great professor. I'd reccomend her to anyone interested in taking this class. She's actually the reason why I've decided to major in Anthropology. Just do your readings and assignments, come to class, and participate and you'll do great. Ms.Wagner cares about her students and makes class interesting.
awesome teacher, great teacher, makes everything interesting and opens your eyes to new situations and helps to realize the world around you. great teacher, my favorite class so far.
Great professor. Fun and informitive. Actually wants to hear your ideas and what you think even if it is not what she personally thinks. Makes you think for yourself and challanges you to move past conventional thought. TAKE HER! She is amazing. However, still has alot of course work and you need to attend class to understand what is going on
This professor is AMAZING! If you aren't an anthro major, warning, she might change your mind. She's THAT good! Doing assignments (which are reasonable) and showing up are important. But she won't trick you, and the class opens your mind so much. THE best professor!
She is a great professor. She gives reviews that are exactly like the test and offers extra credit opportunies as well. I was intrested in taking Anthropology, but she made the class fun and very intresting. Highly recomend.
Had her for INTRO to ANT. The best class ever!! Didn't know much about ANT but made it very interesting. Go to class everyday and she gives extra credit at the end of the semester. Test are exactly like the reviews so study them. Very easy to talk to. I wish she taught other classes at UTSA.
I was not interested in this class, at first. She makes the class sound a lot harder than it is on the first day. Lectures are very interesting for the most part, she ties in present happenings to the class. Tests are not hard and come DIRECTLY from the study guide. Overall, this is a great class, even if you aren't an anthropology major.
Great professor, she really engages the class and encourages a lot of discussion and critical thinking. Read the text and you should get an A.
takes role EVERYDAY! lectures entire class. subject matter is pretty intersting. she knows what shes talking about. dont get on her bad side!!! expects you to read and do your part. grades on class participation sometimes :/ dont take if you want an easy A---have to work hard for it!
FUn teacher, but I might not recoomend unless you are an anthroplogy major. I considered the material at some points to be very difficult, and I have taken genetics, and statistic to compare this course to. Alot of class work. She keeps you busy all semester. SHe is a very animated and interesting woman. THis is NOT a blow off course though.
This class is somewhat easy and here what you need to know about this class: 1.) Journal 20%, SUPER EASY 2.) 4 Test 80% ALL have reviews, pretty easy if you study the review and do your journal reading which ALWAYS interesting 3.) No midterm & final is NOT comprehensive! 4.) Review is 90-80% of what is on the review, 20-10% on journal & reading! L
What a great class, and a great professor. Professor Wagner makes the class very interesting, and has alot of class discussions. She is very organized, and most the class is taking notes and discussing readings. If you attend class, do your homework and study her reviews for the test, there is no reason why you shouldnt make an A or B in the course
great, she make lectures fun. just read the book and you should do fine, oh and she takes attendence everyday
she does not make the lectures boring at all, and encourages group participation, furthering everyone's interest in the class.
One of the best teachers that I have ever taken. I wasn't to sure what to expect of this class, but she made it so much fun. If you have the option to take this class I recommend taking it, it is alot of fun.
Guess I'll continue the positive remarks. Very engaging teacher. Expects participation. You will need to read in order to keep up, but it's reasonable. It is important to come to class to participate, but is very interesting. A little on the hippie side, which makes class fun at times. Helps to be interested in the subject though. Would take again.
Great class nice lady just read
Fun class, passonate teacher. I received a B but was not her fav student. Frowns a whole lot if she does not agree with your opinion. Interesting class discussions. In general I dislike ANT linguistics but enjoyed her course.
One of the best.
Now I know y anthropology is an important part of education. Walls and gates do not a community make. Prof Wagner's passion for the content is omnipresent, but her leadership style is far from omnipotent. There's room for every viewpoint but prepare to have your's broadened. Looking forward to Intro to Cultural in Fall 08!
Wagner is great! Face it linguistics is not most peoples cup o' tea but she shows you just how much power verbal and non verbal communcation hold in society. Her class is interesting and anyone with an opinion will be given a fair chance to speak. Many very intriguing converstions in this class. lots of readings but not difficult to complete at all
This class is not hard. I came in to it not liking anthropology and have decided t take 2 more courses on it next semester. Her class is very open and based on discussion rather than lecture. If you attend class and take notes it is an easy A. Simple vocab. quizzes make for an easy quiz average.
She is the greatest teacher Ive had at this school! She is very intelligent and well spoken. We were able to speak our minds and class and she created a perfect canvas for us to argue and learn and open our minds to different ideas. This class was a blast and everyone should be required to take a class with her!
There are many quizzes, tests, and homework everyday. Attendance/class participation is mandatory, BUT if she doesn't agree with you, she gets mad. She presses her opinion and it gets frustrating if you are of more politically conservative beliefs. Unless you are a hardcore hippy, you WILL NOT enjoy the class!!!
