Professor Hoag is AWESOME! She literally teaches what is on the test. Extra credit given every so often but you get extra points just for attending. I was not into Government at all and I mad an A. She's great and I plan on taking her if she teaches Texas Government!
Professor hoag is a fantastic teacher. She made the class more of a discussion with lots of activities to further understand different topics. She gives extra credit for speaking up in class and knowing random facts about the US government. She likes you to keep up with the things that are happening in the news, and the exams are easy
What an awesome teacher! She does everything for you to not fail! She wants you to succeed and you don't reakky have to study for her tests, it's all voabulary and definitions and a few short answers. I loved her passion for students to get involved and know things most don't know about. She is AWESOME! TAKE HER!
Amazing teacher. Keeps the class entertained throughout. Has alot of passion for the subject and really wants everyone to get an A. Keeps giving extra credit opportunity and keeps the class interested in this subject. Highly recommend her!
Wonderful teacher. Intelligent, sweet and pretty hilarious. Take this class if you can!
Professor Hoag is such a wonerful person. She cares so much for all her students.Always available when you need her. TAKE HER!
Took her back when I was in high school. As my first college course, she had to be one of the BEST professors I've ever had. She makes her classes fun & interactive, the day before the test she'll go over EXACTLY what's on the test, so no unnecessary BS. As for essays, she'll look over them if you turn it in early. HER CLASS IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FAIL!
She cares for her students a lot, usually emails to inform students. She checks attendance, in class writing each day of class. 2 essays, 2 debates, 3 tests, participation, media assignment. Her tests are hard, you have to study seriously. I was so worried about my grade, but she is not that strict. She always tries to make her class comfortable.
Awesome teacher, cares a lot about her students. Attendance checked every day, plus daily writing assignments. Our class was 3.5 weeks (summer), so we had 1 debate, 3 tests and 1 media/discussion day. Fun and very interactive with everybody - some grade points depend on your participation in discussions. Definitely would recommend.
She really has a passion for the subject which is great. When writing papers, be very careful to prove every statement you make and use proper grammar. She takes participation grades very seriously, speak up in class!
Professor Hoag seamlessly integrates an atmosphere of expectation with an approachable disposition. The work is heavily participation-intensive, where daily writing assignments accumulate as a participation grade, and the curriculum is very informal--the lecture is only loosely based on the textbook, and she writes the exams herself.
Professor was very disorganized during lecture. However, she offers a review before the test and is very laid back. She is knowledgeable and passionate about her course.
Pros: Professor Hoag is a phenomenal teacher. She is interactive, concise in her lectures, and a very easy grader. She gives copious amounts of time to do assignments, and she even reminds you everyday of what will be due. Easy tests. IF YOU STRUGGLE IN GOVERNMENT, GET THIS PROFESSOR!! Cons: Honestly, I couldn't think of a single one.
She's the best teacher I have ever had in college.
you do have the opportunity for extra credit. she is amazing as long as you go to class! this is really important. her exams are straight forward, and she lets the class decide what kind of exam but she doesn't give you the answers! lol she wants you to succeed! just show up and participate! this is a grade saver when you participate!
She's a great professor and I would would to take her class again. She's very helpful and offers a lot of extra-credit. Showing up to class is a must since she takes attendance and class participation is important.
She's an awesome professor! She gives pretty good lectures! PARTICIPATE! Exams are pretty simple and straight forward as long as you studied. and even if you didnt, answer as many as possible. She says there is no wrong answer. Gives a ton of extra credit. She'll work with you. Easy pass!
Professor Hoag is such a sweetheart. I feel like I am respected by her and understood well by her. Although her lectures may be a little messy sometimes, I have managed to do well on every test. She is hilarious and always has the best metaphors. She is a pleasure to have as my professor.
Professor Hoag teaches government in a very unique way, in her course, there is no textbook, and part of the grade is just showing up. The class is probably the easiest A you will ever get, and you'll consider changing your major to government. I would recommend her to anyone.
Go to class and participate! Her lectures can be a little crazy but they are VERY interesting and full of real-world examples. She is honest and I learned SO much from her course. Exams are mostly made up of essay and short-answer questions. Study the notes she provides and pay attention in class -you'll be sure to pass. She is a great professor!
She is a great professor. Come to class and participate and you will get a lot out of it. Every lecture turns into a class discussion that has a tendency to get off topic, but still relevant to current events and controversial topics. She gives handouts for the tests. Use those and you will be fine. I learned a lot from her, and enjoyed class!
I had her for summer US Government. She is an amazing teacher and down to earth. Participation is a must. The book was online and free, so that was a big help.
