taught her class like as if everyone were pol. science majors. Acts as if she is a matron mother instead of a teacher. When asked a question she said find out from your fellow students.
Very boring class, avoid if at all possible.
This lady is HORIBLE! She doesnt make any sense and it doesnt seem like she keeps on track to well.
Doesn't use the book at all, so everything is lecture form. She was very sarcastic which was funny sometimes, encourage classroom discussion. Grades your final as if she is an English professor, I got a "B" and it was covered in red ink anyway.
Her teaching style is boring and her tests are SUPER HARD!! She will make tests that take more time than 50 mins and she will be 10 mins late! So you have only 40 mins to complete an 80-100 question test!!! This class was the worst class ever.
This class is easy if you have half of a brain. I'm a freshman, who doesn't study and even I have an A. Her notes are on an overhead so they are easy to take, and her test come directly from those. I would recommend her class. Only bad point is the fact that she is a republican(I believe)
Professor Ferrell-Lynn holds interesting class discussion and lectures, fairly appropriate for the topic at hand. Her test essay grading is somewhat odd however, and while she makes good faith attempt to be politically fair, her personal bias is still visible to the observant.

This chick is fun for discussion but tough as nails when it comes to papers and grades like an English professor. If you're an english major and need an elective, take this class. If not, don't.
having taken upper division 3000and4000 lvl classes (and making A's in them), i thought her 1000 class would be a breeze. i was wrong. Class is not difficult, but it seemed more like an A&G class when its not supposed to be. she grades really tough on the essays. the book was worthless.
Oh my goodness, all I'm preachin is participate, and often, which doesn't mean just show up, because with her that's not good enough. Political Science majors have at it, other majors stay far, far away; don't waste an elective because she's tough. She was way to difficult for an elective class!
Difficult class. Not recommended. Tried to even monitor what you wore to class (as far as t-shirt slogans, etc.)
I liked her class alot. It was interesting and kept me into it. Her grading on papers was extremely strict and her test are all essay format with like 5 questions, but the study guide has like 20 essay questions so you have to study and do all of them to get the test. but its not a bad class TAKE IT
Very informative teacher. As long as you read the book and come to class there shouldn't be a problem. I want to take her again if she teaches a class I need.
Grading on essays and tests is terrible. I received a test with no explanation for deductions. Her excuses abound for procrastination of grading. She said we have to cite outside sources ON TESTS to get an A. If you're not going to promote Republican views, you WILL NOT get a good grade.
She has discrimination. If you are not "American", don.t take the class. it is not hard to American, but it is so hard in international students. she always say your english is not good enough and if your answer is not exactly correct,she will give "0" in this question.

This is one of the worst classes I have ever taken. You must check your syllabus often because she will not tell you when anything is due. Whenever you have a question about the material, instead of answering it herself, she makes another student answer it. She can be very rude in class.
This class was ridiculously hard for a freshman level class!! I only wish someone would have warned me before I signed up for her governemnt class. Unless you love politics and want to spend hours studying and researching avoid taking Government wth her at all costs!!

The grading criteria is almost entirely subjective, at least 50% of the course should have an objective criteria. The course consists of three 2 page essays with at least 4 sources, pop quizzes and lengthy essay tests. The instructor provides very good lectures. It has been my most difficult sub
she was horrible. if you weren't republican and so much as raised a question you would get deducted points, and she preaches about how she isn't biased. she won't answer any question you ask, she will ask another student, or tell you to look in the syllibus. Also, you won't have idea about due dates
I don't see why there are many negative comments. Granted this is a challenging class, as long as you participate and do the work you'll be fine. She knew a lot about the subject which is good even if you're not a Political Science major, i'm not and I got an A...
True the class was hard, but she is a very knowledgable about her subject. She is passionate about politics, which made me interested in it...at least during class. I recommend her if you actually want a challenge.
I had this professor during a night class. She was very laid back and funny. I don't know if it was my class or the fact that it was the last class of the day, but the class was awesome. I learned a lot and had a blast. I read that she grades difficult... but if you read the syllabus and understand what she wants then you will not have a problem. Tests are a bit long if you aren't used to essay tests. Over all great professor and class!
This professor was very arrogant would not answer any students questions. She claimed to not be biased but taught in a biased way (especially towards President Bush). I just had this prof last semester, I made an A, but it was definitely not an easy A! The class was challenging, but the prof was good. I read all the chapters, attended class regularly and took detailed notes. The tests are long and hard, but can be done, if you read the book and pay attention. She also expects a lot out of the issue essay.
I found it hard to pass her class in which I didn't. I made detail notes and paid very close attention. Test on very LONG. Class notes do not help you on her test either. Many essay questions on test as well. If you do not make yourself clear in an essay or on her paper you are graded poorly. Test questions are tricky in wording. Becareful!!
she's the worst teacher i've ever had, even through high school. first of all government sucks, and she doesn't make it any better by putting something wack on the board thats not even on the test then expects you to go home and read the chapter. she grades your papers and essay questions like its comp 1. do yourself a favor and don't take her!
She is very hard! She grades papers 10 times harder than english profs. She is impossible to please on essays. Her tests are almost impossible to get done and she tries very hard to make them oddly worded/ horribly hard! Do not take her!
She is the meanest teacher I have ever had. I can not believe I got into her class before checking on here. I studied, took notes, and I am a good student and still got a d in her class. I had an A in Comp I and Comp II and she gave me F's on my position papers. Her takes are impossible to finish within the hour its crazy.