Couldn't stand this class... thank god it's over... be prepared to swallow your opinions if you take her. if you disagree with her, she gets pissy. attendance graded and manditory, treats everyone like their anthropology majors. horrible class... thank god its over.
This woman is a very dedicated person who believes in teaching students to think for themselves. Please do not be fooled by negative comments! In this class you do have to participate, no easy A's just for registering! If you actually are looking for a teacher who is very smart and easy to talk to but not afraid to really teach this is your lady!
I enjoyed the class. As long as you do the reading and attend class, there's no reason to get below an A. She gives good study guides and powerpoint presentations that are easy to follow.
She is passionate about Anthropology and is hilarious. She'll make you want to change your major to anthropology. I highly recommend.
This class is awesome, Professor Wagner is amazingly smart and funny. She really makes you bend your perceptions. Go to class every day, participate, do every bit of reading, and study hard and you'll do well. It is a content intense course, but very very fun
Wagner is an amazing teacher. She opens you to a whole new set of ideas and life. Attendence is a must. There are four tests and several quizes. The quizes are extremely and good GPA boosters. She gives reviews for tests and everything on the test is on the review.
Professor Wagner is one of the most amazing professors I've ever had. She is extremely intelligent about the material and she makes it interesting. Attendance is necessary because most of what comes from the quizzes and tests are interpretation, which you can only get from in class discussion. If you're not an ANT mjr, don't expect an easy class!
Deborah Wagner has been the most influential professor of my college career.
Attendance is mandatory and she takes the role daily. I was confused at the beginning, but if you just read your book and do all your assignments, you will do well. She is a great teacher, very intense and demands your attention, she calls people out who are not paying attention.
I have taken prof Wagner 3 times now. You have to attend her classes, do the readings and she likes to have discussion in class. While she does expect you to put an effort into her classes they are not impossible. Personally she is one of my favorite professors but if you are not willing to work then i would not recommend her.
she's great, persistent and makes things interesting to say the least =]
GREAT TEACHER! Attending lecture is a must and is highly rewarding. A lot of class discussion. Usually one quiz a week, no essays, and the tests are very easy if you use her study guides. Her no laptop policy was a little off-putting, but definitely worth the hassle of taking notes by hand. Run, don?t walk, to sign up for any of her classes.
Prof Wagner is an amazing professor and I am so glad I enrolled in her class! Attendance is mandatory, however going to her class usually brightened up my day anyway! She makes sure everyone gets involved, and makes it interesting and fun! She has definitely turned out to be one of the more influential and fun professors of my college career.
Wagner is great! Attendance is mandatory and she is one tough cookie but overall the class is very enjoyable. Read everything she gives you and talk and discuss in her class. not the easiest teacher but you will definitely learn the most.
Prof Wagner challenged me and I like that. Isn't that why we're here? Students get to interact and make the lesson clear. She lets you know exactly what's expected. No surprises except for the hot topics. If you want to feel smarter than avg come to this class. I got the skills I always needed to talk about my opinions and understand others.
AWFUL class--and I'm an Anthro major! This instructor is,in a word, PEDANTIC. Readings are excessive and just there to indulge her political agenda, not to explore any other relevant topics . She ignores any differing opinions. Unless you want to sit through a feminism class disguised as an anthro class, I wouldn't recommend it. VERY DISAPPOINTED.
Overall, this class was tedious, but easy. She's a great teacher and very good at expressing her views. Only problem I had in this class were the five essays we had to write. The way she graded them was HORRIBLE, she does not want any innovative thinking and expects to write like we are in elementary school. She was also extremely disorganized.
Passionate Professor. Made tedious subject for me very interesting. Attendance not mandatory but has sign in sheet. Easy quiz almost once a week (good for GPA) and easy extra credit for those who show up for class. Exams relatively easy using her study guide. Only wish she gave uploaded it more than 48 hours in advance. Highly recommend!
great professor for Language, Thought & Culture. Super brilliant, interesting lectures, very enlightening
I thought she was a great teacher. Passionate, well articulated and tries to help her students when they ask. If you comevto class everyday, you're pretty much guaranteed a B on the tests (worth it!) because while a lot of the materials on the test comes from the book, a big chunk comes from lectures. And do the review (it helps big time!!!)
Wagner was awesome! She is very knowledgable and welcoming of argument. The class itself is very stimulating and you will learn alot about yourself by just listening. She doesn't completely lecture, but instead has a lot of class discussion. Also, she has an awesome tattoo on her leg that I thought was not real until I saw it everyday! Check it out
I'm a history major but value the insights into the human condition that Antropology gives me. Proff. Wagner is brillent! She challenges her students to view the world from entirerly new perpective. This is not easy but not that hard either. Follow the sylabus, read all assigned readings and
Wagner is such a great prof! She really knows her stuff and wants to help you understand it to the best of her ability. Attendance is mandatory because of pop quizzes & random attendance checks. If you just read the assignments and do your part you will do good!
