Holy crap, what a great class taught by an AWESOME professor, this woman knows A LOT! Very enthusiastic about teaching, tests are multiple choice, just study for the quizzes...I recommend this class to anyone!
terrible. i took a different class with her and did not do well with her. she was very unhelpful to students who do not do well. the longest hour and 48 miunutes you will ever endure in your life. extremely boring lecture style. dont take!
Awesome teacher. Very interesting lectures.
She wasnt too bad. Ended up with a B- in the class even though I missed the last two weeks of class. Tests were multiple choice.

Amazing Prof, probably one of the best at OSU, pair her up with Lundman, and you have the best criminology department in the country!
Almost an overview of her 209 and 210 classes. same basic teaching style. organized, clear, tests based on notes. take good notes. 209 and 210 classes are easy enough too... although quizzes can be difficult
Great professor! All you have to do is take good notes and you're all set.
She needs to learn how to put less information on an exam so people will take in more of her class. She also needs to not be so chipper so early in the morning it's annoying.
Shes a great teacher, All of these people badmouthing her are the same people who skip the classes and never attend. I guarantee if you actually attended lecture you would love it. She's smart, funny, and very helpful.
great teacher. if you go to classes and take good notes, there is no reason to ever read the book. take her study guides seriously cuz if you know that, then you are guaranteed an A. she knows a lot and her lectures are almost never boring.
Great professor! i look for classes she's teaching. Very helpful, but make sure you speak up and take notes in lecture. If you don't attend lecture she is less likely to help you when you're struggling. And a note to the athletes, because you're an athlete you are not guaranteed an A in Debs class
terrible. would not help me when i approached her on several occasions. you either get an A or fail, she doesnt care as long as the average comes out to be a C somehow. Very boring lectures, and hard quizzes. Anything possitive said about this professor is from people who probably received A's
She's an awesome Prof! All her lectures are exciting and she gives plenty of examples. Always willing to go over concepts. Give study guides for both the final and the midterm. She's the reason that I love Criminology so much. She's willing to help you out if you start to fall behind.
Her lectures are never boring and she is very clear. Don't hesitate to ask questions, and take very good notes. As long as you study you'll do fine in the class. The tests are multiple choice, but the quizes can be difficult if you don't review the material.
very fun prof. very interesting lectures. gives announced quizzes that are a bit intensive and tricky, but easy if you study- same with exams. very clear & very willingly to help. loved her class.
She was probably one of the rudest teachers I have ever had. She tries to trick you on tests rather than test you for knowledge learned in the class. She is extremely hardcore to the point were it is harmful to the department
Definitely did not like her in either class. Lectures were very hard to pay attention to because her teaching style is very eratic, tests were all scan-tron and extremely tricky, when most Soc. students would do much better at explaining what they learned in an exam with more essay questions.
great teacher. really made the information easy to comprehend. would definitely take her again!
Great Professor for crim students. Tests can be a bit tricky, but in general are fair.
She is very energetic. she is willing to modify the format of the midterms if it seems that the students will perform better with multiple choice rather than essay. I would take another class from her.
Very help and willing to change tests to format which students want. Very involved with the class. I've had three of her classes and would deffinently take another.
Ms. Wilson seemed to be in a terrible mood every time she came to class. She had a good lesson plan, but was always so angry that you couldn't ask questions. her tests were all multiple choice and worded to trick you.
She makes you work, but if you show up and study, you should't have much trouble with the class. I can't say she was my favorite Prof., but she's far from the worst. I think most of the people that struggle in her class are the people who don't show up on a regular basis. Her tests suck, too long, but all multiple choice. Show up and do the work =
Her tests were totally worded to trick you, even though she claimed they weren't. Her interpretations of the gay lifestyle were HIGHLY inaccurate. She is energetic, but can't be bothered to have a one on one conversation. Trust me, I tried tto talk to here twice, and she was obviously not there to help.
excellent! very into what she teaches. NEVER boring.
She was hilarious. Her antics were what kept me going to class every day. her tests were ridiculously awkward and hard. I went to every single lecture and every single recitation and i got a high C. you have to work your ass off for a good great, no matter how much you pay attention in class. but a very very interesting class.
very interesting, energetic, and knows her stuff. taking good notes is a MUST, but if you do, don't worry about reading the book. tests are pretty tricky for a soc. class
Go to class, study your notes, and it's an easy A.
