Highly recommend. Definitely an asset to LLCC faculty

This class is very difficult and you have to work at it, but you will learn so much. I Love Deborah and have also had her for Women's studies/women's lit! She is great!!
I was surprised that I actually grew to love this class. Deborah is very funny! I really learned alot from her about film and how society looks at children and I never expected to read Peter Pan but I did and I liked it. I didn't know there were so many PP movies or different versions of the story. Interesting teacher and a good class. Take it!
Deborah has a good heart and really means well. Sometimes this class can be really frustrating, sometimes it can be really fun. It seems that sometimes she has trouble explaining projects and assignments, but she does her best to help you understand. This class is Women's Studies,so I don't recommend taking if you don't agree with feminism.
I love Deborah! She is a great teacher and cares about her students. If she pushes you, it's because she knows you can do better!
Deborah is a very sweet person, I think she does what she can to make people understand the material. I also think that if she used material that referenced things that are more culturally popular then people wouldnt jump down her throat for using material that she chooses to use in her comp classes. Deborah is a great teacher and I recommend her c
Love her! She's amazing and extremely smart!
Deborah is a wonderful person. But a wonderful person does not make a good teacher. She's very passionate, but pretty incomprehensible. She has a passion for literature and women's studies, but I would never recommend taking one of her classes.
Dr. Brothers is excellent. I had her for comp and lit. You will work hard but you will not regret it. Go to office hours and conferences. She is kind and understanding and very understandable. Everything is laid out on the calendar and she explains it. Oh, one word, annotate! lol!
Deborah is a great teacher. She is very unique in her teachings but also makes me want to come to class just learn more and engage in the discussions we have in class. I think any student should take her class for a semester and let her show you her great ways of teaching.
Ammmazzzinnnnggg
Deborah is more than a good person she is a great professor. I took her for 2 classes, lit and com. Conferences are very helpful 2. She works hard & always explains things. Does not use Blackboard but keeps class web sites. Interesting & funny & kind. Loved her!
Very demanding class schedule, lots of writing and a good amount of review. Don't expect a walk in the park, but if you put the time in and work to the best of your ability an A is possible. After taking her class and moving on to com 112 it is a breeze simply because I have already done everything the prof asks for. Definitely prepares you for 112
Love her! I have learned so much from Deborah's classes. Take her and you won't be sorry!
Very Good.
Excellent!
also had her for humanities 102 deborah was a great teacher with a lot of passion for her subjects.com 111 was tough but worth the effort .good prep for 112. hum 102 womens studies course that i highly recommend as important to all for higher education. greast class and leaarned very much!
Deborah is a wonderful teacher. Not harder than she should be but you do have to work and you will learn if you do the work.
This class was no walk in the park, but it is def. good prep for COM 112 and Professor Brothers is very approachable and willing to help however she can!
For a class that we have to take I reccomend Dr. Brothers. Lets you revise all semester and conferences are very helpful.
Brothers is awesome. Conferences are so helpful and she lets you revise all semester.
She is very helpful when it comes to essay revision and conferences. If you really try in her class and make an effort, you will be rewarded with a good grade. Do the work, show up to class and you'll pass easily. Probably one of the best COM teachers I've ever had.
Definitely one of my favorite professors! She is so smart and really conveys that through the teaching of the various novels read-- woman knows her stuff! Plus, she's hilarious, and soft-spoken. Class is not too much work, but you need to show and put forth the effort to get an "A." LOVE DR. BROTHERS! > favorite professor I've ever had.
One of the best classes I have ever had! She knows what she is doing. It is a lot of reading and writing but I revised two of my papers and she replaces the old grade with the higher grade.
Sizzling. . . .what a great class.
Dr. Brothers was great for COM 111. I feel like she really wants you to learn something. While there were often short papers due, it was never anything unreasonable.
I had Brothers for COM-111. I did not have a good experience in her class. I feel like she just expects you to show up and know things without actually teaching them. As a person i think she's great, and I can even see her being great in her Childrens Lit class but I wouldn't ever choose her for COM again.
It seemed like she was lost most of the time. She forgets why she writes certain notes on our essays. She expects us to know so much going in to the class. She's a great person who i'm sure would make a great friend, but she makes a horrible com teacher. She cancels class so much but expects us to keep up with everything. Its exhausting.
awful
She was not a good teacher and I felt that she should have done a better job because she wouldn't really teach us anything about COM related things instead she would expect us to just know it all
I took her for intro to the novel and her children's lit class. At first I was turned off by how feminist she is, especially when I didn't sign up for her women's studies course. However after getting to know her and getting used to the class I found her to be an incredibly kind, interesting and instructive professor.
