Good teacher, tough marker. Makes everything crystal clear on what is expected in her course, but needs to losen up a little. you take her class, you will learn lots but won't get a good mark

I've never had such a low mark in English. She's clear about what she wants, has HUGE emphasis on format. It seems ideas and writing is secondary. Answers her emails which is good. She seems pretty irritated all the time.

VERY tough, but lets you know this, so it's fair (still hurts though). Very comprehensive and helpful. Know MLA, as she is merciless. You do actually learn in this class (after Blacklock English is easy), but BEWARE! NO EASY A's HERE! HERE BE DRAGONS!

she was always clear about what she expected on tests and assignments, and would accept any interpretation that could be supported with textual evidence. a tough marker, but fair and willing to give extra explanation if necessary.

yeah she's tough. she made me work harder and i think i'm a better student for it. if you want to try cruising through langara learning nothing, find another teacher. if you want to learn something and build some student discipline, then she's the right teacher for you. yeah she's tough. .. so what?

very fair and knowlegable...doesnt like prima donna immature high schoolish students (but who does). if you are respectful to her she will respectful back...gets a bad rep from lazy students who would rather talk with friends then study and listen..great teacher if you are there to learn not to socialize

Deborah was clear and approachable in her instruction and really knew her stuff. She was willing to hear differing ideas/opinions on analysis. Good sense of humour. I learned a lot about literary analysis and academic writing from her. I doubt she'll coddle anyone, but if you're prepared to work hard, she's a great teacher.

Great teacher if you're willing to do the work, willing to put in the time to help out, not sure why she has the low rating around here, must be too many lazy students

Although she's not good at teaching grammar, but seriously, tests are not that hard....lots of take home work, not much in class exams,which is great. Just work hard,do not expect teacher to give you what u don't deserve. If you just want a grade, blame the teacher,if you want to learn,blame yourselves.

Although we only had her for half a semester due to our other teacher being ill, I finded her quite a good teacher. Alot ppl that rant here are idiotic failures. If you study well and do what she tells you, Any english you take after her will be easy, not to mention you'll actually retain what taught after the final exams!

The stories she chose were long and often carry difficult concepts to understand. BUT, she explains it in detail and make SURE you are there during class to remember what she had said because her tests will reflect that. Don't be discourage and think that she is a difficult teacher. She is not. Complete all necessary assignments and LISTEN.

I got a B in the class only because I was assigned to a bunch of monkeys. My group totally dragged me down for the final project. The portfolio is really easy to do, you just have to make sure it's in perfect form. Deborah can help if you see her during her office hours. Tests are hard. Read the chapter ahead of time!

Ughh, TOUGH MARKER! Takes of marks for the silliest things. It is such an easy course, yet I was doing horrible. VERY helpful when you visit her office but class seems pointless. If you're lazy and want to do well, avoid this teacher. That was my problem -- the class was so easy i barely went, and as a result, I had to drop.

She's really not that bad. Not the greatest teacher I've ever had, but far from the worst. She is a little disorganized, and classes can be kind of slow. But I thought she made her expectations for essays/exams pretty clear and found her to be a fairly easy marker.

I found Deborah to be very thorough, helpful, flexible, and understanding. She will give tons of advice/feedback on term papers. She can be a little unorganized at times, but it's not too big of a deal. She posts lots of details on the blackboard so it's easy to stay caught up if you miss. Very fair marker. I would definitely take her class again.

Knows what she wants, just listen and you have to do a lot of reading at home and figure out the guidelines for summaries and other major assignments she gives. She doesn't really go over the guidelines of what she wants before she gives you an assignment.. you are warned, overall she is not a bad teacher

I've had her for both 1118 and 2228. I found she was a much easier marker for 2228 than 1118. Although sometimes her due dates for assignments aren't clear, she gives out precise instructions and even written examples of how major written assignments are to be done. Show up to class, pay attention somewhat and you'll get a good grade, that simple

Actually show up to class and listen to her verbal instructions and youll get an A. Deborah is ALWAYS willing to answer questions and will ALWAYS accept drafts of assignements in advance & will tell you exactly what you need to do to get an A. The course itself is odd and revolves alot around formatting, but Deb is great.

Deborah wants to see everyone succeed. She is always available for feedback and will tell you exactly how to fix your draft to make it an A. She is very kind and incredibly patient. This is an easy course. If you struggled with it, that's not on her. Anything not understood the first time, she explained as many times as needed and gave extensions.

Not the most exciting lectures, but Deborah knows what she's doing. As long as you read the materials and pay attention in class you'll be fine.

Like any English course, you really have to show up and pay attention to class. This class can get a little boring at times, but Deborah gives you everything you need to do well. We had one paper, a midterm, and 5 one-page journals. The reading were short works at the beginning, and 4 (not long) plays/novels in the second half of the semester.

Deborah is really nice and eager to help. Pay attention in class and you'll be fine.

Excellent Eng prof! She selects material that is engaging & eyeopening. Her assignments are interesting & she lays out the criteria very clearly. Also allows students to submit assignments prior to the deadline for feedback. Truly wants you to do well. She is not one to hand out high marks unless you deserve them. Do the work & you'll be fine.

She's rlly sweet and willing to help. I'm not the best at english but I worked hard and always went to her for help. You can submit your assignment multiple times for feedback before the due date. There are tests on the content of what we read which is a good thing because its easier to do well since you just gotta read the stuff

Some people will find her lectures dry, but I enjoyed them. Assigned readings were interesting, and her tests and quizzes were very easy. Pretty lenient grader, in my experience. Follow her grading criteria for each assignment and send her copies of your rough drafts before submitting, and you will find it easy to achieve a high grade.
