Her teaching style is unclear at times!! But if you get her notes it really helps! She is a funny, sweet lady. You just have to pay attention to do well in the class.
She's super cool. Though not what you think a nutrtition teacher would look like. She makes jokes at herself all the time. She's helpful and lenient on everything. I liked her a lot and if you get the noted from her then you don't even need to go to the class.
Her teaching is sometimes scattered, but she is sweet and funny and smart, her notes are very important to pay attention to
Horrible at teaching plant biology, not good at explaining things, talks alot about her personal life. If you are serious about biology, avoid her. If you just want an A, she's the one you want.
I really liked her class. Some think she's too casual but I learned a lot. Debbie is peppy and sweet. You can find all you need for the test in your notes and she basically tells you questions that are going to be on the test too on the review day. I would definitly take her again for bio.
Debbie ROCKS!! She is fun and sweet. I learned so much in this class. Not a big biology fan but LOVED her class. Get her notes, study and you'll be fine... great lady!
Debbie's a good teacher to take if you are language-oriented because it's all based on notes. The tests basically require you to memorize your notes, but if you spend a lot of time studying you'll get an A. Do the extra credit and you're guaranteed a good grade in the class. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot.
Horrible teaching, acts like she is learning everything for the first time. Very scatter-brained and unprepared for class.
Debbie exemplifies what it means to be a college professor. While not always punctunal, who is??, she teaches with enthusiasm, is clear in her guidelines and expectations, is available to speak to and is prompt with grading and feedback. Follow her notes and be willing to do the work and you'll do just fine. She's awesome!
Debbie is a great teacher, very personable and easy to listen to. She has a great sense of humor and as long as you get the notes copied from the library you will be soaring through the class.
Debbie is a good teacher.... yes maybe a little scatter brained especially when she is watching her grandson in class!! But she it interesting and truly wants to see her students succeed..... I would recoment her to anyone
Very scatter minded. No clarity or coherence in lectures. No actual teaching going on, she's mainly just talking about random things that don't even follow.

Youll pass if you are good at learning on your own. Going to class is pointless. Scatter brain city!!
Great professor, i loved coming to class. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot. The homework was not very hard at all and she is a pretty easy grader. I highly reccomend her to anyone needing to get their biology credits.
There is a lot of information covered on the tests, however, she gives you EXACTLY what you need to know beforehand to study. She is hilarious, and keeps your interest in class. Yes, scattered at times, but she makes the subject enjoyable. One of the most fair profs I've ever had. She is picky, but only when she gives you guidelines to follow.
Good professor! Great personalitiy! It was a fun course, always lecture. She puts her entire lecture outline on the web so if you miss a day you are still ok! Lectures exactly from the outline. But she has a lot of personality...a bit spacy though...
The best way to do well in this class is to simply memorize the notes she gives you. Classes are beyond frusterating- she goes WAY off subject! She's really nice and funny... but a bit of a scatterbrain.
Do NOT take this professor. Class is pointless - She literally puts on the overhead and hand-writes the notes she has posted on her website verbatim. She is off track all the time and loves the sound of her own voice. Her personal politics is discussed more in depth than biology. Her class is a DISASTER.
Easy A if you turn in all work. There are extra credit opportunities as well. Prof was helpful overall, and allowed late work. Yes, she does go off subject, and she is a bit of a wingnut, but in a good way. Tests were packed, but her study guides have all the answers so study them. The class is more writing intensive than you might expect.
She's a very sweet lady. Use the study guides and notes that she hands out and you will definitely do well in her class!
This lady is completely unorganized, but it really works in the students favor. There is no penalty on late work, as she doesn't really have due dates to begin with. She passes out comprehensive study guides before tests and goes over everything beforehand. As long as you study the notes she gives, tests shouldn't be a problem. Homework isn't d
On the one hand I really like this lady, on the other hand she is extremely unorganized and difficult to learn from. You will get an A if you: go to class, study for 2 days before tests, TALK to her. She will: be late, grade slow, let u turn things in late, help you. Learned a lot about what a sad state the earth is in ecologically. Speak up!