Worst professor ever that I had at OSU!! Her test were very tricky and extremely hard. If you want to get a good grade, don't take her.
awsome instructor, she keeps you interested throughout the class. You have to pay attention and go to class but overall she explains the information well with the use of helpful analagies. Tests can be a little difficult but fair.
NO. Had her 3 years ago and NEVER will again. Like other people have said: Tricky test questions, NOT helpful, in a bad mood, erratic lecturing. I am a Sociology major and as difficult as it is (because she teaches so many effing classes) I avoid her at all costs and advise others who want a good grade to do the same.
My 2nd class with Debbie, she is without a doubt my favorite instructor at OSU. While her classes are by no means a breeze, you'll learn so much information and you'll be really glad you took her course. I hardly know a student that, after taking Debbie once, doesn't want to take her again.
Exams were tricky, writing assignments were involved. Do not expect an easy class from this prof. She is a nice person and is effective in her teaching methods, but may not be clear enough on expectations for exams and writing assignments.
She knows exactly what she is talking about! But she goes really fast and the exams are kind of difficult. If you pay attention and read you should do fine!
Debbie is one of the best professors that I have ever encountered! It is true that she has very high expectations for her students, and therefore her tests encompass a lot of material and are far from easy. HOWEVER... She is very accessable to her students, and is always more than willing to lend a hand to anyone who needs help. Attendance is key!!
The only downside to taking any of her courses is that you have to take a ridiculous ammount of notes. Good thing is they are extremely clear and 90% of the test questions come from them. Overall, one of the best professors in the Sociology department.
Debbie was fabulous. Her tests are difficult, but totally fair. You do not have to use the textbook if you take good notes in class. She is very willing to help, and her lectures are always a lot of fun because she is so excited about what she teaches (and the information is useful in every day life too). 3 tests, 2 short writing assignments.
What a class. She's a very tough professor but probably one of my best. I've never learned from a more enthusiastic individual. The writing assignments and writing portions are difficult, and although my grade wasn't good, I learned a lot in her class. Definitely recommended.
This was the third, count 'em, third time I've had Debbie for a class. She's without a doubt the best teacher at Ohio State. Make sure you go to lecture and take good notes, her tests are fairly difficult, but if you go to class and study hard (definitely not like the night before), you'll be fine. I learned SO much in these classes.
I really enjoyed class with Dr. Wilson. This was my second class with her and it definitely helped in knowing about how she tests, etc. The class itself was great, mostly because of Dr. Wilson's style of teaching. TAKE HER CLASSES!
Absolutely fantastic lecturer. Her class is easy if you go and take notes. If you study, the tests are also easy. One of the most interesting classes I've ever taken.
Great teacher! One of the best in the department. She really has a passion for criminology and it comes through in her lectures. It's not easy to lecture to 150 students, but she pulls it off perfectly. As long as you study for her tests and take great notes during lecture you'll get a good grade.
I've taken three classes with Dr. Wilson. she is the best. any course that she teaches will be both interesting and challenging. Attendance is not part of your grade, but she takes it into consideration if you are borderline between grades. very fair, and fun! never a boring lecture.
Second time I've taken her class and I love it! I'm by no means an A student, but still enjoy the class. She's very passionate about what she teaches and knows how to get students involved in the class. Expect lots of notes and be on your toes in this lecture! This is one class you can't sleep through and still pull a good grade.
Amazing lecturer! exams were tough, not enough time in recitation and recitation is mostly writing activities that are graded harshly. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE TEXTBOOK & RECITATION READER and go to class!!
very educated and knows what she's talking about. teaches the information clearly, and enthusiastically. i loved her and her class because you can apply all of the information to every day life. quizzes and tests need to be studied for. test can sometimes be tricky so its important to go to class everyday. i did and got a b w/o TOO much studying
Solid teacher. She is full of energy and always makes things pretty eaasy to understand. There is a decent amount of reading and note-taking required. The tests are manageable, but you do have to study to do well.
Her exams our insanely hard
Hardest finals and midterms ever, you literally have to know exactly what she is talking about. She taught good but for some reason the tests were impossible to perfect. The recitation teachers graded extremely hard too....make sure you read everything....literally
goog teacher overall but the exams were impossible and really hard, the way she words the test is just crazy, she uses examples to imply the concepts. the TA was harash grader, i hate those in writing assignments, good luck with this class..
Despite the difficult grade I received, I would reccomend any of Dr. Wilson's classes, primarily because she's an entertaining lecturer and extremely animated during class-it was actually fun to go to class. On the bad side, tests are really really tough and the TA graded disgustingly harsh. I'd take her class again but know that it's a risk
Great Professor and has great lectures, her material comes across easy BUT her tests are extremely hard and difficult.
