Dr. Linton tries really hard to make sure you pass-if the entire class is doing bad on a test she will write her next test accordingly. However, this is where the problem is. Dr. Linton shouldn't be teaching BIO 101. She has a tendency to skip the basics and move right on to the complicated stuff...which is why 80% of her class is failing.
Dr. Debra Linton tries to be helpful. Although, she seems to fail to realize that her class (BIO 101N) is an INTRO class. She skips over the basic's of science which many students don't understand or never learned in the first place. She refuses to curve her grading. All in all, she seems to refuse to help her students understand the material.
Linton is one of the easiest teachers ever! DONT BUY THE BOOK! She is very helpful and clear and if people arent doing well its because they dont listen or read. Going to class is worth a test grade in itself. Definately recommended especially if you are worried about doing poorly in BIO101.
ok, so i think a lot of people agree that she's boring and doesn't have the best teaching abilities. But.... she's new and she is trying. I don't really like her, but she gives study guides and review sessions, let us redo a test, gives grades just for showing up and writes notes for us. Basically failing is completely your own fault. Easy class.
The class is very easy, she tries really hard to help people understand and is very open to suggestions as to how she can better help you learn. The notes she writes are very helpful, and make the class that much easier. I don't think she teaches incredibly difficult material, it feels like the bio class I took freshmen year of highschool.
Failing is rediculous - if you're failing you aren't going & that's your problem. Participation points are awarded, however she designs the class so you don't have to attend 1 class and still be able to pass (given you do well on all exams). She is receptive and her notes are SO HELPFUL. Tests are easy and if not, she fixes them. GO TO CLASS!
I hate bio, I hate the material, Ive heard it 100 times and still don't understand. Debra though, doesn't want any one to fail. She doesnt teach the material well, but as long as I get a solid grade IDC. Compared to what I heard about other classes, I recommend taking her. Failing this class is pretty hard as long as you go. She means very well.
She is a new prof. However, she knows this and makes things work. You never use the book and she makes it really easy to do well on tests. Notes are all posted on the net with just fill in the blanks. This is a great prof is Biology isnt something you rank number one in.
This class is really easy, but you have to go to class because there are 5 pt. activities she does every day in class for attendance. She gives you notes for every chapter so you never need to look in a book which is really nice. There are study guides for the exams which come right from the notes. Sometimes she is really rude to students though.
She is wonderful! You do not have to buy any materials. She puts the notes on Blackboard you just have to come to class to fill in the blanks. Yes, there are 5 point activities in class but they help your grade. You can miss up to 2 weeks of classes! (6 periods). Very clear and helpful teacher. Highly recommended!
Linton is a good teacher. She knows what she is talking about. Sometimes, i feel as though she treats us like children because we are in a 101 class. No need to buy materials, she puts everything on blackboard. Just go to class and do the 5 point activities because they do count towards your grade. Study guides are really informative.
She's really nice. I don't know anything about science.. and I did well. She makes everything really easy to learn!
My favorite teacher so far at Central. She is the most down to earth and really knows her stuff. Dr. Linton couldn't be nicer and really wants her students to do well. All tests are taken straight from lecure outlines on Blackboard. If possible take her for your BIO 101, you'll be glad you did. As long as you go to class there's no way to do bad.
Easy class just study for the exams.
Tough tests, but she prints the notes on black board
At times she seems to rush through the material a little too fast and assume everyone knows the basics, but over if you come to class and fill in the notes its pretty easy. Prof Linton does what she can to help everyone do well.
Very well prepared
I loved Debra Linton. She is hard when it comes to exams but if you study it'll be okay. I hate biology but in her class I learned to appreciate some things in biology. She's passionate about biology and a really great teacher.
Puts the notes on blackboard so all you have to do is fill in blanks in class. You get 5 points a day for being in class. The class is easy, the exams are kind of tough but as long as you study you should be alright.
She gives you fill in notes and in class points that you do in groups, exams are difficult but the lab makes up for it. Otherwise pretty easy class if you study for exams
If you plan on taking BIO101 take Linton! Her notes are super easy they are just fill in the blanks. You get study guides for every exams and she does study sessions before the exams. U never use the book so don't buy it! Attendance isn't mandatory but if you want a decent grade you should go because there are team activities and 3 question quizzes
Super easy class the exams are hard but the review sessions really help. And the 5 attendance points per class really boost your grade. Don't buy the text book you'll never use it.