AWESOME professor. I pretty much took this class as a fluke, but I'm glad I did. It quickly became my favorite class. She's one of those teachers that I believe gets a kick out of blowing students minds at least once a semester. Its a fun class, not to hard. But you do have to show up. Not that you'll mind though, classes are very enjoyable.
Awesome Professor! Really made going to class enjoyable. Attendance is mandatory but like others have stated you will not mind. not the easiest class to understand but also not the hardest.
She looks like Samantha from Sex and the City. She's a really amazing professor that will teach you in mind altering ways!
gives out way too much work, its crazy!! She knows it too and will say i know it's a lot but thats what you signed up for. She needs to realize everyone is not a anthro major or her. You cannot make an A in her class unless you tell her what she wants to hear which is not clear at times. Take her class if you do not have a life. DEATH CLASS!!!
Mrs Wagner is the best teacher I have had since I entered University and this is my senior year!
Everyone that's praising her right now is brainwashed. I'm only taking her class because it's required. This class is basically ALL about her opinion. If you speak your opinion and she doesnt like it, then she blows it off and calls someone that gives her what she wants. Tons of work and no leniency at all. Take someone else if you can.
The work load is huge & lectures are incomplete & abstract. If you learn by writing she will shut her PP slide off for good if too many people are writing instead of just memorizing what she says. Anything "real" going on in your life(family, work),skip this. Buy LOTS of ink & paper for the pretentious readings & enjoy being talked down to.
She is really chill but she assigns a lot of reading and she expects you to annotate so she can pick it up. She picks it up at random though. The material is pretty interesting, and she is a really cool lady if you think the way she does. I'd imagine she is a hippie on her down time haha. Pretty good class.
Yes, it's a lot of reading. Like other people said, it makes you think differently about the world we live in. I took it during the summer and got a B. Lots of class discussion. Part of your grade is based on participation, but the discussions are interesting so you shouldn't have a problem. Do the readings& come to class & you should be fine.
This was my favorite class out of the semester...the material she teaches changes the way you view the world around you. Challenges you to think, rather than write down and regurgitate. The readings were a little much, but they were all fascinating! Highly recommend.
Absolutely my favorite teacher so far. If you are lazy and not willing to work than don't bother, but if you are ready for a real education in Anthropology then TAKE HER CLASS. Do ALL the readings and marginalia and go to class and you will do well. Prof. Wagner does not put up with BS.
She is a great instructor. She requires you to do alot of reading, about 50 pages a week, but the readings are very interesting and worth the effort. I was originally a science major, but Wagners class really changed my while perspective on the world, which later influenced me to become an anthropology major. Take her class:D
I was open minded in taking the class but she makes it horrible!!!DO NOT TAKE HER...she is psycho and controlling. I have learned nothing..it is just common sense unless you're really dumb...it's her talking the whole entire class down to the very last minute and the discussions are sooooo irrelevant to anything.DO NOT TAKE HER
WORST TEACHER! I have come across some horrible teachers but Wagner was the worst. She's very malicious when it comes to Anthropology. She makes it seem like there are no other fields of study out there. Very tedious work ,lectures are boring and irrelivant and she assigns crazy readings to the point you dont have time for other hmwrk. DONT TAKE!!
Professor Wagner class is not hard but the work load is intense. In a week you'll have 60pgs of reading, 2 qiuzes maybe some homework, and some in class assignments. She can also be unclear about her assignments. Dont take to many classes if your taking Wagner you wont have time.
This teacher is awesome. She really makes the lectures interesting. Attendance isn't necessary mandatory, but you don't know when she will give quizes (13 thru sem) Readings for every class. Very interactive teacher. Influenced me to change my major to Anthropology. Do take!
She was an awesome teacher I hope I can get her next semester
There is so much reading in this class, and attendence is mandatory because there are quizes and in class assignments all the time. Participation is a must in her class and do not be the one to disagree with her she tends to ignore or shoot down your opinions!
Amazing prof! Very interesting and she is able to make the boring stuff fun. Must study. There is a lot of material but it is totally worth it. She knows so much and is passionate about the subject. Attend class regularly. Her lectures are very important. She loves discussions so talk and always read the readings.
I'm glad its over.
Yeah there's a lot of reading, and going to class is a must to pass it. However, she makes it very interesting! As long as you study for the tests, pay attention and take good notes, you'll do fine! The reading isn't so bad when you do it in advance... at least in my experience. ;)
She stole my interest when we got to list a bunch of derogatory terms for men and women at the beginning of the semester. Tons of reading, but that shouldn't come as a surprise to the anthro majors. She's funny, super knowledgeable, and really wants her students to enjoy the class.
Very passionate about her class. Shows very informational and interesting films in class. You will not regret having her as a teacher!
