CLASS IS JUST LECTURES AND VERY EASY REPORTS BUT THE HARD PART ABOUT THIS CLASS ARE THE TEST. I DIDN'T READ THE BOOK BUT THE NOTES ARE AVAILIBLE ONLINE. I CAN UNDERSTAND A LITTLE WHY I DID BAD ON THE TEST BUT THE AVERAGE GRADE ON THE TEST WERE ABOUT 60 AND THE HIGHEST ON THE FIRST TEST WAS 76. IF YOU TAKE THIS CLASS YOU MAY DO FINE IF U READ BOOK
Helpfull and great. Would take her again. Loves what she teaches. Only downfall tests are hard until the last couple chapters then there a breeze.
I would not recommend this teacher to anyone! She has two sections of Biology and in both sections there is not many students passing. She doesn't explain anything. She reads straight from the book. The test are very hard. Her reviews suck! I don't recommend it.
Good class. She loves what she teaches and you can tell. She knows her stuff. Read the chapter, at least once. Definatley look at the notes. Ask questions, she won't mind helping you. Study for the test!!! It covers a lot. I would take her again because although it was proving, I learned a lot from her.
HARD EXAMS, GREAT INSTRUCTOR WHO LOVES SCIENCE. SECOND COURSE WITH HER
Extremely nice, is quite difficult and demands you work hard. (Side Note... quite attractive.)
DO NOT TAKE THIS LADY, GUARANTEE U WILL FAIL AND SHE WOULD NOT CARE. IF U ARE UNABLE TO READ THE BOOK THEN SHE MIGHT BE HELPFUL B/C THAT IS ALL SHE DOES WITHOUT GOOD EXPLAINATION. DON'T TAKE HER
This teacher can't teach to save her life, The class first test avg was in the 40's second test in the 50's I didnt say longer after that because it would have cause my 3.5 GPA to drop. She gives extra credit after telling students they may leave when going over review, then she says shes giving extra credit what a loving helpful teacher, her attit
DON'T DO IT. YOU WILL REGRET IT.
Teacher is very young and inexperienced. You must be highly motivated to take her and be able to self teach. You must also have a lot of free time to study because it is the only way you can pass the class. She is not available for assistance other than on class nights and provides no way to contact her.
This is one of the WORST instructors I’ve ever had. She is rude and condescending. Her test are very hard (she’s even said that), however she gives extra credit. She does not care whether you pass or fail. Out of a class of 25, 19 have dropped/withdraw. DON’T take her if you can help it. You will be wasting your time and money.
This was the hardest class. She mixed up tests, no one aound me seemed to be getting any better idea of what was going on in that class then I did. She gave notes that were great but the tests were like SAT questions and you REALLY had to know how to apply the concepts to real life because the questions were all which do you think applies here.
It's simple. If you want to pass don't sign up for any of her courses!
Don't take her!! She is rude, inconsiderate and too hard. Lesson were word for word from the book, so I waisted money on that. The review was just a bunch of questions that she never went over nor did she take the time to further explain things to the students that were lost, especially when they asked. I will never recommend her to n-e 1.
This is the worst professor that I've ever had. She doesn't teach what she gives tests on and expects that everyone knows the information. Not only that, but for a "conceptual class", she makes it seems like we are ALL biology majors. Maybe she confuses our class with her general biology... Either way, don't take her because her tests are difficult
THE HARDEST TESTS IN THE WORLD.. The only people who can pass, are jeopardy contestants. Don't take her please.
This woman is a horrible teacher! She is pretentious, doesn't teach material that is on tests, gives the wrong tests and actually canceled a class to go on her summer vacation which normally wouldn't be a huge issue but it was an 8 week class! Don't take her! She has no place as a professor!
The Summer class was very difficult. She actually told the class that "no one gets A's". I don't recall when that memo was issued. Hind sight is 20/20.
I have a B in her, only because I already knew the material. Most people's test scores are very low. No extra credit. Only grades are pop quizzes and tests. She is moving 4 weeks ahead of the syllabus. 1/2 the class dropped out. Likes to interrupt. Oversimplifies material to the point of inaccuracy. Doesn't care if you do well.
