Explains the information very clearly and easily. She uses a lot of videos and pictures for those who are visual learners.
Did not like this class, wouldn't recommend
Worst class I've taken here in 3 1/2 years. Professor Law is a nice lady and a pretty good teacher, but the way they grade is extremely tough, especially for a class every student HAS to take. Even if you try your best and study hard, don't be surprised if you end up with a bad grade. Only 3 exams and a project made up the grade.
History is already going to be a tough course at Texas State but she makes it bearable. The tests are pretty tough but that's expected. You'll need to read the books to pass the tests and go to class because she only allows 3 absences. She's really helpful if you go to her or the TA. I'm taking again for 1320 so shes not that bad.
She really gets excited by history, and nobody else is. She wants you to read the most boring articles anyone can find. For a project, she gave us a criteria, that didnt match with how she graded. ALL HER TESTS ARE ESSAYS, where if you want to speak on what you felt about history, you will fail. So just write how she wants, and you might pass.
Dr. Law was a good teacher. You have 2 midterms and a final which is not accumulative. You also have one culminating essay. Her tests are part multiple choice, part short answer and one essay. If you have MW or TT you do lecture one day then primary source class discussions the next. Everyday you have one quiz question which is extra cred at end oS
Law is extremely passionate about history, but I think her TA had unrealistic expectations while grading. However her SI's sessions outside of class really helped me, so take advantage of your resources! Read. If there's one thing you absolutely need to do, it's to read everything she tells you to. Her exams focus mainly on the readings.
So, she does a quiz everyday over reading we're supposed to do, but she gives you an online study quiz so it's easy if you use that. participation is a very big part of this class. her tests are mainly essays with a few multiple choice questions. She focuses on main ideas instead of nitty gritty. Overall it was an okay class.
Her class was somewhat hard. She does a quiz everyday over the stuff you were supposed to read. Her tests are hard. Although, she makes the class better by being passionate about history. There is a lot of reading involved!!
Dr. Law is an incredible teacher with amazing work ethics. 3 tests with multiple choice, ID matching and essay. A 5 page essay is assigned through the semester. She is a fair grader and has a big heart to help students. She is amazing. You will only fail if you don't care.
Super nice, very helpful, daily quizzes are a pain in the ass and pretty difficult. A couple papers and tests too, not a class you can just show up to without work. She can go on for a little while, so unless you're fascinated w/ the subject you might get bored sometimes.
Not a bad class coming from someone who's life does not revolve around school. Very Helpful instructor who cares about you. 1 Culm. essay. 2 Tests. 1 Final and daily 1 ? Quiz. Long lectures and discussion days over book readings. Tests are 20 multi. and 2 essays. Put in effort and you will be fine!
Dr. Law does give pop quizzes that count as attendance. They're usually about what you were assigned to read. You will have to choose two readings to present to the class. The reading discussions are very laid back and quite informative. If you're struggling w/ your grade, doing well on the essay does help. She gives good feedback on the tests.
I enjoyed her class as a whole, however one of the largest projects for the semester she made due during Thanksgiving break. You have to beware of deadlines, large projects and writing based assignments. She has two large projects due during the semester that can make or break your grade. She offers lots of extra credit though!
Dr. Law has a different way of teach which is actually pretty refreshing for a History class. Her lectures are a bit length and can at times be tedious, but still interesting lectures. Doesn't do testes just pop quizzes and a few major assignment (creative topics). Show that you've put the effort in and she'll notice. I got a lot out of the course
I love that Dr. Law doesn't take flack from students, but she's not mean either. She's extremely friendly but stays on task in class. The only issue I have with the course is the timeline. She goes by groups of people, as well as events, but not just in linear time, which was extremely confusing for me. Lots of projects and some group work.
Dr. Law was an amazing professor. This was my first History class at Texas State and I'm so happy I had her. She does't take crap from students and actually makes you really dig into the history, not just memorize dates. The one thing is that theres only a few major projects to get a good grade. Loved taking her and would recommend to anyone!
Prof takes attendance each day and often gave pop quizzes. There were only a couple of major grades (papers) and the final and that was it. If writing is your strong suit this will be an easy class for you. Dr. Law was very nice and helpful!
