Deborah White is amazing. She really teaches you and helps you understand theories. Aslong as you write down everything on the board you can get an A in the class. All the exams are based off of what she writes down on the board. And she gives you the exam questions prior to the test
Great, enthusiastic professor who loves ethics. I learned so much in Debbie's class and be sure to call her Debbie and not Dr. White. Assignments take quite a bit of time to grasp the information but you receive the test questions before the exam. I got an A, not many others did though...
Great professor! She is very friendly and is always willing to help if you have a question. Her class is lively and she makes it fun. The only way to fail is to deliberately not do the homework or prepare for the exams. Easily one of the best professors I have had thus far.
Debbie is a wonderful teacher. Pay attention, take notes, and the test questions come from the notes. No studying required for this class. There are homework assignments 1-2x weekly, but they are not difficult. Overall this class takes an hour a week of your time tops. She's great!
haven't finished this course yet but i already love this class i wouldn't miss one for my life. awesome lady great teacher considerate and down to earth.
Gives extensions on most everything if you ask for them, no questions asked. Very helpful, very enthusiastic about her teaching.
Everything graded is online. Exam questions are very ambiguous but she will personally help you if you ask her after class. She's very lenient with deadlines but don't take it for granted!
took Intro to Ethics online with her. it was a TON of work. a lot of .pdf downloads every week. she is helpful if you ask for help. I wouldn't take another class with her again tho. This was the most difficult intro class I've taken. she gives quizzes every week. no midterm or final tho. good luck.
Debbie was by far the most enthusiastic and friendly professor that I have ever had. 'Introduction to Ethics' is a fascinating class, and the analysis of arguments (premises and conclusions) is one the most important areas of study for those who are invested in the search for truth.
Awesome professor. I took an ethics class over this summer 2012. She is clear on what she is looking for and her advse is great. I would recommend her.
If you are a slacker, pick her classes. she will make sure all the work due even after the semester is over. Lots of leeways, I personally dont like her because in her way it brings about more slackers to this society.
Very clear, very passionate, she tries to scare you off by telling you that she has a ton of work in her class. Though not a class for slackers. She puts her heart into teaching a subject that she loves. If you have an interest in philosophy I would highly recommend her. Always remember to take notes, she bases her assignments heavily off those.
Had her for Intro to Ethics on-line.There is alot of work. Some topics were tough had to read things multiple times to understand it.Test questions were tough, answers are in book but don't jump out at you.She asks for your opinion but if she doesn't like your answer you get partial credit.Need to give effort to get a good grade.

I took Ethics online and the class itself required a good amount of reading, but it was a fairly easy class. As long as you do the assignments, Professor White will give you credit regardless of whether or not you get the answers right. Pretty interesting class. I would definitely take another one of her classes.
Truly a gem of a teacher. I didn't understand ethics at all... and now I do! I struggled at first, but I walked out with an A and was surprisingly one of my most memorable classes so far.
Professor White was the best teacher I've ever had. She took the time to really make sure you understood everything. She also respected the views of everyone even when they were different from her own. She made me think about a lot of things in a different way and helped me to realize how and why I feel the way I do about things. Highly recommend.
This instructor was very informal and unprofessional. She swore so frequently in class that if I closed my eyes I would have assumed she was one of the students. She stretched lectures on for way too long and could not keep students awake. Would not take another class with her.
Easy professor that gives super funny lectures. She is very lenient on the homework and gives you a lot of time to do it. Got an A in that class and only showed like two times because i had someone sign me in every class.
Tons of work. Gives at least 2 quizzes per week and grades your essays as if you are supposed to know every bit of material that is essentially opinions of multiple writersspeakers. This class was more work than Research Methods. It's just obnoxious.