I do not recomend this teacher at all! She is so extremely not helpful, and very condensending to her students. Material covered in class and in notes provided are not what you see on the tests. This is more like a Pre-Med Biology, not General Bio. This teacher should not be teaching, extremely dissapointed!
HARD TESTS! She really could care less if you pass or fail. First 3 tests, the average class grades were in the 50 %'s, and she doesn't care. More then half the class dropped it, which she encouraged! Her tests are so difficult, she asks questions that you are bound to get wrong! Don't take her!
Run for the border! She is the absolute rudest PERSON I've ever met! She flat out told our class that she didn't care whether we passed or failed! This little old lady in my class was so confused and every time she would ask for help Rinne would just make a total fool of this ladies questions! Horrible professor but most of all horrible person.
She doesn't review info enough. What she prints on test is vastly more hard than her simplistic lecture notes. she does seem to care if you pass or fail.
You must have good study skills. Her tests are VERY hard. I studied like a maniac and got a B. She does care if you pass, but she's not going to go out of her way to make YOU care if you pass. I can honestly say I learned the material, but purchasing the extra materials (CD, online tools) is a must.
Mrs.Rinne was a wonderful instrustor and i enjoyed her class very much. Though extremely hard it was informative, and quite helpful. I thought she was quite friendly. ~OZZY~
I was really excited to start General Biology as a second semester freshman. On the first day of her class Rinne announced the majority of students will fail or dropout. I feel she did not belive in her class at all. It was extremely hard and no matter how much I studied, I could not get it right. I wound up withdrawing after the second test. : (
Awesome she is very clear with each chapter and makes sure you understand and really knows her stuff. Makes class fun if she teaches other subjects will definitely take her again
I cannot believe the bad comments on here, Prof Rinne is young and makes the lectures pretty interesting, very thourough, but the tests are hard. I studied like a maniac and learned so much and ended up with a B. You learn alot trust me.
Mrs Rinne is a great professor. She DOES care if you pass but you must make the effort to do it. She will not hold your hand. I just wish she taught micro and a&p. I would def take her again. Buy the CD and online help. It will help alot.
Took this class Summer term B. Moved VERY fast which is expected for a short summer class. Professor Rinne is hard, but you learn a lot! Read the book...a must! She cares if you care!
Professor Rinne does not mince words about Bio 101. It was made hard, very hard, by design. But what she is absolutely correct about is her fairness. She's excellent at her profession, so GO TO CLASS and STUDY. Power through the first 2 exams, trust me, you'll be okay at the end of the semester if you study and read the book.
Her lectures are enjoyable and clear. Lecture notes posted on her website. She likes hard and application type questions. Book,CD and help sessions are great. Online access is faster and offered a little more than the CD. Lot of quizzes. No hw or extra credits. A lot of students withdrew or failed to get "C". "A" is rare and for the brainy ones.
She's pretty straightfoward. Her lectures are clear and understandable although she goes a little quickly. I never read the book, but I managed a C from her teaching, so she's doing something right. Not too easy, not too hard. I'd take another class with her.
Awesome teacher with a passion for Biology. Very informative and just like any other good teacher, she expects some work from you and for you to learn the subject!!!
she's a very nice person but this class was online then ur on ur own pretty much. labs are clear except when you do ur practicals. only grades quizzes and tests half of the class dropped out. more communication was needed.this is a hard class don't take online.
This is the only class I'm taking this summer, and I am so grateful for that. This class, hybrid w/ on-line lectures(meaning extra reading/power points online), has been extremely challenging. This last week alone we had a test (4 chptrs) a quiz (2 chptrs) a lab practical and a lab report due. YIKES! It's been rough to say the least. Be prepared
This is a very hard class to take online...I do not recommonend it. She is nice but her tests are very hard, all interpretive questioning. I managed to fail some of the online tests, and thats with studying and having the information right in front of me! ugh.. She is a good teacher but expects alot from her students. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE!
this teacher sucks and im saying this truthfully. this class wasnt online. and at first i thought it as going to be good. She doesnt explain that well and then tries to make the tests harder on purpose. She doesnt help and then complains when people are failing. Half the classed dropped and most people are failing.
