She is an amazing instructor who made my macroeconomics experience enjoyable. She took the time to explain difficult material by breaking it down into something the entire class could understand, like football. Her projects were a little difficult but again she tried to meet us half way.

She's a fun prof. but her tests aren't.
Not a very good teacher. She is entertaining but when it comes test time, no one knew any of the material. She spends tons of time on the easiest parts of the class and doesn't go over the more difficult material. She in unorganized and if you try to contact her out of class, she blows you off.
she dosen't give papers back in time or at all,she gives you work that you dont get credit for. she puts you in groups and if 75% of the group members drop she dosent care about the extra work load it imposes on you. basicaly she's a ****.
This class was truly a challenge. She clarifies the information using footbal and food as examples. Her tests are horrible. The questions are not related to the examples she use in class therefore you have no clue what it is talking about. I would not advise anyone to take her class.
This class is hard..no doubt about it. I had to read the chapters and then right before the test read them again and I STILL did not get an "A". The teacher herself is very funny and for the most part pretty nice. There are times though when she CAN have that "I dont care" attitude.
she's doing a decervice to the student,the first thing she told us that most of her student always get C's. I took AP economics in high school and got an A. My teacher was better then. She confused things for me and didn't seem to have a grasp on how to teach. Don't take her she is mean and very hard to learn from. Doesn't help you understand what you were doing wrong. There is no way to get better.
First of all, I hate football, so the first few minutes of the class, I just read the chapter while she talk alittle about football. Believe me, once you get to the university level, you will consider her a really good teacher,It's not an eassy, class, but her methology is pretty good!
The tests are very hard... she has very little extra credit...actually no extra credit at all. The projects and homework you do its worthless compared to 1 test. This class is very hard overall. Not recommended
She is one of those teachers that you have to pay attention in class. If you miss class just give up!! All you have to do is be on her good side, do well on the homework, and get at least C's on your test if you want to pass with a C. Hey, I passed and did horrible on those tests,and yes they r hard

I took both micro and macro in the same semester one after another and got A's in both. That took alot of work thorsen is a good teacher if you pay attention because she never repeats anything. try to befriend her and your grade will be great. What a major ****! I loved economics before I took her class! Between the football and her being 5 to 10 minute late every class, this class was a total waste of my tuition money! This was the worst class I have ever taken and it has caused me such a headach. Aparently its an online class with the amount of computer work she gives. For me it was imposible to get an A. She picks one topic and talks about it the whole semester then tests you on EVERYTHING she did NOT cover. Aplia is most important. She never grades things on time. Lectures are worthless. If you like teaching yourself you'll be fine. Don't bother asking questions b/c she won't answer them. She'll flat out say "I'm not answering/going over that"
Tests are difficult because they are totally different to what she covers in class. I obvious she dos not create the tests. A Helpful way to study for the test is gradesummit.com; it looks like she gets all the questions from that website. Only good thing in the class, she droop the lowest grade and gives extra credit when her team wins.
People at Pbcc are lazy and will fail at other university's and life to say the least. I got a C by studying the night before and somewhat paying attention in class. THIS an a actual college course unlike most of pbccs joke classes. If you study the book and register grade summit and do the Myers Briggs Extra Credit, a A or B really isnt that hard
Ms.Thorsen is a great professor!She is hard,however you will learn a lot,intresting lecture and if you buy the grade summit as she recommends,do the extra credit & the pracitise quiz she has its not to hard to get an A.You need to study and put time into both of the lecture & homework and you will learn a lot and you will recieve the grade you earn

Not a very good teacher, to worried about telling everyone about her life. Hard to understand, and makes you want to fall asleep. If you read and teach yourself the material then you will be ok, but why pay for class then?
People who complain just cant handle college level work. the class in general is tough, but she makes everything were learning relative to life. Shes funny and does her best to illustrate what were learning. I highly recomend taking her. its a tough class but if you pay attention and do the work, shell make sure you get the grade you deserve.

