a very helpful teacher... funny too
I never liked art, but i loved her class. you need to put a little efforth into it, but is very funny and outgoing. highly recommended
Great professor, all around. She makes the subject matter interesting and just may convert you into an art history nut like she did me. After her class, I decided to minor in the subject. She's nice, helpful, interesting, take her, you won't regret it
Teaches subject with passion. Makes subject and class interesting, like to convert students to art history major. Fun class, learn alot and make you look at paintings, sculptures, and other art media in a different perspective. Highly recommended.
this woman is brilliant.
Sucks!!
the below person evidently needs their hand held to pass a class, dr.S is one of the top prof at this college. You have to work and learn for an A but Hello your in college! Dr.S You Rock!!!
I thought it'd be a boring class but she made the class interesting&fun. You don't need much notes just go to class, how hard is that? If u miss anything her webpage will keep you updated. There's only one paper to turn for grade and an extra credit paper, if you need points.
intresitng lectures...hardly any work..her website is a great help. she really gets into it.
SHE'S A REALLY GOOD TEACHER, BUT REALLY BORING.
i am in love with her i could sit there and hear her talk for hours
Wonderful teacher! A bit boring, but I'm not much into art. She makes everything easy to understand and can be funny too. She's cute as could be, if I had to take art again, I'd definately take her!
I love art but am not doing so well in this class. Its my fault....she is an excellent teacher and very approachable. If you have any kind of interest take her!
Dr. Schafter is a great professor! She is very passionate about the subject. Her assignments are very clear. If you have any questions she is very glad to help. Art Appreciation is not exactly my cup of tea, but I would gladly take it again if she were to be my professor.
Dr. Schafter teaches with a huge passion for Art history. Her classes are full of interesting information about the topics she covers. Her exams and papers are not difficult at all if you put a worthy effort of studying into them. She is very approachable and unintimidating.
THIS TEACHER WAS VERY RUDE HER CLASS IS BORING AND SHE DOES NOT ATTEND TO HER STUDENTS SHE IS VERY SASSY AND SARCASTIC.BADDDDDDDDD TEACHER TO TAKE.
Great teacher. I really learned a lot, and you will too, if you take her class. She obviously loves her subject, and she makes it fun for the rest of us. Very nice, but be expected to do a lot of homework, especially for the papers, if you want a good grade. Wonderful personality too, always came to class with a smile.
The class sucks but the teacher is very sweet. The class is boring but if you have to take it I would advice you to take this teacher. She was very sweet and understanding. As long as your papers are due on time and you attempt to be prepared for tests you'll do fine. STUDY!!!!!
i took the class from her 2 times and got F for both of them. A lot of homework. tests are hard. she takes attendence. do not be late. she is ok in class but not with the grades. i would never take her again.
she is great.I m so regret that i didnt take her for HST.1 you will get a lot if you choose her class. she is passionate and soooonice. Do the work you will get an A. she gave us all what we need to know for the test so just STUDY!!
she is very nice and is passionate about art. only 2 tests plus the final, one quiz, one museum assignment and research paper. listen to her lectures and look at the website before her tests and you will do well!!! highly recommend!!!
Wonderful professor. Loves art and makes lectures very interesting. Presents alot of information on art works/methods. Tests and assignments are not difficult. Definitely recommend.
i think she is the best art history teacher who makes history not that boring. i took hoover's in history 1 but not really help.tests she gives only 3 includiing final. and do few essays unless u wanna extra credit u can do extra essay. in class u write down some notes from the artwork she picked to discuss.those will be the answers for ur tests.
This Professor is one of the best in the SAC Art department as far as I'm concerned. She's a very professional and educated Professor. I highly recommend her.
I'm seriously infatuated with her.... soooo hot!
Nice and wonderful instructor. Extremely HELPFUL.
Dr. Schafter is a wonderful professor! She is passionate about art, which comes through in her lectures. She is also very helpful. Take good notes, study for the exams and write a thoroughly researched essay for an easy A.
Excellent professor! Her love for art truly comes through to her students and helps ignite their passions, too. Just be sure and pay attention, follow her online study guides, and write good papers -- then an A shouldn't be a problem.
This was such a great class. The teacher really got u into the art & I loved going to class. It can be difficult at times & a lot of memorizing. Try 2 make up a story 2 remember the art piece. I would definately take this teacher again. She has a great sense of humor & made it so much fun. She's made me want 2 change my major to arts!