Two words: Extra Credit, there's a ton! Go to class every day (she adds 3 points to your final grade for perfect attendance) and go to as many events as possible. I am not ecstatic when it comes to history, but she does her best to make it interesting for everyone. Also, she is willing to meet after class which was awesome! Don't expect a cakewalk
Dr. Law is an amazing professor. She is passionate about what she teaches and gives great lectures. I suggest doing the readings, I think if I had I would have gone up a letter grade. There are pop quizes about the readings. Attendance is mandatory, if it's perfect you get extra credit. Three major projects and only one test(the final).
Professor Law is very passionate about history and has very interesting lectures. She is funny but also takes controversial topics seriously when lecturing. Attendance is highly suggested. Try to pay attention and keep up with readings. There will be essays and projects to do. Her essay exams are hard. LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT. Good Luck!
Dr. Law is such a passionate professor! I am in no way a history person and it has always been a class that i struggle in, but Dr. Law makes it so interesting and relatable. There's a few major projects and the only test is the final; all of these she immensely prepares you for. and she gives a TON of extra credit! i would definitely take her again
There is only one test and it's the final. She has 3 big projects that are worth 20% of your grade each. She gives you all the resources in the world and is available all the time but if you don't pay attention to the syllabus, due dates will sneak up on you. She gives TONS of extra credit though. Up to 3 things a week depending on whats going on
She is an amazing Professor and i strongly recommend her. She used to be a high school teacher so her papers and class assignments are similar to that. Attendance isn't required but she awards you for coming to class everyday. There is only one exam which is a final and 3 papers throughout the course. Also pop quizzes are given so reading is a must
If you are a bad test taker you will be relieved that she is more project based than anything else! Also many extra credit opportunities!
Class was writing based. 3 essays. Daily readings, daily "1 question quiz." Took attendance via 1QQ and graders took attendance as well. Lectures were history based, essays were ethics based. Weekly content quizes, usually over the reading or key points she emphasises.
I'm going to be 100% honest. Dr. Law is a great professor(educated) but this is one of the hardest courses I have taken in my college career. it's time consuming. She takes this course WAY too seriously for a basic. Daily readings are short(BEST), 1 question quiz each class over readings(skewed to make you miss) and WRITING INTENSIVE--- TAKE @ ACC!
Law is very passionate about History and will make you work for the grades you get. She is a tough grader, but compensates with a lot of extra credit opportunities. Her papers are specific and have rigid grading structures but she provides yo with all the resources you need. I wouldn't take her again but thats because I just don't have time for it.
Professor Law is awesome. She's lecture heavy but she makes it interesting and there aren't any tests for this class. Just a few papers, some content quizzes and a one question quiz (1QQ) at the beginning of each class to be sure you've read (the readings she assigns are pretty short too). Loved her class!
For someone who is not a history major I highly enjoyed this class. Dr. Law is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She genuinely cares about her students understanding the material and is always available outside of class, no in class test but 3 major writing assignments and some quizzes. TONS of extra credit, I highly recommend her
Be prepare to read the book. We started class with a 1QQ and attendance is mandatory! but She does give A LOT of extra credit opportunities. Her content quizzes are bit a difficult but thats only if you dont pay attention in class or doing the reading. Overall she wasnt too bad, but she was a bit difficult especially if youre not a hist major
Dr. Law is my favorite professor so far as TXST! She provided everything necessary to not only pass but also do well. I felt as though she put my needs above her own and she made this class interesting. I'd DEFINITELY recommend! Also--read the book and pay attention and you'll do great!
Certainly a challenging professor. Maintains high expectations, but is by no means uncaring. Really wants her student's to succeed, just expects you to work for it.
Avoid at all cost. Blatantly outright about her political beliefs and treats the FRESHMAN level 1320 class like a upper level English/psychology course. Do yourself a favor and dont ever step inside that classroom.
1320: Assigned a lot of work but gives elaborate guidelines to follow. If you follow those guidelines, you will receive a good grade. Content quizzes are difficult but she offers 2 letter grades worth of extra credit so just stay on top of your work. Each class starts with a 1QQ about the readings that were assigned as homework the night before.