Hard class, but if you pay attention in class and read the book a couple times. You'll do fine. This class is not for everyone though.. if you dont have any interest in learning the material then dont waste your money. Her test arent that hard, she lectures the whole class period. You only get 20minutes of info from each class. Sometimes you wonder whats going on in the class and other times it can be interesting. Tests were fairly easy. Just take notes and read the book and you will be fine.
I got an A in this class so please take my advise and do not take this teacher. She does not teach anything in class. The tests are very hard. She is a very moody teacher with issues. She is a bad teacher. If you have made the mistake make sure to do ALL the extra credit she assigns it does count as a lot.
Ms. Thorsen is a decent professor. She is not all stuck up and nerdy like some other econ professors. Only about 30 minutes of actual class. Very entertaining you won't fall asleep. Test are pretty hard. Just make sure to learn whatever she repeats, it will be on the test.

She is a nice teacher overall, but you really have to STUDY in her class. We did a stock market project and I felt as though I didn't get any help. Don't count on her explaining things to you. She will refer you the SI lab, or book. She is very smart, and knows what she is talking about, but you have to learn it on your own.
Prof Thorsen is smart and her class is challenging. She doesn't explain things clearly and expects you to read the book and completely understand what it says. Lots of material on tests, some extra credit, lots of mandatory homework.
Enthusiastic and engaging style, but a little haphazard. Uses material from another book, which can be confusing at times. Gave a group assignment to track stocks which is terrible - group projects never equate to a group effort. Fair with grading, and flexible with due dates and test dates.
Probably one of the best teachers I have ever had. Didn't like economics before I had her, and now I am really interested in taking more classes on it. She is fun, explains things fairly well. The book was useless for me, just remember what she repeats over and over in class and you will be fine on her somewhat hard tests.

Professor Thorsen is overall a good teacher. She explains everything so you understand it. The only part of this class I disliked was the group assignment. It was a good concept, but most of the group didnt contribute as much as they should have.
I appreciate that Prof Thorsen expects her students to actually WORK and STUDY - I know, quite a concept for PBCC. She is a brilliant woman with a wonderful personality - very warm and funny. For those of you who couldn't hack it, I recommend you major in basket-weaving and leave economics to the less primitive among us.
SHe was very helpful and funny. She gave tons of extra credit and made the class interesting. I STONGLY recommend that you consider taking her class for both MICRO and MACRO. Even though her looks has nothing to do with her teaching skills, but she is very pretty.

She knows how to teach and will prepare you for tests, they are hard.If you want an A in her class,you will have to study.Uses online homework(aplia.com).The class itslef starts off really easy, gets harder by the second,third month and by the end it gets EXREMELY easy again.I definitely recommend her!!
I am taking Macroeconomics this semester. She is a very nice teacher who really knows the stuff. She talks very fast and very funny! You have to pay attention in the whole time though. She gives extra credits and online homework. Test is not hard if you study. I love this class!

I took professor Thorsen for both Macro And Micro. All you who say she is a bad teacher are plain lazy. I got an A in both classes without very much studying. Do ALL of her extra credit (It really helps in her class). Its not the easiest class but if your majoring in something REQUIRING Economics I highly suggest Thorsen (You will learn alot)

I had her for macro econ for my first semester, i failed (D+). BUT, im not like everyone else who goes aheads and puts sad faces just because they didn't pass the course. She really is a nice lady and is a good teacher, shes one of those teachers you wouldn't mind retaking again even if you failed the course.(and try to avoid last seats my mistake)
Proffesot Thorsen Is a great teacher with a sense of humor. Very down to earth but she is not a cake walk. Do your work,read your book and do as she asks and you will be fine.

She is really a good teacher. She give alot of work, but if you do it, it makes tests easy. She is pretty entertaining and very nice, and it isn't too diffifult to do well in her class.
She was a very good teacher but you really have to do the work. My suggestion is to make sure you do the online homework! It doesn't take much time, counts for 20 percent of your grade, and REALLY helps for the tests.
The ease of this class was comparable to a Regular level High school economics class, just don't bug out on homework. You need it. She has a pizza party too and her activites make you less shy to everyone else in the class.

She goes the whole class talking about economics in the world, which is great and all, but when it comes to the test, it is pretty much useless because all her tests come from the book, which she does not talk about at all, and if you want to pass you have to read the book troughly! U will b doing a RESEARCH PAPER in APA format & presenting. She is consistently rude and will jump down your throat when a question is asked- extremely unapproachable.
I passed her class with a B, its just because i didn't try but personally I don't like her teaching style. She is very disorganized, doesn't thoroughly explain the concepts clearly, doesnt teach from the textbook and she goes off on irrelevant tangents A LOT. The only pros are the clicker quizzes and the xtra credit sheets.

