She likes to go off topic so you'd have to look at the powerpoint yourself. Easy class. Get your gym hours on your own. 4 tests, 2 quizzes. Nice lady
Dr. Sutton has a very awkward sense of humor, but class is usually enjoyable. However, she is heartless when it comes to students misunderstanding assignments or missing class due to illness. Just do your work and study before every test and you'll be fine.
Dr. Sutton is a great professor. If you are rude and disrespectful to her, she will act the same way to you. If you show interest in her class, she'll be your best friend. Pay attention in class and you'll learn a lot. It's a challenging course, but if you're interested in learning the material, she's the best GHLTH teacher.
Dr. Sutton is a nice lady! Very approachable and friendly. Since she is the one that created the class, she did expect us to know our material for the exams. Make sure you go to class; she will tell you some parts of the exams. READ THE TEXTBOOK & OUTLINES. Do not wait until the last minute to study!!! Get ready to see her condom collection!
Sutton's a nice person, and her class was decent. She doesn't get through all the info in class so you have to learn some stuff by yourself, but her class is at least somewhat entertaining. Tests can be hard because she wants you to know the medical facts, and doesn't ask about common-sense stuff like some other GHTH professors do.
Regular health assignments (passport and wellness log). Study up for exams, challenging if you don't read the book well. Lectures aren't helpful as long as you read the book and look over power points before exams. Can only miss 4 classes, if you miss more than 4 you can't get better than an C for the course.
Sutton is actually a really down to earth cool teacher. She made class interesting and I gained a lot of knowledge from it. You have to attend 4 passport events (do them early and they wont be a problem) and have to attend 25 hours at UREC over the semester. Not hard. 4 Exams aren't terrible if you take the time to study. Overall, I loved the class
I loved Sutton! She is definitely quirky, which makes her classes hilarious! She posts outlines and powerpoints online for each chapter, readings were not terrible as long as you space them out. Tests were pretty easy as long as you studied and went to class. She takes info from lectures and uses on the tests. Overall, great professor!!
I actually really enjoyed her lecture, and overall, she was my favorite class last semester. She lectures and gives hints on what questions are on the test, her test cover all the material so study the book, outlines, and pay attention in lecture. The final wasn't cumulative so that was extremely nice. Go to the gym, do passport events, and study
Dr. Sutton is a quirky character. Her lectures are kind of boring but she can be funny. Her tests are pretty difficult even with studying. She makes everything pretty clear. She takes attendance each class.
She gets off topic very often, causing her to not finish getting through the power points. When this happens she just clicks through the rest and says "Now you've seen them they will be on the test." I am an A student and I can't get an A on her tests because they are so nitpicky and long (100 questions)and the true false always throws me off.
Four tests including the final, not cumulative. Go to class because she hints at a lot of points and gives away a ton of test questions. Tests are easy but definitely not impossible. 100 points and scantron. Pretty funny stories. It could be much more boring. Textbook didnt mean much and review mostly inclass notes.
Not the best but not the worst either. She rambles a lot in class but hints at future test answers often. She gives in class assignments so you don't want to skip class too much. You are allowed a few skips.
Dr. Sutton makes Heath interesting with her quirky personality and ability to make her students laugh. She points out everything in the power points that will be on the test. There are only 4 tests but a lot of assignments which are all easy 100's. I defieitely reccomend Dr. Sutton, she makes class fun.
Worst Professor at JMU by far. She is extremely rude and unprofessional. She will make students feel stupid for asking questions. She tells stupid stories that don't matter during class, taking up all the time, then quickly clicks through the PP, to say 'we've seen it', and she doesn't post PP. Also, not allowed to leave the room, no matter what
Okay Deb is da bomb. She is so funny and has a great story to share every class. Yes, its Hth 100, BUT, its still a gen ed. Take it seriously. An A is very possible to get, but on average, most get Bs. People just chill in the class and expect the answers to come to them, but unless you know a LOT about health, learn the material. Such a funny gal.
One of the worst professors I have ever taken. Class is boring and not helpful yet there is an attendance policy. Dr. Sutton is the farthest thing from friendly and if you get on her bad side, your grade will be affected by her judgmental attitude.
She's not a bad person, in fact she is actually quite entertaining. But her lectures get off topic very easily and sometimes I honestly did not learn anything. You also can't miss class or else your grade goes down a whole letter grade. TESTS ARE SO HARD. You have to know EVERYTHING. I would not recommend taking health with her.
Sutton is crazy, but she knows what she's talking about. She is definitely passionate about health, and is very enthusiastic in lecture. Tests can go into extreme detail, so make sure you go to class and make note of everything she says. Complete all the assignments and try to pay attention as much as possible. A B- is easily attainable.
Dr. Sutton is a little koo koo bananas, but she's a good professor. She passes around an attendance sheet, so go to class. 4 tests, not hard at all. During lectures she'll hint attell you what to study and know for certain sections of the test. The textbook is helpful, but not necessary. Overall a very entertaining class.
Overall this was a pretty easy class. Sutton's kinda quirky, but I liked her a lot as a professor. She's nice and she cares. Assignments are easy. Only 4 tests (final is not cumulative, it's just the 4th test). She gives hints as to what information is going to be tested. Questions are all multiple choice, tf, and matching. Not hard at all.
I laughed a lot during Dr. Sutton's class, expect for exam days. They are full of information that must be studied (her outlines especially) in order to do "well." She's quirky.
Terrible teacher, terrible lady. Vague instructions with extremely hard tests. 75 questions in sixty minutes for a gen ed? Are you fricken kidding me?? Awful choice for Summer course. Sure learned my lesson to never even utter that darn lady's name ever again. THANKS FOR NOTHING JERK! Enroll with someone else.
Professor Sutton is one of a kind. She tells some stories that you wish you did not hear. But that being said she's interesting and you will learn something. It's health so can relate to whatever the topic is. The tests aren't a complete walk in the park, but she gives a lot of hints during class of what's going to be on them.
All PowerPoints are posted online after class so no need to worry about writing down every word during class. Attendance is mandatory, but she always has hilarious stories to go along with the material. Also gives "hints" (tells you flat out) what will be questions on the test, plus the tests are extremely straight forward!
Dr. Sutton is hilarious! Attendance is mandatory, but she makes class so interesting you won't mind. Lectures are accompanied with powerpoints that she posts online. four 100 question exams are given each semester but if you pay attention in class & read the chapters, it's a breeze. She also tells you atleast 5 questions that will be on the test.
I absolutely loved this class. Dr. Sutton is so funny and actually knows what she's talking about. Her tests are straight forward, but you need to study or you won't do well. She gives 4 tests too which is a bonus. We also have mandatory gym hours (25) for the semester and 4 Passports but they boost ur grade. TAKE THIS CLASS ITS GREAT!!!!
She's crazy. Her exams aren't the easiest because she barely teaches. But she's funny. I would definitely read the chapters and take notes.
Her HTH class is a mandatory GenEd, but I wouldn't say it was one of my favorites. She's a little out there and strange, but she was very helpful when it came test time. She'll tell you the answers to the tests during lectures, so as long as you're in class your good. Gym hours suck and passport events suck even more. Good luck!
The tests are over a few chapters but she's very vague over what she wants you to know. There is homework for almost every class but it isn't too bad. It can boost your grade a lot and ends up on the tests. Most of her lecturing is about her life so make sure you read the book to know whats on the tests. Attendance is mandatory.
Oh Debra. She is one of my favorite professors I have had so far. She is unintentionally hilarious and crazy. She's very reasonable. Discussion questions due every class, five in class news assignments, she drops the lowest, there's four tests, not too hard as long as you study and have basic medical knowledge.
Dr. Sutton knew how to make the lectures interesting with all her weird funny stories. The tests aren't bad and she puts the powerpoints online. Attendance is taken and recommended if you want a good grade. I would definitely recommend her.
Dr. Sutton is my favorite professor that I had this semester! She's hilarious, which helps take the awkwardness away from some of the topics. She takes daily attendance but she gives you the answers to questions on her exams which is really nice. 4 exams, 4 passports, 25 gym hours, and a pre- and post-wellness but a lot of the points are easy
If you show up to class, she has you write down random acronyms and facts that will become test questions, so it's worth going. Tests are a little hard to prepare for because you need to memorize pointless stuff. She's funny, though. She extended a couple of deadlines for us which was nice.
You don't need the textbook to pass the class, don't waste your money. She posts the power points from the lectures online. Go to class, its mandatory, you only get a few misses or all you can get is a C, and she drops information that will be on tests. She's kinda funny sometimes, really annoying other times. Tests aren't hard, just prepare.
