She is so Funny. Great teacher. Class has a lot of material because it is an intro to all the fields of psych. but she make the class great. not a hard class to pass
This class was really easy. she is a funny teacher, always tying the material into our every day lives. the lecture does seem to go on for a long time, but pay attention to it and youll do fine on the midterms and the quizes. also the quizes and midterms are easy. i recommend taking her for the intro class and youll change ur major to psy
extremely easy! Midterms are so easy, its a dumbed down class. No challenge at all. O and her examples arent all that great. Overall, its super easy. O and you have to present infront of 150 students.
you do learn a lot in this class. she's a good teacher. although there are times i almost fell asleep...
Easy teacher and highly recommended for those who want to learn and get an A.
She is a great teacher if you wanna learn. Do the work get and "A" its very simple
Great prof. Interesting and funny lectures that she relates to everyday life. Quizzes and tests are straightforward and easy. Just go to lec and listen and review b4 the test. Simple and easy A. There's a group project but it's easy.
Easy teacher and intresting as long as you attend class.
Easy easy class. Good professor. If you miss class (not recommended)just study from the book and you'll still be okay.
Pretty basic from the get go she explains all that is required and is easily available. Biggest assignment is a group project which my group did like a day before and still did really well. Take the class!
go to class. learn. do all the assignments, theyre small but worth points and get an A grou project is the most important thing.
Do not take her. She is unresponsive and appears to be a hard grader. She is unclear with what she wants and expects the world. Her syllabus says one thing and she wants something else. She never returns emails and if she does she takes a few weeks. One thing about her is that she is energetic which is good but hard grader and unfair, i think.
The person who posted before me does have some point. But I'd like to add a few. This prof has A LOT of work for u and is picking when grading papers! she got 2 abstract paper, 1 observation, 1 group presentation, 2 online responses, and to much reading zzzz..she appears to be nice and all but her teaching style isn't the best
this professor seems to be easy going and informative at first, but she leave u in the dust later on.. shes unorganized and has an unbalanaced grading system. if u just dont do well in your oral presentation, that will drop you one whole grade wow!!
She is cool, easy to pass. Lot's of work though...
Great instructor, she makes the subject interesting. She's one of the few instructors that returns assignments on time. The course requires lots of reading and you need to attend class. She gives you a few oppotunities to earn extra credit. You cant expect to do well, if you don't attend class and if you dont turn in assignment on time.
She is strict at times, but is always open for class discussion (mostly during lecture), may go overboard. Quizzes r tricky, just read the book. Do well in yr group presentation. overall, u can get at least a B. Highly recommended
Debra Garcia is a cool person, but as a professor she is average. You have to take notes because she does not post them on webct. For the 1st time ever she made her midterm & final online, which was awesome! However if you have a question for her do NOT email her cuz you'll wait forever for a response.
great professor, good personality. although it is not a easy A, but if you study well on her notes and have a nice group project presentation, you are around that A somewhere.
easy class. just study extra hard for the quizzes because they're a little confusing. attendance not mandatory but she gives extra points once in awhile. there's a group project/presentation. it was easy though.
Watch your back. She may seem friendly, but she has her own agenda. In my class, there were several students that she was aware of cheating, but she overlooked it and they received an A in the course; where as, students that turned in honest work, were given a more critical look. She is extremely unorganized and absent. Beware!
Watch out! One of the most incompetent "professors" I've ever had. Conducts class leisurely but runs tests as though graduate level! For some odd reason has no respect for honest students. Will not adjust her policies for students but carelessly rearranges syllubus to her own needs. Very defensive when approached with concerns. Mindless.
Debra is dope! Psych is my major but I had to retake the intro because my last teacher was incompetent! But this class was really interesting and very easy to understand the information. There's like 3 15q quizzes, midterm, I just reviewed my notes and got an A on the final Presentation is a piece of cake. Just know what your talking about.