Great techer! I took her for both micro and macro. She applies the concepts to the real world.. But you have to do the work. And she wll give the extra help to make sure you pass. I love her!!!!!

She's tough, but if you need MacEc for your major / career, take her. You will learn a lot. She lectures & uses book. Study Lecture & book notes & also keywords. Paper is 8wk project, reading WSJ. Make sure your group gets notes to leader each week as soon as the week's up. Start writing early. APA Format. Check 3rd floor library for examples.
this class is not that hard [micro eco]. In class i suggest you PAY ATTENTION and take good notes. READ THE CHAPTERS. If you do, you will get an A. no papers. just hw and tests. there are many extra credit opportunities.

Unorganized, spends too much time on early chapters of the textbook and then have no time at the end of the semester, putting everyone behind in class. There are pros and cons in taking Professor Thorsen's class. Pros is that the class is not very hard, if you read the book and come to class, it should be very easy for you. Cons is that she talks the whole class period, not very much into discussions but she does try to use real life examples, it gets boring sometimes. Easy class if you study.
Good pofessor. She uses up the entire time, which can seem like a long time, but tries her best to keep everyone engaged and interested. My 4hr class seems to pass in 2hrs. You HAVE to read the book and take NOTES to understand some of the theories and to do the homework. The group project isnt very hard and I like her use of technology for hmwrk.

Summer online - STOP!Do not proceed! This is not a class that should be shoved into 6 weeks. Too much "busy" work that makes it hard to concentrate on learning the basics and she wants you to fit in time to do "group" project" as well. You pretty much have 1 week to learn 4 chapters, do online h/w, discussion boards, do misc. worksheets..........
Huge class project that she nitpicked about things like the appearance of the binder. Ranted on about the movies she watches and had boring, unorganized lectures. Managed to get a B but not without working hard. Doesn't read/respond to e-mails and cancelled class several times so the lectures were crammed with a lot of information

What can I say? She left a real impression on me. She has an interesting demeanor, beautiful blonde hair. Her attitude is very pleasant, and she is very sensitive, until it comes to grading. She does not curve heavily, only enough to move up at the most, .05 points. So with that being the case, you need to work hard to get C. Learn text, ace exams
Fun class... She has a lot of side stories that will link to the economical concept. The tests are confusing. You feel like you did well but that's not what the grades appears to be later on. Even after understanding the material throughly the questions throws you off. Overall an Okay class. :-)
This is a tough class if you are lazy. She teaches and lets you know what will be on the exams. The online homework was key in doing well. She uses really good examples to relate topics she covers in class. Really good professor. Read the chapters and participate in class and you will get an A! Don't expect to come to class and sleep. Not a good teacher. Online class close to impossible. When I asked a uestion I was told to go to the tutor, she wouldnt even answer my question.
DO NOT TAKE HER ONLINE MICRO OR MACRO CLASSES! I took plenty of other online classes and got A's but hers is just filled with busy work and really tight scheduling. She takes days to email you back and isn't clear on how she wants your papers written. My 3.8 GPA was ruined because of her economics classes.
Please do not take this class online. The teacher is just an instructor, she is not there to teach. She just tell you what to do and what you did wrong with no explanation. She might be better in class.
For your best interest, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! Find another macro class to take. Its such tidious work that seems useless. Guidelines and duedates are unclear and tests are extremely difficult. Plenty of my friends took econ classes w/o difficulty but this woman is a nightmare as a prefessor!

I took her Macroeconomics class in the classroom and she was pretty good. She tells lots of stories that relate to the topics, which I found helpful. All her tests included multiple questions from the online homework verbatim. She made a boring topic fairly interesting for me

This is an extremely hard class and it has nothing to do with how the professor teaches. It's just hard period. But I would NOT have passed if it wasn't for her. Do your homework, pay attention and you will be rewarded if you show your work. she was my summer blessing.

I struggled understanding this class at the beginning and was almost 100% positive that I would fail this course and it ended up really interesting and I enjoyed this class a lot. The project is NOT as bad as everyone says, just stay on top of it and do a little bit each week. Definitely recommend this teacher and course!!

