Great class for Honors students! She gives 50% of people A's and A-'s and you actually learn something (not much, though).
Good teacher, but psycho underneath...nearly failed me because I couldn't be in class for a midterm. Sounds like Joe Pesci in class... "ok, kay, kay, ok, kay, n-kay..." Keep a tally of ok's one day, you'll be surprised.
No homework. Never read book. Exams are the same year after year, so you can study off of other peoples' old ones. Tests are essay style, but she makes it clear what she wants to know. All you have to do is show up to class and you will have an A or a B.
She was by far the most effective professor I have had since I started college. I have retained the knowledge I learned in this class, which I use regularly.
She teaches well and gets her point across, but her grading is all over the place. If she's in a bad mood or being picky expect to loose points if you don't go and fight for them.
I thought the tests were graded kinda hard. She taught fairly well. I don't suggest taking it at an early time because it's boring. She's really mean acting.
If you go to class and take good notes, you'll have no trouble on the midterms. The final was harder because it was multiple choice, but overall she was a very effective teacher. She is loud and makes everything seem easy.
Crazy class but it got you thinking.
Teaches like an elementary teacher. Repeats everything about 10 times. Extremely boring and everything you learn is common sense. Test grades are kind of shady; partial credit is almost non-existant. You can lose 15% on a simple arithmetic mistake.
She is a great teacher. It might seem like she repeats things a lot but it makes the midterms that much easier. She always tells us to do 5 of whatever she has done in class, but as long as you take notes you are fine! Easy exams!
She really made me love economics. Also, forces you to really understand what you are doing in class. A decided plus in that there is absolutely no homework in this class. One of the few very well taught honors classes.
She was a tough nosed professor. She didn't take any crap. She explained things fairly well. There were no surprises in the class. Overall good teacher.
DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!she is so mean and not even willing to help. never gives particle credit her tests are harder than anyother econ200 teacher, take anyone else Help yourself now and do not take her
I don't like economics, and I still don't like it. She's an excellent teacher in a sense that she wants everyone to understand the material. I didn't get much help from office hours. Other than that, it's the best honors course I've taken so far - I actually learned something.
Do not take this professor. Only 2 midterms, and a final. Does curve final grades, but midterms are graded very hard.
decent prof. class is somewhat dry, tough grader, but not too bad. wouldn't recommend unless required.
Tough, but fair, and really knows her stuff! Sarcastic and fun, she obviously enjoys teaching. Don't bother buying the book - long as you show up to class and pay attention, you won't need it. No homework - entire grade is based on exams. Don't miss class - you'll be lost!!
Tries to scare you for the first few weeks of class, but after that she is much nicer. There is no homework and the exams are straight out of the notes. I found the book very helpful, but many did not use it at all. She always kept me interested. Very good professor.
scary at first but fair and funny. helpful and extremely talented in her feild. class is somewhat dull but she tries to make it better. dont recommend the class but recommend parsons.
Holy Crap! She's really great. Very intimidating so some people think she is a heifa but she's always talkin about her kids so she definitely has a soft spot. U just gotta not let her intimidation get to u and respect her and ull have the best time.
She's the best professor ever! Her class is very difficult, but she explains things very well and definately makes sure you understand it. She's a bit scary at first, but very witty and makes the class enjoyable.
Worst teacher ever
Very opinionated, you will never win an argument with her. Grading scale is not fair. I learned more in my high school ecan class.
A great professor, I learned a lot from her lectures.
Best professor ever! I was so nervous to take this class b/c i know nothing about econ but she makes everything sooo clear. A bit intimidating to some at first, if you make an effort you will find she in an incredible woman! Go to office hours if you can. She explains things so well and she doesn't beat around the bush. AWESOME
She made the subject very easy. Her examples explain everything perfectly, and she made the class really fun for everyone. I wouldn't take this class with anyone else.