I like Debbie a lot as a person, but she's really disorganized. I almost never went to class and still got a good grade. She puts everything she goes over online, so if you just study that the night before a test you'll be fine.
I liked her class; however, I sometimes felt as though she did not want to be there. She would answer questions, but I was still confused. Her notes are repetative. She is a nice lady, but I dont feel I learned anything in her class.
Debbie is kind of scatterbrained, but she really knows what she's talking about and is interesting. Attendance isn't mandatory, or really necessary for that matter. There isn't a lot of homework, and the study guides and notes for the tests are all online. The tests weren't hard. I REALLY RECOMMEND HER. Honestly, I've taken two classes with her and
easy A, but i came in w/ an interesting in env. studies and left w/ an A and zero knowledge.Every seat filled on test day but on all other days 5 people max showed up. Debra isn't mean, exactly, but she has no interest. When i tried to talk to her its like shes looking through u and NEVER answers emails and she'll lose ur paper
So Debbie seems nice and all, but when it comes down to it, her lectures where ridiculous. I felt like she expected you to already know what she was talking about (this was the intro. class). Att. not mandatory, and there really is no point in going. It will confuse you more
Debbie is really nice. I don't think a lot a her students take into account how much attending class is important for her class. You need to be there so she can explain the notes. And if you have a question she's always happy to answer it. It's awesome that she types up her notes for you and gives you the powerpoint, VERY helpful. Great teacher.
I loved takin debbie's class! she is always crakin corny jokes and talks about politics, but hey, it was an easy class, AND i learned alot. she is usually late to class, but if you dont mind hangin with ur classmates...I took the class over a year ago, and she still remembers me-even tho I rarely talked in class.Irecommend! slight texan accent..hah
The class was fairly easy. Did NOT appreciate the constant shoving of her political beliefs down our throats. All the bonus ?'s on the exams were political based. Don't need the txt book at all!! Need to be in class everyday, but don't learn much from lecture. Knows her stuff and helps when she's not busy txting on her cell phone.
Even tough the class was easy I learned a lot! Debra is funny and helps a lot especially with lab reports. Exams are based on her notes. If you want take her class do not buy a book!!! You will not use it at all.
Great class. She is very enthusiastic and very engaging to her student. I would take her again.
Way cool teacher. always there to help out. lab was way cool too. There is a lot of writing but she gives you many chances to fix your work.
Everything is based off the notes. Study those and you will get an A. Didn't really learn much the whole quarter because of all the memorizing again and again. Some of her stories are funny, other times you just want to tell her to shut up haha.
This was an easy class as long as you paid attention and completed the assignments. Debbie was so willing to help out and answer questions. And the class was fun! The textbook was not used though, so I wouldn't recommend buying it.
Took her for the Biology majors series. She is so sweet & always willing to help. Come to class & pay attention to her lecture and you should do very well in the class. All her exams are based off of her notes, she doesn't try to trick you. Very generous with extra credit. Great teacher.
Any actual learning you have to do on your own. She puts all the notes online, and if you want to gain any knowledge, you have to read them on your own time because she spends the whole class running off on random tangents about her personal life. She never tells you when things are due, is very disorganized, and will probably lose your papers.
She will lose your paper, doesn't keep up with tests, doesn't have notes and powerpoints done on time, is late to class, and is generally very disorganized. She's a sweet person but NOT a good professor.
study her notes, all of her tests are based on notes. i didn`t learn that much that quarter, because all we did was memorizing bunch of stuff.she is a really nice person. i recommend taking her class instead of other teacher, her class is easier.
Great teacher. Very nice and helpful! Save yourself some money and don't buy the book since exams are off her notes.
For someone with a PhD Debbie knows very little of what she is presenting. Other than an impeccable ability to read from power point paragraphs, she shows up to class late, loses papers and deflects inability to explain topics toward class mates.
Debbie is a great teacher! She always comes in with a smile on her face, which is really refreshing. She is extremely passionate about what she teaches. Her class is excellent preparation for med school because there is tons of memorization for tests. She makes you find answers yourself, which is what you would have to do in the real world anyway.
Liked the teacher. Very passionate and knowledgable about her subject however some things were frustrating. I was a student that had almost perfect attendance and she would repeat the same thing almost daily for those students who hadn't shown up. It is their problem if they miss important memos or due dates. Also very easily side tracked.
