Dr. Mangold seems absent minded but she's not, she's just briliant. Speak up to clarify anything you don't understand, but beware that she will go off on a tangent. Although she seems disorganized, she's a great teacher. Always willing to work with you.
Perhaps as an undergrad professor she's great, but as a graduate professor, I have to disagree. I have NO IDEA how she teaches b/c she had US do all of the teaching. It's a bit difficult to learn from your equals! She never bothered to grade on time...when she bothered at all. I had high hopes, too.

She does seem a little scatter-braines, and yes she does go off on tangents, but what I like about her is that she doesn't rush through any of the material, even if that means that the test has to be pushed back. She truely wants everyone in the class to understand a concept before she moves on.
I found it easy to get an A in the class, and for the most part it was interesting. I was disappointed in how little material we covered. Also, the answer keys for the quizzes and tests often had mistakes. So, double check what you got wrong with the book and tell her about it.
Very absent minded, did not really bother to grade our tests. She seemed like she was on something most of the time.
My only problem w/ her was that her notes on the projector were not sequential. Very often she would mix topics and it made it hard to keep notes in an orderly fashion.
Brilliant teacher - really knows her stuff and willing to clarify if you don't understand something. Also willing to talk to you anytime - about her class or other classes you may have a problem in - very helpful!
This is one instructor who will do whatever it takes to ensure that her students understand material she is presenting.
She's a bit not all there. Her class is easy if you read and once & while pay attention. She goes super fat through her notes and isn't very helpful when you ask a question. If you need the class though, she pretty easy just read the book.
Mangold is absolutely awesome!Go to class and study the book OR the lectures and an A is yours!Helped with absolutely any misunderstanding.Very energetic and looney at times. One of the best teachers I have ever taken.Highly recommended.
she is great and fair teacher. i enjoyed her class, her tests are more than fair, and are straight from the book, i learned a great deal.
Totally appeared to be absent minded many times. Was easy, but very weird. Tooooo disorganized. Dissapointed in the class.
She was a good teacher. Very absentminded but still teaches well. She also doesn't have this super arrogant attitude that some teachers have so you feel weird about asking any questions in class. i would recommend taking any class she teaches.
SHE WAS VERY INTERESTED IN HELPING STUDENTS BE SUCCESSFUL IN HER CLASS.
she cares alot and tries to be as organized as possible
I got an easy A but i was never sure where i stood in the class. She is very disorganized and did not seem that she was with the program if you know what i mean. I did not learn much and she droped 1/2 of the chapters b/c we did not have time. Sometimes we would only have class twice b4 the next test.
Would not recommend taking her class. Test questions seem random. As much as I studied, I could never get higher than a B on her tests. Also, she gives essays with her tests on dry subjects.
this class is easy and interesting. read the book she's alittle disorganized. the only thing that suck is she gives essays on her exams. she is very helpful and will do anything in order for you to understand the concepts.
Very easy class. I was disappointed that we spent so much time on the introductory and sensory system physiology. I wanted to get to the psychiatric disorders. Take this class if you want an A.
dr. mangold is a really nice lady... she can be a little bit of a scatter-brain, but she does want everyone to do well, so if you're having problems PASS BY OFFICE HOURS and you're set
This teacher was very helpful, but the tests are hard, no matter how much I studied I never seems to get a grade higher then a B.
She's really sweet and does want everyone to do well! Explains things much more thoroughly in her lectures vs. reading about it in the book. I would take her again!
Abnormal Psyc: Okay, she likes to scare people at the beginning of the semester by saying she only gives out 2 A's, but the class isn't too hard. She can be a bit scattered in her lectures, but study the study guides and you will be fine. I had to study quite a bit, but got an A. She drops one test so you may not have to take the final.
great
helpful
Dr. Mangold is spectacular. She relates everything to actual situation and is WONDERFUL to talk to outside of class. I learned more from her than any prof. I have ever had. Attendance isnt mandatory, but it is a BIG HELP. she also gives very helpful outlines. I would love to take on of her classes again. :)
She is a good proffessor, very helpful, he class is interesting, she want you to understand and do well, she is s sweet and smart.
Dr. Mangold is awesome. Either take notes or read the book. Study sessions are very helpful. If you complete the research summaries and study, you will receive an A.
She is scatterbrained. you can use this to your advantage, but mostly its just annoying. She come to class late, and has a bad attitude half the time.
This class was one of the best classes I've taken at UTSA. I love science in general so the biology involved was very interesting to me. Although coming to class is not mandatory I highly recommend doing so, because she provides a lot of insight into the exams. She is awesome and approachable!
Class is okay, just alot of information. She tries to be fair but sometimes is not unless your her teachers pet.
excellent teacher. clearly knows her stuff and makes it exciting. Always there to help and listens.
Mangold is an excellent prof! She cares about her students, takes the time to make slides for her lectures, give out study guides and give exam reviews. Her lectures are exciting and she is billiant, but she wants to say so much, she can sometimes seem disorganized when thoughts pop into her head ! I'd take another class with her!!
Do NOT waste your money. She is always unprepared. Comes to class 15 min. late, dismisses 20 min. early. Then she wonders why the lecture is behind scheduale. She covered 3 full chapters in one lecture so that she wouldn't have to re-do the final exam. If you must take her, plan on teaching yourself. She must do amazing research for UTSA to hire her
I had Dr. Mangold for Maymester and she was really nice. Gave us Fridays off for "video days" to view in the library that weren't on the exams. The lectures were powerpoint and easy to take notes. The exams did have questions from the book so some reading is best. Offered extra credit. Need to study for exams as they moderately difficult.
Great teacher. Made me want to change my focus to neuroscience
Bottom line: A if you put a little effort. It is very obvious that shes not at UTSA to teach. Supposedly she does it as part of getting funding for her research.
I took her for abnormal psych and for physiological psych. SHES AMAZING. if you read the bad reviews, google her and check out her creds. she knows her Sh**. She legit wants you to do well and will work with you until you get it. great lady in & out of the classroom.
amazing teacher that is very helpful, i never bought the book but went to class 90% of the time and got a B. Highly recommend
She is a nice lady and her test are very simple just go to class read your book and show up for the pretest and you'll pass the class. She also gives out extra credit! I recommend you take her!
DON'T buy textbook, tests off powerpoints & little on articles. 2 exams, drops 1 so do really well on the 1st one. 3 group very-easy-to-do papers. If she doesn't offer EC make sure to ask if she can give them out on Article Discussion ?s. Disappointed as focus was way more on biology but an easy A with some effort required.
Dr. Mangold makes it abhorrently evident that she is not very interested in teaching. She is late to class very often. She covers very little material. I am frustrated, because I love psychology, but her class is making me doubt my major. She only lectures one time per chapter so you essentially teach yourself. Class ends early every day.
Dr.Mangold is amusing and it is evident that maybe teaching is not her passion, however the information is interesting and she is passionate and has much experience on the subject. The tests take studying but she does give reviews AND she will curve, her goal is not to fail to people. Overall I would go for it!
Did not enjoy this class at all. She quit giving pre-tests for the first time this semester because of people cheating last semester. I thought this would be an interesting class, but I felt like she did not care very much for the subject.
I had an A the entire semester. Then on the final she told us that we should study mainly the newest chapters. However, on the final about 80-90% of the questions were from Chapter 1 and very specific questions. My final grade was a C. First, don't even take the class. Second, if you do, DO NOT listen to what she says about the tests. Horrible.
DO NOT TAKE HER! Her final was nothing like she said it would be and made the class hard to follow. I do not recommend her to anyone!
Her classe are not easy but they are worth it. She has so much knowledge and she is willing to share it with those who are interested and she is always willing to talk and help you if you need it. I have taken two classes with her and done two Independent Studies with her in her lab and I have learned so much! She is a true mentor.
I took her Fall 2013. All the comments had me nervous. Dr. Mangold is hilarious! Just do your work! The only thing I didn't like, was the "group" assignments/papers! It's a psychology course for Pete's sake; not a sociology course! Other than that...all good!
Spring 2015: 2 midterm exams (drops 1), 1 cumulative final, 4 ten-page group papers. Aside from being 10 minutes late on a regular basis, Mangold is very disorganized, one time after literally 25 mins she opened slides on the wrong unit, and when we let her know she cancelled class. This type of stuff happens regularly. DONT TAKE.
Spring2015: Halfway through the semester and we have 1 grade on BB, Exam 1 which Mangold ended up giving a 14 point curve, she told the class that it was out of "generosity for bimodal scores" but if you met with her by appointment you learned that the key was actually very incorrect and your raw score was probably higher than your curved score:(
The only thing that kills you is the stress from group work. That is the only reason I absolutely dreaded her class. Other than that she is great and she gives you pretest that are extremely helpful. But forewarning, if you are trying to ACTUALLY learn you need to ACTUALLY learn, not take the easy way out. Material is very interesting! Good luck!
Dr Mangold is a great teacher! She cares about her students and knows her stuff. She is organized and clear in lectures. She emphasizes research articles which are hard but she helps you try to understand them.
Dr Mangold is a great professor! She is hard but fair. Lots of reading, but gives good exam reviews.
Class is hard but fair. Dr. Mangold will help you if you have trouble. She spends alot of time going over research. Good Teacher!