Very nice teacher, she treats others with respect and kindness. Test are done in the school lab but all other work is done online. Do all of your work and study, you will do very well. Go to lab when needed. Not a hard class but it does take effort. Take advantage of the ability to redo your assignments if you get a low grade the first time.
The test are easy as long as you do the homework and practices before them. The project is easy as long as everyone in your group does the work. One of the nicest professors I've ever had, be sure to get on her good side :)

Took for an online class, assigned a lot of work (3 assignments + blog post + 2 replies per chapter, 4 chapters in a unit, 4 units), but the work wasn't difficult. Very generous with dropping bad grades (drop 3 low assignments and lowest test). Final optional
Lecturing in class but assigning all homework online does not work as the lectures clash with the actual assignments online. VERY CONFUSING. A lot of the material on the test are on things not discussed in class. Read on your own and learn from online modules. Does not answer emails or know how to use Blackboard which is required for homework.

This professor is disrespectful and rude to students when they participate in the class discussion if they wrong. She's a difficult person to get along with, and constanly stops the lecture to call out students in front of the whole class to embarrass them. I wouldn't recommend. Only take her if its your last option.
I took her for an economics class. Her grading scale helps but she refuses to tell you your final grade. She's not polite, rude if you answer wrong, and is disrespectful if you email or go see her. I do not reccomens this to anyone. It's not that hard of a class but she makes it difficult.
Don't use your phone in class. She's tough, yet smart. Kinda rude at times, like snippy remarks. Doesn't really make herself available. Tough tests, lengthly lectures, and a lot of homework due at the end of each week. If you understand economics, then take her. If you don't, then don't.
I'll sum it up for any possible future students: She is rude, she won't return all of your in class homework or test grades back to you, if you attempt to help a student with a concept but teach it in your own way she'll call you out on it and tell you to teach it her way ( this was during a group activity), her lectures are sometimes interesting.
I took Thorsen for Micro and Macro. If you listen to the lectures and study definition terms you should pass with an A, no problem. She is tough, but I actually learned a lot. People judge harshly because the material she covers is complicated and complex, but I loved her classes.
Don't do this to yourself. The class has very many assignments, loads of discussions, long boring lectures with many umm and uh. TEST ARE TAKEN IN THE TESTING LAB. she is rude too