This class DOES require alot of reading and there are random quizzes, making attendance mandatory. But, professor Wagner really makes class go by fast by making things interesting. She often shows movies or youtube clips to further emphasis the topic. Also very helpful, tests are very easy if you go to class and pay attention.
The lecture is VERY interesting! Most of the topics we cover in class are relateable to just about everyone. Going to class everyday is a MUST because we take ALOT of quizes at the beginning. Test are fair, study guide is really helpful. Shes wonderful! Her SI Will sucks at grading though!
Professor Wagnar and her TA, Will, were great teacher. Lots of reading, but very interesting readings. Must come to class to be successful in getting a good grade. I recommend taking her.
This course was very writing-intensive, but she does a great job making the material easy to relate to. I appreciated the amount of work we did. This is a college-level course, so we covered about as much material as I expected. She is very passionate and intelligent.
I took her for Cultural Anthropology. I have to say that she is very passionate when it comes to lecturing. This class requires a crapload of reading, mainly articles. There will be a total of 12 pop quizzes on them. They are fairly easy if you read them over a couple of times. Attendance is mandatory. BEST ANTHRO INSTRUCTOR you will ever get.
I loved this class but it took a lot of work. She assigns a lot of readings and there are a lo of quizes. She has a varied lecture style, incorporating many forms of media, which keeps the class interesting.
I've taken two of her classes, and both were very interesting. Attendance isn't taken, but you will have NO chance of making an A if you blow off going to class and reading. Some students are sort of intimidated by Prof. Wagner, but you'll see that she has a great sense of humor and is very enthusiastic about Anthropology.
Great Intro class, good for non-ANTH majors. Lots of reading and you MUST go to class, but follow her instructions to the letter and you'll get at least a B. She is very literal on her directions. Tons of articles to read, but they're all interesting!
Took her SS Native American rituals class, title was mildly deceiving. Mostly a study of ANTH theorists in a context of NA history. Interesting, but TONS of reading and about 1/2 the class dropped. She knows its an UPPER division course, and expects you to devote your life to it.
I worked hard for my A, with Professor Wagnner's help. She knows students are smart enough to understand the material, so she doesn't lower her expectations from students. It's an easy A as long as you're willing to show up to class and read the material..which shouldn't be such a shocker for everyone in an upper division college course.
I have taken 3 courses with Dr. Wagner and have done well in all of them. It is true, you MUST attend every class and read every assigned reading to get an A. She definitely holds students to a higher standard, but I was willing to do the work and reap the rewards.
This class was difficult for me. Prof. Wagner is an intense instructor and expects 100% attendance. She also expects discussions in class on the readings for that day. I learned a lot, but I feel that I didn't get a good grade. The tests are difficult.
Man o man, Where to start....Well Prof Wagner(now Moon) is definitely a very intimidating person but if you go and talk to her, it all goes away. Her course is very difficult because application is key, you can read all day in her class and still not get it. Shes a great lecturer, person, and overall teacher. If you like challenge, take her courses
Get ready for lots of reading. class is not really lecture based. have to actually talk to her. too much work for a freshman level course.
I LOVED this class. She made it so interesting and you can tell she really cares about her students. I thought the reading was about the same as other classes. This class made me want to change my major. She is a great teacher.
Professor Moon (as she prefers to be called) is my absolute favorite teacher. She is tough, and her lectures can be a bit above your head, but if you do all of the assigned readings and participate in the discussions, you'll do fine. The secret is to go to her office hours ;) She's super chill while in her office, and the office itself is stellar!
I love her! Teaches amazing! great lectures, never boring! tests are fair usually medium to easy! gives a review! read either one or two readings per week usually 8 pages long + or -! and read a total of 3 books! Love her, you get the grade you deserve by putting the work in! Cannot skip class and pass, you will fail! GPA booster if you work for it
This class was jus awful
Prof. Wagner/Moon is an intense lecturer who demands informed participation which can be lively and exciting, if you've read the material. Unfortunately, she brings a lot of theories from outside the class that you may not be aware of. She also blames the students for failure, never taking responsibility. Difficult to approach for help. Avoid!!!
She's a really good professor, her lectures are very entertaining you just have to be willing to participate but overall an awesome class!
Her class has been the best of all the courses I've taken in my life! Her lectures are the best, you should expect homework, reading or watching videos to be prepared for the class lecture. You honestly learn so much and you're basically forced to see things differently, by the end of the semester you are used to seeing things from another angle.
I took Professor Moon's L,T&C class and though it wasnt an easy A, i thoroughly enjoyed it. Class discussions were interesting and her lectures are very clear and easy to understand. Homework is usually reading around 10-15 pages before class from textbook or online and there were only 2 tests the whole semester and one, large, 3-part project.
She's a good Professor
Professor Wagner "Moon" was probably one of the worst teachers I've had. She is horrible at clarifying assignments and projects and is one of those teachers that if you don't say anything or do anything her way, it's wrong. She also is really hard on grading.