TAKE SOMEONE ELSE! TRULY! This lady (she does not deserve the title of professor) makes every excuse for herself, but she cannot wait to use your discrepencies against you. Completely unfair! Why is she teaching?
She is too hyper and talks much too fast. I wonder what drugs is she on?! She is unflexible and not very understanding. She does not accept any late papers at all. You can't eat or drink, text message or have the cell phone on, and no sleeping even if you can't control it!Her syllabus and instructions are not very clear. She replies late to emails.
Nice teacher, her lectures are not boring. She gives plenty of extra credit opportunities. She is a spaz and is always late and misses class on important dates. Her exams are hard and she is a hard grader.
Class very interesting! as well as subject. Her lectures are fun to be at, she doesnt make it boring. She tries to get students involved. Easy grade, if you attend everyday and study really hard; theres alot of info. She is often late n absent.Does not allow u to make up any assignments wat so ever, and relies on her assistant all the time.
CAN'T THE PSYCH DEPARTMENT GET MORE PROFESSORS. I HAVE TO TAKE THIS PERSON AGAIN, BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE IS TEACHING THE COURSE (PSY 410B)IN THE SUMMER. GOD I DREAD THIS. SHE REALY IS NOT HELPFUL! YOU'D THINK SHE'D GO ON A FAMILY VACATION IN THE SUMMER. SHE HAS A FAMILY! GO ON VACATION WITH THEM! PLEASE!
She is okay. She comes off a lil strong and know it all but she will defiantly have your attention the whole time. Her tests are difficult. They come off very psych ish not really CHDV. A midterm, a final, a paper and a portfolio are required. I enjoyed her but not sure if I would take her again.
nice professor. easy class. for all those whining babies, she is easy and not boring, easy B!!!!
She is easy. She is always at least ten minutes late but then expects us to stay after to compensate for her tardiness. She is unhelpful and never in her office. She has never responded to my emails but lies and says she does. i get A's in her class and don't require much assistance but she is flat out RUDE to other students. Take any other teacher
I took this class in spring. Super easy. She had her midterm and final all on WebCT (multiple choices) but she'll ask you to come on the day of finals to finish the essay portion. Will be 3 papers about 3-4 pages each and she's an easy grader on them if you have your references cited correctly. she even offer a lot of learning/extra credits too.
she's smokin' hot! i aced her exams!
Wow! This teacher takes the cake. She doesn't deserve the Title of professor. She is always late, and makes excuses for everything. Yet she expects you to perfect. uses the publisher's power point slides... and tests..can she be any lazier..? good thing its an easy class!
She is super nice and the lectures are intretsting. Thre are 3 online quizzes and 2 papers..and a final.
Quizzes are based on her notes. Assignments are easy, show up for class and you will do good.
Answered everyone's questions in class, but was not very friendly one on one. Class was very clear and her test questions came directly from her lecture slides.
fairly good class..not great with one-on-one professor to student mentorship...overall easy...study slides and youll be good. Dont expect fast replys to your emails or office hours visits..shes bad with that.
She's almost never punctual but makes up for it by giving extra credit. Her tests are just a tad hard, just make sure to go over the slides. You're better off taking your laptop because she's not punctual about posting them up in time for you to print. She can be super chill or down right mean. It boils down to doing your assignments and studying.
Not great, not terrible. 1 paper, 1 project,4 tests.
Great professor. Very energetic and keeps the class awake especially at 8am. One on one with student is horrible.. does not respond to emails & comes off a bit rude. Other than that.. her tests are okay just look over powerpoint slides and attend all class meetings
she is a horrible professor does not explain well, is always rude, yea she has energy but is rude, she does not explain well and expects you to know the material, exams are hard, essays are easy to do but i would not recommend her to anyone. i regret taking this class with her.
funny prof, but really disorganized. teaches things differently from the book and makes the tests confusing. can be kind of rude sometimes. be sure you keep track of all work and grades! 3 mc quizzes, 1 mc final, short paper about fictional client, one group project/presentatation, doesn't take attendance
Garcia's class was EASY. 3 quizzes (30 ?s), and 1 final (60 ?s), 2 projects (25 pts). She allowed us to work in groups for one of the projects, we choose the project we want from a list. She posts powerpoint slides on moodle, so missing class isn't a biggie. Provided several extra credits! She's an easy grader! Textbook was $5 on amazon!