This is probably one of the best teachers I've had for anything. She's very clear and she doesn't mind going over things with you 10000 times if you don't understand something. The grades are based solely on 2 midterms and the final. That sounds hard but if you listen to her she makes it damn near impossible to fail. PICK THIS LADY!!!
absolutely worst teacher ever! do not ever have this woman as your teacher. i got a C- in her class but i managed to get an A in Econ 201. explain that one. she spent all the lectures going over very simplistic examples in class. we didn't even learn half of what we were supposed to learn in the course. terrible.
If you want a breeze of a course, take her econ 200. I'm an engineering major and I got 95s on both the midterms. Expect to learn alot of very basic economic concepts in very little depth. She did make the course bearable with her enthusiasm.
YOU MUST GO TO LECTURE. Her tests are based in the 90 percentile on her notes. She is difficult though in that her midterms are all written out, supposedly to give partial credit, but it seems like she hardily gives any partial credit, normally if it is wrong but maybe explained partially correct she still won't give any points
Extremely unhelpful. Insulted me in her office hours and accused me of not attending class, which wasnt true. No way to know how she will grade ur midterm, not always how she explains in class.
This prof turned me into an Econ major, I wish that she had taught more classes other than 200 and H200. I graduated last fall and was probably in the top 3 prof I had. If you have questions just ask, she is more than helpful as long as you listen to her. Don't need to buy the book just go to class.
Do not take this class with this teacher. Our first midterm average was about a 59%. Lecture is very unorganized and all over the place. She basically draws graphs the whole time and is very very unstructured. I am a pretty good student but left every class very frustrated.
She is very rude!! First day of class we went around and asked our majors. She made fun of a Sociology major saying she knew the answer before even going to class and a Physical therapy major for massaging athletes for life and told them she it was a waste of an honor's degree. Those poor students were so embarrassed, I felt really bad for them.
Professor Parsons is definitely one of the best professors I have had at Ohio State. She is knowledgeable, funny and sincere about her course and students. What more could one want. I have never had a professor impart so much material in such an entertaining fashion.
LOL to the person two below...you must be in my class. Yes, she is very rude and she did make fun of those majors. She knows what she is talking about but she conveys it through a style of lecturing that may not suit everyone. Her class will esp. suck when u have a kid in class that talks to much and disrupts every1 else's learning w/ dumb Qs

I loved this class. And I'm pre-med... She's great. She's tough and she'll challenge you, but I personally liked her teaching style. And be ready to be a founder of a cookie company : )
I can't believe some of the comments on here about her grading unpredictably; it's very simple - if you go to class and take notes, you will get at least a 90 on each midterm. Fiery and entertaining prof - kept me surprisingly interested with a fairly boring subject such as intro to micro econ. Take Parons if youre taking Econ 200!!!
One of the best Econ Profs. Absolutley hilarious and very knowledgeable.
She is a great professor all around! She is great at teaching the subject and EVERYTHING that she puts on the tests is in lecture. I didn't even open the book and I got and A. If you don't like someone who kinda yells at you and makes you get involved in class then don't take her.
A total witch. Hearing her bark for an hour and a half will give you a splitting headache. Lecture is unfocused and messy, she's unforgivably rude and biased, and you never feel prepared for her midterms. At least the final was a piece of cake. Avoid at all costs.
she's rude, condescending, and yells the ENTIRE time, but there's something humorous about the whole thing. The grading is completely arbitrary and confusing, but it's pretty easy to pass the course. it's also unbelievable easy to get a test score changed. She knows a lot. it makes 201 a breeze. the finals one of the easiest ever.
Tends to ramble off into different areas. Draws a lot of examples and they are pretty much whats on the midterms. Midterms are tougher than the final (fewer questions and higher point values per question, so if you get one wrong, you pretty much lost 15% of your midterm grade)
She is a brilliant teacher who knows her stuff and teaches with clarity and enthusiasm. Her only problem is the fact that she doesn't hand out review sheets for tests.
