarily need the book.
Attendance is mandatory, but she makes class really interesting. The book isn't necessary to buy, unless you want to read. The exams really come straight from notes and power points. Gives study guides for the exams. There are 3 exams and then a final, 5 quizzes, and a library worksheet that is an easy A. Gives extra credit on all exams!!
Very good professor, somewhat sporadic at times. Definitely the easier professor out of the department. Keeps class interesting! Just a tip: the best way to go about taking notes would be to print off her power points (she posts them all online) and take notes on the slides themselves. Such a better way for organization and clarity of your notes.
LOVE DEB!!!! she is always willing to help and her test are based off of lecture!! very passionate and so easy to talk to!!! one of the best professors ive ever had and one of the nicest!!! Highly recommend taking her class! you will learn a ton!!!
DEB ROCKS! She is so sweet and wants everyone to do well. VERY willing to help you if you need extra help. Not an easy class, you need to put work in. Definitely do the study guides prior to the tests. Going to class helps but not absolutely necessary. Hard to get an A in her class but she also makes it hard to do badly. TAKE HER CLASS! BEST BIO
Always made sure material was clear and understood. Takes time to explain tough concepts that are usually neglected by other professors. LOVED being in her class. Would take again in a heartbeat.
She's a decent lady but only giving 2 exams throughout the semester each covering 10-11 chapters is completely ridiculous.
So much reading. A lot of material to cover. Only 2 tests and a final. There are online quizzes and discussions to do online. Not a quick grader. It took her til the end of the semester to grade your discussions.
Best bio professor. She is super helpful and extremely understanding. She gives great lectures and always posts the powerpoints online. I skipped class pretty often as I always slept through it, but she's one of the few professors I actually would be disappointed when I missed class. No homework except online quizzes and her tests are reasonable.
She is very enthusiastic about her field, which makes it easier to learn. Tests are hard but she puts numerous guides on Oaks to help with study tactics and test taking skills. Very fun to learn from!
She is so excited about every lecture she gives. Has tons of office ours and loves to help out. I didn't understand bio AT ALL in high school and she inspired me to make bio my major. So cute and funny and never makes you come on makeup days.
She's extremely helpful and makes biology concepts easier to understand. Bidwell is very open and encourages students to participate and ask questions. Tests can be tough, but it's just a very heavy content class. Definitely take her class!
Deb is awesome! If you don't understand something just send her an email & she'll setup a time that works for you. The class is challenging and if you really want to do well then you HAVE to study. Try to attend SI and office hours when you can. There are quizzes maybe 6-7, discussion post w/peer replies maybe 3 (grade booster). She makes Bio fun!
I don't get what all the fuss is about (when it comes to her teaching, as she is a pleasant person). - Her lectures are very generic while tests are specific, so you need to read and teach yourself if you want to do well. - Extremely slow grader. - We spent less than a day on human reproduction, but it was a third of the cumulative final.
Professor Bidwell is a great teacher. She cares for her students and what she is teaching. She has zeal for the subject and motivates her students to do the best they can. Overall my favorite professor so far.
Deb was a great professor! Class was super easy. There were four regular exams, a cumulative final, discussion posts, and online quizzes. You can really tell that she enjoys biology through her lectures and the different activities she had us do in class. The final was kind of hard though because the study guide was nothing like the test.
one of the best biology professors ive ever had! take her class!
Dr. Bidwell is such a good teacher. Her class was really interesting and her tests were not that bad.
She is so excited to be in the classroom and is so invested in the class. The exams are very hard but she will do anything she can to help you prepare or explain what you're doing wrong. If you can't make it to her office hours, she will make time to see you. All of her quizzes are open book/note online.