Professor Moon is the bomb dot com. Loved all of her lectures and she loves to have discussions in class, which are always interesting. Her sex and gender course is by far one of the most interesting courses I've taken so far. There's a lot of reading but it's always entertaining. Exams are clear cut and present a chance to show off knowledge.
She is one of the best professors I've ever had. Attendance is mandatory because her lectures are very crucial to doing well on the 3 tests you'll have. She is an amazing teacher who really makes you think during lectures and engages you. This class has a TON of reading that is not easy to get through. But if you work hard, you can get an A.
Professor Moon is a good professor, but assigns a lot of work.
Professor Wagner was a professor somewhat set in her ways. There were times when she would ask for student feedback to help create an assignment rubric, but at other times, our feedback didn't matter whatsoever. I still enjoyed her class because she used different types of media to teach and allowed us to choose what we focused our research on.
Professor Wagner is great at what she does. You can immediately tell she is passionate about the subject she's teaching. She explains the core concepts well, and uses various examples to make sure the class was able to understand the material. Quizzes almost daily but she drops the lowest 5. Go to class because lectures are key to passing exams!
Professor Wagner teaches well, she is always helpful in her office hours and encourages you to come see her, tests will have at least 2 essay questions. Reading is key, a new reading (article or book) everyday and gives a BUNCH of quizzes, helps you if you read though very easy! Wants you to talk in class it is a must.
Poor. Being a senior now I have come across many different professors but Ms. Wagner "Moon" was by far the worst. Very unorganized and wouldn't help much in clarifying assignments. I felt like I didn't learn anything useful as she wouldn't teach due to the fact that she wanted us to teach each other. I respect teachers but she was just horrendous.
Prof. Wagner/ Moon is a very energetic professor who LOVES participation from her students. Course can be a bit muddy and confusing at times, but her office hours are helpful and she is a very kind teacher. Lectures are majority discussion based so READ (Daily Quizzes) & SPEAK UP,and do the work and you should be fine.
Professor Moon has a true gift for connecting students to her diverse materials. I highly recommend her to anyone who seeks a deep understanding of cultures and how they relate to us as individuals.
This class was HARD, no TA grades were always late, her exams are fairly easy on the scan-tron part, but she gives a 5 page paper to do 4 days before each exam! LOTS of reading, 3 textbooks, a bunch of long articles, quizzes everyday so you have to read. Don't take this if you have a heavy load already. this class requires a presentation project.
Prof Wagner/Moon is a nice person who tries her best, but is a very frustrating individual. She is very impatient and gets mad when you do not understand things. The worst part is that she likes to push people's buttons and it comes off as confrontational and eggs people on until they become mad. She also gets mad at dumb little things.
Professor Wagner aka Moon, provided such an engaging and provocative semester for LNG, THT, CLTR. We had 2 exams (no final), a daily quiz, and a three part blog project. IF YOU ARE A LAZY STUDENT, DO NOT TAKE. If you actually want to grow and become exposed to thought provoking (sometimes uncomfortable) material, then take this class. LOVED HER!
Professor Wagner was amazing as a teacher ,but as a person she is annoying. Besides the fact that she gets mad at the smallest things like people not looking ecstatic when listening to her lectures. Overall the class was amazing. She is passionate about what she does for sure. There are reading quizzes almost everyday, but the class is an easy A.
I dropped the course I made this decision myself because I was doing bad in this class and it was a class that was not required for my major. ANYHOW professor Wagner is awesome this class is really interesting and she is really funny pay attention and do your work or you'll fall behind! I learned so much from the short period i was there.
This class is very interesting. Before, I had no idea what anthropology even was and now Im interested in it.
There is plenty of reading to do in her class, but as long as you keep up you will do fine.
Also took her Sex and Gender class. People complaining are probably just lazy and looking for an easy A. It's college- reading and discussion based classes are the norm. Excellent professor. Great class discussions. She gets frustrated when students don't participate, but you can't blame her for that. I'd be irritated too if no one did their work.
Favorite teacher !!!
The class isn't tough, she just makes things a little more difficult than they need to be sometimes. But overall, she is an amazing professor and she really loves and cares about what she's doing.
Professor Wagner/Moon is not approachable at ALL! She says she is willing to help but when you ask she degrades you and your questions. Her lectures are good, but thats about it!
Professor Moon will make you read, whether you like it or not! Luckily, nearly all of the readings were interesting, and they're all fairly long too. It's exactly what I expect from a college course and this is the first class where I've learned so much about very recent relevant and controversial topics. No phones allowed though!
Took her for Sex, Gender, and Culture. LIFE CHANGING CLASS. I loved her and the material. Do not take this class if you do not want to read--she expects a lot from her students. No exams or final, just 5 essays, daily quizzes, and completed marginalia. All the essays made me grow so much as a writer. Would def take again!