I really enjoyed this class but I did not like studying for hours and still get a C+ in the class. I knew everything on the midterm and still couldn't get an A. This class was very interesting, maybe should have taken pass/fail or something. Read the text and go to lecture, attendance may help you in the end!
very interesting in lecture. class seems easy but her exams are REDICULOUS. this class is a level 100 class and should not be this difficult. i would not recommend this teacher although i enjoyed going to class.
She is hilarious... the class is easy, if you attened lecture and read the chapters. I got an A and only studied the night before for exams.. Recitation sucks and they grade those assignments pretty hard but other than that it was an interesting class!
Great lecturer and the class was awesome. Helpful and enthusiastic about teaching. I would also recommend that you go on the trips to the prison and the jail because it is so much more interesting than seeing it on MSNBC.
She had good examples, but the class was still difficult. Try not to look at her if you don't want her to use you as an example. Don't sit near the aisles.
Prof. Wilson's an engaging instructor who really knows what she's talking about and can keep you awake and listening in class. But her exams are absolutely brutal. If you do not have every subpoint of the lecture down pat, every seemingly offhand remark committed to memory, you will NOT get an A. So if you're watching your GPA, beware.
I graduated from Ohio State over 4 years ago and the only professor I remember is Professor Wilson. She is a great teacher and I received A's in the 3 classes I took with her. I would recommend any of the courses she is teaching.
Awesome class! really easy midterms. made class interesting for every lecture. you MUST read the recitation readings to do well on the pair projects.
She is one of the best profs I've ever had! Keeps things intersting and is really funny. Read the book for midterms. Exams aren't too hard, just have to memorize stuff. Take good notes in lecture and read the book and you will get an A. Take this class!!
Great professor. I actually really disliked sociology before taking this class. She had a way of lecturing to over a 100 students and still be very personal. She's never boring and pretty funny too. I would recomend this professor to anybody who is looking for a fun and interesting class. Tests we not extremely hard, but study is required
She keeps it very interesting and is willing to help. There's one paper with a topic of your choice. Everything she talks about in class is on the test so you need to go. You should also read the book to get you more familiar with the information. NOT FOR SLACKERS...
Kept it real, easy to understand examples.
This class was very fun to attend, but in all honesty the tests were IMPOSSIBLE. I took it over a year ago so it may be different now, but it's the lowest grade I've received so far at OSU. If I could go back I'd take a different professor or a different GEC. Hardest GEC I've had so far!
i would have to agree the person below, her tests were impossible. the wording of the test are tricky. i never took a hard GCE like this one before. yea she is interesting and keeps the lectures interesting but a intro class should not be this complicating.
One of those profs that makes things hard just for the sake of making them hard. Rushes through more material in class then she is required to cover, making it very difficult to keep up. Lowest grade I have received since attending OSU. I'm generally a straight A student and I received a C in this class. Extremely disappointed with this teacher!
Take this class if you have a ton of time to waste on your GEC. Way too hard for a general requirement class. Don't know who she thinks she is making her exams so hard! The wording of her exams is simply ludicrous, not to mention the grading criteria for the recitation is so hard you would have to memorize the articles to get a perfect score. BOO!!
Earth to Deb this is a 100 level class! Switch professors while you still can cause this **** sucks!!! Her class seems so fun at first and then her exams are so hard its unbelievable. Ruined my gpa and more often then not I get A or B's!
absolute worst class ever. do not take sociology with wilson. you will not get a good grade. impossible tests and boring lectures. you have to listen to everything she says because she doesnt write notes, only an outline. its nearly impossible. not even worth it. switch teachers!
I have taken about every class Debbie has taught at OSU and she is definitely one of my favourite teachers I have ever had in my life. She is really into teaching and the info. Her classes are right up anyone's alley, deviance, crim, prison, police.. Wonderful. I recommend her to everyone. One of the best teachers you could possibly have class with
Overall she was really good. I understand some students' frustration- the class was a tougher than a typical 100 level. However, the material was clear, the lectures were funny, and heaven forbid you actually have to apply yourself to get a good grade. I'd recommend her just for the sake of taking an interesting course with a great teacher.
This class is ridiculous. Unless you have hours upon hours to devote to it, I would recommend another course. She is however, somewhat interesting and sometimes funny.
She is very into the subjects and makes the class very very interesting!