Great teacher but dont think that this class is anything but a bear. Come prepared to class and you should do fine.
Professor Rinne's Gen Bio 1 class is not one you can afford to have many absences in nor not treat the textbook like it's your bible. She definitely pushes the critical thinking when it comes to her tests and quizzes and, after you catch on to her style, you can succeed with the right preparation - read the chapter, clarify troublesome concepts!
She definitely teaches well. The material is hard. She gives harder tests so you think outside of the box which gain a full understanding of the material. This was a repeat course for me and I wish I had her first!!
Professor Rinne is very interactive with her students. She's funny and you can see her enthusiasm for her subject. She doesn't push with silly homework assignments, instead she expects you to take the initiative to study and earn your grade. This is not an easy course. But the teacher is wonderful. I plan on taking her for BIO II as well.
She is a horrible teacher. She seems really cool, as a person. But, as far as teaching you material, she is not good at all!! DO NOT TAKE HER if you want to pass. she's really cool, but as i said, what she 'teaches' or tries to teach doesn't relate to what's on her tests & exams. NOT RECOMMENDED!!
THE TEACHER DOESN'T TEACH YOU WHAT'S GOING TO BE ON THE TEST. SHE'S A GOOD PERSON BUT A HORRIBLE TEACHER. I ATTEND ALL HER CLASSES, DID THE EXTRA CREDIT AND I STILL GOT A "C". DON'T TAKE HER.SHE DOESN'T POST THE TEST ON TIME AND DOESN'T GIVE QUIZZES BACK UNTIL SHE REMEMBERS.
Her lectures are long and can be difficult to follow. Great teacher but her tests are extremely difficult with both application and remembering details but she knows what she is talking about. I have found the course extremely challenging and requires alot of out of class study time to excel but she is willing to work with you. Difficult but good.
She knows what she teaches; is what you would expect from a biology professor. You will be expected to apply what you know on tests. I'm sure she gets tired of students complaining about the amount of information expected to be known, because it's very common; yet this is a science class/lot to learn. Fun and enjoyable class & would take her again.
Stay Away from this professor if you want to get a good grade. She is a very nice as a person and knows her material but the test are ridiculously hard.
Rinne is nice, and helpful. The class is difficult, but it is made more difficult by her outdated powerpoints and tests that she doesn't look over carefully before giving. She has a lot of knowledge herself, but she is not very good at communicating that knowledge. Read the book! You'll need to about every day to pass her tests and practicals.
I am really glad I took this class with professor Rinne. She is a very talented teacher who makes lessons very understandable. Considering Biology is a very difficult material, Rinne knows how to organize subjects in a way students can learn better. Very professional, yet makes classes fun. Cares about students and helpful. A+ professor. M.
So she was hard, and it was a very difficult class. I am by far a grade "A" student. I went to every single class, and studied as she said and I passes with a B. It is up to you to get a good grade, she give you the necessary tool. She is an awesome teacher!!!
she is a very nice person but her class is ridiculous hard, her teaching is on such a high level, bad test reviews, study guide and test does not completely match, sometimes test have questions on material we have not covered, out dated power points, she does not care if you pass or not,if you are not good in science,DONT DO IT !!!!
Always helpful great professor easy to understand her material. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Barely touched the book and got an A!
She's not helpful and happy to see her student fail. Do not take her classes.
She does not lecture much. If you are okay with teaching your self then by all means choose her. She skips around her PP so don't even bother printing them. I took self notes with the book, and that is the only way I learned in that class
Such a great professor and person. Makes everything very interesting. Hands on , helpful. Love her class
Overall, she's a good professor. Skipped around the power points. She is very knowledgeable about the subject. There is plenty of extra credit opportunities and she drops the lowest test and quiz grade. If had the opportunity, I would take another class with her
The class is tough. There is a lot of material and very detailed information. The teacher does not teach for the test and does not properly explain the material. Blows through ppts. The test is 100% based on the book. So read the book and know it well. Take at your own risk. Don't expect to learn much solely from her. Read the book prior.
