Worst Professor I have ever had...I think majority of Business students would agree with me. God knows what kind of revenge she is taking on innocent students.
I had a blast in her class. Extremely hard and very demanding on all her students. But overall I had a great experience in her class. Good teacher and she is hard to pass... this class makes you reconsider you major.
Great teacher. Learned a lot in her class. Keep on top of your stuff, go to class, and understand the concepts and you should be fine. It's not meant to be an easy class, but it's very possible to get an A.
One of the harder professors I have had at WSU. I think she goes overboard for an intro class.
Hard class no matter who's teaching, but Professor Jones made it understandable and made sure we all understood before going on to the next subject. I would definitely recommend her for accounting.
Deb Jones does not budge, and this class could really be set up to be understood way more clearly than it is. I think she and her counterpart Sue Garr need to restructure.
The class overall is really difficult, she tries to explain it to the best of her ability but the tests are hard, you have to know your stuff by the back of your hand.
The course is hard. Accounting is hard. Professor Jones is a sweet woman who really wishes to see her students excel. Strict on deadlines, but willing to go at lengths to help out. Only critisism: Needs to stop being distracted by her phone and needs to do basic math properly.
A very hard class to get an "A", especially if the professor doesn't no any other way to explain it to you.
This class is not supposed to be easy. It is an upper level accounting course. However, you should have no problem getting an "A" if you put in the effort necessary to do so.
This class is hard no matter what. She is a real nice lady however it is not meant for people to get an easy A and breeze through it. It requires a lot of work, but as long as you go the extra mile to get that A it is acheivable.
Deb Jones is the best accounting teacher that you can possibly take here at Wayne. She is very helpful to her students. I reccommend her to anyone that has to take this course.
Deb is a very good teacher. Is very helpful and explains material in a way that can be understood easily. The class itself is a departmental class which makes it rubbish. Do not take Sue Garr for this class!!
She was a very good teacher, don't get me wrong. But, she taught too falst and did not explain the projects very well. I just gor my grades and I have all A's and one D(from her. She killed my chance to make the persident;s list and I would advise you NOT to take her because you may think you are doing okay, but she grades VERY difficult.
If you like organization, schedules, and performance feedback don't take Deb Jones. In the online section she would disappear, not posting assignments nor responding to questions. Constantly changed the schedule and getting grades was like pulling teeth. Just a very fustrating situation, never knew what was going on.
everyone saying she is even ok as a teacher is on crack. She maybe helpful and clear but she is WITHOUT QUESTION the most arrogent and inconsiderate teacher ive EVER had and should be banned from teaching. Anyone looking to spend 15 hours a week on one class, this would be the course for u.
I think Deb Jones is a great professor, and she is energized which is helpful considering it's a 3 hour class. It is quite possible to get an A, with a little work and dedication. I strongly urge, reading all the assigned chapters, or you will be lost.
Deb Jones is the best teacher you can take for ACC 3010. We had Sue Garr as a subsitute one day and I guarantee you if I had her for the course I would have easily failed. She makes the class as interesting as possible, because I really never notice class is over until it is.
I had Deb for ACC 3100 and liked her so much I decided to take her for ACC 5180. She is a great teacher who gives A LOT of extra credit built in on tests and quizzes. She is very knowledgable and is NOT a bore to listen to. Would highly recommend taking her for any class. Has a great personality and is a very likable and helpful resource.
Deb is a great teacher. Do the homework, and ask her to go over the things you don't understand and you'll do just fine.
Horrible organization. Navigating Blackboard is hopeless. Work level is insane. Do not take her if at all possible.
When I took ACC7100 and 7188, I thought she was a very good teacher. But when I take ACC7998, I change my mind. She is crazy. The exam is the most terrible one I have ever had at WSU. I don't expect an A. As long as she could give me B, I would appreciate her as much as I can.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. Irresponsible, arrogant, prejudice. Very subjective when grading. Never let you know how she REALLY grades. She gave me a very low grade on her class (I got all A from other courses). What makes me mad is she did not grade according to her syllabus and no explanation. God knows what she is doing.
This online course had a heavy workload and moved at a fast pace. Avoid taking it during the Spring/Summer semester.
