what a BORING class. I usually felt like falling asleep. She's nice but she needs to retire already.
She says, in emails and in class that shes NOT trying to trick you on the tests, completely false! The tests are so specific and worded differently than the book and notes. Class makes you want to fall asleep, so book is crucial if you don't pay attention in class. Tries to engage the students; shes nice but tests are pretty difficult

Nice lady, but laughs at herself too much. Most of the people in class fell asleep (I counted 20 sleeping one day). Tests are out of the powerpoints, but not verbatum. If you REALLY know the slides, you can ace the tests. 2 bonus questions each test. "all of the above" and "two of the above" questions, but generally those are the easy ones. Average
She is not a bad teacher at all. She makes alot of jokes and laughs at them herself but I think it kinda helps to break up the finance a little. Her tests can be a little tricky but not bad. If you really know the slides you will be ok. Don't bother with the review. The first one was good but after that they got jumbled up and were not helpful.
Tests are based entirely on the notes. I did almost all the reading and found out too late it doesn't help at all. Attendance isn't mandatory. Lectures are pretty boring, but she genuinely wants students to do well so she explains things more if necessary. Students got her off topic a lot which was frusterating sometimes, but otherwise okay.
Worst teacher I've ever had. She doesn't put all the info you need on the power points so even if you miss one day of class, you're screwed. She's boring and makes you want to fall asleep. The book is useless. She told us in class that it's almost impossible to get an A in her class and she was right.
she tells you that you dont need the book but you do.. it was an ok class.. shes kind of confusing
This was not an easy class. Your grade is based on 3 tests which she does weight differently in your favor. Attendance is not mandatory but you need to go to get the notes. The tests are hard and not really based on the notes but rather on what she thinks you should know.
Really knows her stuff! Really nice and approachable. Tests are based on notes. Notes are pretty complete, but go to class and she elaborates on them tremendously so that they make sense without the book. TAKE HER CLASS you'll actually learn something!!
Very helpful professor. Always was available during office hours and even held an extra session to go over the test after we took it. It is helpful to go to class. She doesn't give you the complete powerpoints which is fine by me. I went to every class and got an A. I have a smart friend who never went a managed a B.
She is great, but her test are tuff. She truly cares about her students though and if you try its an easy A.
Unfortunately, Peterson's tests are based off of what she thinks you should know and not necessarily the notes. I suggest reading the textbook and keeping up with current events. Just don't pay too much attention in class. Peterson constantly confuses the class as well as herself. Peterson is a nice lady, but not the best professor in the world.
Hard tests and she is very confusing. Go to class cause if you miss one you will fall behind. Print out the notes so you can add to them
STAY AWAY! her tests are a bunch of weird real life situations. You will not find test answers in a book or from class.. I got a B even though I came to class everyday and read the book. Take Smith much easier. Her class is a waste of time and her reviews are not helpful. She used to be easy and curve..she no longer does this. You have been war
Probably the worst teacher I have had at FSU. Peterson is a super nice person, however, her tests are extremely difficult. According to her, the tests are based on "conceptual"/"real life situations", when in reality they are just made up questions to try and trick you. Read the book, don't even bother studying the vague power-points.
Peterson is kinda of wacky lady. She does test you on the semi-real life situations for the most part, but the are some factual questions. Her goal as a whole in the class is to make you understand the concepts of the finance. Read the book and pay attention to her lectures and you should do well.
the people below me must have no common sense! if you just listen to mrs peterson and really try and understand what she is telling you then, the class is easy, there is nothing to memorize as she always says. Mrs peterson is a very good teacher & explains things with diagrams & stories, dont be intimidated. im so prepared for investments bc of her
Horrible Teacher.. Do not take..AVIOD
GO TO CLASS! print out the powerpoints and write notes to what she says in class. a lot of what is on the test is from class and the book is there to clarify anything you dont understand. BUT she does like to give test questions that have "all of the above" or "none of the above" as an answer, so if you dont like those dont take her
Test are hard. Do not take her. Spring 09 Class started with 300 students and now we are down to 80
A pretty insightful course on finances the average person would actually use in life. The book was somewhat helpful for background info but if you want a good grade you're better off going to class and taking good notes. There are subtle nuances that will be left off of the powerpoints that are only addressed in class.