GREAT PROFESSOR! SHE BEGINS SPEAKING ABOUT THE ART & GETS YOU SO INTERESTED IN IT BEFORE YOU REALIZE, WRITE SOME NOTES! IF I HAD TO TAKE ANOTHER ART CLASS I WOULD DEFINITELY TAKE HER AGAIN. YOU HAVE A MUSEUM RESEARCH PAPER, REVIEW QUESTIONS FOR SELECTED CHAPTERS AND REMEMBER YOUR ART, STYLES, DATES, AND ARTISTS FOR SELECTED PIECES.
GREAT professor!!! I failed this course at texas state and HATED art. she made it so interesting. she will go out of her way to work with you and help you in any way she can. you have a museum paper, research paper, 3 chapter review response papers, 2 exams and then the final. she also offers extra credit. highly recommended!!!
Wonderful teacher. She keeps you so interested for the whole class you don't realize time is up. Would reconmend her for everyone. Awesome women.
Dr. Schafter knows her stuff. It was an easy class if you showed up and paid attention. I didn't study much at all because her lecture was so interesting. She posts chapter review questions that you have to alternate answering and the papers she had us write turned out to be more interesting than I would have thought. Her class is incredibly enjoya
A passionate lady who cares if her students "get it". Assignments every week, reading is enjoyable - in 3 colleges so far, she was in the top 3 professors - One book, fun researching on internet, 2 projects, both very interesting - lots of work but worth it as you will love art afterwards! A+, ONLINE ROCKS!
If Art is NOT your major I would not recommend taking Art Survey II, the course was too advanced so the work was difficult. Artistic vocabulary is a must.
I found Professor Shafter to be a bit rude, when either grading my hw or responding to post on the PALS/LISTSERV. There were several times she accidentally sent out student's graded hw to the entire class.I love art, but this chick is crazy- I agree with the comment about knowing artistic terms-IT IS A MUST if you want to pass this class.
A super passionate lady, even non-art majors should appreciate that. DON'T do the optional service-learning internship if art is not your life. I'm pre-med and I genuinely enjoy art but Artpace was the biggest waste of my time. I should have just spent it working.
She was very nice and helpful. I had her for Art 1301 and I got an A in her class, passing is easy just do the work and study and you will pass. Also do the extra credit it helps a lot! She's also is very nice and accepts late work which in college most professors don't...she does take off a few points but its better than a zero.
her class is extremely easy but people usually blow off the reading. she like to have people read ahead and answer her question in class. the material is very basic and easy too. she grades so easy too, as long as u can prove that what u wrotes makes sense to you, you get credit
Love this professor! Her lectures are totally engaging. She makes it interesting. Dont worry if you dont know anything about art. I was the same but by the end of the semester she asked that my final paper be in the Spring 11 Symposium. I recommend 1304 over 1303. Take Schafter :D
Excellent teacher! She is a wonderful storyteller, even if the subject is the worst example of pop art, she can adequately describe it and it would be wonderful. I love her lectures and discovered a lot of nice things in Fine Art. Would recommend that course and teacher to everyone.
Amazing teacher, I loved her. She was very helpful and posted all her online lectures for your use. Fun class lost of lectures but everything is interesting so you dont mind listening. I would definately take her again. I wouldnt recommend this class to anyone who doesnt put the time in to study. I would definately take her again.
She is very detailed and her lectures are amazing. She really knows her stuff. Beware though, you have to work hard for your grade, it will not be an easy A. You will have to do a five page essay and a presentation and several other papers. She does offer extra credit though.
Dr. Schafter is amazing. She loves Art and she seems to really enjoy teaching it. Is very helpful and is very willing to help. Note READ YOUR BOOK!!! It will help you tremendously!
She is SUCH an amazing professor. I really enjoyed her class. She does expect a lot out of you but remember, it's college. She's extremely helpful and will work with you if needed. Go to class, keep up with the reading, study occasionally and you'll do well. Passed with an A :)
I loved her, loved her class. just don't be lazy and you'll do great. GET EVERYTHING DONE, DON'T PROCRASTINATE
If Art is not your major, do not take Art History II. Easily the hardest class this semester, and it's supposed to be an elective for me. Professor Schafter is so nice, and she makes learning this stuff fun. I had to drop the class for health purposes, but I'm kind of glad I did. This class is not for those who want an easy elective class.
I had a really hard time with this class. I'm not a very artistic person so the amount of art knowledge needed for this class completely made getting a good grade in her class hard. If you are not an art person--DO NOT TAKE HER!
Dr. Schafter is an amazing professor, her interest in the subject, and her kind demeanor made the class incredibly enjoyable. One of the best professors I've met.