She is an extremely hard and strict professor. She has a problem with cell phones, if you even have it out in plain site or she even sees it sticking out of your bag, she yells at you for it, so definitely keep the cell phone out of view. Her class was definitely the hardest class I took at PBSC and I would NEVER take it again. This is your warning
Take Thorsen. Professor Thorsen is great. Economics is a hard subject to learn in general, but Thorsen is good at her job. Thorsen has a good sense of humor. She's fair and tries to explain things as best as she can. I would take her again.
She explains the concepts but very vague. expect a LOT of homework & she makes you work for your grade. Her lecture notes dont match the test so dont depend on that lean towards the connect more. She helps at a minimum be very clear in what exactly you need help in if you want a FULL explanation or your just going to get a vague response GOOD LUCK!
Professor Thorsen is literally the rudest professor I have ever encountered. I only took her for an online class but the comments she would say back to any e-mails, or discussion boards, or my papers would be so mean. I suggest no one takes her. You will only feel bad about yourself after getting a comment from her on one of your assignments.
READ THE SYLLABUS!! She made the exams so you had no choice but to take them in one of the testing centers. She assigns at least 4 chapters a week. Which constists of: at most 2 discussions for each chapter, a chapter assignment and, a quiz. Very little feedback "good" and expect lots of uncapitalized words in e-mails.
Took her online course in the summer. Every Monday 4 chapters were due; 2 or more discussion, connect assignments, her own assignments & quiz. Exams can be only taken in testing center and she only gave us wedthurs to take them. Exams were hard, focus more on connect then her lecture to study for them. I don't recommend her to anyone. She is RUDE.
All I have to say is that she is RUDE! The responses to online emails and discussion boards are curt and extremely discouraging. She made me want to switch professors because everything I asked her seemed like such an inconvenience and she made me feel like I was some sort of nuisance.
Thorsen is an awesome professor! Economics is a hard class and not easy to learn, but Thorsen tries to make it easier for you and she's very funny and entertaining. Homework is all connect work and pretty easy. You'll pass the tests if you study.
I have a love/hate relationship with Thorsen. Her lectures are clear and engaging, and you learn economics really well if you try. But she can be horribly rude. If you pull out a phone in her class, expect yelling. She is coarse and unforgiving, and her grading criteria is unclear. She also makes assignments seem unnecessarily threatening.
I hated this class DO NOT TAKE IT. i hated her teaching style all she does is lecture and scribble bad notes. all the homework was done through an online textbook. what she talked about in class barely covered the material on the homework. she basically wanted you to teach yourself before you got to class.
Please, do not take her class! She is the most rudest professor I have had so far. The homework online is very hard to pass and her test are very different from the hw. Nothing matches. You have no idea what exactly to study. You also have a big project that was a huge pain. She is a hard grader with the project. Do not waste your time & money.
Homework is assignments on Connect. Can be a bit rude. Expects you to read the chapter before coming to class but it doesn't really matter. She gets frustrated during review days since students don't give the correct answers. Test are super easy because she basically takes them from Connect. Be sure to do Connect!! 4 test 1 final; drops 1 lowest
If you want a professor who is available and willing to work with you than look somewhere else.
I would not say she is a horrible teacher. She knows her stuff like I know the back of my hand. Despite this, she seems to only teach the basics and leaves the more complicated material for us to discover in the books. If you are good at self-learning or enjoy reading, this class is for you. Try not to ask dumb questions; those really irritate her.
Whenever you have a question she makes you feel like you you shouldn't be asking that question. Forget about make up tests or works, she is not flexible at all...
She will tell you exactly what you need to do to pass. That is do the Homework and read. The book is very well written and very helpful.
Professor Thorsen is very sarcastic and I was really into it. I was not a fan of the online homework, it was easy, but it's more about playing their word games than testing actual concepts. The tests are very easy if you do the homework.
Average everything, lextures were okay sometimes, boring at other times. Never lets class end early
Extremely excessive workload, even for an accelerated course. 4 chapters are covered each week with 3 sets of online HW per chapter, discussion postings, additional assignments, quizzes and a weekly test in the testing center. There is also a research paper. Professor is not helpful - expects you to learn everything yourself.
If you like teaching yourself you'll do well in this course. I received little meaningful response to my inquiries from the professor throughout the semester. Confusing grading system, lots of grades drop, lots of grades don't even count. Add to that the ridiculous amount of homework, assignments, tests, etc; even for an express online course.
Rude and hard to work with.
The class wasn't that hard you have 5 testes & she drop the lowest grade. Do the connect online work cause that's where most of the questions on the test come from. She's very understanding so just speak to her if you have any concerns . I got a C because I didn't study for two testes so that' on me but put some effort into it an A is reachable
Thorsen is pretty cool, she's a get what you give lady and will treat you with respect if you show her respect. Do the H.W. online and the practice multiple times before tests and it's a pretty easy A. I took her for Micro/Macro.
There are a lot of little assignments to do, but the material itself is very easy. She's a firm but fair professor, has a lot of little requirements, but she treats you like an adult. It's up to you to earn your grade, and she does not like excuses. Overall, a very solid professor.
It's an online class and she's very transparent. Getting an A isn't hard but you do have to put in the effort. Mostly, you teach yourself and take assignments. Lectures are only 15 mins each and aren't mandatory. Good professor, but not outstanding.
This Proffesor is difficult, even gets mad when you are copying notes. If you don't study HEAVY for her tests, you will fail. Expects a lot from you yet doesn't provide you the material you need in class in order to pass. She does power points but uses way too much real life application, in that you don't get info needed.
She gives out a lot of work and isn't very involved with the class. She expects you to figure things out yourself. Can be overwhelming for some. I enjoyed the course, but she's not for everybody.

