This Dr. KNOWS her stuff! Highly experienced and extremely helpful. 251 is a HARD CLASS but this she makes it not so bad. Work hard and you'll earn your grade. And will someone teach her how to say "Nevada" correctly??? She's from TX, but God will forgive her for that. <grin> She's the best!!! Take her if you want to LEARN! Record her lecture too!
I really enjoyed Professor Harbours Classes. If you attend the classes you can't go wrong. She offers plenty of alternatives to different learning strategies that can be adhered by any type of learning students involving extra credit worksheets that will help you pass.
Dr. Harbour did a great job of explaining the material. Her printable lecture notes were very helpful. She is an epidemiologist by profession, so it was really interesting to hear her experiences with the diseases that we studied. She will give you a list of what you need to know for each chapter. Know the list and you'll likely get an A.
A very nice woman. You have a legitimate shot at an A with her. She is highly intelligent but gets frustrated very easily, don't take it personally.Be prepared Read the lab before class, most don't and she will take notice.Quizes are not difficult, if you don't understand the wording draw a picture or explain in your own words, she will accept that
Terribly unclear in her lecture. She knows her stuff, but cannot explain it without confusing half the class. I just read the book, and did not pay attention to her. There are in class quizzes in both lab and lecture now. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND UNLESS NO ONE ELSE IS OPEN!!!!
I took her for class and lab. This class is ok, but sometimes she's not good at teaching the class. There's extra credit but you gotta work for it! You definitely have to study! There are case-studies, online quizzes (TIMED, can only take once) WebCT is WAY TOO cluttered, there's WAY TOO MUCH STUFF there! It's better to take her for LAB than class
She was the most confusing teachers ever. Not helpful at answering questions, and forget following her lecture it doesnt match her test! She is not good at teaching at ALL!
She is very confusing, but really attempts to make the tests easy enough to get an "A" on. There is a lot of information thrown at you. If you understand the general concepts that goes a long way towards getting an "A". I think she is quite humorous in her own way and the lectures, while presenting a lot of information, were always interesting.
Had her for Lab. She is helpful and willing to help out. Come prepared and you will pass the quizes. She can be a little confusing...but just ask and she'll clarify. Other labs complained that she was mean and impatient with them...but I never saw it. She was ALWAYS very nice and helpful. She gave a review for both practicums that was helpful.
Dr. Harbour is extremely knowledgable and interesting in lecture. She gives so many different types of study guides and tools that it is unlikely that you will not find one of them that fits your learning style. She also gives extra credit. Her online quizes are hard but otherwise getting an A in her class is absolutly possible. Loved this class
She is the sweetest lady ever!! and if you ever need any help or something comes up you can always talk to her about it and she is very understanding. Great teacher.
great teacher - very helpful - highly recomend!!!!!!
Dr Harbour is great! I recommend her to anyone. She's a very sweet lady, she'll help whenever you needed it. Her exams aren't bad at all. In order to get good grades you really have to put your time for this class. She has different ways for you study. This class can only be tough if you make it out to be. It's up to you.
Love this teacher! I had her in lab, and just by studying off of the lab study guide, i did fine. quizzes are a fairly easy with her, as it is filling in the blanks, and a little multiple choice. Great teacher to go to if you need advice!!!
Did not like her at first because first two weeks go really fast with lots of information. After that, she was a favorite. Loved what she taught and how she taught. Accessible to students.
Dr. Harbour is extremely knowledgable in the subject of microbiology. She offers lots of handouts, online quizes, printed lectures outlines, printed power point slides, study guides and sometimes, she posts podcasts of the lectures. The information is challenging and you will have to study pretty hard but she gives you so many tools that you can't
Dr. Harbour was my favorite teacher this year. She can be quite confusing at times but she makes the class as easy as possible. She gives you everything to help you learn the material and you don't need the textbook. Really good teacher would recommend her to anyone. very interested and intelligent at this subject.
Shes was a good teacher. I very much enjoyed her lecture and her lab. She did a good job at going over the material and explaining it. She will ask questions to make sure you understand what she discussed. If she doesnt go over the material in class, than it will not be on the exams.
I just finished Dr. Harbour's class. I thought she was wonderful. She makes herself very accesible to students and gives online powerpoints, study guides, websites for animations. She cares about her students and knows her subject matter. Wonderful professor. I would take her again.
Nice teacher, test are not to hard but not easy either. Should have no problem passing the class with a C or B.
She is a great teacher. The material is difficult but understandable with a little bit of effort. Must keep up with information, otherwise you will be lost near the end. Must be able to pick the material to study cuz she gives lots of other information that is not tested on.
