The MOST inspiring, and sweetest teacher in THIS SCHOOL!
Very nice and she teaches....but don't be late for her class
No Comments
very nice women, maybe the best techer in the school, dont hesitate to take ..
nice and caring, but class avg wasnt too high?
Very helpful and nice...but she is quite hard on marking
grate teacher! really helped me to improv.
she was fair in all her marking. she is one of the best english teachers i had at kwantlen
Learned nothing...nice woman but just not constructive feedback and class went on and on and on.
very easy marker, nice lady, but more suited to teach elementary school.
THE BEST!!
she's the best...that's all!!
the coarse is zzZZZZzzz.. but her kindness makes you want to stay just cause kwantlan has such **** english proffs.
She is the most horrible instructor in Kwantlen, espicially to those ESL students. She is very enthusiastic at pursuading ESL students to drop at the beginning of the class.Even though they insist on taking the class, their mind will be tortured.
she bends over backwards to help students, ESPECIALLY ESL students
No Comments
Deborah is such a sweet lady and as long as you go to class and engage in class discussions you'll learn what you need.
Treats everyone like they are mentally ****ed. Fairly easy marker if you give her what she wants.
a really nice, and helpful teacher. definetly take her if you can!!
Worst teacher i ever had. Always depress the students and ****.
even there's only one english course left, don't take her!!! she fails students without thinking about his/her situation!! she fails students who she does not like, and gives him/her 49% to just let herself happy!!!!
Really helpful and easy. She never fails people who really try!!
NO commet
I dont know what everyone's deal is. She's really nice, let's you redo assignments for a better mark, and teaches cool stuff rather than that 18th century literature crap. I would love to take her again even though my major isn't english.
super nice, and always available to help, highly reccommended!
Debroah is a great teacher, although she is very anal when it comes to her marking.
most people in Kwantlen are probably too stupid and in-bred to understand her nuanced humor and ironic posturing, but if you have any ceberal activity at all, you will find Deb to be a very provocative and philosophic teacher -- and a hottie.
Deborah takes a lot of the pain out of english. She has great themes like science fiction or murder mystery.
Class is ok. As long as u go to class, u'll be fine. A bit of a hard marker, but very nice helpful... wouldn't fail u if u try hard.
HAHAHAHA!!! I love the guy who wrote "No Commet" HAHAHAHA!!! No wonder you didn't do well! You can't even spell!!
I think she is a great teacher, much better then all the other ignorent english teachers at kwantlen.
she's an average instructor. Pays too much emphasis on essay format regardless of ideas or punctuation. But i guess that's how english is.. it stinks!!
She is nice but not helpful. What you got will out of your "expectation." She is also biased, and a kind of ****. International students don't take hers. If you did bad at the beginning, don't expect a better mark in the end.
hate english
Not a good teacher. Marks very hard.
I SUCK at english...she gave me an A-. We did Science fiction, how cool is that! She marks more on your ideas than grammer and punctuation. I highly, highly recommend. Much better than other english profs at Kwantlen.
She seems nice but marks hard and doesn't give the best comments. She's anal about the rules for essays and gives out easy assignments to test your skills then gives hard ones later in the year.
She doesnt take interest in teaching and doesnt provide constructive criticism when marking! Even though we all visited her in her office to go over our papers I still left with no clue as to what I should REALLY change! Dont take her if u have a choice! Plus shes a strict marker!
You people obviously deserve the marks you got; your grammar and such is disasterous. Blenkhorn is a great teacher, and very accomodating to your needs. Take her class, you won;t regret it.
She is a VERY strict marker and always cheerful. But doesn't provide you with any helpful input in assignments that she has marked.
I do agree with past comments about her strict marking, but since she *does* hand out a sheet with her expectations, it's your own fault if you don't read/follow it. Quite friendly and good office hours. I recommend her if you like English, but if you're looking for an easy "A" then look elsewhere.
awesome prof. probably the best eng prof in kwantlen. tough marker, but always clear and positive feedback. classes are well constructed and it's to see she puts a lot of effort into making english enjoyable. however do not assume the course is easy.
Hard marker, but a good teacher. There are about 3 in-class essays and one final take-home essay. Durring the latter part of the course, we watched "The Big One," a Michael Moore film. I don't like his films, but it was good to discuss. There's one presentation in groups of 3 or 4 for bonus marks.
nice teacher
Used to love English before I took a course with her. Had her favourites in class, ignored the others that needed help. Didn't help me at all when I asked and then told me my paper wasn't good enough. Doesn't know how to teach! Why is she even still teaching?