She was not a very helpful teacher and when I needed helo she was not willing to help
I thought Dr. Wilson's lectures were fairly interesting and comical at times. She really seemed to have a passion for Sociology. Notes provided in lecture can be a bit confusing at times, but other than that the class was great. Good professor.
I took Wilson's Sociology 100 Class. She makes early morning class extremely entertaining. While attendence is not required you should definitely go, otherwise it will be hard to follow. Tests can be tough but if you go every day and put in a little effort you can probably get atleast a B! Her T.A. staff is awesome; they are very funny and helpful!
Very difficult teacher. Extremely interesting lectures. You can tell she really loves what she is teaching. Exams were very difficult and her "study guide" was pretty much useless. A little too difficult for a 100 class.
You kidding me? I have never been so nervous going into a class after reading these comments. I got a 98 on the first midterm. If you have any common sense there's no reason you shouldn't get at least a B+ if not higher.
Very interested in her teachings, the class is not easy but if you learn the material (like you should do in college) then you will do great. The people who post that she's too hard probably do not pay any attention in class!!! Take it if you really want to learn!
Class is very interesting. If you go to class and take notes, you will do well! She is extremely knowledgeable about the criminal justice system and I thoroughly enjoyed her class!
Class was pretty difficult, lots of reading and she teaches really fast, but she is very nice and pretty entertaining
This is my second class with Dr. Wilson and just like my first class I absolutely loved her with this class. She keeps you awake and entertained with her energy and jokes. She provides the material in an efficient manner, quizzes and tests are a breeze as long as you put some effort into them. You should walk out with an A with some effort.
I absolutely loved having this professor, I would highly recommend taking a class from her no matter the topic.
Dr. Wilson is a great professor, really passionate about the material, which can be a bit boring at times. Willing to go back/explain things that aren't clear. Quizzes/Exams are challenging but fair. If you go to class, pay attention, take notes and study you will do well.
This woman is spectacular. I've taken two classes taught by her and would highly recommend any soc class she teaches.
She is really a great professor. I learned a lot, but I would not recommend taking her if your gpa can not afford to take a hit. Again Dr. Wilson is one of the best at teaching but the test/quizzes are really hard.
She's not a difficult teacher. She tells you what to study and what to read for her quizzes. As long as you read exactly what she tells you to, there is no way you will not do well. She's not a hard professor, just expects her students to do the readings.
too hard very picky on test essays
I took as many classes with Dr. Deborah Wilson as I could. She is a fantastic, enthusiastic teacher and I highly recommend her to anyone interested. You must take notes in class to do well. Her notes are thorough. Her teaching style is wonderful. My favourite teacher of all time. I cannot say enough good things and how much I enjoyed class.
I would have hated to have her for a 1000-level course, but Debbie is fantastic. I'm taking an unnecessary class next semester just because she's teaching it. Take notes in class. You can get away with not reading the book expect a few sections she'll specify are on the quizzes/tests. Exams are straightforward. lecture style is engaging.
Dr. Wilson is honestly one of the best professors at this university. Every student is incredibly lucky to have her. Her tests/quizzes are difficult but I promise if you study enough you'll do very well. I highly recommend her to everyone in the sociology department.
Great teacher, really engages the class. Makes the content clear and easy to understand. Must attend class and take thorough notes. Tests and quizzes are difficult but if you pay attention and take good notes you can do fine. Very funny at times, makes class really interesting. Hardest class this semester but definitely my favorite. Great class.
Where to start. Ms. Wilson has useless notes. She has multiple bulleted points that all have question marks instead of what you need to know. Filling them in is a task in itself with her random tangents she goes on and makes it garbeled information. Her "study guides" might as well not even be there. I fail to see how this professor is even here.
Her exams were very hard. I loved the lecture and the energy she brought every time she taught I LOVED THAT SO MUCH!!! I never went to sleep in her class. But, I was having some issues with my other classes and had to basically ignore this class because I was already failing in the exam areas. But overall , I will take another class with her again.
Have to work for your grade, however she is my all-time favorite professor. You must attend class and take good notes. She is extremely funny and energetic. She tells you exactly what is on the tests/quizzes and very willing to help her students. She is wonderful. Highly recommended if you're willing to put forth the effort.
Dr Wilson has been a great help throughout the entire semester. I loved this class so much, that I plan to take my remaining Criminology minor course with her if possible. Her quizzes/tests were a little tricky but if you took good notes and studied well they could be cake. I would recommend her to anyone, by far one of OSU's best professors
I loved her! I'm taking all her classes that I can. She's so energetic and passionate about her subject. She also tries to get to know her students as best she can in a bigger lecture. Tests are hard but if you do the study guide she gives, study, and go to class a B is fairly easy to obtain. Highly recommend!