Debbie is VERY opinionated and only teaches one side of the story. In class I hear nothing but how our world is turning to crap because we are ruining the environment. She never teaches what will be on the tests, it's up to you to figure that out. Definitely wouldn't recommend this class.
Debbie is a crazy lady and very scatterbrained, but luckily her easy class makes up for it all. She is loud and loves what she does. I HIGHLY recommend the lab/hybrid online class. Instead of a couple midterms, you have easier quizzes every week instead. Labs are pretty fun, but she talks alot, gives too much direction and gets sidetracked. Easy A!
Debbie is great. Yes, she can be scattered and go on tangents during lecture. I have had her for two classes and her organization has improved (she takes these comments seriously). I like her because you know exactly what she expects from you. It is an "easy" A IF you do everything asked of you, keep up with your work, and take it seriously!
Fun class. I wasn't interested in taking environmental science, only as a requirement, but I am really interested in it now. Most of the class is from powerpoint notes, which are online, so going to class isn't necessary everyday, though I would recommend it, and she does take attendance. DON'T BUY THE BOOK. She doesn't make you.
Debbie is a sweetheart, but she is incredibly disorganized and doesn't stay on topic. The material presented doesn't match up with the material on the tests. It's a good thing I came into class with previous knowledge of biology - if I hadn't, I'd be so lost right now. Feel like I haven't learned one single new thing this quarter.
Worst teacher I've had at WCC by far, that's the truth. Disorganized, does not get things done on time, confusing, unclear, rarely fully understand assignments and projects. Group presantations ok, depending who your group members are. Had to ask many questions about every assigment. Would not suggest her class or her as a teacher, trust me.
Lectures are often interrupted by random rants that have nothing to do with the topic and lack any support or sources. (Ex, a 30 minute rant against eating meatwhile studying photosynthesis). Any opposition to her point of view is shot down with no regard for other standings. I like biology but this wasn't a scientific classmore like a debate.
Debbie is very sweet. She is clear about her expectations and her test study guides are useful. She's a bit scattered sometimes but it's not horrible it gives her a spunkiness to her lectures. She's not boring and she's empathetic in situations that is it needed. Homework is clear and concise but her tests are a bit hard. I LIKED debbie alot!
Her priorities seem to lie in her more advanced classes. The tests are two parts: 1) The multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank and short answer, and 2) group answer, which is outside of class time. Also, Gasland II, while extremely important to watch and very informative, is EXTREMELY DEPRESSING. Overall, however, this was a good class.
You have to learn almost everything on your own, she has powerpoints online on canvas, but doesnt teach them very well. Just study for the tests. She requires volunteering outside of class. Not my favorite, but you can wing it through.
Debbie's class was so much fun! She really works to make sure everyone has the opportunity to be successful and she's very funny. It's obvious that she's very passionate about what she's teaching and she's very relatable which makes her easy to talk to. I would definitely recommend this class!
Powerpoint-based lectures go by pretty quickly so make sure you have read the chapter first. Fairly lenient grader, with extra credit opportunities. Quizzes were graded immediately following the quiz so we could contest answers and have an idea how we did. Sometimes extra credit questions come from in-class comments or current science news.
Debbie is an amazing teacher. She is super into what she is teaching, which I find inspirational. She is super funny which keeps you awake during content heavy lectures. She explains labs well, you never go into lab not knowing 100% what your doing. Not only is debbie an amazing teacher, but she really cares. She doesn't cheat you on tests either.
Lecture heavy class, not much in class group work, although there are multiple group assignments that require time outside of class (mandatory community service). Exams were easy as long as you paid attention in class. She tends to drone on when giving lectures, and is not particularly interesting. Overall decent course, still learned a lot
Debbie is great! I've never done very well in science classes but took her Microbiology class and absolutely loved it. I took a hybrid class so all her lectures were online and we just went in for lab. One tip would be to change the speed on the lectures as she talks kind of slow :) She's amazing, I highly recommend her. Makes class interesting.
