Terrible teacher, count how many times she says um...that is the most interesting part of the class. Research paper worth 30 percent of your grade...no one got higher than an 80 and she made corrections on it such as changing presently to currently!

Yes the teacher sucks, no the class isn't hard. For your essays just repeat her opinion on your paper and she will give you a good grade. It takes her a month or more to get your essays back to you though.

Avoid this teacher at all costs. she gives an assignment and then while grading decides she wanted you to do something totally different to then grades accordingly, thus everyone gets "D's." However, if you brownose, this is your teacher.

This teacher wants to see you fail. She told our class that we are all going to fail out of college and she won't be sad when it happens. SHe is very unclear of what she wants, but if you don't read her mind.......F She loves the F.

Not to be a jerk or anything, but I think this professor is the worst I've ever met. She quickly alienates the students by insulting us, and I really and truly think that she should be avoided at all costs if you want to remain a happy college student.

Avoid this prof at all costs. When citing a paper, if you put a period instead of a comma or vice versa in one entry in the bibliography, you get no credit for the paper. She is also very unclear about what it is she wants and is not very helpful. If you happen to have her, good luck.

I once wrote a paper worth 30% of my final grade and she said "Your paper is extrememely well written. It fits the criteria perfectly. Not what i was looking for. F" She had even had corrected it herself a week earlier. -that's funny, i thought the criteria WAS what you wanted-

Deborah Buffton is the devil, I went to talk to her a few times about my papers and what not and she still gave me a D in the course. I have never received a D or even a C in any Gen Ed course except for this course. By all means stay out of her section.

Her class ruined my GPA. She has such high standards but does not explain her expectations clearly to students. She is very stuck on herself and does not listen to comments that do not fit her own ideals.

I was in seminary for two years before taking this class. This woman knows nothing about Christianity or the history of Israel. She would insult me when I would offer an opinion different from her own.

I took her class 5 years and I still wake up in a cold sweat from the nightmares that I have about being in this class. She is truly satan spawn! Truly and really! Avoid taking this teacher at all costs. If it means you have to stay an extra semester- so be it. You will thank me in the end.

She is an evil witch. I had to drop her class a month into the semester because she would not grade my journals that I handed in because I didn't staple them. She gave me a zero and I am a straight a student. She goes out of her way to make people miserable.

She is absolutely horrible. We had about 80 students at the beginning of the semester when I had her and there were probably less than 20 students left after mid semester because she is so impossible. I tried so hard in this class and failed. It's extremely generous of her to give out a C. DO NOT TAKE HER!

Most class time was taken up by her off subject liberal rants. When she did concentrate on the material at hand her knowledge of the subject matter and teaching style were well below par. She is a history professor who aspires to be a sociologist, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!

This was an extremely difficult class and it's only a gen ed. Compared to other HIS 102 classes this was way too difficult. She grades very harshly and doesn't tell you what you did wrong. I would recommend taking anyone BUT her!

Very unorganized, the class turns into a game-show through "mandatory participation" and she ums and ahs her way through every lecture. worst prof & class ever! very hard to understand. no powerpoints/notes are used so you have to pay attention to her lectures and take good notes in order to do well on essays. she gives random short answer essays every now and then, which is very annoying. you must attend basically every class or you fail after the 6th missed. boring, boring!!!!!!!

She was probably the worst professor I have ever had. It was far too demanding for a gen ed class. The highest grade was a B and that kid was the biggest suckup of all time. Avoid taking her class if you can. expect something below a C even if you put in maximum effort. Assignments are unclear. participation is mandatory, but never fulfilled.

DR. BUFFTON is possibly one of the worst teachers I've ever had. Before taking this class I was heavily considering majoring in history with a human rights emphasis and I no longer want to thanks to DR. BUFFTON. AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS. She talks nonsense the whole class which puts you to sleep but you cant sleep or you'll miss the assignment she randomly throws in the middle of her lecture. This professor is very rude. Her lectures and essays are pretty easy, but if you confront her about a personal issue she is definitely not merciful. She also is very rude to any student who dares to do something that she does not like-like ask for a Kleenex in the middle of class.She has no sympathy She is very dry, boring and rude.Do not take her.

Lectures are all over the place and disconnected. Puts approx. 3 words on the board and everything comes from what she says, which never makes any sense. Essays, readings and assignments NEVER relate to anything she talks about. No excuses for missing class nor getting up in the middle of class. I would not reccomend taking her if avoidable.