She talks in circles. Never let's you out of class early. And is sooo boring! If you print out the power points and take notes, you should do fine.
Tests are definitely tricky but if you attend class and take good notes you should be fine. Although she does talk in circles, she is still a great teacher. Shes a great teacher to know outside of the classroom too. Very very helpful and knows a lot when it comes to the world of finance.
The class is okay. Definitely go to class everyday in order to get the 3 extra credit points at the end. You will probably need them. Her tests are difficult and confusing. I studied extremely hard and got a D on the final. Pay attention in class and make sure you understand the slides. If I had the choice, I would have taken a different professor.
She really likes the stock market stuff, its a pretty dry class but should be taken by everyone in college, you either know the stock market or never get to retire. I got constant B's on my tests but because I was present everyday ended up with an A in the class
Dr. Peterson is strange, and by no means is she fit to teach this class. This class is dry and very simplistic, but she made it nearly impossible to learn the material with her scatterbrained mistakes in class. I am sitting in her class now and the words that just exited her mouth were "what did I just do wrong?" Avoid her class if at all possible.
Dr. Peterson is well-intentioned but very scatter-brained. Her class isn't difficult and if you attend lectures and take notes on the slides it is easy to get an A on the tests. Overall, this class was just mediocre. Not difficult but not exciting either, take another professor if they are rated better.
Powerpoint slides are helpful, tests are difficult, she gets off topic very easily. Good luck
She is very nice and wants her students to learn but she is scatter brained. Easily gets off topic and corrects herself very often. It was easier for me to learn from reading the powerpoints than it was to listen to her because she makes a lot of mistakes when she talks.
Her tests are not easy, some questions are really confusing and she said "my tests are hard, I dont expect anyone to get and A". when she explains she tends to mess things up, but if you read and go to class you will get a B
This class material really isn't that bad, but Dr. Peterson is very poor at communicating thoughts. The tests are difficult because the questions are worded so strangely, not because the concepts are tough. Her lectures are very quiet (can not hear her). She tries hard, but she is just not fit for teaching. Record the lectures and study hard.
I really struggled in this class. I got a C-! I attended every class and studied a lot but the tests just seemed really difficult.
Her tests reflect the material covered in class. The students who complain are the majority who don't go to class. I went everyday and was always well prepared for every test. There are no curve balls on the tests. I would take her again.
This class is meant for people who are knowledgeable in Finances already. If you want to learn something in this class, you're out of luck. Regardless of how many notes I took during class and how often I studied, when it came to exams I was out of luck. If you are very interested or have prior knowledge, you can do well in class. Else, stay away.
DO NOT TAKE THIS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A FINANCE BACKGROUND! I am a science major getting a business minor and this class is very tough. I come to class every time and still am lost in the information. She definitely knows what shes talking about but nothing is explained from the basics. And there is no textbook to get extra info. Avoid if possible.
A decent teacher, she's a little disorganized but she makes up for it if she needs to. The tests are almost entirely what she says in lecture, I didn't buy the textbook and I have a B+ right now
This is probably one of the worst professors I've ever had. She's a really nice lady but not a good teacher. Her lectures are reallyyy boring. There's no textbook, quizzes, homework, or study guides. This sounds great, but when it comes to tests, you're in the dark. When I went to office hours, she told me to google everything to study. Just bad.
Although Ms. Peterson had very scattered and sometimes disorganized lectures, she covered all the material that would be on the tests. I went to class and read the textbook and got an A with an average amount of studying. She is also really nice if you go to her office hours to ask questions. Take her in person and not online.
Didnt really attend class too much, just watched her videos and skimmed the book. Got an A but pulling an all-nighter before every test. Her outlines of every chapter help a ton for the test.
I took her online class last semester and apparently she was not ready for new tegrity lectures, and was constantly posting material a day before exams. Very disorganized, in addition to bad timing of posting. Her test questions are worded confusing and are not clear. I would take the class only in person.
Worst. Professor. At. FSU. She only cares about herself. She only has three tests because she doesn't want to do more work.
