Ms. Damon is overall a clear teacher in math. I suck at math but she made it look easy. She's very helpful and she gives study guides to help you for midterms. Hands down best professor. If your not good at math then take her. I got an A.
Very helpful when needed!
She has been an amazing and helpful professor this semester! Her spirits are always high and her teaching is very helpful. If ever you need clarification, feel free to ask! She's always willing to go over whatever it is that you need help with. She assigns hw that will be due in a week, but it's easy! I highly do recommend her.
she was a nice teacher, around 30 questions a week of homework, hard to understand at times, overall i would recommend her
The only difficult part of this class is having to show up because her class is really boring and SLOW. She makes you do in class assignments and your grade on them make up the participation portion of your grade.
She is very nice but her examples are copied right out of the book. She gives at least 30 questions for every homework. Teaches many things after giving the homework, the book is very useful!!
Good teacher. Not very hard. Recommended.
Do all your homework and make sure you study for the quizzes. The midterm and final exam are all base on the review sheet she hangs out so make sure you know how to do the problems from the review sheet. She explains stuff really well. Even tough class is not mandatory, its best to attend because you can understand the concepts a lot better.
She is a GREAT teacher. We have quizzes every week but its in you favor because it forces you not to slack in class. The homework is wileyplus but its not as bad as you think. GREAT GREAT teacher!
She is a great teacher. i enjoyed taking her class. its not very difficult. homework is given every class but she explains it very well. theres a quiz every week. the midterm covers everything you learned from the first couple chapters, she does a review where you could go to ask help on problems you didn't understand. get a cheat sheet on the fina
Deborah is one of the most uninspiring "lecturers" at SFSU. She is only a grad student and it shows. She shows up to class usually late and teaches as if she just woke up. She confuses herself getting lost in the problem and sometimes doesn't finish solving;confusing students. She sets a bad example of professionalism mixing personal life with work
She is a good teacher, very organized, she knows what she's doing, and if you have a problem she'll always answer. Math wise.
Great teacher, explains the reasoning behind the math in an easy to understand format.
Took her Stat class at USF. It is true she doesn't really care, but if you put in effort you can definitely get an A. The tests aren't that hard if you know what you doing. She is decent at teaching but if you get behind you might be in trouble. Attendance wasn't necessary. Homework only due once a week. She drops your lowest test score.
She is the worst Math teacher ever, She never helps you at all and always responds with rude, sarcastic comments. Do not take her class, you will regret it.
Comes off as pretentious and degrading. Puts too much emphasis on group work.
Deborah Damon is easy when I was in her class for Math 60. She doesn't seem super strict. Be in class on time with the textbook, take notes as it will become useful and study the notes as well as the practice questions.
Keeping in mind that 1. I hate math/stats/numbers and 2. I had taken AP Stats in high school, Damon was actually a decent teacher. It's true, she comes across as though she may not care, but it's clear she knows her subject. Broke down the lessons very well; just make sure you take notes. For me, I feel that studying her notes got me to pass.
Though she isn't an awful teacher she often has issues with clarity. At least once a class she will write an entire problem on the board and at the end realize she either wrote down the wrong problem or made a mistake.
She explained the concepts very well and the quizzes and homework were very much like the tests. Great class. Want to take her for Math 227
She is a good professor that cares for her students. Taught the material with detail and clarity. If you get lazy you can fall behind so always make sure you know what she is explaining. Ended up with a B+ but I'm sure i could of got an A if I pushed myself a bit more. I must admit I had a crush on her, that's probably why I always paid attention.
No books needed. She is very extremely picky about how the homework is presented. Every answer has a why and how component. She does not like you to show your work which is why you have to be really good at explaining in words. I improved on that a lot. Show up & do the work, you will pass.
Homework is tough, but it is 40% of grade. Must turn it in, which is how she checks for participation. If you don't pay attention, and do extra work at home (at least 3-6hrswk) you will have a hard time. Ask for help! Office hours are available and do work in groups to help each other. Elementary school thinking and new core standards.
