Tough grader. Took off for squeaky shoes!
I liked her a lot, she really helps you to understand the information. She adds jokes too which is humorous. She talk a little fast, but all her notes are online. Take notes and go to class (she takes attendance) and you will be fine.
I took the online class. It was VERY easy. The first half of the class was just watching videos, which is a waste of time and money, I wouldnt invest in them. The speeches are straight forward, easy, and in a relaxed setting. The final is over the videos, or classes if your taking the real class
She is funny and clear. Her tests, though appear to be a bit harder than you would expect. Be prepared and you will be fine.
I took her Public Speaking Class. I liked it a lot. One day I would go to the lecture which is taught by Prof. Bridges and the rest of the days are in the lab class. I enjoyed the lab in which I made three speeches individually, in a pair, and in a group. Follow instractions to get A's! As long as you study for the tests, they are not hard AT ALL!
She is the best SPEECH teacher ever! Just go to class and get her powerpoint slides and you will do well on her quizes and the final. It is an easy A if you do what your suppose to do in that class. You will have to make speeches, so don't be shock! it is a speech class afterall. She takes ATTENDANCE everyday. So take notes and you'll make an A
She is like the best public speaking teacher ever! I've always been nervouse about taking speech. But she makes the course easy! Just listen to her lectures cuz she takes attendance and her tests which are quizzes basically. Just read her lecture notes and u'll be fine. The labs are easy! Three speech, two quizes and one final. EASY A! Take her!
Very clear. She practically GIVES you the test/quiz questions. Almost everything you need is on the power point lectures, ebook isnt that expensive, you just don't use it a whole bunch =/. The only bad thing is that she takes off MAJOR points for excessive absences.
Very nice teacher. Easy class if you attend. You MUST go to class and you will learn a lot. She has the students, as a group, present each chapter and she will point out what you need to know for the tests. Very easy -- very good teacher.
I don't know about the 'easy' part that those people were talking about. i'm a dedicated students and always makes A's. But i found this course tough because the professor is a very unsympathetic person and her grading is unfair. Take her and you'll see what i mean.
E-mails back right away. Come to class because she gives out test questions. Also, whenever each group presents they give handouts and those are very useful when it comes to taking the exams. The most difficult thing about the class was the digital story presentation, but it is not impossible. Not that difficult of a class.

ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY.GIVES YOU QUESTIONS THAT WILL BE ON THE TEST.ONLY PROBLEM IS THE DIGITAL STORY DONT WAIT UNTIL LAST MINUTE.ONLY 2 EXAMS RELATIVELY EASY.
Does not email back immediately and when she does it seems as if she was annoyed that we emailed her.Digital story is super tedious, so if you take the class start early. Not a bad teacher I just don't recommend her. I think she tries to teach too many classes at once (something like 7 at a time). 1st test is hard; 2nd test is super easy.
CLASS WAS OK, IF YOU KILL IN YOUR SPEECHES, AND HALFWAY DO WELL ON THE QUIZZES YOU ARE GUARANTEED AT LEAST A C! BUT SHE WILL NOT GIVE YOU ANYTHING, YOU HAVE TO EARN IT!
Took online class. shes fair and nice. practice on your speeches. quiz 2 is a lil hard. but she gives u powerpoint notes that help alot. come 2 class! take her for 1300s comm classes. she might seem scatterbrained and talks fast, but she teaches many classes. read syllabus. read announcments on WebCT. Read toolbox in back of book & ull do fine
The class itself is pretty easy all you have to do is go over your pp for the 2 tests you are given. When it comes to your speeches make sure you have all your information and do your outline correct. YOu mostly deal with the TA's. Overall its a fair class, no one should fail it!
very hard grader. i did the outlines and practiced my speeches and ended up with a low B. i never quite figured out what she wanted in a speech. it is best if you memorize your notes and stay on time. group symposium unfair because if there is no leader, it falls apart and there are lazy people. take someone else if you can.
