her class is easy. i probably missed a class or two and still managed to get a B. she writes all of her notes on the overhead - so its not that hard to copy them all down. her exams are easy ONLY if you actually do the study guides and pay attention some what....i suggest taking her - you wont regret it - at least i dont.......

She is so nice! She seems to really care if we understand the material. The tests aren't bad, straight from the notes, but she may try to trick you a little! Nothing too hard though!!! Great teacher overall.

She was a great teacher! She scared me in the beginning with her attendance policy (can only miss 3 classes) but that was helpful. She gives you all the notes you need and a study guide before each test. I never used her textbook. The tests ask pretty simple questions. just study the notes and you will get a good grade.

NEVER used textbook. Only studied notes for the tests. SI review sessions for the tests helps a lot! ITS very important to do well on her final exam! Her final mostly comes out of the previous tests!

She uses CPS so go to class. Her lectures are very clear and easy to understand but pay attention to little details on her tests or you'll make silly mistakes. Overall, a good class.

This is an excellent class and professor for those that need to get the science req out of the way but hate science. Sometimes it was a little too easy, but an easy A none the less.

Go to class b/c it's a clicker class. Plus if you go to class, you don't need to read the book. She tell's you everything you need to know and writes everything down so you can copy it instead of trying to listen. Yea if you've taken basic chem in high school you'll be good cause it's just like that. And she does demos sometimes so shes good

Loved Prof. Polo! With all the CPS points, LONCAPA points, and two dropped recitation grades and quizzes it's difficult to not get a good grade. Just go to class and actually listen. She's very understanding and helpful. I would really recommend you take her.

this is a hard class to not get a good grade in. She tells you everything you need to know in class and gives you tons of CPS poitns, she ends up dropping a few days if there are too many. Just go over your notes for the tests. She does some pretty cool experiments too.

Prof. Polo is extremely clear with her notes and a great professor in general. SI sessions are helpful for her class as is doing the recommended problems at the end of each section. Just a note- she doesn't curve her test grades but she drops lots of CPS points, loncapa questions, and replaces your lowest exam grade with your final exam grade!

She is an extremely good teacher! She is very specific about everything and her notes are very good! SI secessions are very helpful and recitation helps with understanding the material as well. The tests are fairly simple and easy to get a good grade as long as you study. CPS defiantly helps a lot too. I really recommend this teacher!

She is awesome! Very clear on what is required of you. Tests are not very long or hard.. but make sure you practice doing the problems so that you can do the work fairly quickly on the test. GO TO CLASS she does CPS for attendance.. so it can't hurt you if you go. Polo is great, super nice and very helpful in Chem. I think it is easy to get an "A"

I had Polo this past semester and I got an A in her class;HOWEVER, the exams are tricky at times and you do need to look at the book to study.In lecture she's very clear about concepts and you can definitely understand what she's trying to teach.The ACS at the end of the year wasn't too bad, JUST STUDY that's all!!!and review your stoichiometry!!

GREAT PROFESSOR! She explains everything very clearly and her exams are conceptual. She'll never ask you anything she didn't cover in class. The final is a little difficult but just by the ACS study guide for $15. TAKE HER.

My advice for all students taking Chem 101 is get the ACS booklet from the get go! There are the same type of questions on the final in that book. She told our class about it like 2 weeks before the final and I wish she would have told us sooner. This class is pretty difficult. Don't slack off at the beginning you will be sorry later. GET ACS BOOK!

Love her, but hate that she uses ALEKS for HW. It is the worst program for online HW I have ever used. It takes days and many headaches to complete each assignment. Must be right on the decimal or it doesn't count and if it thinks you aren't leaning it will up the number of problems you must do. Also makes you take assessment every 5 days. Waste!

Professor Polo is an awesome teacher! To take notes, you just copy hers that she provides on the pull-down screen. You should pay attention, but you really don't need to for an A because she's that good. ALWAYS bring your clicker. She makes us do aleks though, and I don't like it, but neither does she; so, it's all good.

Polo is an excellent presenter of information. She provides clear explanations and practice problems for all material you'll be tested on. She also breaks material down and leads with perfect notes IN CLASS. Attending class is important for success. No practice tests or online lecture notes.