Do not take this class. She is not helpful she looks at you as if you already suppose to know biology. Her test does not correspond with what she actually she teaches . If you are able take to choose another Biology professor . Choose Boyce she is very helpful and a better professor.
She wasn't very helpful. Every time I reached out to her she was short and didn't seem like she wanted to help. Her test don't match the study material. You literally have to know the book, homework and study area in order to pass the test. Good luck if you take her. I defiantly won't be taking her again.
Professor Rinne lectures were short and not very informative. I had to take a lot of time reading and trying to interpret things on my own, which was hard. I would consider myself a good student (dual enrolled) with a 3.9 GPA at the college and a 4.3 overall. She was a very kind, funny lady, but not a good lecturer/professor.
This is the worst teacher I've ever had in my life. She tries to help, but is very unclear. When she is explaining it seems as if she expects you to know what she is talking about already. I would not recommend her at all for General Biology.
RInne seems like a nice woman but a horrible professor. The book is your only means of survival and she leaves us in lab to figure things out on our own. Made office hours with her and she left me 3 days before our exam and I basically begged for help. She likes to stand on her "soap box" a lot and if you take her you will find out what that means
BIO is a hard subject and she dropped the ball. Lectures were long but not informative and did not help, textbook dependent BUT wanted our application to extend further then what the text provided. I found this to be very hard when understanding a majority of her material. She told many of us to use other resources besides her. Very frustrating
Do the homework and get as much extra credit as possible. She's super understanding if you work for it. STUDY!! You won't pass if you don't. Overall she makes the class bearable, but it's difficult to understand if you don't go. Don't miss a lecture or a lab because then you really fall behind.
she was not accessible outside of class. her power points had no info and she didn't even lecture on the stuff from the book. She would ask you to read the chapter before class and outline it yourself and only take questions or would lecture about stuff and then say "you dont need to know that". unorganized and would leave us in lab alone.
WORSE Professor!!! DO NOT TAKE! I got scammed into her class due to Holly Williams retiring and they changed our professor last minute without notice. Her quizzes are free game even though it states pre lab quiz there will be lecture material on there. SAVE your GPA and take another professor. I took her for BIO 2
Don't take this professor!!!! She gives you lab/lecture quizzes with extremely difficult questions that have minimal information from the actual book. She gives you no hints about what will be on the exams and practicals. I've read the physical textbook, done practice quizzes online and watched videos and nothing helps. She does little to help you.
At first I was not really liking the professor because I was not understanding the quizzes or tests. The quizzes and test are very textbook heavy, so make sure you read the chapters! You will not pass if you choose to not read it. Extra credit is given throughout and at the end of the semester. I think she is very nice.
She is a nice person but It was a hard class for me, not only because of the material you have to learn but because her lectures, the book, or even group studies didn't seem to help. Multiple people from my class asked her for help and she did try to help but it really didn't do much. Her tests are VERY different from what she teaches in class.
Lecture/Lab quizzes every day. Homework is just Mastering. Optional presentations for extra credit at the end of the semester. She offers tons of extra credit! Her lectures are kinda dry and uninformative but if you review the book on your own you'll be fine. She's super nice, I feel like its just a rough class in general, no matter who the prof.
One of the nicer profs that I've had this year. Most of the work is from the textbook and she uses a lot of practice tools to help you prepare for the tests each week, which are only 10 questions. The exams are a little tough. Overall, she's a good teacher. She's the only one who seemed to be nice enough to give feedback on assignments.
I took this class online . There was a lot of homework with no guidance . do not take this class online. The exam questions did not cover anything we learned in the book . There is little or no feedback on TEST , EXAMS , OR QUIZZES. I would not recommend taking this professor !