I loved Bidwell! She is an amazing teacher and will answer absolutely any questions you have. She is super into biology and loves teaching which makes you not hate going to class. Three test, 5 short answer (she usually tells you what they will be before hand), the rest are multiple choice, and extra credit (1 is which version of the exam you have)
I absolutely love Professor Bidwell. She makes her lectures interesting and has a genuine love for science. If you do not do well on the tests, she gives you opportunities to boost your grade with online quizzes and easy discussion posts. Beware, her test questions can be tricky! I definitely recommend taking her class if you have the chance!
I LOVE HER!! I was so nervous to come into college and take a bio lecture w a huge class, but she makes time for each and every person, making it so easy to do well!! Gives 10 quizzes, drops the lowest grade. 3 exams, one final thats cumulative. No homework but do assigned reading-it helps a lot. TAKE HER IF YOU CAN!!!!
I was SO nervous about taking upper level bio, but I heard Bidwell was the best so I decided to take her. I would 100% recommend taking her and I'm taking her again for 112! Lecture is heavy (but it's bio) but she makes material easy to understand. She writes down the important stuff on the board and draws pictures to make learning easier.
I absolutely ADORE Prof. Bidwell. Doesn't take attendance and she posts lectures online, but go to class - she writes/draws on the board a lot. So incredibly sweet and understanding. Email her whenever - she'll go out of her way to help. 3 tests and a final (w studyguides), weekly quizzes, and 3 discussions. Rent or buy a used book - never used it
For a 112 class, she required us to know way too much than needed. I felt like I was in a Bio 300 level class. Should spread the material out into 4 tests not three massive ones w/t SGs. Good person and has a passion for Bio but if you're not ready to work super hard for an A don't take. Used the book for the entire year. 3 discussions, 8 quizzes.
Bidwell was awesome! She is also my major advisor and was always there for me whenever I needed help! She does not take attendance, but I would def go to class because she writes on the board and summarizes the notes a lot. Her tests are difficult, and the study guides are around 7 pages in paragraph form long, but her tests are only around 20 q's.
BIO112 is not the most interesting class, and I do not see Bidwell as a great professor, but I do see her more as a caring and loving person. She will always be ready and eager to help, but her tests are difficult, and around 20 questions, while her study guides are around 12 pages long. Class is hard, but just read & study and you will do fine.
Prof. Bidwell is probably the best professor I have had in college. She goes out of her way to help you when you need it. She also is very understanding that students have personal issues that come up as well as other classes and will work with you to be successful. Just care about the class and you'll be fine. She also gives plenty of extra credit
The class was hard but she's one of the best professors for bio. Attendance isn't mandatory but make sure you to go to class so you'll do well on the quizzes and tests. There were eight online quizzes with the lowest one dropped, three big unit tests, three discussions, and one final. I wish she broke up the tests into smaller units though.
Best professor I've ever had. She actually cares for her students, how well they do, and even their well-being. She loves what she teaches and offers extra credit. Attendance not mandatory, barely any homework, basically all grades are based off the 4 exams. The exams are on the more difficult side, so study the class notes and you'll be fine.
Deb is amazing! She truly cares for her students success and is very passionate in the subject of biology. The exams are very lecture heavy, so plan on always going to class. When she gets going on a certain topic, she will talk more quickly. However, ask her a question and shell be more than happy to answer
Best professor I've ever had. She explains the material very well, and her tests are to the point. Take her, you won't regret it.
"Deb" is the most amazing prof you'll ever have. She is so passionate about biology, she just wants everyone to understand the course and get an awesome grade. She drops the lowest quiz grade and there's almost never any homework. She's a really easy grader and her tests aren't bad at all
I took Bidwell last semester and I wish I could explain how amazing of a teacher she is. She's so kind and so passionate about biology. She also is extremely willing to help if you reach out to her. I love her with my entire heart and truthfully wish she would adopt me.
You wont find an easy BIOL111 teacher at this school period. But, I have her this semester for 111 and taking her again next semester. Shes the sweetest human youll ever meet and is an easy grader. Tests are on the harder side, but its an upper level class, so thats expected. She genuinely cares about everyone and goes out of her way to help!