Dr. Sutton is a nice person, but in class she makes you feel small. She's very condescending and expects her students to always be wrong whether they're right or not. Her tests are long and she's not clear about what she wants on her exams.
Health teacher that 100% makes you work for your grade but is never there to help you get there. You have to attend class or else your grade will go down an entire letter grade after 3 absences. Lectures are really confusing and you basically teach yourself + you must read the textbook because she gets her test questions from the minor details.
This class is easy to get an A in, just don't forget to do once of the many trivial and pointless assignments. She comes off as really preppy and helpful, but she's not. I got injured and tried to talk to her about the hours and she didn't want to work with me on that. She's rude with a smile. Can be really easy A. Tests are 100 q's multiple choice
I took her for HTH 100 and her infectious disease class (I think it's HTH 230) and absolutely loved her. As long as you show up to class she gives you the answers for half of the tests! I don't see how anyone on here can say that her exams are hard. 30 minutes of studying and I got high B's/low A's. She keeps lectures interesting too.
Sutton is a very interesting professor. The lectures are entertaining, humorous, and she usually gives you a ton of answers for the exams if you show up to class.
Sutton is a really fair and reasonable professor. I learned a lot of useful information in her class that I actually use in everyday life. Go to class, take notes, and do all of the other little assignments and you'll be fine. Take her!!
She's very nice and very passionate about the subject. She has a no electronic policy and her lectures are kind of boring. I learned more from the textbook than her lectures but most of the material is self explanatory. She made certain topics more interesting than others but her assignments and tests were easy, as long as you follow the directions
Dr. Sutton was one of my favorite professors at JMU. She really tries to keep the class engaged with funny examples and videos. HTH100 is a mandatory class for all students and I would definitely recommend Dr. S. for this class. Her tests are tough but if you go to class, pay attention, and write down what she says you will be fine.
very weird lady but the class is very simple. take good notes and read the chapters before exams and you're good. just sucks the exams are 100 mc. other assignments are department wide so you have to do them no matter who you have just time consuming.
Debra is pretty cool, but she wasn't too willing to work with me when I had to miss a few classes because I was in the hospital. All the powerpoints are from the textbook and she posts them online. Just make sure you go to urec and get your passports done early. She's also pretty clear about what some test questions will be.
She lectured about completely irrelevant things and would take up most of the class telling personal anecdotes. A lot of the test questions came from very specific details from her lecture or trivial things she skipped over. She is rude and not very helpful. Overall, not a super challenging class but painful to sit through the lectures.
I have a love/hate relationship with Dr. Sutton. She is super sweet and funny but does not teach at all during class. She loves to chat and I have to teach myself everything from the textbook and powerpoints. She also doesn't give clear rubrics for projects, so definitely go to office hours for confirmation. The class is easy but teach yourself.
Super easy class!
I don't like Dr. Sutton as a professor. She is very uptight about an attendance policy, does a poor job of lecturing (shares mostly anecdotal stories), and you pretty much have to teach yourself if you'd like a good grade. Take someone else if you have the chance to.
As long as you pay attention in class and actually study it's a very easy class. She makes a boring subject really interesting.
If you go to class and pay attention, you can do fine. She tells you some info that isn't on the powerpoint that'll be on the test. Its very hard to pay attention in class and majority of the class is her personal stories. Geeky person but gets too much sometimes. 4 noncumulative tests and wellness log & passports are a chore but she reminds you.
I really enjoyed being in her class. She's quirky and peculiar, which makes her lectures engaging. There is quite a lot of work outside class, and her tests are not easy. Come to class, study and be engaged, and you'll end with an A.
Very quirky but funny. Tests are easy if you go to class and read the textbook, didn't score lower than a 86 and I'm not a good test taker. Easy B but with minimal work you can get an A
Dr. Sutton talks about her personal life and stories and has said some very interesting things in class that seem a little out of the ordinary. She can be sometimes too much to handle but as long as you take notes on the PowerPoints and read a little you should do well.
Sutton is an interesting individual, but by the end of the semester I ended up really disliking her class. She's funny, but that's about it. Gives personal anecdotes that are irrelevant then speeds through ppt's. Also once told the class that no one was allowed to leave and use the restroom... I mean, you learn. Is it worth it though?
Sutton is an interesting woman. She goes very fast in lectures and the exams can be hard if you don't read all the chapters and study all of the powerpoints. In my opinion it's more difficult than a gen-ed should be.
Sutton is one of the most amusing professors I've ever had. She is not afraid to embarrass herself a little bit to get a laugh. The class was harder than it should have been as a gen ed, but I averaged n 80 on the 4 exams. I'd recommend taking her.
Don't miss class more than 5 times (use those 5 tho). Really focus on reading the textbook and taking notes bc thats where most test questions come from. Once you get to the alcohol and sex chapter she gets really funny. She is wildly entertaining for sure! Obviously do your 4 passports and wellness log and you will do fine! An A is very possible.
Sutton is a weird lady, she's entertaining but trails off a lot and doesn't cover all of the material she needs to. I wouldn't take her again but if she's your best option go for it. You really have to read the book and understand the powerpoints and WRITE DOWN WHAT SHE SAYS and you'll be fine for the test.
Professor Sutton is a little weird at times but always has very interesting stories to share with the class. Most of the material is pretty boring but she does really try to make it enjoyable. Tests are 100 questions with multiple choice, T/F, and matching. Typically she will tell you specific things to study during class, so pay attention.
She gives 0s if you get ONE QUESTION WRONG or you aren't specific. Goes off on random stories about irrelevant things in her past. Dramatic.
Professor Sutton lectures are very off topic and you are expected to read everything from the book instead of being taught. She doesn't answer questions during tests or quizzes and you are expected to know a lot of unnecessary information that does not pertain to the class. I would not recommend taking her class, she was my only option.
It's only three weeks into the semester and I really dislike this lady. Tests are mainly from the textbook/slides, but loves to add irrelevant questions on it to see if you've been listening. If you can, take a different professor, or take kin.
Professor Sutton's class is painful but manageable. She only gets through about 5 Powerpoint slides in class (out of 50) because she goes off on random tangents, then expects you to teach yourself out of class. She also only allows 4 skips (including excused), and then your grade will be dropped a letter, which is pretty ridiculous for a gen ed.
Good class, very informative. Dr. Sutton is very knowledgeable and tests are not hard. Graded assignments are given "randomly" throughout the semester, but she gives you a hint and drops the lowest one.
Her lectures are extremely painful. She goes through them fast and goes off on random topics. You have to read the textbook and teach yourself. No phones and laptops allowed which makes it worse. Attendance is mandatory (4 absences and the highest grade you can recieve is a C). Not the best pick for a gen ed class.
This class is a ton of information but she tells you exactly what you need to know for the tests. The tests are straight from the powerpoint and review questions and she gives you a study guide of exactly what will be on it . She gives weekly quizzes on articles but they are usually very short and easy
She'll go on tangents that are irrelevant to the topic, and then rush in the last five minutes of class to tell us the important information that should have been covered in class.
Dr. Sutton is a little out there and does go off on tangents but she is very knowledgeable. She does her best to help you and is very fair. There are only 3 tests including the final that isn't cumulative. Overall pretty easy class. It is boring because it is mostly common knowledge though
Probably the worst class I've taken so far at JMU. You can learn the material on your own but classes are the worst. Sutton literally spends 30 minutes on one slide, goes on a rant, and then rushes through the next 10 slides saying they're not important, but somehow they always show up on the test. Please save yourself and take another teacher.
She is really nice! Yes, her lectures can be a little dry somedays, but if you read the textbook and review the powerpoint slides you get a good grade. Just answer the objectives on the front page of the chapter to review.
Your allowed to miss class 4 times during semester however going to class is pretty pointless. All the information that is on the tests is in the textbook and powerpoints. She usually goes off track during lecture and talks about random things. There are four tests each of 100 questions. None are cumulative. Not the best teacher but not the worst
Sutton can ramble a lot in her lectures and it is hard to study for her tests because the questions are all over the place. She was rude the students multiple times. She also gets really mad if you miss class even though she has been late and absent to her own class.
She's rough at times but just do the work and study and you wont have anything to worry about, I didn't really look at the textbook but needed it occasionally. Tells you whats on the tests, and when assignments are due.
Debra is a very good teacher. She seems kinda crazy sometimes but she's literally so funny. Her tests are pretty difficult, so go to class and study and you'll be fine. I would take her class again! the book is useless if you take her, so don't buy it.