I hate ethics. The quizzes and tests are based on what she says so take notes. Its honestly so boring. She will sometimes show a 20+ min lecture about philosophical debates (not as interesting as it sounds) in class or have you watch a 30+ 1 for hw and then take a test. Blackboard doesn't represent your grade. thought I had an A- but got a B-
Going into Debbie's ethics class I wasn't exactly excited about ethics, but it was a required class. She made it fun, and I ended up looking forward to every class. Her lectures are interactive, and she is definitely open to opposing positions. I would 100% recommend her to anyone that needs or wants to take ethics.
Human being who has exceptional talents Yet chooses to teach. You won't find anyone else like her. She has an exceptional eye to emphatically see her students and cater to their educational foundation. No matter the intelligence level she seeks to only add to it and push you into your projectory of choice. She is the Gandalf to your college exper
Don't do anything in class except sit there and discuss the homework. The homework is confusing but it is all online, and about 75% of it was all multiple choice that you get 2 chances at. It's a very easy class, but it's extremely boring. She doesn't allow phones, so you have to suffer through the boredom. She also hates to see people fail.
You can only miss 3 classes but trust me you'll want to go to every one. Classes are fun and interesting.
Decent class. Lots of readings. If you do the work you will get a good grade.
Honestly think she wrote all of these comments because this is a tough and awful class. Wouldnt recommend to anyone. Shes so boring and all of the tests are open ended and it has to be written perfectly. Ridiculous class. Dont take
Prof. White's class was a breeze for me. If you are able to give philosophical topics some genuine thought, you shouldn't have much difficulty with this class. I did all the readings, and watched the online videos, but rarely attended lectures and managed an A- in the course. As long as you put some effort in, you should do fine.
Her online Intro. Ethics course is great if you put the work in. You can tell she really knows and cares about this topic, super knowledgeable. Multiple short quizzes and exams each week, but if you do the readings it's easy and you get 2 attempts on quizzes. No final or midterm. Everything I would want in an online Professor. Easy A/B
She was rude and if you had a different opinion than her than you better keep your mouth shut
She posts a new quiz/assignment daily with absolutely no advice on the correct or incorrect answers. Most useless teacher and class I have ever taken. If you like being surprised by all means take her class.
Awful teacher, rants on about nothing for an hour and promotes no discussion. However, if you want an easy grade, all her homework is taken from online and is just a google search away. Easy class, awful and boring teacher.
This class is horrible. Its so boring and is impossible to pass any tests unless you can find them online. It is so pointless and has nothing to do with my major. Worst class I have ever taken.
For teaching such a bland subject, Debbie does a great job of making it the best it can. Tests are tough if you don't go to class and completely understand the material.
absolutely awful... way way too much homework, and beyond rude. avoid at all costs
The worst class that I have taken at UML, with the most incompetent professor I have ever met. From the beginning Debbie was unable to effectively use the online tools she used, would dump work on students with little warning, and tests will leave you wondering whether or not you have the correct book. Course planning was laughable. AVOID.
Great Professor. Not necessarily an easy A, but with a bit of effort no problem. Class discussion is great and she helps move them along with her Devil's advocate approach. Only complaint is that there are often students who always chime in with their subjective opinions on every topic need to be handled so as not to take over the entire class time
Professor White was overall a good professor. There was a lot of work to do outside of class, but as long as you stay on top of it, you will do fine. 2 chances at each multiple choice assignment means you should be able to get 100% on all of those. Exams are tougher and you only have 1 chance. The lectures are interesting and make you think.
Her lectures are fun but the issue is the exams, they are really tricky even if you read and went to every lecture... and is 65% of your grade! she will say you can ask her any questions and discuss it IN PERSON but having a full-time schedule with work doesn't allow a student to commit to thatand now my 4.0 GPA will drop and it's not for my major!
The easiest class so far I had. The homework is just answering a few questions on a reading. The readings arent that long. The exams are multiple choice on blackboard. You can easy skim through the reading to find the answers to all of the questions.