If you're looking for an easy A, TAKE GARCIA. If you're looking to be inspired, or to further you knowledge of psychology, look else where. She's nice, but unorganized. She won't respond to emails. Is only in her office hours some of the time. Always makes excuses for missing class. Something always comes up, excuses excuses excuses. Easy A though.
DONT TAKE HER! shes a horrible professor, you cant rely on her, she replies to emails a day later IF THAT! shes rude and unconsiderate. She posts everything on moddle LAST MINUTE if you miss one day of class you're totally lost because shes always making last minute changes because she cant keep up with her own syllabus.
She is excellent at teaching, but I have mixed feelings about my experience in the class. She is very smart and entertaining, but it's true, she's disorganized (gave me the wrong grade on my paper) and also can have an attitude when calling her out on mistakes. Take her, but keep track of your grades and watch out for her alpha female attitude!
She knows her stuff well. Very fun and bubbly professor. 4 quizes, 1 essay, 1 final and must do 3 hours of volunteer work (for psy research) She is nice, but not that approachable. OVERALL I WOULD RECOMMEND HER. :)
Shes great, very interesting lectures and topics, and one group project with a group paper. 3 exams and one final. and final is optional. Take her!
Professor Garcia knows her stuff very well but is very disorganized. Would show up to class at least 10 minutes late everyday! Reads off PowerPoint from textbook publisher. She is also interestingfunny but can be rude and unapproachable. The class was fairly easy, 3 exams, one final (remedial exam) and a group project.
Professor Garcia is a bubbly lecturer. Overall, I have mixed impression of the class, which wasn't too bad. A wide range of topics were covered, but I guess I was expecting too much because I had high hopes for this class and was hoping the discussions in class would go deeper beyond what the text talked about. Bit disappointed but would recommend
Proffessor Garcia is an awesome teacher. She is very helpful. There are 4 online quizzes which may change to class quizzes. 1 final, a group project and a presentation. Highly recommend.
Never shows up for class on time. Lectures are a mile a minute. A lot of group work, but overall pretty OKAY class. Makes the material interesting
Lecture heavy and really knows her stuff but she doesn't actually grade your work. She relies on other students in your group to decide overall grade. I had to fight a final grade because group members lied about actual work that was done. Horrible professor. Do not take her.
Group Essays & Tests. Book + Lectures. Lectures arent that great bc "we should have read the chapter the night before." Only real complaint is she gets off on tangents and doesn't lecture, will spend majority of class talking about her life.
Gets off topic and talks about her personal life too often. Never gets through her lectures, which consists of her reading off the powerpoint. Comes off as rude and makes you feel inferior when you ask her for help about an assignment. If you can, take this course with any other professor.
Debra is almost always late. Like other students have mentuoned, she goes off on tangents sometimes unrelated to the course. The class is not hard but it can get annoying.
This class relies heavily on the group projects and doing online testes with the selected groups. you have to CAREFULLY CHOOSE YOUR GROUP MEMBERS because you stuck with them until the end of the semester. it is great that she does extra credit throughout the semester be sure to do them as much as possible.
2 papers done with a group. 1 interview and 1 critical analysis. 2 quizzes done with the same group you do the paper. 2 test and the final consist of a remedial test. She comes late usually and she tends to talk about random stuff and is really engage in students life. Offers 10 extra credic throughout the semester.
Debra is great! She is really intelligent and will definitely work you, but you actually learn. She loves group work because she trains us for research in psy, and honestly her assignments are not that bad. Lectures are pretty straightforward, and yes extra credit! I've taken her for multiple classes and always enjoyed them!
