She seems nice right away, but don't let her fool you. She will not help you at all no matter what you do, she is very vague about what her assignments are, her expectations for students are the same expectations that a prof. would have for a 300 level course. Horrible teacher, horrible class.

Picks certain people to dislike. No joke-unfair to people...she will make you feel dumb! Only focuses on Indians-fine at first, but got old after a while. Obviously you have to take the class, but don't take it with her, unless it's your only class because she assigns homework WAY too much!

She was a lazy and inconsistent grader who did indeed chose favorites. She seemed to feel that she was the only person with answers and carried herself in a fog of condescension and smugness. Hers was my second native american lit class, and the material was quality but her direction was not.

She is the worst teacher I have ever had. Her expectations for papers are too unclear. This leads to poor grades because you didn't know what to write about. Didn't help much, just told me my papers weren't good. Too much hw, too much Native American jabber. Avoid at all costs.

Don't take this class unless you absolutely need to!

Dr. Barker is very contradicting. She will say you are awesome and she likes your writing and then you get a D+ (which she likes to give out) on your papers! It's ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! She is very unclear with assignments and doesn't make sense when saying things in class! DON'T TAKE THIS PROF!

She ruined my semester. She acts like she cares about you as an individual, but really takes no interest in you when you need help. She doesn't hand back anything on time, very unclear as to her guidlines, has favorites and singles you out for no reason. She made my semester hell!Thanks for nothing.

Without a doubt the worst professor I've ever had, and this is my last semester in five years. The only way to do well in class is to tell her what she wants to hear instead of coming up with new ideas and solid papers. She plays favorites and I can't believe she is allowed to teach at any university. She ruined my last semester ever of college.

Prof. Barker is a horrible teacher, in my opinion. I am an English major and took this class as a "general." She made me question whether or not I really wanted to be a teacher someday. I made appointments to talk to her and she no-showed on them. Any answer you give isn't detailed enough and therefore it is wrong. I hate her.

She missed at least one class a week, was generally unavailable. She is by far the worst teacher I ever had throughout my college career.

Horrible teacher, she always is switching due dates unexpectedly and she would send homework to you the same day that it is due. She had her favorites and when you try to go to her for help she just sits there and looks at you like you are stupid. She doesn'tquality of your work. Failed me for missing 1 1/2weeks when I was really sick,very unfair!!

It is Wednesday. I just got assigned a 4 page paper due Friday. The topic of the paper is vague as are all her other assignments. Debra Barker is the worst professor I have ever had.

She contradicts everythign she saysI met with her about one of my papersshe told me it was great I just to add few more details, after turning it u get it back a month later(takes her forever to grade)I got a D when I met with her to talk about it she told me I must have misunderstood she changes the assignments in her head!

she tells you your papers are great & when she hands them back (after 4 weeks) you would have between a B- or C. She says you don't do them right. I handed in the last paper before our final she gave me a B. Took the final and got my grade back for the sem. I got a D+. I tried talking to her but she didn't email me back. She said it was my fault!

SHE IS HORRIBLE, Is NOT helpful and I agree with all of the other comments, I am now a senior and took her as a freshman and it was the worst class I have had throughout my college career.

The material she covers in ENGL 210 is irrelevant to the study of texts. It feels more like a Native American History course. Her assignments are ambiguous, and her lectures leave most people in my class, myself included, feeling frustrated. You were warned.

Debra is an impossible teacher to read, and is horrible at teaching a class. No one in the class respected her, since the class was less and less about English, and more and more about Native Americans. It was pathetic.

AVOID THIS TEACHER AT ALL COSTS!! She doesn't know how to teach, is NOT helpful at all, is VERY fake, and teaches next to nothing about English. The whole class was about Native Americans. I HATED going to class, there was LOTS of writing, and she is very boring. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH DEBRA BARKER!!

You'll hear more about Indians than english. she doesn't talk to her TA's so they can't help you and she favors the girls.