Amazing Professor! Her notes are crystal clear. Her exams are based mostly on homework material and CPS questions covered in class, so if you can handle those then you should be fine. If you can, sign up for the smaller section on exams. I was in a class of 400 and consistently told us the section of 40 scored higher on tests.

Compared to Chem 101, Polo is much friendlier and more helpful than last semester. Polo hand feeds you the information and goes very slow so everyone can understand. Polo is tricky because she loves to add ACs questions in her exam. If you study the ACs you will be very well prepared. The only bad thing is ALEKS which can take up to 10 hours.

One of the best chem teachers you could ask for. She makes sure of it that you understand the material and have the resources to study from for each and every test or quiz. Just go to class, copy down her notes, and you'll do just fine. Class is kinda boring but if you just listen and write down everything, class will be a breeze. TAKE HER

A good professor to have. She is very helpful, goes over the material well, and is nice. She also has a (odd) sense of humor when teaching. She's not easy, but her tests and quizzes are not insanely hard. She also clarifies question in class, and offers help during recitation.

After having Henshaw for 101 last semester, I was interested to see how Polo compared. Surprisingly, I liked her so much better! She moves at a perfect pace and does numerous examples of every concept. Her tests and quizzes are multiple choice and not tricky at all. Make sure you go to class for clicker points! I highly recommend taking her class.

Possibly one of the greatest chemistry teachers in the whole school. She is willing to help any student who seeks it. And all you need to pass is to go to class, take notes.

Polo's chem 100 class was easy but I'm struggling in 101. I study so much and do poorly on her tests and quizzes. She's good at teaching but her tests and quizzes are very difficult. Luckily she has a few safety nets, otherwise I'd have a D or an F. You really need to devote a LOT of study time to this class. And take advantage of the book.

Great teacher! Dreaded taking chem 102 since I basically learned nothing from chem 101. Study the quizzes to prepare for the exams and also the clicker questions and you'll be fine.

Fantastic. I never had to go to office hours because the lecture was so clear. You will have to study, but not too much. She really prepares you for the ACS (standardized final exam). Do the online homework as soon as the topic is introduced Go to SI (suplemental instruction) sessions if you are falling behind.

Theres a lot of work, as expected with any chemistry class, but its there to guide you. Weekly HW assignments and clicker questions. Group work and quizzes in recitation. She is there after class to answer any questions. Her tests are challenging but if you study you should pass. Integrates acs material into the lecture. Very clear material.

Polo is great naturally I am pretty good with Chem but I feel as though her preparation helps you get over the top. She walks through examples with the class instead of just showing a powerpoint, one downside is if you do miss class you will miss the notes for that day, but overall great teacher

Polo is an amazing professor and I would definitely recommend her. She's not the type of professor that will just go through power point slides, she actually writes her notes on a screen and will take you step by step through each problem that are similar to the ones you will see on a test or quiz. She's pretty funny too. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Her lectures are non-PowerPoint, making them my kind of lecture. She prepares you for the ACS better than some CHEM 101 professors do. Be sure to make use of those SI Sessions and Marathons!

I love Dr. Polo. She's one of the reason I love VCU. Definitely take her if you're in CHEM 101 or 102. She's not too hard but not too easy. Just make sure that you understand the materials. SI is really helpful.

Professor Polo is the only Chem teacher that I've actually learned from. I took chem101 last year with a different professor and had to drop due to low grades, but now I have a B in her class. She is very clear when explaining problems and goes through things step by step. I definitely recommended her if you want to pass chem101.

Dr. Polo is the best chemistry professor. I was awful at chem in high school, but Polo is clear, gives good notes, and does a lot of clicker problems during class for you to get practice. Tests are multiple choice, so that was awesome. Coming to class is a must, but that's true for any chemistry class. Definitely take her!!!

I was terrified of 102 because I had a bad teacher in 101, but with Polo, not only did I catch up, I changed majors to chemistry. She explains things really well and goes through tons of examples. Even if chemistry is not your thing, and you can't understand why any of it works the way it does, you'll still understand how to solve the problems.