I think what happened was she read all the ratings and saw how everybody was rating her as easy... and decided to change... I HATE this class... she is hard her grading is harsh... I emailed her and got a very very rude response. Everything is unfair... DO NOT TAKE!!
Her directions are so broad! And when you ask her for any help, she looks at you stubid and is like "well this is like this because of this...duhh" She talks a lot and repeats a lot of useless information. Her grading is unfair and she is not sympathetic if you end up screwed in a group.
someone whos been divorced twice probably shouldnt teach a class about interpersonal communication.. seriously.
She gives tips on what will be on the test in her lectures so you have to come to class. She grades hard.
This teacher is terrible! She will not help or accommodate for anything. We signed up for her online SATURDAY class and she still would not accommodate the final since it was on a TUESDAY! do NOT take her.
.....unreasonable is an understatement. I hope she reads this and changes the way she teaches. I regret everyday taking this teacher. Someone needs to do something about her. I will refrain from calling bad names.
Worst. Professor. Ever. Unforgiving, unaccomodating, uninteresting. I used to like public presentation until I got into her class. Will not help you for ANYTHING. Steer clear of this professor.
I did my best on my first speech and she gave me an 82, then you also have to critique a peer and if you dont turn it in, you will be deducted 20 points but will not gain any!!!!!
I just took this class Fall 09, and she will NOT, I mean will NOT help her students for anything. You can not miss class at all or show up late or she'll deduct whole letter grades off your speeches. I think you have to be near death for her to even consider helping you out. Public Speaking should not be this hard!!
There is no word in the english language to describe how unreasonable this woman is. The only excuse for missing class or a speech i can think of is if u die (and then she'd still fail u). Go to class, turn everything in on time & in the right format (read CAREFULLY!). Quizzes & tests are easy. I got an A cuz im good at speeches. DONT TAKE HER!!!!!
so is it better to take this professor online or face to face?
She used to work with lawyers in the past & i think thats why her rules are so outrageous. It's like she's not human...no feeling or understanding whatsoever. Don't take her if you care about your gpa.
This professor has very strict guidelines for not missing any class or even being late to class. So this is a class that you definitely cannot skip. Other than that this is an easy course, only 3 speeches and the quizzes/tests are very easy if you study a little bit.
You MUST attend class and be on time, BIG consequences if you don't. Easy A if you do your work, which isn't very time consuming at all. A few mass lectures on Monday and Wed and Fri lab with the TA. Make sure you take the class at a time you don't mind showing up for, and it is an easy A. Three speeches, two quizzes (open book), one exam.
Awful teacher, does nothing, uses her T.A.s to do all her work and is completely unresonable when it comes to any instances in which you need to talk to her about anything....lets small instances weigh on your grade heavily....awful teacher (if you can consider her that) do not take!
I never met the professor. I took an online course and she uses an instructor/TA for all of the class meetings. Her instructions for the course are very strict, but sometimes confusing. The instructor she chose was quite helpful, but the professor herself was basically unavailable. You HAVE to follow the rules exactly to make a good grade.
I took this as an online class, but still had to come to campus. I think I learned a lot though, and my TA was really cool.
So can someone please expalin how you take public speaking as an online course. It reallyi is hard to understand that.
I took it online. You have to come on campus 4 times: once for each of the 3 speeches, and then once for the final. In general, class is kind of easy. I never met Mrs. Bridges, but her TA is awesome. TA does pretty much all the grading. Lectures recorded on youtube about 1 hr each. Final exam was easy. I got A-
The teacher uses her TAs heavily and the speeches are harshly graded.I would give this class a C overall.
This class was definitely an easy A---if and only IF you go to class everytime. Pick a time you will go. There are 3 speeches during the class and I made A's on them all. Do the extra credit. You hardly see Bridges, it is mostly your instructor. Great class overall!
Very easy A. You hardly see the prof after halfway through the semester because you don't have to attend lecture as much. The TAs are AWFUL! My TA should never teach speech in a million years! Don't take Kennedy if at all possible b/c you see the TAs more than the prof. Easy class overall, you have to attend class to make an A however.