I am taking her this winter semester and believe me she is very hard grader. she will take points off without justifying that. I honestly dont recommend her to any student. she is very hard grader and you know better how painful that is .
OMG this class was majorly hard!3 tests and if you did bad on the first one, you won't be getting an A.The textbook is a must, and just cuz she has half open book/note exams, doesn't mean the exam is easy. You have to study so that you don't need the book, otherwise your likely to get a low grade. Plus she talked so fast, I couldn't keep up.
Terrible prof. ever!!!Like others said:arrogant, irresponsible, and extremely hard grader. If there's any chance, avoid her!!! If you don't answer or ask questions in class, she takes off points even you attended all classes!!!Moron prof.!!!
She is prejudice. If she don't like no matter how well is your performance, she will not give you good grade. Work load is heavy.
Very hard class. Her lectures follow the book exactly. Which actually helps because you have to become very familiar with the text by the exams. The homework is useful but making people explain the homework didn't help much. Tax is a tough subject. She at least makes jokes and can answer most any question.
The course matter is difficult regardless of the teacher. Prof Jones will work with you on some assignments and she does do her best to accommodate her students. On the other, she is very disorganized and you will not get any of the assignments you turn in on a timely basis. Prob. solutions do not prepare you for all the problems on the exam.
Disorganized, barely learned anything she had more than three absent in one semester her personal problems never end and it effect students. She do not grade on timely mannner
SHE is beyond disorganized it doesn't make sense. It took her 2 months to grade projects and grades still haven't posted, and the final exam was 4days ago. She claimed to be under the weather and that's why she didn't grade assignments she even said her son had our projects WOW! REALLY?? This course uses 12Hrs+ a week w/homework
She accommodate with students with certain things. I understand accounting requires an amount of practice, but I do believe the amount of homework she gave us was too much. Spent a lot of time on this class more than my other ones. I highly recommend to read the book and use the acct lab as a guide
This course requires extreme amount of time. If you follow the book and use many resources like youtube you should be fine. She is very slow with grading, for her to have been with the university for soo many years you would think she would grade faster. She has an excuse for everything but if you give an excuse she's not going to accommodate you.
there is a lot of homework and sometimes she takes a while to get project grades back to you but overall she is a cool person and a great teacher
she is very helpful if you ask questions she will answer to best of her ability....class requires a lot of time....doesnt really give you an idea what exams are over just says its over everything in chapter...exams are very long but that is because it covers a lot of material....wish she wouldnt make excuses when it came to grading things
She sets arbitrary deadlines for assignments. She's unorganized, takes too long return assignments, and is simply unclear on many aspects of the class. She treats 3010 as a 5000 level course. You'll spend more time studying for accounting than all of your other courses combined. Avoid if possible. There should be other options for 3010.
took last fall. required hw assignments were rather demanding - some took 3 hrs to complete...exams were really easy, book was very helpful.
Lectures are really clear and detailed. Tests are fair too. The projects are a pain though. I tried convincing her to have in-class quizzes but no luck. I found the class easy...just pay attention in class. She's also relatively strict.
A third of her students will end up having to repeat her class. She doesn't give "C-" grades so if you are only 1 point away from a passing grade then be prepared to retake her course.. Wayne State needs more than one professor to instruct the 3010 course. Good Luck..
Great Professor. Keeps you awake in class. Very clear and open to answering questions. Learned a whole lot. Easy if you do the assignments. You'll be prepared for the exams just by doing the projects.
She talks really fast but she knows her stuff. Takes way too long grading projects and posting grades. Too much HW and it took a very long time to complete. Overall she was ok but Wayne still needs to offer another professor to teach this course.
DO NOT TAKE HER! she is the WORST proff ever. only way 2 pass is if u study 24/7-LITERALLY, learn the material inside out, go to every tutoring session, and actually do online hw which takes 2-3 days. 190 questions on each test, 5 answers to each mult choice. does not grade on time, too fast, whole class is just overwhelming! impossible to get C
worst professor to teach this material. We must have more choices at Wayne state
AVIOD her at all costs. Way too much work, and tough tests. She is unclear and moves way too fast, not too friendly to students. I was a 4.0 student and barely passed this class
She is the only one who teaches this section. Tests are long and not practical, she takes forever to grade projects and tests, unfriendly and rude to students, lectures are unhelpful and the TA's end up teaching you what you need to know. Horrible class.
