Very challenging assignments, but she is willing to work with students either in class or during office hours. "A" is achievable with a little thought and effort.
She was very straight forward, picky even, but it made me learn that much more. She explained what she expected and was 100% available to help! She has an imaculate understanding of the material taught and she is willing to explain everything. I learned so much from her.
Dr. Nester is Awesome! Easy "A" Just do your work and take her your paper. She will help make corrections so you can earn an "A". Very interested in your success as a student. I loved her compared to my pompous ENC1101 Prof.Guess who? Yeh, Dr. Brooks! I wished I knew about Dr. Nester back then!
She's amazing. I'm lucky to have had her for Comp II and now i'm taking her again for World Lit. She's passionate and she'll get you thinking outside the box. You'll get a great grade if you just read, participate, and try your best. Anyone would be lucky to have her for Comp I,II or any other of her classes.
Dr. Nester is a sincere gift of brillance. I have taken Dr. Nester two previous times and her essence is rather captivating. You can look in her eyes and know that she is the best at what she does. There is none like her.
Dr. Nester is by far the best instructor I have ever had. I learned so much anout writing in her class and that gift has continued to carry me through college. Her classes are challenging and sometimes difficult, but so worth it. Dr. Nester is very helpful. She will encourage students to visit her office and one should do so It ensures an A!
I hate English. That said Dr. Nester is good stuff. She could easily be teaching at a more famous university. The only thing about her is that she's very scatterbrained, and at times disorganized. But don't get stuck with a teacher like Nichols, when you could have a real teacher like Nester.
wonderful teacher!! always there when you need her, she will answer any questions you have and go over everything with you one-on-one!!
Great teacher! Knows her stuff. Lots of writing, but intresting topics. Easy to contact and works with you when you are having trouble with the material.
Dr. Nester is the best! For students who hate English, I suggest taking this class. She's very helpful and willing to take time with her students. Look forward to some analyzing in her class on everything you read. It's like psychology, philosophy, and reading combined!
She's the best teacher in the world! For a teacher to make old and dead literature interesting, she has to be wonderful!
Best professor...ever. Ask yourself...Why would you not take this teacher?
Dr. Nester is an excellent professor! Her class isn't "easy," but she is willing to go 110% to help any student that wants or needs help. Not only is she a brilliant mind, she is also very kind and generous, although she can come across as a bit strict in her classroom. Pay attention, participate, and try your best and she will help you succeed.
ANY of Dr. Nesters writing classes should be the VERY first you take as a freshman.(ENC1101 to start) because it will impact all of your other classes, hands down. Her wonderful "caffeinated hummingbird" approach to class is refreshing and mind-boggling at the same time. She's one of the most interesting and intelligent woman you'll ever meet.
Never underestimate the power of this woman. She, by far, rates in the top five of professors I love. Very intelligent. Very Friendly. Very passionate. And will bring out the best in any student. Easy class to get an A in, as long as you do the EASY assignments. She takes the Snoreville world of Literature and turns it into a masterpiece.
Dr. Nester is an amazing teacher. If you pay attention, turn your work in on time, ask questions you should get an easy A. I had her for fast track in the summer, I would reccommend doing this because she does MORE work in her regular semesters. ASK HER QUESTIONS! She loves to answer them. If you are always tardy, DO NOT TAKE HER, she HATES tardies
Would not help when special circumstances came up
I just had to comment on the last note. I had a family emergency during the semester, and she was amazingly helpful to me in organizing my work and getting through it. From experience, the only time she is not helpful with "special circumstances" is when they are lied or exagerated.
Love this class! Dr. Nester has lots of energy and great backgound for teaching this class. She will give you all the help needed all you have to do is ask. This class is easy if you can follow directions and be on time. Her World Lit. II class is great too!
WOW! I did not look forward to taking this class! (I hate essays!!!) But Dr. Nester changed that! She made a hard class enjoyable! Waring she comes of as a hard teacher the first coulpe of classes but then changes into a woulderful teacher (one of the best classes I've had at OWC) Thanks!!!
