She is incredibly helpful and funny. She makes class fun and is really encouraging. The class work isn't hard but there is a lot of it
No Comments
she's a great teacher, you'll learn more about color than you ever wanted to.....she makes it fun and interesting... but there is a TON of work. hard, but worth it.
mosch is so aweasome
There certainly is a lot of work to do for this class, but you will come away with an excellent understanding of the subject matter that will help you in your future endeavors, especially if its painting.
she is the Color Theory Nazy
I love her. She is one of the best in the foundations department.
Very challenging and expects perfection.
She's a Metals and Jewlery Major: She'll get you probably after the 2nd project. She's all about neatness and perfection.
if you're a suck up, take her class
Fabulous and witty, she really gets it. Very tough but raises the bar for excellence. All projects very specific, purposeful. Extra help whenever needed. If you want to learn and grow a ton, and are willing to do what it takes, take every course this professor teaches. Follow her lead and you'll be amazed at what you can do.
Shes tough.... very very very very very tough. First day she warns u shes the hardest there is for 2d and if u cant handle it drop it. if u stay with it tho, u learn a LOT. i didnt know anything before her class and came out with a lot. jus b ready to work your off for a decent grade.

Not helpful, at all. No matter how hard I tried, she never put forth the effort to help me. If I had a question, I would forget my question because she spent 20 min. or more with other students. I even went to help sessions! She spent more time on her laptop than she did helping me. I worked hard and I paid alot of money for nothing. Waste!!!
Going through her Color Theory class was like getting hit in the 'nads with steel toed boots. Painful... She is tough, and if you want a challenge, take her. Very "Do it yourself", though she did provide ample time for any questions. I just didn't get her class and after the second assignment skirted by and got a D.
Mosch was the BEST teacher i have EVER had at SCAD!! she gives a lot of work, but its completely worth it. everything she teaches makes sense, and if it doesnt, then ask to repeat and she will probably give you an example about food to understand better. if you are willing to work your butt off, but lean a lot, take her! (2D and color theory)
Mosch is amazing. She is verrrrryyyyy tough, her assignments will give you much stress and many sleepless nights. Although if you are willing to work hard, you will learn alot in this class and become a better artist. Make sure you read her directions carefully or else your grade will suffer!
Deborah is a great teacher. I don't know why she doesn't have a better rating. She's really fun and kind. She does however push you but its because she wants you to get better. Her explanations of the projects can leave you confused at times, but her classroom atmosphere is great. Take if you want to be challenged.
Professor Mosch is the best! Her projects are really hard and very time consuming, but you will learn so much and leave with excellent portfolio pieces if you put in the time and effort. Be sure to ask questions and read the assignment sheets over and over. Always follow her directions precisely and you will do fine. She is an excellent teacher!
Prof Mosch is hilarious and you do actually learn stuff from her!
Deborah knows what she's talking about, you will learn in her class. As others have said it is pretty tough. She isn't always the most helpful professor, and to me she was always just kind of fake nice, and you could tell by the way she looked at you. if you like to suck up you're good to go. if you really like nonobjective art its all you will do.
She was a riot in class. The assignments were a bit demanding and she craved for perfect craftsmanship. She had her favorites, but when someone else had work worth while she gave them the proper praise.
She is as helpful as a tattered textbook. Maybe if she spent as much time helping her students as she did behind her laptop her class would be worth the money. She told me multiple times that she "didn't know" when I asked her questions about a project she assigned. She dislikes certain students for no reason at all. No matter how hard they work.
Class was always enjoyable in Mosch's class. I knew she would remember to have fun haha. The class is hard and you spend quite a bit of time at the ol' drawin board but here directions are clear and she is always willing to give you her opinion. She would rather you solve your own problems but will never say no to ask a question. Taking her agian!
She's a sweet woman and very funny. She does show some favoritism and her class is extremely difficult. if you can't paint you're screwed. As sweet as she is, dont take the class unless you can help it because you dont learn anymore than any other class its just harder.