She's weird but fun and intelligent. She's not a typical boring business adult. She can be scatter brained but means well. What catches people off guard is how this isn't a class where you can memorize the info, you have to learn it. In order of what helps the most to do well on her test: videos, practice probs, book. Go to class if you need help.
The people who complain are NOT GOING TO CLASS. I wouldn't say it is an easy A, but it is one of the easiest Finance classes I have taken. She gives great lectures; very clear and easy to understand. I would take her again.
WORST CLASS EVER! 3 tests equally weighted During exam review 1 she was asked "what type of questions will you ask?" response:"If I ask you what color the sky is and you respond "blue" that's incorrect because the sky can be different colors at sunset/rise" No extra credit/curve Buy the FSU book
This class is based solely on 3 exams, which would be okay if teacher taught the material. In class she goes off track and online she teaches very briefly. The tests are worded in the most difficult fashion where one answer may be more right than another. Horrible professor, not helpful whatsoever, it's a shame that she's the only professor.
She's a terrible teacher and refuses to curve. Her lectures are boring and test questions are extremely confusing.
I have never taken a worse class here at FSU the information is interesting and this could be a good class. With Peterson this class is a nightmare. The worst test writer and teacher I have ever dealt with in college. It doesn't matter how hard you study because you will always do 10-20 points worse than you thought. Good RMP reviews must be her.
She is one of the WORST professors I have ever had! DO NOT TAKE HER! especially the online course... She will bore you to death and what she teaches on the videos have nothing to do with what's on the test. The were three test for the overall semester. That's it. Nothing else. Nada. Please save yourself the hassle and I repeat DO NOT TAKE HER!
She is honestly a great lady, if you aren't understanding something, go to her office hours, she is really helpful! That being said this isn't an easy A by any means. She takes the whole "I don't want memorization" thing seriously. You actually have to understand the material to succeed.
She just talks and talks and talks . 45 minutes will go by in class and you realize she's barely said anything related to the material for the test because she goes on tangents. She's sweet, but doesn't keep your attention in class and rambles. Its more helpful to just read the book 2-3 times and watch her videos rather than go to class lectures.
Really boring, really spacey, and really annoying. I went in to her office hours once. ONCE. I asked how to study for a test and she talked to me for 2 hours about her dogs and how she spiritually communed with 1 of them. Was really weird. Class is an easy A, but it sucked. Class average was like a 58, so she curved a C down to that. A was 86.
Honestly there are a lot of overly harsh reviews for this teacher. Maybe she has changed the way she has teaches from previous semesters. There are only three grades. No homework or attendance points. Ive gotten A's on both tests and I did absolutely nothing till the week prior to the exams.
Get ready to learn this on your own. Worst teacher I have ever had. I honestly do not believe she is fit to teach a college course. I feel like she has kept the same test difficulty over the years and has just lost her mental capacity to retain information. Many of her test questions have no correct answer. Goodluck staying awake during lectures.
This class was horrible. I took this class in person and after going to 3 of her lectures i realized it was a waste of time. Just watch her videos and read the book. Try to understand everything because she will try to trick you on the exams. I had to put way too much time into this class to not even get a grade i wanted
I took this class in person; however, after two lectures, I stopped attending class and watched the online lectures. In class, she just rambled on about nonsense. This class can be seen as an easy B if you watch the lectures and take notes for the 3 exams, but the exams are very tricky.
She means well but she words her tests weirdly; you can eliminate two answers but then the other two both sound right. Her online lectures are fairly good at explaining, you have to take GREAT notes, read investopedia + the book. You cant just memorize a definition - you have to know several ways of saying the same thing bc thats what her tests are
Tests are awful. I studied for hours before every test and received D's on all of them after watching the lectures, doing the practice problems, and readings. If you are not a strong test taker I would not recommend this course, it will just hurt your GPA. Also, she wouldn't meet with me to review my final she told me to come see her in Fall.
The actually subject was not hard to understand and her online lectures were okay; but the tests are awful, they are designed to trick you and each question seems like there are multiple correct answers. She does a study review but sometimes doesn't post certain material until the night before the test.
Extremely awful tests, tried to trick you with answers.
These reviews are too harsh. As long as you read the book, you will do fine on the tests. The tests are not at tricky as everyone claims.