She is a good teacher. Notes are all on blackboard and all you have to do is fill in the blanks. You have to study for the exams but they aren't too bad. I would recommend her to anyone trying to get their bio and lab credit.
Very good prof. I would recommend her.
Nice teacher, Bio just wasn't my favorite class. Knowledgeable.
Great professor. The study guide has everything thats on the test and she helps you fill it out. She is easy on attendance and you dont need your book.
She is a really nice and helpful professor! Don't buy the book she goes by her own notes. She provides study guides and study sessions (which all of the answers on the study guide are given) before each exam. Go to them! It will help you with the tests!
a good teacher overall. DONT buy the book you will never use it. i never bought the book and i am getting an "A" in the class and i am not a science person. but she is a good teacher and this was an easy course
shes awesome. theres nothing more to say. shes really easy going and she gives study guides for all tests. the tests are right from the notes and guides! if you come to class youre gauranteed at least a B. labs arent bad either if you have it at a good time. :) reccomended!
She lectures using a powerpoint that follows a packet of papers you are supposed to print out. It's very boring ans she often says the phrase "this isn't on the test" after she spends 5 minutes talking about something.
she was great. Lectures are easy to understand, just go to class, take the notes and study hard for the tests. The tests are hard but she gives you a study guide that helps out a lot. Just know the stuff and you should do just fine.
A lot of people might grade her poorly for this class but its because they didn't take the time to use her office hours for lesson plans. She's a "learning" professor. Never taught in an elementary class but "TRIES" very hard to help us out. Easy "A" just go see her. She appreciates the guidance. Take her, its only going to get better.
This is the second time I have had Deb and I love her. She is so caring and really wants you to learn and do well. She is always accessible and willing to help you out completely. Very understanding, clear and concise. You can't go wrong!
Great teacher! Loves what she teaches and does it fabulously! She gives you power point notes and as long as you go to class to get the notes the book is very unnecessary. Of course you have to study, but it's not difficult by any means.
Dr. Linton is the absolute nicest professor I've ever had the pleasure of learning from. The material for the class gets a little dry, but she really tries hard to make it fun. No exams or anything. She helps w/ your MTTC test prep too. Very accomdating and understanding also. I'd take her class again!!
I loved her! She was a great professor! I do not like science at all but I learned a lot with her. She has 4 exams and the last one is not cumulative. She gives you notes to fill in and study guides for exams. If you do the study guides you will do well on the exams. I would definitely recommend her!
I really liked her! Science is my worst subject, but I still did well in the class. Just take notes and do the study guides and you should do well on the exams. There are class participation points every class. She's really helpful when there is a problem. The exams consist of multiple choice and short answer.
Not a fan of her class.I was re-taking it and I would much rather of listened to Kelty babble than her. She treats you like children, talks to herself, makes stupid jokes, and also in a lecture hall makes you sit in assigned rows and have groups?Needs writing in course, the group work would satisify but she adds stupid short answer questions on exams
She is very nice and understanding. She does have quirky little sense of humor that you just give a little "nice try at being funny, but just teach us" mentality. I have never fallen asleep in the class, so its not boring, but not particularly interesting either. Easy, but i needed to do the study guide to get a good grade on the exams.
Good teacher. Lots of material covered, her PPTs are helpful if thats the way you learn. Lots of diagrams and pictures. Tests aren't easy but they aren't necessarily hard. Do the study guide and memorize as much of it as you can. Class is mandatory and you get points for going. The lab is easy, but the scientific papers aren't.
Good teacher. Go to class and pay attention. Easy A
She was a great professor! Easy A! Go to class and study from the study guides for the exams and you will be fine!
A weekly homework assignment. Study guides are very helpful. Notes are fill in the blanks. Easy class if you show up (attendance points for group work). I only used my book for the review pages. She's got an odd sense of humor and treats you like a child.
Dr. Linton was awesome. Very good professor that cares about your understanding. Her notes are great, textbook is not needed. Super nice and helpful.