Kind of intimidating but not so bad after you're there for a while. Good teacher--will hammer away at the basics, you WILL remember them. Go to class and get an A--it's that simple. I went to every class, studied 10 min per test and got > 95 on tests.
Go to class, get a good grade. Most of her questions on the exams are things she has already explicitly gone over in class. She makes the class more interesting by discussing current events in economics as well. Very good professor.
This class could have been cut down to about 4 weeks once you removed all the repetition of the same concepts. Kind of a control freak - stops class to make people move down to the front if there are empty seats, plus she stopped to yell at me once for talking quietly to the person next to me (in a 100 seat lecture hall). Easy but not enjoyable.
This was a pretty easy class. All of the midterms were exactly the same as old midterms other than different numbers on the "math" problems. GO TO CLASS. Everything from the midterms is directly from lecture. Little need to buy the book. Two midterms (25% each) and one final (50 MC questions (50%) make up grade, 350/400 point = A,
Go to lecture! If she repeats herself, that's a test question. She will grind the information into your brain. She gets kind of frustrated when she asks a question and nobody answer, which is understandable. As someone else said, don't bother too much with the book. Maybe do the problems at the end of each chapter.
Awesome prof for this class, extremely interested in what she teaches and very helpful.
Best Prof i've had at OSU! She is so nice and helpful! Just Go to Class and study a little before the midterms and you will be great! If you have to take an honor's GEC, take this one!
Meh, I thought she was rather despondent and standoff-ish. She didn't seem to care whether or not we understood, and when people asked questions she kind of shrugged them off like we were stupid. It did not feel like she was pleased to be there. Don't take as a GEC unless you're mathematically inclined, she assumes a lot.
I thought Dr. Parsons taught the subject matter very well, although she seemed to move quickly at times. It was the type of class where you'd be thinking "I don't understand this, I don't understand this" until you tried a few examples on your own, and then immediately everything fell into place. I liked the teacher and the course a lot.
Parsons rocked. She will not hand you a grade, and you will have to actually learn the material. However, she will teach you EVERYTHING you need to know. Just make sure you recopy the examples she does in class. She talks really fast, so be ready to take notes accordingly. Loved the political analysis'!!! :) A+++
?
at first I was thrown off by Prof Parson's teaching style-- she basically shouts at you. But after my ears adjusted, i thought she was great. don't buy the textbook
At first she seems very intimidating and impersonal, but you get used to her bluntness and on verge of screaming voice that sounds like Katherine Hepburn. The two midterms are exactly like the problems and true, false, uncertain explains she goes through in class and the final is similar to the book in its basic concept questions.
Great Prof, probably my favorite so far at OSU. Go to class! Basically she will tell you everything you need to know to get an A so copy her examples down completely and don't leave out any steps on the problems on the midterm. Don't buy the book, I didn't and still got an A but you will need to try hard.
go to class!! you won't need to study much or read the book, but make sure you attend every class and understand her examples. she's a little intimidating at first, but i loved her by the end of the quarter. 25% first midterm, 25% second midterm, 50% final (which is cake)
Horrible proffessor. Don't get me wrong- the class is easy as long as you pay attention and take notes. Don't buy the book, no matter how much she tells you to. She has a horrible personality. I hated this class because she is simply a bitter, angry old woman, plus she made a **** comment which was very offensive. She is too opinionated.
prof.parsons is hands-down the most AMAZING professor EVER! do not miss an opportunity to be in her class. she's is funny, sarcastic & upbeat, & you "get" the material right away just b/c of her conversational teaching style. & aside from that, she has impressive personal experience which she brings to the table (she is a very high-calibre person)!
Personally, I thought Parsons was a great professor, simply because you learn the material very well. You have a working understanding of why econ works the way it does after you leave her class. Unfortunately, she sometimes grades on semantics. Thus, you'll either "get" the class, or not do so well and not really understand why.
