Easiest A ever. Very simple to read how to please her. Interesting material. Watch lots of videos. Smart lady. She likes simple writing, so don't bother with flowery essays with big words. Just get to the point.

Her critical thinking class actually changed my life, as she said it would. Her class really does make you a smarter person. Debra CARES about her students and helps them succeed. BEST TEACHER EVER!

She has a great sense of humor and is very good at what she does. I did a lot of writing in this class but it made me better. If you take the time to talk with her, she will help you with anything.

great teacher!!! but not an easy class is writing isn't your thing, ALWAYS their to help students and KNOWS what shes talking about. although a hard teacher..TAKE her!! YOU'LL LEARN ALOT!! and theirs no way you'll get lower than a C+ she'll help you!

The class discussion was a bit dull, but Stevens knows what she's talking about. There's equal amounts of reading and writing if you're not great at one or the other, and if you ask for help she'll be willing to do what she can. Only thing is, she tends to mumble, so if you want to take her class, sit in the front.

Very helpful and clear. Took time to meet with me. Lots of reading, though. I got a B but had to work really hard. She let me rewrite an essay and we got to submit one assignment late, so that was good. Some interesting discussions.

I took this during a summer semester & it was like high-school class. Stevens is a friendly, intelligent person. Nevertheless, as most of my English teachers have, she gave rather lame assignments. Listening to the lectures & reading the books lightly should earn you an A on any quiz or test she issues, assuming your English is at least 2nd-rate.

One of the Best at DVC. Very kind and helpful.. Beware Don't expect her to do your work for you-you must put in time/effort and be diligent! ask her if you have questions and do meet with her after class! her sarcasm can be very funny though it may offend some. Great person and quite intelligent.

Mrs. Steven's was one teacher that I will never forget. The assignments were fun but hard! She taught us to always authenicate any person of value. Her main premisis was to teach us to not judge a book by it's cover! Enjoy her class, I sure did!

When you ask he for help she will give it. She has a good smile and I like the way she does not talk down to us when she teaches us. I valued the time she spent with me and her sense of humor.

I agree with what most people say here; she is an amazing teacher who really teaches. I think people should take her class but be sure to get something to keep stuff in and take lots of notes. She passes out lots of handouts. She helped me with my reading and took time to talk to us and explain. I don't think she talked down, but that's just me

This teacher was always there for me. She helped me read better and enjoy reading. Lots of tests and homework. She was fair. VERY fair. Do not let people that are failing make you miss a good teacher

Best teacher I have had so far. Third semester. I am an older woman, 28, with a child and she made me feel comfortable. I didn't like her at first but then I warmed up to her when she started discussing her own community college experience. 25 year teaching and a UC. Berkeley professor with no attitude. Take her.

She was so amazing. I was one of those students who was turned off to the whole business of writing papers. I admit that I had a bad attitude and that came from my experience with English teachers who seemed to just be there to get a paycheck. Ms. Stevens is not that person. Her quizzes are fair and her instructions are clear. Take her class.

She is the best English teacher i ever had hands down. Her lectures were interactive and fun, if you participate in class i promise you will get an A. Highly recommended. i took it over summer in a 6 week course btw. attendance isn't mandatory but it kinda is because you'll be tested on class material.

I can't say enough about this class. Professor Stevens taught all of us the same way. She did not have any favorites and was there for all of us. She really cares about her students. The work is the normal kind of thing. The class is not. You will be expected to participate and should prepare for it. If you do, you'll have a good time, learn a lot

Ms. Stevens cares about her classes and wants to help her students succeed, and is willing to spend extra time going over material. All the assignments and quizzes are outlined in the syllabus so you know when everything is due. Do the reading and come to class and you'll do fine.

Although I only got a B, it was not her fault. I took too many classes, so scare you when I say I only a B. I thought this was going to be a logic class, but she is so creative in the way she explains and demonstrates idea. Some days were simply awesome. Our class was so connected and happy. We all loved Ms. Stevens and know you will too.

