Great teacher
This class sucked. The information wasn't presented in a manner that made any sense to me. However, she offered enough extra credit and other oppourtunites in the class to finish with a decent grade.
Possibly the worst teacher I've ever had. Did not present the materials in class that were necessary for the test. She would typically just work through example problems in class without explaining them in a way that made sense, and that was never really enough to make sense of all of the homework or any of the test questions.
She's a wonderful teacher, she actually is the reason I changed my major to accounting. She's tough, but she explains things really well and is available for questions. She's also got a good sense of humor.
She was not a very good teacher. She had us grade part of our first tests and we still did not get them back for at least a month after we had taken them. She does not get grades posted in a timely manner so you have no idea what your grade is going into any test. I would not recommend her as a teacher!
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. I have been at the University for 4 semesters and have never dealt with someone that cancels office hours as much as she does. Along with that, her class is completely useless. I have taught myself everything I need to know, meaning her lectures are completely pointless.
If I ever had to take another class with her, I would probably drop out of college. She is the worst teacher I have ever encountered. Cancels office hours, tests are ridiculously impossible, and she wastes too much time watching dumb videos. Because of her, I will never take another accounting class in my life. Get out while you still can.
I have been in college for 4.5 years and she is, without question, the worst teacher I've ever had. Her tests are impossible, her lectures are boring, and it's the only class I've ever failed and I'm still not quite sure how it happened. Her class will ruin your entire semester...Seriously. I will never forget her and how terrible her class was.
Her tests were VERY hard and bordering on impossible, however if you studied and went to office hours she was more than willing to help. I learned so much in her class and because of her tough standards I remember the majority of it 3 years later and I was not an accounting major.
Her exam is hard. you should not just memorize sutff in the textbook, but u should understand deeply. She really eagers to help students.
Very good teacher. Extremely helpful, but the subject matter is hard. Do not memorize examples, but do your homework several times before the exam. Pay attention to the quizzes, they are a good indication of what will be on the test.
she is the best teacher I ever had. Her tests were hard, but for those of you who only think about tests, wait till you get a real job. I would take any class with her
Terrible teacher
The examples that she used in class were nothing like what they were on the test. She claims that the examples are directly from test but they arent. She does a good job of explaining in class but here test are IMPOSSILBE. she tries to trick you in every way possible. Unless you kno accounting better than the back of your hand you will struggle.
Her teaching style was just not for me. She lectures from PPTs everyday that you can get from Blackboard. Her tests are very hard. She tries to trick you, the homework doesn't reflect the tests at all. She posts online reviews that are somewhat helpful. Never saved time to review in class.
Worthless, she goes out her way to trick you on tests and makes the class much harder than it needs to be. Also, she spends a good portion of time trying to get you to change your major to Accounting, which isn't what I wanted to do ever so she wasted my time. Everyone should take this class through SCC online, same credits, less stress.
If you go to class, do the homework, and study for the tests then it really isn't that hard of a class. I got a B and rarely went to class. Professor Cosgrove explains the concepts well, but she does make the tests pretty hard.
Tests are very, very difficult. She'll help you if you visit her office hours; however, I thought I was well prepared for all the tests and did very poorly on them. I didn't miss a class and yet still found it to be tricky. I wouldn't recommend taking this class if you can help it.
Very, very difficult class. She is not a good teacher and I would not recommend her. Take the course through SEC (can be on-line) but is a lot less difficult than her.
I took 309 this summer. The class has a ridiculous amount of homework and the recitation is a waste of time. Must go to class and keep up on homework and take notes on your papers and you will do fine! Lots of hard work, very respectable teacher. Cosgrove is very helpful, this is just a hard class.
Do all homework and pay attention in class. Tests are difficult. I got a B attending about one class per week and doing the homework.
The worst professor I have ever had; I seriously thought about switching my major after having her in ACCT202 and later finding out she is the only person that teaches ACCT309. Her tests are impossible- and I was always well prepared; her two classes are the only I have ever gotten B's; I've been a straight A student otherwise for 6 semesters.