Dr. Bidwell is the best professor I've had thus far, of any class, ever. She is so passionate about biology and gets to know students personally if you reach out to her. She gives quite a few grades, (ie weekly quizzes, exams, final, homework and extra credit) to help students excel in her class. Best professor ever. I wish I could take her again.
Why does she not have a perfect 5.0 rating? Seriously? She deserves a 5.0, she is probably the best professor I have ever taken. Deb forever.
Bidwell is an amazing professor! She really loves the subject and wants you to do well. Her tests can be very intense but she gives you the materials you need to succeed as long as you apply yourself. I definitely wouldn't skip class, she puts very few of her notes on the powerpoints.
Deb is an amazing woman. Her passion for the subject makes class so interesting. You can really tell how much she loves biology. She is very caring and one of the nicest professors I've had. However, her notes are very scattered. I learned most from reading the textbook, because her lectures are very unorganized and out of order.
Three exams, two papers, a quiz every Sunday (lowest one drops), & final. Deb is a fair grader & her lectures are very informative. You do need to study the book outside of class and outline the chapters for a deeper grasp of the material, but her lectures are very thorough. If you can take her for 112 - do it! You can get an A if you put in work!
Wonderful professor and truly cares for each student. She makes sure you understand the material in class and wants you to succeed in her class. It is a lot of material that is difficult, but she explains it perfectly.
Professor Bidwell is awesome and always excited about biology. She uses real life examples in nearly every lecture and cares for her students. The material is hard but if you study the concepts outside of class you'll pass. Best professor I've had in college so far!
Deb is such a nice, caring lady! Her lectures are easy to follow and she does well on elaborating on them. Her tests are pretty hard, but if you study you'll be fine. I would definitely take her again for bio 112 but her class filled up :(
Awesome professor! She cares a lot about her students, and is willing to help you succeed. Her tests make you think, but they are not too bad if you study. What she teaches in lecture is on the tests; you dont have to read the textbook too much.
Dr Bidwell is really passionate about biology. She wants all her students to do well in not just her class, but others. She has flexible office hours. She willing to help you on anything you have questions on. She is really caring. All her power points are on line, but you need to be class to get notes. You need to read the textbook.
Very nice and sweet lady, but her tests are super hard. In order to make a B on a test, you HAVE to study for an entire week, at least 4 hours a day. You need to know the material like the back of your hand because of how precise she words the tests. She hardly ever responds to emails. You can get by without using the text book.
I took Deb for BIO111 and specifically chose her for 112. The content can be difficult, but with studying you can master it before a test. She is very friendly and explains things very well. Weekly online quizzes and an exam every few weeks is pretty much all that is graded. I literally love her.
she's super sweet and gives great lectures. tests are kinda difficult but thats usual for every science class. shes literally Dora the Explorer but an adult.
She is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. Very passionate about the topic and her joy is contagious. Tests are kind of hard, but going to her office hours helps a lot. If you don't understand something she will take the time to help you in her office and genuinely cares about her students. She's a joy to have as a professor.
Really accessible out of class and truly genuine with her students. The tests have a LOT of information on them so be prepared to know your stuff and study. Also go to class and take notes.
Go to class, or don't, I'm pretty sure I googled half of the stuff and used crash course and SI to make up for all the times I skipped and still managed a B+, she's such a sweet person and overall a pretty good teacher. She's known as the "good one" in regards to biology professors.
The most caring human ever! She will kick your butt but in the most caring way possible. I had a C during midterms and I wanted to drop, but she told me I shouldn't. She's super motivating and is really helpful in and outside of class. 3 tests that are 50%, 1 final that's 20% and a quiz each week (one dropped) that are 30% of your overall grade.
She is such a sweet person and made biology so easy to understand. She goes through them at such a good pace and gives time for people to write. Her office hours help a lot if you are confused about anything. Definitely take her as a professor!