Dr. Law a fine professor and she definitely care about her subject, but that doesnt make her lectures any less droning and boring. Reading for this class are very important. Also be ready for her to complain about someone/something 5 times a lecture because shes one of those that treats cellphones and computers like were naughty children
She was a HS teacher and you can tell. She passes out busy work as a college professor that doesn't even get graded. You write 3 lengthy essays over the semester but attend lecture strictly for preparation of the final exam. If you're a procrastinator do not take this class, you have to turn in rough drafts weeks before due date.
She is a tough teacher, and some classroom behavioral guidelines changed multiple times during the semester. She will get very mad about phone usage, and relies heavily on textbook readings for daily quiz questions. If you're planning on taking a non-major history class, take it at a community college, not here.
There is so much work in this class. You have to watch "short videos" for one question quizzes once a week in class but each video is always at least an hour long. She's a tough grader and each test is an essay test plus an out of class multiple choice test (which is easy if you have the ppt's pulled up). Research paper has to be at least 8 pages.
Nice teacher, cares a lot about the student, essays are heavy but its better then normal tests, a lot of help available and expectations are very clear
This class is overwhelming on an easy day, so if you're organized you should be fine. She is okay with explaining her assignments, but she can get wordy and difficult to understand. She gives lots of papers with difficult requirements. She lets the TA's roam the classroom and it's distracting. She doesn't give traditional tests. VERY Late grader.
I genuinely can't express enough how much you need to register for another class, professor, or just completely drop the class until next registration period. This professor said from day one that she was a HS teacher, and boy was she right. You will never get grades on time, and the atmosphere of the lecture room is that of a funeral home. Avoid.
Dr. Law definitely cares a lot about her subject and her students. She will make time for you and help you as much as possible. But her class sucks. Im constantly confused by what I'm supposed to be doing Bc there is like a million and one assignments going on at once. Her lectures are beyond boring, and I don't think I actually learned anything.
This class became one of my favorites on the schedule due to the quality of the professor. She is responsive to class concerns, genuinely cares that you do well, and is always available to help. She requires that you come to class and do work previous to class. She offers a TON of extra credit. I appreciate her attention to detail.
Professor Law is the greatest professor I have ever had. She makes you work hard but she genuinely cares for her students. Words cannot explain everything she has done for me.
First semester back after dropping out years ago in addition to constantly being sick over the semester this class was a challenge for me. Prof Law will help you if you communicate any challenges and see her in office hours, her expectations are clear and gives great feedback, and has lots of extra credit opportunities, but you have to work hard.
If you don't come to class, you will not pass!! She is a very tough grade but gives good feedback!!
Hands down the most filler work I've ever done in my life. She will expect you to complete a 17 page outline for a paper that will be 6 pages max. So the difficulty of the class doesn't stem from the subject it comes from the inefficiency of the professor. The schedule and due dates are confusing and she explains things too specifically. Skip.
Easily the hardest class I've taken and the one I've liked the least. Her lectures were fine, but we had so many discussion days just basically doing her job for her (we talk about readings while she just keeps track to see if everyone's said something.) She also takes so long to put in grades even though there's only 4 assignments the whole term
Very heavy workload. She grades extremely hard on essays. She never finishes her lectures in the time frame of class. Slow on grading. Her class was honestly the worst experience i have ever had. She is a perfectionist. Do not enroll in her class. Please save your coin.
Her class was honestly the worst experience i have ever had. She is a perfectionist. Do not enroll in her class. Please save your coin.
The worst professor I've had to date. She will make you watch 1-2 hours of videos just for a 1 question quiz at the start of class. She is a ridiculously hard grader when it comes to essays, she'll tell you that you did a good job analyzing things and then only give you half credit because she felt it should be improved. Save your money DONT ENROLL
Simply the worst class I've taken and simply the worst professor. Graded by four assignments, 3 of which are essays (shortest was 6 pages min.); takes over a month to get grades. Hypercritical grader( held my grade basically hostage by refusing to put my grade until I fixed a tiny minuscule detail, as opposed to deducting.) SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GPA.
She is a great source of information and really does want to make you succeed in her class. Get through the handholding first few weeks and it gets much better. Long lectures but she tells you everything you need to know.
She is an amazing person, but sometimes it just doesnt seem like shes cut out for teaching. She is more than willing to meet and talk 1 on 1, but youll most likely have to meet her regardless for grade clarification since shes a hypercritical grader. Also theres way more student discussion days than lectures taught by her. Overall 6/10 class.