She wastes class time talking about her life stories that nobody cares about instead of preparing you for her impossible exams; she plays favorites WAY TOO MUCH; if you don't laugh at her jokes or attend every class, she hates you and it shows; she didn't have exams graded from 3 months ago by the time we took finals; Shes unjustifiably arrogant
Tests and homework problems are nothing alike. You teach yourself the class. Nothing you can really do to study for the tests. Worst class I've ever taken.
So far I have attended class everyday. i have done all the homework, and have taken all the online quizzes. I actually read the book and yet i still managed to fail the first in class quiz. I'm not a dumb or lazy student and I generally do well, however getting an A in this class seems impossible.
Hard tests!Didn't do well on the first one even though knew what was going on. After that, had to study allll week before the next ones. Got an A, just study well!
Definitely has favorites, and runs a racket with her Beta Alpha Psi fraternity. If you ever need anything, don't ask unless you're in with the BAP crew.
Terrible professor!! She tries her hardest to trick you on tests, and they are nearly impossible. I was an accounting major, she made me hate everything about accounting... I never want to see a contribution margin again in my life!! And it doesn't matter if you don't take her because she still writes all the tests.
Difficult class. Cosgrove does a great job of covering the material in depth in class. Take the time to study out of class and do the reviews and online homework. If you are looking to just put in the minimum effort good luck passing this class.
Challenging teacher. She makes sure you actually learn the material, you can't really get off just memorizing things for the test. She explains things very well in class and goes over many examples, just do the homework and pay attention! Great teacher.
Dont cheat in her class cuz she will most definitely catch you and fail you. Trust me
She is a much better teacher than many. She explains the material in depth, do the simple homework and study and you should do fine on the tests. I have experienced her not so pleasant side out of class, she definitely has favorites. But overall a good teacher, her test questions are all questions that have been in hw or done in class
My favorite teacher this semester- she knows exactly what she's talking about and goes through it in a logical way. Tests are not impossible, just do the review given beforehand. She is touchy about students talking during class, but gives you plenty of time to do in-class examples and discuss.
Has a bit of an attitude but good overall, come to class take good notes and you should be fine
Professor that actually cares about and challenges her students. Her class isn't easy but if you try you should be okay.
VERY hard teacher. She loves to throw you off on the test and is not very nice to talk to during office hours. She makes you feel really stupid. Very intimidating and not easy to come to with questions.
Cosgrove lectures the material very well - lots of examples which she works through step by step in class. Make sure to read the textbook very thoroughly if you want to have any chance of doing well on the tests. Attend lectures to catch possible bonus points. Cosgrove won't go out of her way to be friendly, but she certainly isn't mean.
Can someone explain to me how you can go to class everyday, take detailed notes, do all the homework, read all the chapters in the book and then practically master the study guide and still struggle immensely on the tests? God awful experience with her.
Cosgrove is definitely very intelligent and a great administrator, but she is a god-awful professor. It's not the difficulty of her class that makes her terrible (I managed to get a B+ by studying hard), it's her tendency to emphasize tricking and confusing the students over teaching them. Ultimately, it's her lack of caring that gets an F from me.
Tests are completely different from homework and in-class examples. I always did very well on online homework assignments and then had no idea what I was doing on the tests. She uses much harder problems on exams that are apparently just meant to trick and confuse students.
She is very intense and moves quickly. Very hard to exams. I was always told, if you come out with a C, you're doing alright in the class.
Yeah, definitely avoid this class if you can. Every little piece of information that can be tweaked to mess you up on tests will be there, which makes them incredibly difficult. Also only 25 questions, so it's easy to get a poor grade just by missing few. Study sessions are offered. Read the book like crazy, MAYBE you can do okay.
When in class she does a good job of making you understand the in-class examples. Homework brings the difficulty up a level, and tests bring it up even more.
No.. just no
You think you understand it in class, but then the tests are different and she trips you up on everything. There is no way of getting out of this class with a high grade.
She has no interest in teaching the course. She rushes through the material without allowing full understanding from students. Although I got an A- in the class, i had to work very hard and I WOULD NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HER AGAIN.