Great teacher. Extremely helpful. Takes class and individual opinions on the speed of class. Wants to help you, notes are absolutely necessary. Textbook is not needed. However, she wants everybody to be a Biology Major and expects Bio to be first and foremost
Prof Linton was an overall great professor. She was always there to lend a helping hand and even though the exams covered a lot of material, she was always providing us with practices questions and study guides to help us out. I would definitely recommend her and would gladly take another class with her.
Dr. Linton was such an amazing professor. She's super kind and cares about her students. She gives daily clicker quizzes on the material from the day before (mostly for attendance points) and they help boost your grade a lot. She also gives course objectives for every chapter so you know exactly what to study for the exams.
The structure of Dr. Linton's class is mandatory attendance (you get 6 absences) and she takes it by 3 point quizzes that make up a nice chunk of your grade. Her lectures are powerpoints (not available on blackboard) that follow an outline of learning questions. The first exam, she's really helpful. After that, good luck to you.
She is a great teacher, always willing to help. Wants everybody in the class to understand. Really easy to do well, just pay attention in class, she outlines the lectures for notes and that is all you need to know. Take a clicker test every class but easy points for attendance.
I love Dr. Linton she made it very clear what the exams would be over! Her lectures were interesting and you got participation for daily quizzes. Overall easy class, but the lab sucked!
Dr. Linton is really nice. The class isn't too hard if you put the effort in. You definitely need the book and course pack. You take 4 exams and her study guides are very helpful.
Super nice. She gives 5 question quizzes each class, super easy if you glanced over the fill in notes from the last class. Wouldn't recommend skipping class because you won't get the fill in notes from that day. Homework consists of 5-7 questions that you will need your book to look up the answers, only will take about 10 minutes.
Deb is a great professor. She really cares about her students and whether or not they are learning/understanding the material. She outlines everything really well and overall runs this class very well. Some topics were harder than others, but she was always willing to take the time to make sure everyone was on the same page. Take Deb's class!! :)
Do your homework so you can understand the quizzes at the beginning of each class. It's an easy A if you do all of your work. Deb is really helpful too so never be afraid to ask questions.
Deb was an absolutely outstanding teacher! I had to retake biology in high school, but with Deb, I passed with an 84! She explains things very well and usually says the answer, but you have to pay very close attention to catch it.
Make sure you go to class because there is a quiz given every day that can really make or break your grade.
There are daily quizzes so class attendance is important, but miss one or two and it won't be a big deal. There is homework after every class but it is VERY simple and you can just look it up in the book (which is necessary). If you go to class, pay pretty good attention, and do homework you're gonna do great. Class is work, but easy.
She was super awesome!
I wish Deb taught every Biology class! She respects a student's intelligence and is precise in what she asks you to do. She is also very understanding; just talk to her!
She has quizzes every day in class but sometimes you can use notes. She moves really fast and teaches information that isn't necessary. The online homework doesn't follow what we learn in class or what is in the textbook so good luck. Her degree is in how to teach biology, so she focuses on how she presents material, not if we understand it.
She gives you a giant course pack that gives you all the answers that you need. Very easy to study for and clear about what she expected. Would 100% would take a class of hers again.
Dr. Linton is a very whimsical and relatable professor. She does have quizzes at the start of every class on material learned the previous class that are done with iClickers. She teaches material very in depth, which includes tiny details that don't really matter to the overall idea. Homework is online once a week based on that week's material.
From other biology teachers she was very clear on the material she wanted you to learn and she did offer a lot of study materials and ways to help you. What I didn't like was that she gives you a mini quiz every class session based on your readings and makes you learn specifics instead of general material. exams can be hard
Dr. Linton is a phenomenal professor. She gives the class note outlines & slides ahead of time & goes through it all according to the outline so the notes are easy to follow & study from. She has a reading & pre quiz before every class (not hard or time consuming) & a short quiz at the beginning of every class. pay attention & you'll pass
Dr. Linton is very smart and passionate about her subject! In high school I always struggled with biology, but having Dr. Linton explain things better made things so so much easier (because she really cares and knows what she is talking about)! Tests are challenging, however, test should definitely be challenging. You have to work, but not too much
In the beginning of the semester she went into great detail about all of the topics covered and I loved this class; however, towards the end I dreaded it as she just gave us lists of things to memorize and it was like she was throwing information at us non stop. Shes a very nice lady and its not too hard to eek out a B, but it will require effort.