Such a sweet person and professor! All classes are lectures. Weekly online quizzes, I think they help. Tests are difficult. Gives suggested homework that isn't required. I recommend reading the book and taking notes.
I cannot say enough good things. Lectures are interesting and make so much sense. Willing to help students and super caring. Grade based on weekly quizzes and 4 test. Go to class and study and the tests are easy, but skip and don't study: not going to end well. I wish Deb taught every class. TAKE HER CLASS. I PROMISE YOU WILL LOVE HER!!!!
TAKE DEB IF YOU CAN!! Best professor ever. She is so sweet and her class is not that difficult. The only thing that makes the class hard is the actual material. All the quizzes are open note and so is the final. She works with you and really wants you succeed. (Also, I didn't use my textbook really at all. Look for a free PDF if you can!)
I love Deb so much, never attended the SI meetings, but always did great on her tests. If you don't understand she will gladly explain it again. Open note quizzes (unlimited tries, takes the highest grade) and open note tests. 100% recommend.
Deb is by far the best teacher I've had. She is the reason I became a bio major. Seriously so caring and smart and kind, and she gives extra credit. All tests are multiple choice and she takes the time to answer all questions in class. Deb is the best!
Deb is one of the best teachers ive ever had, she is so enthusiastic and passionate about what she teaches which makes the class engaging and doesnt bore you to death. I wont say its an easy A because you have to study because it is a lot of material. But she truly cares about her students and wants them to succeed.
very nice and easy to reach out to
Professor Bidwell is hands down my favorite professor! I took her for Bio 111 and 112. She tells some of the best stories, gives two quizzes a week with unlimited attempts (so you can actually do good :), cares about you, and prepares each and every student for the exams. If you take notes and pay attention you'll do great! 10/10 would recommend
Class is based on group projects and participation. If you dont come to class and work on the assignments, you wont make the grade. The projects have a lot of components but she grades fairly and offers extra credit. Dont hesitate to email her, she is happy to help.
Fire teacher definitely recommend
Mrs. Bidwell is such an amazing professor. She makes he lecture very entertaining. Most of the work outside of her lectures are optional and she gives so many opurtunities for better course material udertanding. All of her quizzes (once a week) can be taken an endless amount of times and are a great grade booster. Overall best professor!
Dr. Bidwell was amazing. You had almost a week to take each quiz and you could take each one as many times as you wanted and only the highest grade was counted, so it's super easy to get 100s on all of them. Tests were a little tough at times, but she included a lot of extra credit so you can easily make up any deficit.
I loved Professor Bidwell, I will say her lectures are heavy but she is willing to answer any questions you may have. You have quizzes weekly and 3 exams plus your final exam. The work load is easy, pay attention to the quizzes and the recommend homework she gives it will really help you understand the content and help you on exams
She is so sweet and caring but her teaching style is slightly abstract so if you struggle with bio I honestly would take the other 111 professor. Otherwise, she's very sweet and helpful. quite a few open note quizzes and 4 (difficult) exams.
She is very lovely, but her teaching style needs to be updated. She is very passionate about biology, but I wouldn't suggest her if you struggle with biology in general. She teaches like you already know everything that she is talking about. Her notes are very sparse, and beware of the tests; they are extremely difficult.
Deb is one of the most caring humans I've ever met, but her teaching style needs some updates. Her quizzes are AWESOME and you can take them as many times as you need (great study tool), however, her tests are really difficult and I pride myself in being a great student. I highly recommend going to her office hours if you do take her.
Deb is so awesome! I took her for FYE Biomimicry and it was very easy and fun. The class final project is a group presentation which she grades lightly on and gives a ton of time ahead and class time to work on. Her class was a breeze and I definitely recommend taking her class if you're interested in Biomimicry.