Polo is a GREAT chem professor and will give you the best foundation. However, the tests are short so it's hard to get an A (if you miss more than 2, it's a B already). At the end of the semester, she drops a lot of the lowest scores. If you're naturally good at chem or put in A LOT of work, you'll get the A. If not, you'll get a B!

Her quizzes/tests are curveballs if I've ever seen one. You will think you understand the material until you see the test/quiz. They were so hard. She curves but not enough. Half of my class failed/withdrew. I basically had to sell my soul for a C. I don't know why everyone has nothing but good things to say. NOT AS EASY AS THESE OTHER REVIEWS SAY!

I took polo for 101 and 102 and I got an A in 101 and i have an A in 102 atm. She's very good with explaining material and her notes amazing and straightforward! Uses Mastering Chemistry / ALEKS depending on if the class is Honors or not. Her lecture notes are really clear. Clicker questions on participation and accuracy. The final replaces lowest test score. She drops the lowest quiz/homework/assignment. If you show up to lecture and take good notes, it should be an easy A. Didn't use the textbook.

Excellent at explaining the material. Don't be fooled by others on this website, though, as her tests are difficult and long (30 questions, usually). However, if you study and do the work, you should get an A or B in the class.

Chem 102 is a hard class. There is no way that you can just show up and expect to do well. You need to put in an effort of your own because there is a lot of material and while Polo is great at explaining and giving you practice problems in class, you need to do work of your own. Review material twice a week, work through the MasteringChem.

Professor Polo is amazing! Her lectures are clear and she teaches you everything you need to pass the end of the semester exam. She's willing to help you with any concepts you don't understand. She also drops the lowest clickers and quizzes. Honestly, she's a total mom.

Professor Polo is great! I learned so much from her, and I would say she is the best chem 101 professor to take, but not if you want an easy A. She will make you work for it, but its not impossible. Her class is very test heavy. I got A's on mostly everything, but B's on 2 test and that made my grade go down to a B. Overall she's good, but not easy

She put forward a lot of effort to ensure students understood the material. There were plenty of practice opportunities when it came to strengthening knowledge such as homework assignments, recitation activities, and clicker questions. Go to class, do the homework assignments, read the textbook and you will do just fine on the tests (**important).

Polo is very nice and is always prepared for class. She does not post notes online, so you have to come to class. Keep on top of homework due dates, she will not let you know when one is posted or due. Do the homework before tests. It will help a lot. She curves tests by a question or two. The ACS final is half 101 material, so dont forget it!

Super clear and makes sure students understand all the key points with lots of examples. However, you have to got to class because she works on paper and doesn't upload power points. The lectures never seem too long though and I never dread going to class.

Polo is awesome, I took her for 101 and 102 and she is super great I wish I could have her for all of my chemistry classes. Definitely take her if you have to take chem 101/102 she's funny and always willing to help you out!!

Not only must you go to class in order to receive the notes (She does not post them online) you should go because that is your chance to work through the problems with her, hear explanations, and understand the material. Also, she can be pretty funny, you will enjoy her as a professor.

She's an amazing professor. Students need to attend class because she does not post notes online. She does give about 5-6 quizzes (lowest grade gets dropped). Prepares students extremely well for the ACS. Will also have weekly homework assignments but is given a week to complete them, typically due every Sunday.

You definitely have to go to class because she doesn't post notes online. However, her lectures are incredible since she does tons of practice questions on each topic so by the time you get the exam, you've seen the types of questions already! You have online homework due once a week, but it helps your grade overall. PREPS YOU SO WELL FOR THE ACS!

She is the best chemistry teacher I've had. She always has practice questions and examples. She has multiple quizzes throughout the semester and drops a few of the lowest quiz grades at the end. Her tests are straightforward but you will need to study. She doesn't post lecture notes on blackboard, but the lectures are interesting.

Very efficient teacher who cycles in practice problems at just the right amount and has amazing lectures that don't go on pointlessly forever and are to the point. She does clickers (1% of grade) + 7% is online HW (the ALEKS program is VERY tedious) and 7% is in-class activities plus quizzes. Her tests can be challenging but are definitely doable.