She's really nice to everyone but kinda fake. I don't think she really knows what she's doing sometimes. she's always saying" I don't know..." and it's kinda annoying to me. she's really good at color but i don't think she's that helpful :(
despite the hype, i was disappointed. she's real good with color and will teach you alot, but the projects are really boring and not portfolio worthy. very unhelpful when you ask her questions. she will tell you everything except the answers. lots of studio time which i didn't like. had faves, but she's still a fair grader. overall:not worth taking
Her class is work-intensive. She stresses non-objective work, so if you hate it with a burning firey passion, don't take it. All in all, great professor. She is the best in her field. (2D/Color Theory) As for favorites go, she's obviously going to like the people that show effort: don't slack off and she'll like you. End of story.
Mosch plays favorites, even with students who work hard. As a performing arts major, my work in 2D non-objective design wasn't on par with that of my industrial and 2D design major peers. Despite that, I was routinely given grades of C and D without explanation, or I was counted off for using media or layouts that other students used penalty-free.
She wants to train your eye and pushes you to figure it out the hard way, so lots of work but you'll never see color the same way again. She won't take late work and expects great craftsmanship. Its all solid acrylics. Assignments start off tedious and annoying but they get better as you apply your cumulative knowledge. Shes funny and professional
Her color theory class is a very/EXTREMELY work intensive class. The class is pretty fast paced and she had us doing multiple projects a week. She'd pile us with so much homework and information that 90% of the class would be confused most of the time, but she usually has a help session every friday to make up for it. A's are rare in her class.
She really is a great professor. She may seem like she plays favorites but take a genuine interest in her assignments instead of "this is stupid" or "how does this apply to my major" because that will really pay off. Also If something is unclear she will gladly help you! Any time I needed help she would not hesitate. I highly recommend her! GREA
If you take on this class as a quest for perfection, you will do so well. I think doing that will benefit you so well!!! She is fantastic and knows what she is talking about and she also wants you to know what we are talking about too! She loves her classes...the last day of class she let us know how much she enjoyed being with us and teaching us.
On the first day she really intimidated me but as the quarter went on I found I really liked her. She gives you lots of work but its doable and will allot time in class for work as well. I found her class to be easy but I also learned alot. She's a great professor and person and I would take her again in a heartbeat!!
Expect 2 to 3 projects simultaneously. BE AWARE: there are progress checks every class, & if your work isn't there, you will lose a letter grade (or more) per project. She really plays favorites, you notice in critiques and grading. Her directions are very unclear, you have to translate these awfully written paragraphs for what you think she wants.
DO NOT RECOMMEND, Expect many projects simultaneously, Intense amounts of homework, unclear directions and very harsh grader, progress checks are every class and if you ever are missing something are did not to it to her requirements you will get atleast a letter grade off that project. Unneccesary struggle to get through this class.
Really energetic. Although the class is pretty difficult, she's really encouraging and helps a lot. I really enjoyed her class and learned a lot.
I went into this class absolutely excited by the topic and have been extremely disappointed. She plays favorites and completely disrespects any student she doesn't like. Assignments due every class and if you do not perform to her standards, expect huge points deductions. Fantastic if she likes you, but hell if she doesn't.
She's very helpful with all questions I asked. She does demos for all you need to know for the class and also, the projects. She's tight with deadlines but that's what you need to succeed. Btw, I don't see any favor-game from her, she will appreciate you if you commit and work hard.
very unclear directions.doesn't answer questions and gives multiple projects at the same time.
This professor is very unclear. She does clearly tell you project guidelines. If you don't hear her/miss class you will mess up. The grading system makes it difficult to make a good grade. She picks favorites. And is rude when asked a question and can't answer you because she doesn't know her own requirements. She is very forgetful.
She is a nice woman but she wasnt clear on any of the projects. I didnt have much painting experiance which id say is important for this class. No matter how hard I worked I was knocked down when it came to grading, even though I came to her but she didnt really give me any direction to go in. Be perpared for alot of work.