Deborah is a great teacher. She has great office hours, and makes special appointments to fit your needs. She answers your e-mails right away, and is always willing to help. She gives a lot of comments when marking your essay, and doesn't assign much work-only a reading or two. There are however a lot of writing assignments. She is very dedicated
Deborah is a good english teacher and I would recommend taking her class. She can be a tough marker, but if you follow her instructions and ask questions you should do fairly well.
she is not a bad teacher...i would recomend her because she is good person. she is avaliable for help and helps you if u need it greatly. Overall...not bad
very structured, extremely clear. tells u exactly what she wants. I did all my assignments last minute and received a B+. If you try hard+don't use passive voice there is NOreason u can't get an A. I found the topics difficult however I did well Leave yourself time to edit your work+follow guidelines + u will have no problems. No complaints here.
Very helpful, eay going teacher
Great Teacher
Nice, bubbly, easygoing personality. One of the easier English teachers I've had, but I didn't learn much. She gives out structured guidelines for pretty much everything, so follow her guidelines, don't use passive, and you'll do fine.
Took online class, very structured, not too much work but it is best to do the essays in advance if you want to be able to get an A. Don't use passive or diction errors and you'll do great. Took 1100 with her online as well, I have NO complaints and from what I have heard of many of the other profs, she is most likely the best. Great job Deborah!!!
She is a good teacher, teaches clearly, but a bit of a hard marker.
I took her online class. She's super-nice, VERY helpful and understanding and her assignments are not difficult at all...just a little time consuming.
Overtly picky on grammar and diction with an almost pathological obsession with style and format. Hostile to ESL students and unclear about assignment instructions. If you have a liberal view on language and want to actually learn things beyond how to avoid certain words and *gasp* passive voice, DO NOT TAKE HER!
She is really picky on format, you can lose a lot of marks if not formatted to her liking but if you can master the format style the class is an easy pass. Deborah isnt always clear but if you email her to clarify she always reponds, but not always right away.
She is really nice and helpful when it comes to answering your questions. Quite strict in following grammar and formatting rules, but expected in a higher level english class. She made class interesting as she has many components to accomodate everyone such as poetry, shakespeare, essays, and short stories. I would take her again!
If you're taking online English, this is the teacher you want. She is extremely fair and will always help you out with any questions/extensions that you may need (within reason). She does everything in her power to help you succeed and the rest is up to you. If you're trying to make a decision... stop! You've found the one. REGISTER WITH DEB!
Don't take Deborah to learn English, she does not teach well. Only, take Deborah if english is your strong subject... then you will pass for sure.
Online class. She was very helpful whenever I had a question. Homework was very straight forward, nothing out of the blue, laid out since the beginning. Very nice teacher, seems to enjoy her work, makes English tolerable even though I hate it. Book heavy course, many essays and whatnot, but its Engl, wtf do you expect? Would suggest taking
Deborah was a very friendly prof. I work full time and had to make arrangements with her, she was very friendly and accommodating about it. The online course went smoothly; as long as you do her assignments and ask her questions, you will do well in her class. She is a great prof and very approachable, I am waiting for her next 1201 online course!
Deborah is a very good professor. She is very clear and helpful. She is a fair marker; however, she can be tough when grading sentence structure. She is always willing to help her students, and she is a very polite and friendly person. I highly recommend taking any of her classes.
(Online class) Deborah is very friendly and responds to e-mails quickly. She is considerate of the course load of students and is direct in the assignment requirements. She is a slightly tougher marker however, and essay structure is important more so than content. Highly recommend.
I do not recommend Deborah as a teacher. I took her class online. I am a straight A student in University and had difficulty in her class. She is picky about useless things and unreasonable in her marking. Her assignments are unclear and she is the most unhelpful teacher I have ever met. She seems nice enough as a person though.
Her class is not only boring but also silly. If anyone is going to take Eng course in KPU, run away from her as far as possible
Great online teacher!!
Deborah is an amazing teacher, not a very hard marker but she takes mars off for writing in passive voice. She always gives extra time to hand stuff in and is very sweet
Deb talks a lot. She'll sometimes have 20 min classes without warning and she is horrible at replying to emails. I emailed her asking a question on my essay and she didn't reply until 2 weeks later. She says it's okay if you make a mistake and she'll remember to take note but then she deducts marks anyways. For the most part she's an easy marker
that class was super easy & she sympathizes a lot with students.