Professor Polo is the best science professor I have had at VCU! She is extremely clear and never does anything that will really surprise you. She gives a lot of online homework and frequent quizzes in recitation but it is all very helpful in preparing for her tests. She is very respected and happily answers questions in class.

Professor Polo has changed how I view chemistry, coming from a very poor background in chem in high school, and shes an extremely clear & organized teacher. Going to class is best way to do well, & shes great about dropping a few low grades. Her tests are harder than ACS, but I did super well on ACS which brought my grade from a high C to an A!

Polo's teaches CHEM 101 in a great way that makes it easy to comprehend to a lot of people. If you want something a little more rigorous and example-driven, take chem with Amanda Harris.

Wildly good professor for a basic class, liked chemistry and liked teaching. There's no way to get an A if you don't go to class and do the clickers. Do the suggested problems, sometimes they're on the test word for word. The tests aren't that hard if you go to class and do the problems.

She's a great professor all around. She makes learning Chem easier. Her lectures and examples are very helpful for her tests. But she does do clicker questions so if you don't show up to class then it can affect your grade.

I though Prof. Polo was great was a great lecturer and her in class problems mimic her tests fairly. She gives all the resources needed to get an easy A in the class. However, she does use ALEKS which can be time consuming but helps if you do it before a quiz or test.

I absolutely love Polo!!! Her lectures break everything down and she's great at answering questions. She's always available outside of class to help you (worth going to office hours). The tests are more difficult than her lectures and Aleks can be super time consuming. Overall, she's amazing and I would take her class again in a heartbeat!

Easy to take notes cuz she writes it out on the screen. Textbook is optional but recommended to do the practice problems (not graded). Do your Sapling hw. Group work from time to time during lecture. Clickers are used in class so participation does matter. Its based on accuracy too which blew me. Not a bad teacher overall.

Professor Polo is easily one of the best chemistry professors. You have to actively participate in class since she lectures by physically writing down the notes and examples. If there was one way to describe Dr. Polo it's definitely fair. You have to work hard to get a good grade. Her tests are hard, but they're the same content that she gives as practice during class and she's always available during office hours to help. Other chem teachers give easy problems and their tests are hard, but she actually prepares you!

Good professor. I struggle with chem, but she her lectures helped me understand the topics. Make sure you go to class since she doesn't do power points. She also uses another app that isn't top hat(i forget the name of it), so beware having to pay that fee as well

She explains material very clearly and in-depth. Unlike other professors I've had, almost all of the material on exams comes straight from lectures and will be understandable if you pay attention in class. She is detailed when I ask questions about the material and, unlike some, has never made me feel incompetent for asking. She can be funny too.

Dr. Polo is the best chemistry professor and one of my favorite professors ever. She gives amazing lectures at a pace everyone can follow, she's very good at explaining concepts and information and honestly, if you just make sure to attend class, take notes, and go over them you're guaranteed a good grade.

Polo is one of the greatest professors I have had. She doesn't use powerpoints, but she writes everything down. She tries hard to really make sure her students grasp the concept and she cares about her students. Because of her lectures, I found her class to be very easy. If you just pay attention, her exams are easy A's. She teaches it very well.

Pay attention in class and take notes and you'll definitely pass. She takes grades on your attendance so don't skip. Her notes were really easy to follow so the class was pretty easy. Sometimes she could be a bit snappy when you asked her questions but for the most part she was nice. The TAs were helpful too.

Polo is probably the best professor you can take for chem102. She doesn't read off slides, she walks you through the material and really breaks it down for you. Homework is hard but it prepares you for the quizzes and exams. I wish I took her for chem 101. Study, go to the CLC and SI sessions, pay attention in class and you will get an A or B.

Polo's voice is kind of monotone but that doesn't matter. Her lectures r very helpful. She goes thru material by writing what u need to know on a paper presented in class and u should copy her exact notes. They r very helpful. Tests/quizzes r all multiple choice which is huge plus. If u put in work u should be fine! And she def has curved stuff too

I got a D because I SUCK at chem, but Dr. Polo is a great professor who has amazing lectures. Easily explains the material you need to know in a way thats super easy to follow along. If it weren't for corona and having to kinda self teach & do the lectures on my own, I woulda been able to get my grade up. Overall 11/10 would recommend.

chem is hard no matter what but polo is definitely tries to help. i recommend going to drop in tutor after class bc she moves kind of quick. i had friends in class which made studying easier. not a fan of SI bc they want you to figure it out yourself so it doesn't help if you're confused. 1 on 1 tutoring is better if you're like me. go to class!