I was skeptical about taking Professor Garcia at first but she proved to be a great teacher! Very intelligent and made you think like a real student in analyzing things. Loved the class! And this is known as a boring class but it was made very interesting!
Professor Garcia seemed strict at first, but instead is one of the nicest professors in the psychology major. She was extremely clear on what the exams were covering as well as offering group quizzes for your group to complete. Follow her guidelines and keep it analytical for essays and you will surely get a good grade. Highly Recommended
She knows her stuff but shes so rude. She needs a better attitude. Her class is so easy if you read & keep up with homework. Her lectures are boring.
Dr. D. Garcia is one of the best professors at California State University Los Angeles. Why: She cares about her students, the community and is very conscious about the people around here, this includes her students.
when I first had to take her I was intimidated cuz of the feedback on this site. I was proved wrong when I took her, I am now taking a second class with her. not sure about the negative feedback about her on here. an easy A if you are not lazy and put in your work. lots of group projects but very easy. very nice and lots of extra credit!
I am a person who is picky with teachers, she is easy. her class is based on a lot of group projects but she is nice, if someone from the group is not doing their part she does care if u approach her about it. not sure whats going on with the negative things being said about her, its kind of a bummer cuz she gives alot of opportunities to pass.
Dr. Garcia is a great professor! Don't really understand the negative comments either but she is a really smart and nice woman. Some people may think she has a strong personality cuz she keeps it real, but she is kind. Very clear grading criteria. Group quizzes and projects but they aren't bad. Provides good feedback. She cares about her students.
An easy class but you have to work for it and make sure you do all your assignments. She wont baby anyone and it is your responsibility to keep up with the work. she also gives a lot of extra credit which can help you pass with a better grade if you are worried about your grade. good class with lots of papers as good practice for grad school
She is rude grumpy making us feel undeserving of help
I've had dr Garcia for three classes already and she really helps those who want to go for their masters degrees in psych and helps write good recommendations. You should take her course not only because it's easy but because you have her as a network for a future school you go to
why'd she force us students to only write using psychology research but she demands to lecture other research hypocritical?
Deborah Garcia is not available outside of class and during class if you mention anything that has nothing to do with herself she will ignore you Sheignore ed 2 of my questions and I tried to Mention good things of school but she refused to even look at me
was every1 knowin my grade fo? she told class my grade
One of worst professors i've had in college. Didn't learn anything new and she is actually quite insensitive to the needs of her students. A LOT of groups projects so if you're not a fan avoid her class at all cost. Doesn't like it if you use the restroom during class, her grading is all over the place as she doesnt seem to keep track of everything
Neuro no no not for debra garcia. She's wrong about a coupla things, and she don't get the way to teach Bored and Snoring isn't learning She don't know what she's talking about. Don't take this with her.
Take another teacher. Her attitude and teaching is poor.
Lectures were always interesting and always gave us real life examples/situations. We did have to get into groups many times but it wasnt that difficult or did not require any meetings outside of class. Loved this class!
Wanna get yelled at & forced to hear her personal ranting long winded stories about not anything forcing late class ending to force you to be late to the next class? There's somethin wrong with her
She teached that correlation is experiment and announced she don't know statistics humiliates when we wrong.
She shouted she didnt read the textbook she teaching us.
Looks like she snaps you with her cell and stares at you through her phone in class, she makes messes all over the place, she leaves a mess acting royal, and she blames and encourages harm to passerbyers for her messes.
I have no idea why there are so many negative comments in this section. I took Garcia a while back for Psy 3180, she is amazing! I almost didn't take her because I read the negative comments below. I believe the same person is writing these harsh comments (their grammar is off). Her assignments are very reasonable and she is caring!
The negative comments are clearly by one person who has a vendetta for Dr. Garcia. This is my second class with her and she is truly a great and funny prof. She's always available during office hours. She won't baby you but you'll def have all the tools needed to succeed. PARTICIPATE and you'll do fine. Sit with good people, they'll be your group!!
lots of group projects and you have to participate to get points for class. she talks a lot about her life experiences. she likes to pick on people and call out people on it which makes people feel more anxious to talk in class. her test are online but gives a short amount of time for it. overall, I will never take her class again.