She was hard on the papers, but didnt explain clearly how to do it. i write A papers with ease, and all my papers got f's. the lectures dont apply, and no matter how you study, you wont get the test. she tries harder to make you think she's funny than a good teacher. keep your political views to yourself, especially if you're liberal.
Very hard! I did pass her class with a C though.. She actually gave me a B- on my paper but it was the highest grade. Tests are close to impossible. She asked "who did what" once and didn't ask why. I only put down the name and she counted it wrong because I didn't say why. Don't try to negotiate with her either!

This teacher expects your life to be Govn.Her lectures have seemingly nothing to do with the tests or the book. There are 4 tests (including the final) but they are EXTREMELY hard. As are the papers.Expect to ingrain in your brain Govn on your own. I took this class and probably spent a good 15 hours per week on the homework.I made a C.
Her class is extremely hard. You have to study for everththing. And spend at least 2 hours a day watching or studying government or just make it your life. Her Study guides and tests are extra long and HARD. Shes not easy but shes is nice. If you are not prepared to study then dont take her.
Take good notes, read the textbook,study, and keep up with current events and you should do ok. Many chances for extra credit. Requires an "issue paper" which is worth about 10% of your grade. I didn't write the paper and still ended up with a very high B.

The prior reviews on this teacher are not qualified. If you do your work, and pay attention in class you will do well. She gives study guides for every chapter, and she is quite fair in her views. If you are interested in Government i would HIGHLY recommend taking her. As a person she is very nice. If youve done poorly you will say bad things.
Very one sided. I am in my junior year and took her my freshman year. Worst teacher I have had so far. She will grade papers as if you have never written paper, and they do not make any sense to her. She likes to directly quote the book for the test, and it will be random things. Very hard to understand what she is trying to communicate. Good luck.
tests are hard, she gets off subject every class, once she finally gets on subject it ends up not helping one bit cuz there is never anything on the test that she mentions. she gives out study guides but those are just as hard to complete as the tests are. save yourself dont take her.

First day of school she asked if anyone was a pol science major, and no one raised their hands, so she said she'll go easy on us. Total lie! She was teaching us as if we were gov geniuses and the tests were ridiculous! We did more essays in her class than I did in my eng classes! And she graded them as if she was a dang grammer teacher. Where do i begin with her, she is terrible. Her lectures were pointless and irritating. She expects more than any normal prof. would. I got an A but it wasn't easy. Study for her test and read the book its much more helpful than she is.
She is very bias. She speaks at a very high intellectual level, and at a very past pace. Her opinion is what is right, and that is how she grades your two page paper she assigns weekly. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! if you do you will have a hard time. I usually get good grades on essays, but in her class, she grades them worse than an English teacher would. She doesn't give grades out, and students are too scared to ask questions becuase she WILL humiliate you.

Seems like a nice person outside of class. In class, she's a little scary, but bearable. The study guides are the only help for tests. We didn't really talk about anything on the tests much in class. Papers are graded poorly. She seems like she wants to be an English teacher too, but half the things she marks aren't even correct. Not a great class.