Deborah = THE MOST INSPIRING EDUCATOR I'VE EVER HAD. I LOVE DIS WOMAN!!!!
Dr.Brothers is awesome and is always willing to help her students. She teaches you how to think on your own and become a top notch writer, all relatively painlessly!
If you are looking to slack off and ease by with a C this class is not for you. She is a good teacher and makes you work for your grade.
At first she was making the class guns and I was excited to get to discuss novels with everyone. She picked out great books but didn't give us enough time to finish them. Then, she tested us on things she didn't even teach us. The class got sloppy and irrelevant to anything we had learned. I ended up being very disappointed.
Don't expect an easy grade, but she does let you rewrite everything for the final portfolio. She provides great notes. She is a pretty big feminist-that can get on people's nerves-but she argues with those who disagree with her, hoping to sharpen their argumentation skills. She plays devil's advocate. Duh. Fantastic teacher. Inspiring.
Excellent teacher, her views are feminist in nature, but as long as you are not a male chauvinist, she's great. Very helpful when writing papers. I've never met someone who can be a better devils advocate. She made me a much better writer
Very confusing. Difficult material. Inconsistent and tough grading.
Her feedback is awesome. She has conferences with writing students about four times during the semester. She also responds a lot to email writing questions. Come to class and do the reading and ask if you have questions. She helped me be a better writer.
I took her Children's Lit class in the fall of '13. I enjoyed it very much. Read is required. there were 10 books and you had to right a report on 5. There were also 2 presentations that you have to give. The class has a lot of work required but is incredibly fun and she is very helpful and understanding. I highly recommend this class.
Love her!
Probably the best professor I've ever had at LLCC... she emphasizes class discussion and listens and responds earnestly and supportively to students. Grading is fairly easy if you do the work. Overall amazing teacher, kind of a hippy but that makes her that much cooler
Best organized online class I have had. A lot of reading but good video lectures and clear discussion and writing prompts. She even had a rubric for discussion board. It was not a class I wanted to take but I am glad I did.
Dr. Brothers is a very professional professor. She plans every assignment out in advance and places them on the syllabus. She will not remind you of any assignments; they are 100% your responsibility. I enjoyed her class, but it can be boring because she requires discussion and many students don't talk. This is an easy class if you participate.
Great!!
Its a have to take class but she is a good professor and makes you think. Feedback on writing is not personal. She has a grading rubric. She was always friendly and I got alot more help by seeing her in the writing center.
This professor is good, we are just a few weeks in the class but already I met with her 3 times going over papers. She helps me get focused so i can write and she was kind and respecting of me.
loved this class! lady knows her stuff.
I signed up for her class because I heard it was good. I thought it would be useful for me as a future child counselor so I thought why not? It was totally not what I thought it was going to be but it was amazing especially if you participate! She wants to hear your thoughts. Two tests, quizzes, short papers and a project and offers EC.
Deborah is an okay professor. Her ways of teaching are different, to say the least. Homework is very frequent in her class that is always checked in a "learning journal." The class itself is not challenging if you do the work and understand the material.
She is a great professor and not an okay professor. In our intro to lit we did not have learning journals but have 3 self evaluations. We had to write literary responses to the readings and we were expected to take an interest and participate. I learned a lot. She's one of the best at LLCC!
Best teacher ever, always enjoyed her class
Not a bad professor but could be better. Each time I emailed w/ questions I got very short unhelpful replies. I took it over the summer and she seemed like she had better things to do than pay attention to the class.
She is the best out there. Take her and you will be happy you did!
It is kind of amazing. She makes it interesting and I have learned so much!
She is an amazing professor. I am in her Children's Lit class and it is my favorite class that I have taken. She is so passionate about her job and is truly inspiring. There is a lot of reading to do, and be sure to fully read everything. She gives many opportunities for extra credit, so take advantage of those.
I love this class! I have learned so much and have fun while doing it. Her quizzes and tests aren't hard if you read and are aware of the characters and plot. Her projects are fun. She says exactly what is expected and when things are due so no surprises. She is very nice and helpful if you have questions. I would take her class again.
I took Women's Lit online from her one summer and then had Dr. Brothers for composition and another literature course. I've kept in touch and she has been a real mentor. She is genuine and she loves teaching and it shows.