Dr. B is THE WORST college professor that I have had. Her lectures have nothing to do with the papers she assigns. She tells you what she expects in your paper AFTER you turn it in. AVOID her she is terrible. She grades essays based on what she believes.

She doesn't explain an assignment once it is given to you. Once she grades the paper she thinks it's completely your fault for getting a low grade. At this time she will then explain the assignment? Dr. Buffton provides the vaguest possible criteria for assignments and then smashes your grade for not guessing what she wanted. I found her to be condescending and combative when students sought help. Exams are ALL handwritten essays which she will happily paint red for you based on no prior specifications. She is an abominable educator, drop her.

Buffton is one of the most unfair teachers I have ever had. We had two grades in that class to make up our final grade. One was an in-class written midterm, the second a final essay. The essay was an "in your opinion.." question. When I got my paper back she had written only three letters as comments: a huge red "D" and under that, the word "NO."

Dr. Buffton is a very nice lady, but she grades based on opinionated reflections. If they're not her opinion (anti-war), don't expect a good grade. Very unclear on what she even wants from assignments. Classes are officially done and I couldn't even guess what my grade will be because we only have 400 points graded out of 1000.

Buffton is the most unclear professor I have ever had, she bases her grades off her views and if you don't have the same your grade will suffer. We received our take home final and I have never had to do so much work for a final in which her questions make no sense or even pertain to the whole semester. DO NOT TAKE!

She doesn't like it when you have an opinion in your paper that she doesn't agree with and if you say something in class that she may not agree with, good luck getting through the rest of the semester. Her grading for a 200 level class was way harsh. Avoid taking her if at all possible.

She is not a good teacher. Lots of reading and you HAVE to pay attention in class. Quizes almost every Friday that are over the past week or two of class material and it is quite ambiguous. Exams are pretty tough. If you miss 3 classes unexcused it is an AUTO FAIL. Would not recommend.

Worst class I have ever been in. Attendance is mandatory and she doesn't stop lecturing until the very end of class. You don't know your grade the entire semester. Tests and exams are all essay. Extremely boring lectures. DO NOT TAKE BUFFTON.

If you miss more than 3 classes you lose 50 points off of your final grade regardless if you had a doctors note (which I had). Class is out of 1000 points so you automatically lose 5%. She never mentions participation all year and only offers a select amount of times in class to raise your hand, valued at 10% of your final grade. not a fan at all.

You will write pointless, long papers instead of taking tests. Her lectures are long and pointless, since there are no tests and quizzes.

I went into this class really hopefully and willing to learn because I usually found world history amazing. She absolutely ruined it for me and I cannot wait to be done with this class. Assigns papers with vague topics making it difficult to write on, then is a strict grader about it. If you ever leave the room to go to the bathroom, she'll email you to make you explain to her why it's more important than her class. She takes "privileges" without explanation or a chance to get them back. She won't give you any feedback on her grading or explain how to improve. Overall a very poor teacher, avoid her if possible.

Prepare to read a whole lot, and in a very short amount of time. You need to go to class to have a chance at getting a passing grade. Avoid taking this as your gen ed requirement. Don't take unless you absolutely have no other options.

Her lectures are mostly related to Japan or China in one way or another even if the reading is about another part of the world and she often gives unclear instruction on her writing assignments. The class does have minimal assignments but she is a rather tough grader. Her lectures often stray from what the reading is about making class confusing.

For a Gen Ed, this class was extremely hard. Buffton makes things seem more like a English class, grading papers very specifically. Would definitely recommend avoiding her.

She has pointless power points that are probably six slides long with about four bullet points of information on each. She lectures in the dumbest fashion by not lecturing about the reading. When asked what to expect for a quiz, she just says "everything from (date-date)" with no notion of what unit it is, learning targets to follow or anything.

I received A's & B's on every single assignment before the final. When final grades came out I received a C &had no idea how. I contacted her and she said 1 of my 3 essays on the final was bad and that somehow resulted in 100 points off of my final which was worth 250 points. She is a terrible lecturer and grader. Would never recommend her.

I received A's on most of my assignments prior to the final and received a C on the first exam. I wrote my final essay the same way I wrote my first one but received a D. She asks for VERY specific answers for the journal writings even though she said that it is supposed to be about personal reflection. Very tough grader. Wouldn't recommend.