This class was really annoying. There's a lot of information for the tests but she just plays videos half of class periods and clicks through the slides fast. Tests aren't super hard just a lot of information and the t/f and matching can be tricky. Not the best but not the worst. She won't let you use the bathroom during class which is annoying.
Sutton is the funniest teacher i have ever had at JMU. She can get a little off track at times, but she makes up for it by telling a hilarious story. The class is easy if you do your work CORRECTLY and study EVERYTHING. Including really specific stuff that you wouldn' think would be on the test. Oh & her TA this year was hot as hell, if that helps.
Her northern accent, weird laugh, & off topic stories seem cute at first but by the second week she loses her charm. She talks the ENTIRE class, an hour & 15 min of Deb telling stories that only slightly go with the topic. Wouldn't complain if the 4 exams weren't based off the powerpoints that she never gets through & makes you have to review later
she's cool if you can get past some quirky characteristics, one of the better HTH 100 classes!
Professor Sutton is very passionate about what she teaches. You can tell she cares a lot about her students and the material she covers. If you turn in all of your passports by the first deadline then she will help you out. She also likes to give hints in her lectures about good testing material so the tests are straight forward.
A good professor, but very rude. After we took the first exam, I noticed that I had a 0 in the gradebook & when attempting to talk to her about it, she was very snobby and said that I did not take it/could not retake it. After going to her office and finding my scantron MYSELF, I realized how rude/doubtful she could be for no reason.
She's not a nice person. I had doctors appointments throughout the semester and had to miss class twice for them; both absences were unexcused even with a doctors note. Missing four classes gets you a C for the semester. She doesn't understand that this is a gen ed class, like chill.
Takes attendance yet spends most of the lecture talking about things not related to the exam. Spends 45 minutes on one slide, then zooms through the rest of the slides because she realizes she talked for way too long. Study for the exams and make sure to do passport events and don't lie about logging hours!!
Very scattered, goes on tangents. She knows the information well but doesnt do the best job at teaching it well to the students. Her tests are straightforward but very specific so you definitely need to read.
Pretty straightforward course, just do the work and you will get a good grade and don't procrastinate the passport events. She's a really entertaining teacher who won't hesitate to tell you everything about her life
Professor Sutton really is an awesome person and a great teacher. As she goes through the slides, she tells you what "might" be on the test, what statistics and charts you should really study, as well as keep you updated on long-term assignments like the passports and logs. Overall, if you read, go to class, and pay attention, you'll do great.
Professor Sutton is a great person but not a great professor. She gives lectures word for word from her slides so you wouldn't need to go to class if she didn't require an attendance sheet to be signed every class. The only pro of suffering through her boring lectures is she tells you what some exam questions will be and it's an easy A class.
She is a very eccentric teacher. She is obviously very passionate about teaching and really wants students learn and retain information. She will tell you what to write down in class that will show up on a test. Her tests are very straightforward if you read the powerpoints and scan the textbook. Not a hard class at all.
4 tests all straight from the powerpoints and questions come straight from the book. Easy grade if you pay attention and study for the tests
LOVE HER. yes, shes a little strange, but she loves to teach this class. always clear grading criteria. this is not an easy A but def not a difficult class if you put in a reasonable amount of work. tests are always very fair and she will give a few points back. you have to have patience with her but she wants all of her students to succeed
I was a little uneasy about her at first, but once the was class in full swing she was awesome. Definitely, go to class because she will give hints of whats on the exam. All of her exams are fair. She gives a guide of how many questions and what kind of questions will be on the exam. HIGHLY recommend her!!!!
Dr. Sutton spends most of the lecture talking about random stories and spends too much time on one slide and then speeds through everything else. She takes up the first 30 of class talking about the passport assignment, when everyone fully understood her the first time. Although she is very funny, and gives study guides. A lot of repetition.
Straight geek. Shes extremely entertaining, spent the entire time making fun of her. Didnt study once and I passed with a solid B. Just do your stuff and follow directions and your straight
I honestly don't understand how her rating isn't higher. Yes she can be snarky about technology and attendance, but she is very funny and wants you to learn. She announces when an exam question is on a slide and highlights other questions in red. Plenty of small assignments to boost your grade and sign up for passports EARLY! Makes for less stress.
Dr. Sutton is a nice lady. She makes the lecture fun by incorporating her personality into them, however, she goes off topic a lot. She focuses on stupid stuff (like the final exam schedule) for half the class then we have to rush through the rest of the notes. You will have to study/learn the material during your own time.
Does not listen to or understand her students. If you don't quite get something, she is difficult to talk to or get further directions from. Harsh grader, hard tests, extreme attendance policies. Class is interesting sometimes, but you could mostly teach it to yourself from powerpoints (which she posts online because she flies through them.)
Didn't like Sutton at first. Once the semester went on I started to like her more bc she is a very funny lady. However, many times I did get annoyed because she would waste time in class talking about the health passport or wellness hour log instead of focusing on the content. Make sure to study for the tests because they are actually kind of hard.
Prof. Sutton was really great and you could tell she cared about what she was teaching. She did get a bit off topic at times but always gave hints on specific questions that would be on the test. The attendance policy is for the entire health department so it is mandatory. Just follow directions and go over powerpoint for the test and its an easy A
I enjoyed taking this class with Dr. Sutton. She lectures very heavily but some days she was funny and the class was interesting. All assignments are easy A's, except for the exams (4 exams each 100 questions). Going to class helps because she gives out hints of things that will be on the test.
Sweet lady that cares about the topic and students. Tells lots of interesting stories during lectures and is sometimes funny. Test material comes straight from the textbook and her ppts, and if you go to class she gives lots of hints on what she specifically wants you to know for the exams. Tests are easy if you study the material she gives you
This class was so strange. She often goes off on tangents and the tests are kind of hard because she puts so much information on them it is hard to retain it all. There are no quizzes so you have very few grades that make up your overall grade. You have to go to class because she takes attendance even though it is a class in a big lecture hall.
She is very sweet- a little out there and interesting to say the least, but not a hard class. Get the passports done early because those get filled up quick, and don't skip because attendance counts. 1-2 readings due a week, but a very enjoyable basic health class.
Overall, this course is not bad at all. The tests are straight from the lectures (powerpoints posted on Canvas), and she knows her stuff. The Passport events and UREC hours are the only assignments that get annoying and can get in the way of other things students need to complete for other courses. She is very funny and has a lot of experience!
This class is not hard if you show up and take notes. Her lectures are super strange at times, she gives a lot of her own personal stories which are funny. BUT she is super unapproachable, and very unreasonable when it comes to anything to help accommodate you. For being so outgoing in lectures she is the most impersonal person ever
Literally tells you some of the questions that will be on the tests during her lectures. Tells really weird stories that are super personal. Ask her about her condom collection. Tests weren't bad but some time needs to be put in for studying. Don't forget about your hours at UREC or your passports!!!!
Professor Sutton is crazy. The stories you will hear in this class will absolutely blow your mind. Although she's a little odd, her class isn't awful and isn't that hard to get a good grade in. If you are in class she basically gives you the answers to the tests, so don't skip.
Sutton is an oddball. She paces the room and shares personal stories with the class, but overall not unbearable. I rarely opened the textbook and the exams were fine. Go to class and write down everything she says because she gives away test questions. 4 exams, UREC hours, 4 passport events, 3-4 assignments, and 2 extra credit opportunities.
3 exams and a noncumulative final. allowed to miss 5 classes w/o losing pts. have to do a wellness log (just 25 hrs @ urec for the sem. NOT HARD). 10 extra credit pts given!go to class, she tells you what's on the test and what to write down! I never read the book, but ALWAYS studied the powerpoints she made. solid choice for hth 100 10/10 rec!!!
She gets side tracked easily, she'll talk and talk for 30 mins about one assignment and then teach. She tells you what's on the test sometimes, lectures are really boring, and it was a somewhat difficult class. You really have to study the powerpoints she has on canvas to get an A. I always would get C's on her test, but still managed to get a B.
go to class! she gives a lot of test questions in class. she gets off topic a lot and has all these weird stories but if you study the power points you will be fine. I never used the textbook and got an A in the class. she's funny and has good intentions.
First class, she ranted about attendance for almost the whole class, and I did not have a positive impression. As the year went on, I realized that she is a funny professor and does want her students to succeed. Almost half the class is anecdotes from her life though, and she needs to shorten those a bit. Not an incredible teacher, but recommended.
You have to go to class because a lot of what she says in class is on the test. She gives you the tools to succeed she's just sort of quirky and not everyone's cup of tea.