If you attend Wayne State GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN!!!! smh the curriculum for ACC 3010 is terrible! It's so much work it's ridiculous! I did all the homework assignments, went to every lab, and turned in all 3 projects and still gotta D Because the test are worth so many points:130,150,200 and I did not do good on them. This class is HELL!!
Great teacher but you must go to the lectures to appreciate her. She explains things very well in class. Way too much homework though, and slow grading.
Worst Professor ever. AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS. She expects you to know everything and assigns wayyyy to much work
This is on her syllabus: "Students should expect 3-4 outside hours PER CREDIT HOUR of a class." Do I need to say more? I'm in my senior year and have never felt so overloaded and stressed out. I have work, other classes, and other obligations... I hate complaining but I don't see how this is reasonable. If you don't work, maybe you'll be okay.
Be ready for the work. She is pretty enthusiastic about the subject, so that is a plus. She really does like teaching. But she can come off as rude at times. The coursework on Wiley is nothing like what you work on in the discussion lab, and her exams are extremely long. 140 questions seems to be the average this semester. Ridiculous!
Worst class ever! So much work with very little reward, the exams are ridiculously long and unless you know every single little detail its hard to get above a B-. This class was required for me and she is the only teacher. The TA's are helpful for the projects but since they don't know whats on the exams they aren't that much help. Tough class.
Incredibly rude and ineffectual. Takes well over a week to grade anything. Relies exclusively on TA's for everything other than reading directly off the textbook publishers slides. Totally unavailable for help. Tests are weighted as to reduce all other assignments to buffer points. However, tests are from publisher so they're straight from the book
Learned way tooo much in this beginner once week class. Very organized and great teacher. this class is set in a way to get students the most practice and learning for accounting or other business field. Very strong teacher and discipline. Does take time grading due to number of students attending her day and night but she is very helpful.A+TEACHER
Ms. Deb did a wonderful job this semester! If you do all of your homework, do all 3 projects ( if you to the accounting lab with some of it done, Sandee will basically finish the project for you) the tests will be easy. In short, there is no way you can fail this class.
She's really know her stuff, she talks very fast and goes through a lot of info in only one lecture. There is a lot of work assigned but when you ask for help it is given. It's a class that you really have to work to get an A.
This is honestly a tough class but you really learn a lot. I loved Deb and she was super accommodating to whatever I needed. Assignments took forever to get back but all in all a really cool professor
Deb Jones is a great accounting teacher. If you study hard and do the homework, the tests shouldn't be a problem. Accounting is a tough subject, but she provides a lot of resources for you to use. I'm not in higher level accounting classes, and what she taught me in intro accounting still sticks with me today.
This class is not as bad as earlier reviewers said. You will have 2+ hours of homework per week. USE THE LAB FOR PROJECTS! Pay attention in class, it is the only way you will do well. Overall a good professor except it takes her 2 weeks to grade a scantron test.
Worst class ever. Worst teacher ever. Don't take accounting at Wayne state university.
Sher is extremely interested in the subject matter. The tests are extremely long and the amount of homework that you receive every week is a lot. However, if you do the projects completely and go to the TA's hours for assistance you will do well.
I'm an accounting major and became discouraged when I seen the ratings that Deb received from past students. However, since I had interest in the subject matter the class turned out to be fairly easy. Long but essential homework assignments. 3 projects (go to the lab for help). Final grade is heavily based upon the 3 exams. Very helpful instructor!
A wonderful person. I enjoyed her class. Dr. Jones was a complete professional. She is a very intelligent human being, personality type is highly conscientious. She is a good teacher very motivated to help make you a success. Dr. Jones and Dr. Sandra Penn ran the accounting lab with A+ customer service. They were very attentive patient and helpful.