Her exams are tricky, and her in-person lectures are hard to follow. If you are a finance major and need to take this class be ready to read and watch the videos of her lectures. She is willing to help you outside of class as long as you've read or show her you know something of the material.
Final grade is only based on 3 exams. I barely passed with a C- and I have made A's in all my business classes so far. This class almost discouraged me from majoring in finance but I am in FIN3403 now, SO MUCH BETTER!!! Back to A's again!
does not know how to use modern technology, spends half the class figuring out how a computer and microphone works. Tests are the biggest mystery, never once was a class lecture helpful towards her exams
I took this online and her powerpoint and teaching was easy to follow. My two biggest tips are read and follow material in book while she speaks in video to get a better picture. And study a lot. Studying three or four days before the exam will get you a low B or C. Her tests are tricky and sometimes there is more than one correct answer. Goodluck
This class is challenging but doable. All exam material comes from her lectures which are dense and requires constant pausing to type it all. Exams are not for weak test takers
Have you ever had a finance lecture from your grandma? That's what her class feels like. She's polite and knowledgeable but is incredibly boring. No homework in her class, just three tests for 33.3% each. Reading the textbook helped a lot. I recommend watching lectures first, then read. It helped clarify parts she explained in an odd way.
So her lectures are pretty wack and you retain nothing. Her lecture videos explain what she wants you to learn but they're poorly set up. I had to take her but if you can take someone else I advise it. Only benefit is that she tweaks the grading scale so a D+ is a passing C
Class doesn't matter and it shouldn't. Her lectures are horribly spacey and have no clear outline. Her tests are inconsistent with the material and important subjects are not made clear. After a 95 on the first test the same study method earned a 75 on the next. She should not be a professor.
Worst teacher I've ever had. None of the information is clear and she constantly makes mistakes in lectures without explaining what is actually correct. I had a 3.8 GPA at the beginning of this semester but I barely have a C in her class. She is very rude and disrespectful towards students. I am very disappointed FSU still has heron their payroll.
Her in class lectures are boring. I stopped going to class half way through the semester because her online lectures are way more concise and attendance is not mandatory. I bought the textbook but regretted it as all the material is covered in her online lectures. Make sure you understand the lectures before each test and you'll be fine.
Class isn't bad. She is just the worst. Take it in person so you don't have to pay the extra fee for taking an online class but don't actually go because it is a waste of time. All you need are the online lectures.
Her material is extremely outdated & she shows no respect for her students and is extremely condescending. She has admitted she makes her tests unlike the material posted and only bases your grades off 3 exams. Please take this course at another college if you can. No background in Finance and it's apparent when she talks. Wish I could give 0 rate
YO, be very very careful in this class. The whole semester is graded on three tests and that's it! initially, i tried watching her videos but she talked too slow. Personally, I just read the assigned textbook readings; start to end, multiple times. then i would study her outlines. This technique was primo from the start. was not bad at all
This class really isn't bad. Watch her video lectures twice and take good notes on exactly what she says. Read the textbook to help apply what she said in her lectures.
I am typically an all A/B student and I had to take this class for my major. After reading the reviews, I was nervous about how hard the class would be. Honestly, I did everything I could to learn the material in class and through her online lectures. It was still VERY difficult and her tests are worded weirdly.
Im only about half way through this class, and while the material itself doesnt seem bad, she is absolutely horrible. Her video lectures will put you to sleep and she hasnt really even taught me anything. Be prepared to teach yourself. One of the worst professors Ive ever had.
It is a really broad class and it introduces you to everything about finance on a basic level. The teacher is dull but understands everything. I studied the lectures, did not go to class, read the book, and went to office hours. Exams are logic based and more focused on the why and how things happen in finance.
This class is only based off of 3 exam grades. These exams are not worded in a clear concise way. You 100% cannot cram for these exams and make sure you are well rested before taking them. The exams go beyond knowing the material into how good of a test taker are you. The questions are designed to trick you.
Basically this class is the worst class I've ever taken- in part due to the material covered in the class but also due to the professor. No need to go to class; she wants you to watch the lecture videos posted on Canvas. Book is online only but you should read it since she'll test you on material only mentioned there. Tests are extremely difficult.