She really knows how to get you engaged in the material, even though really dry material like court cases. Do the study guides and you'll do fine on the exams, but be careful about the quizzes. They're harder, in my opinion.
It is a lot of content. You really have to attend most (every) lecture to be successful. Didn't need to read the book/articles except for specific sections for exams and quizzes. Overall, she is a really good professor.
She's very passionate and made ever bland court cases fun, the tests aren't too hard but you have to pay attention. The quizzes are very tough though! Pay attention in class because her notes aren't going to hand feed you.
Best professor at OSU so far. She was very enthusiastic about the class, which makes it easy to learn the material. She tells you exactly what to expect in the class and on exams. Would recommend to anyone!
Best teacher I have ever had EVER. Only way to get a good grade is to go to EVERY lecture and definitely read the book. People got by without it, but if you want an A, read. She definitely pulls information from the text as well as the assigned readings posted on carmen.
Good luck filling in your notes accurately. She jumps around without telling you where she is talking. The quizzes are harder then the exams and this is the class I am struggling most with and its only a 2000 level.
Debbie Wilson is a phenomenal teacher. Enthusiastic during lectures to the point where she's literally runningjumping around. Take this class if interested in law enforcement. HOWEVER, this is not an easy A class. You must attend lecture to pass, take notes, and complete the readings. Lecture info. is easy to absorb so I think it's an easy class.
Best teacher at OSU. If you get the chance to have her in class, do it.
Debbie is awesome! Tough class but it becomes easier if your into it. Good examples and sailor's mouth lol. Easy to connect with and responses to emails within 24 hours. Questions are answered thoroughly. quizzes are harder than the exam because she wants to make sure you know the material since the exams are mc. Tells you exactly whats on the quiz
Absolutely love her enthusiasm during lecture. It really makes being there fun. I know if I had any questions she would answer them in a heartbeat. Going to class is crucial as well as READING THE CASES. I had a 96 on my first exam and an 80 on my second because I didn't prepare well enough. It's all in your control how well you perform!
This class was very tough. If you are not studious, do NOT take her classes. She is very energetic and willing to elaborate on what she is saying, and it can be very interesting. If you do not attend class, you will be lost. I went to every class, took notes, and still barely passed. Get ready for a challenge if you decide to take it.
Best teacher I've had at OSU. Go to ALL of the lectures, they're very interesting and you need good notes to do well on the quizzes because they're written responses. Exams are easier. Can get an A if you put the time in. Debbie's amazing3
Extremely difficult person to deal with. She is just angry that she could never make it herself and had to become a teacher, unfortunate she has to take it out on students. Absolutely reprehensible that a teacher would treat students as such second rate people. I got an A in the class but would advise to stay away!
She is by far the best teacher I have ever had. If you are thinking about Law School or Law enforcement I would definitely take this class. However, you must be willing to work. Quizzes are short answer so you must take a lot of notes during lecture in order to be prepared. She is a great lecturer and will keep your interest for the entire class.
Debbie is truly amazing. Although she seems erratic at first, her in-your-face teaching style helps drive in important information. Since this is a law class, there is a lot of reading material, which she does expect you to read and understand, however, she is an amazing women who obviously loves her career. By far my favorite professor at tOSU.
BEST professor I have ever had. Makes class fun and fly by. Learn a lot of cool stuff. 3 tests and 4 quizzes w the lowest one dropped. As long as you take good notes and read, you'll do fine. Would recommend her any day!
Unless you work really hard in school, DEFINITELY do not take an upper level course with her & waste her time. This class required laborious note-taking on my laptop (legit verbatim) and knowing chapters/readings well for exams and quizzes. You will not even get so much as a B on her test without. DON'T SKIP. But I absolutely LOVED her! Best prof.
Deb is super passionate about CJ and her lectures are pages of note taking but it really is interesting material. Don't take for an easy A because you need to know and understand the material from going to class and taking notes. Just 3 exams and 4 quizzes, lowest quiz dropped, so not a lot of room for fixing bad grades.
She's not a bad prof. She's passionate about CJ and makes it interesting but her class is really hard. She doesn't post power points online so you better show up and take nots like your life depends on it. Her quizzes and exams are straightforward but you have to study. She also won't give you the information you missed, so make friends.