She is one of the best professor at DVC and I highly recommended her class for international ... This teacher is just about the best I have ever had.

As a special need student I had to require time in office hour but sometimes we met outside. Mrs. Stevens is a shining light for me and not only but she really is nice and I selected hilarious because she is funny and caring

I learned to read, write and think. I come from Japan and am here for one year. I do not think she is "hilarious." She is not emotional or ridiculous. The book Mosaics was better than the green book, but I learned vocabluary and critical thinking. I think this teacher is funny but not hilarious. Her syllabus is clear, besides what other people say.

I am taking her class now and it is awesome. And I am not an A student in English. She is brilliant and teaching me more than I have learned in the last year in my other classes. And she really cares about her students.

More than anything this teacher gives you good feedback and makes you listen. She really makes us think and keeps us thinking. Besides that, she is so funny! Take her and you will learn and have fun. The whole class this semester is having a good time and we are learning so much. MORE than I expected.

We had lots of fun but she is so intense. I am a Chinese student learning English. She was kind and encouraging.

I just saw my grade and she sent me my scores after the class was ended. I don't think I did as well as I could've if I took it in fall or spring but she was so motivating and funny, there for us. Definitely recommend the class.

this was an excellent class! What I learned in this class will be valuable for the rest of my college career. It focused on how to write a paper and gave me skills which will be useful in any paper I will have to write in the future. I think Ms. Stevens is an excellent asset to Diablo Valley College and should be teaching more classes.

My best teacher ever, and I wish I could have her again

This teacher was so kind and helpful. She is funny but never makes fun of students. She likes us and encourages us to improve. Her sense of humor makes the class want to come to class. Even though her computer didn't work, she bought another and connections but they were stolen. She didn't make a big deal out of it. We really liked her.

She's tough, but she cares. As long as you do the work you will do fine. She will work with you if you need extra help just go to office hours.

I am half way in and a foreign language student. I do not agree that she cannot relate to others. She spoke three languages with me and we were very respectful. I don not think she was disrespectful at all

The students in my class are all very willing to work with her and she is so enjoyable. Her textbook is not difficult. The textbook is really helpful and she lets us use the PDF to save money.

quality work uc berk grad wrote the critical thinking book and down to earth informed and makes us think critically. wish I had her in high school.

Mrs. Stevens made a diffence. She was clear about assignments so I disagree with the last guy who posted. Her way of teaching is unusual but you get used to it. Seh talks with us, gives us her priortiy and cares about teaching us to think before we react. I learned more in here class than any others. My favorite teacher at DVC

I would recommend Mrs. Stevens highly. I am an international student like others. She is brilliant and caring. I AGREE! Mrs. Stevens is also kind and compassionate. I have never had a teacher so wonderful.

My girlfriend and myself think she is such a great teacher. We just loved her class. You should take her class and see what we mean. We were totally into the class. She makes us think by asking us questions. Really funny. Great teacher who really makes learning fun.

I like the way she teaches. People who are anti-Stevens should wait and compare her to the other liberals on the English department faculty. Stevens doesn't do politics, treats us all with equal respect.

She is kinda boring at times but very nice. You will have to buy her book that she made. It has basically everything she teaches in the course and some homework assignments. There is about 5 assignments. 2 essays one research and one on the book we read 1984. 4 quizzes and one final exam. If you try you will pass. she gives a lot of feedback.

I took Professor Stevens for two classes and learned a lot. She cares about her students and will go the extra lengths to help them succeed. Definitely take her. You will not be disappointed.

Were shifting from class to online. So far she has been so much more helpful and is contacting us than my other teachers. Mrs. Stevens promised she would stay in close contact with all of our class and she is. Before in class she was so clear and I don't agree she was not organized. She let's us make choices and share our thoughts.

She is a delight and clear and accessible. I am 32 years old and just returning to school. She took time to meet with me and was never disrespectful or judeging like some teachers are.