This is worst professor I ever have. I took her class twice. First time I could not get an A, so I dropped it, but I still went through all the material with her. I took it again this semester and she barely had notes and I still didn't get my grade yet which influenced my registration for my last semester class. Disaster teacher!
disrupts the whole class to yell at students who are whispering quietly (400+lecture hall) Zips through material and expects us to understand without explanation, seems to not care about whether or not we understand the material. Tests are tricky.
One of the worst professors I've had in college. Refused to give me full credit for correct answers, due to "hard to understand" methods of how I arrived at my answer. NOT a nice lady.
She cares more about trick questions than teaching methods. Questions worked in class are so easy, tests are almost impossible. She does not care about her students, or learning in general.
This class is demanding. Debra is a hard teacher. She gives 100 + review questions for the exam, then there are only 25 on the actual test. I failed some quizzes for getting the right answer, but not doing it her way. Go to class, read, study, study, study… DO the homework. Take advantage of her extra credit assignments, they can only help you.
She cares that you learn the material and will help you if you pass. Her lectures and her tests are pretty clear cut, as long as you study. She explains things in an easy-to-understand way. There are a lot of homework assignments, but they are easy and they help.
Her tests are challenging, but working the practice exam is very helpful. Showing up and paying attention is critical for success. If you don't understand things the first time, good luck. She doesn't really know how to approach topics from multiple perspectives.
Deb is a great teacher and easy to get along with. You are graded on participation and she will give out extra credit. Homework assignments are collected everyday for completion points- this is a huge part of the grade! do the assignments and decent on the tests and you will get an A
There is a homework assignment pretty much every class 10pts each pretty much graded on completion. They definitely help to buffer your grade when it comes to the exams. She is a good professor that makes it worthwhile to come to class.
Tests are near impossible even with a note sheet that is two-sided with no restrictions as to what you can put on it. Luckily there is a lot of homework that is a completion grade for the most part to off-set test grades. She is probably the most entertaining accounting professor I will ever have, she definitely makes the boring material better.
Deb is a good teacher! She gives participation points fairly. Only if you answer questions in class will you get chips, and 20-25 chips50 pts participation points. As an international student, it's not easy to get chips at first, but finally I got 22! She has tons of HW. Do every HW carefully so that you can learn, and know what to answer in class
Worthless. Perhaps not Deb's fault; however, the information being taught in this class is an over convolution of the most obvious basic ideas, with examples archaically grabbed from 50 years ago. She has a ton of HW assignments and just gives everyone perfect scores to make up for her lousy tests that are unnecessarily difficult.
Deb is easily one of the coolest, if not the coolest professor, in the accounting department. You have homework assignments every day that are graded upon completion that help to buffer her very difficult tests. This class would be really boring if it wasn't taught by her.
Deb's pretty awesome. She has a lot of real world stories that are funny. Class isn't too difficult, although the material can be challenging. Biggest complaint about Deb is that it literally takes her months to grade exams, so you don't really have any idea how well or poorly you are doing in the class.
She is a good teacher and has great stories but her extra credit given isn't fair. Not everyone is able to get the same amount. Only 2 tests and an excel test which is graded very hard. There is a lot of homework but she grades them for completion. Also talk in class she really cares about participation points
Deb is good. She has good stories and interesting discussions. She gives participating points fairly, and I think it is easy to get them if you are willing to speak. Although there are tons of homework, you will get full points if you put effort into it.
Deb is one of the best accounting professors available in COB. Her classes are so straight forward that failure is purely due to user error. Her assignments are fill in the blank completion with references to the content covered in the book. She provides study guides that if utilized, result in an easy A on the exam. I highly recommend Deb.
Deb was a very good teacher. She really cares about her students and allows easy ways for pre exam extra credit. Attendance is taken and participation is counted. However, there is homework due for every class, which she sometime doesn't take so its your own gamble to not do it. The tests are unreasonably hard and super hard to study for.