Highly recommended. I've never taken an econ course before and had no prior knowledge of the subject. Her examples and style of teaching made econ very easy to pick up. Did great on show work midterms but choked on the multiple choice final. Still ended up with a B+. You will not win an argument(she gives out some incorrect info on farm operation)
A fairly easy class. Tests are only 1 hour long, so make sure that you pace yourself. Tests follow lecture material exactly. If you go to class, you don't really need to read the book. The entire class was very straightforward. It is not worth arguing with her over weather you test answer is correct of not, you will loose regardless.
Parsons is probably the best Economics teacher The Ohio State University has seen in years. She teachers exactly what you need to know. No essays. Two midterms and a final. No matter what she says, DO NOT BUY THAT BOOK! She tells you to read it but trust me, you do not need to. It is a great class!
GREAT PROFESSOR....seriously take her if you have the opportunity, you will not regret it. Go to class every time, do not buy the book and you will get an A.
Good professor, interesting lectures. She moves quick, and only has one way to explain things. I loved going to class, but on "show work" midterms I tanked by not showing enough - however I am STILL unclear what I didn't show. Still, I learned a lot, and I will probably retake her class to get a higher grade.
She is a great professor. Her class is definitely tough, but she's helpful outside of class if you're struggling. Definitely make sure to show up to every class. It is essential to doing well on her midterms and tests because although the book covers the same topics, her tests are exactly like her lectures.
Go to class. The things she covers in class are the exact topics on the tests. 2 midterms and a final. I spent very little time outside class studying except for before tests.
In this class you will either understand everything or nothing. Make sure you go to class. The book is not that helpful. Ask questions, but this is not a typical class. You entire grade is two midterms and a final, and if you don't understand her teaching method you're screwed.
You will either love her or hate her depending on whether you understand her teaching style. She is very knowledgeable and direct but it almost seems as though she's yelling the material at you. The book is not used, although she tells you to buy it. Attend every lecture and study her examples and you should do well.
This is the easiest class I have taken in college, honors or not. That's not to say it wasnt incredibly boring, but I suspect thats what you get with econ. Just go to class and write down her examples, because she literally does problems in class that show up on exams. If you don't get a 100 on the first exam, its probably your fault, no joke.
I liked this class overall, although it may get boring during last couple weeks of class but she has a knowledge about econ. and she tries to sink in imp. concepts in your mind..her midterms are hard cuz you don't know what is expected as part of an answer and she gives points arbitrarily...
Great prof with a great sense of humor. Made econ about as interesting as possible. GO TO CLASS. She covers things from the textbooks but in her own unique way. Exam questions are exactly like her examples from lecture. I never opened my textbook. Be sure to understand what answer SHE wants you to give, regardless of interpretation. Take her.
Dr. Parsons is a very informative professor, likes to talk about economics and anything happening out there relating to econ. Basically straightforward information she teaches, midterms and final were easy. If I had a chance to take here again, I would, it was an easy A in the class and I barely studied for them. Book is not very helpful though.
Parsons was a very knowledgeable, intriguing professor. She makes economics (a typically boring subject) very interesting, though you have to get used to her barking at you throughout the quarter. DON'T BUY THE BOOK! You won't use it, no matter how many times she says you will. Midterms were easy, final more difficult than expected. Great class.
Awesome teacher. Best I've had at Ohio State thus far. Don't buy the book at all. Go to class and you'll do fine.
She is very good at explaining econ problems. her exams are straight forward. no book needed, just notes. If you don't attend class you will fail, if you attend and take good notes you will get an A. She ends class early and usually she rambles through random topics for 1 hour of the class and you learn for 30 minutes. Recommended to all
Quick witted, funny, and knows what she's talking about! Don't be intimidated by lecture style setup of the classroom (no outlines, etc)--she repeats important points in various lectures. Try to keep up and take notes, especially Graphs! It pays off to ask her to repeat concepts and she's really helpful. For a solid base in economics, take Parsons
Parsons is phenomenal. She makes everything crystal clear while making her lectures thoroughly entertaining. I loved her commentary on anything and everything. Her exams were very straight-forward, and I really did learn a lot in this class even though it was just a GEC.