She is clear in her lectures and will answer questions during them. She was there for those who needed her during her office hours, which was not needed for most. Class usually ended on time, if not early. She did not have mandatory homework, since it was online. I wish she was teaching math 227
HORRIBLE teacher ever. Never taking a class with her again! Homework is hard and she is a very hard grader. She does not help at all!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND HER!
Deborah is a tough grader and makes you work for your grade!! However, she is always available to help students. If you stay on top of the material you will do great.
Fantastic calculus teacher. Clear, kind, entertaining and to the point. Concepts are presented simply and without too many frills, and she does a great job of cutting the fat from the material to show you the useful parts. I'd take a class with her again in a heartbeat. I am not great at math, but I got a B with a reasonable amount of work.
One of the best math teachers I've ever had, and the most brilliant professor I have had in my life. She is incredibly clever and has a genuine appreciate for math. She combines genuinely wanting her students to succeed, with not taking and BS beautifully. I'm now in Calc 2 and it feels so easy because she taught me everything so clearly. Take her.
She definitely has an affinity for math. She's not a very skilled teacher for her difficulty and is very discouraging and harsh towards her students. The people who do well in her class tend to be those who have already taken calculus before. I wouldn't recommend her.
She is an amazing calc teacher. Yeah she may have tough midterms, but i learned a lot from her. Her lectures are destined to show us a lot of practice and make it easy for us to understand.
This class was pretty tough, but she is an amazing teacher. She really tries her best to explain it all and definetly succeeds. I haven't done so well in a math class in a very long time. Weekly homework quizzes, two midterm, a final. Always at her office hours willing to help. Great teacher.
Deborah Damon is an amazing teacher in the aspect that she's there for you. However, her class is pretty challenging and you most likely won't pass class if you skip. The material taught in class is very helpful for doing the homework, and reflects on the homework quizzes. Midterms are tough so study.
The tests are tough- you need to know the concepts really well if you want to pass. She's very clear when she teaches and as long as you attend lecture and pay attention, you should be fine.
I felt intimidated first going into a calculus class but she made it very clear and simple to understand. Did have to do a bit of studying to get a good grade on tests.
I had this teacher for Calculus I. Without her, I don't think I would have understood Calculus. When I took it in senior year of high school, I barely passed the class. With her, I got an A for my final grade. She is good at explaining the math and very comprehendible. She is the best math teacher I have ever had.
Her class is tough and fast paced but she explains the material very well. She gives homework quizzes once a week and homework due twice a week. The questions on the quizzes are very similar to the questions you do for homework. Midterms are fairly simple and conceptual. Go to class every day and pay attention to the lecture and you'll be fine.
Great teacher. If you take her she will teach you calc the right way. You will actually learn the material. With that said it is a hard class but if you study and work hard definitely doable. I recommend her if you need a solid foundation in flag take her.
Took this class over the summer and was definitely a lot of work. 8 weeks filled with material and it moves fast. Professor is awesome at providing extra help. Do the hw and you will do good on the exams.
Deborah is a great math teacher and she made me really learn and think. She is kinda mean at first but you get used to it after a while. Homework every class that does not take long. 3 major tests and quizzes every Friday. Hard grader
I really recommend taking her class if you've struggled in math in the past. She explains everything very clearly and makes sure you get it. All the homework she assigns is very affective as long as you do it! If you take good notes and do all the homework assignment's you will pass. She has a quiz every Friday, two mid terms, and a final.
There is online homework 3 times a week. Every M, W, and F homework is due before class on Pearson. If you miss an assignment you get a zero. She said you don't have to show up to class because you're an adult. Goes off on tangents during class that have nothing to do with the material. Extra on study guides, makes you study stuff that isnt on test
A solid teacher for Linear Algebra. Come to class, take lots of notes, and pay attention. The homework assignments take work and time, so don't cram it all in one night. She grades hard but offers ample partial credit if you really show your work on exams. Her homework grading policy is bad but that is okay. You make it up by doing well on exams.