When I took her class I was scared about the bad reviews but I LOVED her class, she often assigns documentaries instead of reading which makes it so much more exciting. Her class requires pretty long essays but she gives great feedback. ALWAYS do the readings and ALWAYS come to class, she gives extra credit randomly for just showing up!
As long as you dont slack off you realize the way she describes stuff in lecture makes it SO easy to understand, you dont have to memorize anything just do the work and youll be fine. If youre a student that puts in 0 effort dont take her class because she is SO sweet let the hardworkers fill up the seats for this class. LOVED her class!!!!!!!
Im not going to say that its an easy class, because it isnt. Its time consuming. What I can tell you is that she is dedicated and accesible. Her essays are very LONG but shell give you many resources indicating exactly what she wants and how she wants it. You don't have to memorize anything, but be willing to analyze and work hard.
Dr. Law is amazing but her classes are not for everyone. From the very beginning shell warn you that her class is not for procrastinators, so If you are looking for an easy class, she is not for you. She grades with essays and discussions based on documentaries and readings. If you are willing to dedicate time to her class, she is your best option
Very kind person and is absolutely willing to work with you on papers. Although grading does take time, she will keep you updated if you talk to her. Best advice is to communicate with her regularly. But I thought she was awesome!
shes very sweet, but you must do all the readings before class or you will fail. not too many grades so you must do well on presentation and research paper.
She has amazing lectures. Shell have the class read from the textbook or watch a video for homework and give a small quiz. videos are either 30 min long or an hour long.
Save your time and avoid this teacher. I am now having to retake this course because I had an A all year and the week of finals, she gave me a 0 for an essay I did complete (but not to her liking). She's an extremely tough grader. She has also very high expectations and unreasonable requirements for her essays. You could find an easier professor.
Overall, Dr. Law is a great professor. She expects you to participate and lead at least one discussion and do a few papers. If you're not willing to put in the work and learn, I wouldn't suggest taking it. Only 1 textbook required and it's pretty cheap! She's very helpful in class and during office hours. Definitely would take her again!!!
She gives busy work - 90 minute videos to watch with guided questions (that end up being 12 pages of notes) every class just for one question each class. Her lectures go over the videos we watch, so its pointless to give the king videos for hw. Its general topics that we arent able to take notes on. Dont take her class at all!!
She does not teach anything you actually need. This class is much more than the actual class days you are pretty much required to go to all office hours and there is one session a week that is actually required. This is a Monday- Friday class no matter what your schedule actually says. She is the worst teacher I have ever had or experienced.
You have to put in the effort to do well in her class, but Dr. Law is extremely helpful and responsive. She is very specific and organized, which helps you succeed in her assignments. Email her or visit office hours if youre struggling and she will definitely help you out.
I understand that it being a history class, there would be a lot of writing, but 3/4 of your assignments are essays. She is an INSANELY tough grader. She is the type to act like she is being very helpful, but in reality she is very confusing and contradicts herself a LOT. She makes it insanely hard to pass and wastes your time as a student.
Professor Law's class was one of my favorites despite the difficulty. She's extremely fair and gives good feedback, so even though she's a tough grader you'll know exactly what you need to fix. Theres plenty of extra credit offered if you do poorly on something, and shes usually available for office hours twice a week.
If you hate doing essays like me then do NOT take this class. Shes nice and I was doing great in the class until the 8-12 page essay then I was done. There was another essay after that which I believe was 5 pages? But nonetheless was not for me. She is sweet and will give you feed back.
While Dr Law is very knowledgable she is just not good at teaching. Her lectures are incredibly difficult to follow because she speaks so poorly that its difficult to understand what shes even saying or talking about. She also assigns 20+ page readings to for every class. This prof is so much work do not take her, save your time and GPA.
Do not take this prof, Ive literally never had such a bad class my whole degree. Her lectures are super confusing. She doesnt even lecture on the sheduled lecture days and replaces them with pointless class discussions. I got about 1/4 of the lectures she put on the syllabus. I worked like a dog, learned nothing and didnt even get a good grade .
hated the class. Makes you pay for a faulty app subscription that has required questions every lecture. Also included an SI sessions outside of classtime on their own times. If you don't make class or the SI sessions you get 0s. Really confusing lectures and doesn't allow groupme so your in the dark most of the time. Papers are long and confusing.