EXAMS ARE HARD. This class was terrible. She talks about things she wont test on and at times gets confusing. Does not present material well. You have homework every class time to do the readings, which at the end of the semester she did them for you.
Linton was very clear with what we needed to know.
Make sure you have the nights before class open because she won't post your readings or preclass quizzes until the day before. She doesn't teach, she simply reads off the slides at a pace that's far too quick to take adequate notes. She throws so much unnecessary information at you--50% of material on the review WON'T be on the exam. Don't take!
I really enjoyed Linton's lectures she made the material very clear. there are daily clicker questions used for attendance so attendance is a big part of the grade. overall one of my favorite teachers at central.
Dr. Linton was a good professor despite BIO 212 being a difficult class. She posts review worksheets that are helpful and is clear what is on her portion of the exam. BIO 212 is taught by two professors (one for animal and one for plant). YOU WILL HAVE TO STUDY AND WORK HARD IN THIS CLASS! The lab is awful too. Hopefully this gets fixed!
Dr. Linton is a great prof. She clearly tells you whats going to be on the exam so if you go to lecture and study throughout the course, you will do fine
Dr. Linton was truly amazing! She let you know exactly what was going to be on the exams and was very accessible outside of lecture. I would highly recommend her for Bio 111
This class is a tough class. She has fast lectures so be prepared for them. She reads right from the lecture slide and skins through then too fast to write things down. She is kind and always available to help you. She gives study guides.
Really good professor as long as you pay attention during lecture. She's very clear and concise and lets you know exactly what you need to know for her exams. Weekly homework assignment, however it is not difficult if time is taken to use notes and other resources. Highly recommend for BIO112!
Deb is a caring professor who clearly knows and uses the techniques that she teaches in this methods class in her own biology classes. She gives good feedback and was flexible with our schedules when choosing due dates for assignments. I feel that she has taught me more than all of my other education courses combined.
Debra is a really nice & friendly professor. Since the entirety of the class is made up of lectures, she does her best and puts in some jokes (they don't help much), but it is very easy to see that she is trying to make her class as enjoyable for her students. I didn't need to talk to her outside of class, but I imagine that she is easy to talk to.
I loved this class. I took bio for elementary school teachers, which has a 3 hour lab that goes with it. The lab is fun, as long as you make friends with the people at your table. The lectures are never boring, she jokes a lot and talks like she's having a conversation with you instead of spitting out information. Although, you HAVE to go to class
Dr. Linton was a pretty easy going professor. She gave us note outlines that matched up with the exam reviews. It was overall not a horrible class. I am not a science person at all but still managed a B which I was very happy with.
Although she speeds through her lectures, she provides you with the powerpoints so you can follow along and then look through them any time you want. She also provides review guides that prepare you for the exam extremely well. You do have to show up everyday and use an iClicker but the questions are very easy. 10/10 recommend her :)
This professor is the most amazing lady. She actually cares about her students, and actively reaches out to help you if youre falling behind. This isnt just a job for her, she obviously is extremely passionate about teaching. Its extremely refreshing to have a professor like her, empathetic and relationships past a surface level. 1000% recommend
I was pleasantly surprised by Linton. You can tell she genuinely cares about her students and their success. The semester was challenging being online but she made it enjoyable. I did not find the class to be overly complex or homework heavy. When studying, I would focus on lecture PowerPoints. She was also fairly accommodating and flexible.
Professor Linton was a wonderful professor! She understands having to miss class and not being able to make it due to numerous reasons. Very understanding and she keeps you engaged during the entire class!
She is not good at all. Not sure how she has a 4.1 rating. Not accomodating at all, and said I was late on almost all assignments but was dealing with mental health crap and its covid times. She is rude. Do not take her class ever. The TA i had was way better!
This class was not that bad. It was actually very easy. You will have homework and exams that's about it. The lab is not bad. As long as you do the homework you get an A for it.
You can tell she cares a lot about what she is teaching and is very passionate about it. She is a great professor and the class itself is pretty easy as long as you do the daily hw assignments that aren't due till the end of the unit, and then participate in clicker questions. Labs were pretty simple too and were not bad at all!
One of the most caring professors I have ever had. She cares about all of her students and does everything she can to make them feel comfortable. She wants everyone to be successful but if you don't try, she will definitely take notice. She gives minimal homework and the lectures are what you make out of it. I would take her again every time.