This class is not as difficult as other students say. the class consists of 3 tests worth an equal amount. Her lectures are all online and terrible quality. Don't go to class its pointless. Watch each lecture twice, take notes one of the times and then read the questions and answers she posts as practice. do those the class should be an easy B
This woman is terrible. I have never taken such tough exams in my life. Every question on her exam has two right answers and the questions don't even make sense half the time. Save yourself some money and take her in-person class but don't show up like the rest of us every semester. Watch her lectures and read the textbook and pray to pass.
First of all, she said in a webinar that she didnt write the exam until the night before it opened. Her class has no structure and is incredibly hard to follow. Her lectures are absolutely worthless and she doesnt know how the internet works and she told us that during finals week she wouldn't return any emails.
If you can follow what's going on in The Big Short after the second watch, you'll be fine. All you have to do is watch the lectures. They're a little tough to get through but she breaks them down into manageable parts (anywhere from 5-20 min. long per topic). The textbook can clarify areas you're still not understanding. Don't overthink the exam!
I had to take this class because I am a finance major. I was always told financial management of the firm was the hardest NOPE. Only 3 grades, which is your 3 exams. All the questions on the exam will try to trick you. Lectures are boring and long, sounds like your grandma teaching you finance. Read the book if you even want to pass. Not a fan.
She uses the same information she has the past 5+ years. I went to her class on the first day and then never went back because everything was online and I had to teach myself anyway cause she went off on too many tangents during class. Only 3 tests so be prepared.
Who would have thought that you needed to put in effort into a class? This class is an introductory level Finance class. If you find it difficult, prepare yourself or get ready to change your major. Excellent teacher, covers so many things, you will learn a lot, and she cares about the students who show interest. Very nice lady and easy to apporach
I watched all the videos and thought I knew the material really well for the last test. I got a D. Study study study or you will fail.
The worst class I've ever taken at FSU. Her lectures are online and put you to sleep. Only grades are 3 tests which are designed to trick you. Use skoolers if you want to pass.
Her tests don't line up with any of the lectures. Almost all the questions have about 2 right answers and the questions have double negatives half the time. The material is so easy, but her exams make no sense. Skoolers helps and so does the book but with exams being 100% of your grade it's easy to mess up. Don't take it if it's not required.
Peterson needs to retire although she has extensive knowledge in finance. Her lectures are inconsistent, dry and robotic but the content is interesting. Contrary to what many say, her tests are not designed to trick you. They are just not word for word from her slides/lectures, you will have to use your financial knowledge to think through problems
She can't use a computer to save her own life and is incredibly unclear. Study everything because you never know what will pop up on the test. My grade dropped an entire letter because she wasn't clear about what chapters were going to be on the final
Ill literallt explain the whole class to you. You will be in a 4 month long semester, and in those four months you will answer a total of 100 test questions. All of these questions are designed to trick you and they are the only thing your grade will be based on FOR FOUR MONTHS OF GRANDMAS UNDETAILED LECTURES. No homework, no way to practice, nada
Who would have thought a 3000 level course in Finance would be difficult. Professor Peterson is extremely knowledgeable and the exams are very hard. That being said, go to class, read the book, and actually put in the work to understand the financial system and you will get an A. There are only two classes at FSU worth taking, this is one of them.
Peterson's lectures are as bland as if my 85 year old grandma was talking to herself. Her voice sounds literally like siri is teaching you your material. However, if you have basic knowledge of finance, the class is cake. Make sure to take note of EVERYTHING stated in the lectures because that's exactly what's going to be on the test.
Tbh youre in college to learn and thats exactly what this class is organized to do. She really makes sure you know your material. If you're ready to study grasp the material (not to "just pass"), you'll be fine. Dont procrastinate for tests and dont underestimate this class. Just study, study, study and you'll be fine.
The worst professor I have ever had. She words the questions just to trick you. You could understand all of the material completely and still not get an A on the exam. It's hard to even understand what she is even asking at times. And the grade is only based on three tests which makes it even harder to get a good grade. Don't take her if possible!!
In my belief, Professor Peterson could not care less if her students grasped the (rather simple) concepts of her course. Is she a dry lecturer? Yes. Do the 3 exams feel arbitrarily put together? Absolutely. The questions are clearly meant to confuse you; Ive reported several of her them to the testing center. You can learn more from Youtube.