I dreaded going to class. She would read the same powerpoint slide for 30 minutes and then skip through most of the slides because we would run out of time. Is very snippy and rude to students. She is extremely degrading and just likes to be in charge. The class itself was very easy to teach yourself, but I would take another professor if you could
Professor Sutton seemed entertaining at first, but her quirkiness quickly wears off. I respect her passion for health, and her stories can be interesting and funny, but the class borderlines on disgusting at times. She also can be quite degrading to students and assume we're dumb. To her credit, she explicitly mentions some test questions.
Do NOT take this class. Every class she talks about the wellness passports. Before she starts the powerpoints she goes on and on about absolutely nothing and then towards the end of class clicks through the powerpoint really fast because she ate up all her time.
At first I didn't like her but she grew on me. You cant skip more than 5 classes without a penalty. A couple homework things that you have to do (wellness passports and physical activity log) If you go to class and take notes you'll pass. She gives a lot of test questions in class. She's nice and funny, tells a lot of stories.
I actually really liked Professor Sutton, she was quirky and got off topic A LOT but it made the class interesting. Her tests are fair as long as you study and she does give some extra credit. However, I didn't like that you had to go outside of class to do the notes because she didn't stay on the slides long enough in class to write down anything.
Would not recommend. Doesn't teach anything in class and says we have to learn off the powerpoint on our own time, spends half the class telling irrelevant stories, yet attendance is mandatory. Pretty degrading towards her students as well and before most exams and assignments acts like we are all stupid. Not too hard of a class but a waste of time
Dr. Sutton is incredibly knowledgeable, but can be irritating, especially after an hour. Her class is easy, but it's very important that you don't miss deadlines. Grades mostly consist of simple assignments that are incredibly tedious, but are essential to success. She's definetly a tolerable professor, but enter the class knowing boredom ensures.
She knows her information, but is not very personable. If you have any issues, you have to go to her office hours. She will not help you in class or talk to you before or after class, she will only talk to you in office hours. There are four tests, each 100 questions so they are a pretty big weight. I didn't think she was very understanding.
pretty easy class but NOT easy A. some topics can be boring but if you get the gist of what she's talking about you'll pass. test are 100 questions all based on powerpoints that she shows in class and post on canvas and stuff she says in class. you also have mini assignments(passports, wellness log, assesment) can be long so don't wait last minute.
Sutton is an interesting person and lectures are kind of all over the place but it is such an easy class because she tells you everything that is on the tests. Attendance is "mandatory" but she allows for five absences--plus going to class means that you'll get the hints she gives for test questions. Gives like 6 extra credit points on tests too.
Really easy class, just show up, take notes, and study. I barely ever looked at the textbook so you can do what you want with that info. I never felt that her lectures were boring or anything, she's a solid prof, I liked her in general.
dr. sutton is the worst teacher ive had hands down. shes goes off on tangents and it makes you wanna lose your mind. her tone on deep topics is so uncalled for and insensitive (laughed about kids dying). her tests make you feel like youre studying to be a doctor when its just a gen ed at least for me. dont take.
This woman is cooky and unclear with directions for assignments. Tests are WAY too hard and long for gen ed that mostly everyone takes. 100 questions. Not hard class but very very boring and doesn't lecture well. No phones allowed. Will give you low grades on assignments you completely correctly then not tell you why. never disliked a prof more.
Deb makes this class harder then it needs to be. If you try you will do fine but you must study for tests. Sutton is not accommodating and she will yell at anyone for anything in the middle of class. She is very condescending. Not all of her projects are Ethical including asking students for medical records.
Entirely too focused on students following directions rather than learning material. Will give a zero on a 100 point assignment if you make one just mistake, like falling one word short of the word count. Intentionally gives stressful, high stakes assignments. Treats adults like kindergartners through paternalistic attendance sheets. No 2nd chances
She will literally tell you what you should know for the test and posts the slides with extra notes in them if you download them. The final is only on the last 3 chapters. Her tests are pretty straightforward from the notes and what she tells you to write down during lecture. She does take attendance but allows 4 or 5 absences. A little rude.
I took this class as a junior and I have never found a Gen Ed teacher to be more condescending towards students, especially during lecture. I feel bad for incoming freshman, not all teachers are like this, I promise! I went to her office hours about an assignment I made a mistake on and left after I was berated and chided for coming to her. Avoid!
Sutton is really enthusiastic & interested in the content. All-or-nothing grading can really hurt you if you're not careful & she is very eccentric & weird (a little condescending at times). Show up if you want to do well - gives away lots of test questions in class. Good study guides & straightforward tests. Do the work, it's really not that hard.
Dr. Sutton was an interesting professor to have. She is really picky with grading so make sure you follow the instructions. Lectures can get really boring at times, but she gives exam questions so definitely go. The material isn't too difficult but she can get specific on exams so studying is necessary. Easy A if you do the work
I really enjoyed Dr. Sutton's class. She is funny and makes class interesting and enjoyable with stories and jokes. The class is so easy. tests are long but questions are simple. There are a few reading quizzes but you dont even need the book for them, save yourself $$ and don't buy it, you won't need it.
A little bit odd. She's very particular on her assignments and isn't afraid to give you a zero. Can miss 5 classes but if you miss more you WILL NOT get higher than a C in class, no matter what. Posts lectures on canvas and gives study guides, follow those and you'll be good for the tests. No need to buy the book, only used once or twice.
She only started actually teaching towards the end of the semester. before that she would just click through a powerpoint and say you can read this on your own time and then tell a story about herself. If you try and go to the bathroom or just leave in general during class, she will probably call you out in front of everybody. do the pre and post
She was absolutely hilarious, I always looked forward to her lectures because of her quirky personality. Class was an easy A, if you did the assignments and studied lecture notes and presentation slides. By far my favorite gened and would definitely take her again.
Dr. Suttons lectures can be hard to listen too, but she takes attendance so you have to show up. she requires a text book but we only had to use it for 2 quizzes because everything else is on her power points, so maybe share a book with someone else.
I like her a lot! Her lectures can be boring, but she was a good infectious disease teacher. Attendance is mandatory, and it is important to go to class because she will tell you things that you should know for the test. Tests are also not bad at all, I recommend her!
Rants about younger generations or talks about herself for most of the class and then tells you to look at the powerpoint yourself instead of going over it during our lecture time, on top of reading the textbook. Very old school. Not a very hard class, just very time consuming and tested my patience with how much I could listen to her rant about us
like almost any other health professor with attendance, rambles in lectures but gives test answers a lot so pay attention, study the powerpoints she uploads to canvas and you'll be fine
This class was so painful. She just lectures the whole time but rambles on about other random things for the first half of class so you really just teach yourself. Not hard, she posts powerpoints on canvas and thats really all you need for the tests.
Sutton isn't a bad choice for 245! Lectures can be a bit boring, but you can tell she really cares about the subject. She tends to go off topic and doesn't give you time to take notes on every slide, so I would print it out/take notes beforehand. Tests are fine if you really study/memorize everything!!
Probably one of the least understanding professors I've ever come into contact with. Her assignments are easy but if you slip up once a little bit you get an automatic 0. I've emailed her multiple times about assignments I've misunderstood and she just sends a syllabus link. Assignment instructions are SO SPECIFIC and unreason. Would NOT recommend.
Talks about the same 3 things in the beginning of each class for 30 minutes then has to skip over slides in the lecture because she runs out of time and tells you to read them later.
She gave us extra credit opportunities that boosted my grade a lot. She isn't the most sympathetic professor but the class is an easy A if you go to class and study the powerpoints before the test. She grades most assignments based on whether or not you followed the directions, so easy 100s on those assignments too.
Easy prof, relates to kids because she tells stories from her days. She's older but very easy. Tells test questions in class and it's impossible not to pass. 5 skips from class. Only down side is she is strict on phone use. 4 exams that are easy and 2 quizzes. I got a B on both take home quizzes without reading the chapters.
Sutton's lectures drag, the only reasons I showed up to all of them is the attendance policy and the fact that she gives out test questions. The way she teaches is just annoying. This class isn't hard if you do all the work, but save yourself the headache if you can.
Dr. Sutton is a mess. She talked about the same 5 things at the beginning of EVERY. SINGLE. CLASS, and then when notes started she would become very distracted and go through the slides quickly. Super boring and attendance is required with no skips. Just overall super annoying. Please skip so you live a better life.
Dr. Sutton is interesting, to say the least. A lot of people didn't like her because she was unusually strict. For example, if we used the bathroom during class, she would call us out in front of the 100 other students. Her exams aren't too bad if you study and she posts the lectures online, but make sure you don't miss class.
I honestly have been to 1 zoom since we moved all online and I still have an A. Pretty easy and there's only a few quizzes and tests but you do have to a workout log and wellness passport but they're not bad. Easy A if you barely even try.