I took the online class and it honestly depends on your TA's grading. I did have a friend who took the lecture course while i was taking online and he did much better scoring A's on every speech. I would reccomend the lecture over the online. It's hard to be motivated to watch her lectures on youtube and you often don't know exactly what is wanted
I took this course online. It was hard for a Core Class. I made straight A's in all my upper level science classes and an A- in this course. It depends on your TA. And you have to be disciplined to spend your time to watch the Youtube lectures and follow all her directions on the syllabus bc shes extremley PICKY. Save your money and take it at HCC.
This professor uses her TA's for every little thing. It is almost impossible to talk with her without going through your TA first. The only thing I will warn you about are the quizzes and the Final exam. Make sure you go to class, take notes and you should do fine.
Who is the best TA for that class?? and why?
for the people who took the class online was the text book necessary ?
HORRIBLE teacher, don't expect to learn how to publicly speak. I took this class thinking it would help me get over and learn ways to be a better public speaker....not the case. You see the teacher maybe 5 or 6 times and the rest of the class is with the TA's. She constantly rambles about gibberish. Book is worthless and expensive, But "you need i
Online class involves going to give 3 speeches and take 1 test. You only have to go to school 4 times, so you obviously can't miss or be late. Read the syllabus thoroughly and practice, practice, practice your speech. If you do that, you should be fine.
I read the bad reviews about professor Bridges prior to taking this course and luckily did not worry about all of the negative words. You literally see professor Bridges 6 times, and the rest was with Kennedy, which is a great TA! Show up to class, pay attention and do well on your speeches and you will get an A like myself.
took class online. never saw the real prof. ta grades everything. 3 speeches and one exam. easy if you prepare good speeches and have a really lenient ta
Two big grades are your chapter presentation and film analysis. The rest is participation and easy homework...
Overall, an easy class. If you get JORDAN as your TA, RUN. I think she got fired this semester, but who knows. There are 3 Speeches, 3 Quizzes, and 1 Final Exam. Prof. Bridges only goes over her slides and you barely see her. It is much EASIER to take this FACE to FACE since you know your audience when you giving your speeches. Got my A anyways. :)
I took this as a hybrid class. Lectures went by really quickly and she lets you know what's on the quiz/test. There are 2 quizzes, 3 speeches, and 1 comprehensive exam. I did pretty bad on the speeches, but I made an A- in the class because of the comprehensive exam & attendance grade. Since the quiz was online, she let you use your notes.
You will rarely see her since TAs do most of the 'teaching.' Your experience will depend on your TA. Simple quizzes, presentations, and exercises. Stricly sticks to syllabus and sends out emails if anything changes.
Interesting class, you'll learn a lot. 2 exams, a paper, and the class ended about 2 weeks before my other classes. Tests are not too hard; paper is 7-9 pages. Take her.
took her over the summer and never saw the professor. you only deal with your TA no matter what the problem is. There were 3 speeches and a comprehenssive exam. speeches are graded strickly and its not an easy grade.
don't take this class. I though it was a good elective and like everyone else say's: the professor never shows up, her TA grades really strictly and unfair, and the class is not intriguing. If you want a good grade or at least to learn something, take a different class.
I guess it all depends on who your TA is. Aside from the fact that one of the speeches was based on the textbook, the textbook was pretty unnecessary. Her lectures and powerpoints are pretty straightforward.
Bridges is pretty boring and reads off a PowerPoint that's badly disorganized but I really liked my TA. The speeches are pretty easy if you don't mind public speaking, but you can lose points easily. There is an attendance grade which is 10%. Pretty easy class, minimal effort if you can memorize speeches easy, the final is multiple choice.
Never saw the professor, only the TA. Our TA was very helpful and understood that not everyone is good at giving speeches. She graded very easy and gave us hints throughout the course. If you do not get an easy TA, do not take this course.
The most unforgiving and unsympathetic professor you will ever come across. Unless you are on your death bed, you are not excused from ANYTHING. I have never met a professor, better yet, a human being even remotely like her. Definitely inhumane and heartless. Maybe that's why she's been divorced twice.