Professor Moon cares about her students. I have had her for multiple classes; Language, Thought, and Culture and multiple Native American Studies courses. She provides a good amount of extra credit in Language, Thought, and Culture and also allowed for Exam corrections to receive 70% at most. She is also a great lecturer in all courses she teaches
Her class is great and there was always a really fun lecture. She is really passionate about her teaching and really cares about her students, the reading may suck but they're necessary if you want to do good on the exams which aren't that difficult.
All I have to say is TAKE ANT 2063 WITH PROFESSOR MOON(WAGNER) YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. IT IS WORTH ALL THE WORK TO BE IN HER CLASS AND LEARN EVERYTHING YOU DO ABOUT THE WORLD. "Your life beings at the end of your comfort zone."
Right away, I could tell that this was one of those classes where the instructor truly cares. It's an interesting class as well. Why is it not a 4.0? Because while I do enjoy this class, I find many of her syllabus rules to be excessive. This is college, not grade school. I'm truly dumbfounded by how strict her rules are and Im an obedient student.
Pretty solid overall. A lot of the class time is people raising their hands and contributing to the larger group discussion, usually entertaining. Tests aren't too hard, she'll post study guides for each test. Downside is that tablets, laptops, phones aren't allowed so if you absolutely have to take notes on an electronic device, don't take her.
There were readings for most classes followed by quiz's then lecture/discussions. Do the readings and you will do well. The instructor is a fair grader but demanding as far as in-class participation goes.
Professor Wagner gives you about 30 pages of reading to do in 2 days then gives you a quiz on what you were suppose to read, keep in mind this is how it was pretty much the whole semester. She gives opportunities to make up exams but you'll have to really work for it. Get ready to work but with effort you can still pass.
Dr. Moon is an amazing professor. She is so passionate about what she teaches that you end up seeing things around you in a different perspective. She does require you to read two things throughout her course but if you read you should be fine. What is important is that you TRY and study because she only has TWO tests so make them count for you.
Pros: She is very knowledgeable/ passionate about the subject, as long as you go to class/ read you should do good, EC options, test review given, interesting Cons: Old fashioned/no tech use, must read and print a lot of material, sometimes over complicates simple concepts, treats the class like children, interrupts when concentrating
Professor Moon is one of the best professors I have ever taken. She cares so much about her students and works hard to ensure they pass. If you have perfect attendance she gives you 3 extra credit points at the end of the semester and she gives you 4 chances for extra credit throughout the semester. You do read a lot but it is all interesting
Prof Wagner is very singular in her world views. I feel that if you dont tow the liberal party line there could be repercussions. I never felt like I was there to discuss issues, but to blindly accept her one sided truth. She was always on time, prepared, and the class was interesting but I would not take her again.
Prof Moon changed the way I think about cultures. Yeah, theres reading, but thats what college is for. She always challenges students and even though she has rules, you can tell that its because she cares. If your prepared for class and participate, you will do well. If you came to college to learn, take her class!!!
Lots and lots of reading required for daily quizzes. Gonna need a scantron everyday. This is one of those discuss with your partner and everybody has to join in on the discussion classes. Gave reviews before each exam. Really cares but all the reading is a bit excessive, especially for an entry level class. Would recommend her if last choice.
The MOST amazing class I have taken so far. She makes the content relatable and easy to understand. There are daily readings but usually not long and interesting, the quizzes for attendance aren't difficult and often times you could guess accurately, but of course I recommend doing the reading in-between classes. Tests are easy. BEST professor.
Dr. Moon is very caring for her students, but is also a really hard grader/has hard tests. Her class was especially hard for me since anthropology is nowhere near my major, but she understood that and really tried helping me understand the lessons. She really tries to make you think outside the box.
Pros: Most passionate professor I've worked with, drops 5 lowest quizzes, 4 opportunities for extra credit, plus extra points for perfect attendance Cons: Treats students like children, no-exit policy even for bathroom breaks ("causes a distraction"), no tech zone, a TON of readings (think 30-50 pages per class), Parscore required for each class
AMAZING. This is actually a class where you learn valuable and interesting things. She tells you from the beginning what she expects. She likes class participation (but won't make you feel dumb). If you go to class and engage in lectures its and easy A. If you have a problem with the reading in this class, you need to rethink college, it aint hard.
Professor Moon/ Wagner is an awesome professor. Passionate about her teaching, yet expects a lot from her students. Quizzes over readings almost daily and a lot of HW. Her tests are easy and class is enjoyable though.
The class reading isn't terrible, but the organization, structure, and explanation of her class is a mess. A lot of the work feels like it's built in for her T.A. to have something to do, busy work for the students. She doesn't allow electronics or GroupMe and she assigned work for us on student study day, knowingly violating uni. policy.