I loved this class, and I retained A LOT! I love Dr. Garcia; she's hilarious and informative. I, at first, didn't like the outline of the class, it was overwhelming, but it was feasible and sets all students up for success even if minimum effort is put into it. The class is heavily based on group assignments, so be aware of that! Highly recommend.
She let's a certain group be excused for late assignments. You can hear her from across the wide building other hallways, so pick another professor. Take a different class.
She wasn't at office hours so take another teacher and she's a instructor, ain't a professor
The Worst in the entire world out of touch teacher shoutin that social media phone messaging influences only the immature.
Forget about office hours. We are too afraid of her yelling mean attitude at us to complain. She is never there for office hours. I waited an hour and again almost half. She's rude. She disrespects. Her office is a wreck of food, her drinks she blames on people while she grabs em and chugs she has food stuff everywhere she doesn't clean her stuff
Dont take her for research methods. worst classes Ive taken. She makes things way harder than they need to be. Students take this class as a requirement not bc research is their life or passion. Shes rude &very negative. The structure of her class is unnecessary hard and she has extremely high expectations. She also takes forever to grade.
Dr. Garcia has really high expectations, she's a really tough grader and only replies to certain student emails. If you end up taking her make sure you participate all the time or you won't pass.
Forget about emails and office hours She's nowhere.
Professor Garcia was simple in her approach to online teaching. There was one major group project, a term paper, and about ten chapter quizzes. She made her lecture slides and videos accessible which made the quizzes easier to pass. Participation is a must if you want to pass though, so if you're too shy to speak up maybe skip out on this class.
The good news there is no final, as the final is split into small parts (quizzes) which consist of 5 questions, however, she does not prep you for this, she does not go over the textbook at all, her whole class is based on just speaking about the chapters, and something called gas presentation, in which students have to do a presentation, avoid her
Although she is knowledgeable on the subject being taught, shes not good at teaching the subject. She needs improvement. Another thing is she can be rude at times, and really PATRONIZING towards students. At the end of the course she will try to be nicer. Class based mostly on group projects. Takes long to respond to an email. Look for another.
Her short lectures are uploaded on YouTube which uses for weekly 5Q quizzes EASY. Classes contains of discussions the whole period based on topics of chapter and current events. Group project and paper easy. TAKE HER FOR THIS COURSE
I was experiencing domestic violence & told her about it bc I needed extra time to complete a paper given the circumstances. I wasn't able to meet the deadline bc I was traumatized and in pain, so she failed me & also ignored my request for an incomplete, knowingly halting my graduation. Mind you, this happened when the pandemic had just started.
Dr. Garcia is extremely patronizing to her students. I have no idea why a professor would project so much arrogance to anyone, let alone undergraduate students. Her lectures are mediocre at best. Participation is key to a good grade, however she will favorite who she gives participation points to, expect her to demean your response if she disagrees
i have never given anyone a review on here. so me writing on here says something. Professor Garcia her lectures are great BUT her teaching is not. If you want to pass the class you need to participate if you don't your grade drastically drops. & if you have questions & email her she won't respond quickly. Try avoiding her class.
I have never left a rating on here but Professor Garcia is something else. Every single class is a Socratic seminar. You have to participate if you want to pass. The material is easy but if you are not comfortable speaking up you will not pass. She makes it intimidating to share in her class. You also have to choose your group wisely.
One of the most unapproachable, critical, condescending prof ive met. participation mandatory in uncomfortable seminars in which she rushes and condemns others opinions. Says her reviews dont reflect her, they do. Tough grader, good luck getting an A. Does not prepare you for quizzes.