Dr. Nester is a genius when it comes to English. She is very clear, and her methods to teach you are excellent. If you act like an adult, be on time for class, and treat her class with respect, she will do the same for you. I recommend her class definately for ENC1101 and I plan to take ENC1102 with her as well. :D
WORST teacher by far! She is very uptight, cold, and thinks she walks on water. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS if you have kids, a job, or even a vehicle that could possibly break down because she is uncaring.
Dr. Nester is a wonderful teacher. She is very helpful all you have to do is ask. I would take her again. She is a awsome teacher and loves what she does.
Very enthusiastic about what she teaches but it is still a very difficult class. If you work full-time; do not take any other class in the same semester, all of your free time will belong to this class.
Dr. Nester is a good teacher although the curriculum is boring to me. I did the work and got a B, just pay attention (although hard to do) and youll be fine!
Outstanding teacher. I loved her. I hated english classes before I took her's. I have never done very well in english classes but made a high A She is very helpful outside of class make use of the time she offers in her office but dont be late for class she hates tarties. I would take her again if I had more english classes wish i had taken 1101 to
I wanted to take Jack Gill for 1101 but after I finished with Dr.Nester I was very pleased with her teaching skills. I will take her again for 1102.
I think she does a great job. I will definitely be taking her for ENC1102.
Great Teacher! Make sure and take her for World Lit! She really enjoys the class and makes it alot of fun! Comp II was alot of fun too, but lots of paper writing! Highly Recommended!
she is very strict with papers, dont ever forget an assignment, and she has a temper. Although she knows what she is talking about, she has a disciplined way of handling it. I was a good write I thought, until she used her grading on my papers and for her class i'm makig a C. Its the hardest class i've takne in awhile. GOOD LUCK!
She was an amazing teacher and I loved her class. I didnt work too hard on the papers but I still got a good grade. She makes the class fun and interesting.
I took her online course. I loved it. A lot of writing. I believe our last paper was 2,000 to 3,000 words. 3,000 much better grade. I received a B in the class. She is very helpful if you show effort. If you want to skim by, this is not the class for you.
She marked me off for "not editing" because the first word on every line was not different from the last draft. I asked her to help me with MLA. She couldn't tell me how to do it, and she STILL marked me off.
LOTS of writing! Lectures are dull but fairly to the point. I took this fast track so it may have seemed a little more difficult then normal but I still got an A.
I don't know why I liked her, but I did. Her class was really hard for me considering I hadn't taken a english class in over 5 years. She grades her papers VERY hard and she is VERY particular. I think she might be slightly OCD. However, she is very helpful and can give you good advice. If you want an easy A DO NOT TAKE HER!!
definately a good teacher!teaches you exactly what you need to know, before moving on to get bachelors degree or higher.my class only wrote 3 papers in her class.but with that, comes the stipulation that you write those three papers well.she gives plenty of time to write your paper, and encourages you to ask her if you need help.
she thinks tardies are rude, so keep that in mind. she will teach you a skill that you will master and use in the rest of you college career. no tests in her class. no midterm either. understanding about circumstances if you actually TRY in her class. if you sleep everyday and late a lot, dont expect her to help you out, which is understandable!
I am finishing up my last paper for this class now. I'm taking her class online and wouldn't recommend it. It's more difficult but she is willing to help if you make the effort. She expects a lot for her papers, but if you do the work you can make a decent grade.
She is a clear example of a teacher who was not taught how to teach. She will help you out cause it is very hard to understand her rambling. Not a bad teacher at all if you dont mind actually doing work.
To me this class was a pain. She was never happy with my writing. Research paper was also a pain. Would not by the "required books", never opened them.
Simply put: if you have a strong work ethic and care about the subject matter, Dr.Nester will be a PERFECT professor for you. If you do not care are lazy, and below the intellectual par, you will probably whine about it and post negative comments about her here. She is truly a great professor, end of story.