Took her for lab pretty good in teaching and makes lab interesting.
If you want a good grade for this class, DO NOT TAKE HER. She is very hard. She cuts points from everywere. If you dont belive my, take her and you will see.
She doesn't know how to teach. You better get ready to study on your own. You have to work very hard to pass her class. I don't recomand her to anyone.
Great teacher, easy class with her. Uses power points with all the notes needed for the test. Also will podcast her lectures. If you dont study the material you will fail. Thats not the instructors fault. Tests are easy multiple choice.
Must study. Tests are multiple choice. Very approachable and helpful during office hours. Gives quizzes to help know what will be on tests. Plan to take for 251. Wish she taught A&P! Can get frustrated at times but it's because she cares about students. If you are lazy you should not be taking sciences at all let alone Dr. Harbour.
I don't think the last two post were wrote by students. Her exams weren't easy that all. She is readying the slides in the class, she dosn't know how to explain anything.
The only reason I got such a good grade in this class was because I read the book and only went to class when we had tests or case studies. She is very confusing and extremely unapproachable. The one time I asked her a question she belittled me and made me feel like an idiot in front of the whole class, I never asked a question again.
taking her now. i chose her based on what people said about her, well they forgot to mention all the case studies you have to do, some are done in class as a group. then you have on-line quizes for every chapter, 1 point extra credit work for test. the exams are a little hard so study. But i would take her again if it was the only class i took.
hard class and a lot to take in but she really knows her stuff and targets things you need to know in the healthcare field. She gives lots of handouts and some chances for extra credit. lots of in class assignments and case studies- she gives everyone a fair shot of at least making a C- I made a B+. You can make an A but you have to work for it
She likes for you to show up for class but she understands. She was a delight to have as an instructor and she is so cute and funny. She is fair, will help you if you need it and I never bought the book; just read her notes, listen to her pod cast and anything else she puts in Angel. She'll have you doing case studies, the last one is in APA form
Amazing professor, gives extra credit, and is obviously very educated in the field of micro.. Very helpful & provides great podcasts. Got a B+. The people that failed either didnt go to class or did not put 100% effort into studying. Dr. Harbour is the best!
I took Dr Harbour's Biol 189 class over the summer. She was a fabulous professor and very willing to help every student.I'm not gonna lie, but this class is HARD! I studied for 3-4 hrs a day every day and got a B. Tests are a bit tricky but if you go to class every day and STUDY STUDY STUDY you will do ok.
Such a nice lady. I took notes in class and studied, then had a medical emergency and had a hard time but she was so nice and caring. I still got a C, but wouldve had an A if not for that. Makes class fun and interesting! Made me love Micro. HIGHLY recommend.
I took Dr. Harbour for Biol 189 over the summer (after failing with another Prof.) and ended up doing very well. The material is HARD and there is a TON to learn, but she makes it easy. She posts the lecture slides online so you can prepare and also does podcasts. She is very approachable and helpful. I look forward to her Micro class this fall!
Dr Harbour is a great instructor. When she saw some of her class needing help she took her time to add videos, made podcast, extra exercise everything you will need to succeed. The subject is hard, the Professor is great and does everything to help you pass. Not an easy "A" class, but she will do everything to help you pass.
I took Dr. Harbour for 189 and 251 She is the best professor ever!!! def take her!!!!
I took Dr. Harbour for both 189 & 251 and did well in both. She provides powerpoints, outlines and other study tools online and is helpful. She may seem harsh because she does get annoyed easily when interrupted but who doesn't?I learned SO much from her and I'm glad I had her. Wish I could take her more!
Very knowledgeable but she doesn't know how to share the knowledge so that others can understand. She is easily annoyed and hard to read, she doesn't really like to answer questions, and although she asks the class questions she doesn't usually like the answers. Study all the power points and and online material. It's not hard to get at least a B.
You should definitely take Mrs.Harbour!I took her both for microbiology lab and lecture. You can really tell she is passionate about teaching so she makes learning fun and she can be funny at times. Another great thing about her class is that you don't have to purchase the textbook.Read the PowerPoints and come to class, you'll do great!
Loved her! She gives you everything you need to succeed in her class, all you need to do is attend the lectures and lab and don't miss any assignments. She is so awesome.
Excellent professor; teaches & understands the subject; always available; encourages students to push themselves; prepare to put in effort; doesn't like slackers.
Professor Harbour is an awesome teacher! She is always well prepared and helpful. She gives lots a opportunities for extra points to help your grade. Handouts and online quizzes that prepare you for exams. She is so knowledgeable about the subject and adds humor too! I wish other biology teachers were more like her.