Read the text and do your homework before lecture to get the most out of the class, as it forces you to understand concepts well enough to do the homework and then lecture really reinforces things well. If you're a maths major (or a cs student interested in ml) I recommend finishing the book over break as math 325 does not cover nearly enough.
Prof. Damon is the best instructor I've ever had. She was also my instructor for Math226. She is extremely patient, very professional and organized. She is able to explain the course in the simplest way possible and she takes her time explaining every topic. She is always open to all questions, she is respectful and has a positive attitude.
FINALLY I UNDERSTAND MATHS. THE BEST PROF EVEEEEEEER
Deborah is the worse DS110 at STATE. Do not take her. She doesn't care nor is she helpful. When you do ask her for help she gives you a smart response. She isn't patient and is very selfish. Avoid her
I have taken Deborah for Calc1, Calc2, and Linear Algebra and I must say she is the best Math professor at state. Her lectures are amazing and she really explains everything clearly, and yes she is super nice. The people that gave bad reviews are lazy and didn't study... If you show up, listen, study hard, you will understand and easily get an A.
Deborah is really clear about what she wants from you and even gives you lots od advice too. Calculus subject is hard in general, but I can trult see how motivated she is as a teacher to want to help students do better. Ive never seen a teacher try so hard, and its great. I recommend going to class every class and also making sure you do your hw
I took this course as a compressed Summer course and it was a great course. She was very clear about her expectations and clear about her lectures. She gave lots of examples and responded well to questions. I'm so glad I took Linear Algebra with her.
Im currently taking business calc and she has been more than helpful. She explains everything efficiently and I continuously find myself enjoying my hw
Really dislike that she blocks the board with her body and quickly erases problems on board . Many students will try to take a pic bc she erases fast, if she catches you she will call you out. Attendance/Tardies matter (will lose pts. check in on ilearn) Quiz almost every week. HW is all online. She isn't too difficult but she's moody!
Ms Damon was an extremely nice professor, however because of the short time she had to cover a lot of material, many thought she was rude and mean. She moves fast, and makes sure to ask you to come to office hours if you don't understand something. She doesn't like it when people are late or are absent so go to class and take good notes.
Rude. I disliked her with a passion, her personality as a whole was outright terrible. I did not like the way she treated students and how she would talk to them in her unique sarcastic tone. I do think we was a good teacher, but not the best person.
Expert professor and such a great math teacher. Couldn't complain. She explains things clearly and explains things better than ever before in terms of all the past math teachers I've had.
This was, hands down, the best math class Ive ever taken. Professor Damon is an amazing teacher and I learned so much. This isnt a class you can succeed in by doing the bare minimum; youre expected to put in the effort. If youre unwilling to do that, then she isnt the professor for you. Ignore reviews that say shes rude or disrespectful.
I regret taking this class with this professor. People around me would ask her something & still wouldn't understand but wouldn't want to ask her again because she seems to get frustrated easily. She calls you out if you walk in late. Classwork every class & is locked w/a password she gives you. Yells if you don't know the info from prereq classes
I'm not sure why there are negative reviews. She's very nice and thorough with explanations, along with being more than happy to answer questions. Guess it depends on the specific class
Prof. Damon will always be one of my favorite math professors. She prepared me so well for MATH 370, and really helped me understand my mathematical capabilities. I'd recommend her to everyone taking 301GW. It's a hard class, but if you put the work in, it's incredibly rewarding.
10/10 recommended. One of the best professors at sfsu. Professor actually takes the time to teach and explain to us. If her class is open I repeat do not lose out.
Professor Damon is the best math teacher I have ever had. Her explanations were simple and thorough. I took her Business Calc class over the summer and her lesson plans were clear and concise. The same with her grading. You won't be disappointed.
There are quizzes every week. and if your overall quiz grade isn't 70% or above then u r not passing the class(drops two lowest quizzes). Two homework assignments every week. And there is mostly classwork every class which is in group. There are about two to three projects which are mandatory to pass class. work load is crazy
knows class is struggling and purposely make things harder she drop 2 lowest grade of quizzes and classwork but classwork and homework doesnt matter b/c shell fail u if u do bad on quizzes even if u have high grade
Inconsiderate professor. Doesn't care about students' situations during the pandemic and is very strict. Has 3 projects that you have to complete over the course of the semester. Has a large workload as well.