Her essays are graded tougher than an English teacher, and most of the class still hasnt gotten any feedback on our work despite it being the week of finals, so were going into our last essay blind with no idea what how she grades real papers. The extra hour outside class (MANDATORY) sessions dont give you any extra credit either.
Shes a very nice person but her class is so hard. Expect 1-2 documentaries + reading with 15+ guided questions for EACH assignment for EVERY class with a 1 question pop quiz on something you read/watched. Very tough grader on the essays and the essays are pretty hard. Too much homework, hard grader and I struggled to get through the class
She is very knowledgeable and helpful, but is an extremely tough grader. You really have to work for your grade in this class and I struggled a lot through it. Shell help if you ask for it but in general, lots of work and very heavily discussion based. Lectures are okay but Id just save my time and GPA and go with someone else.
Dr. Law is a great professor and is probably the most knowledgeable history professor Ive ever had, not just in history but in writing techniques and analysis. If you are a natural writer, Dr. Law will fine tune your writing to perfection! She is not easy on lazy students, and she warned of this during the first week. If you work hard, take her.
I loved this class! It was a lot of work, but I enjoyed doing it! This class is based on essays, but she makes it clear what exactly she wants. She is very caring and tries to help all of her students get the best grade they can. I dont really like history, but this class changed my mind. I would definitely take her again!
Worst prof Ive ever taken. Shes asking you to read at least an hour before each class. Her lectures are incredibly hard to follow. She is a terrible lecturer, I could never understand what she was saying or what she was talking about. I worked myself to the teeth and didnt learn a thing. She grades ridiculously hard on essays. SAVE YOURSELF!!!
I had taken a class before but WOW... This was different so much info for research papers gets you confused. Takes forever to grade papers. Few things are graded, put your effort on square cap. SI meetings are "mandatory" which can affect your grade. DO EXTRA CREDIT.
By far the toughest professor I have encountered. She gives so much info that she expects you to retain. She required SI meeting apart from regular class hours and does not take into account that people have jobs and may have a full time school schedule. Fails you on papers despite how hard you worked on them and is a slow grader. BEWARE
Horrible at grading in a timely manner. She expects you to be accommodating for her absences and lack of quick grading, had a B for the semester up until finals week and my grade dropped to an F and wanted me to fix a paper during finals week, when her class had a final paper and after many emails back and forth ended up with a D on the paper. SKIP
Worst professor I've had in my 4 years at TXST. She does not actually teach, a student is assigned to teach every lesson for a grade in which participation is mandatory. She does not grade anything all year then has a research project and a 8 page synthesis essay due the last two weeks of class. She's nice but horrible at her job. Save your money.
DO NOT TAKE HER. For the love of GOD take someone else. I already know I won't pass. Assigns so much videos and readings before the actual class and is an insanely tough grader. This feels like a graduate class. Save your GPA and take somsone else.
She makes you do the entire course by yourself and her material has been set by only videos that we are required to watch, and then are graded on. We have spent the last three weeks going what our essays should include in 200 level class. There's only one grade put in the grade book and it's October. Seems like a good person but she is a bad prof.
We've spent the past few weeks of class going over how to write an essay in order to meet her incredibly high standards. The essay seems more appropriate for a graduate-level course. Because many people have failed her class in the past, she requires mandatory SI sessions led by a know-it-all who makes it clear that she thinks she's better than us.
I love Dr. Law!! She had mandatory SI sessions which were super helpful. I honestly think my SI helped me get an A in this class. She was literally amazing and gave tons of tips and tricks for how to be successful in this course :)
Honestly, she is super nice and as long as you try you will pass, however this class is not flexible for people who are in extracurricular activities or have part-time jobs outside of work. There are mandatory videos and readings that you have to read and watch if you want to succeed in this class. This class is very difficult and it will test you.
Absolutely awful. Has taken forever to grade papers (upwards of almost two months in my class's case this year), has boring and confusing lectures, and expects the students, who are already presumably swamped with work in and out of school, to teach on certain topics as a required grade. Don't waste your time with her and find someone else.
She's bad at teaching lectures about things not on topic, doesn't give any test just essay after essay and grades hard, doesn't even allow partial credit for something.