The class isn't hard at all but be ready for locked assignments. For those who prefer to work ahead you can't! So it conflicts with my scheduled and sometimes I end up doing the work on the due date which is stressful. Plus you'll be doing a total of 120+ questions (depending on how you do)each week that includes the homework, quiz, assignments.
This is for the online version of this class. Christ, the amount of homework in this class is insane. Every week you have a total of about 150 questions to answer, many of which are just lazy rewordings with semantic changes designed to trip you up. The reading is light, but the amount of homework is just too much that it becomes plain tedious.
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! She seems like a super nice lady but a horrible teacher!! The lectures/study guides are nothing like the test!! If you take her you better be ready to teach yourself and spend hours studying just to get a C
I love Professor Rinne. She goes through lectures on a powerpoint, but also writes it on the board to extend on what she is talking about. She gives great examples that you are familiar with the help understand more. She gives extra credit if you go to certain things and write a paper on it. Her quizzes and tests are not difficult; study in advance
This is not a Professor, this is an online moderator that assigns Inquizitive, Connect, AND Smartwork, as well as Canvas assignments/quizzes/tests. Yes, you have to do all 3 with about a minimum of an hour and a half per assignment weekly(Only 3-10pts each btw) BUSY WORK QUEEN. Have fun paying 3x the money for 4x the workload.
Great professor for such a difficult class. If you read the textbook and live by it, youll do fine. Do NOT rely solely on her lectures to pass the class, you will not pass. You have to allot major study time for this class so be prepared.
Professor Rinne is super nice. She is very responsive. Weekly quizzes and unit chapter exams. 5 exams total including the final. She does not have study guides and uses a lock down browser. You must take your own notes and read the book and hope the info is on the test. She drops the lowest exam grade even if its the final and she does offer EC.
Awful, just completed an assignment composed of 87 questions, some of which were multi part, worth a grand total of 7 points. Locks the material behind a textbook paywall. Locks future assignments by week intervals so I can't even attempt to get ahead. Not the worst professor I've ever had, but the size of the workload alone makes her not worth it.
She gives a lot of homework that isn't worth much and takes a long time to respond to any email/message. Your entire grade is basically tests and lab practicals. She is very nice when you go in person to do labs but isn't helpful at all when it comes to answering questions.
She's terrible she gives you like 15 assignments all due on the same damn all should be done within 7 days. Only unlocks assignments as weeks progress. Long and difficult assignments. Two assignments she assigns consist on 70-80 questions. Would not recommend would never take her again.
She has a lot of work for so few points and 5 exams. She grades everything as though it was easy.
Had to drop the course. No teaching, just online assignments given by a third party source.
Professor Rinne was respectful toward me when I had questions and need help. However, she gives large loads of homework each week that was difficult for me to complete early during the entire semester. I also didn't have time to read the module readings and skipped doing the module work, quizzes, and exams. If you love your life, do not take her.
literary had our first quiz after the first class. we had 20 min lecture in our first class. you need to read the whole chapter by yourself. there will be many topics that she wouldn't cover in the lecture but you'll find them in the textbook. you've to find all the answers by yourself. definitely not recommended for anyone.
Anytime I went to her office hours to ask questions about the test she would just tell me to study it all and there would be no point in going to the lectures because the info not correlate to what was on the test. When the class asked she told us to study more. Do not take her.
Ask for any help and all you'll get is study it all. If you are going to take biology 2 and she's the only professor left wait for the next semester. The lectures don't help with tests. I went to review my exam in office hours and she left in the middle to strike up a conversation about lunch plans. Gave me the hand when I asked her to return.
By far the most difficult professor I have taken in 2 years. Lectures do not help with exams. Exams, quizzes, and homework are all third party and can be on anything in the textbook. There are no study guides. Very limited student hours so if you have a job or family outside of school, you won't find much help. Limited extra credit opportunities.
My main issue was this. You know that thing teachers do where they say the homework is only 3 questions; but then you look at it, and each question has 46 different parts to it that are each worth a percentage of the grade? That is every single assignment in this course. It really drains you and eats up a lot of your time.