Dr Jones gave good lectures w good examples. I Liked being in her class n learned a lot . In the accounting lab I hit her up like a dozen times for help on my projects and each time she helped me. I couldn't believe how patient she was with me every time WOW and she had a positive attitude which kept me going/motivated when the class was hard 4me
A sweetheart, but not a Push Over! U Earn What you get, not a point un-earned. So anyone who is a silver spoon baby Dr.Jones is definitely not the one for U. 2 All the best she is the One when it comes to teaching a skill study my advice study hard with due diligence and I promise you'll come out feeling like an Account. Good luck and God Bless
Deb jones first test was pretty over whelming . over a 100 questions its a little bit much for the time. If you can take your accounting at a community college they would brake it down better. not just flip thru slides. I thought accounting was the hardest subject taking it with her, but when i took it with another professor he broke it down.
This is a tough class. However, it is do-able! I liked the three projects because they made me understand the content. Tests are hard and long. First test was 135 questions! She does not give much extra credit. There is almost always a TA available to help you. If you apply yourself, you will do good. She wants her students to succeed.
Projects and Homework really matters. In order to pass her class you need at least 451pts. You need at least a 100 on all tests and full grades on HW and discussions, and above a full grade on projects. Take any extra credit, every point counts. I had to fight hard for a C+, and I had repeated her class a previous semester. Take it at a college.
after being in college for 3 years i have never in my life met a professor or teacher this horrible, she doesn't give any feedback get prepared for her not to post grades till last day of class so that way you won't even have time to talk to her about the grade, she's rude and doesn't want to help any of her students, DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER
I enjoyed ACCT 3010 with her. Given, I am an accounting major. The class itself covers a ton of material, however there are tons of resources available if you are struggling. The tests are all multiple choice and the projects are comprehensive and enhance understanding (not busy work). Responsive, you get what you put in.
Deb is the worst teacher at Wayne State. She never posts grades so you don't know what your grade is, and never answers emails. TAs are helpful but can't answer some questions. Do not take her if you don't have to, she puts a lot of unneeded stress on students.
Unfortunately she is the only professor that taught this class, so I was unlucky. She never grades your work. We were assigned our third project before she even graded the first. I had this class once a week and she missed three weeks in a row. Nothing she talked about in lecture made sense and I wouldn't have passed without my TA.
Accounting is not a hard class. All you need is time to understand. But Dr. Jones didn't really do a great job. I thought she depended too much on the TA's and the lab to do the explanation. She goes really fast when lecturing which puts you in a confusing spot. She doesn't really explain the concepts. Exams are long like story problems and tough.
Assigns 3 long projects, tests are extremely long and hard, she is a bad professor! She says she doesn't trick you and that this class is not hard, yet she makes its extremely hard! She goes through the slides fast. Ton of homework and quizzes. The projects are hard and you will never get them correct.
she is the only one who teaches for accounting 3010, so PLEASE try to take it at a community college!!! her practice tests are NOTHING like her real tests, which are 10x harder. she will make you spend 4+ on projects (there are 3 in the whole semester), but will fail you on them if SHE can't open them on blackboard. beware!!!
Dr. Jones is super knowledgable and tries to explain everything so that students understand. Tough grader; gives a TON of extra credit opportunities. Pretty good response time with e-mails and always willing to provide feedback on projects. A lot of work, but definitely a great professor.
I barely passed the class, only thanks to the extra credit that she gives. Her exams are long and hard. The homework is a lot easier than the exams. The projects really should be worth more points because they take forever to do. Lectures go by really fast so they aren't that clear. I believe that she is knowledgable but doesn't teach well.
Very bad at teaching, class requires you to complete an insane amount of homework. Tests take hours to complete and are very challenging. Worst part is that she does not care about what we think of her, she laughs at our comments on RateMyProfessor and does not care about how well/poorly she teaches.
This class workload was probably the heaviest I have experienced at Wayne state thus far. Lots of weekly homework, 4 projects, and lengthy finals. If you aren't on top of your stuff and understanding the material, you probably wont do well. Make use of the lab and TAs. She also took forever to return and post grades which was annoying.
This was one of my favorite classes in WSU's accounting department. Deb always kept the classes interesting and fun. There was a lot of group work, so make sure to get a good group early on. Show up and participate, should be an easy A.