Debbie definitely makes you work to get a good grade, but lectures are incredibly interesting and she makes you want to go to class. 3 tests and 4 quizzes, but she drops a quiz grade. Seriously loved her lectures and was kinda sad when I slept through my alarm. Take the class, show up, and study and you'll be good.
Professor Wilson was awesome! I had her for two classes this semester (2209 and 3410) and loved every minute of it! Even if the material wasn't the most exciting, she managed to keep students engaged and kept class interesting. She was extremely willing to help outside of class and tests/quizzes were very straight forward. Highly recommend her!
Dr. Wilson was a wonderful professor! You have to go to class or else you will not pass. I got a solid A by studying extremely hard all the time. It was not an easy class unless you work for it. She is always there to help. I am very glad I had her this semester.
Debbie is currently the hardest professor I've had to date, but she is also the best. If you make sure to read the book and take notes before class, you are pretty much set. Just make sure to not be afraid to ask questions and discuss things in class with her. Ask questions about what you missed on the quizzes and midterms.
Dr. Wilson was one of the best professors I have ever had! I loved her so much in the intro to criminal justice course that I took her policing class! She tells you what she expects day one and clearly loves the material. Be prepared to attend all classes and to take notes. If you pay attention in class you'll get a good grade!
Definitely the hardest class I have taken at OSU. Debbie is very passionate about teaching & knows the content thoroughly. Class grade relies on quiz and exams grade, which are not easy. Debbie does not clarify the main points well, which caused me to study notes that weren't 100% correct. I do not recommend taking this class unless you have to
She's a fantastic professor. There are 3 tests, final is test three. 4 quizzes and the lowest gets dropped. You HAVE to go to class and HAVE to read and study your ass off or you will NOT pass. She's tough but it's a fantastic class. She really cared about her students. I would totally take her again.
The one struggle I had in this class is that I would sit in lecture and find myself thinking "that's not right" or "that isn't necessarily true" criminal justice is pretty complex and this is an intro class but it seems wrong to give students a misinformed base to build upon. Also she was a little over the top in lecture.
I do not recommend taking her class. She makes this way too hard for an introduction class. She treats it as a 5000 level course. Very few things you are graded on and doesn't post grades. Doesn't post notes online or in class so you must go to class and listen to every single word she says or you will become so lost on the exams.
Do. Not. Take. This class. Maybe if youre one of those lucky college students whose parents are all your only job is school and you dont have ANYTHING ELSE to focus on besides this class, you could pass. But if youre one of many who has other classes, extracurriculars, and a JOB, You will SRUGGLE. Save yourself the misery, folks.
Deb is by far one of the best professors I have had. Yes, the class itself if very hard because it is just a lot of material, the class itself i would not take again but her a professor i forsure would. She cares, and wants you to do well. Tells you exactly what to expect day one and isn't lying. Amazing professor, you'd be lucky to have her.
Deb cares about the success of her students and is very knowledgeable. Her lectures are interesting and intellectually stimulating. She will make you work for your grade, but if you are interested in the subject and take good notes in lecture, you will do great.
Professor Wilson truly cares about her students, but is an extremely hard grader. If you miss class, it's game over because she does not have detailed slides and posts nothing on Carmen. She is extremely smart and wants you to be aware of your rights. All around, she's a great person, but definitely makes you work hard for your grade.
Deb is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. The class is difficult for sure, and you absolutely have to go to class to do well. Even getting notes from a friend will probably not be enough. BUT she is the most engaging and over the top professor and you will never ever be bored in lecture.
She is the best professor I've ever had, but this class is hard. You must read and take good notes and study. Lectures are anything but boring but are not posted online and neither are grades. Only graded on 4 quizzes & 3 exams, lowest quiz is dropped so you really have to know the material. She is very straight forward with what she wants from you
Great professor, difficult class but worth it
Deb is my favorite lecturer I've ever had. She lets you know what is expected of you and actually knows what she is talking about. If you follow along and TAKE NOTES, you will do well. Every quiz and test has extra credit and she covers almost everything in class. Attendance isn't mandatory but you get A TON of extra credit for coming every day.
Only graded by 3 quizzes and 3 exams which are really hard. There are no slides or whatever for you to review, so your handwritten notes from lectures are everything. If you miss a word from her mouth, you would not even know that you missed it in your notes until on quizzes and exams. If you do badly on one exam, you can never earn it back.
Deb was absolutely my favorite professor at OSU. She is super passionate about what she teaches and it makes it that much easier to stay engaged. She definitely talks quickly, and you need to take a lot of notes on lectures since they're not posted, but it's all interesting and clearly laid out what you need to know. Super supportive and engaging!