She was very focused on the events of the Middle East during the entire duration of the class, which was not the description of the class. She grades extremely difficulty on the mid term and final essay. Very unfair grader. Marked off point in my essay for using the word "little" instead of "few".

There were only 2 major essays, all of which I received C on because "I didn't answer the question correctly". She is very specific on what she wants for those. There are 3 page reflections and a news report due every week, so stay on top of those, plus different readings.

Very unclear with what she wants as far as objectives of assignments. Argues with your thought process on papers if it isn't exactly what she thinks. Has an attendance policy of missing more than three classes you will "probably" fail in her syllabus, but she will fail you instantly if you miss a fourth class. Would not take her again.

She takes attendance every day. Make sure you read the book as it is assigned because she will call on you and if you don't know the answer she will take 10 minutes out of class to keep asking you questions you won't know. She makes you write 3 page reflection per week plus another page assignment. Very boring and long lectures. Avoid at all costs

Tests are in essay format and it seems that she expects you to know everything on the study guide, which is not as easy as it sounds when taking essay exams. She's somewhat accessible outside of class. She's a stickler for things like phones and laptops, if you have a busy schedule, don't count on her to give you a break.

Dr. Buffton was a joke as a "teacher". She grades on the matter of her own opinions meaning if she doesn't agree with it, automatic C or D, even if well written. Be ready to look stuff up on google considering she teaches very broad on the topics and expects so much on the exams. Easily saying my least favorite and unfair teacher ever. Pathetic

One of the worst teachers I have ever had. Wont give you clear answers on what she wants from you in papers and tests then will mark you down because "its not what she wanted" even though its 100% correct. No grading guidelines just expects you to know.. also is more concerned on your grammar and syntax than your English teacher ever will be.

Professor Buffton loves history and lecturing, but she doesn't care if you don't care. If you're not a history snob, avoid taking her. She would catch students zoning out and question them in front of the whole class for 10+ minutes. One time I got a 70 on an essay and she still gave me an F. Also, expect to read 25-75 pages a week.

Expecting this class to be fun, but she made it awful. Decent person, horrible professor. Lecture heavy and strict grading. Expects you to only answer in her way, and if you don't, good luck getting an A. I did a paper exactly how it was asked and got a B. Three papers total, one is an 8-10 page research paper. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

If you have literally any other option than her I suggest you take it. She has VERY specific requirements for the three papers you have to write, and no matter how good of a writer you are if you're missing a single thing your grade will be destroyed. Her topics are interesting, but the way she teaches them is beyond dry. Do NOT take her!

Dr. Buffton is very knowledgable on the topic of history, but has a hard time conveying a clear message of what she wants from you on assignments. Very tough grader, with little to no feedback. Reading assignments almost every day. She loves to call on unprepared students, just to put them on the spot in front of the class.

Most boring lectures you will ever experience. Average amount of homework, but she grades fairly for most assignments.

Every day was a lecture. The class is entirely based on three papers, two of which I know the average was D's and C's. This class is incredibly difficult, lowers your GPA, and relies so heavily on lectures that you may as well not even bother writing the papers if you zone out for five minutes (which is easy to do).

If you're a bad writer don't take this class. She gives C's to majority of the class for all papers.

I thought I was taking a history class but instead it felt like a second English class. I am a strong writer and never received over a B/C on the papers she assigned. There is a reason she has the lowest overall Rate My Professor score for all professors at UWL. If you have the chance to take another professor, I STRONGLY recommend you do

Her lectures were boring, her papers were graded very harshly, and I did everything she asked for and got an AB, I dont know how. I participated every class too. She doesnt do anything online and grades partially on participation so no one knew their grades until after semester was over. Would grade negative if I could.

Absolutely avoid at all costs. She grades heavily on participation, but then ROASTS the students who speak up. She doesn't use Canvas, at all. Everything is on paper so good luck ever knowing what your grade is. One of the rudest people I've ever encountered.

The most obnoxiously strict professor Ive ever had. She does not allow you to go to the bathroom during class. Give the most unhelpful lectures and then tests you on things you have not talked about in class. I would not recommend her to anyone. Only take her if you have to.

Worst professor I've ever had. During the Coronavirus epidemic she didn't use Canvas, instead she emailed the assignments. On the assignment sheet she didn't include the research paper that was due, so many students missed it. Not helpful when I asked for help.