Professor Moon genuinely cares for her students and is passionate about what she teaches. She does have daily quizzes but the readings are very interesting and she drops the lowest 5 quiz grades. Doesn't allow electronics but her lectures are worth listening to. Highly recommend. One of the many great professors i've had.
At first I was extremely anxious about going online for the coronavirus but Prof Moon kept class organized. She had weekly video chats to help us understand what was expected and she even kept live office hours for groups. I never thought I I would love anthropology. Now I even might change my major!
Professor Moon is very passionate with what she teaches and always cares for her students! She makes sure her students understand the lectures. Make sure to print out and follow the lecture guides, they are the key to studying for the tests. She likes class participation and students engaging. Highly recommended!
Professor Moon is a great professor! Her lectures are great and the material that she teaches is truly thought-provoking. Additionally, she genuinely cares about the wellbeing of her students and has been super understanding of the difficulties that students have faced during the transition to online classes this semester.
She used the opportunity of us having to "shelter-in-place" to give us more homework and give us 4 essays for our final. Someone had tried to get her to go down to 3 essays, but she said it was too little. I took this course for my film minor, as a heads up, in this class, you mostly watch documentaries over cultures.
Please do not take this teacher. While she does teach the subject decently, it is at the cost of time and sanity. The quizzes do not help you learn, often they are a "gotcha" quiz in the form of recalling obscure things from the readings. Her classes have no tests but in turn, extremely long papers are due. The coursework is equivalent to 3 classes
I really enjoyed this class. I though Professor Wagner did a great job at teaching and caring about her students. You do have a good amount of work (i.e. lots of reading (assigned chapter book and textbook, films, quizzes, etc.) but it's graded easily. You have 2 exams (no finale), 15-20 quizzes ( lowest 5 dropped), paper, and chapter book quizzes
Professor Moon is awesome! She's really caring and truly wants you to understand the material. However, she expects you to put in the work and pay attention in class. She does not tolerate apathy or disrespect. Bottom line: She will push you to think about issues in a culturally relevant way and grow as a person. I highly recommend professor Moon!
Professor Moon is one of the kindest teachers I have ever had. This class is challenging, but it pushes you to think critically and thats what I love about it. I have taken so much more from this class than just a grade, I have new perspectives on life. That is the heart and soul of what it means to be a student. Professor Moon is great!
TAKE HER CLASSSSS YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE WITH THE CONTENT AND HER TEACHING!!!
She's passionate about folklore and expects her students to be as well! If you don't like weekly readings and essays, this class is NOT for you. She has weekly quizzes over the readings, film assignments, and 2 portfolios about what you've learned. She's clear and follows the syllabus and cares for her students most ardently! Be prepared to learn.
She get frustrated easily with students and doesnt want to understand the students. She gave us 3 weeks to write an essay, then 4 days before it's due she changed the rubric. Word counts were to not exceed 1000 words but couldn't be under 1000 words. Wth? There is too little space here to put everything. I will NEVER take a class with her again.
Attendance and participation are MANDATORY you literally will not pass the class if you don't participate. There are hella readings and if you don't do them you won't pass them either. It's not a hard class but you definitely have to put in the work.
Professor Wagner has been recommended to me by friends and maybe it's because we are online, but this class was not what I thought it was going to be. Don't get me wrong, she's very caring. But, the assignments we have are rather boring and you have to especially pay attention to detail. I would take her if you're just looking to knock out a course
This course is rough. There is a lot of material to read and a really large paper with a ridiculous rubric. If you're good at managing your schedule and assignments then you'll be fine but you can't afford to slack off, or miss a class for that matter. You simply won't be able to pass the course. The professor is kind but the reading is insane.
Professor Wagner has a very prevalent left bias and reflects that in her teachings and in person lectures. There is lots of reading thats time consuming. All of the essay assignments have to be written with a left bias or she will fail you. She will even go as far to argue with students who disagree with her. Avoid if possible!!
there are quizzes every class either over an assigned reading or just for attendance. could vary from 10 pages to 22 pages of reading assigned, she does lengthy class discussions and often gets political, it can be frustrating if you dont agree with her views but just follow the syllabus and show up. its not hard.
Although she's a nice woman, her work and readings are just too much :/ There is at least two different readings in one week and on top of that she makes you read books that are boring. She is very strict.
Professor Wagner (calls herself professor Moon for some reason) is arguably one of the worst professors Ive encountered. Grading takes weeks , even though she has a TA. Too much reading and too strict on class attendance. She also doesnt take sick excuses (Covid or not!)
She's a good professor, made lectures very interesting. watched a lot of videos and read a lot but it's all very interesting. She dropped lowest 6 grades and offered 3 extra credit assignments and also an extra credit assignment for the last exam. Must attend classes and take good notes.
Be prepared to read all materials she assigns because she does do T/F quizzes before almost every class. This class isn't hard at all as long as you pay attention and participate but because she is such a great prof you will want to participate in class. She was very dedicated to her students and gave AMAZING feedback.