Such a nice lady and funny too. I enjoyed her class. Basically students give weekly presentations in groups on each chapter. Easy A.. 2Tests, 1 five-pg paper (movie review), & she takes attendance
I took the online summer course. The class itself is pretty easy. 3 speeches,an exam and a couple of short speech evaluations. As others have noted, your speech grades really depend on what TA you receive. The professor is basically useless. The lectures are on YouTube and she mostly says what's on the powerpoint. She's not really helpful AT ALL.
Took the online class, but had a "lab" attached to it where you go to campus to present your speeches. The course depends on the TA because professor does nothing. If you ever need to email the professor she will be condescending towards you.
Absoulutly horrid teacher. I never have written a comment on this site before, but I felt extremely compelled to because I feel there are not enough warnings in this comment section. She will not do anything to help you. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She went out of her way to fail students and was extreamly harsh. She is not worth your time or money.
This class is an Easy A if put forth some effort. You have 3 speeches and 2 small quizzes online as well as a comprehensive final. TAs really determine how much you enjoy this class. Be warned that the syllabus is quite strict.
Not helpful at all. She is rude talks down to you even if u ask a legit question or verify information on her very somewhat confusing directions on BB. So glad Instructor Warrick is my TA. Direct everything to her/other TAs. I don't know what the Prof does. High grade on speeches but low on my outlines which is based on her Sample outlines.
Easy class. She is a bit of a mess with organization, but otherwise is a good teacher, and relates every lecture to a test. 2 tests, 1 paper, and a group project. She's nice, but doesn't grant much leeway with missing assignments or class. Funny, enjoyable class.
Over rated class. Lots of busy work; as mentioned by other posters, high grades on the speeches but low on the outlines. This class should be an easy A but they screwed me over on that. Easy because it's online, grading scale is crap. Speech topics are really stupid.
It's a simple class as long as you show up and participate. There are no exams instead you have three speeches , but they are graded fairly easily so don't worry. The lectures are fine and everything you need will be posted online. Watch your attendance though costs you points.
She is there for you and is helpful. She has good charisma. However, she only lectures on Mondays for that class. Labs are held with helpful lab instructors. Students must do an informative, group, and persuasive peech. Participation is graded.
Nice lady, but you really don't see her much. Monday lectures with her and Wednesday and Friday lab with your TA. So how well you enjoy the class really depends on your TA. Instructor Bukowski is awesome! Overall, an easy and helpful class. Learnsmart assignments, 3 speeches and mandatory attendance.
My classmates and I agreed to leave negative reviews because she is THAT awful. The good reviews of her are from people who must have never personally spoke to her. She is rude and condescending. And forget and help with test dates or anything like that. She's the worst. Stay away.
She (ironically) communicates horribly via email - she always comes across rude. In person she is friendly and in honesty she is accommodating within reason. Anyone leaving her a negative review is more than likely a student who needs their hand held in order to pass, and she won't do that. She coo tho.
Just keep up with the policy statement. Turn in and complete all assignments on time. She will follow the book, so if you need examples.. just look in the book. Dont expect to be walked through every single detail.
I had no probs w/ her. She can seem rude through email but she's truly not. Class is a breeze. 2 tests & some simple HW assignments. 1 group presentation & a video analysis paper/video at the end. She does take attendance & counts it towards final grade. Tests are short & straight from the book. Not a tough class. Just show up. Easy A.
Do the work that she assigns, the way she assigns it and it's impossible not to make an A. She gives example speeches and outlines that you can use as templates for yours. Do the work and get an A!
She is the most unorganized teacher I've ever encounter, however. If you listen to her (she gives out test answers) and actually read the book like she advises you'll be fine. The project is super easy and the tests are literally straight from the book. Attendance is mandatory.
Took her my last semester and that was by far the easiest , most interesting class. The project was really fun, she gives 2 options. And we had to do presentations which she graded really easy. We sometimes had homework but it was a piece of cake.