Had her for color theory, very good at getting you to learn the material. she is a very harsh grader though. The drop off after getting the assignment exactly right is very steep. I ended up with pretty much nothing but As and then Ds and Fs. She wont outright fail you for your final grade if you give your all though.
I don't know what prof everyone else had but in my class, Mosch was very clear with assignments/deadlines. When you start working on them you have no idea what you're doing but somehow everyone in the class figured it out. Values creativity and a positive mood in class. Tip: use lots of tones! She loves them. Sweet lady.
Professor Mosch's class wasn't too difficult. As long as you were there for the demonstrations you didn't really have too much of a problem when doing projects. She really likes students that speak up in critiques. She was quirky, but she made class interesting. Worth taking.
Her projects were fun and she is always willing to help. I would recommend her as a teacher!!
She gave me an A for every single project, but in the end, she gave me a B. I really disliked her class. Didn't learn a thing, and spent lots of money in material that I will never use. Don't take her.
Lover her. I had her for 2D and color theory, you will learn A LOT. I highly recommend her for illustrators/painters. Especially her color theory class. Appreciates style but doesn't let you get stuck. She's a huge inspiration in my work. Prior art experience will really help. She's hard if you have no idea what you're doing and don't care at all.
Great class. Professor Mosch is outstanding. She is very attentive to her students and genuinely shows interest in what they are doing. Had challenging assignments, however these projects helped students to learn and put forth what was being taught in the classroom. I would really recommend taking this class. You will learn a ton about color !
Professor Mosch is one of the best SCAD has to offer. She was incredibly helpful and patient even though my major isn't remotely related to visual design. She is not an easy grader. You will have to work for an A, but it's entirely achievable. Take her for a challenging and educational class.
Hands down one of the most valuable I have ever attended (I'm a grad student) and among the top 3 best professors. This class is a lot of work, very demanding of your brain and your time and you will learn boatloads if you are open to it. I can't wait to take advanced color theory. Mind blowing, life changing, artist creating subject matter.
Very challenging class, conceptually, and very rewarding. Lots of work, lots of acrylic, which I had zero experience. I did not expect to enjoy but ended up loving it. I recommend taking Mosch's classes any opportunity.
Prof. Mosch is extremly nice. You have to do three things to get a good grade. Draw shapes and lines that don't look like a person, animal, flower, or object. Do the small amount of homework, in your sketchbook before class, she WILL check it. Turn the assignment in on time.
If you HAVE to take Color Theory, and you are not the best painter, DO NOT take Deborah Mosch. She will completely leave you in the dark after the first day, not pay any attention to you, and tell you to get a tutor. She gives all the attention to the more talented kids and
Great teacher. Lots of room to do your own thing, if you can articulate it well. And even if you can't... You get what you put in with Mosch. She allows your interests to guide your project, which is the entire quarter long. Working on one personal series of art for two months is a great experience.
This is the simply the BEST color theory teacher out there. To succeed you need to do three things. 1. stay away from anything that is recognizable (people, flowers, trees) keep it only non objective and all about the color! 2. She LOVES tones, and you will too! 3. DO THE SKETCHBOOK! every single time! I love Deborah! she is incredible!
"Deborah Mosch is a color goddess. Everything she says is true and useful in every aspect of life. All praise Deborah" "Deborah Mosch has the most sophisticated sense of color and has developed her own unique way of teaching so that it is accessible to everyone. I owe all of my color knowledge to her!" "Deborah Mosch is literally perfect."
Learned so much in this class! If you listen to her and put on the effort, you will receive a good grade. She makes sure you understand the concepts and gives helpful feedbacks for your work. Sometimes she may change moods from time to time, but all in all, an extremely nice and loving teacher. Take her design class!
While she is passionate about her classes (especially color theory), she does play favorites, and if you hit the mines and get her to dislike you, don't even bother, she won't really help you. And if you have no drawing skills (like me) Then I wish luck to you. ADVICE: suck up, do what she wants and you should be fine.
Professor Mosch is amazing! She honestly cares for her students. You learn a ton about design elements and principles and how to apply them. If you follow directions, meet the deadlines, and pay attention, you'll do well. She is awesome and I can't wait to have her again for Color Theory!