She's a good teacher and funny. She tries to get you to understand and not just memorize. Gives extra credit for every exam and allows you to drop one of five exams (one being the final). We had to do a project with the stock market but you can work in a group so make good friends in glass that don't slack. Do the learnsmart before exams to get a A
Her lectures hardly match what is asked on homework assignments and tests which makes it difficult to pass. The textbook isn't required which makes it harder. She's pretty sarcastic and expects a lot. Her schedules/calendar for assignments were very unorganized. I'm an A student and I felt like this class was harder than it really needed to be!!
The work load for this class is already INSANE. I feel like I only ever have time to do the homework for this class and nothing else.
Absolutely do not take this teacher. I'm most likely going to drop this class in a few weeks because I dislike her so much as a teacher, this class has a ridiculous amount of stuff to do for it and she's not involved at all, gives discouraging, negative feedback, and makes me feel like I better not email her if I have a question. Don't take her.
What a terrible teacher! this was my first dual enrollment class that I have ever taken and she failed me. She is very sarcastic and not a very nice person, avoid this class!

This teacher/class was like working a full time job with no pay whatsoever. Didn't have time for my much harder, much more important classes, and didn't even have time to work my actual job due to having to do so much for this class. Group stock project taught me a lot about stocks but inreturn took away countless hours of my life. PLEASE STAY AWAY
Great teacher. Good explanations and examples. Pay attention to online practice tests; that is where the test questions come from. Make sure you do well on the first three tests it will save you in the end. She allows you to drop one test grade which includes the final exam.
My biggest complaint with Thorsen is her lack of communication. She'd expect us to know exactly what she wanted us to do without even telling us. She'd change homework dates without telling us and gave us vague, unclear guidelines to our project. There's a 6 week financial assessment paper that has to do with the WSJ as well.
Professor Thorsen is GREAT in her personable communication to the class. She has a PASSION for the subject and her students when they have a desire to learn and work hard. Her class is not easy and you will need to work for a good grade but there are plenty of extra credit opportunities and online activities that protect your overall grade average.
I was extremely frustrated with this class. I would consider myself an above average student and this class was way harder than it needed to be. I took it online in the summer and the amount of work we had to do was absurd. Modules on top of papers, projects, quizzes, and tests; I was so overwhelmed.
Overall the online course is decent and easy to follow. However, the final project is the worstly explained assignment ever, she gives no directions or says how the assignment will be graded and gives close to no information on the project itself. Dropped from an A to a B because the final project that had no directions.
Very difficult course for people who have no interest in economics. The professor requires hours worth of homework and home study making the class extremely unenjoyable. I find it less about learning and applying lessons taught, and more about trying to complete everything on time to ridiculously high standards.
Im almost done with my bachelors and out of all the professors Ive ever had, shes by far gives the most assignments and hw its TRULY RIDICULOUS and absurd!! I used to do homework everyday FOR HOURS and would sometimes go to bed at 4am from doing all the assignments. Way too much work. Seriously BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!! Reviews are 100% accurate.
She is very passionate about economics; however if that is not your major, she makes the class more difficult than it need to be. This is my first time ever writing on this site I am warning unless you are an economics major or truly care for school, do not take her. She has this end of the year project and the criteria is not clear and no advice.
Professor Thorsen is a great, for macro there is a stock project that takes 8 weeks the project is challenging but doable if there is anything you are unsure about she will guide you through it. I vividly remember reading the reviews out of curiosity and immediately regretting my decision. The reviews are 100% accurate. The amount of assignments she gives is absurd, she expects you to know exactly what she wanted you to do without even telling you, made the class a lot harder than it needed to be. Avoid this professor like the plague.
This is a hard subject and I took it online in 6 weeks which made it even harder. I enjoyed the professor though. She is extremely knowledgeable and is willing to offer extra help. This is not an easy A, you will have to work. Good challenge. Shes clear with her expectations and fair in her grading. Just wish her other Econ classes had nights!
the semester isn't even over yet and I regretted taking this class. Not only does she give you so much homework that have to be done in a week. She doesn't even announce that she posted them online. IF your taking this class because you have to ,STAY AWAY and pick another teacher. shes not worth it trust me.
Prof Thorsen has a very unique teaching style. She expects you to do the readings accompanied with homework and class time is used to clarify and elaborate on topics (which is explained to you on the syllabus and) She drops the lowest test grade and sets her expectations clearly. As long as you practice and do the work, you'll pass.
I currently have this professor and ALL of her negative reviews are true. I would rather take a night class than to have her again. You have 2 HW assignments for EVERY chapter, her tests are hard, the group project is a lot of work, and she is rudely sarcastic. She makes macro harder than it needs to be, AVOID THIS CLASS AT All COSTS.
I am currently in this course online and regret not sticking to the rates on here. She gives so much homework and so much quizzes, she makes it seems as if you can teach yourself Macro through her lectures online. The lectures dont even align with each other that much on there. I would never recommend this professor to anyone.
Honestly, don't take her. I struggled way too much I this class, specially since it was online. She'll give you an 80% on something and leave a comment like "ok?" which was very not encouraging. GIVES WAY TOO MUCH HOMEWORK. Each lesson adds up to about 150+ questions when adding the practice tests, homework, and learn smart homework. Stay away!