Was a hard class, Prof. Harbour did everything she could to help achieve a passing grade. Puts lectures, power points, notes, pod-cast, etc, all online. Does not follow in the book, I used it to help understand some concepts, but she does not test out of it. You have to put in the work and STUDY HARD to get a good grade.
She has so many materials and very confusing all her lectures. Slides, lectures, books and some website...
preferred her honor students to the normal students and I am sure put more effort into instruction with those students too, If you work and understand the basis of what she tests on you can get a passing grade but dont look for much in class instruction lab on other hand was a blast.
Great teacher. Provides detailed study guides that she follows to a T. She also provides power point slides and lecture notes so there's no reason to look in the book or break your hand writing notes. The tests were very reasonable, as were the assignments and quizzes,I got a B with minimal effort. I would definitely recommend this professor.
I thought she was too easy. I found her approachable and explained things for teh novice. She is very smart and just wants people to participate and act like they care. I thought her tests were easy (high school easy. I listedned to her lectures on my car radio while I worked. Got an A (barely)
She was very knowledgable in this field. In some ways thus was not good because she had too much information and sometimes got frustrated with the students. All in all the class was very interesting and she gave lots of easy points.
take her only if you don't have choice...
There's a reason you take a professor for another class. She is GREAT for all science, very helpful, answers all qustions. All she expects is come to class, participate, ask questions, read the chapter. I'm taking her for Micro biology 251 honors, and research bio 299. Take her
I never studied and I got a B on all the exams. Lectures with PowerPoint's provided. Recorded lectures on Canvas. Textbook not used. She's nice and very knowledgeable. Take her.
Professor Harbour is super nice She really knows a lot about science and gives lots of usefull info for health science majors Has great powerpoints and gives clear study guides She also sends videos to help everyone understand harder concepts Tests are pretty easy Cant wait to take biol 299 with her
She has a ton of resources so unless you're totally lazy you'll be fine. She gives a lot of helpful videos by email during the semester too. She's a really good professor.
If you study her notes, you won't even have to open the book. Still, a lot of her test questionsanswers are a little vague, making them extremely confusing and difficult to answer. Overall, she is a great teacher that posts loads of resources and studying tools on Canvas , but you will have to put in quite a bit of effort to get a high grade.
Prof Harbour is awesome. You can tell she loves the material by the way she teaches the class. She understands that some people have or haven't taken certain classes and puts time in to making sure everyone understands. Shes always available in her office if you need help. She's clear on what she expects out of you. Will definitely take her again!
Professor Harbour is a great teacher! Lots of things to do in class but she's always there to help you. In my opinion, exams are based off of her PowerPoints and notes, She tries her best to help everyone learn and understand the material. It's obvious that she knows and love what she's teaching! I would recommend her to others.
She lectures off her power points, so need for a book. She goes through slides quickly, and can get confusing. A lot of assignments to do as well as online quizzes. Multiple choice exams with 1 written answer. Does take attendance every class. Has online podcasts and power points to follow, be prepared to use a lot of paper! GOOD LUCK!
Her exams are really tough and she is not very helpful. She goes directly by her powerpoints and her exams are insane even if you attend the class everyday. You have to teach yourself the material. Be prepared!!
Dr. Harbour is smart. Her lectures are engaging but fast, so be prepared to listen carefully. She provides you will PLENTY of material that is helpful, but it can be overwhelming. Her tests are fair and graded on a curve. They can be a breeze, but other times her wording can be confusing. If you study and participate.. you should be fine.
I am a good student. Her online quizzes are extremely difficult, lectures cover way too much material within the hour, and there is a ton of HW that is usually only worth 2-15 points each. Harbour is very helpful & accommodating. If you need her to explain things, she will but there isn't enough time in a day to study for her exams. Brutal class!
I am always confused in class. There's too much material covered during lects. She's nice & helpful though. I don't think she realizes how much she expects us to learn during her lects. 8 chapters per exam.. Exam study guides r at least 4 pgs packed w/ tons of questions from top 2 bottom. take this by itself or u will want to drop out of college.
Absolutely no extra credit. Nice lady but don't let that fool you. Just cause someone is nice, doesn't mean that they are fair & just cause someone gives u an encyclopedia to study, doesn't mean you will understand & know it on exam day. I'd rather have my arm burned off than 2 take her class again. Seriously. She's sweet but mock my words. :(
I made an A on every exam. I studied the power point slides. She makes her own lectures from her experience. You do not have to read the book. She gives you what is imortant especially for health care majors.