Took Professor White for Engineering Ethics, there's weekly required reading (and sometimes videos), although classes will discuss reading if you don't understand. Sometimes there are assignments on readings, due at start of every class. Discussions in class are open, pay attention to these for assignments, they help a lot! Overall good class
Had her for intro to ethics. Class wasn't too difficult, my only issue was that she never put due dates on any of the online assignments, so I ended up missing a few. We watched a lot of videos during lectures, but they were often lead-ins to discussions. She really seemed to know her stuff.
Debbie was an AMAZING teacher for Engineering & Ethics. It wasn't my forte, however I slowly grew to like the class and enjoy the readings involved with it. She does the homework online (via blackboard), due by the start of classes that day. She does a very good job explaining the topics in class and the FREE reading material used for the class.
Very passionate about teaching ethics, which is clear from her lectures. Homework and exams are posted on blackboard. DO NOT FORGET ABOUT THEM. 65% of grade is tests and 35% assignments. MC test questions are ambiguous and tricky though. Put effort into responses and u will get A. Attendance is not mandatory but is for favors., such as test help.
Debbie is a good professor, and PHIL2030 is a good class to take if you're just trying to fulfill a gen ed. All grades are based on online exams which you can come back to later, and online homeworks. If you want to do well, you have to attend lectures and can't just do the HW readings. However, the class isn't much work.
I had Debbie for Intro to Ethics, if you're interested in philosophy or literature, I promise you will love her courses. She's energetic, comical and makes the subject captivating and interesting. She offers fantastic feedback on written assignments. Be prepared to read, I suggest using a text to speech reader. I promise its all worth it though.
I had Debbie for Ethics last semester and her teaching methodis absolutely awful. She didn't take time to explain topics clearly. I had to take the class, and she didn't make the class enjoyable. 10/10 would not recommend her class.
Truly an amazing person! Her lectures are very engaging and interesting, which is unexpected for an ethics course. All exams and assignments are online. Most assignments and exams are multiple choice. You get two chances for MC assignments, but only once chance on exams. You can ask Deborah for help and she'll guide you through the exam! Great Prof
not adjusting at all, grading doesnt make a lot of sense, very long lectures, lots of hard quizzes
A kind and genuine professor. Homework assignments and online exams are easy. Two attempts for homework assignments, one attempt for exams. No final exam. If you attend class, professor allows you to ask if all of your answers are correct. Do not trust outside resources for answers, do the readings. There's practically no way to fail.
Took this class thinking it would be an easy credit I was way off. The homework load is very big, long lectures and tests that are worth more than half your grade are only like 4 questions long. Struggles with technology often. If you communicate she is very understanding but will still make you work hard for everything.
Prof. White was very genuine at lectures. Exams and quizzes were all MC and on Blackboard. Class activities on a software count for attendance and participation grade. All class activities were questions about your opinions, no right or wrong here. The class is super easy and relaxing.
I found myself stressed with workload at times but the class allowed me to build an efficient time management schedule as a result. This is a content heavy elective so keep that in mind. Debbie is an excellent teacher with a deep passion for her content. You will learn a lot and will expand your mind in this class. It's worth the effort :) Goodluck
i have her for intro to ethics right now and her class is okay, at best. it's very easy to miss assignments that are due if you don't check constantly and she assigns a lot of stuff to read that can be dense and not easy to get through. always the same few people participating, feels like i'm not retaining information, just listening to ppl talk :/
While entirely online, I found Professor White's class to be very engaging and conducive to a positive learning environment. She grades assignments each and every week and comments/responds to almost every one. LOTS of reading, but fairly easy assignments. Just don't wait until last minute to start. She's very easy to reach by email, too.
Lots of readings in-between classes, some up to 20 pages. Lots of assignments and professor has trouble with using technology which is a problem with the completely virtual situation. VERY tough grader and class was not enjoyable at all.
Guys just show up, take some notes, participate when she asks. You will pass. Quizzes/Exams could be more challenging than you think so just make sure you have a vague idea of what is going on. Lots of hw assignments but very easy and quick. You'd have to try to fail this course.