The course had some difficult content. She is really tough on essays so don't just blow them off. BUT I've never learned so much in a gov. class. She is really entertaining and crazy smart. At the end of the semester we got bonus points just for showing up. If you read the book its an easy A.
I am a conservative as well but she is an awful teacher who is not helpful at all. She also has no comprehending of how to grade an essay at all (I am an English major). This course is not taught like the Intro class it is and she tells us to take notes but her notes are disjunctive and make no real sense. Just random words and drawings.

Her notes are very scattered and hard to understand. Hardly any notes taken were on the test. Also, shes grades our essays VERY hard...Worse than an English professor. The exams also have 5-6 short answer questions. BEWARE
First let me start of by saying she isn't the worst teacher, but she is very scattered and she is not helpful when you need her to be. If you email her with a simple question she complicates it, if you write an essay for her class she grades like a nazi. Her sylabus becomes your bible, you must abide by it, and you must read it. She has no mercy.
Why all the hate for Ferrell-Lynn? Her class might not be the easiest, but you WILL learn. Focus on the essay questions in the study guide and you will do fine on her tests. The only bad thing is that it's like she wants to be an English teacher with all of the markings she puts on research papers. But I would still recommend taking her class.
A few things to consider: 1. Don't take this professor if you aren't conservative. 2. Be ready to study beyond the necessary amount for a freshman level class. She is really fun during lectures, but she is very rude when it comes to one on one conversations. She is extremely intimidating and unapproachable. Her expectations are very high.

I can not believe that she walked out on us? There were some students who should not have fallen asleep. But it was boring, why take it out on entire class, and why give up on us!

I really enjoyed this class. Her test were kind of hard, she gives you a study guide (It is not word for word you have to look up the answers and understand the concept) and if you do it it will help you on the test! If you do no like to study, take notes, or do short essays do not take her! I loved her, and earned my grade.
I really enjoyed her and her class! She really knows what she is talking about and if you do her study guides then the tests are a piece of cake,lowest I got was a 94! Be careful on your letter to Congress. Otherwise, take her she is great!
For the most part, Ferrell-Lynn is a great professor. She can seem a little rude and impatient at times when she feels like no one is putting effort into the bonus point assignments but other than that, I really liked her. There are 4 tests and they have long essay questions on them that do require thought and effort but the final is mult. choice.
Took her last semester, she is not as bad as some students say. Some days she was easy and nice, other days, she was hard and rude. Think she really tries, maybe too hard, and then got frustrated at us. If you have her, come to class and do the work, you will do well.
This is a challenging professor. Her notes can be hard to follow sometimes and she grades pretty hard on all assignments. Her tests are OK, she gives you essay questions ahead of time so DO THEM and you will get B or higher on the test. Even if your not good at taking tests (multiple choice) spend time writing the essay questions before the test!

If you like to read the chapters and study for 6+ hours for the test, you will do fine. She does give a study guide, but there are additional info on the test from the book. And she doesn't tell you that. She will not accept your paper if it isn't stapled right. AVOID HER!

Do not listen to all the whiners rating Prof. Ferrell-Lynn! I had absolutely no interest in government and I was never bored in her class! There is work but she offers several extra credit assignments and study guides for every test. The only work I did for this class was complete the study guides along with the short answers and I received an A!

I absolutely loved her. I met with her at the beginning of class and she helped me decide I would like to be a PoliSci major. Her study guides prepared you better for the tests than any other class I have taken. All you have to do is read and answer the study guide questions, all the short answer questions are answered in class.
She is very all over the place. She will turn any lecture into her life story and then right before dismissal jots a few things down on the bored pertaining to class. I would NOT suggest anyone take her and I wouldn't take her again myself.
Very hard. Do not take. Get out when you can. Talks about random topics. She talks the WHOLE hour. Usually does not let you out until class is over. Test are extremely hard and she does not really take any other grades. Hardly on campus to have an appointment for her. READ READ READ your chapters!