She is a very interesting professor. I have taken her classes for both ENC 1101 and 1102. If you put in the effort in her class you get a good grade. She will help with any paper and with any questions you just have to ask her for help. I recommend her to everyone.
I took this course on-line, which made it a little more difficult; however, Dr. Nester is top in her field and willing to help with any question or problem that may arise. Her confidence in this subject is easily justified in her ability to teach it. Show interest in this subject and you will do well. If you want to learn how to write and understan
Dr. Nester is one of my favorite professors. English 2 was a definite challenge. Find help for this class, I had a lot of thinking and editing help, both from family and from Dr. Nester. ASK HER QUESTIONS! She takes you step by step in the analyzing and writing process - follow her instructions. Enjoyed the class, my english got a lot better.
Unless you want to be a Journalist DONT TAKE HER. Excpects you to be able to write like a professonal author!
Very sweet woman. Open to helping anyway she can. I took her fast-track summer course and it was very demanding and... well... fast! But I passed with an A and definetly improved my writing and analyzing skills. Would reccomend only to the serious students.
very hard. will make you good at writing by the end. she will not give many a's.
Nester has you write papers in stages and turn them in. you write numberous papers at the same time and its gets confusing on what stage each paper is on and when to turn it in. ALWAYS ASK FOR BONUS QUSTIONS they help a little and do the extra credit if given. Very unorganized.
Had her for World Lit 1, not much reading. Lots of pages but it's easy to get through. She doesn't care if you miss class, just get the assignment from somebody else. Makes you write a lot. The class portion is such a snooze. Just come to class with ideas and comments about what you read and you'll be fine. No tests, only grades are essays.
Shes very helpful. However shes very hard, scatterbrained, and changes her mind a lot. I would not recommend taking her unless you want to fail. She doesn't teach and has very high expectations that no one can meet. She teachers the class like a graduate class. She is helpful but you'll leave with more questions than you came in with
Her method of teaching is through in class discussions and further research on your part. She has a very active and creative mind that can cause her to become scatter-brained at time but everything she says is very enlightening. Work load isn?t that bad, 10-20 pt assignments each week then a paper every month or 2
Was dreading 1102 and thought she was going to be a nightmare after going through the syllabus. BUT, I did somewhat enjoy the class and I got an A because I did what she asked. Don't be late, don't have lots of absences, show interest, pay attention and ask her for help! Participate in class! Don't take her if you don't want to be challenged.
over all i learned a lot from her in her English class and she was always very helpful
I heard she was a difficult professor prior to taking the class. She is a VERY fair teacher; you get what you earn. If you participate, show an interest, and do all of the assignments on time, then you will you breeze through the class. She makes English fun and makes you think.
I took her class in '06 and I wish every one of my teachers were just like her. I loved her.You have to do your assignments and go to class, but other than that I enjoyed our class discussions and she was helpful with topics and ideas. This class really helped my research skills. I Would've taken another one of her classes but I moved. Excellent!
She's to nit picky for me, but she is very helpful. If your looking for an A I would take a different class.
Dr. Nester is very sarcastic, but in an extremely funny and relevant way. I'm so glad I took her, but if you're not willing to put in the work then don't even try to take her because you will not pass. However she offers a ton of extra credit and has great advice. I will def be taking her for Comp 2 next semester
She takes unreasonable amounts of time to return papers back graded. I graduated HS with over a 4.0 GPA, and I thought this class was difficult. She is EXTREMELY nit picky. She will penalize the smallest mistake. Dr. Nester is unorganized, and she often assigned one paper while we were still working on the previous one. I would not recomend her.
Very spacey teacher... would often have papers overlap each other, so we'd be working on multiple papers at a time. Really unorganized; took FOREVER to return papers. She knows what she's talking about, but she is difficult because of her lack of organization. Easy class, but you have to be really organized to keep up with her.