I took her last semester in person for macro and I'm taking her now for micro online. I wish more teachers taught this subject, so I wouldn't be stuck picking her. She makes her online class extremely hard, she gives an unnecessary amount of HW (5 assignments/task per Chapter ). The way she structures her class is not effective at all.
By far one of the worst professors/teachers Ive ever had. Gives out way too much homework and expects her class to come before any one elses. Her lectures are bland and half the time they are very unclear. If you can avoid taking her, please do. Itll save you so much stress and time.... highly recommend to stay away from her and her classes.
There are kind and good teachers, there are strict but good teachers... and then there's Thorsen. She sucks. Seems nice the first week but has no idea how to teach. She gave us MORE work during this COVID outbreak and her style of teaching is awful. You could compare her to a character from "The Tim and Eric Show" better than a professor. A joke.
During the situation with COVID-19 and in class, she wasn't helpful at all. Emails would be answered very slowly or late, she wouldn't give a thorough explanation of anything, and she's very rude when you ask any kind of question. Absolutely do not work together or help classmates unless told to do so, she will hold everything against you. Goodluck
Exceptionally heavy course-load. 2 chapters a week include 3 homework assignments each, 2 discussion posts each and additional assignment each week including 4 exams and a final exam, final project and blod discussion. Tough grader, is not clear on assignment instructions. RUDE demeanor.
I'm in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and I couldn't even stay in this class. Dr. Thorsen tries to make her students fail. She lives her days in class feeding off of students' failures. If you are more of an independent learner don't take this class. I prefer a professor that wants to help their student succeed rather than take them down.
Stay away!! Its very hard to understand her lectures beecause shes very broad and goes off topic a lot. Definitely spent my time in the SLC lab and teaching myself. She also assigns a stock project so make sure you pick a good group because you all get the same grade.
I would not suggest this professor, however if you have to take her, do the online version. She shows you how to do problem sets after the due dates, gives a lot of busy work, and all around is not a great teacher. However, if you take the online course it is somewhat easier. btw HUGE end of the semester project!
I am taking her online class. She is unprofessional, not welcoming with a rude demeanor. She will flood up your time and email. She is not direct, and when you approach her she will treat you like you don't pay attention. 5-part exam, multiple chapters of readings&assignments w short due dates, big two part project, and a paper with a powerpoint.
Professor Thorsen is fantastic, i highly recommend! I took her for both Micro and Macro economics and learned so much. Thorsen really makes sure you understand the material and grades fairly. She wants you to succeed and offers to meet outside of class to help you. I took her throughout the pandemic and she was so kind and caring! 100% recommend.
Professor Thorsen is an average professor she will grade your work fairly quickly and I honestly think if you stay on top of everything and participate she will be more generous with her grading. lots of homework, 5 tests lowest one gets dropped, two projects. Just be ready to have a lot of homework. Also I took this class in a 6 week period.
Professor Deborah Thorsen was very unhelpful and rude. It seems she wants students to fail by the way she treats them. Never take her class.
Took this class online during the pandemic. She gives tons of homework and does not leave feedback on half of all assignments. The feedback she does leave is pretty much useless and seems sarcastic at times.
Professor Thorsen is a solid teacher with good foundations. This class was hard for me because I do better in person (which isnt her fault), but if we were in person I wouldve done better. She gives good feedback and is always available to help you if you need it. Be prepared: this class is pretty difficult though. Take micro first!
Professor Thorsen doesnt sugar coat when she says the material in the course can be overwhelming and stressful at times. The powerpoint lectures arent sent to the class and she doesnt let her students record them. Also, the tests are very challenging and not similar to the powerpoint presentation.
One of the rude at professors I have ever met. She grades hard and doesnt leave much feedback to tell you what you did wrong. She talks in circles and is very unclear. But treats her students like they are belittled and if we do not understand something she makes sure we feel bad about it absolutely worst professor I have ever taken.
She's just a bad, inconvenient, and rude teacher. She is the opposite of understanding; she will never give you leeway for genuine connectivity or personal issues. She doesn't connect with her students; you can't get on a call with her and she almost never responds to emails. There are many other reasons to avoid her. She really lives up to a 2/5.
Avoid in person or online. In person she would never take time to explain concepts and would never engage with the class. The transition to online made her even harder to communicate with and her lectures even worse. She was very rude and her feedback was informal and not helpful at all. I cannot stress enough to find a different teacher.
This was one of the worse courses I have ever taken. The professor is rude and does not allow for questions, you basically have to teach yourself the lessons. The lessons are extremely hard and she does not know how to explain it well and get students interested. There is a final project, which she does not give clear instructions about.
Avoid at all costs! She could care less if you pass or fail. You you have nearly 10+ assignments due every week that each require at least 1 hour of work and everything is worth LITERALLY 5-10 points. This course is supposed to very simple yet she requires you to do an unnecessary amount of work. BTW She does use Lockdown Browser for exams. AVOID!!
Never satisfied with writing assignments but will not show the correct way to do it. You cannot get in contact with her and even if you do she isn't likely to accommodate you. Get ready to do study at least 7-9 hours a week.
Signed up for this course late and she was the only option left (which makes perfect sense now that I took her class). VERY difficult to understand and honestly the lectures do not help. So many assignments each week that were very hard to keep up with. The tests are lockdown browser too. Beware!
She assigns a lot of work, and doesn't allow late work. Manage your time well. I also told her about my health problem and she refused to make accommodations unless I had evidence, which is weird.