Although it is a lot of work if you put in an effort your grade will show. I was honestly terrified of this class, but she provided a lot of extra credit opportunities and if you reach out she is very helpful. Although she did take a while with grading, she was understanding and provided extensions. I will say the 1qq's gave me anxiety.
She was a nice professor when the semester started but as the class went on, she started dumping big paper assignments. Her rubrics for the papers are almost 10 pages ALONE, which says a lot. They will make or break your grade. When I would ask her questions about the papers & the topic she would say it was too broad. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!
Quiz every class, boring, would not recommend.
Dr. Law was a phenomenal instructor! I loved the readings/videos we would review before coming to class, and the daily quizzes we would take on this media were a great way to confirm that we had studied the material. The papers while a bit hard were a fun test of my ability to write and just broadly she was wonderful.
She's incredibly difficult to get office hours with & rarely entered grades. I got until the last week of classes (finals week) before any major grades were put into the grade book. All while being continuously assigned 8-12 pg. papers without any feedback or knowledge of how we did on our work in a timely manner.
Dr. Law is a nice prof but she is a TOUGH grader, this class was hard but she tries her best to help you and foster growth. I grew so much in my writing because of this class, if you try you can succeed in this class but don't take this class if you want an easy A. Hardest class I have taken but was a good introduction for upper-level classes.
You will be expected to do a lot on your part in terms of preparation, but she is fair. She wants you to succeed and provides great feedback. There will be a few large papers, but the rubrics are very clear and she provides check-ins. Lectures are very info-heavy but easier to keep track of if you are a good note-taker.
She is an extremely hard grader. She has no constancy in her grading. She simply did not give the right grades. For example I got a c on a paper and she gave me actually good feedback and I used it exactly how she showed me on the next one and got the same grade. Not a good professor.
Dr. Law has high expectations, and she assigns multiple 7 page papers along with weekly class discussions. If you don't have to take the class for your degree, you really shouldn't. She's not a tough grader as long as you put in genuine effort into your papers. Take lots of notes, and make sure not to miss class because she does not give freebies.
This class is really sturctured like a history class which I think is why so many people have issues with Dr. Law. She is very specific about what she wants from you, BUT she gives you very specific instruction about what she wants so in my opinion, if you don't do well in her class, it's entirely your fault. I think people are too tough on her.
She gives semi-good feedback but takes so long to return grades that it's basically useless. Breaks down essays like she is teaching a high school class, not college. If you are late to class she will count you as absent so show up early. Lots of readings and videos to watch. Don't get behind, will be extremely hard to catch back up.
She takes months to grade, entering them last minute. I attended her office hours & received positive feedback, yet she failed my 7page essay due to incorrect citations. This is unfair, as the focus of the assignment was on writing & content. That zero caused me to fail the class, despite having great grades, including A's in all my other courses.
If you're not a history major, do ur best Bruno Mars impression & run run runaway baby bc this class will have you questioning your sanity. She yaps abt the syllabus more than half the semester. For the 2 essays & the class presentation, she posts billion different pages of instructions that contradict each other & are VERY UNCLEAR. Homework's easy
I can see why a lot of people dislike her but I didn't think she was that bad. She does spend a big portion of the class talking about our resources on Canvas rather than the lectures. There are readings and videos that are assigned every class and it's difficult to catch up if you fall behind. She is a tough grader but she gives points for effort.
Dr. Law has high expectations in this course, but she provides clear guidance and helpful feedback. Though the workload can be demanding, utilizing resources like unstuck study alongside diligent note-taking can lead to a rewarding learning experience. The class is challenging, but worthwhile for students seeking academic growth.
I'm not even done with this course and I'm writing the review. don't take her, don't waste your time. We are 4 weeks into class and she has not taught any lecture material - just reiterates the syllabus because of how confusing the structure of her class is. Don't get behind and go to class because you're gonna fail either way, might as well try.
I had never found a class totally uninteresting until I took this professor's course. Although she is nice, her lectures are unhelpful, her syllabus is poorly written, and the assignments are overly complicated. While she seems knowledgeable, so is every other professor. Consider finding another instructor.
The professor is a very sweet and intelligent woman, despite her ratings I took her course to try and do my best. I am having to withdraw, nothing has been graded, she takes awhile to get back to you via email, and spends most of her lectures going over her syllabus rather than lecturing. Again, a great woman, but I would find another instructor.