Debra is truly amazing! She cares about her students and wants everyone to pass. If you do the homework after every class and take the exams youll be fine. Its a super laid back and easy class.
Class was very easy as long as you stayed on top of homework. About an hour of homework each week, and four unit assessments. Everything is open note/you can look up answers. Lab for this class was a little bit more difficult, but at no fault of this professor.
Professor Linton was incredibly fair and made it clear what she expected from us all semester. You go to lecture, get points for answering questions and showing up, and go do one homework assignment per class which is pretty easy. 4 exams that are all open note. When a mix up happened with an exam, she was very fair with us
Dr. Linton was a great professor who was very knowledgeable in the subject and did a good job keeping the lectures interesting. MY only complaints are that there when a couple times when she told us, incorrectly, that a topic wouldn't be on the exam, and the homework would often cover content areas that were skimmed over or skipped in lecture.
Professor Linton is awesome! She's super nice and very passionate about what she teaches. When I didn't understand something she would explain it in different ways or give me examples to help. All of her exams are open notes and the homework is simple.
I genuinely enjoyed Dr. Linton. The lectures are fairly easy and short. Attendance is mandatory and graded at the end of the semester. The lab is where the class becomes slightly difficult. Too many activities are packed into a short period of time. The lab procedures are difficult to follow.
This professor was very nice and made the class easy. Tests and quizzes are open book/note. She talks a lot during class, can be boring, but overall would recommend as a professor.
Professor Linton is understanding, caring, and hilarious. She is upfront with you and doesn't take anyones crap. I hope to be a professor like her one day! She's very willing to help you understand material and is so amazing about giving you the proper preparation for her exams. If you study, you will pass.
Professor Linton is a very kind and compassionate teacher. She always makes sure that everyone is understanding the assignment, and she is very flexible with tests and will work with you to find a time to make it up no matter what. Overall, I loved her teaching style and she helped to make bio class not so boring!
Boring class overall, teacher lectures the whole class
Professor Linton was a wonderful professor. The class is very lecture heavy, but it goes by quickly. She is very caring and tries to give everyone a proper understanding. Usually homework for every class period, but fairly easy and quick.
I really enjoyed how this class was set up. Most of the work was group-related work that you would complete with your group/team. It was basically a win-win, as you could ask each other questions and talk about the answers on assignments before importing them. Prof. Linton had no exams for this course either, which was nice.
Debra Linton is an okay professor. She does lectures the whole class and then posts class review questions after each class period. All of her work is fairly easy and she is very nice.
Professor Linton provides all the necessary materials you need and plenty of time to do things. There's usually about one or two homework assignments due each week, but you're given as many attempts as needed without penalty to try and pass. Your given 6 free skips throughout the semester in case life happens.
Long kinda boring lectures that you have to attend
This is the second class that I have taken with Deb and I will be honest this experience has been different. She could be harsh at times and was not always clear on expectations. I know she genuinely cares for her students though and gives everyone equal opportunity to succeed. If you are an education major you will for sure have Deb at least once.
She's awesome. SO nice and understanding and very accessible.
Each test there was a written, group+indivual portion, in class, and a multiple choice online. In class it was a slideslow lecture and a group assignment based off the lecture. Online there was a 10-15 question homework about what you learned with multiple attemmpts. The lab portion was so easy and fun, and if you were absent you got a online lab.
I liked Debra. Her lectures could get boring, but she makes her expectations very clear! It's not a hard class. The lab depends on the TA you get!
Debras class is very easy. However there were some moments that she would snap at students and then feel bad for it. She was kind of awkward too sometimes. But BIO 165 is not a class to worry about, you get homework after each class, 10 questions and everything is in the notes. The exams are very easy too, 6 questions usually and she gives you prep
Deb goes really fast throughout her lectures and I would have to start writing the notes down before class every single day. I could start 15 minutes early and still be behind. She is super nice and it was a fairly easy class. She will every once in a while make a rude comment to a group and then laugh it off.
Deb is a very kind, accommodating teacher. She does grade attendance, but 5 are excused and do not effect your grade - she also drops your 5 lowest homework grade. You will rely on your table group (team questions and quizzes) so make sure to sit by academically responsible. Try to stay on task during class because she will call you out.