She is very straightforward about what is needed in class: She highly values participation, and there is some credit for something going on in every class. Her class consists of short and easy quizzes, discussions in and out of class, and a final big paper; group presentation. put in the work, and you can get an A
Dr. Garcia is passive-aggressive and will not answer your emails. She grades per participation but we don't have enough time for the entire class to share. She is super tough on grading, but she is not clear on what she expects you to do. She doesn't respect your opinions because her perspective is always right. Avoid taking her as a professor.
I warn you, DO NOT take professor Garcia if you want to pass. Participation is mandatory if you want to pass the class. Her teaching style is not very good and she is intimidating so youre too scared to speak up. If you can get another professor, I would recommend you do so. Try to avoid her.
I dont know who has a vendetta against Garcia but shes not as bad as everyone claims. Her goal is to get you to think like grad students, so she emphasizes group seminar work and expects you to do the reading on your own. For her research class, you will be happy to have her and work in a group the whole time. Shes a great teacher if you work hard.
About 30% of your grade comes from participating; applying what you learned into class discussions. If you're timid, skip her, she'll make it known if her opinion differs from yours. She's well known in the psych dept., so you want to be on her good side. Quizzes are only 5Q.; 1 analytical letter (4 pages) and no final!
She slick when we complain she don't do what she say, all she do is trick namedrop until we no future fearsome. She don't care about any of us students.
Debra Garcia does not teach. Debra Garcia scams to do nothing but she only reads strait from the slides to add nothing. Debra Garcia's on vaca in her classes when she forces us students to discuss and present for her to eat food in class. They should have decent professors instead of her forgetting the schedule every class.
I've taken 3 classes with Garcia. She's great, just don't slack off. Speak up in class, watch her video lectures, be a good group member, and you'll do great. I've actually LEARNED more from her than any other prof. She is smart and knows psych better than most. There's always some points to be made in class, so if you're not there you won't pass.
Why Debra Garcia allowed to teach? she never answers emails, never office hours, & personal insults afta intimidated repetitively cruel insisted same personal info so we don't go to class. She's disrespectful likes to humiliate then screams she's friends & the same as those in charge to threaten & isolate us from reporting her. She gives jets A's.
Seem to be some prejudice toward students. When reaching out at times there's some miscommunication. She would say one thing then when it came up again it wouldn't be what was previously said. You get docked points if you do not talk in the seminars in her class but she gives 10-15 minutes and expects everyone to have time to share their opinions.
My experience with her was good! Classes with her are for people who are not shy to speak up and work with others! There are weekly quizzes and lectures. You have in class discussions and she develops a community amongst our classmates. She is a tough grader so BE diligent and don't slack off. You definitely come out6 of your shell in that class.
Dr. Garcia is one of my favorite psychology professors in the department and her class is very engaging. Yes you are required to participate and share your opinions, critical think, etc in order to get points for the seminar discussions. We are in college what do you expect? Weekly quizzes, Seminar discussions, group project, and one paper.
Dr. Garcia was an excellent professor and the classes are very interactive. Quizzes every weak but as long as you watch the lecture you will pass. If you receive an A as a final grade you don't have to take the final.
just don't.
Do not take this class if you are not one to participate. Participating is very crucial to pass this class. Dr. Garcia was very rude-- she interrupted students while they were talking. She was also very unorganized, always coming to class late. AND YOU CAN NEVER CATCH HER DUring OFFICE HOURS! Avoid her if you can.
Shows frequent "fight or flight" responses, most of them resulting in "fight" responses. You must be part of a left leaning minority or show favorable responses of left leaning groups in order to avoid the "fight" response. Those that left positive responses would belong in this group. Any ratings that speak the truth here would be erased.
I am so sad to see that Dr. Garcia has bad reviews. If you are not one to speak up in class or occasionally like to take days away from class DO NOT TAKE HER! She makes this known on the first day. Dr. Garcia offers a flipped classroom, participation matters! Little amount of work to do all you need to do for a grade is speak up during discussion.