Once you dig yourself a hole there is no getting out. She failed me. I asked at midterm if there was hope for me to pass and she said yes, however i was still failed. Do not take this class with her. Take Alea

Dr. Barker is not organized and very confusing as a professor. She pretends to give help and says that your writing is improving, but still gives low grades on papers. Also does not know how to teach a class. Definitely one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. I suggest taking a different english teacher.

This woman is insane. She expects you to know everything including writing perfect papers so you will never get an A. Be prepared to learn about Native Americans. She doesn't give you your midterm grade until after the withdrawl date. This may as well be a d3 course. My advice advice avoid this woman at all costs.

She is ridiculous. You ask her a specific question and she answers your question with another question or just says "thats a good question". Don't take her all you do is write papers and get horrible grades on them because she doesn't teach you how to improve your writing skills.

Barker is an awful teacher only take this class if you like not knowing the expectations of your work or if you like not knowing when things are due, she is very biased and doesnt care at all about her students all she cares about are the indians and the rugs she wears to class. She is impossible to please her save your GPA and take someone else!!

She is the worst professor of all time. Her workload is ridiculous and her grading is even worse. I'm very good at English and I dedicated all my time into this class only to stare at a C+. she is BY FAR the crappiest professor (if you even want to call her that) i have had here at eau claire. i took her for ais 142 and she is the most unfair person Ive ever met) She does not know how to explain things and I'm pretty sure she lost all common sense that she might once have had. I would STRONGLY DISCOURAGE ANYONE from taking her class

Dr. Barker is a nice women, but in my opinion, a bad professor. I had her for an entry level course and expected a much easier class. I do not feel like I learned about English. I worked hard and got a B. Take this class if you want to bond with a class because of how horrible your proff. is.

Very unclear about assignments. Eventhough she makes herself available to help you, she doesn't offer any useful advice, she just criticizes. Overall a nice person but a poor professor.

Worst professor in the school, she shouldn't be teaching. She took what was said out of context and often demeaned students.

I'm an English major and I dreaded going to class every day. I skipped on more than one occasion to actually get something done on my papers. She incorporates Native Americans into everything she talks about and never, ever responds to your ems. She'll single out those she thinks is doing well, completely belittling everyone else's efforts. :(

She should not be a teacher - she is a sociopath. She will tell you you're doing fine in the class, but if she doesn't like you she will disregard all of your scores and slap a big F on your grade report. She is not a nice person, and I feel that I know her well enough to judge her integrity as a human being. Avoid this monster at all costs.

If you want to spend three weeks learning about commas, this class is for you. The workload for this class is cruel and unusual. She is inhumane. Huge waste of time and destroys your gpa. She is known as Dr. Death.AVOID!

Books read for this class were very enjoyable, but Barker is an unorganized mess. Final paper assignment received a week before class ended, second essay assigned very last day of class. Presentation rubric for the final, three hours before the actual final. Doesn't answer questions, no help with finding good research. Unnecessary grammar review.

Do not take this professor if you don't need the class! She is extremely unorganized and unprepared, forgets about meetings she has scheduled with students, and won't give you a good grade no matter how hard you try. I've had this professor for more than one class, and I DO NOT recommend her.

I had Dr. Barker for AIS-102. You can expect to write a paper per week along with readings and quizzes. Some of the papers were a minimum of 6 pages!! She expects too much for a 100 level course, yet doesn't explain the her multiple assignments very well. Do not recommend!!! to say the least

She cannot possible teach this course accurately; a midst her terrible organization and class communication. I would strongly recommend another professsor.

AVOID AVOID AVOID I cannot believe she is the head of the AIS department. There are multiple other AIS professors that are, head and shoulders, better than Dr. Barker. If you want to be viewed as an equal DO NOT take Barker. If you want to be looked down on, well she's good at that.