Dr. Law was a very nice and accessible woman who made sure my efforts to reach out and learn from my mistakes were not wasted. However her actual lectures and the content of those lectures left much to be desired as they were often bloated, boring, and often came with much more work than seemed necessary. Again, very nice prof, very boring class
her instructions for the 8 page essays she assings are complicated and all over the place. this is not how any class should be taught, and she should be ashamed with how she structures her class. lectures are mainly not helpful, she never makes sense, and espects us to do perfect on the essays when she cant even help in her own teachings. avoid her
She makes what should be a easy history class as difficult as possible. Her syllabus is extremely lengthy and she takes forever to respond to emails - if she responds at all. It feels like you're taking an advanced class when its just HIST 2320. She complains about students in Canvas announcements consistently and overall has been unpleasant.
Do not be fooled by the positive comments masquerading her poor teaching as being "challenging." She tries to teach this course like a graduate seminar, and it's clearly not working for anyone—hence why 90 percent of her students drop the class. If enough people tell you you're drunk, maybe it's time to sit down...
She is an incredibly tough grader. No matter how much time you spend in office hours or how hard you work on assignments, if you can't perfectly dissect her extremely long, overly detailed syllabus, you're going to have a rough time in this class. The feedback is harsh and unforgiving, one small mistake can cost you a huge chunk of your grade.
Great person who is passionate about students &her job. Unfortunately, despite the content being interesting, her class is boring. All of her endless instructions contain so many links that you MUST read. It feels like an overwhelming loop trying to get anything done. Confusing &frustrating! Her harsh grading humbled me,but I actually appreciate it
Dr. Law cares but she wants you to care as well. Her syllabus is 21 pages long, and every. single. page on her canvas site has nearly 20-30 links (not an exaggeration). It is so hard to understand what she is looking for in your writing, and her feedback is contradicting. You may think her course it worth it because there's no exams, but it's not.
Dr. Law is knowledgeable, but her expectations are high. Each assignment has very lengthy instructions, and the resources within those instructions are also convoluted. Stay on top of your homework, pay attention to details, and give yourself enough time for the essays (they take longer than you think).
She is the sweetest professor ever and truly wants all her students to do well. She provides very clear grading criteria and a lot of support for the essays and other assignments. I wanted to KMS so badly the semester I took her and she was seriously so kind you guys.
While her lectures were rather boring, which is why I can't give a 5, if you genuinely want to learn about history, learn HOW to learn about history and learn how write a decent history essay, it is a great class. She is truly the only professor I've had where it actually feels like I am in college and have to put effort in to succeed.
She does not stress her instructions enough at all and is very unorganized which is bad considering how many little assignments she makes.
Stay away from this professor. She is a very hard grader and for no reason at all, her instructions are all over the place and are very hard to understand.
She's an absolute mess. All over the place.Extremely hard grader.Lectures last the entire class, resulting in info overload, causing the class to not be scheduled according to the syllabus. Instructions for major grades are randomly posted multiple times in different places, all differing from each other, so it's hard to understand what is expected.
Dr. Law has little respect for student's time and energy. I didn't learn much other than how to deal with a difficult professor. It felt IMPOSSIBLE to do anything right on essays even when giving your best effort based on the 20+ pages of instruction (not joking). She is nice-ish? and seems to have good intentions (at times) but I DON'T recommend.
Very nice as a person and cares deeply, but just a brutal class regardless. Well intentioned surely, but utter overload. Midterm/Final essays are mazes of links for long instructional PDFs. Feels impossible to know where to begin. Dense lectures preceded by tons of reading/viewing prep daily. Intricate notes on all of it are a MUST to make the cut
while this professor cares deeply about both what she teaches as well as her students, the coursework and course overall is absolutely brutal and draining. the amount of prep work you have to do outside of class is insane, and she's an incredibly hard grader. the midterm/final essays are brutal and super confusing
Dr. Law is helpful and caring towards her students but her attendance and grading policies are insane. Miss more than 3 days of class? She'll fail you. If you're late for class even one minute she counts you absent. There are 2 extremely long essays due that make up most of your semester grade and are graded very harshly. Don't take her class.