Deborah is my favourite teacher! She's kind, helpful, understanding, and everything a teacher should be! I love her to death and want to take English with her again.. actually I am certain i will take english with her again and ill make sure of it, even if she teaches really far away from where i live, i will i will i will, shes really good and ama
Deborah is probably one of the best teachers I've had during my time at KPU! She tends to be very understanding of students and tries to maker herself relatable. Easy marker, I'm not a great student nor did I do too well in high school with English but got an A on the midterm!
Her lectures are long and lots of reading, but what do you expect? It's english. ASK HER for help, thats how she knows if you care for this course and wanting to atleast pass. She's really strict on writing in ONLY present tense. LOTS of group work throughout the term. Other than those, I would suggest taking her!
Deborah was actually nicer than I anticipated. She is however a bit strict when it comes to writing in present tense. She will reply to your emails within a day and is very accommodating and understanding. She will do her best to help you if you can't meet a deadline which is great when something goes wrong. Overall, she's a great professor.
Deborah is a consistent marker. Take her preferences in essay writing into consideration because she is very specific in what she likes/doesn't like. Lots of readings and group work, but it's manageable. She loves to help so make sure to ask her questions. Type your essay in the exact format she wants and always write in literary present tense.
Deborah is a very enthusiastic ENGL instructor. She just loves what she does. She is very honest and straight forward. However, she is not an easy marker in 1202 courses but if you at least try in her class, you'll do well.
I took Deborah's online 1202 class and I did well on her class without even trying and procrastinating most of the time. What I really liked about her online 1202 is that even though you hand in late essays, she doesn't take any marks off. I handed in 3 essays before the Finals and she marked it as if it was on time. She understands her students.
Topics may not be interesting to everyone but she does her best to spice them up and make the class more upbeat.
she is always ready to help
There are assignment every week. Couple of the assignments are worth 10% usually are essays 600-800 words. The term paper at the end in worth 20% and the final is worth 25%. She gives lots of great feedback and responds to emails quickly. However, she is super picky on grammar and format. She's a tough marker especially for a first year course.
She was so easy going. I would def take her again.
She is really nice and clear on assignments.
Really nice, enthusiastic about english, fair marker if you pay attention to criteria she lays out for assignments, would definitely take another course with her. Make sure you don't write in passive voice!
She was an amazing instructor who knew what she was talking about. The class was partially online, so we did have to show up for class, but not all of them. It is not as difficult as other ENGL1100 classes. Super easy class! I would definitely take her for my other ENGL courses.
Very disorganized. Directions were clear for the most part but was very strict in terms of grading and grammar. Gave decent feedback. Took it online, she didn't give us a syllabus so I want constantly running around the website looking for criteria. Weekly modules were fairly easy. If you do the assignments and listen to feedback you'll do well.
THE EASIEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER TAKEN!!! I took her course online I would say she is the easiest marker, there wasn't a lot of homework either, she let's u hand in assignment late too. Overall she is a great prof and really helped me get a great mark in English .. the worlds most hardest course !
Amazing prof that really values her students learning to develop their writing skills. I have actually learned to write way better all thanks to Deborah.
GREAT PROF! HARD MARKER, IF YOU EMAIL HER SHE RESPONDS BACK! SHE WAS A TOUGH GRADER. 1 RHETORICAL ESSAY, 1 SUMMARY, 1 TERM PAPER, 1 MIDTERM, 1 PERSUASIVE ESSAY, 1 FINAL. ASSIGNMENTS ARE EASY, SUMMARY WAS ONLY 110 WORDS, AND TERM PAPER WAS 1000 WORDS, CHILL CLASS BUT BORING. LISTEN TO HER FEEDBACK TO GET A BETTER GRADE.
Cares about her students. Clear on what she wants. Lots of assignments to do outside of class. Good class for ESL learners to take before ENGL1100. I am native in English, and passionate about grammar so I found it too easy. She is very clear in her teaching. The only drawback in her teaching is the that she is so overly enthusiastic it's annoying.
Shes awesome! I had her for my first year and I would 100% take her class again.
She is very good and helps student if they have any problem. She is caring .
Prof. Blenkhorn is a sweet and caring Prof. who is passionate for English, which shows in the assignments. She cares a lot about her students. This was an online course and it was easy to get all the weekly assignments finished before the end of the week. Make sure you have a good computer and strong Wi-Fi so that you won't miss updates via email!
I took WRTG1100. She really and truly wants you to succeed. She encourages passion and feeling. I took the course to ensure my writing skills were at the right level for university. She helped me to see my strengths and recognize and fix my weaknesses. I would definitely recommend her. She's kinda goofy and weird in the best ways.