Good teacher. Very nice
Deborah is a goddess among men. I have taken her for three classes so far and I have got to say I am obsessed. EVERYONE should take this course. Her knowledge of color is amazing, and as long as you are ready and willing to learn, you will. I owe everything I know about color to this woman, if you have any interest at all in color TAKE THIS CLASS
Deborah is my favorite professor at this school. She is enthusiastic, talented, and always willing to help. She's a sweetheart and I would take her a million times more for her teaching style. Do the work and you will come out a better artist.
I started out this class not particularly liking Mosch, but by the end of the quarter she was my favorite professor. This class is not an easy A, but you will come out learning a lot about design if you put in the work and take her advice. Be prepared to work hard, but most importantly listen to her and get to know her. She is a wonderful lady!!
Deborah's first words to our class were "welcome to Savannah, it's hot as hell here." I liked her and I learned a lot. She is very stylized in her own work and she expects you to have the same style. (non-objective, lots of lines, and UNSATURATED). That has to be her favorite word. This class is much more fun to take with friends/neighbors.
Professor Mosch is by far the kindest lady. She does like artwork to be in her style but if you do it her way, it's a piece of cake. Due dates are a MUST! She does not like when you don't turn something in. I learned so much from her and she teaches you to be a professional for the future. I would HIGHLY recommend her! Plus she keeps you laughing.
Mosch is amazing, I learned so much from her! She isn't that hard if you keep on top of your homework, though it does tend to pile up rather quickly. She's a very nice person as well.
I thoroughly loved her class! Very clear and room for creative freedom. She is very inspiring and her assignments are fun! She is nice and very funny. Her critics are very formal and helpful (non stress inducing). However, she is a stickler for craftsmanship (I didn't find that hard at all). I wish I could take her class again! Take this class!
Professor Mosch is both a brilliant and kind teacher. The projects she assigns are original, and the class as a whole was extremely informative with a laid-back atmosphere.
Prof. Mosch is my favorite teacher at SCAD! I loved her class and cant wait to take her again. You either love her or you dont. If you want to learn and are enthusiastic she will be there for you 100% Shes super nice, and will give real feedback on your work.
Will not take again
Both my roommate and i had her and both agreed it was the worst class we took so far. she wants things a specific way but is very unclear which is extremely frustrating. A lot of work. Don't Take!
She is a nice lady and all but she doesn't understand that we don't just take her class and have other work to do. She gives a tone of work after every single class, it's hard to keep up sometimes.
Mosch is one of those teachers who you'll like if you're good at what she wants. She is extremely nice and funny, and gives good feedback. But sometimes it feels like she's trying to cram too much into one project, and she doesn't take projects one at a time. You also ONLY work with acrylic paint.
She likes people who work hard.
Mosch is a really nice and funny person and knows a lot about color theory, but she gives so much work. I had 8-10 hours of homework a night. Also if you do not like painting do not take this class it is all acrylics. I felt like I was learning to paint not color theory.
Professor Mosch is absolutely brilliant with color and design. You will learn so much from her, but you have to work very hard in this class. Do not take if you are not willing to put in hours and hours of work on projects.
Deborah is by far the BEST professor I've had at SCAD. She is passionate about color, art and life in general and so sweet and funny. The students who aren't happy with her are the ones who do not want to be engaged in the class and just want an easy A. We are at a rigorous art school - shouldn't we want to be pushed to be better? Take her.
Professor Mosch is engaging and passionate. Her class uses acrylic paints and is extremely rigorous, only take her if you want to work hard and learn a lot. She encourages creativity and research on topics that interest you to influence your designs. She is invested in students success and will give you the tools necessary to succeed in your major.
Prof. Mosch is a passionate professor and she cares about her students. She is extremely particular about the colors used in class and only allows the use of the primaries to create your colors for each assignment. Participation in critique and during her demoslectures is important to your success. She is quirky and engaging. Deadlines are strict!