I loved polo, couldve gotten an A but got lazy and ended class with high B. Amazing professor really liked her, just study her notes for tests, understand the concepts and youll get an A. Going to SI sessions really helped me.

Crystal clear instruction and makes everything super easy to understand. Test and quiz questions are super similar to Mastering problems, and sometimes even taken directly from Mastering. Professor Polo is also just a super nice person, in general. The homework is also very light compared to some other chemistry professors.

I LOOOVE Polo, if you can take her for 101 and 102 everything you need to know for tests/quizzes are in your notes just study them. She handwrites the notes which I found helpful. Solid choice.

Honestly, an amazing professor. Made the transition of online classes as smooth as possibles. The class was loaded with exams every other week, quizzes every once in awhile, homework due every week, but overall very well laid out. My best advise is to manage your time, and watch the lecture videos as soon as you can. Highly recommend taking her.

Professor Polo is understanding of your circumstances and is willing to work with you on anything you may find confusing. She drops your lowest test grade and provides practice problems. Mrs. Polo is fantastic - she is great at explaining Chemistry in a way that is understandable for non-science people. DEFINITELY go to her office hours - she works through problems and helps you figure out what to focus on for tests. Chemistry was my worst and most hated topic in high school, but after 101 and 102 with Mrs. Polo it's my favorite.

Overall great professor, people complain because test dont allow back tracking but that isnt her choice. As long as you study and keep on top of the work you should be good. The lectures are very clear.

I really enjoyed her class. Lectures are not mandatory but missing them will put you in a tough spot unless you can get good notes from someone. Homework was through our online textbook, could be difficult at times, but she quickly answers emails about hw. If you are doing the hw, going to recitation, and reviewing notes, then tests are not hard.

OH MAN prof Polo is legit the best prof you can get. I hated chem throughout hs and was dreading taking it in college. I had Prof Polo for both CHEM 101 and CHEM 102, and did online and in-person recitation but you'll be fine with either. She does online homework due every Sunday that's very doable, if you miss class she posts the lectures but don't depend on those.

I had Professor Polo for two semesters of gen chem and I loved her class - the course is set up very straight forward with four exams and a final making up most of your final grade (with one exam bring dropped). Clicker questions every lecture so skipping is not a great idea, but if you do have to miss she uploads recorded lectures online.

I love Mrs. Polo. She is a great teacher, and. she takes the time to explain everything in great detail. She is also always quick to respond.There are a lot of assignments for the grade book if you like that (none are too difficult though). She drops assignments at the end, and overall is a great Chem Prof that teaches to all of her assignments.

The best professor I've ever had at my time at VCU!! So well prepared and Professor Polo really knows how to teach. I always did AWFUL in high school chemistry but I never thought this would be a subject I actually enjoy. Only but the best for professor Polo love that woman.

I had Professor Polo for CHEM 101 and 102 (Honors section both times), and I'm glad I did. 102 was hard because we went back and forth between in person and virtual, but Polo is one of the best professors at VCU. I highly encourage that you take her if she's available. Either Polo or Moussa would be the best choices. She's very reasonable in tests!

I went from nearly failing chemistry in high school to declaring a chem minor because of professor Polo's classes. I cannot recommend her enough, especially if you previously struggled with the course: her lectures are thorough, and she is clearly passionate about both the subject and helping her students. She's a great teacher! She explains things very well and go over a lot of examples in class so you understand the subject. Have to make sure to go to the lecture tho, it's easier to understand the subject if you go there rather than look on the textbook. Tests very heavy, 60% if test grades and 20% is final exam, so in total 80% is tests.

OMG, I loved her! She is such a mom, in a good way. I am taking her next semester for Chem 102. She is very passionate and knowledgeable about the course. She answers questions thoroughly, and her exams are very straightforward if you come to class and do the homework. I do wish the online program used for homework was less tedious. HOMEWORK HEAVY!