Studying for hours did little to prepare me for the exams, which was rather frustrating since exam scores didn't correlate with how much I actually studied. The Excel part of the course was probably the easiest part of the class and most useful post-college. Take really good notes in class and participate in class discussions or you won't do well.
Only one professor teach 309, you do not have another choice. She is a nice person, but the way she teach in class is boring. The only thing you need to do is make her happy cause the attendance score depend on her mood.
Deb is a kind person and a great storyteller, but her class is far more difficult than it seems. Expect a LOT of homework and readings outside of class. The tests were very challenging, and no matter how much I studied I never seemed to be quite prepared. Luckily, she offers a decent amount of extra credit to compensate for the tough exams.
Your grade in this class will solely rely on class participation, three exams, and lots of homework. The Excel portion of the class was the easy part... lectures are rough. It's a must to take really thorough notes in class. Even then, though, the exams are extremely hard and Deb doesn't help much with how to prepare and study for them.
She's not structured 100% and is very all over the place. She also acts like were children. She is very nice though.
Deb is a good teacher for this course. She expects a lot out of her students, but does teach the class well. For how simple the content of the course is, the exams are very difficult. No one got an A on the first exam in my section. To get an A in this course, you will have to put in a lot of work and effort, but is doable.
Be prepared for lots of homework and reading. While she gives answers to the homework assignments in class, it's hard to correct your homework when she goes so fast. The pacing in this course was all over the place. Some weeks it would be a couple easy assignments, other weeks you had to read 100+ pages for COSO by the next class. Do well in Excel.
Impossible to do good on the exams avoid class at all costs the content isn't all that hard however the exams are the worst things you will ever experience I hate my life because of this class and this class only
Worst class Ive ever taken and absolutely tanked my gpa ridiculously hard for no reason she does not care about the health or wellbeing of her students the tests reflect nothing of what you learn in class its 1000x harder I spent hours reading and studying everyday just to get a C
Really nice person but the tests are stupid. It doesn't even help that you get a notes sheet.
Homework is assigned before talking about concepts so you're on your own to learn it. Exams don't reflect the material learned in class and when you meet to go over answers with her, she can be demeaning when you explain your reasoning behind picking an answer. You're allowed to have a note sheet but honestly, it won't help much. Good luck besties
Deb was a horrible professor. I took the online summer course and immediately regretted it. She assigns too much homework to where you should probably take the course by itself. Not to mention that her testing proctor system is not that good and would not work for me the first two tests.
Questions on tests are worth 4 points each so if you miss 2 say goodbye to an A. The 5 week course is a lot of work but obtainable. Watch the lectures and do the practice tests and you can get a B.
Deb was super friendly but her class was extremely difficult. I had met with her during office hours, and asked questions which was super helpful just to do poorly on the exams. I would definitely recommend looking for a different professor
I don't understand why people hate Cosgrove. Does she have hard tests? Yes. Do you have to go to class? Yes. The only reason accountants make good money is because employers know we have some hard classes and this is one of them. That being said, she keeps lecture interesting and is a fairly funny professor.
Deb's class was the only one that I genuinely enjoyed going to this semester because her lectures were interesting and relevant. She expects participation and tests were difficult. To do well, it's important to take thorough notes and think about overall concepts rather than just memorizing definitions. My biggest complaint is that she grades slow.
Her lectures are always entertaining and engaging. She does a great job at making you feel like you are cared about and respected. Make sure to do the reading and understand the concepts instead of just memorizing definitions. Otherwise, you won't do well on the exams. Study the homework!
Deb is a great professor and was my favorite class this semester. However, getting an A in the class is tough unless you miss two or fewer questions per test since her tests are short. Take thorough notes and study up on your Excel (the practical is what got me an A-). While you have 2 HW assignments a week, it's manageable and worth it to do them.
Gives a hard participation grade that nullifies test scores.
Yes, 309 is a difficult class, but Deb is an amazing professor. If you go to the lectures, participate, take notes, and take studying for the exams seriously, you should be able to get a B or higher in the course. The Excel stuff is fairly easy and ended up boosting my grade. You are allowed a note sheet on the exams, but still study a lot!