Magnificent professor. Lectures were always interesting. Tests had a lot of subjective questions. Just answer and you'll get it. Very interesting class throughout. Showing up to class is a significant part of your grade, so be aware.
Great professor! She gives tons of extra credit. I recommend the twelve week course because she is very lenient and will make the tests shorter if she didn't get to all the material. She does require a LOT of outside assignments though (group projects, research papers, volunteer hours). If you want to learn and get an easy A she is for you.
A Professor that truly cares about her students, she will be there for you from the beginning of the course and beyond. Participation & group discussion are the main parts of the class. Dedicates an entire day before the exam to go over the study guide, if you understand you should do well on it. Tons of extra credit opportunities and 1 paper due.
She is so passionate about what she teaches, so her main goal is that you actually get some knowledge from her class. As long as you do the assignments, and go to class you'll get an A. Usually assignments are pretty short and easy. She also gives a review sheet and goes over it the day before the test.
I took he GOVT2305 class. Overall, I had a good experience. She was rude to me on several occasions, though I'm willing to infer she had a bad day. The tests are ok but if you don't study, you won't pass. She provides amazing stories and analysis to concepts and ideas. Unlike other government professors, she is quiet on personal beliefs. Rate: B+.
She was the best teacher I had for government. Tests are a bit hard but follow the Test guide she will provide and you will definitely do good. take down notes because everything she will test you came from her lecture. Send her emails whenever you have question and she will reply ASAP. Unbiased and appreciates participation. Awesome teacher !
Loved having her as a teacher! Her lectures were fantastic & she is a fair (and prompt) grader. You should do well in her class if you participate and study. She gives extra credit opportunities too!
If you skip class, you MIGHT pass, if you really know your stuff and read the textbook, but you will loose points on participation that day and possibly other treats. Hoag's lectures are amazing, the class can be challenging if you don't pay attention, because she can call on you on a whim. DON'T skip test, makeups are 10x harder. Good luck!
She is an amazing and inspirational teacher who cares for her students. She gives out a good amount of extra credit which will help with your grade. If you miss a class, you will be behind since participation is a big part of the final grade.
Best professor i've ever had! Go to class, do homework, study, and you will make an A. She gives tons of extra credit and is always available after class. She responds to emails very quickly.
Super short textbook( Free) readings account for most of your homework grades. She doesn't take attendance but the majority of her grades and extra credit come from participation and classwork, so be there. Has 4 non cumulative tests that come in MC, short answer, and matching. One of the best. Simply the best professor, no one is as good as her.
Just take her. She is probably the best without a doubt.
Incredible lectures. She gave such enthusiastic and well prepared lectures that studying for tests was minimal and I ended up getting an A. I saw many students thanking her as we turned in our finals for our last class. Truly what a college class should be.
She provides a free link to the textbook which is awesome!
I recommend her 100% Extra credit galore, lots of writing but they are super short that you turn in for class, 4 tests, short essay, and participation in class points are good to get your grade up. She makes learning govt fun and she is passionate about what she does.
Great teacher!! I highly recommend to take Govt-2305 with her. She makes everything is easier to get a good grade in the class . We hardly ever get she kind of professor in college level courses. Questioning, discussion, talking in the class and answering the correct answers of her questions in the class are main portion of participant module.
She teaches very well, if you take her for government she is not like other professors, she will draw you in with her lectures. All you have to do is show up and participate in class, if you cant speak in class Go TALK TO HER, she will give you another method of participating, and it is a big grade. If you are taking US gov TAKE HER!!!
I took this class as my first ACC class and Professor Hoag was amazing. Her grading policies were very clear and fair. She also gives tons of extra credit. She provides lecture handouts on blackboard that correspond to her lectures, which was very helpful. The tests were pretty straightforward as long as you study.
She cares about every one of her students and she wants all of them to pass. She gets very into her lectures and will make sure you understand the topics with great examples and even field trips. Easily my favorite professor I have every had.
Hoag gives you an abundance of extra credit simply by participating in class. She is very lively when she is teaching and really cares that you understand the material so that you can apply it in real life, rather than just memorizing stuff to pass. I love her point grading system and we never had to write papers, just short responses.
Amazing professor, you can tell she really loves her job. I would take her class again in a heart beat. Its not a difficult class at all, a lot of what youre gonna do is group oriented so be ready for that. Shes very understanding and easy going with her students. Very clear about whats on the tests, if you can, take her class!!!
The professor is very nice and considerate of her students' presumably busy lives. The thing is that she's very lenient when it comes to creating/grading her (many) quizzes and other material making this class terribly easy. You can get an A but i don't think it's anything to be proud of.