She lectures the whole class period, so if you do not have any interest in government at all, I advise to you choose another professor. Very disappointed with the class. Very confusing. READ the book, even though some of the work doesn't relate to it at all. If you have a busy schedule, I don't recommend her class. Tons of work. I'm up for challenging classes, but hers is ridiculous. Lectures were not very useful and neither is the book for the online homework.
She does not teach, just goes off on information that is not testable, and makes it our responsibility to learn from what we read. Why come to class if she is not going to teach.
Literally all the bad reviews are from students who did not put any effort into the course. She gives study guides, bonus points on her 50 question exams, and you have 3 written assignments. She'll meet you during office hours to help you outline your written assignment! If you put effort into her class and go talk to her, you will do a lot better.

If you don't take VERY detailed notes and read the text then don't expect to do good. She does give a study guide, but it doesn't help that much. The questions are HARD.
I went in with a positive attitude about this class. This is a difficult class. Her study guides are not much help and she grades really hard on the essays. I even had help on my essays because I was getting low grades and it still was not enough. I worked hard but I ended with a C. If you can refrain from taking this class, do it!
She is very strict w attendance and phone use. Her study guides are of no help. She does allow late work, and redos but isn't very approachable. There are 3 tests, 1 paper, and 3 participation point assignments. No power points, just her talking and drawing non-relevant material on the white board.
Professor Ferrell-Lynn is trying to teach students professionalism, BUT she comes off as too harsh and uncaring. For example, when one student asked a question, she made a point of having the ENTIRE class answer it for her. And I had plenty of experiences myself that just left a bad taste in my mouth, and I respect her, but DO NOT RECOMMEND her.

I t made me upset because I did the assignment, i just forgot to print it out. I would NOT recommend this professor at all. She is probably the worst professor I ever had!

If you are taking her for government, don't expect to learn anything from her. She is very vocal about her opinions on politics and current events and her lectures are very bias towards the right. It's true her tests are hard. But as long as you go to every class, take good notes and read them over before the exam you will get an A. Also her paper is not that bad. She also gives extra credit.
Talks more about OU Athletics than what is going to be on the test, which is roundabout all we have going in the class toward our grades.

She is not the BEST teacher but you will make an A if you complete your assignments and show up to class. The papers are soooo easy and the test are easier. She gives you her outline for the notes she will take for you to fill in so the test are super EASY if you follow them.

I noticed that Ferrell-Lynn didn't have the best reviews, so I was nervous to take this class. But, she was AMAZING. She is one of my favorite professors that I've ever had. As long as you show up to class, take some notes, and do the study guides you WILL make an A. She even offers extra credit. She is honestly should consider being a comedian too
I took Prof. Ferrell-Lynn last semester and loved her! Sure, if you skip too much class you'll find it hard to pass. The tests aren't easy, but it's all information she's said in class (take notes) and you never have homework. She's flexible with retakes and she makes sure to keep lectures interesting by adding personal stories and jokes. TAKE HER!
An average teacher. Tests are way too hard even with only three choices for each question. Lectures are ok but pulls test questions from them that are not that important. Offers extra credit but grades it very strict which cuts down on your points. Did not cover all the info for the final but tested us on it anyway. Would not recommend.
She may be hard and have very strong opinions, but she is super credible and her material is solid. Show up everyday and she will up your grade. Abide by her tedious regulations and you'll pass.
I'm shocked to see that Deborah has such a low rating... I thought she was an amazing professor. She makes you work for your grade, but it is not hard AT ALL to finish with a B. She is hilarious and makes lectures as recent and interesting as possible. 10/10 professor in my opinion.
DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK! She says you'll need it but you won't be using it at all. Her class consists mostly of lectures in which she is not very open for discussion. The grades are based solely on exams because she doesn't give out too many assignments and she grades hard. Strictness, she will kick you out if you have phones or laptops, beware.
Prof. Ferrell-Lynn is hilarious and an excellent teacher. I enjoyed her style of teaching because I hate homework, which you wont have any of that. Dont buy the book. Study for the tests if you want but if you paid attention to National government in high-school youll be fine. Go to class and converse with her. Also, read the announcements.
Awful teacher. Wastes class time with her personal stories, and then gives exams that she has not prepared us. Very rude if we ask questions. Does not respect our opinions. Not the type of teacher I expect when paying tuition for an education.
Wish there were more small assignments instead of our grade being heavily dependent on how well you do on tests. Everyday consists of a lecture and lots of note taking, personally never really got anything out of her lectures.
At the beginning, hearing her share her own political experiences through the years was nice and really contributed to my love for politics. But the class overall? Awful. We werent able to share our own political opinions or experiences and CONTINUOUSLY shut down when we did try. IF youre taking her, dont buy the book. Just buy the access code.
I dont understand the ratings Prof. Ferrell-Lynn has. Yes, your grade depends heavily on exams, but if you study the study guides she gives you- the exams are easy! Pay attention to her in class, because some of the information she gives you will be on the extra credit portion of the tests. Shes a sweet lady who just expects you to do your work.
Ferrell-Lynn is the worst professor I have ever had. She does not use PowerPoints for her lectures and it is impossible to take notes. The writing assignment is graded harshly. There are no small assignments. The grade is based heavily on how you do on the tests, which are brutal. Her study guides are absolutely no help. Shes rude and not helpful
Prof. Farrell-Lynn is very clear with what she wants and leaves little room for confusion. Her tests are not the easiest and you will have to study if you want to pass. She is a very kind prof and she does want her students to succeed.
I think Prof. Ferrell-Lynn was a solid professor. She is picky about laptops open during class, as well as picky about the essay assignment that she gives. She offers plenty of extra-credit opportunities and other sources (such as tutoring). The book is not required. No quizzes, just bonus point opportunities.
Professor Ferrell-Lynn has been a tough professor and she makes you work for your grade. She does provide class notes and a lot of the test info comes from them so be prepared to save them! She has a good sense of humor but can come off as cold. She does care about her students. Show up to lecture and be ready to engage in discussions!
I did not enjoy this class at all. Every time I asked her a question she would just tell me that it is in the handbook even when I told her I could not find the information. Your grade is mainly based on the exams given and there is one homework assignment.