Dr. Harbour is an awesome teacher. She adores her Honors students and wants them to succeed. If you are a student that want to get into the heath care, then this is the class for you. The class is difficult, but you will have a very good understanding of microbiology and be prepared for other class down the road.
Class was hard. No doubt about it. However, I'm surprised that ppl are saying she isn't a good. She's very sweet & compassionate. With that being said, study hard. Don't think u can skate by in this class. Who wants a nurse who is an idiot & might kill them because of it? Not me. U won't regret taking her! U will be smarter if u take her class
Study at least 12 hrs/wk & go 2 lecture! Very nice lady/cutie-pie. She isn't easy, so don't combine w/other hard classes like I did. She has made me a better critical thinker & as painful/hard as I thought it was @ the time, her material is currently making my nursing class a lot easier to grasp. If u wanna think like a boss, take her class!
Deborah is awesome. Was reccomended by a former student of hers. Glad I took her class. She goes off of her power points and lecture. Quizzes prepare you for the tests, so do them in advance. Study a little bit and you will get a good grade. She gives all kinds of information to help students understand the material.
Professor Harbour is by far the most helpful professor you can have. I took her for Microbiology and Biology 196. She is very helpful and I would take her again and again. She makes every material in Biology very interesting and understandable. Read the material from lab and you'll do good in class.
Dr. Harbour is an amazing professor. I am not generally a Biology person and she was able to show me the fun and excitement in biology. She is also a great professor to go to with advising questions. She was able to help me find professors in my field of study and introduce me to them to help me move forward. She is such a helpful professor.
Dr. Harbour is a great professor. She gives lots of opportunities to help boost your grade. She posts lots of materials online to help you study, so you don't really need to get the textbook. The tests can be hard sometimes, but it is not supposed to be the easiest class so it is to be expected
If you are looking for a great professor to teach you Micro Bio, do not look any further. Dr. Harbour is definitely one of my top favorite teachers because of her willingness to provide her students with everything they need to pass the class. She offers podcasts, notes, PP, and even videos for visual learning.
Overall good teacher, always there for you and replies quickly. Helps you if you are struggling and gives good lectures.
Dr. Harbour is an awesome professor. She truly cares for her students. She give her students plenty of tools to make this class easier (ppt, podcast, case study, group discussions, etc). Her exams are fair, strictly from her lectures, ppts, and case studies sometimes she may put an essay question on the exam for extra point.
Dr. Harbour has lots of notes, websites, videos, etc. These are all used on her chapter quizzes and exams. She gives great feedback and always there to help with questions if you dont understand.
Dr. Harbour is a knowledgeable professor and as long as you study and do all of the monotonous work you'll do well. However, she can be rude and entitled. She always seemed to be upset if you asked a question or if you didn't know an answer. And after seeming so snooty would suddenly not understand why no one would come to her office...
Dr. Harbour is a great and knowledgeable professor who guided me through our research in Biol 299. This class inspired me to pursue research further. I would continue again if it were available even though I have moved on to another school. She is a good person to have on your side as a mentor.
After taking this course, I decided to participate in research at UNLV. Keep a detailed research journal and label everything! Dr. Harbour is a wonderful mentor. Take this course!
Not an easy class. You're in college get over it. She is the best! I've taken 400 level classes that don't compare to her lectures. She made me a better student and for that I cannot thank her enough. You want easy switch majors. How CSN got her I'll never know. The lady knows her stuff, if you're lucky enough to take her she is an amazing mentor
took this class 2x for research experience. If you're pre-med you need research on your application. Dr. Harbour is probably the smartest person at CSN so why not learn from the best? It is an easy way to learn proper lab technique, keeping a research notebook and preps you for poster presentations. She will do anything for her students to succeed.
Dr. Harbour is hands down the best biology teacher I've ever had in college! She truly cares about her students and will always make time for them. She even said it herself, "There is no reason for anyone to drop this class, even those with low grades." Take advantage of all of the extra study materials she puts on Canvas and you should be fine! (:
Dr. Harbour is awesome. Took her for lab during the summer. It's a lot of material packed into 8 weeks, but I honestly looked forward to lab the two days a week we had it. 10 lab quizzes and 2 practicals make up your grade. This is the practical application of the material you study in lecture, she shows the real life application and makes it fun!
Dr. Harbour definitely knows her stuff. She is an amazing teacher and makes learning a tough subject as easy and fun as possible. She is very accessible to help if needed, her goal is to have you pass, helps however she can. She expects you to do your part and study. Her tests are not difficult and straight forward as long as you study.
Biology is intimidating. It's not like any other class you have to take... you can't study the night before. Deborah has podcasts up for her lectures and if you're an auditory learner, like me, just listen to those over and over and you can get an A if you really put in the work! Her tests are based off of her powerpoints, no book needed.