She is very scattered brained. She often starts talking about one thing then switches to a new subject before finishing her sentence. She doesnt explain things very well and expects you to already know how to do certain things. She NEVER returns work. Takes points off for every little thing.
Dr. Nester is a very challenging professor. If you take time to see her during office hours, it will definately help your grade. I loved this class d am looking forward to having her for World Lit. She is very FAIR and cares about what you lean from her. Numerous bonus opportunities! Class discussions are fun and interesting!
Dr. Nester is extremely engaged in her teaching. She is a little scatter brained at times but if you're attentive to the discussion and hang in there, a payoff is usually coming. I've spent hours alongside her in her office slaving over my papers. Not an easy class, but extremely rewarding and you will have made a friend in Dr. Nester by the end.
She has almost no common sense! She also cannot stay on track during lectures! Some people may find her helpful but she is awful for me!
Challenging assignments, but doable. Very understanding if students talk to her in her office or in person. If a student is having trouble understanding or completing an assignment, and is not just slacking off, Dr. Nester is very eager to help.
I had her for English comp. 1 and was very impressed by how much she cares if you care.
She is a challenging professor and for people interested in later attending a university, her class does a good job of preparing you for the type of work that is expected in upper-level classes. Her lectures are okay and to be honest she seems vastly overqualified to be teaching 1102 at such a small school. Take her if you genuinely want to improve
I love this lady! She is very eccentric, but in the best way. She requires a lot from you, but will give just as much back. I learned so much in this class and encourage you to go into her office with questions! She likes to help her students and will clarify so much if you have any confusion.
This is a really wonderful and nice woman. I took her for a fast track summer course. The amount of homework is reasonable. She will help you if you ask.
VERY RUDE....
This woman cant stay on track to save her life. Very disorganized and acts nervous about teaching. And the other comments are true about her being rude.
This teacher is long-winded and she will keep you in class even after the lesson is over just to use up the allotted time. She gets upset easily if you come in late or don't take notes on everything she says. Avoid sitting in the back because she will categorize those people as bad kids on the first day. Take advantage of bonus opportunities.
uhhhhhhhh, she's scatterbrained but will make sure you pass
she really has no common sense, will talk endlessly about topics that do not pertain to the task at hand. if you dont participate you probably wont pass because participation is half of the credit for the class. even if you are there everyday. her paper topics are more like graduate student topics rather than first year undergrad. i would not take
First day of class I was warned by her former student not to get on her bad side, and give her what she asks for on assignments. Good advice! She likes things her way, and gives handouts to put you on track. 400 word essays are common, 2 big projects (400-500 words per section, up to 1250 for the paper). Limited reading, definite MLA writing class.
I really enjoyed her class. She will not accept anything late, but the work load is very reasonable. She gets off topic a lot, but she is ultimately a nice and helpful teacher. If I had another opportunity to take another one of her classes I would.
Massive amounts of favoritism just flow from this teacher, who loves to talk endlessly and get sidetracked by the simplest things. God forbid you get on her bad side early on you are doomed. Best thing to do to get through her class is to keep her expectations low, as they influence the harshness of her grading. Good Luck. P.S. pick someone else.
During lectures she will pause and stare off into nothing and then start on a completely different subject, she is very scatterbrained. The papers are 1000+ and before you turn it in make sure you check her 9 page checklist of things to do or not do. If your rough draft isn't up to her expectations she will mark you absent for class that day.
If you are a good writer and like a challenge then i recommend this class, she is very caring and will help as much as you can. If you are lazy, do not take this, it is a hard class.
Dr. Nester is NOT an easy A. She will push you and she expects a lot from her students. I did walk away from her class feeling like my grade was fair and that I learned a LOT about paper composition.
She was difficult, but fair and willing to help!
Dr. Nester is a solid professor. She is fairly scatterbrained and kind of slow, but she is kind and caring. She will happily meet with you to help you in any way possible with any part of any assignment. Her class isn't necessarily easy but she grades fairly and genuinely loves to teach her students.