Accounting 309 is not about accounting per se. It's hardcore professional training. How do professional think and behave based on ideological tasks. Non-professionals do not carry creative tasks because they're given instructions A-Z.
Cosgrove his a good professor for this accounting course. This class is quite boring, but she does a great job grabbing your attention with stories and humor. Not a big fan of her teaching format (doing hw first and then having a lecture over hw we did the day previous). But thats my personal opinion. Excel Exam really helped with my grade.
Deb is a very fun professor to have. However I think her class is very difficult. Homework is pretty easy it's just a lot and takes a while. She makes the exams (25 MC) more difficult than needed due to them being short. Excel portion is a hit or miss for people, either makes sense or you struggle a bit. Deb is always there to help, get to know her
Worst accounting class I have taken at UNL. Cosgrove is a cool person but an absolutely terrible professor. She often contradicts herself and confuses the heck outta her students. Class is very exam heavy and there is nothing else to cushion your grade. Tests are so confusing! You will literallybe given 4 right answers but 1 is "more right".
I took this course in the summer. I will say that she is an extremely nice person, but she expects you to spend 5-6 hours a day on the class if you take the course in the summer. The tests are designed to make you mess up and the material isn't explained in terms of the concepts you are expected to know on the test. Also, very test heavy.
This class broke me.
Nice lady. This class takes so much time and work and energy. Youll have 2 smartbooks a week, two problem sets a week. A quiz every 2 weeks. Her tests are brutal and taken in DLC. Tests are nothing like study guide. She will make a practice test for you and then only two of the questions will even be remotely similar to actual test ones. Not easy
All of her tests are full of trick questions. I am not sure why you are even required to pay for this class she does not record any lectures or prepare any assignments. McGraw Hill does it all.
Around the end of the semester she gave us PowerPoints to help us understand the material but overall was very confusing. We had to teach ourselves how to do the homework and when it came to exams, none of the practice exams helped, there would be at max 1-2 questions somewhat similar to the practice exam and ?'s were hard and confusing.
This class is much easier than 309 was with Deb. This was Deb's first time teaching 308, so I think it was a little easier but will probably make it harder in the future. Exams weren't super difficult but still need to study. Deb is always willing to help. Homework can be frustrating at times, especially the labs. Do extra credit when offered.
She is very brutal and honestly is all over the place when teaching and loves trick questions. I don't think she knows or cares what students think. shes hand writes her own tests and half the time confuses herself with her own answers.
The class is just a bunch of busy work, and it's basically an exam only class. 8 hours of homework for one assignment
So much homework. Like so much. For some reasons, she thinks we've got nothing in life but work on and submit close to 80 questions every other day. I would absolutely recommend to not take this class.
I wish I never got moved off the wait list for this class. 71% of the grade is tests so if you do poorly on 1 kiss a decent grade goodbye. 4 points a question on tests so if there's a 50/50 its an 8 point swing. She makes the class difficult that accounting 314 looks easy compared to this. The homework are barely worth anything and take hours.
terrible terrible terrible
She does NOT know the material and blames everything on the book being wrong, which is sometimes for the homework. She does not want to teach this class, and it shows! She doesn't teach; she reads the slides, then doesn't even test on the material covered in class. Read the book; she will pull things from it that she never even mentions in class.
She does not want to teach this class and it shows. Direct quote from her: "The university took my accounting information systems class from me." She does not know the material very well. Classic slide reader. Class is super test heavy and she LOVES trick questions. Pulls stuff from the textbook to put on tests that she never taught in class.
This class was way too much work, all taught by McGraw hill with no teacher instruction, Tests are hard and bulk of your grade and taken in the DLC, Take 201/202 instead much easier.
Cosgrove is someone who I feel does not want to teach the online course and was told she had to. She did not make any content for us, there were no slides/videos that she made. This course is taught solely by McGraw-Hill. There were two smart books and homework due per week, with exams in the DLC. The homework takes forever. TAKE WITH DIFF PROF!!