300 lvl expectations for a 100 lvl class. Overall unhappy and unpleasant woman to be around. example: She'll grade you paper strictly on grammar if you make good points. If you use perfect grammar she'll nit pick the points of your essay. There's no pleasing her if your on the short list...

This was hands down the worst English class I've taken. Do not take this professor! She gives many useless papers and lectures to hear herself talk. I learned absolutely nothing from this class and will never take a class with her again. Also the take home final was essentially another 8 page paper. You won't learn anything with her. Good luck.

Honestly, I would never take this professor again. Horrible communication (I would email simple questions and either receive no reply or she would write 'ask me this after class'). She gave little feedback but graded harshly. Office hours were not posted. She treated this class more like a history course and left little room for error. Never Again

Very tough grader. Has no regard for a student's own personal opinion. If you want an A, be prepared to agree with everything she says and put aside your own personal beliefs or even obvious facts. She is very fond of picking favorites. Most English professors encourage critical thinking and personal opinions. She is not one to do so.

I thought professor Barker was a nice lady, but didn't really learn anything in her class. I had a hard time respecting her because her her lectures were extremely pointless and boring. I am still confused on what I was supposed to have learn in her Short Story English class.

Easily the worst professor I've had. Won't like you if you don't agree with her opinion. I'm extremely good at English and i'm failing her class. Reading quizzes every class on multiple stories.. Extremely tough grader. Wouldn't even recommend her to teach a class of dogs.

Would not recommend this class, quizzes pretty much everyday on random material, does not up load grades tell the end of the semester, dosent show up to office hours, and guidelines for assignments were never clear. I love English and the content of the subject but Dr. Barker made it easy to hate this class. FIND A DIFFERENT PROF OR CLASS!!!!!!

Very unclear instructions and if you ask for clarification she will simply read you her instructions, will not expand on what the instructions mean. Does not work with you. Very close-minded and one sided view points. If you dont need to take a class with her, take literally any other class.

I would not recommend taking this class. I am an English minor and have always done good in this subject, but sadly the professor ruined this course for me. The class was beyond disorganized, grades are still not fully posted for me in canvas and it has been winter break since December... half of my class dropped within the first two weeks

Dr. Moody is such an awesome professor, it's a shame Dr. Barker is even involved in Eau Claire's AIS program. She helped initiate the program, but really stands in the way of it's growth.

She is an incredibly difficult professor to work with. Should have gotten a B+ but she dropped so much of my grade for "demeanor" and would not accept excused absences by the university. She shows blatant favoritism and her lectures are dull.

Frustrating class. Needed a group chat with several students to help each other out. In essay feedback, seemed to want her students to have a specific point of view on the reading materials. Inconsistent in updates, leaving us waiting for several days on a few occasions. Didn't even put in a grade for some assignments by the end of the course.

Dr. Barker has ridiculously high expectations for students and does not make things clear. I was docked points for "not knowing the book" after reading it thoroughly and working hard on my discussion posts. When she commented on a post she was rude and made students feel stupid. Horrible teacher with terrible communication.

Professor Barker is a very tough grader but gives little to no criteria for assignments (essays tend to be unclear for whats expected). She is nice, but does not give you a break for her class. Gives a lot of quizzes but you are never informed of what they will exactly be on and when they are. There is one chance for extra credit at the end.

Dr. Barker is a really nice lady. Unfortunately the way she teaches and grades doesnt match her personality. She gave very vague assignments that required writing long papers/essay questions with unclear prompts. She also didnt give clarification when you asked and still graded hard when students didnt understand. Do not take this class!

They teach primarily white-hatred in her AIS classes. Its kinda messed up actually,m. Really snobby, seems like shes till a spoiled 16 year old. Just dont bother. Shes a b1tc5

Dr. Barker is really nice and knowledgeable. However, she has super vague grading criteria and assigns tons of papers without really telling you what to write about. On one of the papers, the average was 60%. She also wants a lot of class discussions and says she loves to hear student opinions but she tends to take over the conversation