I would like to thank you, Professor Harbour. You are perfect! and I am really lucky to have you. Everything was perfect at the beginning to ending. I went her office. She helped me a lot. She showed how I have to study. Even she gives some hints how I can grow the lab. score and I did. I boosted my lab score. DO NOT BE AFRAID OF GOING HER OFFICE!
Dr. Harbour is the nicest professor I've ever had! She really cared about me and my grade. After a crappy first 8 weeks in Lab, she broke down what I needed to do to get a C and even showed me it was possible for me to get a B in for the semester grade. She's hilarious and also well respected. She answers any question right on the spot.
I liked the class, it was not super hard. Make sure you watch teachers podcasts
very interesting class, learned a lot. I took it online and Deborah does an excellent job of communicating even though the class is online, she always replied to emails I sent her in a timely manner, even if it was the weekend, and sent out reminders on assignments which helped A LOT. Other online teachers usually leave you to figure it out.
This was a research class. It was really fun, but REALLY HARD at the end. We had to review all our experiments and papers/notes. Deborah was great with giving us background info and resources to review. It was a good first research experience. Just make sure you have the time to go over the material each week because procrastination will suck.
Dr Harbour is the best biology professor Ive had! She teaches with a passion and really wants to help you understand the material. Her tests are based solely off her power points and textbooks arent required. I took 251 in the summer which can be hard but she made it easier. If she taught all of the biology classes I would take them with her.
i took 251 Lab with Dr. Harbour during the summer and a class that can be hard was made much easier by her. Shes willing to help and gives great feedback. If your having a hard time shell push you in the right direction. Shes so sweet and caring and I wish she could be my professor for all my biology classes.
Dr. Harbour is very approachable. You can go to her office to help you understand difficult topics. She motivates us to work hard and inspires us to do our best. She supported and helped me get into Pharmacy school and Health Professions Scholarship by writing letters of recommendation. She wants her students to be successful. Im thankful for her.
Dr. Harbour is a very knowledgeable woman. You can tell that she really loves science and Microbiology. The only down side is that she can't really teach. She reads off her power points and pretty much re state what the power point said. She also says "Oh you guys already know this from 189, I'm not gonna go through this." "Oh whatever"
The tests are weighted at 65%. Her lectures are power point, over 75 slides per chapter; sometimes 100 slides. Tests are 65 questions including a 10 point essay. So the whole test is out of 100 points, so each question on the multiple choice is worth more than 1 point. She doesn't tell you what to study, Just says, 'Go over power points and notes."
Most resources provided by any professor I have taken. If you make good use of them, you will be successful. I took course without purchasing textbook, since she puts everything she wants you to know and tests on in her power points and podcasts. Miss class, watch the podcast at you pace. No reason to fail this course with her resources.
I love her lecture. It is a lot but after class, you have to review so you will be fine.
If you value your grade do not take her! Especially in the summer!! She does not lessen the material and she took pride in the class avg. being a C! You have to do discussions, learning modules on EACH chapter. A quiz on each chapter that includes writing responses that you dont have time for, then an exam you REALLY dont have time to do!
I took her for Biol 251 over summer and she gives a lot of busywork. You don't learn a whole lot in the class but if you really commit you can get her assignments done fairly quickly. She was available to answers questions and respond to emails but her teaching and grading were not outlined clearly. Assignment grading is the worst part of the class
Clear and generous grading scale. Very well planned online class with straightforward assignments and tests. This professor is also very understanding of any issues given the format of the class. If you participate in the discussions and complete homework/exams then understanding the material and achieving a decent grade in this class is easy.
No textbook necessary. You must purchase Connect to do the assignments and exams. You pretty much go at your own pace. It is a lot of work, but this course made Microbiology interesting for me. She has so many resources and gives you deadlines on when to complete the assignments. She is always there if you need help and answers in a timely manner.
I really enjoyed this class. There is a lot of weekly classwork but nothing to hard to complete. You do have to buy Mindtap but the class was an easy A. I highly recommend taking this course.
At the first of the semester it was hard to get used to what she wanted done in the assignments but once I got used to it, it wasn't that bad. The tests timing is pretty short, I had to ask for her to open them early. A great professor though and responds to emails quickly, very personable.
Took during the summer which was a 8 week course. There are 4 exams and lots of homework! Tedious work but overall very easy. You need to stay on top of all the due dates, if you miss it you will not be able to retake it unfortunately. All assignments and exams are done on cengage and mindtap. Overall easy class just do the work.