Professor Thorsen uses lots of Connect assignments therefore the textbook is very useful during the class. Exams are graded VERY heavy so make sure you study for those.

Professor, if you are reading this. You need to learn how to be organized, this is the most disorganized class I have ever taken. For the sake of your future students be ORGANIZED. Just clicking on grades and seeming the unnecessary amount of connect assignments + your inaccurate formula to calculate the final grade gave me anxiety, literally.
Do not take this teacher. Ruined my summer with a 6-week class. 15-20 assignments due each week, such a difficult grader for no reason. Should be more forgiving with grades when there is so much due in one week. Absolutely awful, she clearly has way too much time on her hands. Save yourself from this awful class.
I would not recommend this course to anybody. She over-loads us with so much work due in such little time and doesn't even accept ANY late work or make-ups AT ALL which I believe is very inconsiderate considering we have other lives outside of her class, other classes, and jobs she doesn't care no work will be accepted after 11:59pm, no exceptions.
This class taught me to look up a professor before taking their class. She gives A LOT of homework, a lot of discussions on top of the numerous Connect modules that you have to complete. I had to withdraw from another class in order not to fail hers. if you have a job, and kids, and you are taking other classes, I beg you to find another professor.
BEWEAR!! Would not recommend this professor, you could probably pass the class, but you would have to deal with her rude and snarky attitude first. She will make you feel like you're dumb if you get something wrong! If you ask for help she will technically degrade you in front of the whole class!

I am a Sophomore with a 4.0 GPA...until this class. She grades assignments and projects based on her thoughts and not with a rubric (there is no rubric for any assignments). Do not take this class during the Express term, or you will be overwhelmed with more than 4 units per week (like 3-4 hours per unit if you do all the lectures and assignments).
DO NOT TAKE CLASS FROM THIS PROFESSOR. It was, AWFUL. She was extremely rude and was not helpful towards students. And don't even get me started on the workload. It was impossible to get any work done. There were almost 20 assignments due each day and she never helped when you asked a question. She was an extremely slow responder too. Bye. >:(
Please do not take this class unless you want to dedicate HOURS to assignments. She is awfully inconsiderate and is definitely one of those teachers who thinks their class is your only class. She doesn't let you make up assignments OR tests no matter the circumstance. I urge anyone who wants to take her class to get out while they still can.