Easy A, but her voice is dreadful to listen to. I stopped reading the textbook and attending zoom lectures about halfway in. Just take someone else if you have the option.
Because of the pandemic, this class moved online. However, Dr. Sutton was very indecisive on keeping the syllabus the same. She changed the syllabus without notifying the students. Also, powerpoints are uploaded to canvas, so really my class lucked out with being able to do everything our own. Just study and do what you're supposed to.
Wonderful teacher. She makes lectures interesting and is very engaging with her students. She is super knowledgeable and I really learned a lot from her. She is super flexible and understanding. Assignments are easy test are a lot of questions but not hard if you know the material. Highly recommend!!!
Sutton is SO nice and she loves her students and loves what she teaches. Her lectures can be a little bit boring sometimes but she gives test questions to those who go to class. Her tests are straight from the powerpoints so as long as you study you'll be fine.
Dr. Sutton made this class so interesting. She held in person class and expressed her gratitude for the students that would come each week. She really cares about her students. There were very few assignments and tests can be tricky so it is important to really study and do your work well. That being said, Dr. Sutton is a great option for 245!
easiest gen ed I've taken. passports are easy especially w it being online bc you just watch a ted talk and fill out a ws. same w the exercise log. tests are so easy. I never studied and the lowest exam score I got was an 87. 4 exams total. I didn't use the book either. offered 10 pts of ec for filling out a survey. easy a and would take again
She was really nice, but takes HTH100 way too seriously. Her tests are pretty difficult compared to other HTH100 professors. Other assignments are pretty simple, just make sure to read the directions carefully. I would take HTH100 with a different professor if you can.
TAKE THIS CLASS!! Sutton is straightforward with information and makes learning easy. If you attend her lectures, she will tell the people that actually attend what will be on tests and will even give test questions/answers if you pay attention! I just attended lectures and she gives you everything you need to know!
Dr. Sutton was honestly a good professor. Her grading criteria is really straight forward and as long as you put in the work to show up to lectures, she helps you a lot with what to expect on the exams. Shes also very kind and cares about her students. Sometimes she can go off topic during lectures but everything you need to know is on power points
She is the funniest professor and her lectures are very funny. With that being said, this class is so easy. If you go to her "optional" classes she does zoom polls to give word for word test questions with the answers. Her grading scale is nice where a 90-100 is a 4.0! Passing this class and getting an A is so easy, also I never used the textbook.
Dr. Sutton is a good professor. She lectures a lot which can be boring however the lectures are available online and she sometimes gives hints to test questions during class. You did not need to read the textbook to do well. She has some small assignments with very particular grading criteria but as long as you follow the rubric they are not hard
I came into HTH 100 interested to learn about the different topics, but Professor Sutton was way too specific on what she wanted for anyone to enjoy the class. She would also send long emails, with this being a fully online, and at the bottom of the email say "Do not email me", which is not particularly helpful when it is a fully online class.
Professor Sutton is very passionate about what she teaches. She does go off track a little bit in lectures. I would definitely recommend attending lectures and she provides a lot of exam questions.
EASIEST CLASS I'VE EVER TAKEN. Never used the textbook. She randomly started doing zoom meetings but I didn't go to a single one because you weren't required to go and I was doing just fine. I looked at the class schedule maybe once a week to see what I needed to do and I wouldn't go back until the next week, so so so easy online.
The class material is very simple especially if you have taken health in high school. The key is to read the book and take good notes. Other then that the class is very straight forward. Sutton is annoying but you'll get though it just put your head down and do everything thats assigned.
I would recommend keeping up with all of the lectures, powerpoint, and taking notes. If you dont come to class you will be behind, tests are hard. Would not recommend meeting outside of class. I would recommend taking someone else if I were given the option.
She is monotone and talks super slowly, but I literally put her in the background for every single class, did not look at any powerpoints until the day of the exams, and I got an A on every single one. I did take this class online, so it may have been easier, but all the assignments are pretty easy and her instructions and expectations are clear.
This class was pretty easy but the tests are not open note so make sure to study. She's a nice person but I definitely got a little bored with lecture because it was just a powerpoint and she goes a little slow for my taste. Easy class though and if you study the powerpoint you will do well.
Dr. Sutton is extremely unapproachable. During class she would tell people not to ask questions in the chat and you couldn't ask out loud either. Very boring to listen to and got mad often. The class isn't hard but would recommend taking a different prof if you can
Dr. Suttons lectures are very boring and hard to listen to. She gives around 5 major grades that if you do bad on, you will likely not do well in her class.
Her class was basically an art class. I drew in my notebook because she either flys through the notes or takes the whole class to go through 7 slides. Lectures are boring and goes off topic. The exams are 100 questions and can be hard at times. Took 5 points off for not putting the word count. PowerPoint's are on canvas. All exams & few assignments
I would advise against taking Dr. Sutton. Her lectures are very boring and she flies through the notes which doesn't give enough time for the class to jot down notes. She also doesn't explain half the information on the slides and just expects us to know it. Her exams are unnecessarily hard and she is very picky about little things for grading.
Prof. Sutton was super nice, as long as you follow her rules. Her lectures can be somewhat boring but she tells you everything you need to know on the exam. Theres four exam which includes the final, all 100questions: multiple choice, with some matching and T/F. There's a couple quizzes that are timed. Passports and Wellness assignments are easy.
Dr. Sutton is a ver good teacher. Lectures can be boring, but she tells you what is on the tests. Lecture powerpoints are very helpful for studying for the four exams that you take. Also completed a physical wellness assignment and wellness passports, but they were not bad. If you come to class, you can get extra credit at the end of the semester!
I strongly advice against taking this class with this professor. She does not care about whether you truly understand the information, and will fly through the slides, just reading the board with no explanations. She commonly will say "you need to know this for the test," and then not explain it. She is passive aggressive, and her class too hard.
Dr. Sutton is pretty good. She goes over a lot of the test material in class so as long as you go to class you should at least get a C. If you actually study which is needed then its an easy B she really is very nice. Make sure to go to class and do your passport assignments ahead of time.
I love Dr. Sutton! She provides you with the majority of the test questions through her lectures, which you will need to attend. She is hilarious, but talks slowly so you have to be patient. A passionate professor with a lot of knowledge. Well organized course.
This class you have to just power through. Lectures can be beyond boring (or seriously out of pocket), but she gives you test questions and counts attendance for extra credit at the end of the semester. Assignments out of class can seem excessive but are easy points. I wouldn't buy the textbook because she posts chapter outlines on Canvas.
she is really funny but so disorganized. she backtracks so much during lectures its painful to sit through. tests (4) are 100 questions which is a drag but if you go to class she basically tells you exactly whats on them. if you attended 70% of classes she gives you a chance to earn 10 points of extra credit. bought a textbook, but didnt use it
Her information is actually interesting. Not many assignments, just get the passports done and study for exams,
The worst professor I have ever had. Do not take if you like to be treated like an adult and not a child. Her lectures give away test answers, but her teaching style is droning and chaotic. She can be condescending and not understanding, but is oblivious towards anything she says. The assignments are doable but time consuming and boring.
She's a nice woman, when talking one on one, but her lectures are so hard to get through. She talks SOOO much and about the weirdest, most off-topic things. Tests and quizzes are super easy if you use her outlines though so if you can get through the lectures, you'll be fine.
The textbook isn't needed, but some may find it useful. Sutton gets off topic easily so lectures can be difficult, but she also gives out test questions/answers in lectures. Attendance is mandatory if you want to do well on the tests in my opinion. Your grade is heavily based on the 4 tests.
Acts nice but rude/condescending when you ask questions. Reminds me of Umbridge in Harry Potter. If I had to describe her, that is it. Few things: She takes attendance is an AUDITORIUM CLASS. She likes to call out students in the middle of lectures. She asks personal questions that she should not ask. She takes no valid excuses for missed class.
attendance is absolutely required even though it's literally a 100+ person class. 4 tests that are passable if you study but her lectures are incredibly boring and she sometimes goes off on random tangents.
100 question test
Sutton has a lot of mixed feelings about her teaching, but it really is nothing to complain about. The tests are 100 questions but she gives you the answers word for word in lectures and you can miss 20 and still get an 80 soo.. She's not the worst professor in the world and is extremely reasonable with everything she does. Plus all quizzes online.
I can understand why people are put off by her, especially with how serious she takes attendance. As long as you make a friend in this class there is really nothing else to complain about. Yeah the tests are 100 questions, but they are all multiple choice and she practically gives you all the answers in the lectures. Easy to listen to/study for.