I am a bit perplexed by everyone's struggles with this class. Watch her video lectures, write down every word that she says, and then go over your notes twice. She curves every test and a 90 is an A. No HW or anything, so be sure to not mess up on an exam. If you try though, an A is extremely achievable.
Has no idea what she is doing as a professor. Her course work/ lectures have no direction. It was a struggle for her to communicate to her students and relate what topics she would test on. The test themselves were poorly written always using strange wording to set up questions. Its a shame because the subject itself is super interesting.
Although I respect Professor Peterson, this was the worst class I have ever taken at Florida State University. Extremely unfair course especially since this is a class you have to take even as a non finance major. The exams are THE WORST representation of the lecture material. Be prepared to cry yourself to sleep at night.
I would say that this is so far the best professor I have ever met. Her lectures are so concise and easy to watch. The whole course is very inspirational, and Dr. Peterson really cares for her student's success. The class will challenge you and definitely make you stronger. The knowledge I have received from the course if definitely worth the work.
Dr. Peterson means well but her tests are just poorly written. A lot of the questions are confusing and I can see why people do bad. If you are a bad test taker it will definitely be challenging. However, if you watch the lectures at least twice and actually understand everything the class is an easy B at least.
Her lectures are boring and her test don't make sense. She will, however, give curves and extra credit for bad questions she creates. Good luck.
Dr. Peterson is interesting. Her lectures are a bit dry, but I enjoy the subject so I didnt mind listening, they are not more than 2 hours long. Tbh you should watch The Big Short before this class it helps understand the terminology used. Her test are not to bad if you watch the lectures, read a little, and do the homework.
Debra makes her exams so poorly and are worded to trick you. I wish her lectures were more engaging. Write down every single word she says and watch the lectures 3 times. Good luck
I don't know how anyone could possibly pass this class. There is no way to know what to expect on the exams because she has no homework or quizzes to practice on. He lectures are essentially just her giving vocab words, but not explaining the application of them and the application of them is what the exam consists of. Maybe she is better in person
I got a 97 in this class. It's all about your work ethic and how much you actually want to put into it. If you want to procrastinate, good luck. I read the book, watched the lectures three times, wrote down every single word, and studied >1 week in advance. The material you learn in this class is crucial but it's doable.
Only three exams, her lecture videos are years old, her syllabus is idk how old. The syllabus has dates from random years. They are trying to get her to retire early coz she has so many complaints against her. The book is interesting but she made this class so horrible
First, and probably last rate my professor review.. Mrs. Peterson is extremely caring, knowledgeable, and helpful. I got a D on the first exam (of 3). I felt discouraged and wanted to blame Mrs Peterson. Instead, I went to her office hours, went over my exams with her, listened to her advice, and put in more work. Got A's on the next 2 exams.
Class Sucks. Lectures are from 2014 and outdated. Tests barely reflect anything that was covered in lectures. Class is graded on 3 tests only with no HW or EC.
Just don't even take her. She's the most useless professor I have taken to date. Tests that have nothing to do with the lectures. You think going to her office hours would help? No, she goes off on random tangents at her office hours just like she does in her office hours. Only grades are 3 tests which getting a c- is a miracle in itself.
I would avoid this at all cost, first of all this class cost extra because it's online. Her videos suck, they cut in and out of different audio overlays, you would think someone would just make new videos but no, she just cuts it in and out. The class only has 3 exams for grades, like there is no other supplement to this class but this videos.
By far the worst teach I've taken at FSU. She fails to update her lectures and she uses a ton of old movie clips to explain things because she does not know how. FSU needs to get someone else to teach this class because there is very important and interesting information in it. It is such a shame. Also no practice problems to help with exams.
Worst. Professor. At. FSU. She seems like she cares about her students but if she did, she wouldnt make the only 3 grades in the class, 3 extremely hard exams with weird word choice and unclear answers
I'm just give you guys the honest truth. The lectures are boring. The class is hard. I don't think I've ever worried about a class in my in life as much as this one. You may think you're ready for her exam but do yourself a favor and watch her lectures multiple times. The witch likes to play mind tricks with each and every one of her 3 exams. RIP!