Shes a very good teacher and cares about your education. Ive never had such a clear grading system and make sure you participate its 10% of your grade. Btw she gives lots of extra credit, DO IT !!! Also dont skip her class little daily assignment every class asking your opinion on quote. Shes very caring and respectful towards you
This professor is amazing. She really does want her students to succeed, and you can tell she is passionate about government. She gives tons of extra credit!! Attend class everyday because participation matters.
Very fun and interactive class. Lectures are never boring. You will make an A and thoroughly learn the material. 10/10 would recommend this professor.
Professor Hoag, truly loves teaching. She wants her students to succeed. Gives tons of extra credit, which makes it impossible to fail her class. Particpation matters because it's part of your grade which she adds at the end of the semester and that includes group work and class discussion, so just showing up and not speaking wont count.
Mrs. Hoag was definitely a great history teacher I just felt she was a bit mean. I asked for help a few times and while she did provide it for me I just got the feeling she was not that happy. Other than that she was a great teacher and I would suggest her. Just know to neverrrrrr skip class that will be a massive mistake on your part.
I'm taking her next semester for 2306 because I know her style. She talks about herself a lot and you really need to ask specific questions when she is going over the review to get an idea of what she is EXACTLY looking for on the test... if you don't you'll just get her casual conversation definitions of things, but the tests are very technical.
The sweetest and kindest professor ever. I took her for a 5 week summer course. Easier class I've ever taken. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HER BLACKBOARD TALKS. So easy and you get the credit you need for the week. She knows her stuff y'all and can talk about it for hours. Easiest A I've ever earned and that's on high school and middle school. TAKE HER!
I took her over the summer and she is amazing. She answers questions and it's one of the easiest A's I have ever gotten in my life. Everything was online and she made even offered extra credit! Take her and get that POLS credit!
Professor Hoag is absolutely amazing. I did take this course during COVID-19, it was an easy A class. She praises on her class being super easy, which it is entirely. Personally I think she makes government easy and fun to learn.
I loved Mrs. Hoag. She was very understanding this year. We were supposed to have two papers to write this year, but because a whole week of ice storms happened, she lowered it to one paper, which wasn't graded hard. It is super easy to get an A. The only homework is a weekly paragraph about the short readings. I never read and still got an A.
I liked the style of her teaching, presentations and essays but no tests! I felt like I learned more that way.
Took Professor Hoags class this past summer and absolutely loved it. Professor does an amazing job at guiding discussions and teaching government in a interesting and engaging way. Very good!
Just amazing. Passionate about government. Down to earth. Genuine. Leads the charge in teaching in a way that's the wave of future. Focuses on the big concepts. Wants you to learn; not just get the grade. She respectfully challenges you. She ask you to question. She truly seeks open and free dialog that make us all more informed, better citizens.
Such a fantastic professor! She is very responsive to emails and even willing to set up a meeting if you need to talk about something (I had an asynchronous class). Plenty of opportunities for extra credit. Every lesson is thought-provoking and interesting, and I actually really enjoyed doing the work for this class. Easy A. Highly recommend!
Prof is very understanding and accommodating. Countless extra credit assignments. No tests or quizzes. Weekly participation grade discussion board posts over half hour lectures. Lectures are interesting. 10 short paragraph assignments over readings. One 500 word essay. Three short powerpoints. As long as you do your work you'll get an A.
Lots of reading, provides material for class, extra credit available, make-up work available. 1 very serious essay. Participation in discussion boards is very important and 3 main projects. Professor responds quickly to emails. Professor also provides lecture videos relating to course material, take notes for discussion boards and emails.
VERY easy class! take her she is awesome and caring!
Professor Hoag was a joy! You can either take Texas history with an average professor or take with someone who really knows their stuff. Highly recommend!
Wonderful professor and easy online class! Everything is organized and dates set by first day. The textbook is also free, written by her and other staff. Average readings, short lectures, extra credit if you do the bare minimum. Most you'll have to do is some research for project presentations and some discussion if you want. Very discussion based.
Absolutely love Professor Hoag! By far my favorite class this semester. HIGHLY recommend for anyone looking to take US GOV. Her lectures are amazing, she's very clear with her instructions, she is willing to help after class and during office hours, and it is easy to see she wants every single student in her class to succeed.
Truly a wonderful professor. She took us on felid trips and had a mock trial, both were very fun. That does not mean that you don't have to put in effort, do the assignments on time, and participate in class as much as possible and you will get an A. Everything was graded on time and she responded to emails very quickly.