Course is pretty easy but I am not a fan of her lectures. She does tell you what's important for the test but the class time feels so long. Attendance is not mandatory but she gives you the test questions in her lecture and gives out extra credit at the end of the semester to those who attended a majority of the classes. Doesn't allow tech in class
Pretty easy to do well in this class if you show up and pay attention to the lectures. Almost all of the questions you can get from the power points on canvas, but there are a good amount of questions she puts in from things she says in lecture, so you need to go to class. Other than that you just need to get the passports and wellness log done.
i typically try to give teachers the benefit of the doubt, but i really just did not like her. she treats everyone like they are still in elementary school and her lectures are so boring. you have to take handwritten notes and if you want to use a computer you have to sit in the front row. bad teacher + boring class does not make a good time
I love Dr. Sutton. She is so sweet and likes to connect with her students. I learned so much and its crazy how much you remember and don't even realize! Very engaging.
ask her about her international condom collection
Sutton is a very easy professor and as long as you attend class and study before exams you'll be fine. She does talk alot and get off topic very easily during lectures, and the lectures themselves are very boring, but its a very manageable class.
super easy class, but lectures are brutally boring. she does give you test questions and answers during lectures, but unprofessionally overshares personal information, which can become irritating. offers extra credit if attend 70% of classes. super easy A but dreadful classes and stories. would take someone else if you can avoid her
If you want an easy A for a Gen Ed take another professor save yourself the headache
she's definitely a mixed bag, ill list all the good things and bad things about her hth100 class pros: -final isn't cumulative -slides are posted to canvas -she once made a c*m joke which was awesome cons: -she goes through slides so quick you can't really take notes -didn't respect demi lovato's pronouns there's a lot more, but shes alright ig
The course itself is fairly simple she is very upfront about the assignments and due dates. The tests are 100 questions so fairly easy to get a good grade as long as you look over the information. I didn't click with her since the lectures feel so long and she is one of those professors that tells you if you study the night before you won't do well
Just know that there is absolutely zero flexibility with grading and assignments. Not very understanding about grades and not interested in hearing any excuses.
Lectures take the full class period but she goes through the slides fast and expects you to take notes at home. Doesn't allow technology unless you sit in the front row. She gives out some test questions in her lecture but other than that her tests are 100 questions with about 20 trick ones.
Overall super easy Gen Ed class. Her slides are posted on canvas, and she gives a lot of test questions in class. The class is graded on 4 exams, 3 quizzes, a physical fitness log, and wellness passports. Lecture takes up whole class and is very hard to sit through because of how boring it is.
Lectures take the full class period but she goes through the slides fast and expects you to take notes at home. Has no flexibility with assignments and quizzes. Doesn't allow technology unless you sit in the front row. She gives out some test questions in her lecture and slides, but other than that her tests are 100 questions.
Not a lot of grades so exams are really important. She makes exams way harder than they need to be and expects you to know a lot for a gen-ed. Expect to study a lot just to have a slight chance at getting a good grade on the exam. Bad class averages with no curve. Lectures are very boring and feel super long. No technology allowed!!
Genuinely the worst professor Ive had yet in college. She gives long boring lectures and speaks to her students as if they are in 5th grade.I use my iPad to write my notes so I don't have a notebook and she told me I couldn't take notes then unless I got a real notebook since she doesn't allow technology in her classes. Save yourself don't take her
Dr sutton is a nice lady, but extrmeley boring and talks so slow. I would fall asleep. She doesn't allow phones and takes attendance. Her test are so long and way to hard for what we should be learning. She's not terrible but not my first pick
Professor Sutton is difficult and aggravating. She spends 45% of the class talking about politics, 45% going off on tangents, and 10% talking about actual class material. She talks to the students like they are in elementary school. She is not understanding. Lectures are boring & this class genuinely felt hours long. Take someone else if possible.
Dr. Sutton's lectures are all over the place, but she clearly says what facts you need to know for the test, so even though they are very long and detailed she gives you what you need to do well on them. She has a strict no tech policy, and she does micromanage and sometimes talk down to the class. However, class can sometimes be entertaining.
Only health 100 I have ever heard of where ATTENDANCE ISN"T MANDATORY and is instead just for extra credit. She's boring and kinda weird and no electronics but she doesn't notice when people are on their phone. Same assignments as every other health class so overall NOT BAD JUST BORING. o GIVES TEST ANSWERS AWAY IN CLASS
I personally do not appreciate her lectures; they are boring and long. She will go on tangents about politics or ask personal questions that should not be addressed. You have 100 question exams through out the semester and they aren't awful if you study.
Great teacher, makes the class interesting to learn about diseases.
Super funny/energetic. Passionate about what she teaches and really just wants students to learn. A little wacky at times. Passport events and UREC hours are really annoying but they help boost your grade, get them done early! Exams are pretty tough. Textbook is a waste of money. Her powerpoint notes give test answers. Few quizzes. Can skip a lot.
Highly recommend taking Health 100 with any other professor. Extremely unapproachable for help and questions. 4 exams that are each 100 questions on a scantron and cover lots of information and are unnecessarily challenging in comparison to other Health 100 classes. Could so easily get an easy A with pretty much any other professor. Trust.
Sutton is very funny and passionate in her lectures. It was an enjoyable class where good attendance allowed extra credit. However, the tests were very difficult, more than other hth100 classes. Passport events and UREC hours are very time consuming but are easy grade bumps if you get them done.
While the lectures were boring, it is not hard to do well on the tests if you take notes on what she says will be on the test during lectures. She gives away a lot of test questions during class. While she may come across as strict, just make sure to read directions and attend lectures and you'll be fine.
This class was so irritating. Not rlly her fault but it was a waste of time, try to take hth or kin online if u can. So much outside work, 100 question tests that had ridiculous content, had to memorize stats & random facts from videos and websites. She gives exam tips in class, extra credit if u miss under 6 classes but class is unbearably boring
dr sutton's class was fine, nothing too difficult but the class is definitely very lecture heavy so it's recommended that you attend class. while attendance isn't mandatory she does take attendance because there's an extra credit opportunity at the end of the semester. all of the criteria for assignments is clear just make sure you read it.
I would just avoid taking health in general because there is so much outside work for the class (UREC hours and passport events). The one nice thing was she offered extra credit at the end if you didn't miss 6 classes. The tests covered SO MUCH material and she would even ask little random questions so you had to study everything in her powerpoint
Never went to lecture, did the easy assignments, and studied 2 nights before the tests. Got an A. She tells you it's impossible to get an A without going to class, just not true. She gives you the lecture slides online and the slides have hints about what's on the test. She also provides a study guide for the test and the type of questions.
I had a bad experience with this professor. I felt she did not listen to the questions I asked and instead put students down for questioning the material. The tests required a lot of studying, but an A on all of them is very doable. I ended the class with an A but wished I had a more respectful professor.
Good professor, takes a few classes to get used to. She goes fast during lectures and highlights information that you need to know/will be on the exam. There are 4 exams, all of which are 100 mcqs. You do 4 passports and keep a physical activity log, as well as 2 quizzes + pre/post health assignment. I got the textbook but only used it like twice
I would not take Dr. Sutton again. She is not understanding at all, does not know how to use technology and is condescending a lot of the time. I only went to lecture because sometimes she says some crazy things and it was entertaining. The exams are hard and she does not go over a lot of the material. She expects a lot of you for a gen ed.
4 in-person exams, physical activity logs, online quizzes. Exams are difficult but not impossible. Lectures provide some key information for exams. Do not be late to class, attendance has some impact on grade but a few absences are excused on the final grade.
So, Dr. Sutton is probably the most difficult HTH 100 professor to have, but it's not that bad. Her tests are mostly memorization of little facts given there's usually 100 questions for 3-4 chapters of the textbook. Lectures are kinda boring, but what lecture isn't when it's not something you're interested in.
Sutton is ok, for HTH 100 there are better professors. She's a pretty lenient grader so as long as you do the work you should be fine. The only negative is her test question can be really specific like a statistic that was stated in a video she had us watch. Other than she's fine you should be able to get an A without a problem
Really didn't like her, avoid at all costs take like any other option they can't be worse than her. Dreaded her class every T-Th, though she did let us go like 12:17 instead of 12:25 but she talked literally whole time. Always making snide comments about people not coming to class and how they'll fail cuz they miss stuff, rude comments in general.
Absolutely loved her for 245! Really enjoyed the lecture too, she had the whole class laughing every class. I learned a lot and the exams come straight from the PPTs. Easy A if you show up and study.