She does not have any feelings she will fail you if you turn in the speeches even 1 minute late, i had trouble uploading and couldn't contact Mcgraw hill. Speeches are about 25% So if you do poorly you will have to retake the class
THE LEAST UNDERSTANDING PROFESSOR I'VE HAD DURING MY 3 YEARS AT UH. I have had difficulty uploading one assignment & I followed all of her directions for this & she still didn't care & deducted points. Her grading practices are not clear at all. It's honestly like she doesn't actually care about your performance in the class. She doesn't help.
i took the online speech class. if you email this professor in the wrong format (didn't CC all of the right people, wrong subject line, etc) she takes 10 to 25 point she off your last project grade. this professor is not understanding in anyway and if you have any problems uploading or submitting anything it is an automatic 0.
Holy cheese did this class stress me the dairy out. Did you forget to CC an instructor in an e-mail? 10 POINTS DEDUCTED. Having trouble uploading any of your 3 speeches? 25 POINTS OFF. 5 POINTS OFF for not including your middle name. JK. Speeches are quite simple to do, TAs may or may not forget to post your grade, blunt responses, etc. Just no.
To get an A: read the assigned ch. in the textbook (old edition of text works just fine), go to class & note down what she tells you to. easy group project where y'all present a ch. together, also a simple video assignment given towards the end of class, some hw given but not much. easy exams. would recommend.
This class is terrible. DO NOT TAKE IT. The professor is not accessible whatsoever. She takes 10 points off your speech grade if you email her in an incorrect format. The grading practices are not consistent at all either.
The sole reason I decided to create an account on this site was to write a review of this woman. Her thick Texas accent provided my ears with restless discomfort. Her grading is beyond preposterous. Her attitude is that of a 16 YO "daddy's princess". Her class is dull and wasteful. Overall, this professor might just be the worst person I know.
The course itself was not difficult for the grades were from learnsmarts, three speeches, and one short paper. I felt as though the Teacher Assistants were the professor. Also, I'm very against the emailing system, bc a wrong subject line is deduction from a grade, and I truly believe one's grade should reflect their merit and work, not a mistake
Make a mistake kiss valuable points goodbye. She offers little leniency on mistakes and deducts points off of your grade for minor email mistakes. Doesn't care about student success and is a tough grader who doesn't listen to concerns. Do yourself a favor and take another course or with a different professor
Class isn't hard but the grading is ridiculous. The teaching assistants pretty much do everything. Email policy is a bit ridiculous and the professor does not care about the students. Tells you to go to BB for everything on the first day, then pretty much never shows up to class. Condescending in her emails. Does not care to help students.
Class isn't that bad if you read the instructions. She is very particular with everything including how you email her. You will not do well if you don't look at the instructions very carefully. She is fun to talk to, she loves what she teaches, and you actually learn a lot. Hard, if you don't put in the effort. Would take her again!
NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT POINTS OFF FOR EVERYTHING. I understand that we have to follow instructions as students but these professors take it to serious. It's like they have no actual care for the students because anything you ask or say to them is pointless they never give good feedback. PLUS the real teacher doesn't even teach!
She's a stickler for the rules, some of us that missed the final due to valid reasons had to retake it and she made us take a harder final with points deducted. And she was very rude
All of the previous reviews about her are accurate. She is a harsh grader with absolutely NO exceptions all in the name of being "fair". You HAVE to study the reviews to do good on the tests because they're multiple choice. She offers extra credit but they are attending lectures, so if you work or have a full schedule, you won't benefit much.
ok this course sucks. having this professor is a great idea if you enjoy getting points off for every single thing but you wild if you like that. every assignment is extremely nit-picky and assignments aren't due at midnight, they're due at 11 AM or noon (who does that???). her tests aren't anything like reviews and projects too much to handle.
This is the worst professor i have ever taken throughout my studying years. I should have received an A. Rude and Strict!! Due dates for speeches are at 11pm and are super strict with that. If you do not trust your computer dont take her. My computer froze on me while i was submitting speech. Emailed her the proof and still deducted 20% of overall.
A lot of people were scared of this professor, but as long as you can follow very specific directions, youll be okay.