I enjoyed this class very much this semester. I was failing at first, but with Dr. Schafter's help, I helped myself to a passing grade. I suggest this class to anyone who understands she is strict with homework only for the students over all education process. Attending class you are sure to pass the class!
Dr. Schafter has to be one of the best professors I have came across. She is really there for the student and tries to make everyone come out of her class with an A. If you decide to take her, know that she plays by the rules. SHOW up to class, DO the extra credit she offers, and READ your book. I highly recommend this professor!
Great Professor! One that I will never forget.
Professor Schafter is one of the greatest teachers I have ever known. I learned so much from her class, and it was very interesting. You have to put forth effort, but at the end it's all worth it. I would definitely take another class from her.
I found her lectures a little boring, but she is incredibly knowledgeable. She gives you 2-3 opportunities for extra credit and you have 3 chapter reviews and 3 tests including the final. The tests are about 20% matching/80% short answer. Just do your work & show up for class & you'll make an easy A.
She's definitely a great teacher & very knowledgeable. She gives multiple chances for extra credit. Made a B because I was lazy. Do your work & study & it's an easy A.
This professor is amazing! I LOVE HER! Her class convinced me to change my major. She is so nice and you learn so much!
Honestly an AmAzInG Professor! Makes herself available to students. I held a strong A+ throughout the class and my major is Business! I didn't know a thing about ART prior to this class. Tests are easy multiple choice + describing works of art. Final is a research paper on your heritage. Please refrain from taking any other professor but her!
Tests over 3 to 4 chapters. know art work and key terms. 1 essay , 1 paper, does offer extra extra credit 2 times during the semester. and 4 chapter reviews.LOTS OF WORK !!!! and a final exam over 4 chapters +midterm !
This Professor is THE REAL DEAL! passionate. intellectual. Just amazing, you'll look and speak about art differently. Xtra credit available, quizzes n research paper is a breeze if you pay attention 2 the terms. When writing your paper just think about how your having a extended conversation w/her on whatever ur writing about. easy on grades.
the professor has own wepage which is keep up to date really well . ! Great Class !one quiz (10%), two semester exams (15% each; 30% total), three chapter response papers (15%), a museum assignment (15%), one research paper (15%), and a final exam (15%).
She is a great teacher and she will help you. Mrs. Schafter gives plenty of time to do the work assignments and still takes up work even after the dead line. I really loved her class:)
Fantastic professor. If you review artwork in the book before class, you can easily get in-class participation. She uses awesome power points that go over the chapters of the textbook, primarily focusing on the images of the artwork and trending architecture. Easy to follow notes, and simple tests if you studied even a little bit.
Professor Schafer is an Easy A if you read the book ! Your grade for this course will be calculated from class participation (10%), four quizzes (20%), one mid-term exam (15%), a museum assignments (20%), a research paper, including a brief presentation (20%), and a final exam (15%
Very great teacher! All her lectures are clear and mostly to the point. She is very passionate about what she teaches, so she really gets you interested in the subject. She's also very helpful and forgiving, if you miss class for any reason, just let her know.
Easy to understand, great lectures. Uses power point effectively and if you know anything about art they are easy tests even if you study briefly. The occasional work is easy to stay on top of if you avoid procrastination. Book is necessary for the 3-4 semester chapter reviews, but not for studying or class reading. Straight forward and great!
In currently* She is an amazing professor and knows her stuff! Tests consist of a few chapters and the final is NOT comprehensive! Make sure you know your artists and dates. She's very lenient on grading. There is a major paper worth part of your grade but she'll help you out if you need it. Take this teacher. You won't regret it!
She is very fair, there are projects but she is clear in what she looks for. Extra credit available.
my very first quiz grade was 40% after... I followed directions carefully and printed out her terms list given from her web page, if you write her definitions for the terms you have it made, she's very helpful and gives extra credit to help you out. my final grade before the final exam was 102.7%, I highly recommend her, easy class if you want it.
ART1303(Art History I 1303): class participation 5%,two quizzes20%, mid-term exam15%, three-chapter response papers15%,one(two-part) museum research paper30%,Final exam15%,extracredit5%dates,art names, specific function MUST be remember on test. a lots of reading and memorize, I would not recommend her class if you are lazy student.