The class wasn't bad but she would get angry at people for asking questions during lecture and would tell them to come to her office hours instead when the questions were about the material and would've been beneficial to the learning. It was very strange.. She's not bad but I'd probably take a dif. professor if possible
She's really not a bad professor. She really teaches you a fair amount. Her exams are the most difficult part of her class, but she basically gives the answers away during lectures and through the notes. You're good if you pay attention and review the notes before exams. I will say that her classes are sometimes boring and do go off on tangents.
sutton is a sweet lady and her stories about her study abroad trips were nice to hear. but 100 question exams sound easy and if you put in the work then they're fine, but it was like 6 powerpoints worth of materials for each exam + random videos and websites she makes you read for the exams too. extra credit if you don't miss more than 4 classes
Dr Sutton is nice and helpful but says a lot of out-of-pocket things hahaha. She cool tho, just be prepared to be shocked sometimes.
For anyone scared to take Sutton, know that if you participate, show up, and just be respectful, it will go so far with her. I loved the class, and information but I also thought Dr. Sutton did a great job at being available. Also, look in the speaker notes of her PowerPoints. Just try your best to pay attention and go the extra mile.
Don't take Sutton for just a gen-ed requirement. If you're pre-med, she's great because you really need to know your stuff for tests. There are 4 in person 100 MC/TF tests. She allows no technology whatsoever. Most of your note taking will need to be done outside of class because she moves so quickly through the slideshow.
Loved her!! She gives hints during lecture and in powerpoint notes for what's on the exam. Extra Credit if you didn't miss class but aren't required to show up. 4 tests with 100 questions each, no cumulative final, 2 assignments that you can copy paste for 30 points each, 3 15 question article quizzes and drops the lowest, 80 question disease test.
Sutton is ok, I'm not her biggest fan. Her exams and quizzes are really just memorization not about actually understanding the content which is good and bad. Her exams are 100 questions so it's a lot to memorize. Honestly she's really boring and does not allow any technology in class.
She is honestly just not a kind woman. She tries to be relatable which is nice sometimes. I did well in the class and stayed out of her way. The way she talks to some students is just absurd. Easy class though.
She was just ok. No technology so it is all paper and pen. 4 exams, some quizzes, and some occasional easy assignments. Her exams are mostly memorization because they are 100 questions. She tries to be funny and relatable which is nice. overall, probably not your best option but I grew to somewhat enjoy her class.
Dr. Sutton's class seems easy at first. However, she gives 100 question exams with loads of slide shows on the tests. Her teaching involves her reading directly off the slideshow. She claims to not get mad at questions, but she gets offensive when responding to some of them. She also doesn't allow any electronics and calls you out if she sees it.
All assignments are provided at the beginning of the year, which is convenient, but lectures are boring and she doesn't let you use any tech in class. Besides a couple tid bits here and there, you can learn everything you need for the exams from the slides she posts on canvas. (which is what I did)
honestly i would not take her again. overall she wasn't awful but the tests were so extremely detailed and precise. you absolutely had to know the topic to get a good grade. i never got anything below a b- on the tests but i also reviewed the powerpoints for hours. did give some test questions though. not awful but for a gened definitely other prof
She does not know what she is saying over half the time. she does not teach and just reads slides and tells you to take one word notes not giving you time to write stuff down. You teach yourself in this class and the class feels like forever. she side tracks a lot so sometimes it hard to keep up because she jumps around topics.
She is not as bad as everyone says, I wouldn't mind having her again. She's annoying but if you get 6 or less absences you get extra credit. Health is just a mid class. Paying attention in class and taking notes will help you, she says test answers out loud a lot and tells you when to write them down. Honestly she was not terrible.
Lectures are boring. tests are scantron and 100 questions. usually have content never mentioned on them. dr sutton is alright, but can be rude. You don't need to purchase the textbook, I never used it.
Many people don't like Dr. Sutton since she is more old school and does not allow technology (notes will be handwritten too) but I think that she does a good job of covering topics. She emphasizes what things will be on the tests and has a very good outlined study guide for tests. If you can deal with no technology for an hour, I would recommend.
The class was not hard itself, I got extra credit for going to class. She often got off topic and asked very personal questions and would ask you to raise your hand if it applied to you. She would ramble on about something completely unrelated and sometimes incorrect information. Also no technology and would yell at people for being on their phone.
You get 6 absences before they start to affect your grade and she doesn't accept any excuses even if your dorm is burning down. All her exams are in person and on paper. She's funny sometimes in class but other than that she's rude and you're not allowed to have any technology out in class.
You get 6 excused absences which means at the end of the semester if you missed class less then 6 times you can get the extra credit opportunity otherwise your absences mean nothing. She's funny. Her tests are 100 question multiple choice, her questions are taken directly from her PowerPoints and there should be no confusion.
I was a bit wary going in because of a couple of her previous reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. Her lectures were informative and I think her old-school style actually helps us learn better. I also liked that she gave us hints about some of the questions that would be on the test. If you study a decent amount, you'll probably get an A.
She was pretty rude in class. The lectures were not interesting and she talked about herself a lot. The exams were extremely hard, the PowerPoints were long and hard to follow. Attendance is pretty strict. Would not recommend.
Class material isn't extremely difficult, but tests are a 100 questions. However, Professor Sutton is way too strict about basically every aspect of class, and overreacts to students not doing exactly what she expects of them. She comes across as pretty rude, unapproachable and flat out strange. I've had negative interactions with her. Don't take.
Lectures are surprisingly engaging and informative. She points out a lot of questions that are on the tests, so attending class is important. Tests are 100 questions that come almost word-for-word from the PowerPoint/study guide. Not sure she's the nicest person but I never interact with her so I have no problems lol. Textbook was a waste of money.
4 exams, non-cumulative final, and outside presentations you had to attend. Tests are 100 mc questions and easy if you reviewed the powerpoints. She also gives test questions in class which is nice. Cons are that she doesn't allow technology, honestly is pretty rude, and lectures are so boring. Easy A-B if you study, but lectures sucked to attend.
four 100 multiple choice/true false exams which are all very easy as long as you study the slides. During lectures, she points out important information that may not be on the slides but will be on the test, even though there are not many of those. She wants her students to do well. Lectures may be boring, but take her. Very easy A if you study.
She has 4 100mc question tests which are easy A's. She's very rude to some students and told my class that if one of the seating sections has more names signed on the attendance sheet than there are people sitting there, then everyone in the section gets an absence. Find a better way to take attendance??????
She's really annoying and all she does is yap about stuff unrelated to the class. She doesn't let you take notes on your computer, and she has four 100 question tests which are on stuff she doesn't cover in class.
Very annoying and condescending during lectures. Class isn't hard but I would take with someone else given the option. No electronics, terrible at coming up with a way to take attendance so blamed students, gets off topic.
Class is easy, no cumulative final which is awesome. However, Dr. Sutton is very unlikable and can be rude sometimes. I didn't enjoy her lectures at all, would probably take the class with someone else if available. If not just take her, you could easily get an A the class is fairly easy and manageable.
Debra was genuinely one of the funniest profs I have ever met just probably not for the right reasons. Super easy class and for tests I would just rewrite her slides down on paper. She can be a little bit rude at times, but for a basic gen ed definitely not the worst choice and she clearly knows what she's talking about.
A lot of these other students on here just want to get an easy “A” by being lazy and easy way. Dr. Sutton is absolutely amazing. She goes over everything you need in class. The test is directly from the power points, literally word-for-word. Yes, you have to study over the power points. Yes, the test is 100 questions, but it is so straightforward.
holy yap. dr. sutton is obviously very knowledgable in what she teaches, but sometimes she goes on tangents that are almost passive aggressive. it's hard to ignore that her tone is often slightly condescending and she is always emphasizing the same thing every class, which is redundant. content isn't crazy, very easy to get an A.
If you enjoy watching paint dry then be sure to take this class. Some of the most boring lectures I have ever been to in my life. She is a very passionate and knows a lot but her lectures are way to boring to ever tell someone to take her class.
She's not that bad. Her stories, though long, always have a moral that relates to the topic. She's not even that rude, she just asks people to get off their phones, which should be a no-brainer in a college class lmao. She's funny and clearly cares a lot about the subject, and wants you to care too.
Worst Professor. DO NOT TAKE HER. I went to her for help/clear up confusion and she was so disrespectful. I have never been so disrespected by an adult or fought with an adult like I did her. She is super condescending. Her voice is annoying.Class itself is fine she makes things bad. Don't rely on her being able to help you if you need it. Do not!
BAD BAD BAD. If she is the only professor open or left for this class when searching just wait to take it. It is not necessarily her while teaching. It's when your with her in private. She belittles you. Clearly does not understand her job.