She is very tough and if you don't make a good impression with her, she will be even more tough to get positive feedback from. Always double check the information she gives you on project dates or she will forget.
Dr. Nester is really pretty awesome. I think some students dislike that she can ramble, but that helps me because that's how I am. Honestly, if you actually try in the class, you probably will do alright, but if you talk to her about everything, I guarantee you you'll do well. She's an great professor, and I'd love to have her as my professor again
Fantastic professor. I love her class. She rambles some, but she's pretty easy to keep up with. You put in the time for the class and talk to her about your concerns - you're golden. You'll do just fine. She's really easy to talk to about things. Definitely would recommend to other students
You do not have to be a strong writer to do well in this class, you just have to put forth time and effort. She is unorganized and vague, but has good opinions and will force you to be a better writer. If you cannot make a class let her know and she will help you and appreciate that you reached out to her. Seriously, communication is key with her.
She is annoyingly specific about what she wants it is just because she wanted to do things right. Unstimulating class due to lectures. She asks the class options on what we would prefer and didn't make us present anything because she didn't want to make anyone uncomfortable. I trusted her feedback and she gave lots of it. Available outside of class
She is all over the place with her teaching. Her lectures are so boring and there is nothing new that you will learn hardly. She is a tough grader. Topics are difficult at times and she is slow at giving feedback unless you ask in person. Her advice is not really helpful. She gives bonuses but not for many points. She grades slow.
She's super articulate & passionate about world literature. Textbooks are just 3 volumes of an anthology (normal sized books), do the readings & you'll be fine. She switches assignments up by class but I had - 8 reading responses (4 by midterm, 4 by end of semester) - Major analytical essay - Historical artifact project (easy) - Small debate
Dr. Nester was an okay teacher but her grades got back to us so late that by the end of the semester you couldnt even try to fix it. However, she was always there when I came in for office hours. Her lectures in class were meaningless. Do yourself a favor and just take another teacher.
I did not like this professor. She is great at what she does but she is extremely hard to follow through out class. She hops from topic to topic. She will give you a project but not tell you when things are due till the class before. She is an extremely tough essay grader and overall I just didn't have a good experience in her class.
Dr. Nester seems like a good person but some of her criteria seems a bit extreme. A rough draft, for example, she wanted finished with "hours of revision." I 'm not sure how a completely finished essay with hours of revision is considered a rough draft.
Dr. Nester is EXTREMELY specific. Reading everything she gives you carefully is crucial! If you don't then you're probably going to be lost by the time of the 2nd class. Everything must be typed, attendance is critical but not demanding participation wise, and the only way I can see anyone acing her class is devoting whole days to every assignment.
Her class is very difficult. Very specific assingments, senseless rambling lectures, and basically tells you to disregard everything that you learned in Comp I but then gets angry when you do not know how to do certain things. She is great for one on one work, and will make sure you pass if she sees you putting in an effort.
Dr. Nester is very traditional. Make sure your MLA is perfect!! Be sure to get face time and office hourse before mid term starts, after midterm all of her students start freaking out and trying to get help with the papers. Not "mean", just follow instructions and get ready to think abstractly.
Some people dont like her because she is tough but all you have to do is pay attention! Her syllabus is very clear and she is always very specific on how she likes things done. You can tell she wants you to do well, dont take her for granted!
Dr. Nester is a professor who knows what she is talking about. Her lectures are extremely long, full of rambling, and will not necessarily help you complete your assignments. However, e-mailing her or talking to her outside of class will help each student a ton. She loves hardworkers and people who pay attention, dont slack off and you'll do better
Dr. Nester is very friendly. If you go to her during office hours she gives great feedback and advice. She really cares about her students and cares about her job. She is easy to understand and a good overall teacher. I would take her again. You must put the work in if you want a good grade in this class.