Very organized class but really hard in my opinion. Only 20 minutes for the quizzes which is really stressful and not enough time. She can be intimidating. I studied my but off but the quizzes were still too hard to pass.
ok, Worst and selfish professor ever! She does not care what the students are going through during pandemics. I had 68% and if I had only 70% I would have passed. However, she did not give me any chance. Understandable, but, I took her class again because I failed. She just changed my quiz grade to 0 because I was not present for whole zoom session
I never felt so upset having to write a review for Dr Damon, she is very inconsiderate when it comes to submitting projects that require everything in 1 file online, since she refuses to be accepting. Also the quizzes are tough and only given 20 minutes to complete to pass the class. There are 3 projects, quizzes, and hw given. Not the best person.
Don't trust the reviews I'm telling yall she has no remorse. If you miss anything for any reason you will get a zero, shes also very rude and petty. Thought she would be a good professor because of these reviews but was very disappointed
Does a small participation quiz that counts as attendance. Doesn't make anyone talk in class and will do all the work herself. Uses webassign. A little boring IMO. Also many people didn't finish second midterm due to the amount of questions on her exam. Don't get her started on changing fractions to decimals.
If you show up to class and pay attention you will pass this class. The professor teaches you everything you need to know to be successful in the class. No surprises! Best part it was enjoyable too!
I loved Prof Damon's calc 2 class. After trying to take calc 2 with other profs that had very rigid teaching styles and hating it, I found Prof Damon's teaching style refreshing. Her teaching focuses on helping you understand the big picture rather than just memorizing formulas, which I really appreciated. I hope to take her again in the future.
This class was okay just do your work and you should be fine
she's an excellent instructor for 325. read the texts book and study her lecture problems and you will be fine. the quizzes and midterms are mostly from the homework question. drops the lowest quiz and the lowest midterm. my only issue is that she doesn't provide the lecture's solutions even tho she only needs to upload it after the class.
She is a very good professor, her teaching style is very good. However, she is very strict; quizzes are relatively easy but the amount of time that she gives you to do them it's just not enough sometimes. Homework it is easy if you know what you are doing but she only gives you 3 tries for each problem which is stupid.
Honestly, I could've easily gotten an A if I wasn't shy going to her office hour. Don't procrastinate till the last day to do the HW or you will struggle finishing them. I wish she provided some video recordings from her pervious semesters because there were many instances were I didn't understand a topic and wished it was explained to me again.
Lectures began pretty slow but picked up the pace quickly, gave useful examples to work off of and used a MyOpenMath for pretty much everything, some of the problems were more difficult than what was show in class but gave us ~100 attempts a problem so not a big issue, was a good experience and she'll do her best to help you understand the content
Finishing up MATH 227 with Dr. Damon this week. Dr. Damon's expectations are clear and grading is consistent throughout the entire semester. Tip: Brush up on basic derivatives, trig, and integrals. If you miss a class, ask a classmate what you missed or ask in office hours, don't ask her what we went over as there are only 50 minutes per lecture.
Very underrated prof. She goes through each section very thoroughly and everything she teaches reflects in the homework. as longas you review her notes and do the homework you'll do perfectly fine, just rememebr to review basics of calculus beforehand.
Everything is laid out in the syllabus ahead of time. She's an amazing lecturer and great at gauging interest in the units we cover. I would recommend taking her to anybody who is interested in math and is ready to do the work to get there ( the homework can be a bit of work at times).
No exceptions or sympathy for issues or trouble outside of the class, no extra time, credit, or support will be given. Her office hours are just a one-on-one session with the same issues. Visibly getting upset when students answer incorrectly or take too long to provide an answer. Does not seem driven to actually educate and pass students.uwillfail
just dont take it with her
Professor Deborah Damon has to be the most merciless professor I have ever met. Her lectures may be good and detailed but don't let that fool you. Once she goes over a topic, she will NOT go over it again. She will NOT explain a topic she went over in the past in class. Save yourself some time and pass on this professor. Do not trust the reviews.