I took Deborah for WRTG 1100 and there isn't much homework except for a couple projects we needed to do but they were really easy. If you show up, pay attention to what she says and do all the projects you will get a good mark. This is a really easy class, I really recommend taking it because its a GPA booster, you will not regret it!
I've taken Deb for English 1100 Online before and I thought she was nice and caring. I feel that having her in-class was a waste of time. The course outline was vague and she makes you work in groups every class (which was torture as there was a cringey in-class debate). This is a writing class, not a party! Attend class or you'll fail big time!
If you're looking to take WRTG 1100 with her I would stay away from it and take a different upgrading English course. Felt like I didn't learn a thing from her! Deborah doesn't teach very much, more just reading textbooks. All her feedback and criteria on assignments are very minimal. Avoid this teacher if possible.
She has taught me some useful tips for writing. One assignment a week, usually pretty straight forward assignments, some are super easy.
She gives homework every week. Some are easy some are hard.
had her for an online semester of English 1204. There are assignments each week wether its a one page summary based on awful English literature or multiple page assignments on content that will bore you. She cares more about formatting than what you actually write. Very hard maker. Delivered all online feels like no prof exists. She is a robot.
SHE IS AMAZING! I will admit that she is a tough marker. However, she provides the assignment criteria and requirements up front. Its an English course. Attention to detail is very important, otherwise you will lose marks. Personally, I never was great in Engl. I learned so much from this professor. Writing tools and techniques I will never forget.
This course is tough if you do not like writing. I hate writing, but I managed to get an A. Deborah gives great feedback. I learned essay formatting and writing techniques. My writing improved. I am glad I took her.
This course made me despise writing. She forces you to use a heavily structured outlines which is enough to make you want to quit the class. I felt like I wasn't able to be creative so it took all the fun out of writing. Pick another professor for this course, trust me.
I took ENGL 1100 with her online and for me, it was a great experience. She is very responsive, and her weekly forums or assignments were mostly based on self-experience. A good GPA booster.
she is strict. definitely harder to get a good grade in her class compare with other professors. You have to do the assignments in her way, otherwise she will mark you down. Also, if you miss her class once, you will get confused easily. Cause she gives assignments in an the old-fashioned way and most of her assignments are done in class.
This Professor is a tough grader, doesn't provide good marks even after a dedicated work. She always finds ways to deduct marks as much as possible. I regret after taking class with this professor, not recommended!
she will support you to pass the class and get more credit.
I took this class with Debbie as my instructor back in the fall semester of 2019. It was a pretty decent course. Classroom work was heavy but I enjoyed writing the assignments that were prescribed. Debbie is a kind English teacher overall!
This professor is simply horrible. No matter how much hardwork you have input, you still get poor results. Always trying to find mistakes in your work. DO NOT CHOOSE HER UNLESS YOU HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE. SHE WILL DEFINITELY MAKE YOUR GPA DROP FOR SURE.
Tough grader. You basically have to do everything her way. The online class has no lecture video/audio/notes whatsoever. Lots of reading (including some materials that I find quite irrelevant and abstract, and also the textbook written by her) and assignments to do on your own every week. Don't take the class if you don't like reading and writing.
Blenkhorn is awesome - she's great at explaining the material, her expectations are clear, and she gives a reasonable amount of work. 10/10, would take her class again
Prof Blenkhorn is super nice but her grading gets confusing. She likes things done her way so make sure to pay attention to her feedback. I took her online class which had no Zoom classes, audio recordings, or anything. You get a brief outline of the assignment that she posts a week or 2 before it's due on Moodle and the rest is up to you.
Very tough grader, find another English instructor if you have a choice. Avg for my section is C.
This was an online course, and was a somewhat easy class for assignment load. You had to do weekly readings, but overall wasnt bad. She is a tough marker, but a very sweet and caring professor.
Professor Blenkhorn has a specific teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class can be rewarding. I found unstuckstudy and the textbook helpful for preparing. Definitely worth taking if you're up for the challenge.
DO NOT TAKE ! She is an extremely difficult marker. If you are worried about your GPA stay away as the class avg is a C . She is very strict and wants it done one way . She does give feedback but it seems even if you follow it and make the changes she will still find more wrong with your work. Went from straight A+ gpa to having a C+ in her class.
I really liked Professor Blenkhorn's class, but I found it challenging to get out of the C+ / B- grade range. Besides being a tough grader, the class is fun and engaging. If you want to earn a good grade (B–A range), you will need to develop strong editing skills and consistent writing habits.