This was a hybrid course. Debbie is an excellent professor. Avail via online and regular office hours. Use study guides for quizzes and you'll get an A on your tests. Allows you to turn in rough drafts for papers to improve your grade. The papers are graded tough, so turn in your rough draft to get some feedback.
Debra was a sweet professor, but everything was a bit unorganized throughout the course. It was confusing because the information was scattered and it was confusing when a new topic would start. The tests were pretty hard, but if many people got the same answer wrong, she would give everyone those points.
I love this professor! I took biology with her and I was so scared I wasn't going to pass because I'd never taken biology before. I ended up getting over 100% in the class. She made sure the material was well understood before testing everyone on it and she curved grades. She'll also explain things many different ways until you get it.
Debbie gives really thorough lectures but if you space out for half a second you'll be playing catch-up all day. She doesn't allow questions during her lectures and you're never allowed to converse with your table mates for clarification so good luck absorbing all the information. My best advice is to always read ahead and share notes for lectures.
I loved Debbie's class! She made micro fun and interesting. I highly recommend her hybrid class that takes place every Saturday. If you are a student who is on top of your schoolwork and studies, you should do well. ONLY study her notes and study guides for the weekly quizzes. Hardly used the textbook. Loved Micro and this class!
Service learning is required outside of class, but it was a good opportunity to help out in the community and get to know classmates better. The tests are based on the notes and lectures which are pretty easy to understand.
Most unorganized person I have ever encountered. Expectations were not made clear. Disappears during labs to converse with colleagues. If many people miss a question on her weekly quizzes she will discard the question. But quiz questions aren't even looked over until after she gives out the quiz.
She is a great prof but not organized at all, everything is all over the place, lab are pointless.
Debra made this class really cool and interesting.
Debbie was unorganized and unprepared for class regularly. Often asking us when the next test or paper is due. Graded papers on unreasonable standards. Standards that were unclear. Didn't believe in 100%s. Expressed her own unsolicited political views and made notice to the class when student did wrong often. This character count isn't long enough.
Debbie is a nice person but she was extremely unorganized and scatterbrained and would often go off topic during lectures talking mostly about politics and personal issues. She also would lose exams and papers, such as losing our third exam and thinking it was okay to just grade it as a B- for everyone. This was an incredibly frustrating class.
Her tests are easy as long as you study the notes and powerpoint notes and you should get easy A. She is great prof know her information well.
She never prepare for class. Like the homework she assigned to us, it often missing some important information. Plus, her test question, there a lot of question she barely talked about it once.
She is a good professor. Tests are challenging sometimes, because some of the wording of the questions can be difficult to understand. Get ready to review the exam and power slides, the exams are heavy content. I suggest preparing the study guides weeks before the exam. Good luck!
Debbie is unorganized; her lectures are confusing and she frequently goes off on unrelated tangents that last far too long; and she constantly has to talk about her own political views, none of which belong in the classroom. I used Google and YouTube to pass this class, and only came to class because she took attendance and gave points for it.
Debbie is a wonderful person, really passionate and knowledgable about her subject. However, she is VERY disorganized. Every day is a lecture, but then the exams cover more than what she talked about so you have to teach yourself extra stuff. Switching to online-only because of the Covid19 shutdown was a nightmare.
Debbie is pretty disorganized and for being an online class, she assigns a pretty heavy work load every week. There are 2 labs we had to set up at home with our lab kits & she places you into groups with other people. Being an online class, I had a lot of trouble with my groups and when I constantly asked, I received no helpful feedback from her.
Debra assigns a pretty heavy work-load weekly, but as long as you organize your time wisely, and make sure to stay ahead on study guides, notes, lectures and read the text, this class and her teaching should not be a problem. She wasnt very present for personal lecture, but organized the curriculum in an decent manner. Could be more organized.
This is the 2nd class ive taken with Debbie and I really dont like the way she has everything set up. Workload consists of lab simulations, discussions, and weekly quizzes. Everything is very disorganized and along with that, her instructions for assignments can be very unclear. Multiple times I sent her emails, and she never responded to them.
Her hybrid class was not well organized on Canvas and most of the labs were little more than busy work. Fortunately, she's very lenient with grading, but when mixed with the insane course load she assigns it feels most of your role in the course is managing what is and is not acceptable to do.