Heartbreaking to see the bad reviews. She is an EMINENCE and does help her students on another level. Leave the prejudice aside and ignore the bad reviews because if you do your work, actually read, and participate, you will learn like nowhere else. She took me seriously when I approached her for help and did not dismiss the state of emergency.Take her
Well-respected professor on campus. After the first week, you present each chapter as a "group seminar"; basically, you teach the class that chapter. Participation is a big component of this class; sometimes, she can make people uncomfortable if she disagrees with your opinion.
Dr. Garcia gets you to engage with the material. You need to speak up to participate. You have to make the effort to do well. You don't have to be a genius to get a good grade. Pay attention, apply yourself, and contribute to class discussion. There's a simple group project and a simple individual project. Around 10 5-question quizzes. Fun class.
I have never made a review for any professor, but PLEASE read this. This is the only professor in my life that I've had a real dispute with. She's extremely condescending & demanding if you're not a social kind. Her teaching style thrives on favoritism. She uses her known status to flaunt and is super unprofessional/disorganized. 40 awful ratings!!
She has reviews dating back 2006 to now showing how much of poor professor, she is. Notice that there is a common theme with how she treats her students within these reviews? She unapproachable and mean to more docile or deferring opinion students..The nice reviews all just question the negative reviews. She see it. The bad reviews say the truth.
BEST professor I've taken at Cal State LA is Dr. Garcia! she has a unique way of engaging her students & genuinely cares. If ur expecting to coast through the class without putting in effort, then this course is not a fit for U. If ur eager to actively learn, develop ur skills, & embrace a challenging experience, then I highly recommend this class.
Garcia is just not a good professor period. End of. She is so nasty and so rude to students (interrupts discussions and has the most irritating attitude at times) and can be nice every once in a while. However, if youre just looking for an easy class to pass then go for it, but good luck.
Professor Garcia runs a lively class with lots of discussion. There are weekly quizzes, a group project, and a paper. She expects active participation, so be ready to speak up. Unstuck AI was helpful for quiz prep.
Dr. Garcia's class was honestly not what I expected in a good way. She was very straightforward with the course since the beginning only had two exams no final exam was required. She requires everyone to work in groups which is really helpful. This made the class get to know each other and easy.
During my time in college I have never had such an amazing professor. She's very social and understanding, she runs a very interactive classroom, make sure to watch lectures before class starts. I see the bad reviews claiming she's rude and too social. Maybe take an online course that fits your introverted necessities. She's very welcoming, love her.
Your grade is mainly based on whether you participated in the group activities. If you're very social in class, then she shouldn't be a problem. Otherwise, avoid taking her. She can be a bit condescending and her grading system sucks.
Highly recommend Dr. Garcia and this course. If you're looking to coast and not really participate then this class isn't for you even though it's an easy A. The thing people struggled most with was putting in the effort and it showed in the end when all they did was complain about their grades. Participation is a big must so talk every class.
Dr. Garcia is an absolutely fantastic professor. She is passionate, dedicated, understanding, and honestly quite patient. She's one of the best professors I've ever had if not the very best. This class was a delight and although it had its challenges I was still able to succeed. I love Dr. Garcia and will be taking her class AGAIN.
Not. For. Introverts. She's anything BUT inclusive for people unable to speak to the topics of the course, and highly expects you to be a recognizable face in a large hall filled with 80+ students. Impossible to get participation points FOR A GRADING SYSTEM. Terrible grading structure, awful backhanded feedback, and the epitome of toxic HR. *AWFUL*
So, I attended her orientation and this class isn't for the weak. Attendance matters, participation is a huge part of your grade and that involves either standing up and speaking or speaking in a group. There's multiple papers, and exams, along with homework. And a huge mandatory volunteer assignment that is half your grade. Don't take her.
Class was disorganized, unfair, and discouraging, with broken promises, a biased participation system, harsh grading, poor communication, and a cold, unhelpful attitude that made students feel set up to fail.
The class overall was very interesting and enjoyable, the professor on the other hand was a different story. She went MIA for multiple classes without explanation. She was completely disorganized. To make it worse people, myself included, went down an entire letter grade over participation. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!