Dr Wilson is a fantastic lady who is super passionate about criminal justice. She definitely makes you work for your grade, but as long as you study you'll do fine.
Deb was really knowledgeable and a great professor. Her exams were tough, but if you really pay attention and USE THE STUDY GUIDE, youll be fine. The class seems daunting at first, but once you get the hang of how to study, youll be fine.
The perfect professor. There are opportunities for extra credit on everything (quizzes, homework and exams) so I ended up with over 100% in the class. There are no surprises on the exams because every Friday she gives a study guide on what we went over that week. There is nothing on the exam that isn't on the study guide. Straightforward & fun too!
By far one of the best professors I have had. She takes time to know her students by name and is willing to assist them in any way she can. Also makes her class entertaining and has a good sense of humor.
Though I think Deborah is a good professor, I think she makes the class way too difficult for an intro class. Theres only 3 hws 3 tests and 3 quizzes that count for your grade and nothing else. If you bomb one test theres practically nothing else to get your grade back up. tests are based on lectures and they arent posted. I barely passed
Grades so hard it doesnt even matter if you know the material
Dr. Wilson is by far the best professor I've had at OSU. Very knowledgable of the topic and every lecture is well prepared. She also spends time getting to know each of her students. Definitely a tough course and you really have to put in the efforts outside of class, but A is possible.
Prides herself on how nit-picky she scores assignments and on how many students fail her course. She doesn’t upload lecture slides nor offer zoom if ill. She is very performative during her ego-filled lectures. On the first day of class, make sure you like your seat because she makes those seats the assigned seats for the rest of the semester.
I love her and her class so much. It's easy to get bored with some of these topics, but she really cares about what she's talking about and makes lectures interesting. It is a tough class, but if you enjoy the content and know what you're talking about then the quizzes are not bad and the homeworks are even easier.
Hands down the best prof. Cares that her students understand the material, swears like a sailor, and puts 110% into every class. Midway through a class Melissa Shivers came in and congratulated her with a $5000 bonus and an induction to some prestigious teaching society, she's the real deal. Come to every lecture or fail, don't slack
Half of these reviews sound like they were written by the professor and do not match the reality of her teaching style/class experience. She also gets unfavorable reviews taken down so beware.
The class is lecture heavy, however I found myself always very engaged. She's a great lecturer. I emailed her a question once and she emailed me back super quick with so much information and then came up to me in class the next day to make sure I fully understood. She cares a lot about what she is teaching and it shows! Loved this class.
She is very knowledgeable on the topic and does a great job of explaining concepts. However, every class is a lecture and you cannot afford to miss one because she does not post them. I liked the class overall and would take it again, but thought it was a little difficult for an intro class.
Professor Wilson is knowledgeable on what she is teaching. The lectures will keep you interested and you will be able to tell that she knows what she is talking about. The issue that many people did have is that the course was too difficult for a 2000 level course. There was just a few assignments to be graded on and expected to know so much.
Professor Wilson was a great teacher. She is highly knowledgeable and enthusiastic during her lectures and seems to be very down to earth. However, if you are taking this class, please do not discount the homework assignment and quizzes. She is a tough grader, and lecture is not mandatory, it is highly recommended! Do the assigned readings!
By far the worst professor for an intro class. Exams and quizzes don't match the presentations and lectures. Avoid her at all cost.
The fact that this is an "intro" class is incredibly misleading. This was by far the most difficult class I've taken to date. Her lecture slides are basically useless, so you have to pay attention to every single word she says or you might miss something. Grades EXTREMELY hard on homework assignments and quizzes. Honestly, steer clear at all costs.
Do not be fooled by the other reviews. Deb is an incredible professor and gets a bad rap from kids who are not willing to put in the work to do well in her class. Go to class, take good notes, don't wait until the last minute to study or do the homework and you will do fine. She truly is one of the best professors in the sociology department.
I absolutely loved Dr. Wilson. Her lectures were interesting and engaging, but the class is graded by few things. However, if you go to class, take good notes, and put in effort on the homeworks/tests/quizzes you will do good. She cares about her students and is always willing to answer any questions I have. She is one of the best teachers/profs.
Dr. Wilson is not the professor you want to take for an easy A, but if you genuinely want to learn, she is perfect. Her lectures were never boring. This class is a lot of work and I would not recommend going in expecting an A because you'll likely be disappointed, but the amount I learned from this class made it so worth it!