Polo was great, I'm currently taking her 102 class at 9am. She has homework due every Sunday and teaches the things you'll need to know before hand. The thing I didn't like was the group work she made us do. I don't like working w people so I usually just skipped it. She also drops your lowest assignments like test, quizzes, and clickers.

Dr. Polo is the best Chem lecturer! Though she uses a textbook, her lectures and notes are so detailed you can get by without reading. She cares about the class and makes everything as clear as possible. Grading-wise, there were 4 unit tests and a final, and the quizzes were lumped together with activities.

She makes you work little hard for the A in class. Will have to know material thoroughly. Try to do readings to make sure you understand the concepts. One HW a week for like 2-3 hours. 4 Tests, 4 quizzes. One drop for test. Final will be hard, so try to keep 101 fresh and understand 102 thoroughly. If you get two wrong on test, you get B on test.

Dr. Polo is the best general chemistry professor at VCU. Her passion for the subject is visible in her lectures and her lectures are very easy to follow and understand. Her tests are easy if you pay attention in class and there are multiple opportunities to do well and keep a high grade in this class.

Every week consists of a pre-lab lecture video, the lab, and then a lab report. The video takes about 15min if you take notes and watch at 2x speed. The labs were tedious but easy, and the lab reports were easy. I got about 99% on all my lab reports, and they took me 1-1.5 hours to do. Only caveat: you have to print everything yourself.

Professor Polo was by far my favorite professor this year. Her class is incredibly well organized and she makes things easy to learn. She does assign homework every week that will take about 2 hours to complete but if you do a little each day it is really easy. I will be taking her again next semester and I'm very excited.

I didn't see Dr. Polo much, but she was very nice from the times I did speak to her and her lab procedures are easy to understand, but take a lot of time to complete, so be prepared to stay the full 2 hours sometimes. Overall great class and professor.

102 lab is more intense than 101, but manageable if you understand the concepts and how to do the math. Check your work on your lab reports!! Polo is great at communicating expectations and is easy to reach for help.

Dr. Polo is truly awesome and as long as you show up to class and pay attention you will be fine. She doesn't do percentages, only points which was confusing at first but it's honestly so much better. She wants all her students to do well and is always accessible. She is kind of a tough professor but if you're hard working it's manageable.

I really liked Dr. Polo and I wished I got to know her more. She wants to make sure that you are prepared for CHEM 101 so she gives you many chances to do well. Make sure you look over the syllabus to see the grading policy because it's not based off of percentages and it was a bit confusing at first. I definitely recommend her and she's sweet.

I have been taking classes here at VCU for 3 years and have NEVER had a professor like Mrs. Polo in my academic career. Who hates Chemistry!? I did until I took her class. I am 99% sure if you have Mrs. Polo as a professor, you WILL pass!!

She was a great professor. Her material was straightfoward the only issue I had was her class was a bit disorganized and I was unable to see my grade. She gives mastery quizzes that you can retake and other quizzes that you can't but she still let the class retake them anyways. Weekly homework and in class participation. Super easy!

Polo has her life and classes together &you can tell. Everything is so clear from the start, you know exactly what to study and can retake quizzes 2 times if you fail. She is very no nonsense so youll learn a lot very quickly. If youre confused, go to her office hours she is so nice and helpful. I already signed up for Chem 101 next semester w/her.

If I was to take this class again, I would show up the first two weeks and make some friends to give me clicker answers every class, and then skip every class and only watch the online lectures before every quiz and test. Very good teacher, but all her video lectures are just repeats of what she does...so utilize that.

The lectures can be slow and the way she explains things can be confusing at times, but she paces the lecture well enough for beginners to understand. There is a quiz almost every week and a homework due every Sunday. Quizzes can be retaken, no tests except for the final. Attendance is for a grade.

Prof Polo is a great instructor. It is obvious she is passionate about her subject and knows how to teach it well. She gives multiple retakes options and gives great feedback while asked in class. My one word of advice would be to double check your bubble answers before turning in because it is easy to bubble in wrong answers during quizzes.