don't miss the reviews!!! exciting lectures
she assigns 5 papers based on group reviews of research articles that can be used as review in part for her exams. exams were multiple choice, and she gives a great review for each exam. I have used what I have learned about stress in my life . Great course.
GREAT LECTURER. IS HUMOROUS . KNOWS HER STUFF, AND FOCUSES ON REVIEWS OF RESEARCH. LOTS OF PAPERS DUE (5). I LIKED HER REVIEWS FOR EXAMS.
she gives some group assignments which are fun and you meet other people in your class. she does a review for each exam. the focus is on research so be prepared.
really knows her stuff and makes the lectures interesting. The lectures on depression and stress are something I can really use. she will schedule exam reviews to help students and gives them an opportunity to ask questions. always available before and after class for questions and for career advice.
very cool prof- interesting, gives good reviews

she is very organized, and she gives you a schedule for the semester too. She sticks to the schedule. Her grading is clear and fair. She gives good reviews for each exam. She provides great study guides.
Hard class but really interesting and useful information. She focuses a lot on research articles, but chooses really interesting ones. The class is organized, with some lectures and some group assignments. The grading is fair.
AWESOME PROFESSOR
I could use what I learned in class in my life to lower stress !! Great lectures and well organized class with some group work. Fair grader and gives terrific reviews! Focus on research makes it difficult though.
Really interesting lectures, you dont really have to read the book but it helps a lot. She gives test reviews before the exam and you DONT want to miss those. Easy grading, extra credit was given, and it was pretty hard not to get an A as long as you attended the reviews and came to class fairly often.
She is a very kind and relaxed teacher, so her lectures were pretty cool to listen to. We didn't have homework, quizzes, or attendance grades. We had 3 tests (one is dropped) and no final. Before the tests she would give us practice exams (not for a grade) that were EXACTLY like the tests, so if you never show up to class you'd probably still pass.
Took Mangold for abnormal and physiological psychology. She's wacky for sure, but very very smart! She teaches from the lecture quite a bit, but she's great at explaining difficult concepts.
Hard to fail I would absolutely take her!