I've learned more about design, color and life skills in her Color Theory class than ever before. She is one of the hardest professors for Color Theory and deadlines are strict! I had at least 6 hours of homework every other night if I wanted to fully understand what she was teaching me. You have to work very hard for this class, she will push you!
Here's the thing about learning: it's an active process, esp w the artistic process. You must engage or you cheat yourself. Color is phenomenal, not formulaic. If you want an easy A, go elsewhere. Mosch will hand you the golden tools but you have to do the work, which takes time. She'll give you a map, but you have to be willing to take the trip.
She is a very nice and wonderful teacher that will push you in order to learn. I have learned a lot about the principles and elements of design from her that I can apply to other projects from here on out. You will use the book a lot and there are only 2 tests (midterm and final) that are very short. Would definitely take this class again!
Had her for Design 1 and color theory. Her classes are very fast paced, strict on deadlines; she introduces/wants progress on the next project before the current one is due. Assignments are challenging but fun and allow room for creativity. She gives great feedback when asked & is an amazing woman!! Not an easy A but you will learn a lot. She cares
Mosch was definitely not my favorite teacher but she was okay. She's passionate about what she teaches and expects you to put in the hard work and earn the grades. There are times when she can get on your nerves, especially if you debate over a critique, but overall she wasn't to bad.
Professor Mosch is INCREDIBLE. She will laugh with you, cry with you, and teach you so much. Highly recommend her to anyone.
I absolutely loved her class she was very willing to help if you ask. She really appreciates professionalism and is very encouraging. Stay on her good side she's the time of person to help you out with recommendations and referencing
Her classes are a LOT of work. She's fun and helpful and not a tough grader. But you'll definitely pull an all nighter here and there.
This woman lives and breathes color theory. She is extremely passionate about what she does. The demonstrations are kind of long, but I think they were all extremely informative. Expect a lot of painting.
I LOVE Prof. Mosch. She has a quirky sense of humor and she cares so much about her students. I would definitely take her again. You do have a lot of homework, but I learned so much in Color Theory. She has progress checks every class that you are graded on, so DON'T lose the sheets and DON'T procrastinate.
Very funny lady. Lots of work needs to be put in, she is the toughest color theory professor at SCAD. If your style is not aligned with her liking then there might be some issues. Do all the sketchbook work! Strict on deadlines.
Mosch is extremely passionate about her work. She's the first person I've met that genuinely LOVES color. We did have to buy her book, but it functioned as the course outline and was EXTREMELY helpful. I learned a lot just within the first week. She completely changed the way I view the world. She is understanding and supportive. Don't slack off!
If you REALLY want to learn the ins and outs of color, Mosch is a must. Color theory isn't a hobby for her, it really is her passion. However, this means that she expects a lot out of her students. Her assignments can be pretty tough and she's a harder grader than you'd think. Nevertheless, she's a wonderful person and you learn a lot from her.
The projects are all abstract designs, which I think personally help focus on the color aspect. All acrylic paint. The abstract projects help level the quality between student work, you dont need to be good at drawing to take this class. This has been my favorite class I've taken at scad so far, my peers were incredible and kind, and Mosch is great
Great professor and person! She likes to give opinions and change her mind. Do as she says and you'll do great. The textbook is written by her and is the same as her lectures but read it because there are several pop quizzes. Make sure to show up and keep up with your studies. The process book is probably the most important thing you own.
This woman is literally the class's color mom. She is very passionate about what she does. But, that being said, her projects demand attention and time... lots and lots of time. She will give you feedback in class but expects you to work a lot on your own outside of class. This class is all painting so if you're not into that I wouldn't take.
Professor Mosch's class is EXTREMELY organized. I truly appreciate the degree of thought she puts into each assignment and the time she takes to help with the research process. I learned a lot about color, the artistic process, and creating strong compositions. I highly recommend her course!
what an amazing professor!!! seriously she gives amazing feedback that doesn't tear you down but is constructive, and even though she gives a fair amount of work, its never something crazy difficult or super time consuming. overall a great experience and a very knowledgable professor!
The single worst professor ever. I changed majors because of the experience in her class.