I thought this class was fun and interesting. She tells you EXACTLY what will be on the midterms. Its pretty much your fault if you don't get an A, because she goes over everything so much. Just take the time to study, and you'll be fine.
She is a great teacher and the subject material is actually very interesting. I'm an engineer so this was a GEC for me but i am really glad i took the class as it sparked somewhat of an econ interest in me. Just dont talk in class or make sarcastic looks when people cant do basic arithmetic in an honors level class. she'll call you out on it.
Professor Parsons is a GREAT teacher!! Not only does she tell you exactly what's going to be on all of the exams, but her funny and witty commentary keeps the class interesting. You pretty much have to go to every class to get all the necessary info, though, and she pretends like you need the textbook when you really don't.
Very easy class. Book is optional but I thought it helped me grasp some concepts. Parsons is a good teacher and I learned a lot. She does not try to trick you in her exams. The exams (2 midterms and a final) are the only grades in the class and come right from what she does in lecture.
Very good teacher. She is very clear in lecture and if you take notes and draw the example graphs she puts on the board an study your notes you will get an A. Textbook use is not really required although it can help, but the class is pretty mug entirely lecture based.
Parsons is a genius, but she has a dry sense of humor that takes some getting used to. She expects a lot of the honors class, so definitely pay attention and TAKE GREAT NOTES. Crystal clear notes/graphs will help you when it comes time for the exams. Exams are easy if you study;no trick q's. 3 exams, no papers or hw. book is helpful but not req'd
One of my favorite professors at OSU. She is very fair, and prepares you for exactly what is on the tests. She's a complete genius, easily one of the smartest people I've ever met. She managed to make Econ 200 pretty fun with her own life stories. I'll take any class she teaches. Very fair/easy grading scale. Attend class and take notes, easy A.
Ms. Parsons is awesome. She's fun and passionate about what she teaches. She has lots of real life applications of the material. If you have the chance take her, even if it's just for an elective. She knows what she's doing and the tests are easy if you go to class and take notes.
This class was absolutely awful! I do NOT recommend this class at all unless you are already amazing at econ. She takes off unnecessary points on exams and later when you talk to her goes "oh should have given you more points". She doesn't help when you go after class and is rude about it.
Prof Parsons is an expert in economics and is the most interesting and respectable teacher I have ever had. Class is never dull and the material she teaches is relevant and will stick with you forever. If she taught more classes, i would take them in a heart beat because I actually leaned useful information and enjoyed the lectures.
She is hilarious. Such an interesting teacher. Sometimes her humor (which can be abrasive in a good way) makes her seem unapproachable but she is really nice. Great teacher. Write down what she says, listen, and practice and it's an easy A. She says to read the textbook but you don't have to. All tests are just on lecture material.
She is funny and interesting to listen to but her lectures can be fast-paced. I found myself getting lost with all of her graphs. She told us we could talk to her after class but she didn't have office hours and seemed unapproachable to me. The midterms were hard but the final was easy and she gives extra points for improvement which I appreciated.
She's funny and knows her stuff but she's a brutal grader and pretty unapproachable. I got a bad score on the first exam because she gave me no partial credit, so I was basically screwed on my final grade. She's pretty mean, and confusing with graphs.
Professor Parsons was an excellent teacher. Her teaching style is refreshing and she definitely makes you think. If you follow along in class and ask questions, everything is very clear. You know what to expect and it's that simple. Definitely recommended!
Very helpful, very clear, love her teaching style. She doesn't just want to get through the material, she wants you to learn it and she will help you. She'll tell you exactly what's on the midterms. Very straightforward. You do have to go to class though. It's possible to catch up after a missed class, but very difficult.
TAKE HER CLASS. She is super helpful and really clear with everything she says, very straightforward, and you know exactly what you are going to be tested on. Has a great sense of humor and genuinely cares that everyone understands the material. Make sure you go to class (I didn't open my book once, and got A's on both midterms).