At first I did not understand anything that was being discussed. I "appreciated art" by just looking at it, with no understanding of what I was looking at. At one point I was so distressed that I wanted to drop the class. Dr. Schafter talked me out of it and I am glad she did. She is awesome professor and enjoyed her class. I highly recommend
This class is not for a lazy student, there is a lot to memorize. I enjoyed this class and if you like art you will love it even more. She will work with you all you have to do is ask, she is an awesome professor.
This professor was professional, very organized with her lectures, and straight forward with providing tips/suggestions on how to study for the quizzes and exams.
I would not take her if you do not like art at all... art is not my favorite. She does not make it interesting for me either. She just gives out to much stuff to do. She will be a average professor to me... I would not take her again
If you're into art, then you'll be fine, but if you don't understand art stuff just don't take this class. Her lectures are heavy, moved very fast, she talks a lot about art history, but that don't have nothing with this class and what she asking for on the test. Horrible teaching style and tricky quizzes. I would never take her again.
Great professor, interesting lectures but youll read a lot and tests are tough. You will pass the class if you really pay attention.
Very nice professor. Met her in her office and she actually cares about her students. I hate art, she LOVES art. She makes a good art professor. The course itself is very memorization heavy "Name the Date artwork was produce, style, medium, artist". So you have to actually learn about art.
she helped a non art major understand the basics of art. i learned a lot and it was enough to get a good grade. she does ask questions from the book but if you keep up with everything you can keep up with her class.
Looking for that easy A? You found it. Just listen to the lectures, She tells you the important stuff to know that will be tested on. She gives you the anwsers to the test! Seriously, take this class...
go to class! Listen to lectures, do the papers and you will get an easy A. Very accessable and easy to get along with.
This professor is amazing, grades work usually within the day, really makes every lecture interesting, straight forward grading. 10/10
I am not an art major, I had never taken an art class before and Prof. Schafter really made me understand and appreciate art and art history a lot more! She does expect you to keep up with the reading so you are able to participate in class, so as long as you do that and listen to her lectures/take notes, you will easily pass!
I never appreciated Art before I took this course. Now I feel comfortable going to an Art show or a Museum. More importantly she helped me understand and enjoy Art like I never could before. Thank You professor Schafter.
Gives clear study guide, as long as u study it you will ace the test. Museum paper is easy since she splits it in parts so you do not feel over whelmed. 3 chapter responses but you get to choose 3 questions each chapter. if you do not get a good grade on one of them you can do a different chapter response and she will drop the lowest grade.
be there in class, pay attention lots of test
This professor is amazing! I love her so much as a teacher and a person. She is incredibly passionate about what she does & I've learned so much from her class and can't wait to take another one! She is caring and respectful of her students, even the ones that don't give her the respect back (which breaks my heart). Pay attention and you'll do fine
I never cared for art until i took her art appreciation class. She is very passionate and her lectures are very informative and it all relates to what we need to know. Quizzes are easy if you listened in class. Is always available if you need help. She respects all her students, even the stubborn ones. Lovely person as well.
Professor Schafter is a great professor, super passionate about art. Only thing is, note taking is difficult because she only shows slides with pictures and talk about it, but notes aren't clear at all. Also, quizzes are sort of difficult. LOTS OF VOCAB.
Great teacher, made me really appreciate art and makes lectures interesting. Her class isn't so bad, just make sure you study for tests and quizzes. She does give a lot of extra credit so even if you do mess up you can fix your grade. Would take another art class by her if I could!
Dr. Schafter is a great professor. Her class is not an easy A. However, if you show up and take notes there is not reason you should not pass. She is very passionate about art and you can tell she loves teaching. She does lecture in every class so be ready to TAKE NOTES.
Good teacher but you have to take gooooood notes and sometimes she is not easy to understand. Dont get me wrong she is a good teacher but you cant miss a class because you might miss out on a lot of information. The power points she has only have pictures.
I loved Dr. Schafter's class! Her lectures were why I remembered so much from her class. She made heavy history topics interesting and she was really willing to work with students and help them in any ways she could, even with finding resources on campus. Two big grades are two five page papers, but she helps you with them and gives you guidance.
This class was definitely an easy A! She gave the class two extra credit opportunities that were super easy to accomplish. I didn't take notes once during her class and still made A's on every one of her tests. You really just need to pay attention to her lectures and PowerPoints, and it'll definitely stick with you!
Great teacher 10/10 recommend. Just do the little assignments she gives u and turn them in on time and you will pass
She gives very clear expectations about what she expects. If it's on zoom, you have to be on camera! wanna be her favorite? Read the textbook! She is very reasonable so don't be afraid to come to her with questions about homework or due dates. she cares about you and wants you to succeed!