Absolutely dreadful professor. Avoid her at all costs . Homework assignments will not exactly prepare you fo the tests unless you understand the material. Projects in noway prepare you for tests, just serve to be a distraction and time waster. felt like a class designed to fail rather than educate
Look, Deb Jones is not a bad professor. I don't know why everyone is so angry on here. I am not thrilled with the grade I received but I think if I tried a little harder I could have gotten an A. I guess the majority of people who rated her are freshman who have never taken a college course. Some of the exams were a little tricky and a lot homework
1. A LOT OF EXTRA CREDITS EVERYWHERE 2. You HAVE to read and take notes before class (FOR EVERY ACCOUNTING COURSE IN GENERAL) 3. It's only natural to get a lot of homework in an introductory acc. class. 4. She turns cold after the deadline passes so be on your toes. 5. The other accounting profs don't care as much as she did so, I miss her
Tax is not something that can be memorized. It's simply too much. You grade is comprised of perpwork, HW, and learnsmart review on each chapter, 3 projects, and 3 exams. Each exam is broken into two part, in-class (that are open notes, open book, and open internet) and take home. Strongly suggest you work with a team.
Wish she taught all the acc classes.
Accounting is a tough course, Deb pushes you to do your best. If you don't study or do the homework you will not succeed in this class. No matter who the professor is for accounting you should expect to put in a lot of work. She even says in class "learning accounting is like learning a foreign language"
Dr. Deb is one of the best Accounting professors. She gets a bad name because of the intro class so I was very nervous going into her class. I found most of the things said about her in the intro class are not true in her Tax Class. She is great! Lectures are good material and her exams were open note and half take home/half in-class. Recommend!
Frustrating prof from start to finish. She has yet to post the grades from exam 2, that we took a month ago. She never posted the depreciation project. She urges you to email her to remind her of things she says she will do. But does not respond to emails or hold herself accountable for not doing what she says she will do.
Awful Professor ever! She lets you use a small index card for her first 2 exams versus other professors letting you use a whole page for all of the exams. Took her because she was the only one available for Summer. She doesnt know how to teach and have her own favorite people in the class. Worst professor ever!!! Stacey is horrible too!
She lets us use a full page cheat sheet for tests now. lots of of extra credit available. do all your homework and you'll get an A.
Professor Jones is a great professor for tax and provides enough extra credit to get an A in the class. There are three exams and six mini projects that are not too difficult. Only bad thing I have to say about professor jones is that she grades extremely slow. Slower than watching a turtle and snail race. LOL but overall great professor and class.
Dr. Jones is an amazing professor. She really cares about the subject she's teaching and cares about students understanding of the course. She gives class work to ensure that we understand the content. She makes the course interesting and sparks discussion. I took her twice for two different courses and would definitely recommend her.
She is in charge of the slides and most of the things the acc department uses. When she sees the class didnt do well on the exams she gives extra credit. There is lots of hw & 3 projects that arent bad. ALSO, she allowed a front and back sheet to make a cheat sheet with whatever you want to write. Without that,i wouldnt have done well.
You either like this professor or you don't. Personally I wasn't fond of her but she was funny and gave a lot of EC. Do the extra credit so it helps you out in the end. The hw, and projects are super easy. You only have to worry about the take home part of the exam and in class exam(3 total).
the BEST professor I have had since attending WSU. Lots of extra credit opportunities plus she works with you if you are unable to attend exam days. The extra credit is easy. Going to class is important in order to understand the material. Lots of homework, but it helps to understand the material. She makes sure you understand the material as well.
I highly recommend Dr. Jones; her lectures are very informative and she keeps the class engaged. She will also take the time to post most of the lectures online subsequently if you are unable to make it to class. She cares about student success and is always available for help!
Deborah Jones is one of the best accounting professors I have had the privilege of taking. Truly cares for her students! Seriously, I have seen her bend over backwards to help anyone who reaches out. Also, learning tax is never easy, but it is easier when she teaches.
Dr. Deb is one of the absolute best professors I've ever had. I had tried to take this class at Macomb Community College and had the worst time, never passed. Dr. Deb has changed my perspective on accounting in general. She cares so much for her students and offers so much extra credit. Would 100% recommend her as long as you put effort in!