Very interesting class and professor! Her lectures are informative and she's great at being intersectional. In class discussions are the norm, so get ready to talk with a partner a lot and hear sometimes questionable opinions from your peers. You'll be fine if you read the assigned readings, attend class, and do her asynchronous work.
She is really sweet and loves what she does. Some grades are real heavy though so you have to make sure not to bomb any. Lots of reading.
One of my favorite teachers, helped me decide to double major just by being in her class and listening to her speak so passionately about Anthropology. You will learn to love reading through the book in this class, very interesting and well picked by Professor!
Prof Moon is passionate about her work & what she teaches to her students. Yes you will do heavy reading at times but she chooses these readings for a reason. Other reviews complained about her being too left-leaning, but please take into consideration that the course descrip. on BB literally says we will discuss social inequalities. Use your head
lots of reading sometimes 15-50 pages a week (depending on if it was a single article or chapters from a book). had daily quizzes most days but it helped me to keep up with readings. we learned interesting concepts about rituals & the roles they play in different cultures. i wish i didnt take 5 other classes so i couldve enjoyed this class more!
WORST TEACHER EVER heid my words..... DO NOT TAKE HER
Took a while to get used to her, she is unique but did create the best learning environment I've been in. She has a no technology rule, but provides lecture notes easy to follow along with and are great reviews for tests. She expects you to read before every class, including one or two books outside of class.Y ou get quizzed over these everyday.
Overall okay professor. Reading/homework/quiz every wk. No final but two tests/ethnography quizzes. Quizzes/test are easy. Blackboard organization is horrendous. Old due dates, readings not posted, missing homework submission links, etc. Study guides can be a confusing mess. Does not follow the note guides provided. Forced to talk. Very leftist.
Extremely dramatic and whined about everything. You cannot leave her class once seated, she literally tells you to stop taking notes and just listen(not helpful at all in a college setting, she throws fits about small things, and forces participation. She is unorganized and a drama queen. Her TA doesn't even help her stay on top of grades.
Best professor I've had. She creates a great learning environment centered around conversation and participation. She's an amazing lecturer and you are expected to read before every class because there are quizzes every class but they're meant to help your grade. She is genuinely curious about her students and will always help.
Professor Wagner is a little strict, but she's a great professor and is quite a funny person too. I took her Witchcraft/Magic and her lectures are amazing. Sometimes her assignments are very confusing. Be aware of her pop quizzes cause that counts as attendance. Overall, a great professor and an amazing class.
You either love her or you hate her. She is a literal nightmare, doesn't care about her students or their wellbeing. All you will do is read pointless papers and have ridiculous discussions wasting class time. Take ANT with Halvaksz or Love for courses, she is not all there. Also, she reads these reviews and will bring them up in class!!
Professor Wagner is passionate about the course material, but can be quite strict. The readings and assignments are intense, but worth the effort. Using unstuckstudy and other study tools helped me stay on top of the workload. Overall, an engaging class if you're willing to put in the work.
Best class I have ever taken, she is so passionate and her lessons are so interesting. she is nothing like the reviews, I wish I could have her in every class, shes so engaging and so incredibly easy to pass. There are daily quizzes tho...
She was one of the best professors I ever had at UTSA, she was so passionate and well-spoken and really encouraged everyone to talk. You will not use any sort of technology in class, and while some may hate it, bringing back more attention to subjects got more class participation and it was nice seeing different perspectives.
Ms. Deborah Wagner is my favorite professor by far.
Prof. Moon is an interesting and passionate professor. This class (if you pay attention) will open your eyes to ways social interactions of all kinds take place. However, The reading can be a little much and inconsistent; sometimes you read 20 pages from the textbook, and other weeks it's just a couple of paragraphs. (Do the study guides to pass)
Hogwarts vibes. Most passionate professor I've ever had. Strongly recommend.
Such a great professor! Her lectures are very informative and cool. Be sure to READDD! If you do not do the readings, then you will do badly on the daily quizzes. Also, please make sure you study hard for the exams. There are only 2 so they are weighted heavy.
She is very clear with her work. Be prepared to read A LOT along with lots of tests/quizzes. No final however the 2 exams are worth 40% of your grade. As long as you pay attention and read what she has for homework you will be okay. She also has daily quizzes that are 5 questions long over hw readings.
No technology, no getting up to use the restroom unless you absolutely have to, no packing up early class, never gets out early, she acts like a high school teacher. Her lectures are all conversations based on reading that she assigns every day, she wants participation or else homework is assigned.
She is a very passionate teacher and good in her own way of explaining things. The class can be interesting if you deeply pay attention and do readings she assigns. I will say that I feel as if she assigns lots of readings, there are quizzes every class, and she loves for you to participate. Not saying don't take the class but prepare yourself.