I loved Deb so much. This class was not easy, but it was so interesting. You will have to put in a lot of work, but because of Deb I fell in love with the content and wanted to do the work. I actually changed my major only a few weeks after taking this course, it's amazing. Deb is probably my favorite professor I have ever had.
I love Prof. Wilson, and she is my favorite professor at osu. She is an engaging lecturer and very knowledgeable. Those who say that the class is too difficult are definitely first semester freshman who don't how college works yet or people who want gimme A's. The class takes a little (emphasis on little) effort but is so worth it.
I thought this class was really interesting, and Deb did a great job making it fun and engaging. I won't lie, this is one of the hardest classes I've taken at OSU, and Deb is a really strict grader. You have three assignments, quizzes, and tests for the entire semester so you basically have to do well on all of them if you want a good grade.
Deborah was such an amazing professor. Even though I really struggled and failed every exam. I blame myself because I did not figure out how to study until too late. The lectures are so interesting and I was always engaged in the content. It is a pretty difficult class, but I have nothing but respect for her way of teaching.
Deb is a great professor, she did a nice job keeping the lectures interesting. I took this class as a first-semester freshman which I don't recommend. She's a tough grader, and the exams and homework require a lot of critical thinking. Pay attention in class, take good notes, study at least a week in advance for exams, and ask questions.
Dr. Wilson was a great professor. I have no complaints. She is an amazing lecturer and makes the class very interesting. Make sure to put in effort in studying and note-taking, and you are guaranteed a passing grade. Take this class!
Attendance is not mandatory but highly recommended as it is a lecture heavy class. If you miss class you will miss out on major information, lectures are not ever posted. The class had a lot of dense information, but was super useful and I learned a lot.
This class was very difficult and required a lot of studying. All of her lectures were very engaging and fun to listen to. She gets the class very involved in her lectures. Very few assignments that contribute to your grade- easy to fail class.
Although this was one of the more difficult courses I have ever taken based (if you don't go to lecture, you absolutely won't do great, have to be able to type basically every word she says & exams were tough) Deb has been one of my favorite professors I have every had. She makes lectures interesting and doesn't sugar coat anything.
Very good class, I learned a lot about the history and backbone of Criminal Justice. This course requires HEAVY critical thinking skills if you're hoping to get an A. I got a B, but I still came out of the class understanding the material, but it was about applying it critically that got me. Wonderful professor and I definitely recommend her.
Deb is a challenging but engaging professor. The class requires critical thinking and attending every lecture. With effort and using resources like Unstuck AI, you can excel. Though difficult, it's a rewarding course that deepens your understanding of the subject matter.
Very passionat
I loveeeeed Professor Wilson. The course is composed of 3 units which are composed of a homework assignment, a quiz, and a test each. If you show up to class and take notes on what she says, not what's on the board, you'll be fine. She also posts study guides at the end of each week; I recommend you start studying each one as they are posted.
Most reviews were written by the professor themself hence the repetitive sentiment. Unfavorable reviews are removed. Seats are assigned on the first day because papers are passed out in a specific order so that certain seats can receive certain test/assignment materials. Graded materials aren't to be kept so that this practice is harder to expose.
Professor Wilson was super engaging in her lectures and I learned a lot. The HW and quizzes are definitely difficult so be sure to study lots and take good notes; make sure to always read rubrics for assignments
This has been my favorite class so far at OSU. Professor Wilson was amazing at teaching and getting you to both understand and retain the information. You cannot miss a lecture or else you will be behind, but you won't want to miss them because they are so engaging and interesting. Be ready to take lots of notes and to learn a lot.
She was really great, super engaging lectures. Class was difficult, lots of content to cover. Few assignments for a grade. Very clear grading, gave really good feedback.
Prof speaks to class as if every student is young & knows nothing about life. While that may be true for some, if you come into this class with both professional & personal CJ experience like I did, you'll soon see that the teachings are a sham. Any CJ class that dances around topics of race & slavery as it relates to the CJ system is child's play.
This woman hated me so she gave me a terrible grade that clearly didn't reflect the effort I put into her class. I'm now in law school and have received BETTER grades than those that she gave me in undergrad. This woman doesn't care about your wellbeing, or how much time you put into her class. I've come back to post this bc I'm STILL bitter.
Was nervous coming into this class but Prof Wilson is truly passionate about what she teaches. As long as you go to class, listen, take good notes, and study, you will be fine! Very interesting and relevant material that anyone could benefit from learning!