Debbie is a super kind human that really wants students to learn. She is incredibly disorganized, lectures are kinda all over the place, and you cover a huge amount of material (with little assistance) in a short time. Very responsive, will let you pick nearly any research project you want, but might loose your paper.
shes an interesting person but she is incredibly disorganized. lectures are a bit of a mess and her weekly quizzes feels like weekly final exams. attendance is also mandatory.
Debbie has no idea how technology works, although the entirety of our lectures were online. If you ask her a question she likely say random stuff for 3 minutes and answer a bunch of questions you didn't ask, all while ignoring your initial question. She is also extremely disorganized and makes you read 2-3 chapters a week for quizzes.
This is the single most unorganized professor I have ever had. She does not plan ahead and rambles during her lectures, there is little to no CORRECT instruction. She's a good person but she should not be in a teaching environment. Tests weekly, study guides frequently wrong or unfinished.
Debbie has clear expectations and grades quickly, but she is disorganized and wastes a lot of time which made me feel like I was wasting my time being in class. For the dissections we did she didn't give any instruction and told us to look up directions online. My frustration with her teaching made me lose interest in the class despite loving bio.
Here's what to expect if you take a class from Debbie(in addition to her disjointed class structure in all the other low reviews):She will say "If you don't understand my teaching style you should have taken a different instructor", She yells at a student who have come forward with a disability, mocks, and expose students with low grades.Good luck.
Debbie is rude and disorganized. She will talk about her own political stance, and ramble for hours. If you ask her a question, her response wont many ANY sense. She will single out, laugh at, and sometimes yell at her students. Her study guides are long, don't make sense, and the quizzes will have random questions. Don't take if you want to learn.
Save yourself headache, anger, and tears. This class will drive you mad with the disorganized class material and the vague questions asked on each quiz and study guide. YOU WILL TEACH YOURSELF THIS MATERIAL. She had no direction for us on our Coleus experiment and it was a total flop. Make sure you don't take another tough class with this one.
The classes were really boring and we never learned anything. The class got to dissect some things and Debbie told us to just search it up. She will randomly walk out of the classroom and disappear for long periods of time. She wont put out the incredibly long study guides until a day or two before. It's scary to talk to her because she might freak
ughhhh I agree with these other terrible reviews. She's an atrocious woman! Not only do you have to break your brain on studying for a quiz that has multiple choice, T or F, fill in the blank, and two long answers but you have to do an online second part which is normally a long answer or two. This class has a lot of unnecessary work.. RIP
Overall, super disorganized to the point of frustration. My main complaint is with how the canvas page and modules are organized. Her tests are kind of intimidating. Her notes seem helpful, but usually require further studying from the $160 textbook that required for the series of classes (Bio 221-223), that she doesn't use at all.
She randomly leaves the room, does not answer questions, and she gets defensive and snappy when you politely question her. She did not teach what she put on the quizzes. The class topics are easy to understand, but her grading is too picky. I hate this class. 0/10
If you stay on top of the weekly activities, earning an A in this class should be quite achievable. Each week, the class includes 2 group discussions, 1 regular quiz, and 1 short essay quiz. However, the instructor allows you to miss up to 3 activities, 2 regular quizzes, and 2 short essay quizzes.
I dropped this class and transferred colleges entirely because this teacher is so insufficient. She discusses nothing that goes on the quizzes in class. It's not that it's a hard class, it's that it's impossible since she makes no attempt to teach the required material. She is also very unprofessional; it's embarrassing.
I would have really enjoyed this class if
I would have really enjoyed this class if it wasn't for Debbie. She uses AI to make her homework assignments and doesn't even know the answers, yells at students who ask questions, and is an EXTREMELY picky grader. She takes off points on the smallest grammar errors but has terrible grammar herself. You can't ask a question without being ridiculed.
Talks nonstop without saying anything or teaching anything.
Microbio is such a cool subject, a shame Debbie is the one teaching it. AI-generated assignments, docks points for small grammar mistakes despite having awful grammar herself, talks about nonsense for at least the first half hour of class, grades hard on unclear expectations. Fun labs, be ready to dig for info she won't provide to get A's on exams.