She is condescending, her lectures are worthless in the sense that everything she shows you in class are things you can easily do alone without paying money for her course. Take literally any other prof. you can. She is rude and doesn't answer questions without an attitude.
Avoid this professor at all costs. She is rude and aggressive with studentsasks for their opinions in class, but argues with them if they dont agree with her. Gets upset when students ask questions. Once spent half of class on an angry rant when a student asked if she could reopen a quiz. Constantly made offensive and insensitive comments.
I had prof ferrel-lynn during a difficult time in her life, so at the beginning I tired to give her the benefit of the doubt with the strict rules and such. but by the end of the semester this was definitely my hardest which was frustrating as its a core class and not towards my major. focuses more on current events than gov process and history
Until this point, I have not had one bad professor experience at UCO. She will straight up tell you not to contact her, making her extremely hard to contact outside of class, and would make you feel extremely dumb for asking questions. I consider myself to be a well rounded and flexible student but I would NOT take this class again.
If you sign up for Professor Ferrel-Lynn expect to walk into a class where the teacher doesn't use power points for lectures, a class where the teacher gets off topic a lot, a class with a 16 page syllabus, expect to walk into a class where you find it almost impossible to take notes. If that's what u want you got it. She does get credit for BPOs
This class made me regret my degree program. This professor is needlessly information heavy and will overwhelm you with emails about her personal opinions and TONS of news articles. I would not recommend. Don't do it to yourself.
She is wonderful! Class is easy if you pay attention and is very interesting. She doesn't deserve any of the bad reviews on here. In my class, students would ask completely ridiculous questions and then get upset when she moderately called them out. She's very informative, kind, funny, and welcomes legitimate questions.
Please do not take her class, her lectures are very off topic and will write random things on the board. Her notes are 10 pages and you basically have to teach yourself. Her SWA are very hard as well. She said she doesn't grade off grammar but she surely does and the rubric is confusing as well, don't try contacting her unless your email is perfect
I am pretty sure I'm gonna fail. final is next week. please do not take this class if you want a good GPA
Bad reviews are from people who dont take her seriously. Yes shes a tough grader, but she knows her stuff. Despite literally having cancer she pretty much lectured over all the material we were supposed to know, gave us extra notes, weekly announcemnets/deadlines. The people who stuggle in this class dont care about govenrment, pay attention!

She's so nice and her lectures are really interesting. If people stopped asking her so many dumb questions, the class would be a lot better.
Lectures can be hit or miss, but Professor Ferrell-Lynn is generally nice. Avoid asking unnecessary questions - that seems to bring out her irksome side. Use unstuck ai and the textbook to supplement learning, as the class can be challenging.