Dr. Deb is a caring professor. She does what she can to help you pass but you also have to put in work! Accounting is hard and I've failed this class at a community college. There is clear grading criteria for this course at WSU and lots of extra credit opportunities. If you do all the homework, extra credit, and study for the tests, you will pass!
If you are willing to sit down every week listen to the lectures, read for an hour or so and do the smartbook and homework. There should be no reason you do not get an A. The amount of extra credit given is amazing. Quizzes are 48 questions but graded out of 40. Plus there is extra credit group discussions. Tip: Find quizlets that are for the quiz
I really liked her class. It was very fast-paced tho. Homeworks are posted early, can be done easily. If you study the materials, you should be about to get good grades on the quizzes. The quizzes are out of 48, 8 being extra credits. There are a lot of extra credits. The best thing to do is to just learn and not worry about the grade much.
So here's the thing: ACC 3010 (especially if it's not your major/interest) is a tough class; however, a good prof makes all the difference. Dr. Deb wants her students to succeed-- she's super encouraging about asking "dumb" questions, she'll take time to explain things, and she's quirky. This class is a lot of work, but Dr. Deb is a gem.
Literally the best teacher at Wayne!! She is so sweet and gives soooo much extra credit. The class was difficult for me, but with all the extra credit assignments I got an A!! The grading system in her class is different, which I loved. She has a point system so if you get 700 (C) points you've passed the class. 800 is a (B) 900 is an (A). Take her
One of the best accounting professors at Wayne State. Take her! She enjoys teaching taxes. She gives a ton of extra credit, so focus on learning, and getting an A in the class will be easy. The only problem I had was with how she takes a while to grade some things and gives a bunch of busy work although it is expected for an upper level class.
She's a great teacher and a really lovely old lady! Now, talking about course specific , she goes over chapters really fast( Synchronous meetings) and on exam week she starts a new chapter that wont even be on the exam instead of doing a more in depth recap. Homework will feel like busy work at times. "Wash, rinse, repeat" excuse for busy work.
She sometimes deducts points even if you participate in class because she will tell you that you haven't participated enough. Her homework will take hours to finish because they are very lengthy, and points were deducted from projects without any explanation or anything. In short, she is the professor I wont take again and wont suggest for anyone.
Tough grader along with stupid long homework and have to speak up in class to get points
She is a very frustrating Professor who doesn't do her side of the work and holds the class responsible for it. Deduct points for who knows what reason. Def wont suggest it
Dr. Deb is an awesome professor! This class is for ACC 5180/ AC7188. There is a lot of extra credit and a ton of homework, projects, and quizzes. It is a lot of work, but an A is easily attainable if you put the time in. Attendance is required, she does take long to grade but responds to emails promptly. Watch lectures/read. Highly recommend her!
This class was awful. I'm pretty sure it was her first time doing virtual for government and NFP Accounting. The amount of homework was that of 2 courses. The attendance to watch her read PowerPoints was pointless and it took her forever to grade. I wish there were more prof's who taught this!
professor deb is the best!
AVOID HER, PLEASE DONT TAKE HER, YOU WILL LOSING YOUR MIND , EVERYTHING IS CONFUSING, 4 EXAMS FINAL EXAM 90 QUESTIONS LOTS OF HOMEWORK,
I had Dr Deb for both governmental accounting and tax research. I am just going to be honest, she is very disorganized and takes a very long time to grade assignments. However, she gives out tons of extra credit and will try her best to answer any questions. She was always willing to help with class schedules to make sure students graduate on time.
Dr. Jones is a nice and caring professor. She often amended policies to benefit her students. Tons of built-in extra credit for her class, so getting an A isn't too difficult as long as you do all the homework. Her lectures are okay, sometimes fall behind schedule, but she explains concepts well. Doesn't respond to emails often. I can recommend.
She's an amazing professor; I've honestly never left a review for anyone else. I really appreciate her teaching style; it's clear that she genuinely loves what she's educating. Her class can be challenging if you're not an accounting major, but if you are, I'd say it's moderately difficult. I would definitely take another class with her !!