Overall very respectful teacher, will go out of her way to help you and even tell you what you got wrong on exams before you submit and try to guide you, but the amount of reading she gives is absolutely insane. Not only that but she is a very tough grader but will sometimes let you revise.
Has a lot of personality. Spends a lot of time on animal rights and pushing vegetarianism on students. politically biased and vocal, but doesn't impact treatment or grading. Unprofessional.
Worst professer at UML! Assign too much reading/homework/exams! before each class ! Does not accept late assignments even for deducted points! Enforce her stupid beleif of Veganism. Please dont take her class if you dont have to!
your supposed to do ALOT of work especially reading but its easy to find loopholes. all written work is based on effort so its easy to get 100 on all of them. "exams" are literally 4-8 mc questions so if you get 1 or 2 wrong its automatically a bad grade and they make up 45% of the grade. the mc is hard too. even when u try to look up the answer
All these scrubs are complaining about the readings but you don't even have to do the whole readings to do the assignments and take the exams. Not to mention the exams are multiple choice and T/F. The questions are as general as a guy name Normans breaded chicken recipe. Intro ethics was a breeze #YoungerDryas
Professor White is by far the worst teacher I have had so far. She is extremely politically bias and isn't afraid to hide it. She expects students to read 20-25 pages and take an impossible exam. Debbie is the definition of the teacher who thinks you chose her class when it is simply an elective
Please dont trust the positve reviews below! She assigns way too much homework for this class and pretends that we have nothing else to do. Her lectures are super boring and you cant skip class because she takes attendance:( Her exams are the worst, and there is no way you can perform good on the exams unless you read all the readings/assignments!
Quizzes are extremely hard. There are a lot of articles and papers that she has you read. The questions are very specific. It's hard class. She's nice though and her lectures were interesting. However, you don't learn much from them but attendance is mandatory.
Had Prof. White (she goes by Debbie) in the fall and found philosophy pretty interesting (coming from an engineering major). Not sure what the complaints are because all of the assignments and tests are on Blackboard AND open book. The readings aren't necessary if you pay attention and participate in discussions. Overall an easy and fun class.
She gives a lot of homework. Every class at least one or two assignments are due but they are easy and all of the answers are in her readings. She loves what she does and her classes are interesting. She grades fairly, gives extra credit options, and even baked us cookies. As long as you keep up with the homework you will get an easy A.
Awesome professor, totally understanding. She can go over tests during office hours, I would go weekly. Easy class, definitely would take her again.
I enjoyed her lectures. All homework, exams were online. Both were multiple choice with some short answer. Exams were hit or miss due to the nature of the Ethics readings and required lectures.
Took the class online, course was structured nicely and not too difficult. Of course I never met in person but based on interactions online she seems like a nice and caring person, and definitely passionate about what she does. There is a lot of reading but if you open the exam or assignments beforehand you will know what to look for.
If you are looking for an easy A, I would not recommend taking this class. Attendance is mandatory and once you miss 3 classes you get 10 points off your grade. She is very intelligent when it comes to ethics. There are online exams every week and homework. The exam questions do not correlate to class at all and are extremely difficult.
This class was okay, but so boring. The class stuff is such a waste of time, it is mostly class discussions and it literally made me fall asleep. The homework is usually multiple choice or short answer assignments, they aren't too bad, but usually, she makes multiple due on the same day and you have to read a lot. Attendance is required.
For a class of this caliber she assigns too much homework and readings, as well as quizzes that are all done online in your own time. Class discussions are impossibly boring and it was hard not to fall asleep. attendance is on a sheet of paper so if you forget to sign in more than twice you will be losing 10% of your total grade per missed class.
A pretty simple class with a pretty nice teacher. Homework doesnt take very long adn the quizzes she gives you canm go over with here to get a better grade. Lectures are usually interesting, but can get a little boring.