Don't take her if you want to actually learn linear algebra. Quizzes with little time; forced to use an online calculator. Students who tried solving by hand couldn't solve on time. May give a problem that can't be solved with a calculator. Embarrasses students and is rude. Don't use Zoom app on phone, can't access poll quizzes or retake them.
I had her for diff eq's after struggling in CALC 2 & 3, but did very well because her lectures are so easy to understand. I loved the way her homeworks are set up- 1-2 due per week and start out simple with explanations for each step. Can't say enough good things about her, really wish I could've taken her for my previous math courses!
Professor Deborah Damon has to be the most merciless professor I have ever met. But she is also the best math teacher I have yet to met! Through my years of taking math, she is the best! There won't be a day where you leave class feeling like you didn't learn anything. Be ready to do lots of practice and studying if you want to do well.
Professor Damon's lectures are straight forward, thorough, and easy to follow along. However, she is very condescending if you don't understand something and doesn't let her students have room for mistakes. If you ask a question, she will be rude and will act like you weren't paying attention. She does not create a positive learning environment.
I self taught myself differential equations before the course but I didn't know any linear algebra, so I can tell you that she sucks at teaching the stuff that even I already knew. The homework was pretty easy, but you're better off teaching yourself everything because she can't explain anything properly, the exams have stuff that we barely covered
Although shes a little tough I think shes one of the best professors at the school. This is the one class I never missed and actually payed attention to. To be fair its because you had to but I felt like I was actually learning lol. She has really good notes as long as you follow her requirements shes a engaging, good teacher. Midterm and Final
Complains way too much. Lacks a healthy teaching environment. I believe her positive ratings come from those that just understood the material and didn't care how she spoke to other students. If you'r'e learning this course for the first time, stay away!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Class attendance was quizzes everyday, usually 3-5 questions but some questions would be something random from the chapter. We had to read the chapter by ourselves, take the quiz, AND THEN learn it in class. Homework took forever to do. I recommend being in a study group. She's extremely rude to students and talks very condescendingly.
great teacher! lectures are crystal clear, does lots of examples. drops lowest exam score, gives late passes for homework, posts lecture notes, don't have to buy a book. the Zoom option for fridays saved me a lot of commute time. she answers questins in office hour, but honestly you wont need to go because her lectures are so clear.
this is my second class with her and I would take more if I could. She's organized and lectures are really clear with many examples. groupwork during class to practice. Homework is online with late passes. 4 exams and drops the lowest, so if you do good on first 3 exams you dont have to take the final!
Class is "flipped" so you need to do the reading before coming to class, Easy quizzes based on the reading at the start of each class. book is free. Easy grading - only need 50% for a C and 71% for a B. Material is hard (its prep for upper division math) but her office hours are great and she really helps you write your proofs.
super easy if you go to class and do the homework. she goes really slow and lectures are clear. patient and willing to answer questins . exams have multiple choice and problmems are like homework. lecture notes are on myopnemath if you miss class. she does take attendance but its not part of grades.
This is my third class with her. I've taken calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations and she has been a great teacher each time. Really organized and clear. Highly recommend,
it my own fault im not passing bc i missed lot of class but shes a good teacher so i sined up to take it again with her. go to class!!!!!!
Very good Professor. If you want to succeed, do the homework and attend the lectures. Provides everything you need to do well in the class. Material is decently difficult, don't be afraid to ask questions. Exams are okay as long as you try to study. She gave extra credit if you participated and attended lectures at the end!
If your planning on taking Linear Algebra at SFSU pick Professor Damon. She has a complete mastery of the subject and its evident in her lectures. All units are explained thoroughly with examples. Attendance is scored but is worth 0% of your grade. Weekly homeworks with plenty of late passes. You would have to try to fail this class.
Attendance isn't mandatory but it is in your best interest to attend. Professor does a great job of explaining the material through examples. She was probably the most FAIR professor I've ever encountered.