She gives tests every day you have her class, before the lab then after, and a day after the lectures. the study guides and lectures she gives are never on the test. She gives extra credit but not too often. All the homework and worksheets are worth 2.5 points of your grade tests are 50 and exams are 100.
There was a lot of reading assigned along with thoroughly time consuming homework assignments. I took this course online so I was basically trying to teach myself the material. I spent a lot of time studying and taking notes but it did not show in my test/exam results. I struggled with this course and ended up getting a 65
Be warned that she weighs the exams way heaver than the assignments. She is very responsive and detailed on where yo can do better on the other hand
Professor Rinne was not a good teacher. Exams were very hard and she did not provide a study guide. She gave 10 quizzes that were weighed heavy so if you did bad on those you were not going to pass. Lectures are boring and useless. Uses textbook generated PowerPoints. Don't recommend.
If you value your sanity, avoid this professor's class. All assignments, tests, and quizzes are locked, so you can't move on until you complete the previous one. If you're late on an assignment, you'll likely get a bad grade due to the 10% per day penalty, but it must be done to unlock the next item. This causes undue stress and hinders success.
Do not take this class unless you want your GPA to plummet tremendously. The assignments and tests are all extremely tough and she does NOT prepare you for them. Each assignment takes at least a couple of hours (with each question having many parts). The lectures are a waste of time and just a copy of the textbook. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE PLEASE.
Whatever you do, avoid her course
To be honest, I was scared by a lot of the reviews for this professor before taking her class. She wasn't nearly as the reviews made her out to be though. She wasn't bad, if you put in the work you will pass this class.
Professor Rinne's class is tough, with a heavy workload and challenging exams. However, using Unstuck study alongside the textbook can help simplify the material and prep for tests.
You can review all you want, but on the exam it's not gonna make any sense because her reviews are totally different from the actual exam. She only gives out extra credit by one point. She made passing her class extremely hard. She's rude. She had some type of animosity towards me and can be racist at times. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS.
This professor is very judgmental. Honestly I do not believe she has any ambitions to teach students in way that allows them to receive a letter grade above a D! I was very disappointed. The material itself was not that difficult, unfortunately the way she has very grading system set up is a path to failure. One test below a C and you are done.
This was the most confusing course. The first video that she posted was garbled and unclear. That should have been the first red flag. The second red flag was when I studied material then went in to take the test and literally none of the questions were in the material. One bad score drops your grade a complete letter, very discouraging.
Anyways! Not mean by at all, but not the warmest person either! The hw situation is crazy time consuming (looks like 15 questions, but questions have 7+ parts). The way she words questions in her quizzes/exams is ridiculous, and makes them harder than they need to be. Her lectures are objectively bad, and don't set the class up for success at all.
If you value your GPA, don't take this class. If you are a working adult, please don't take this class. Spending 10 hours on any one given class is acceptable. However, spending hours hunting for answers to the point where you feel like the textbook and the homework are completely different is unacceptable. Made the class way too hard for no reason
Ok, this class is not hard per say but you do need a plan. Most module assignments and quizzes can be done twice, so do them twice. It was easier for me to listen to her lectures first then read rather than the other way around. On the quizzes use scratch paper to jot down concepts you don't understand and actually study. This class is not bad!
The professor set clear expectations. The course material will help you past the class. It is imperative to do homework and listen to the lectures prior to testing. If I had a better strategy I could see getting an A in the class. The professor is very professional responds to emails within 24 hours or less and gives extra credit assignments .
I'm not sure why most of the bad ratings she receives are from students blaming her for having too much homework on Pearson; those are not something she has control over. She delivers amazing lectures and is very knowledgeable about the materials. Additionally, she gives plenty of idiot proof study materials for students to prep for exams.
I do not understand why most of the ratings she receives are people blaming her for having too much homework on Pearson; she has no control over those. She delivers great lectures and is very knowledgeable about the materials. She provides numerous study guides for each chapter and exam. Her labs and lab practicals are extremely easy to complete.