She CONSTANTLY changes grades without warning, and it's COMPLETELY UNFAIR. DO NOT take this course! She will mess with your grades, wasting your time. Don't let yourself be PLAYED in her circus. This is BY FAR one of the WORST experiences!!!
She only cares about how many participants are in her class, grades unfairly, and is super biased. She crushes our efforts like they mean nothing and treats students harshly until the end. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COURSE IF YOU VALUE YOUR GPA OR MENTAL HEALTH. THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST PROFESSORS YOU'LL EVER ENCOUNTER.
Grade was a 95%, but went down tremendously to 65% for no participation. She refuses to acknowledge her mistake of making it established her Magic Key system appeared to be extra credit, when in her own syllabus she may or may not have created with updates, it is mandatory participation points. Focuses more on sob stories than teaching psychology.
She teaches multiple classes but gives every student the same unfair treatment. The "Magic Key" system is broken and completely ignores real effort. If I were you, I wouldn't take her again. Choose another professor who will care about your success and value your efforts!
Participation decides your fate one slip and you're six feet under. This professor doesn't care. She gets her paycheck and watches us fail like it's her goal. It's not education, it's psychological warfare masked as a class. If you value your sanity, run and never look back.
This professor's grading is a complete disaster. There's no logic, no clarity, just random and unfair assessments. You won't have a clue about your progress, and the lack of support is astounding. Avoid this class unless you want to deal with unnecessary stress and confusion.
Dr. Garcia's first day might've seemed fine, but as soon as she started oversharing her sob story, everything went downhill. The assignments are a mess, grading is completely random, and communication is practically nonexistent. It's like she checked out the moment she got your tuition. Do yourself a favor, DON'T TAKE HER.
Wasn't very clear on how bad it would affect your grade at the end if you don't speak in class. In a large lecture hall, it's not always possible to speak up often, and just because a student shares 3 out of 5 times doesn't mean it's recognized.Doing the work, showing up to class, didn't really matter in the end unless you spoke up. Not it!!!!
Even if you get 100% on the exam, it only raises your grade by 1.49 points, which is crazy. But if you get a zero, it lowers your grade by 16.39 points. This isn't teaching it's sabotage. The system is hostile, punitive, and completely demoralizing. Strongly reconsider enrolling in her class.
She ignores requests for participation records, rushes out after class leaves no time for questions. Instead of focusing on teaching, she's caught up in her personal life. She doesn't care if half the class fails it's clear she's not invested in our success and never will be. HR sessions are useless filled with vague responses and no real guidance.
She has no mercy. She told me I have a disability and to just handle it. She relies on the GA to run the class and answer questions, yet still disapproves and grades unfairly. If she can't manage, she should do it herself. She doesn't need help she can do it her own way. So why even have a GA if she's going to call me disabled? Never take her again
Dr. Garcia is an amazing professor. All the reviews are people who are don't participate and speak up. If you do your part as a student and participate. Speaking is an important part for PSY. Class with the professor isn't difficult if you're willing to put the work in.
Overall, it was a journey. The professor is a tough grader, and you have to show up daily for quizzes and earn the "Magic Key" that can boost your grade by participating every day in class. Honestly, if you don't want to deal with the pressure and competition for this "Magic Key," I wouldn't recommend taking this professor.
Sus Debra Garcia only teaches for paycheck & she does her kid's homework kid's cap dean's list hoax kids class As fro Debra Garcia's bullied biased friendteachers, Debra Garcia stalked students who had what she wants staring at us thru doors windows cracks, taking sneaky photos of us turning. She changes grading rules so she can grade biased.
Debra Garcia never read her assigned textbook to 3 classes I had from her.
Please do not take her. Her grading system is completely broken. You could do every discussion and follow what the assignment asks from you and will still give you a low grade. You could have a great relationship with her and will still give you low scores.
This lady is just straight up evil. I love the content and the activities in class, but the favoritism is INSANE. Claims to be understanding, but couldn't care less unless you're close with her.