Wow her lectures are awesome and passionate. I enjoyed listening to her lectures. I took a hybrid class which I highly recommend, it saves time. Each week is a 250 word response, essay, or presentation. No textbooks. Class was engaging and I felt that I learned IMPORTANT material.
She only wants her students to pass, responeds to emails fast and this class has no test/quiz !
Really good professor, Whole class was discussion based only had a few like actual assignments, Definitely recommend!
Professor Hoag is amazing. She is passionate and knowledgeable, and her lectures are interesting to listen to. She gets the class involved. There are no tests, just presentations and participation points. She has lots of opportunities for extra credit and gives clear criteria for grading. There's usually 1-2 short assignments per week.
Professor Hoag was one of the best professors I have had in a very long time. She was caring about the stressful situation I was in. Attendance is essential to your overall grade. Three major grades and the rest are daily. She is a very easy grader and very sympathetic. She allows late work before the last week at school for partial credit.
She's very passionate about her work and always makes sure that her students are comfortable with the topics, the open discussions in class are enjoyable to be apart of since she finds way for people to be engaged with the lesson. No exams, just few easy presentations for a grade and one essay! I highly recommend anyone to take this class.
I really loved her as my professor. She's truly so caring and understanding and her lectures are always amazing and fun to participate in. We didn't have tests for this class which was really awesome. Just some presentations and a discussion board. I HEAVILY recommend her, she's such an awesome professor!
Easy grader, but text-heavy class. JUST FOLLOW THE RUBRICS AND YOU WILL PASS. Need to analyze 3-4 texts + watch video to each write a paragraph about + 4-5 lecture videos where you need to find questions and write a 1 sentence response to every week. 2 presentations, which are pretty easy in terms of research, and 5 weekly discussion questions.
I love this professor! She always had everything on time and together and only pushed deadlines backward- not forward, so it's always in your favor. On top of this, she gave a lot of extra credit during her lectures if you listened closely, I will say that she has quite a bit of lectures that are long length, but they go by quickly if you listen.
Professor Hoag was amazing. If you have test taking anxiety this is the class for you! Its completely discussion based, with interesting presentations in place of exams. If you put in the work you will get an A. Listen closely in lectures for extra redit opportunities. Take Prof Hoag!!
This professor is AMAZING. She is very educated and passionate about teaching. I feel like I learned a lot with her. Every week we have to read and write about the readings, but it is not bad AT ALL. Definitely bearable. Attendance/ participation does matter (you're graded on that). If you want an easy A, TAKE HER CLASS. Just don't procrastinate.
Professor Hoag's class is very discussion-based. The way she teaches about government is unbiased, and she makes it a point to respect everyone's opinion on politics. Her class is easy; no exams, a few presentations and discussion boards. The in-class discussions we've had are very enjoyable and insightful. She's great.
Awesome Professor and Awesome class! Prof. makes it easy to comprehend & integrate your thoughts & opinions. NO tests or quizzes. Plenty of material that helps you understand. Straightforward questions, but thought-provoking. Grades come from reading and video lecture questions, and some presentations. She is kind, helpful, and understanding.
I took GOVT 2305 and 2306 with Professor Hoag, and she had an extremely easy course with no tests. Her current grading system was a bit confusing, but she is working to improve it, and most people in my class ended up with As or high Bs. She is a very sweet woman whose lectures are engaging and interesting, and I highly recommend her class!
Professor Hoag is amazing—truly a gem to the faculty. She presents material in a fair, interesting, and engaging way, and communication is excellent. You'll be lucky to take her class. Even in five weeks, I learned a lot. The 5-week course includes a good amount of writing, but it's manageable and not too difficult.
Amazing Professor! Class is pretty easy if you pay attention to her lectures and they are so interesting and engaging that's not hard to do. No tests or quizzes, just 2 presentations. 5 units. Take her; you won't regret it!!!
...........
There is literally NOTHING to discourage you from taking a class with Professor Hoag. She has amazing lectures, rarely gets off topic and when she does, it is relating to the material at hand. Her grading is very forgiving and if you put any effort into this class whatsoever, you will pass with flying colors.
I would 100% take professor hoag again. Her lectures are interesting and important and the work was easy but enjoyable to do. she offers plenty of extra credit if you are struggling and she cares about all of her students.
Professor Hoag is AMAZING!!! One of my favorite classes I've taken by far. As long as you do the readings each week and participate in class discussion it's an easy A, and she has plenty of extra credit opportunities. Truly wants all her students to succeed, I learned a lot in that class even though history and government aren't my strong suits.