I am struggling some in my lit class but that is more my fault than hers. She does move quickly through the reading and there's lots of books to read, to many for my taste. She seems caring and is very knowing of her subject.
Doesnt reply fast to emails, when she does it short non helpful answeres.
Dr. Brothers is amazing, this is my third class with her at LLCC. Show up and do the work and you will pass. She is always willing to help and give you back feedback. Her classes are extremely interesting and she is a pleasure to be around, take her classes you will not regret it! The best professor in her department.
I have heard from people that they have disliked Professor Brothers but I have taken two classes with her & have enjoyed every second of it. She has a great personality and that makes it easier to pay attention. She can sometimes come off as "to strict" when she notices you aren't paying attention. In reality, she just cares about your education.
Her lectures are a little out there sometimes, and she is extremely passive aggressive. Her class, however is very easy, you pretty much get an A+ just for doing the assignments. Easy A, but torture to sit through.
She gives good feedback on papers. I'm not sure if I would recommend taking her for online classes however. It can be extremely easy to get lost or confused, even if you're a good student. Not many grades to go off of. I love how passionate she is about what she teaches, and how she lets us personalize our essays, responses, and discussion boards.
She makes you feel stupid and I have a learning disability. She doesnt help and makes snarky comments on papers she grades for you.
I took EGL 102. The class itself was not terrible. There was a lot of writing and it was over the same topic. The class seemed very political which is not something I expected from a Composition class. Overall, the class was not bad I just did not enjoy the same topic we based every paper on.
She is very passive aggressive and corrected me on points in my paper, that had nothing to do with the structure of outline of my work. She would nitpick tiny things and not correct big errors I was making and then talk down to me like I was stupid. I have never had a college professor like her- and that is not a compliment.
It's a great class and she's organized and interesting.
What's best are the revision notes and meeting with her to talk. I am planning to take her for 102.
I took children's lit and it was the only class I truly enjoyed this semester. She is a great professor, and is very kind and always available if you need help. I genuinely loved this class and the professor so much. HIGHLY recommend. Only reason I got a B is b/c I didn't turn a couple things in. Definitely take this class if you like to read!
I have taken Dr. Deborah Brothers class two times now. I just finished with EGL-102-10. I like how the textbook can actually be used for other classes. The chapter book she gives you is very useful and utilized throughout the semester. There was overall I think 4 to 5 essays to write. Professor Brothers gives plenty of time to get assignments done.
The teacher does not explain assignments well and if email her she will not get back to you that day and if she does email you back it is a short response that does not help you do the assignment. Her lectures do not really teach me anything about what is being used in the assignment.
She has no life and only cares about writing, enough to force you to free write. I personally was going to college for agriculture, which should not require me to write a million essays a week that she assigned.
I really enjoyed this class. For a 6 week class, it isn't over whelming and the course material is fairly easy. She gives great feedback and isn't a tough grader. I really enjoyed her assigned readings and my classmates. I would definitely take her class again.
This class has a lot of fun material to cover and contains some interesting reads. The main problem is, if you want anything to be explained clearly or thoroughly then just don't bother. If you do ask questions to understand, then you will not get a response until weeks after the due date.
Every assignment is hard to even process what you are supposed to do or write about. So many writing assignments for a class that is not an English class. Lectures do not help with assignments. Everything seems repetitive. Professor is very nice and friendly, plus relaxed on deadlines, but overall class is very unenjoyable.
This class is not an English class, but we have a paper almost EVERY week. It is getting very redundant. The lectures are usually not relevant. I am getting very very burnt out.
Great class. Well organized and I leaned a lot.
Dr. Brothers is a great communicator and makes it very apparent what she is looking for in each essay. She cares a lot about the students, and is very understanding about struggles with writing. Provides clear feedback. I appreciated the ability to revise essays to obtain a better grade. Office hours >>>
Dr. Brothers is an amazing teacher. I have a graduate degree, so I am accustomed to working for a grade. She is really gifted in applying the major concepts of children's literature to the assignments. I would recommend her for any class. I know she also teaches lower-level ENG classes which are required. Just take her, do the work, and learn.
Every page number, chapter, or date she gives you is incorrect. You have to find it all on your own its very frustrating
Prof. Brothers assigned a lot of writing work, but overall was great with grading. I didn't have any issues with this professor online and she also provides most of the children's book you have to read as videos or PDFs- so you don't really need to buy them. Good class overall and is a safe pick for an English teacher compared to Swafford.