One of my all time favorites! She is so sweet and so passionate about what she is teaching. Only one online quiz a week with unlimited attempts, no homework. Exams are kind of long but not bad, final was online open book open note. She is EXTREMELY accommodating to any situation, and genuinely wants you to succeed. Definitely take her if you can!!
Ms. Bidwell is such a sweet lady but her teaching style is just not right for me personally. She does a bit of EC but no exam fixes- I have to teach myself most of the material because her lectures go back and forth a lot with material (not straightforward), but it is still important to not miss lectures! She puts a LOT of content in them
Bidwell is a very nice person and very understanding. Her lectures do not make sense. They are full of diagrams that do not make sense unless you teach them to yourself. Her quizzes are open note and have unlimited retakes which is very beneficial. No matter how long or hard you study you probably will still do badly as her tests don't make sense.
Great human being who wants to see her students exceed, both in her class and in life. Her class is taught traditionally and is test heavy, which is a definite challenge for some people. But, if you put your head down and work hard, I promise this course will end up being rewarding for you.
Wouldn't take this class with deb again. Genuinely such a nice person that cares deeply and wants to see all of her students succeed, but TERRIBLE lectures. All over the place and unorganized. I had better luck not going to class and studying straight from the textbook. Wanted to love her but couldn't.
Professor Bidwell is compassionate and cares about her students. Her exams can be a little tricky, but if you pay attention in class and take in-depth notes, you should be fine. The quizzes usually have similar, if not the exact same, questions that will be on the test, so I highly recommend using them to study. Overall it's not a difficult class.
Professor Bidwell is passionate and accommodating, but her teaching style takes some adjusting. The quizzes are great for studying, but the exams can be challenging. unstuck ai is a helpful study tool alongside the textbook.
Took her for BIOL 415 Biomimicry, interesting class. She is super nice and engages with everyone. Work can be tedious but its worth it for a 400 level bio/env class that is not hard compared to the others. Not very bio heavy, more overall application/sustainability focused.
Professor Bidwell is a true gem of a professor. Her lectures are genuinely so engaging, and she covers topics in an intuitive order that "tells the story" of the topics and makes it so easy to understand how they are connected. Extra credit, weekly quizzes that are open-note and open all week, and exams are reflective of course content.Great class.
Just save yourself. honestly, it's a big waste of time sitting in a 100-200-person lecture and talking off slides for an hour. She goes back and forth from earlier lessons to later and it gets all mixed up and can never take good notes. She has a quiz 2 times a week online, then at least 4 in-person scantron tests, the lowest she drops.
Great professor! We were quizzed each week with unlimited attempts, which really helped me understand the information before the test. Tests were all multiple choice with some extra credit at the end. You need to attend lectures because she writes things down that aren't in the slides. Go to office hours if you need help.
I love Bidwell. I had her for BIOL 111 and 112 and got a stellar grade in both. She really loves what she teaches and is so, so sweet. You will definitely need to study (just because its Biology), but if you study and pay attention you will do great.
This professor almost seems like she lacks understanding in the concepts she teaches her students. Slideshows only contain images, no words. Tests are difficult, I would recommend reading the textbook for better understanding. Classes are very note heavy for 90 minutes, not interactive at all.
Bidwell is a super sweet person, and I wanted to like her, but I just couldn't. Her notes are all over the place and hard to follow and understand. You're better off just reading the textbook and taking notes from it. The weekly quizzes are good grade boosters; you can take them as many times as you want, so make sure to do them!
Bidwell is the most caring professor ever. She truly just wants you to succeed and is always there if you need extra help with the class or with anything else. The class is just lectures until the exam, but she is very intentional about what she teaches and what she puts on the exams. I truly loved her and her class!! Please take her she's awesome.
Prof. Bidwell was one of my favorite professors this semester. Very accessible outside of class and I really recommend going to office hours. Unlimited tries on quizzes and one extra credit quiz at the end. Very exam heavy (40% for three highest and 20% for final). Study outside of class and pray you grasp photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