I wish I could give a 0 rating but I can't so it is a one.
Extremely condescending and rude. Most uncompassionate and caring professor I've had at JMU.
Depending on what we're learning, lectures can be hit or miss. Attendance is not necessary, after 6, you miss out on extra credit. Not many assignments, only 4 tests, each 100 questions, directly from slides. She gives you "hints" in class for tests. She is repetitive on assignments and things to do but besides that she is alright.
For a Gen Ed health class, this class is so much more work than it needs to be. Tests aren't difficult if you study, but 4 100-question exams on top of the other work in the class feels unnecessary. She will not make exceptions to rules even if you have a valid need for it. Rambles needlessly. Not horrible; if you have to take her, you'll be fine.
Go to class and take notes, especially on questions she says will be on the test. If you study those, you will do well on the tests. She's funny but do not go on your phone or leave the class, she will call you out.
She is really sweet if you do your work and respect her time. Health has a lot of assignments like Wellness Log and Passports, but I finished it early and it was easy to focus on just the test material. She gives constant reminders, her instructions are clear. Tests were 100 questions and she constantly gives us test questions.
shes pretty strict (no technology, don't leave during class). i tried to reschedule an exam with her over a month in advance, she asked me to go to her office. i went and she gave me a hard time about rescheduling because it wasn't life or death. she let me take the exam a different date. after meeting her shes nice and makes conversation
Didn't really like her. She seems like an okay regular person, but very mid prof. Class isn't necessarily hard but she's a stickler for little things. No technology which is annoying. She does offer extra credit if you have less than 6 missed classes. Tests start easy, but get harder. You'll live if you get her, but I would have her as last option.
overall she is okay. she is strict about things like technology and leaving class and she will call you out on it in front of everyone. there is attendance and she has her TA check it with how many ppl are actually there. each test has 100 questions but she prepares you for it really really well and gives you test answers in class if you go so go!
I would try to find another professor for this course. The way I've seen her talk to some students had my jaw drop. Her lectures aren't too exciting, but it gets you prepared for the exams. Exams are difficult but manageable. My main gripe with Dr. Sutton is the way she treats students, she comes off extremely passive aggressive during lectures
Honestly, her class and exams are relatively easy, just use quizlets and you'll be fine. Don't be on your phone and stay out of trouble and she'll be fine with you.
literally THE most boring human on earth. terribly harsh grader, if somethings a second late she'll give you a 0% every class is a lecture and she'll get mad at you for leaving class to go to the bathroom and call you out in front of the whole class to ask where you're going. She's not very friendly or accessible and NO technology.
Debra seems like a nice caring person and she is but her lectures are so so boring. The worst part is you can't skip because attendance is taken and if you want extra credit that is how you get it. Only can skip 5-6 times. Test are manageable but are long 100 multiple choice. Class is doable but try finding better professor.
Tests are easy if you review the slides, all on Scantron 100 questions, the final is non-cumulative. You have miss us to 6 classes, once you go over your grade will drop, no technology in class, so you have to take handwritten notes, she gives a lot, if not all, of the test answers throughout her lecture so go to class and you'll get easy A.
Dr. Sutton has her flaws like anyone else but is overly disliked on this website. She is firm on her beliefs in the classroom such as no electronics and attending class but is an excellent professor. I wish there were more classes that I could take with her. Exams are 100 questions but are completely achievable if you take the time to learn it!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. It was boring and she literally talks about anything but the actual content in class. This class is already a big time commitment, and on top of that you have to take notes and learn the content outside of class while she wastes time in class talking about random anecdotes. 6 allotted absences for the entire sem.
Dr. Sutton is knowledgeable, but her class didn't work for me. Lectures didn't match the tests, which were very hard, long, and not well-supported by the study guides. Over 20% of test content wasn't covered in class. No electronics were allowed at all. Not having phones is 1 thing but, not being able to type notes hurt my focus and performance.
Dr. Sutton is knowledgeable, but her class didn't work for me. Lectures didn't match the tests well enough, which were hard, very long and not well-supported by the study guides. Over 20% of test content wasn't covered in class. No electronics were allowed. I get phones but not being able to type notes on my laptop hurt my focus and performance.
This is an extremely boring class. Attendance is mandatory despite all the slides being available online to go over. She talks about stuff other than the content. She also doesn't allow students to use computers at all despite most students wanting to use them for notes. She is also very strict on even bathroom use- not during class.
Professor Sutton is a very nice lady. She knows what she is talking about while lecturing. Tests are 100 questions, but overall not horrible. She gives lots of answers for questions in class. You get 6 excused absences the semester, but I recommend going to class. I found it to be interesting and she taught good information. Easy Gen - Ed with her.
Class was a bit boring, but it was a very easy class because she gave answers to the questions on the exam in class (recommend going to class even though you have 6 excused absences). The no electronics in class was annoying, but overall easy gen ed.
workload is completely unreasonable for a lower-level class and she doesn't listen when students express their concerns. I don't think she knows what empathy and compassion are. She also picks and chooses minor topics barely discussed in class to put on the exam. it's 2025, why are computers and electronics banned? Maybe work on not being so boring
Not that bad of a professor if you can sit through the lectures. Tests are long, but really easy.
Lectures were very clear. She reads the slides while telling you funny stories the entire class. She will tell you 50% of the test questions during lectures so make sure you go. I had so much fun in this class and I recommend taking her. Her extra credit is just showing up to class, if u miss 6 classes you cannot receive extra credit.
All classes are lectures. You are not allowed electronics. Show up to class, she tells you what's on the exams and she post the slides on canvas. USE THEM. Her exams are multiple choice and if you look over the slides you will be fine. I would not get the book unless you're that type of person.
Doesn't let you use an electronic; if u have an accommodation, u will have to sit at the front of class.
Somehow she teaches health, showed us disgusting pictures of STDs and STIs but the class was easy.
Odd person but the class was decently easy. Takes attendance every class but you can miss 6 with no penalty. Posts slides and gives you test questions in class. Don't sit in front or in aisle seat because she walks up and down and stands really close to you it's weird. Just read the slides before tests and do the homework.
Not a great professor, but her class is doable. Her lectures are boring and she can be rude. She's a very unforgiving grader, absolutely no late assignments and you have to follow her format/directions EXACTLY or else you will lose points. There are 4 exams, 100 questions each, but they're not too bad as long as you go to class and take notes.
A list of things I'd rather marry than her -a smoke detector that won't stop beeping -Cruella de Vil and her 101 Dalmatians -lord farquad -a tinder bot She is very condescending to students. She gets in students faces and scolds them for things like sneezing, or going to the bathroom. She's the kind of person who shouldn't own pets.
Great professor! Very nice and gives good lectures. Has funny stories that relate to topics. Grades by very little. Exams are pretty easy as long as u study a lil bit. Only annoying thing are passports that take up most of ur grade. Attendance is important, can't do extra credit if u have certain amount of absences.
Just your average but good professor. Funny, gives you test question answers in class (not found on her slideshows), no electronics whatsoever, she reccomends a textbook but its NOT needed, 4 exams that are easy if you review and STUDY the slideshows. No late grades & if you ask a question, she can be wishy washy, but overall a good professor.
She's so rude and not understanding at all. Do not take her class she makes it much harder than it has to be. Lectures are so boring. Take literally any other professor for HTH 100.
I heard mixed views on her before taking the class but she wasn't bad at all. I would for sure take the class again. You have 6 skips and if you exceed the 6 skips then you don't have the extra credit opportunity at the end of the semester. You don't need to get the book to pass. She was funny and acted like the wanted to be there.
She is genuinely hilarious in a kinda “what is going on type of way”. If you attend class she practically gives you the answers. To pass the class, make flash cards of terms and you pretty much can be guaranteed an A. The wellness passports are as fun as you make them, do walk a paca it was the highlight of my semester.
She is kind of a nut but I loved her. She does not allow any kind of technology but I did not mind. She is very clear on what is on her tests but they are 100 questions. She's very passionate about this class. Overall, I would take her cause she is very straightforward with what she requires and I found her class very easy.
This prof is amazing! information is very accessible and she is a fast grader. You have 6 excused absences but are not penalized for going over that, just not eligible for extra credit at the end of the sem. There are a few easy assignments that following the directions are almost guarantees an a on, but not an overwhelming amount. 4 tests no final
Would rather watch paint dry, easy class tho. Very passionate about the subject, no technology, 6 allowed absences, very little homework, gives test answers in class, final is not cumulative. Very strict and can be condescending if you don't follow her rules. If you go to class and take notes it's very doable. Don't buy the textbook.