This professor isn't a terrible teacher, you should only take this class if you have plenty of time on your hands she makes you go through multiple readings after each class and and the take home videos to watch are hours long that you have to fully watch in order to get any type of good grade on your quizzes. She is also a strict grader on papers
Its a lot of reading that is not accessible. You will have ~ 2 quizzes a week (hard) + 2-3 written assignmts. She gave an extra points assigmt to replaced a missed one. About 2 writing exams. No final test. She let ppl take exams they missed at the end of the semester, but she didnt allow retakes. Unfair prof. Doesnt pay to be a good student.
Professor White was a solid professor, definitely have had worse but not the best. She does lost of lectures and frequent online quizzes and assignments. She doesn't believe in computers you are only allowed to have a notebook on your desk. She allows you to check quiz answers with her before you submit them which is nice.
Professor White is a very good professor, with no exams, papers, or final. She doesn't believe in technology, so no computers or phones. There are mostly small, short answer assignments, mc quizzes, and a few short answer quizzes. Reading homework is assigned every class, but unless there is an assignment attached to it, you do not need to read.
I preface this review by saying that I think that professor White is a nice person. Some issues I've found with the class is that the lectures were dry, and that there were many assignments given with ever changing due dates which makes the grade structure confusing. Attendance is also mandatory, and the syllabus does not reflect that well.
Professor White is enthusiastic about the content. There are a few assignments and many quizzes but they are all short, open note, and easy. She also checks over your quiz answers before you pass them in to get a 100. This class is an easy A. There are no electronics in class and the class is very lecture-heavy. Other than that I highly recommend.
It was a good intro class.
Ethics is a required class, but this professor knows that and has made this semester a good time. FYI no phones or laptops in class. As long as you participate in discussions you'll be just fine. No exams, no papers, etc. Easy, online, open book quizzes.
Class is very easy and there are little assignments. Professor White really cares about the subject but the lectures are very boring and I find it difficult to stay awake in that class. Class is very easy just know the lectures can be a little boring.
Easy A. Take her class
Weekly reading, but quite light. Weekly assignments but they are easy. Often gives full credit for just trying. People who complained on here don't know how to ask themselves questions. That's the point of the whole course. Covers Peter Singer, Plato, Egoism, etc. It's all about forming insight. She's nice and super interested. Very light.
Lectures can be boring and other times amazing. It's sitting for 1.25 hours and listening to a lecture about philosophy. HW is quite easy. I've found myself struggling to stay focused at times. She's very invested in philosophy and quite nice. 3 free excuses; anything over she knocks off 10 points from final grade per class missed. Don't miss class
Good professor with interesting lecture material. Classes centered around group discussion, which I enjoyed. The only issues were that I found myself missing homework assignments I didn't even know were assigned, mainly because it was hard to keep track of what you actually had to do for homework.
Regularly assigns a ton of readings for just a single weekend. Lectures aren't terrible but can be boring. Insane attendance policy that she knocks off 10 points for each unexcused absence after 3. Proceeded to hold class for two extra days beyond what her syllabus states when there'd be no more classes.
This class wasn't very engaging. I slept through have of them, and i only got away with it because there were so many people in the class. You can't use any electronics, but there's no exams. It's only quizzes and assignments. On the quizzes, make sure to check in with her the class before to see if ur answers are right bc that helped me so much.
Brutal attendance policy. Lots of reading assigned. Just use some online tools that help summarize it all *wink wink*.
There is a strict no-phone policy, but her intro to ethics class is easy. No final or exams, just 6 take-home quizzes which she will review before you submit. Attendance is required (3 absences allowed). Her lectures are not as boring as everyone says, it's usually a lot of group discussion and not much talking at us. Very Passionate.
There were many funny moments and friendships built in this class. Some lectures were actually pretty intriguing, and the work is easy to complete. There is a reading to each assignment, and usually, you can ctrl+f to find whatever you're looking for. Some classes were boring, but all you have to do is show up, and it's a great class with friends.
